Nigel Farage Resigns as MP, Citing ‘Vilification’ Amid Financial Controversy

0

Today, Nigel Farage made a dramatic exit from his position as an MP amidst escalating controversies surrounding his financial dealings. His resignation has prompted a by-election, with Farage urging the public to judge his conduct at the polls.

In an impassioned online speech, the leader of the Reform Party launched a fierce critique against the ‘establishment’ and media, declaring his intention to vacate his Clacton seat to pursue a new mandate from voters.

Expressing a sense of indignation, Farage claimed that he had “never been angrier” and described himself as the most maligned politician in the UK in recent memory. He disclosed that he is now subject to two investigations regarding alleged financial improprieties involving undeclared cash payments and support prior to his parliamentary tenure.

These inquiries spotlight accusations that his longtime associate, George Cottrell, a convicted fraudster dubbed ‘Posh George’, covertly financed Farage’s security and staffing needs during the year preceding his election, including providing access to a residence in Westminster.

Adding to the scrutiny, Parliament’s standards commissioner Daniel Greenberg is also examining a £5 million donation Farage allegedly received from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne.

However, Parliamentary rules mean Mr Farage’s decision to resign his seat and trigger the by-election suspends the investigations, though it would restart if he is re-elected, potentially setting up a second by-election in the autumn or winter.

Mr Farage has denied any wrongdoing and claimed he is the target of an ‘stitch-up’ – a claim endorsed last night by US president Donald Trump.

In his lengthy and wide-ranging televised address he protested his innocence, saying he had ‘done nothing wrong … I have not broken the law in any way at all’.

‘Now I’ve decided that the people of Clacton should be the judges of my actions. This will be a people versus the establishment by-election,’ he said.

‘It’s a chance to stick two fingers up to the entire Establishment to frankly tell them where to go, and that is why I will be putting my name forward to stand in this by-election … I will fight to win.’

Nigel Farage is under the heaviest pressure he has faced in his time as Reform leader following reports that long-term ally George Cottrell had provided undeclared funding for security and staffing in the year before he was elected

The Sunday Times reported this weekend that Mr Cottrell, who has a fraud conviction in the United States, provided funding for staffing and security, and the use of a London townhouse.

Critics have said that this should have been declared under Parliamentary rules in place at the time of Mr Farage’s election in 2024, under which new MPs were required to register any gifts worth more than £300 they received in the previous 12 months, except where the gift ‘could not be reasonably thought by others’ to relate to their political activities.

Mr Cottrell reportedly recruited and paid three staff to work on Mr Farage’s social media before the general election, and has continued to allow him to use a five-storey Georgian property he rented near Buckingham Palace.

If the probe finds against the Reform leader and suspends him from the Commons for more than 30 days he would be subject to a recall petition by voters, which could trigger a second by-election.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats have already demanded a parliamentary sleaze inquiry into the latest claims.

Mr Farage insisted his £5m gift from Christopher Harborne was given to him on an ‘unconditional basis’.

He criticised the Sunday Times investigation into his finances, saying: ‘Standards are now being used as a political tool.’

‘On the gift, it was given to me on an unconditional basis. I can do with that money exactly as I wish, but there is a much bigger reason why I’m going to need that money, and it’s simply this,’ he said.

‘For over 20 years now, I have been subject to constant demonisation by the press for daring to be outside the consensual view on many issues.

‘I’ve been attacked again and again. I am the most physically and verbally attacked public figure or politician of modern times.

‘Yes, you will know of some of the incidents, milkshakes thrown in my face, placards bashed over my head, but let me promise you, you only know about a fraction of the number of times that I’ve been assaulted.’

It came after he Mr Farage clashed with a Sky TV crew as he returned to Britain from the United States last night.

Mr Farage reacted angrily when asked whether it had been a mistake not to declare the gifts, saying: ‘You tell your bosses, you harass my family any more… serious consequences. That’s what your organisation has done this morning. Go away.’

Sky said it had not contacted anyone from Mr Farage’s family about the story.

But Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch laid into him in a speech this morning, accusing him of ‘hiding’ from the row and Reform of being ‘completely distracted by their constant scandals and personal dramas’.

Speaking at a rally in central London, Mrs Badenoch said: ‘What surprised me most was what he said, it was on Sky News, that he said this, where he was being asked questions, and then talked about Leveson.

