1. Friday night was riddled with injuries for the Jets, but the spotlight falls on edge rusher Joseph Ossai, who suffered a significant foot injury. Ossai’s role was pegged as crucial for the upcoming season.

Jackie Glass, the distinguished TV show judge known for sentencing O.J. Simpson to prison, has passed away at the age of 70.

Jackie Glass, a former judge of Clark County who won recognition after she succeeded Nancy Grace as the host on the television series Swift Justice, died on Friday afternoon in Las Vegas, reports TMZ. 

In 2008, Glass made headlines when she handed down a sentence of up to 33 years to Simpson, following his conviction for armed robbery and kidnapping. 

She gained further acclaim by stepping into the shoes of Nancy Grace, anchoring the TV court show’s final season from 2011 to 2012.

Glass’s tenure on the television bench was underpinned by eight years of judicial service on Nevada’s Eighth Judicial District Court, which she served from 2003 until her retirement.

Glass is survived by her husband, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson, and her daughters, municipal court judge Rebecca Wolfson and stuntwoman Rachel Wolfson. 

‘Rip my rock, I don’t know how I’ll do this life without you,’ Rachel posted on social media Friday night. ‘I love you so much mommy, I’ll see you again someday.’ 

Glass had most recently worked as a mediator for Advanced Resolution Management, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. 

Glass’s cause of death has not been revealed. 

Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley wrote on X that she was ‘heartbroken’ at what happened, writing that she felt like she had ‘lost a sister.’

‘We both started practicing law close to the same time and over the last 50 years I have been amazed to see everything she accomplished,’ Berkley said. 

Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto said she was ‘shocked and saddened’ by the news. 

‘Judge Glass was an inspiring role model who spent her life fighting for justice for others,’ Cortez Masto posted on X. ‘Her light extinguished too soon.’ 

Former Clark County District Attorney David Roger said he and his family were ‘very sad’ about Glass’s death.

‘She was a respected jurist,’ Roger told News3. ‘But more importantly, she was a warm and friendly person.’

Glass had worked as a journalist and radio reporter in Las Vegas during the early 1980s before embarking on her legal career.

She was remembered by former colleague Steve Herman as ’empathetic and funny.’ 

Glass’s law career started after she graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1984. 

She worked as an associate and as an attorney from various firms from 1985 to 1990 until founding the firm Wolfson & Glass with her husband.

Her focus for the firm was personal injury and criminal defense until 2002, when she was elected to the Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court.

One year later, Glass helped create the Clark County Mental Health Court to try to improve the criminal justice system’s dealings with mental illness.

In 2008, Glass received her highest profile case when she presided over Simpson’s proceedings for charges over a 2007 confrontation in a Vegas hotel room. 

She memorably pushed back on an apology offered by Simpson during his sentencing hearing. 

‘Earlier in this case, at a bail hearing, I asked – said – to Mr. Simpson I didn’t know if he was arrogant or ignorant or both,’ Glass told him, per the San Diego Union Tribune. ‘And during the trial and through this proceeding, I got this answer, and it was both.’ 

Glass retired from her Clark County judge role in May 2011 ahead of her new role as Swift Justice host. 

She had overseen her district’s drug and alcohol treatment courts during her last year on the bench.

‘I really do care whether you succeed or not,’ Glass told participants in her drug court ahead of her departure, per the Las Vegas Sun. ‘All I want you to do is get clean and sober and stay out of the criminal justice system.’ 

Grace left the show because production was moving from Atlanta to Los Angeles, which would take her away from her young kids. 

Glass hosted the show’s second and final season before it was pulled off the air in April 2012. 

She then became a private judge with Vegas-based mediation service Private Trials before moving to her final role with Advanced Resolution Management.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Glass’s family for comment. 

In an unexpected twist of fate, a man wanted in California, who had twice eluded capture by dashing onto a freeway, inadvertently found himself running out of good fortune. His luck ran dry when he wandered into a Panda Express, only to spot the very officers he had previously outmaneuvered enjoying their lunch, police reported.

Two thrilling attempts to escape. Twice he darted onto the freeway and evaded law enforcement. But the third encounter took a surprising turn.

It was officers from the Monrovia Police Department who recognized the suspect as soon as he entered the restaurant. Seizing the moment, they promptly arrested him, thus concluding a month-long pursuit to serve a no-bail felony probation warrant.

