Prime Video Expands with ‘Off Campus’: Key Highlights from Obsessed Fest

Prime Video took a bold step into uncharted territory with its inaugural Obsessed Fest over the weekend. This showcase was a platform for unveiling thrilling current and future projects like Off Campus Season 2, The Love Hypothesis, and Every Year After. Within a single day, stars from beloved TV shows and films graced the stage to discuss the influence of fandom and preview their exciting lineup for the coming months.

Fans eagerly anticipated the announcement of a release date for Off Campus Season 2, featuring Allie (Mika Abdalla) and Dean (Stephen Kalyn), which is presently being filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. However, the eagerly awaited announcement did not materialize. Although Abdalla, Kalyn, and the rest of the cast were present, along with a surprise appearance by J-Lo, the details regarding Season 2 were kept under wraps.

Despite this, Prime Video did not disappoint, revealing a whirlwind of updates and releases. The event featured the premiere trailer for The Love Hypothesis, starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, and confirmed a second season for Every Year After. Additionally, fans of Overcompensating were thrilled to learn about Zedd’s upcoming role at Yates University in the show’s second season. All in all, the day was brimming with exciting highlights.

Here are the key highlights from the very first Obsessed Fest in Los Angeles…

  1. Prime Video Has Finally Found Its Niche and It’s YA Adaptations

    Every Year After

If there’s one definitive insight gained from Obsessed Fest, it’s that Prime Video has mastered the art of catering to their audience’s desires: adaptations of beloved books. Rapidly becoming a leading hub for BookTok adaptations, Prime Video has positioned itself as the go-to destination for authors to transform their popular young adult or enticing teen/adult novels into television series or films. With productions like Off Campus, Every Year After, Maxton Hall Season 3, and 56 Days debuting this year, it’s clear that Prime Video is tapped into their audience’s pulse. And with upcoming releases like Elle, We Were Liars Season 2, and many others, there’s plenty more in store.

  2. Prime Video Is Going Global

A man piggybacking a woman, both wearing sunglasses and smiling.

    Sophie Williams

With the arrival of Your Fault: London and the upcoming Maxton Hall Season 3, it’s been clear for quite some time that Prime Video wants to whisk fans away on international trips and globetrot through storytelling. We can also point to The Summer I Turned Pretty series finale, which took Belly (Lola Tung) and Conrad (Christopher Briney) to Paris, France, although that was more of a one-off… but still! Even more important in this conversation is the inclusion of projects like Drawn Together and The Last Sunrise, which branch out into foreign language and overseas adventures.

Prime Video has long been looking for a way to bring international audiences into the fold and to expand interest in shows and movies set in different countries — even desperately attempting to launch Citadel into spinoffs set across the world — but it feels like this could be the first sign that they now know how they want to do it. Get the teens and tweens involved and you’ve got a winner.

  3. Off Campus Is King (And Queen)

Tucker, Garrett, Hannah, Dean, and Logan around the kitchen island in 'Off Campus'

    Photo: Prime Video

In the same way that HBO and HBO Max have gone all in on Game of Thrones and its subsequent spinoffs, Prime Video is putting all of its eggs in the Off Campus basket. The series scored 36 million views in the first 12 days of streaming, according to the streamer, and the number just keeps growing. In fact, nearly two months after the show dropped all eight episodes of the adaptation of The Deal, the series is still sitting in the No. 2 spot on the Prime Video charts.

Throughout Obsessed Fest, Prime Video positioned the series as the most anticipated panel of the day, closing out the festivities with a Q&A featuring the cast and showrunner, Louisa Levy. While that certainly would have been enough for the eager fans who flew in from around the world and packed the room like sardines, Prime doubled down on their commitment to the show as their top priority by bringing out Jennifer Lopez to open the presentation. Yes, that’s right, J-Lo came out to sing “On The Floor,” the song used in the Halloween episode of Off Campus. That is how much of a phenomenon the series is.

Given the show’s massive popularity in its first seasons alone, it should come as a surprise how much stock Prime Video is putting into the series. Much like The Summer I Turned Pretty, fans should expect to see crossover opportunities and merchandising with major brands, especially as we get closer to the holiday season and Season 2. Get ready to see a lot more of the Off Campus crew moving forward.