‘He’s hinting at press regulation. For all of the criticism and the attacks – and I would even say abuse – that I’ve got from the press, I never once recommended us curbing our free press.’

She added: ‘We should be worried about a Reform government using government power to control the press.’

He did manage to win the backing of Donald Trump last night after his transatlantic trip. The US president, a long-term ally, appeared to echo his claim that he is the victim of an ‘establishment hit job’.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump shared a link to an article on The National Pulse website titled ‘They’re Running the 2024 Anti-Trump Playbook on Nigel Farage’.

The article accuses the UK media of giving far more coverage to ‘every gaffe, controversy, or disagreement’ by Farage and Reform, while ‘policy successes or growing voter support are frequently downplayed’.

Mr Trump personally called Mr Farage to congratulate him on his political success in achieving the removal of Sir Keir Starmer from No 10, The Times reported.

Prince Harry arrives in the UK, unaccompanied by his family

Although currently residing in California with his family, the Duke of Sussex has returned to his homeland to advocate for the Invictus Games. He also plans to participate in several public engagements. It was initially thought that Meghan and their children might accompany him, allowing Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, the chance to reconnect with their grandfather, King Charles, after a prolonged four-year separation.

However, reports suggest Harry arrived in the country solo on Monday (06.07.26) and Meghan and the children will not be joining him while he’s in London.

It comes after the trip was complicated by a disagreement over arrangements for Harry’s stay.

FIFA World Cup 2026: July 7 Match Results, Highlights & Detailed Reports

Belgium sent the United States packing from their own World Cup event on Tuesday, as Charles De Ketelaere’s two-goal performance led to a 4-1 victory, overshadowed by controversy over USA striker Folarin Balogun’s suspension.

This significant win advances Belgium to the quarter-finals against Spain, while the U.S., along with co-hosts Canada and Mexico, exit the tournament following a lackluster showing in the Round of 16.

Pre-match focus revolved on whether Balogun would start for the USA, especially after US President Donald Trump urged FIFA to reconsider the forward’s ban for a red card, a call controversially entertained by the organization.

However, Belgium’s lineup also raised eyebrows, excluding stars like Kevin De Bruyne and Jérémy Doku. Coach Rudi Garcia’s bold strategy paid off when De Ketelaere scored early, dampening the host city’s spirits in Seattle.

Despite Malik Tillman equalizing with a free-kick, De Ketelaere quickly put Belgium ahead again. An unfortunate blunder by goalkeeper Matt Freese and a last-minute goal from Romelu Lukaku sealed the US defeat.

FIFA’s move to suspend Balogun’s ban after he was sent off in the previous round against Bosnia and Herzegovina has been slammed by football fans, pundits and players around the world, but there were no such misgivings among the Seattle crowd.

A colossal roar greeted the stadium announcement of Balogun’s name in the starting 11, vastly dwarfing the cheers even for US talisman Christian Pulisic.

The “USA” thunderclap then echoed around the stadium, utterly drowning out a small corner of chanting Belgium fans in the opening minutes.

But the US party was swiftly silenced. The majority of 67,000 fans fell silent in the ninth minute as De Ketelaere scored, easily tapping home from close range after Nicolas Raskin’s cross evaded some lax defending.

It was the first time USA had conceded the opener in this World Cup. With the atmosphere deflated, no immediate fightback was visible on the pitch either. The midfield was outgunned, and the defence looked nervous.

On the half-hour mark, Balogun drew a foul on the edge of the area and whipped the crowd back to life. He waved his arms frantically as Malik Tillman — fresh from scoring a free kick against Bosnia — lined up the ball.

Tillman’s shot deflected off the Belgian wall and spun into the net, and the stadium shook.

But the joy was again short-lived. In the 33rd minute, De Ketelaere leapt up to meet Leandro Trossard’s cross and comfortably out-jumped an off-balance Tim Ream to score his second.

USA inched back into the game as the first half closed out, with Balogun blasting over from a long Tillman throw, then narrowly failing to catch a long ball, again from the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

USA coach Mauricio Pochettino switched formation at half-time, sending Gio Reyna into the number 10 role and pushing Weston McKennie out to the right. The US team resumed play with more intensity, pushing higher up the pitch.

But self-inflicted disaster struck in the 57th minute. Freese came out to collect a Belgium long ball, turned to evade the charging De Ketelaere, but then hesitated with his pass.

