Revealed: Alex Rodriguez’s White Party Mystery Woman Steals the Spotlight

0

The enigmatic brunette seen in a romantic moment with New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez has been identified.

The former Yankees star, now 50 years old, was noted sharing an intimate moment with the then-unnamed woman during Michael Rubin’s exclusive White Party in The Hamptons last week.

This affectionate encounter came shortly after Rodriguez’s split from fitness coach Jaclyn Cordeiro, sparking widespread discussion.

It seems the Major League Baseball icon has a clear preference, as it’s been disclosed that his new romantic interest comes from the same professional circle.

According to the New York Post, Rodriguez is currently linked with Meghan Hayden, a private fitness coach, who is at the center of the recent buzz.

‘They are dating. It’s new. She’s a really nice person from a great family,’ an insider told the outlet.

The couple are said to have arrived at the Gatsby-esque soiree at Rubin’s $50million mansion near Bridgehampton, Long Island, with a group of friends.

However, Rodriguez and Hayden ‘definitely looked coupled up’ with his friends redirecting the flirtatious advances of other women away from the former baseball star.

Hayden is a former Division I athlete and University of Miami graduate, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, according to her website, ‘Take Off With Meg.’

In addition to coaching her clients, the fitness instructor also models for brands such as Under Armour and Athleta.

Rodriguez, who previously enjoyed a high-profile romance with Jennifer Lopez, was caught locking lips with Hayden during the exclusive White Party.

In a passionate display, the couple were seen sharing a romantic kiss and chatting during the celebrations at Rubin’s 8,100-sq-feet Hamptons home.

Rodriguez leaned in as Hayden, who wore a silky halter backless mini dress, wrapped her hand around the back of his head.

The raunchy rendezvous comes six weeks after the former baseball star and his ex-girlfriend Cordeiro, 46, called it quits.

The couple, who had been together for over three years, reportedly chose to go their separate ways after a long period of reflection

‘To clarify, Alex and I are currently taking some time apart but there continues to be mutual love, care, and deep respect between us and for our families,’ Cordeiro told TMZ.

‘We remain supportive of one another, and there is absolutely no animosity, drama, or negative story here,’ she added. ‘I’m also navigating a serious health matter involving a family member at this time, so my focus is understandably there.

‘Alex and I continue to be very close, and out of respect for everyone involved especially our daughters and loved ones I’d kindly ask that any reporting reflects the compassion and privacy this situation deserves.’

Insiders close to the New York Yankees legend revealed that the couple had actually been quietly living separate lives for about two months before the news broke.

Cordeiro is also reportedly navigating a serious health matter involving a close family member, which has naturally shifted her personal focus away from the relationship.

The couple were first romantically linked back in October 2022 before making their relationship Instagram official during a festive family trip that winter.

They later made their first major public appearance together at an NBA game in January 2023, quickly becoming a staple of the celebrity sports scene.

Throughout their three-year romance, the pair frequently shared glimpses of their blended families, often posing alongside their respective daughters on social media.

Marco Rubio’s Insightful Response to Balogun’s Red Card Reversal by FIFA

0

Secretary of State Marco Rubio faced an unexpected query on Monday morning but seemed ready with a response.

Entering a meeting with Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna at the State Department, Rubio was approached by a reporter during the introductory handshake between the officials.

“Mr. Secretary, what’s your reaction to FIFA reversing the red card suspension after pressure?” questioned an off-camera voice.

Contrary to some reports, there was no external pressure involved. Earlier, President Trump revealed in an Oval Office session that he contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss the red card that sidelined Folarin Balogun, a key player for the U.S. Men’s National Team, during a pivotal World Cup match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Balogun faced suspension from playing in the next round against Belgium due to the card. Though Trump believed the decision was flawed and warranted review, Infantino made it clear that FIFA’s independent judicial bodies hold authority in such matters and final decisions are beyond his purview.

Gainesville Resident Receives 15-Year Prison Term Following Guilty Plea to 20 Child Pornography Offenses

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a recent court decision, 30-year-old Alexander William Callison has been sentenced to a 15-year prison term, followed by 10 years under sexual offender supervision, after submitting a plea of nolo contendere regarding 20 separate child pornography charges.

Callison’s initial arrest took place on June 4, 2025, following a CyberTip that traced a Kik account linked to 651 images and videos. Remarkably, 591 of these visual files depicted a similar individual—described as a lean, muscular Caucasian male with tattoos, featuring a cross on his chest and an additional marking on his forearm.

