Australia Prepares for Midday Celebration as Socceroos Enthusiasm Peaks

0

Australia is bracing for a major FIFA World Cup showdown against Paraguay, expected to bring bustling activity to a halt as pubs, public viewing areas, and office watch parties fill up. Millions of fans across the country are preparing to tune in to this high-stakes match.

As the Socceroos aim to secure their spot in the Round of 32, employers are gearing up for a possible increase in sudden absences and requests to work from home. This final group match, set squarely in the middle of a workday, kicks off at 12pm AEST on Friday. Fans can catch the live action for free on SBS or SBS On Demand.

The stakes couldn’t be higher for Australia. A victory or even a draw will ensure their progression, but a loss could not only end their campaign but also set them against a more formidable foe in the next stage of the knockout rounds.

In a nod to the country’s spirited sports culture, one might recall former Prime Minister Bob Hawke’s iconic statement after Australia clinched the America’s Cup in 1983: “Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum.”

Although current Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hasn’t endorsed quite the same leniency, he has gently urged employers to extend compassion to employees supporting the Socceroos, invoking national pride as they handle workplace absences.

“I know that Australian workers will be, of course, very passionate about the Socceroos — and I know that Australian employers will be generous in their approach to these things,” he told ABC News Breakfast.

“I’m not giving people instructions … common sense should apply.”

Albanese added that his morning meetings will also be finishing earlier so his team can watch the game.

“I’ve got a Ministry meeting here in Parliament House this morning. It will end sharply at 11:30am, I assure you, so that people can get in front of their TV screen and watch it on SBS.”

“It will be a great couple of hours. I’m sure the whole of Australia will be cheering on the Socceroos.”

Treasurer Jim Chalmers said he thought employers would “understand” if workers didn’t return to the office, should the Socceroos win.

“I suspect there might be a few long-ish lunches, particularly if we win,” he told reporters in Canberra on Friday morning.

“I think a lot of people might be finding a reason not to go back to the office after lunch if we win, and you know, that’s a good thing.”

“I think a lot of employers around the country would understand if people don’t come back on site or back to the office after lunch, if we win.”

Millions of Australians expected to tune in

Nearly five million Australians tuned in for the Socceroos’ opening match against Türkiye, while more than 3.4 million set their alarms early to watch them take on the USA.

A similar figure is expected today for the midday clash, with many workers to be glued to their phones or crowded around lunchroom screens.

Research commissioned by SBS through the World Cup Watchers’ Rights Association found 71 per cent of Australians believe employers should simply allow staff to watch World Cup matches at work.

The survey also found 38 per cent had watched sport during a work call, and one in five had muted a call so they could focus on a game.

Socceroos supporter group Active Support has dubbed today the “great Australian Socceroos sickie”, claiming a “mysterious case of football fever” is sweeping the nation.

Assistant coach Paul Okon has even called on the prime minister to give Australians the day off so they can get behind the team.

Following an SBS social media call-out, dozens of Australians shared their plans for the match, with many revealing they had booked annual leave months in advance.

Others said their workplaces had organised pub bookings, while some schools planned to show the game in class.

One construction worker, who requested anonymity to protect his job, told SBS News he would be “chucking a sickie” and pulling his children out of school so they could watch together.

“I don’t get too elaborate with excuses. I’ll likely tell them I have an appointment,” he said.

The self-confessed football fanatic said he had already been following the World Cup whenever possible while on the job.

“I think it’s going to be pretty obvious [why I called in sick],” he said.

“If I was found out, I would be one of the first on the chopping block.

“All the bosses know that I’m just listening to the games all day while I’m working away, so it is what it is. For me, it’s unmissable.”

Another supporter said he had scheduled an early-morning text message to his boss, claiming to be suffering from food poisoning.

‘Huge opportunity’ for employers

While productivity may take a hit, Natasha Hawker, managing director of HR consultancy Employee Matters, said employers who embrace the World Cup could reap other benefits.

“It’s a huge opportunity from a cultural and team-building perspective,” she told SBS News.