De Ketelaere jabbed the ball to Hans Vanaken, who made no mistake with an open goal from long range.

Pulisic limped off with an injury minutes later, and with him went the US dreams of reaching a first World Cup quarter-final since 2002.

His replacement, Sebastian Berhalter, flashed an ambitious shot narrowly wide in the 79th minute, and Balogun had a close-range effort saved soon after.

But Chris Richards handed the ball to Lukaku in stoppage time, and the veteran striker did not hesitate to seal the rout.

Ronaldo’s last dance

Substitute Mikel Merino scored a late winner to put Spain in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory over Portugal and end Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup career on Tuesday.

The European champions will face Belgium on Saturday in Los Angeles.

In front of an expectant crowd of 70,649 at the air-conditioned Dallas Stadium in Arlington, a match that promised so much on paper mostly failed to deliver.

Extra time looked certain before fellow substitute Ferran Torres slipped in Merino to settle the contest in the first minute of injury time.

It meant a sour final World Cup match for the 41-year-old Ronaldo, now playing in Saudi Arabia, having confirmed on the eve of the encounter that this would be his last dance on football’s biggest stage.

The neighbours came into the contest both unbeaten, but while Portugal had not been entirely convincing, Spain had not even conceded a goal in the tournament.

One of the pre-tournament favourites, they still haven’t.

For all their pedigree, talent and history, Spain have only lifted the World Cup once, in 2010, while Portugal’s best was third place in 1966.

In Ronaldo and Spain’s 18-year-old Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, the last-16 showdown was touted as a showcase of two extraordinary talents at opposite ends of their careers.

Spain should have been ahead with less than 10 minutes gone when Dani Olmo played in Mikel Oyarzabal but with only goalkeeper Diogo Costa to beat, he somehow pulled it well wide.

Portugal skipper Ronaldo had his first chance to add to his three goals in North America, stinging the palms of goalkeeper Unai Simón from a tight angle.

Luis de la Fuente’s Spain cranked up the pressure, Yamal and Álex Baena testing Costa twice in quick succession, the second a wonderful fingertip save.

Ronaldo — jeered and cheered in equal measure — was a marginal presence in the central attacking role he now occupies in the twilight of his career.

Portugal ended the half on top, and Roberto Martínez’s side were inches from taking the lead when Spain full-back Pedro Porro stuck out his head and directed a Nuno Mendes shot onto his own crossbar.

The winger Yamal had endured a frustrating time up against Mendes, but the Paris Saint-Germain fullback was forced off injured after 56 minutes in a blow to Portugal.

The game needed a spark and Ronaldo, well known to Spain from his time at Real Madrid, threw up his arms when a pass went astray.

Martinez made double changes on 71 and 83 minutes, but kept Ronaldo on.

And in a game that was cagey, Arsenal midfielder Merino won it at the death with a composed finish that was out of keeping with much of what went on before.

Stunning Highlights from ‘The Odyssey’ Press Tour Featuring Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and More

A media blitz that could rival the grandeur of Mount Olympus.

The star-studded cast of “The Odyssey” has embarked on an impressive promotional journey this past week, embodying the essence of classic Greek tales. Directed by Christopher Nolan, this epic features talented actors such as Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Lupita Nyong’o, each making a striking impression on various red carpets.

Zendaya, who steps into the role of the goddess Athena at age 29, reunited with renowned stylist Law Roach to craft a series of Grecian-inspired ensembles. This method-dressing strategy echoes their previous collaborations on films like “Challengers,” “Dune,” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway, now 43, dresses with elegance as she flaunts her baby bump. She recently shared the joyous news in June that she and her husband, Adam Shulman, are anticipating the arrival of their third child.

Equally captivating, Lupita Nyong’o, also 43, portrays both Helen and her sister Clytemnestra. She collaborated with stylist Micaela Erlanger to perfect a dynamic range of outfits featuring trench coats and tailored garments.

The film — which also stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and Zendaya’s husband, Tom Holland, as Telemachus — hits theaters July 17. Below, see every look from the tour so far.

July 6, London premiere

Hathaway brought the color in a blue Dior gown, cradling her bump on the carpet alongside Holland and the rest of the cast.

For Monday’s world premiere in London’s Leicester Square, Zendaya went couture in a Schiaparelli fall 2026 gown with a sculpted bodice and a sheer beaded skirt — a look that debuted at the house’s Paris runway that same morning.