Further investigations revealed another CyberTip comprising conversations with other Kik users who claimed to be underage. Callison was found to have sent videos of a sexual nature after learning of their purported ages, and the exchanges reportedly included sixteen occasions where he solicited inappropriate content from these individuals.

The phone number used for establishing the initial Kik account was directly connected to Callison. This same number was tied to the IP address utilized for content uploads found in the second CyberTip, further disclosing Callison’s involvement.

On June 5, 2026, Callison entered a plea of nolo contendere to 10 counts of using a computer to solicit a minor, five counts of transmission of material harmful to minors, two counts of possession of child pornography, and three counts of directing or promoting a sexual performance by a child.

Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard sentenced him to three concurrent sentences of 15 years in prison for the three counts of directing or promoting a sexual performance by a child, and she added 10 concurrent sentences of five years of sex offender probation for using a computer to solicit a minor, followed by an additional seven concurrent sentences of five years of sex offender probation on the remaining charges. Callison will be designated as a sexual offender with lifetime registration obligations.

Callison has been held in the Alachua County Jail since his original arrest and will be credited 370 days toward the prison sentence.

Dave Portnoy Criticizes USMNT Following Belgium’s Commanding World Cup Win

0

Dave Portnoy unleashed a fiery, expletive-laden tirade online, slamming the US Men’s National Team for what he described as their “pathetic” performance in the crushing defeat to Belgium on Monday night.

“The United States delivered an embarrassing effort. The bright lights overwhelmed US soccer, and the stage was simply too grand,” Portnoy expressed on platform X following Belgium’s commanding 4-1 win in Seattle.

In a self-recorded video, the Barstool Sports chief boldly stripped off his USA soccer attire in a display of frustration, targeting several players shortly after the game concluded.

“We’re a complete mess. That entire match was a fiasco. If you want us to cheer for our team, how about having a goalkeeper who doesn’t just gift goals by carelessly kicking the ground and handing them to the opponents?” Portnoy remarked, singling out goalkeeper Matt Freese.

The American goalkeeper’s failed attempt to clear the ball outside the penalty area resulted in a turnover, allowing Belgium to seize the opportunity and score, making it 3-1 just 12 minutes into the latter half of the match.

“If we’re gonna create international incidents, we gotta stop having goalies who don’t know what they’re doing and a defense getting thrown around like f–king Christmas trees.

The heated Portnoy called for a draft for soccer to get better players if America was gonna keep getting into “international incidents,” after US officials got involved with the World Cup officiating to have Folarin Balogun’s one-game ban overturned.

“Listen if we are gonna keep making an international incident in FIFA and Trump’s gonna bully them and s–t and everyone’s gonna be like the angry Americans, then we’re gonna have to start instituting a draft in soccer,” Portnoy said. “Hey LeBron, no offense, you’re going to play f–king soccer and all these other great athletes that we got, you got to go play soccer.”

Portnoy called for better players to make up the American squad, which has four years to train before the next World Cup.

“These are country club D-tier athletes we got out here,” he said. “Again, I’m fine if we’re gonna sit on the sidelines and just be like ‘soccer, cool, cool.’”

The hot-tempered entrepreneur showed some sportsmanship to congratulate Belgium for making it to the quarterfinal match against Spain on Friday.

“As a proud American let me be the first to congratulate Belgium. You guys were the far superior team,” he wrote. “Granted I can’t tell if you guys are any good cause we are so pathetic but you beat us fair and square. Now in hindsight doesn’t all the bellyaching about Balogun playing seem silly?”

USA fans were quick to rip the team following the embarrassing loss.

“Soccer lost more than the US did with this loss. This World Cup was supposed to turn American fans on to soccer with a much hyped Team USA. Now anytime a casual American fan sees a soccer game they will just be reminded of that keystone cops goal Freese gave up. They will just turn it off. That game was a disaster for both the US and for soccer,” one person wrote.

“That was an embarrassing display! Pulisic is a fraud and the defense is an absolute joke!” another used added.

Farage Confronts Television Crew Over Financial Controversy Amid Support from Trump

0

Nigel Farage found himself in a heated exchange with a television crew late yesterday as he made his way back to the UK, amidst escalating controversies concerning his financial dealings.

Returning from a visit to the United States, the leader of Reform UK confronted a Sky News journalist at Heathrow Airport.

Farage is facing intense scrutiny, greater than any other period during his leadership of the Reform Party, due to revelations that a steadfast supporter, George Cottrell, allegedly provided undisclosed contributions for his security and personnel expenses in the year leading up to his election.

Meanwhile, an inquiry by Parliament’s standards commissioner, Daniel Greenberg, is underway regarding a substantial £5 million donation Farage received from cryptocurrency mogul Christopher Harborne.