“Employers can use this as an opportunity to bring team members together, cheer on the Socceroos, build engagement and strengthen communication … given we’re such a sporting-mad nation.”

She encouraged businesses to organise watch parties and encourage staff to wear green and gold.

One workplace doing exactly that is Those Voiceover Guys, a commercial audio production company in Ballarat, Victoria.

The business has booked a local pub for staff, with the boss picking up the tab. Any jobs that land during the game have to wait until they’re back — or, if the Socceroos win, until Monday.

“A lot of people say the Melbourne Cup is the race that stops the nation,” senior producer Dav Byrne told SBS News.

“I think the Socceroos’ games are absolutely the games that stop the nation.”

Vincent, an IT worker in Melbourne, will also be watching on the clock after convincing management to screen the match on a large television.

“HR was more than happy to accommodate that, so we’re all getting food together and getting ready for the 12 o’clock kick-off,” he told SBS News.

“It unites everyone. As Australians, we all get around sport, don’t we?

“Especially in Melbourne, but there’s definitely a sense of pride in seeing your nation represented at a World Cup.”

Judge to Decide on Tyler Robinson’s Motion to Exclude Death Penalty in Charlie Kirk Case

0

Tyler Robinson, who stands accused of attempting to assassinate Charlie Kirk, awaits to hear his fate on Friday when a judge in Utah decides whether to honor his defense team’s plea to remove the death penalty from considerations, citing alleged violations of a gag order by the prosecution.

Judge Tony Graf Jr. will deliver a verdict on whether the prosecution breached his gag order or state court protocols, and if confirmed, what the repercussions might entail.

Robinson’s attorneys argue that the sole adequate response is to omit the death penalty as an option, a move that Utah County prosecutors argue would be excessive if the court agrees with the defense.

“This Court must demonstrate that its directives, and the ethical guidelines that attorneys must adhere to, apply equally to the prosecution, even in this high-profile case. The only suitable penalty is to withdraw the State’s death penalty notice,” states the document, endorsed by defense lawyers Kathryn Nester, Richard Novak, Michael Burt, and Staci Visser.

Prosecutors have countered that they did not violate the gag order or any other court rules when they “set the record straight” after what they call a misleading statement from a defense filing led to viral news coverage suggesting that the ATF could not match the bullet that killed Charlie Kirk to the suspected murder weapon, Robinson’s grandfather’s rifle.

The ATF could neither identify nor exclude Robinson’s grandfather’s rifle as the source of the bullet fragment recovered from Kirk, describing the tool mark analysis as inconclusive, according to court records. But the caliber was consistent, and a spent casing was also a match.

Neither the gag order on Robinson’s case nor state court rules prohibited prosecutors from correcting what they saw as the defense’s misleading court filing, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors have said they plan to seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted of assassinating Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025.

The back-and-forth has evolved into a war of words, with prosecutors accusing the defense of releasing misleading information through court filings, and the defense accusing prosecutors of “hubris” when responding in a string of media interviews they claim violate a gag order.

Robinson will attend remotely from jail. He has not yet entered a plea and is not expected to until after his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled to take place over a week in early July.

The mystery deepens in the death of 39-year-old personal trainer

0

The perplexing case surrounding the death of a South Carolina personal trainer took a more enigmatic turn after an autopsy failed to reveal the cause of death.

Elena Moore, 39, disappeared under mysterious circumstances after checking into Planet Fitness in Lexington on June 11, a location just 20 minutes from Columbia.

Her body was subsequently discovered nearly a week later, on June 17, after authorities received a tip-off that she had last been seen walking toward woods near Lakeside Middle School. This was just over a mile away from where she was last known to be, according to the Lexington Police Department.

Moore’s attire when she was found—a familiar olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants—matched that captured by gym surveillance on the day she vanished.

The footage showed her conversing with the front desk staff before being last observed heading toward a wooded area situated behind the nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.

Moore’s autopsy, which was conducted on Saturday, did not identify an immediate cause of death, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

‘Examination of the body revealed no evidence of traumatic injury, including no bruising, lacerations, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, blunt force trauma, strangulation, or other external injuries,’ the coroner said.