She had a quick change, too, trading her breastplate for a Valentino gown with a tiny floral top and side cutouts.

Nyong’o showed off her curves in a glittering Christian Cowan gown with side cutouts that dipped well past her hips.

Charlize Theron added dramatic white gloves to her black Givenchy gown.

Mia Goth, too, chose Dior, wearing a stunning white beaded and draped gown with a blue flower at the hip.

July 5, London photo call

Zendaya was “the essence of Athena,” as Roach put it, in a custom white Jacquemus halter gown with a low draped back and a built-in headscarf that echoed classical Greek sculpture. She finished the look with Louboutin pumps and ancient-coin-inspired Barron London earrings.

Hathaway gave maternity dressing a Grecian turn in a white Blumarine off-the-shoulder halter dress with a ruffled high-low hem, styling it with tan Gianvito Rossi suede boots and Bulgari hoops, a watch and stacked rings.

Nyong’o looked incredible in a Chanel dress with a sash tied at the hips and a thigh-high slit, worn with black-and-white pumps and Tasaki jewelry.

Pedigree Initiates Recall of Dog Food Due to Sharp Metal and Plastic Contamination

Updated:

In a development stirring concern among pet owners, Mars Petcare has issued a recall for specific lots of its Pedigree canned wet dog food. The company revealed that certain cans, which were intended to be discarded, inadvertently made their way into stores and may contain perilous fragments of metal and plastic.

This recall is specifically targeting the 13.2-ounce cans of Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor, marked with the lot codes 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC.

Mars said the two lots had failed the company’s quality checks and were sent to be destroyed. Mars later learned that didn’t happen, and the cans were instead sold to consumers across the country.

The company said it’s working with authorities to figure out how that happened.

Mars said the affected cans could contain sharp metal and plastic fragments, which could hurt a dog if swallowed. As of the announcement on July 2, Mars hadn’t received any reports of dogs getting sick or hurt from the recalled cans.

If a dog has eaten the affected products already, they should be monitored for vomiting, loss of appetite, drooling, trouble swallowing or unusual lethargy.

No other Pedigree or Mars Petcare products are included in the recall.

Jesy Nelson Reflects on Emotional Journey with Twins in Neonatal Intensive Care, Shares Heartfelt Photo

Jesy Nelson has emotionally recounted her challenging experience in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), sharing an adorable new photo of her newborn twin daughters.

Following a high-risk pregnancy, Jesy and her partner Zion Foster joyfully announced the safe arrival of their twin girls at 31 weeks. In an Instagram post shared earlier this month, they introduced Ocean Jade and Story Monroe to the world.

The former Little Mix singer, 33, expressed feelings of fear and being overwhelmed as she navigates the NICU journey with her daughters.

She wrote candidly: “Nothing or no one can ever truly prepare you as a parent for the realities of NICU.”

“It’s an incredibly scary and overwhelming mix of emotions, feeling like you’re unable to protect your babies,” she continued.

‘Naturally as a mother you just want to hold them and comfort them when they cry but you can’t because there are what feels like a million wires coming out of them and tubes and masks in the way with people poking and prodding them it breaks your heart into a million pieces.

‘But slowly as the days go by and they get stronger and wires start to come away, moments like this feel like a dream.

‘Having them reunited for the first time ever today was the most magical feeling I will never be able to describe. The strongest little girls I’ve ever known who really do have the most inspiring story to tell’.

Several fans were quick to take to the comments to send their well wishes and to tell Jesy she is ‘so brave and strong’.

They wrote: ‘Such strong girls ❤️ All 3 of you!❤️ Sending love and strength to you four xxx; forever proud of you my darling. the most strongest & precious little angels;

‘You’re so brave and strong. Sending all the love in the world your way. I’m so happy for you; Everyday that goes past you all get stronger and stronger. Everyone is so proud of you and your babies’.

Jesy has seemingly made a sweet nod to her former Little Mix bandmate when she revealed the unique names of her newborn twin daughters.

The singer took to social media, three days after giving birth prematurely, to reveal that her girls names were Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster.

However, while it was assumed that the name ‘Jade’ was in tribute to Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall, it appears that this isn’t the case.

Jesy had been in hospital since late March after being diagnosed with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). But she confirmed both girls were safe and well days after giving birth early [pictured earlier this month]

In fact, the truth behind the name is much closer to home, with Jesy actually naming her daughter after her older sister Jade, whom she is really close to.