When questioned about the potential oversight in declaring these gifts, Farage responded with annoyance, stating, ‘Inform your superiors that if harassing my family persists… there will be serious repercussions. This is what your organization has started today. Leave now.’

Sky said it had not contacted anyone from Mr Farage’s family about the story.

Mr Farage did manage to win the backing of Donald Trump after his transatlantic trip. The US president, a long-term ally, appeared to echo his claim that he is the victim of an ‘establishment hit job’ over claims he failed to declare cash and gifts worth millions before becoming an MP.

But Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch laid into him in a speech this morning, accusing him of ‘hiding’ from the row and Reform of being ‘completely distracted by their constant scandals and personal dramas’.

Mr Farage is under the heaviest pressure of his time as Reform leader following reports that long-term ally George Cottrell had provided undeclared funding for security and staffing in the year before he was elected

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, the US leader shared a link to an article on The National Pulse website titled ‘They’re Running the 2024 Anti-Trump Playbook on Nigel Farage’.

The article accuses the UK media of giving far more coverage to ‘every gaffe, controversy, or disagreement’ by Farage and Reform, while ‘policy successes or growing voter support are frequently downplayed’.

Mr Trump personally called Mr Farage to congratulate him on his political success in achieving the removal of Sir Keir Starmer from No 10, The Times reported.

The Sunday Times reported this weekend that Mr Cottrell, known as ‘Posh George’, who has a fraud conviction in the United States, provided funding for staffing and security, and the use of a London townhouse.

Critics have said that this should have been declared under Parliamentary rules in place at the time of Mr Farage’s election in 2024, under which new MPs were required to register any gifts worth more than £300 they received in the previous 12 months, except where the gift ‘could not be reasonably thought by others’ to relate to their political activities.

Mr Cottrell reportedly recruited and paid three staff to work on Mr Farage’s social media before the general election, and has continued to allow him to use a five-storey Georgian property he rented near Buckingham Palace.

If the probe finds against the Reform leader and suspends him from the Commons for more than 30 days he would be subject to a recall petition by voters, which could trigger a summer by-election.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats have already demanded a parliamentary sleaze inquiry into the latest claims.

The Reform leader on Sunday issued a statement saying he had not broken any rules.

He said: ‘I have done no wrongdoing, followed the rules and I am now considering legal action against The Sunday Times.

‘It’s now clear the establishment will stop at nothing to hurt Reform – we want to smash their cosy consensus.’

Labour has asked the Electoral Commission to investigate whether the support should have been declared because Mr Farage was a prominent figure in Reform even before he returned to frontline politics.

The party also questioned whether Montenegro-based Mr Cottrell was a permissible donor, claiming it was not clear whether he was on a UK electoral register at the time.

Labour Party chairwoman Anna Turley wrote to the Electoral Commission to call for an investigation.

She said: ‘It is now abundantly clear that Mr Farage may have not only broken Parliamentary rules, he may have broken the law.

‘Farage can’t brazenly brush this off as being ‘none of your business’ any longer. He needs to own his self-inflicted scandal and prove he’s not been secretly breaking the rules and taking the British public for fools.’

Meet Erdoğan: Turkey’s Unpredictable Leader Reshaping NATO and Global Politics

0

With President Donald Trump preparing for his visit to Ankara, Turkey, to attend the forthcoming NATO summit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan once more finds himself at the heart of alliance dynamics.

Trump’s admiration for Erdoğan, whom he describes as “a friend” and “a respected leader,” emphasizes a growing rapport that could significantly influence defense discussions between Washington and Ankara, particularly concerning Turkey’s persistent drive to strengthen military collaboration.

This scenario underscores Erdoğan’s notable stature: formerly one of NATO’s more challenging partners following Turkey’s 2019 acquisition of the Russian S-400 missile defense system, the nation’s influence within the alliance has only become more crucial amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, continual unrest in the Middle East, and the increasing strategic importance of the Black Sea.

Nevertheless, Erdoğan is often seen as an enigmatic figure. Analysts suggest that rather than adhering to a single ideological perspective, Erdoğan frequently shifts politically, aligning himself with ideologies that serve his primary aim: securing his position of power.

Erdoğan has ruled Turkey for more than two decades, evolving from an Istanbul mayor with Islamist roots into a pro-European reformer, then a nationalist strongman, and now a pivotal NATO power broker courted by Trump.

To supporters, he restored Turkey’s global stature. To critics, he hollowed out its democracy while jailing rivals, journalists and activists. But Erdoğan’s most defining trait, experts say, may be less ideology than survival.