  4. Much to Look Four-ward To

    Photo: Prime Video

Two projects that were not discussed much but have all the buzz behind them? The Summer I Turned Pretty The Movie and Prime’s upcoming Fourth Wing adaptation, which have both been announced but have been mostly hush-hush since then. We know for a fact that the former of the two is already filming, while the latter has yet to make any major casting decisions, as producer Michael B. Jordan has stated they are focused on getting it right.

Mentions of either project were few and far between at Obsessed Fest, but they were certainly top of mind for fans in attendance. The short and sweet here is that both Fourth Wing and The Summer I Turned Pretty The Movie, even without being mentioned outright by organizers, are high priority with ubiquitous presences. I.E., you don’t need to mention these movies for Prime Video fans to be amped up for them.

Off Campus, Every Year After, The Summer I Turned Pretty, 56 Days, Maxton Hall, and Your Fault: London are all streaming now on Prime Video. The Love Hypothesis premieres on September 23.

If you aren’t a Prime Video subscriber yet, you can get started with a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial, including Prime perks like the Prime Video streaming service, free two-day shipping, exclusive deals, and more. After the free trial, Amazon Prime costs $14.99/month or $139/year.

  5. Australia Secures Pivotal Security Agreement with Vanuatu: Key Details Unveiled

    0

Following extensive talks, Australia and Vanuatu have finalized a $500 million security accord, though the agreement has been described as less robust than anticipated.

Known as the Nakamal Agreement, this pact was officially signed by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Vanuatu counterpart, Prime Minister Jotham Napat, during a ceremony held in Canberra on Monday.

The signing marks nearly a year since Prime Minister Napat withdrew from an earlier ceremony, citing fears that the deal might threaten Vanuatu’s sovereignty.

Prime Minister Albanese emphasized that the new agreement “reflects and confirms” Australia’s position as Vanuatu’s “largest and most comprehensive partner in economic security and development—a role we embrace with great responsibility.”

He further noted, “This accord promotes a shared understanding that security is a collective responsibility within the Pacific family, and it underscores Vanuatu’s sovereign choice to prohibit any foreign military bases or infrastructure on its land.”

Napat said it was a “significant step” in the nation’s relationship.

“With the signing of the long-awaited Nakamal Agreement, Australia and Vanuatu are close neighbours, trusted partners,” he said.

    What’s the agreement?

The Nakamal Agreement cements Australia as the Pacific island nation’s primary aid and policing partner.

It’s a bid to steer the nation away from China, which is currently pursuing a deal with Vanuatu, known as the Namele Agreement.

It’s a refurbished version of the 2025 agreement, which gave Australia the power to veto Chinese involvement in Vanuatu’s critical infrastructure, including ports, telecommunications, digital, aviation, and energy.

That agreement, which was set to be finalised in September 2025, was abandoned by Vanuatu after members of the government raised concerns for the nation’s sovereignty.

Albanese was already in Vanuatu to sign the agreement when it was cancelled.

Australia originally pledged $500 million across ten years to support Vanuatu’s government. Now, that money will be spread across a longer, unspecified period.

The agreement requires the Nakamal committee to convene at least every six months to address and resolve any issues or disputes between the two nations.

    What are the terms?

The agreement requires Vanuatu to consult Australia on “proposed third-party engagement in Vanuatu’s critical infrastructure”.

Any critical infrastructure must also remain free from “militarisation, any form of foreign interference or unauthorised access”.

It also requires Vanuatu to prioritise the Pacific Forum, an alliance of 18 Pacific nations, for policing requests.

In the event of a humanitarian disaster, Vanuatu will first request foreign aid from FRANZ — a humanitarian coalition comprising France, Australia and New Zealand.

Australia and Vanuatu will collaborate on cyber infrastructure and renewable energy transition and Australia will support shortfalls in Vanuatu’s workforce.

Albanese is expected to travel to Fiji and the Solomon Islands within weeks to progress negotiations on a treaty with Honiara and ink a deal with Suva.