A source told The Mirror of the moniker: ‘The names which have been chosen they came up with during their long stay in hospital over the last two months as they waited for the twins to grow bigger before they were born.

‘Jade was always going to be a middle name as Jesy is very close to her sister. It is a nod to her sister rather than anything else.’

Meanwhile, the publication confirmed that Jesy, partner Zion Foster and their baby girls were still in hospital following the birth and may be there for some time yet.

They shared: ‘They will definitely be in hospital a little longer yet but are just enjoying spending time with their babies. Jesy and Zion are so happy and thrilled the twins are here and have arrived safe and well.’

MailOnline have contacted representatives of Jesy for comment.

Jesy had been in hospital since late March after being diagnosed with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) – a rare condition that can put one or both babies at risk.

But she confirmed both girls were safe and well after taking to Instagram days after giving birth early.

Jesy revealed her babies’ adorable names to her 9.7million fans alongside sharing two sweet pictures of the couple cradling the newborns.

She wrote: ‘So… Our beautiful baby girls decided to come at 31 weeks plus 5 days. It all happened so quickly, but we are so blessed that they are here with us, healthy and fighting strong! We’ve never felt more in love.

‘Everybody meet Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster.’

The name Ocean, derived from the Greek word keanós, is often associated with power and mystery, but can also be seen as a symbol of new beginnings and hope.

The couple paired Ocean with middle name Jade – also the name of one of her former band mates – which at the time was seen as a potential olive branch to her former friend.

Jesy famously quit and distanced herself from Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock after she quit Little Mix in 2020.

Her choice of name for her second daughter Story draws a connection with creativity, imagination and adventure. It’s derived from Old Norse storr, meaning ‘large’ or ‘big’.

Her middle name Monroe is of Scottish and Irish Gaelic origin and is a gender-neutral name, meaning mouth of the River Roe, referring to a specific river in Northern Ireland. There’s also an edge of Hollywood glamour to it as Marilyn Monroe is naturally attached to the name.

In March, Jesy had to undergo an emergency procedure after suffering complications and was advised to remain in hospital until she was at least 32 weeks into her pregnancy.

Throughout the ordeal, Zion admitted he and Jesy, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her procedure, had ‘grown to understand each other on a deeper level’.

He told OK!: ‘I think it’s at these times when you really, really know what love you have and what your relationship means.

‘And I think for me and Jess, this has just taken it to a whole other level of us knowing we are literally made for each other.’

He said the couple had also tried to make the hospital as much of a home as possible.

‘There’s a couch that turns into a bed that we pushed next to the hospital bed, so we’ve made our own double bed.

‘And it’s like we’ve moved in. The nurses just said, “Oh, my God. It looks so nice in here. It looks so homely”.’

The couple revealed Nelson’s TTTS diagnosis in March.

Nelson later broke down in tears while revealing she needed surgery because her symptoms had worsened.

She explained: ‘Unfortunately, the symptoms have got worse so they now have to perform the procedure, which is obviously not what we wanted to happen but it’s necessary because it’s going to give our babies the best chance of surviving.

‘So we’re just waiting to go in and we’re just hoping and praying for the best really.

‘I feel absolutely gutted because I was really hoping we wouldn’t be in this position.

‘It’s obviously really scary because there’s so many things that can happen. Pray for us, please.’

Asma Khalil, Professor of Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine at St George’s Hospital, University of London, recommends that families facing a similar situation to Nelson and her partner contact the charity, Twins Trust, for resources and support.

She said: ‘TTTS is a rare but life-threatening condition that affects 10 to 15% of identical twins that share a placenta (monochorionic twins).’

WHAT IS TWIN-TWIN TRANSFUSION SYNDROME?

Twin-twin transfusion syndrome is a rare but serious condition that can occur in identical pregnancies when twins share a placenta.

Abnormal blood vessel connections form in the placenta and prevent blood from flowing evenly between the babies.

One twin then becomes dehydrated, which affects its growth.

The other develops high blood pressure and produces too much urine.

This leads to an enlarged bladder and excessive amounts of amniotic fluid, which can put a strain on the twin’s heart, leading to heart failure.

Without treatment, TTTS can be fatal for both twins.

The condition occurs in about around 15 per cent of identical twins who share a placenta, according to the charity Twins Trust.