Is he an Islamist? A nationalist? A Western ally? A Russian partner? An authoritarian?

Perhaps the most important thing to understand about Erdoğan is that he has been all of those things — at different moments, according to Gönül Tol, founding director of the Middle East Institute’s Turkey Program and author of “Erdoğan’s War: A Strongman’s Struggle at Home and in Syria.”

“He’s not an ideological man,” Tol told News Media. “He’s very pragmatic, first and foremost a populist.”

Erdoğan’s roots lie in Turkey’s Islamist political movement. Educated at an Imam Hatip religious school, he entered politics through National Outlook, a right-wing Islamist movement founded by Necmettin Erbakan, and eventually became mayor of Istanbul as a member of Erbakan’s Welfare Party.

But after founding the AKP, or Justice and Development Party, in 2001, Erdoğan abandoned the Islamist label, presenting himself instead as a “conservative democrat” committed to economic reform and closer ties with Europe — a shift that experts say marked the first of several political reinventions.

When Erdoğan and his Justice and Development Party first swept to power in 2002, Turkey was seeking membership in the European Union, military influence over politics was shrinking, and Erdoğan promised democratic reforms, economic modernization and closer ties with the West.

Many liberals and centrists initially supported him.

“He often said, ‘I’m not an Islamist anymore. I’m a conservative democrat,'” Tol said. “And that brand really served him well.”

Those early years transformed both Turkey’s economy and Erdoğan’s popularity.

After consolidating power, Erdoğan began another political transformation.

Following the Arab Spring in 2011, he increasingly portrayed himself as a champion of political Islam, backing Islamist movements across the Middle East while presenting himself domestically as the defender of Turkey’s conservative religious majority.

“He wanted to inject more Islam into public life, into education,” Tol said. “He was using this more Islamist narrative… the goal was always to acquire more power.”

That anti-Western turn went beyond rhetoric.

In 2016, Erdoğan accused the U.S.-led coalition of supporting terrorist groups in Syria, including ISIS and Kurdish militias that Turkey considers terrorist organizations— an allegation the State Department dismissed as “ludicrous,” according to Reuters.

His increasingly vocal support for Hamas and sharp criticism of Israel became defining features of his foreign policy.

“The perpetrators of the massacre and the destruction taking place in Gaza are those providing unlimited support for Israel,” Erdoğan said in 2023, adding that Israel’s attacks and those backing them amounted to “murder and mental illness,” according to Reuters.

Tol cautions against viewing those positions alone as evidence that Erdoğan remains primarily motivated by Islamism.

“Anti-Israel sentiment cuts across ideological lines in Turkey,” she said, arguing that Erdoğan’s foreign policy has consistently reflected political calculation more than religious doctrine.

As Turkey’s economy slowed and regional ambitions faltered, Erdoğan pivoted once again.

He embraced Turkish nationalism, built alliances with hardline nationalist parties and cultivated the image of an indispensable strongman capable of restoring Turkey’s historical influence.

Supporters credit him with transforming Turkey into a regional power.

“He does have genuine support,” Tol said, estimating his support at roughly 35%.

Some supporters depend on government assistance and patronage networks built under his rule. Others believe Erdoğan restored dignity to conservative religious Turks who long felt marginalized by the country’s secular establishment.

Still others view his increasingly assertive foreign policy as proof Turkey has reclaimed its place on the world stage.

“They think, ‘We have become a world-class nation,'” Tol said. “‘Everyone is praising our president. Turkey is a big player.'”

While Erdoğan continues to command a loyal political base, critics say the price has been Turkey’s democratic institutions.

Authorities increasingly have used courts and criminal investigations to sideline political opponents, including Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose arrest earlier in 2026 triggered nationwide demonstrations, according to Human Rights Watch.

The organization says the government has intensified efforts to weaken Turkey’s main opposition party despite its strong performance in the 2024 municipal elections.

Today, Erdoğan finds himself in another political transformation.

After years of anti-Western rhetoric and disputes with Washington, Turkey has worked to repair relations with the United States and Europe.

That rhetoric was once central to Erdoğan’s posture.

He accused the U.S.-led coalition in Syria of supporting terrorist groups, blasted Washington’s sanctions over Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system, calling them a “hostile attack” on Turkey’s sovereign rights and defense industry, and repeatedly accused Western governments of enabling Israel’s war in Gaza.

The shift comes as Turkey’s strategic importance has grown dramatically.