The body camera footage vividly reveals the moment two officers, who were quietly eating, suddenly leaped into action. They swiftly apprehended the unidentified man, bringing him to the ground, amid surprised diners in the bustling restaurant.

Police said the man was wanted on a no-bail warrant for a probation violation.

The encounter unfolded July 17, but police released video of the arrest Thursday.

In the video, the suspect asks the officers, “What did I do?”

One officer responds, “You’ve been wanted. You’ve been running from me for like a month.”

Police said officers had previously attempted to arrest the man on two separate occasions while he was out walking. Both times, he allegedly ran onto the freeway and managed to evade them.

The breakthrough came as officers were taking a lunch break at Panda Express when the wanted man “walked right up to them,” police said.

“At this point, we’re not sure if it was good police work, bad timing, or the irresistible smell of chow mein,” the department joked. “Either way, an arrest was made.”

The officers apparently didn’t let the arrest keep them from finishing lunch.

“And don’t worry the officers went back for their food and finished their chow mein,” the department said. “Priorities.”

The Monrovia Police Department told News Media its social media post and accompanying footage constitute its public statement on the incident and that no additional information would be provided at this time.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has called for an independent investigation into two fatal encounters involving the LAPD, which were captured on video. Both incidents reportedly began with the men involved engaging in what police deemed dangerous and violent behavior, leading to officer intervention.

In a statement made Friday, Bass described the footage as “incredibly difficult to watch” and announced her plans to issue an executive directive. This initiative will focus on reviewing instances of officer-involved deaths and serious injuries, particularly those concerning individuals undergoing mental health crises.

Bass also highlighted the ongoing role of police in responding to situations involving violent behavior during mental health emergencies.

“The reality is, until society provides the proper care for individuals with mental health disorders, law enforcement will continue to be called upon to respond, especially when those individuals exhibit violent behavior,” Bass remarked.

One of the cases involved Jose Carlos Hoyos-Munoz, aged 59, who was taken into custody on July 13. He allegedly assaulted his mother and brother with a deadly weapon and then barricaded himself inside a home in Chatsworth, as reported by the LAPD.

The eight-hour standoff ended with police taking Hoyos-Munoz into custody. He was initially taken to a hospital to be “treated for exposure to gas utilized by SWAT personnel” before being released and booked into Van Nuys Regional Jail.

Two days later, jail staff removed him from his cell, where police said a “non-categorial use of force” occurred as officers placed him in a “five-point restraint chair” to take his fingerprints.

Hoyos-Munoz was later moved to a single-person cell and kept handcuffed briefly.

When officers returned, another “non-categorial use of force” occurred, police said. Officers placed Hoyos-Munoz face down on his bunk and removed his cuffs.

About 20 minutes later, officers found him unconscious and not breathing.

“Despite medical intervention, Hoyos-Munoz failed to respond to treatment and was pronounced deceased,” the LAPD said.

Three detention officers were also injured during altercations with Hoyos-Munoz. They were treated for contusions and minor lacerations.

The second fatal encounter involved Alejandro Lopez Garcia, who police said was armed with a baseball bat in South Los Angeles on July 29.

Garcia was allegedly swinging the bat at people and occupied cars beneath the 10 Freeway near Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard in West Adams.

When officers arrived shortly before 6:30 p.m., police said Garcia was still wielding the bat, including at officers and bystanders.

Officers opened fire, killing Garcia.

Bass said both men appeared to be experiencing mental health crises and blamed decades of disinvestment in community-based mental and behavioral health services for leaving too many Angelenos without timely care.

She said LAPD officers “do not enter the force to become first responders to mental health crises” and are not equipped with the proper training to do so.

Bass’s planned independent review will examine LAPD policies, training, tactics, supervision and accountability.

It will also consider mental health support for officers following critical incidents.

She also called for expanded civilian crisis-response and co-response programs for people in crisis who have not exhibited violent behavior, potentially reducing the need for armed officers.

Donald Trump lashed out at a New York Times journalist who alleged he would skip the 25th anniversary of September 11 at Ground Zero in Manhattan. The claim suggested his absence was due to not being invited to deliver a speech.

The former president took to his platform, Truth Social, on Friday, fiercely criticizing Maggie Haberman’s report as ‘phony.’

Using fiery language, Trump wrote, ‘Maggot Hagerman, the Fake Reporter from The Failing New York Times, an unattractive person both inside and out, and who knows less about me than most reporters on the beat (She’s a SCAMMER!), made up a story that on September 11th, I’m not going to the World Trade Center, in New York City, because they won’t let me make a speech, and I’m going to the Pentagon in D.C., because I’m a featured speaker.’