Around 300 twins die from the condition every year in the UK, while 6,000 babies are affected annually in the US.

Draining excess amniotic fluid can help to improve blood flow.

If this is not enough, laser surgery is used to seal shut abnormal blood vessels and permanently disconnect them.

The surgeon then drains excess fluid.

Even when treated successfully, most TTTS babies are born premature.

However, the majority go on to have long, healthy lives.

Parents Arrested as Tragic Twist Unfolds in Missing Javeayah Harris Case

Authorities in South Carolina have confirmed the arrest of the parents of 4-year-old Javeayah Harris, who is believed to be dead. This development comes as the heartbreaking investigation unfolds.

Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer Jr. revealed this somber update on July 4. He noted that investigators now suspect Javeayah passed away before being reported missing on June 30.

“We utilized every resource at our disposal to locate Javeayah and hoped to bring her back safely,” Sawyer stated. “Tragically, it seems our efforts were already in vain by the time the 911 call was placed on June 30th. Current findings indicate she has been deceased for at least one month.”

In addition, Sawyer announced the arrests of Javeayah’s parents, 23-year-old Johmarea Harris and 22-year-old Michilae Herring, both of whom face charges of homicide by child abuse. Herring is also charged with filing a false report.

Sawyer expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is the most difficult announcement I’ve had to make in my 36 years of law enforcement service. It grieves me to inform you that our investigation and evidence suggest that Javeayah Harris, just four years old, is no longer with us. It’s the dreaded reality we confront, but we shall face it together as a strong community. Our commitment to the search for Javeayah continues.”

What Happened to Javeayah Harris?

The investigation began June 30 after Javeayah’s mom called 911 to report that the 4-year-old disappeared while playing near the family’s chicken coop at their Aiken home, according to The Augusta Press.

Authorities were told the Javeayah—described by the sheriff’s office as “smart, talkative, and friendly”—was last seen wearing a pair of Crocs and Minnie Mouse pajamas.

In the days that followed, a massive search effort was launched to try to find the girl. Multiple law enforcement agencies and other first responders joined together to search more than 5,000 acres, according to the sheriff’s office, using helicopters, drones and ground searches.

“We have trained emergency management personnel and law enforcement officers,” the sheriff’s office noted at the time, “who have blanketed the area using proven search and rescue techniques and are not accepting volunteers.”

Yet, the direction of the investigation changed course on July 4, when Sawyer announced that evidence led investigators to now believe that Javeayah died weeks before she was ever reported missing.

Authorities have not provided any information about what led them to draw that conclusion.

The sheriff’s office has said they remain committed to finding Javeayah.

Neighbor Says Others Had Tried to Care For Javeayah Harris

Before law enforcement authorities made the announcement, one of the family’s neighbors, identified only as Ms. Young, told WYFF that something seemed off about the story that the little girl would have just wandered away from home.

“She won’t cross the street; she likes to hold people’s hands,” Ms. Young explained. “Even when she walked to the refrigerator, she still wanted to hold your hand.”

She added that other neighbors in the area had allegedly helped care for the girl after raising concerns about her wellbeing at home.

“They fed her, bathed her, and gave her new clothes and sent her back home,” she told the outlet. “It wasn’t just me; people in that neighborhood noticed the exact same thing.”

Javeayah’s mother reportedly gave birth to another child July 1. The sheriff’s office announced July 4 that the newborn had been placed in the care of other family members, The Augusta Press reported.

Both of Javeayah’s parents were denied bond July 5, WYFF reported. Its unclear whether either has retained an attorney.

Oxygen reached out to the county’s public defender but did not receive an immediate response.

Belgium Coach’s Surprising Message to Folarin Balogun Following World Cup Red Card Incident

0

Following Belgium’s decisive 4-1 victory over the United States in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16, Belgium’s head coach Rudi Garcia and American forward Folarin Balogun addressed any lingering tensions between them.

In the post-match press conference, Garcia was open about their discussion, noting that he harbored no ill feelings towards Balogun after FIFA controversially lifted his one-game red-card suspension.

“He approached me for a chat, and I appreciated that gesture,” Garcia remarked in French with the aid of an interpreter after the match took place in Seattle.

“It is not his fault; he is not the one to blame — and that’s what I told him. I really appreciate the intention that he came to see me. I appreciate this player.”