The S-400 purchase remains at the center of one of the biggest unresolved disputes between Washington and Ankara. After Turkey took delivery of the Russian system in 2019, the U.S. expelled Turkey from the F-35 fighter jet program and later imposed sanctions on Turkey’s defense procurement agency.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey James Jeffrey recently told News Media that restoring Turkey to the F-35 program remains far more complicated than other defense deals because operating the Russian-made S-400 alongside America’s most advanced stealth fighter could expose sensitive U.S. technology.

“The F-35 is a different issue,” Jeffrey said, arguing that the problem is technical, not merely political.

Turkey controls the Bosporus and Dardanelles, fields NATO’s second-largest military and plays a critical role in the Black Sea following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Jeffrey said that Turkey has been “essential to Ukraine staying in the fight,” pointing to Turkey’s enforcement of the Montreux Convention, a 1936 treaty that gives Turkey control over naval passage through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits, its early delivery of Bayraktar drones to Ukraine, and its role as a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow.

“You can’t contain Russia in the Black Sea without Turkey,” Jeffrey said.

For Tol, however, Erdoğan’s latest embrace of NATO is simply another example of his political flexibility.

“There was a time when he was very anti-Western, very critical of NATO, very critical of the United States,” she said.

“And now look at him.”

Anti-Erdogan protests

Human Rights Watch argues Erdoğan has used Turkey’s growing importance to NATO as political cover while expanding pressure on journalists, activists and opposition figures.

Freedom House says Erdoğan has become “increasingly authoritarian” over the past decade, consolidating power through constitutional changes and the imprisonment of political opponents, independent journalists and civil society figures.

Turkey’s prisons held more than 420,000 inmates — far exceeding their official capacity of roughly 304,000, according to a June 2026 report citing Turkish Justice Ministry figures.

NATO allies have grown quieter on Turkey’s rights record as Ankara’s strategic value has risen, Reuters reported ahead of the summit, with former U.S. Ambassador David Satterfield saying it remains important for the West to speak publicly about the “degradation of democratic institutions in Turkey.”

Tol believes Erdoğan’s domestic agenda can be understood through a single principle.

“Everything is designed to keep him in power,” she said. “Beyond that, I don’t see a binding ideology that brings together all his policies.”

As Trump heads to Turkey, that may be the key to understanding one of NATO’s most consequential — and unpredictable — leaders.

Brad Pitt and his chic companion, Ines de Ramon, have officially made their relationship public on Instagram by sharing affectionate photos before they attended Taylor Swift’s lavish wedding ceremony last Friday.

The Troy actor, 62, and the jewelry designer, 33, dressed to the nines in matching black outfits in photos shared by hairstylist Laurie Zanoletti via Instagram on Monday.

The couple, who began their romance in 2022, appeared deeply enamored in the intimate shots, with the father of six gently wrapping an arm around his younger partner.

They were present to witness Swift, 36, tie the knot with Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce, also 36, during a grand affair attended by stars at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Pitt was notably debonair for the event, donning a timeless black suit paired with a bow tie. He completed the look with sleek black sunglasses and sported a neat side-part hairstyle.

In contrast, De Ramon made a statement in a solo photograph, showcasing her elegant silhouette in a sheer black lace dress while posing on the outdoor deck of the exclusive Casa Cipriani along Manhattan’s East River.

She wore her brunette tresses in a sleek ponytail and accessorized with teardrop earrings.

Zanoletti, who styled both de Ramon and Pitt’s hair, wrote in the caption, ‘My favorite lovers @inesdrmn & Brad Pitt for an incredible moment in nyc.’

De Ramon also re-shared the affectionate photos to her Instagram Stories, choosing Swift’s iconic ballad Lover to soundtrack each of the sweet snaps.

She also added a red-heart emoji to the image of Pitt holding her.

However, she has yet to post any photos of her and the actor to her main feed.

Following Swift’s extravagant wedding on Friday, Pitt and de Ramon were spotted leaving the event in an SUV alongside musician Beck.

Swift’s $50million wedding included Paul McCartney singing I Want To Hold Your Hand and movie star Adam Sandler as the surprise officiant.

Others famous guests included Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Sacha Baron Cohen, Hugh Grant, Reese Witherspoon, Graham Norton, Ethan Hawke, Ed Sheeran, Cindy Crawford, Suki Waterhouse and Emma Stone.

Beyonce and Jay Z are understood to have attended as did Dua Lipa, Jessica Alba, Chris Rock, Bradley Cooper, Dakota Johnson and Gigi Hadid.

Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks performed at the reception and was followed by McCartney.

Pitt’s outing at the wedding comes shortly after a source provided clarity on his future plans with de Ramon following his contentious nearly decade-long divorce from Angelina Jolie, 51.