Tragic Scooter Accident Claims Life of 13-Year-Old Boy in Avoiding Open Car Door Incident

    0

In a tragic incident on Monday afternoon in Queens, a 13-year-old boy lost his life while riding on the back of a motorized scooter. The fatal accident occurred when the boy’s teenage friend, who was navigating the scooter, veered to avoid hitting an open car door and ended up crashing into a truck, according to police reports.

Authorities stated that the scooter, operated by another 13-year-old, was traveling southbound on 162nd Street near 45th Avenue in Flushing at approximately 12:40 p.m. The accident transpired as a driver exited a parked car, leaving the door ajar.

Faced with the sudden obstacle of an open car door, the young scooter driver attempted to steer clear. However, this quick maneuver led to a collision with a truck moving in the same direction, police reported.

The passenger was thrown from the scooter and tragically ended up making contact with the truck’s rear wheels, according to police statements.

Emergency services transported both boys to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Sadly, the passenger did not survive his injuries, while the driver’s condition was reported as stable, authorities confirmed.

The truck driver stayed at the scene, authorities said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, according to police.

New Jersey School Withdraws Yearbook Over Controversial Inclusion of Hitler Photo

    0

In an unrelated incident in New Jersey, a middle school has recalled its yearbooks after administrators discovered that a photograph of Adolf Hitler was included in the baby pictures section.

“Earlier today, after distributing the yearbooks to students, we discovered that the baby pictures section included an image later identified as an infant photo of Adolf Hitler,” explained East Brook Middle School Principal Ryan Aupperlee in a June 25 letter to parents. This report, available on NorthJersey.com, details the swift action taken to reclaim the yearbooks and prevent further distribution of the image.

East Brook Middle School is located in Paramus, a township in Bergen County, northern New Jersey.

Paramus Mayor Chris DiPiazza addressed the yearbook incident, stating in a Facebook post on Friday, “I am aware of the unfortunate incident at East Brook Middle School yesterday and have been in communication with both the Superintendent of Schools and the Chief of Police. Our borough prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming to all faiths, with many places of worship. Incidents like yesterday’s do not reflect the values of Paramus. God bless.”

The incident prompted an investigation in Paramus. It was not immediately clear how the image was submitted, who was responsible for including it, or how it made it through the yearbook review process before the final copies were distributed.

The district is expected to determine next steps after reviewing how the photo appeared in the student publication. Law enforcement is investigating, too, according to the report.

The Adolf Hitler baby photo from 1889 has been viewed as a symbol of hate and antisemitism for decades. (Hulton Archive)

“I want to be direct with you: the presence of this image is unacceptable,” Aupperlee’s said in his letter to parents. “Even if the image was not immediately recognizable to those paging through the book, its inclusion in an official school publication is a severe breach of our values. Adolf Hitler represents hatred, antisemitism, and the horrors of the Holocaust, including the murder of six million Jews. An image of him has no place in a yearbook created for our students. It does not reflect who we are or what East Brook stands for, and we condemn its inclusion without reservation.”

The returned yearbooks had already been signed by students and school staff, so those recalls will require some consideration on how the personal messages are kept.

“Thank you for your patience, understanding, and trust as we work to make this right,” Aupperlee’s letter concluded. “We remain committed to ensuring that our school reflects the values of respect, inclusion, and dignity for every member of our community.”

Stay Safe: Essential Tips for Home and Personal Safety in Rising Temperatures

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — With the summer heat intensifying, authorities are advising residents to prioritize both personal health and home safety to avert any potential summer crises.

Dr. James Gill, an emergency physician at St. Joseph’s/Candler, highlighted the importance of distinguishing between heat exhaustion and heat stroke to effectively respond to such heat-related conditions.

According to Dr. Gill, symptoms like feeling dizzy, overly tired, and experiencing nausea are indicative of heat exhaustion, which results from losing too much water.

People may experience heat exhaustion differently, influenced by factors such as medication usage, age, and their overall medical history.

Dr. Gill noted, “Those without medical issues or not taking medications generally have more resilience compared to older individuals or those with conditions like COPD, diabetes, or heart disease.”