Their conversation came after Balogun’s reinstatement created a spectacle — and Garcia compared it to April Fools’ Day at his pre-match press conference.

FIFA announced Sunday that Balogun’s one-match ban — after he received a red card in the Americans’ win over Bosnia in the Round of 32— had been suspended for a year.

The decision came after President Donald Trump called FIFA president Gianni Infantino to request a review of the play where Balogun hit Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic from behind in the 61st minute.

Belgium was granted the right to appeal FIFA’s decision to suspend Balogun’s one-game ban, but he was still cleared to play.

Discover 5 Hulu TV Shows That Outshine The Bear in Quality and Entertainment

As curtains close on June 25, 2026, Hulu’s series “The Bear” bids farewell to its fans. In the parlance of the restaurant world, Christopher Storer’s gripping kitchen dramedy is officially “86ed.” Renowned for five seasons, the show follows Jeremy Allen White’s portrayal of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a high-end chef who returns to his Chicago roots after the death of his brother Mikey, brought to life by Jon Bernthal. He shoulders the burden of reviving the family’s ailing sandwich shop. Alongside an eclectic group — including sous chef Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri), Mikey’s old friend Richie Jerimovitch (Ebon Moss-Bacharach), sister Natalie (Abby Elliott), faithful line cook Tina Marrero (Liza Colón-Zayas), and close family friend Neil Fak (Matty Matheson) — they aspire to transform The Original Beef of Chicagoland into a revered fine-dining establishment aptly named “The Bear.”

A cultural phenomenon, “The Bear” injected terms like “Yes, chef” and “Hands” into broader vernacular, captivating viewers with its taut narratives, meticulous editing — most notably the acclaimed one-take episode from the first season — and outstanding performances underscored by carefully curated soundtracks. These elements earned the series a host of accolades, including multiple Emmy Awards for White, Edebiri, and Moss-Bacharach, plus the coveted outstanding comedy series prize in 2023. One might wonder, then, if anything could surpass the brilliance of “The Bear.”

The answer is a resounding yes. For those just off a “The Bear” binge, eager for new viewing adventures, Hulu offers at least five other series that arguably surpass Storer’s widely talked-about creation. These shows deftly balance humor and drama, presenting fresher, more compelling options worth adding to any watchlist.

PEN15

Among these standout series, “PEN15” emerges as a peculiar yet brilliant choice. Created by Maya Erskine, Anna Konkle, and Sam Zvibleman with production support from The Lonely Island, “PEN15” is gloriously bizarre — an attribute that stands as a testament to its ingenuity. Erskine and Konkle boldly embody themselves as awkward seventh-graders, Maya Ishii-Peters and Anna Kone, respectively — navigating the cringe-worthy yet formative moments of adolescence. For those who navigated the early 2000s, the show strikes a nostalgic chord, capturing the era’s distinctive charm with impeccable props, such as the playful home phones adored by teenagers then.

In less adept hands, “PEN15” might have descended into mere gimmickry. However, Erskine and Konkle, equipped with faux braces, questionable haircuts, and ill-fitting school uniforms, convey the universal struggle of being an outsider during the most awkward of years. The series masterfully delivers humor through surreal “kissing” scenes with adult actors cleverly edited to replace younger characters, alongside awkward life lessons for Maya and Anna. “PEN15” doesn’t just reflect childhood; it resurrects the past in all its glorious, awkward authenticity, offering viewers a potent mix of nostalgia and hilarity.

Reservation Dogs

Created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, “Reservation Dogs” is a landmark series for a handful of reasons — but most importantly, the entire cast is made up of Native American actors, and the vast majority of the directors and crew also hail from Native American tribes and lands. This is so important for a show like “Reservation Dogs” because this is a story that can only be told by someone who has authentically lived it — specifically, a story about a group of teenagers who want to embrace their heritage while also living outside of the Oklahoma reservation they feel has confined their lifes thus far.

“Reservation Dogs” focuses on a group of four Native American teenagers — the responsible and upright Elora Danan Postoak (Devery Jacobs), fatherless Bear Smallhill (D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai), mischievous Chester “Cheese” Williams (Lane Factor), and Two-spirited Wilhelmina Jacqueline “Willie Jack” Sampson (Paulina Alexis) — but also features a massive ensemble cast that includes Native American actors Zahn McClarnon, Dallas Goldtooth, and Elva Guerra. (The guest cast of this series also boasts incredible names like Lily Gladstone, Amber Midthunder, and even Megan Mullally, just to name a few.) Across just three seasons, “Reservation Dogs” brings you into the lives of these four teenagers and lets you experience all of their trials and tribulations … and it’s genuinely amazing from beginning to end.