Last month an insider shared with PageSix that Pitt has no intentions of proposing to nor marrying his girlfriend, who is nearly three decades his junior.

‘Ines is incredibly close with Brad’s family. They absolutely adore her and she’s been welcomed with open arms from the beginning,’ the source revealed.

‘At this point they basically consider her family and one of their own. But Brad has no plans on getting married despite how close Ines has become with everyone.’

Marriage may not be in the cards, but de Ramon has formed genuine bonds with the star’s entire family.

‘Ines and Brad’s family keep in touch regularly and genuinely enjoy spending time with her. It never feels like she’s “Brad’s girlfriend.” She’s just part of the family when they’re together.’

Pitt and Jolie finalized their divorce in December 2024 – 10 years after tying the knot in September 2014.

He was also previously married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston from 2000 until 2005.

De Ramon had quietly tied the knot with Vampire Diaries actor Paul Wesley in 2019 but they ultimately split in 2022.

This comes weeks after it was revealed that Pitt’s children with ex-wife Jolie have taken steps to distance themselves from the F1 star as five of six of them have dropped his surname.

Pitt and Jolie adopted Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, and Zahara, 21, and are also the parents of three biological children, Shiloh, 20, and 17-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

China’s Missile Test Sparks Concerns Over Emerging Global Security Threats, Analysts Warn

0

China’s recent launch of a nuclear-capable ballistic missile into the South Pacific on Monday, marking its third such exercise in the area in more than 40 years, has raised significant concerns in Canberra.

However, defense experts suggest that this test is more indicative of Beijing’s expansive military ambitions near Australia’s borders rather than an act of specific provocation.

China confirmed the successful missile launch, which was executed from a strategic nuclear submarine, and the missile landed in international waters near the exclusive economic zones of Kiribati and Tuvalu. This event unfolded just hours after Australia and Fiji established a significant defense agreement, pledging mutual assistance in case of an attack.

The Chinese navy issued a statement describing the missile as a “strategic missile carrying a training simulation warhead,” with state media outlet Xinhua labelling the test a “routine arrangement” that was not aimed at any nation and announced beforehand.

Nonetheless, analysts are increasingly cautioning that the region, including Australia, might not be adequately equipped to handle such advanced military technology if the need arises.

China’s missile launch criticised

Defence Minister Richard Marles, who is also the deputy prime minister, told ABC News on Tuesday: “This is China demonstrating a much greater range in terms of being able to deploy a nuclear weapon,” adding Australia had raised its concern with China “directly”.

“There really isn’t an explanation as to why they are building the capabilities that they are and that is fundamentally destabilising.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese later said it was a “provocative act” and Australia “[didn’t] want to see any action that is destabilising or which undermines the peace, security of the Pacific and region.”

Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy confirmed the Chinese government had been planning the long-range test for “some time” but only informed Australia in the hours beforehand.

“We’ve been very clear that we’re seeing the biggest military build-up in our region since World War Two, and it’s not being accompanied by sufficient transparency,” he told ABC’s RN Breakfast on Tuesday.

Conroy said he believed the launch was “more likely to be a coincidence rather than linked” to the Fiji agreement, though he added that was “obviously” a question for the Chinese government.

A man with glasses and a red tie stands at a podium speaking into a microphone.

Jennifer Parker, an adjunct professor at the University of Western Australia’s Defence and Security Institute and a former naval officer, cautioned against reading too much into the launch itself.

“I think we should be worried, more broadly, about China’s military capability, and their aggressive employment of that capability in the region,” she said, adding that missile tests are not in themselves unusual.

But Michael Shoebridge, director of Strategic Analysis Australia, viewed the move as more pointed. He noted the significance of its destination: the South Pacific is covered by the 1985 Treaty of Rarotonga, which establishes the region as a nuclear-weapons-free zone and whose signatories include Australia and much of the Pacific.

China has ratified two of the treaty’s protocols, including a commitment not to test nuclear explosive devices within the zone.

“It’s a statement by Beijing that it doesn’t care about any of that and it’s pushing into our neighbourhood,” Shoebridge said.

Taiwan’s national security council chief, Joseph Wu, said in a post on X that the launch was “a provocation that destabilises the Indo-Pacific and that China had proved itself to be “a bully on the block”.

Questions of timing

The launch, hours after Australia and Fiji signed a pact committing each to the other’s defence, prompted immediate speculation it had been timed as retaliation.