He insisted that, ‘This is more Corrupt News, I’ve been to New York many times over the years, and no one ever speaks, it’s a “solemn ceremony!”‘

Trump further remarked that he ‘would love not to speak, because I’m speaking all the time, and this is a day to remember the victims, and their beautiful family members.’

Haberman reported on Thursday that Trump’s team had scoped out the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, before being discouraged over the museum’s commitment to nonpartisanship.

But the president flatly denied her claims and renewed his threats of legal action against her employers, warning ‘all will be revealed in the lawsuit against them.’

His post came hours after a US military judge ruled Friday that confessions made by alleged 9/11 attacks mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to FBI agents are inadmissible and cannot be used against him at trial. 

Haberman has yet to publicly comment on Trump’s post but a spokesperson for the Times defended their reporting later Friday. 

‘The Times’s reporting is based on information from multiple people with knowledge of the discussions and planning around New York’s September 11 ceremony,’ Charlie Stadtlander told The Daily Mail. 

‘Our journalists sought comment from the White House communications team, who provided a statement that didn’t contradict what we had learned. The president chose to attack the story 24 hours later, singling out one of the four reporters who wrote it. We are confident in the accuracy of the reporting.’

In a statement to the Times, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly emphasized a remembrance of the victims but made no reference to the President’s specific plans. 

The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House for further comment. 

On Friday, Trump confirmed he will mark September 11 at the Pentagon. 

Vice President JD Vance will represent the Trump administration at the New York ceremony instead, while ex-Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and George W Bush are expected to attend. 

It comes as the trial for alleged 9/11 plotter Mohammed and three other accused plotters was thrown into jeopardy by the judge’s ruling Friday.

Mohammed, also known as ‘KSM,’ was considered one of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s top lieutenants before he was captured in March 2003 in Pakistan.

Prosecutors have already excluded statements that Mohammed made after his capture when he was held by the CIA in overseas prisons and subjected to brutal treatment including waterboarding before his transfer in 2006 to Guantanamo, the Times reported.

But trial judge Lieutenant Colonel Michael Schrama has now concluded that Mohammed’s subsequent interrogations in 2007 at Guantanamo were also inadmissible.

‘The prosecution has failed to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that Mr. Mohammad´s statements to the FBI were voluntarily given,’ Schrama wrote in his ruling, which was not immediately released to the public. The Times said its unclassified contents were confirmed by several lawyers who had seen it.

A spokesman for the US military court did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment.

Schrama cited an ‘unbroken continuation of the CIA’s psychological conditioning and severe coercion,’ and also found that FBI agents intentionally failed to tell Mohammed that he had a right to be silent and to consult a lawyer. Prosecutors can appeal the ruling.

Mohammed’s June 2028 trial has been repeatedly delayed and a plea deal that would have seen the death penalty taken off the table was withdrawn last year following protests from the relatives of some victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Much of the legal jousting in the 9/11 defendants’ cases has focused on whether they could be tried fairly after having undergone torture at the hands of the CIA.

Meanwhile Trump will attend the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Texas two days before September 11.

As he did last year, the president will give a speech at the Pentagon’s ceremonies, where politicians remain welcome to give an address.

He will then leave the country for Ireland to visit his golf course where the Irish Open is being held.

The President also commemorated September 11 at the Pentagon last year, in a ceremony that was moved into the internal courtyard after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Trump pledged to always honor those who died on that day. 

‘We will defend the nation they served, the values they upheld and the freedom for which they died,’ he said. 

‘We will support our troops, we will protect our families, and we will preserve the American way of life for every future generation.

‘We will build taller, grow stronger, fight harder and soar higher, and together we will go forward as one people with one heart, one faith, one flag and one glorious destiny under almighty God,’ he added.

Trump did go to New York afterward, as he attended a Major League Baseball game between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium. 

The last time Trump attended the Ground Zero ceremony was in 2024, when he was in the same company as Kamala Harris, as the two shared an awkward handshake. 

Trump and Harris appeared cordial as they met for a second time in 24 hours following their first debate.

Harris stood alongside President Joe Biden during the ceremony while Republican-turned-Democratic former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg acted as a buffer separating the current administration from Trump and his running mate Vance. Trump allegedly complimented Harris’s debate performance.