Difficult People

From 2015 to 2017, Hulu was the exclusive home to two of the worst people in the history of streaming … and they were just delightful to watch. Created by star Julie Klausner, “Difficult People,” an acidic and straight-up bitter comedy produced by Amy Poehler, introduces audiences to Billy Epstein (Billy Eichner) and Julie Kessler (Klausner), two best friends who wander around New York City, get into shenanigans, and utter tons of unprompted, out-of-context, and hysterically mean evaluations of pop culture. (At one point, the two are attending a show and Julie says, out of nowhere, “Isn’t it funny how Jimmy Fallon slowly turned The Tonight Show into a children’s birthday party?” This never comes up again, but it’s unbelievably funny.)

With comedy legends like Andrea Martin on hand as Julie’s controlling mother Marilyn, then-newcomers like Cole Escola providing insane one-liners during all of their scenes as one of Billy’s restaurant coworkers (years before Escola won a well-deserved Tony for originating the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in their original farce “Oh Mary!”), and character actor and Swiss army knife of a performer James Urbaniak as Julie’s boyfriend, the main cast of “Difficult People” is stacked. That’s to say nothing of supporting players like Gabourey Sidibe, Shannon DeVido, and Derrick Baskin and guest stars like Seth Meyers, Nathan Lane, Kate McKinnon, and John Mulaney, just to name a few. If you’ve never watched “Difficult People,” this underrated gem is uncomfortable but amazing … and a lot funnier than “The Bear.”

The Lowdown

Yes, there are two Sterlin Harjo shows on this list — but you know what? Not only does he work with Hulu a lot, this guy is just really good at making television. After “Reservation Dogs” ended in 2023, Harjo returned to the streamer with “The Lowdown” in 2025, bringing Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke to the small screen in a story that’s very loosely inspired by the wonderful misadventures of writer and historian Lee Roy Chapman.

Hawke stars as Lee Raybon, a man in Tulsa, Oklahoma who works as a book seller and amateur historian (he calls himself a “truthstorian”) who takes a huge risk by publishing a big exposé on a local powerful family called the Washburgs. When the patriarch, Dale Washburg (Tim Blake Nelson), dies under strange circumstances, Lee finds himself drawn into a mystery bigger than he ever dreamed alongside his friend, private investigator Marty Brunner (Keith David), who’s working for the Washburgs and trying to uncover the truth.

Hawke is endlessly charming as the endlessly curious, impulsive, and hilarious Lee, and he and David are joined by fellow industry veterans and legends like Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tracy Letts, and Michael Hitchcock. (Plus, for “Reservation Dogs” fans, some of those performers show up in guest roles … as does four-time Emmy winner and “Game of Thrones” alum Peter Dinklage.) “The Lowdown” is fresh, funny, and gripping, and it blends comedy and drama in a way that “The Bear” could never manage.

Ramy

Ramy Youssef is one of Hollywood’s most promising performers, having proven himself as a phenomenal stand-up comedian and actor throughout the years — and if you haven’t seen his eponymous Hulu show “Ramy,” you’re in for a treat. Created by Youssef alongside his collaborators Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch, “Ramy” takes place in New Jersey and stars Youssef as, you guessed it, a guy named Ramy Hassan … but more specifically, it focuses on Ramy’s life as a first-generation Muslim-American living in a neighborhood and world split by strict political lines. Ramy frequently seeks advice and counsel from his sister Dena (“Moon Knight” star May Calamawy) and bristles against the strict rules set by his parents, Egyptian immigrants Farouk and Maysa (Amr Waked and “Succession” player Hiam Abbess).

As Ramy struggles with dating, American social norms that clash with those of his family, and the rediscovery of his own personal faith, the larger series takes a searing look at how welcoming and unwelcoming America can be to anyone deemed “different” — and how first-generation “kids” like Ramy have to carefully figure out the best way to assimilate that will keep their families and society at large happy. “Ramy,” like many of the other shows on this list, strikes a perfect balance between comedy and drama … which is, again, something “The Bear” struggled with for its entire run.

All of these shows, including “The Bear,” are streaming on Hulu now.