The Chinese military’s elite Rocket Force previously fired a dummy warhead near French Polynesia in September 2024 — its first long-range launch over international waters since 1980. This latest test again pushed a nuclear-capable weapon deep into the South Pacific, seemingly timed against Australia’s latest Pacific deal.

Parker said she considered a direct link unlikely, citing the logistics involved.

“To undertake a test like this, you want to have your tracking ships, your missile tracking ships in the right places, which takes time to get them there,” she said, adding that submarines “don’t normally go to sea with ballistic missiles with dummy warheads”.

She argued the timing may even have worked against Beijing’s interests. “We tend to find that when China makes these aggressive moves … there tends to be a lot of pushback internationally,” she said.

“Intentionally timing it around the time that Australia is launching a defence treaty called the Ocean of Peace is actually probably fairly counterproductive for China.”

Shoebridge read the sequence differently, placing weight on the decision to launch rather than the preparation behind it.

“They were setting this test up long before the Australia-Fiji Treaty was signed, but the Chinese chose now to push the button, and they made an active choice to launch this missile right as the Australia-Fiji agreement was signed,” he said.

He believed the test was retaliatory “in part”, but also part of a broader trajectory. It followed live fire drills a Chinese naval task force conducted in the Tasman Sea in February 2025, which forced commercial flights between Australia and New Zealand to divert at short notice.

“It’s a statement from China they’re going to play a bigger security role in our near neighbourhood,” he said.

The message to Canberra, as he characterised it: “Australia, you can sign all the pieces of paper with anyone you like. We have raw military power.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shakes hands with Jotham Napat, Prime Minister of Vanuatu, surrounded by officials and the flags of both nations in a wood-paneled room.

Both analysts agreed Beijing was uneasy about Australia’s deepening ties in the region.

That unease surfaced overnight, when China’s embassy in Vanuatu issued a statement responding to the Nakamal Treaty signed between Australia and Vanuatu late last month. It declared that “any agreement that is exclusive or directed against China is firmly opposed by the China side” and warned against any attempt to treat Pacific Island countries as a “backyard”.

Parker said China’s interest in the region was fundamentally strategic.

“If you control the Pacific, you control the key sea lines of communication between Australia and the US and in the event of a crisis or conflict, those sea lines of communication would be critical,” she said.

A security foothold beyond the first island chain, she added, was “a critical strategic move” for Beijing.

Preparedness and the gaps at home

Both analysts questioned Conroy’s World War Two framing when applied to the launch itself, while accepting the deeper concern it gestured toward.

China’s growing capability, reach and willingness to use it aggressively, Parker said, “is [rather] the biggest change to our strategic circumstances since World War Two”. In some respects, she added, it’s “more dramatic than what we experienced in 1941 and 1942”, when Japan’s advance through South-East Asia brought the threat to Australia’s north.

China’s industrial capacity relative to the United States, she noted, far outstrips Japan’s at that time, a gap that would matter in any protracted conflict.

Shoebridge called the minister’s characterisation “a bit of hyperbole”, but said the test exposed “a glaring problem” for a government that had been “celebrating the stabilisation of the Australia-China relationship” — something pursued since 2022 that has seen Beijing lift trade barriers even as strategic frictions persist.

“Australia’s military is incapable of protecting even itself from these Chinese systems,” he said.

“We’ve got some glaring missile defence gaps that need to be closed.”

Australia currently has no integrated air and missile defence system capable of intercepting a ballistic missile of the kind China tested, a gap successive governments have acknowledged.

Parker said the country needed to “bolster our defence capability spending” and address shortfalls across air and missile defence.

High headline spending was misleading, she said: while defence outlays sit at record levels in dollar terms, “as a percentage of the economy that we dedicate towards defence, we are nowhere near historic levels”.

Australia spends around 2 per cent of GDP on defence — well below Cold War-era peaks — though, under the National Defence Strategy released in April, the government has committed to reaching 3 per cent by 2033, still short of the 3.5 per cent the US has urged of Australia.

She credited the government’s diplomatic work in the region, describing the recent Pacific agreements as having “some success”. The expansion of the surface combatant fleet — set to roughly double the navy’s major warships under a 2024 plan — reflected “really historic” decisions, she said.

Shoebridge urged caution on that front. “We’ve just got to be careful with these regional security deals like the one with Fiji, that Australia isn’t writing cheques we can’t cash,” he said.

“We need to close some of those missile defence gaps to be credible with our regional partners.”

Victoria Lee Robinson Accuses Ex Tom Sandoval of Abuse and Files for Restraining Order Against Vanderpump Rules Alum

Sandoval initially escalated the situation to the legal arena by filing for a temporary restraining order against Robinson and her father, J. Will Robinson. This move appears to be a response to ongoing personal issues between the ex-couple, although the specifics remain under wraps.