Heat stroke, on the other hand, can cause one to become confused, have the inability to stand and even vomit because your body cannot cool itself down.

Dr. Gill said that when the heat causes extreme dehydration, it can cause rhabdomyolysis or tissue breakdown, causing the muscles to cramp and contract.

“It can become a problem in the sense of damaging the kidneys if it gets extreme,” said Dr. Gill.

While protecting your body is important, officials said protecting your home from the risk of a fire should also be on your radar.

Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD) Safety and Training Division Chief Joshua Anderson said intense heat causes moisture to evaporate more quickly, creating drier conditions and increasing the risk for fire when heat sources are involved.

He warns residents to be mindful of potential hazards that they may not expect to catch on fire. According to a CCFD spokesperson, the items below are susceptible to combustion, depending on storage and heat exposure:

    • lithium-ion batteries

  6. disposable batteries
  7. aerosol cans
  8. gas and fuel containers
  9. propane cylinders
  10. “I don’t want anyone to think that they can’t grill or anything like that, just be safe around it,” said Anderson. “Make sure that you’re not too close to the house when you’re grilling. Make sure that you do have water sources available in case something does happen.”

Police Report: Man Fatally Assaults 76-Year-Old Woman in Hotel Room

Authorities in Florida have detained a man following the shocking discovery of an elderly woman’s body in a hotel room.

Paul Stottler, aged 39, is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail after facing charges of second-degree murder on Friday. The incident unfolded after police were called to the Holiday Inn Express in St. Petersburg, Florida, on June 25. Hotel staff discovered the lifeless body of 76-year-old Emma Jean Mullins in a guest room. Her remains were concealed under a mattress, wrapped in sheets and clothing.

Surveillance footage from the hotel revealed that Mullins entered the establishment with Stottler around 10:45 p.m. on the night before her body was found. Stottler was later observed leaving the property alone at approximately 4:30 a.m.

In a press release, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said evidence inside the hotel room where Mullins was found indicated that a struggle took place. Police said the furniture in the room was overturned and there were bloodstains and broken glass in various locations.

According to the complaint, Mullins suffered “blunt force trauma to her face and body.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that when Stottler left the hotel alone, he did not leave empty-handed. According to the press release, Stottler was seen on surveillance cameras carrying several bags out of the hotel and then throwing them in a dumpster in the parking lot. Police searched the dumpster and found “three documents with Mullins’ name concealed in an ice bucket” along with men’s clothing and bloodied bedding.

After police arrested Stottler, he reportedly admitted to dumping evidence when he left the hotel.

Police did not provide information about the relationship between Stottler and Mullins.

Stottler is being held without bond at the Pinellas County Jail. He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Islanders Shake Up Roster: Key NHL Players Left Without Qualifying Offers

    0

The New York Islanders decided not to offer qualifying contracts to their trio of NHL-level restricted free agents by Monday’s deadline, suggesting that Marc Gatcomb, Max Shabanov, and Adam Boqvist are likely parting ways with the team.

An insider shared with The Post that although the Islanders may still consider re-signing Gatcomb as an unrestricted free agent, the absence of a qualifying offer indicates he isn’t a top priority for the team.

New York Islanders center Marc Gatcomb and Vancouver Canucks left wing Kiefer Sherwood chase the puck.

Over the weekend, general manager Mathieu Darche confirmed that Adam Boqvist would not receive a qualifying offer after facing challenges in securing a spot in last season’s lineup.

Similarly, it comes as little surprise that Shabanov, who joined the Islanders last summer from Russia, is not being retained after spending much of the season as a healthy scratch.

In contrast, Gatcomb frequently found himself on the ice, making valuable contributions on the fourth line throughout the season.

The former undrafted free agent broke into the NHL with the Islanders two seasons ago and fought his way to a regular role with physical, straight-line play.

Alex Jeffries, Joey Larson and Henrik Tikkanen, all minor leaguers, were qualified and will become restricted free agents.

Also among the AHL contingent, Matt Maggio, Eetu Liukas, Tristan Lennox and Ruslan Iskhakov were not extended qualifying offers.