In a surprising twist, Victoria has taken legal action of her own. She has sought a restraining order against Sandoval, claiming that she has been the victim of abuse. This counteraction underscores the complexity and intensity of their relationship troubles.

As these legal battles unfold, they add another chapter to a storyline already marked by drama and tension, capturing the attention of fans and the media alike. The outcome remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the saga between Tom Sandoval and Victoria Lee Robinson is far from over.

Us Weekly obtained court documents from July 2 in which Victoria sought a domestic violence restraining order against Tom.

In the filing, Victoria accused Tom of “routinely physically and verbally” abusing her during their relationship. The couple had been together since 2024.

After an alleged “verbal disagreement,” Victoria alleged Tom shoved her “down a flight of stairs.”

She noted she was following him up the stairway to the second floor of their home when he “turned and shoved” her, resulting in “visible injuries” to her knees, including bruising.

Due to the ordeal, she called 911.

After learning Tom would be “arrested and criminally charged,” Victoria withdrew her statement, which she now claims she regrets doing.

Approximately one year later, Victoria stated she tried ending her relationship, but Tom allegedly “promised to change for the better” and “begged” her “not to leave.”

Victoria shared that another alleged domestic dispute occurred after she almost ended their relationship, alleging Tom pushed her to the ground in a Nashville hotel.

She alleged that she and Tom were involved in a “verbal disagreement” where she alleged he “repeatedly” called her a “coward.”

Victoria claimed Tom left to have a cigarette, and, upon returning, she stated their argument “escalated and accused him of being physical.”

Specifically, she alleged he pushed her to ““the floor of the hotel hallway” and locked her out of their room.

She shared she gave him time to cool off but then alleged she found out he had thrown her belongings into a room where her father was staying.

After returning home from Nashville, Victoria stated she got into another verbal spat with Tom where she alleged he ransacked her purse and allegedly elbowed her “hard in the chest” when she tried to get her belongings back.

Aside from the restraining order for herself, Victoria also asked that it protect her father after an altercation in June where Tom allegedly pushed him into a fire pit.

Due to everything, Victoria claimed she is “fearful” for her and her father’s well-being.

On July 6, the court denied the restraining order ahead of the exes being due in court for a hearing on July 16.

They noted there is a temporary restraining order already in place against Victoria and Will from Tom.

International Fugitive Wanted for Monaco Bombing Found Dead in Ukraine

A fugitive linked to the Monaco bombing that injured a sanctioned Ukrainian oligarch and his companion has been discovered dead from gunshot wounds in Ukraine, media reports indicate.

The body of Anastasiia Berezovska was located near Kyiv late Monday evening around 11 p.m., as confirmed by sources speaking to the Ukrainian news outlet Pravda. Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Local reports reveal that those detained include a current officer from the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and a former law enforcement official.

Berezovska, aged 39, was accused of orchestrating an explosion that targeted Vadym Yermolaiev, a 58-year-old Ukrainian businessman, with a homemade bomb at the entrance of a building in Monaco the previous Monday.

Authorities identified her as a suspect last Friday, issuing an Interpol “red notice” for her arrest on charges including attempted murder, setting an explosive in a public area with criminal intent, and engaging in criminal conspiracy.

Cops initially believed a man, who was seen wearing a bucket hat, had carried out the attack.

“This person is likely to disguise themselves in such a way as to appear as a man,” according to a police memo seen by BFM.

But she planted an explosive-packed backpack outside Yermolaiev’s apartment and detonating it with a remote control.

Berezovska used a car she had rented in Germany to flee the area. She fled to the French-Italian border before making her way to Switzerland, according to the Italian news agency ANSA, before returning to Germany.

Yermolaiev was injured along was the woman he was with – Anna Nasobina — who lost her legs in the attack. Nasobina, 46, was with her 13-year-old son when the bomb detonated.

Yermolaiev is a multi-millionaire living in Monaco who had sanctions slapped on him by Kyiv beginning in December 2023 — reportedly stemming from his alcohol business activity in Russian-occupied Crimea, France24 reported.

He was among the wealthiest tycoons in Ukraine who led in the fields of commercial real estate, manufacturing and agriculture.

He told Forbes Ukraine that he renounced his Ukrainian citizenship and became a citizen of Cyprus in 2017.

Yermolaiev’s eldest son, Artur, was arrested in Cyprus last year and accused of organizing large-scale fraudulent call centers targeting Europeans, according to the Pravda newspaper.