‘As a result, the cause of death remains pending at this time. Additional evaluation is required, including histological studies, review of medical records, and toxicology testing.’

The coroner’s office said it will not release any further information about Moore until all pending studies have been completed and the pathologist has determined the cause and manner of death.

It remains unclear what Moore may have been doing in the wooded area where the body was found.

The Lexington Police Department told the Daily Mail the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has taken over the investigation into Moore’s death.

On June 4, a week before her disappearance, Moore was caught by a doorbell camera about half a mile from the gym, appearing confused as she tried to enter a stranger’s home.

The footage, first obtained by NewsNation, showed a DoorDash driver delivering food at the door before Moore, wearing black clothes and oversized sunglasses, who picked up the order and handed it to the couple living there.

Moore can be seen briefly interacting with a DoorDash driver, then appears to be muttering to herself as the door opens and the order is collected.

Moore briefly seemed to try to walk into the home before the door was shut in her face, leaving her outside in the hallway.

Resident John Moore, of no relation, said the missing woman ‘seemed really confused and disoriented about where she was or whatever she was doing.’

Sarah Burleson, John Moore’s wife, told NewsNation that she later saw the missing woman going through a neighbor’s packages.

Moore allegedly told Burleson that she did not know what she was doing.

The personal trainer was an active social media user, but abruptly stopped posting around a month before she disappeared.

On a second Instagram account, however, Moore shared emotional messages, including a recount of how someone let her ‘destroy’ herself to keep ‘us’ alive,’ messages seen by TMZ revealed.

In the post, Moore said that she felt ‘exhausting hatred’ from the ordeal and added: ‘I never wanted to look at someone I once loved with disgust and resentment.’

The heart-wrenching message detailed how a person ‘watched me love you with everything I had,’ only to ‘hurt me anyway.’

‘…you turned love into something painful, something heavy, something I now have to heal from every single day,’ the message continued.

‘I hate what you did to me. I hate the memories that won’t leave me alone, and more than anything, I hate that a part of me still mourns the person I thought you were.’

Moore was reported missing by her husband, Brannon Slice, on June 12, and her body was discovered by law enforcement five days later.

The Daily Mail contacted the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and SLED for comment.

Jury Stalemate in Jonathan Rinderknecht’s Los Angeles Palisades Fire Trial Prompts Legal Strategizing

0

LOS ANGELES — After two days of deliberations, a jury remains deadlocked in the trial of the man accused of igniting the catastrophic 2025 Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, leaving attorneys to consider their next moves.

On Thursday, jurors in the case of 29-year-old Jonathan Rinderknecht were unable to reach a unanimous decision on three federal charges against him. This announcement came shortly after they initially reported reaching a consensus. The jury has been instructed to reconvene Friday morning.

Typically, judges refrain from declaring a mistrial until exploring every possibility to confirm that the jury is indeed at an impasse.

“We have people on both sides that are dead set, unwavering and unwilling to change their opinion,” a message from the jury, read by Judge Anne Hwang, revealed. “We are at a standstill. We are unsure how to proceed.”

Rinderknecht, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of starting the blaze that ranks among California’s most devastating wildfires. He faces charges of arson, malicious destruction by means of fire, and setting timber on fire.

Prosecutors say Rinderknecht started a fire on Jan. 1, 2025, that burned undetected deep in root systems before flaring back up a week later. The Palisades Fire began Jan. 7 and burned through the hillside neighborhoods of Pacific Palisades and Malibu, killing 12 people.

His trial began June 8 and has featured lengthy testimony from investigators, experts and witnesses from surrounding areas. While the government lacked direct evidence that Rinderknecht sparked the first fire, they placed him in the area and showed he was angry and erratic on the night of the blaze. A potential motive, they said, was his frustration at the rich and powerful. His defense argued the blaze’s cause was more likely to be fireworks.

Hwang sent a note asking if there was anything the court could do to help with deliberations, such as additional instructions or re-reading of testimony. The jury said no. She then asked if the jury was split on all three of Rinderknecht’s charges, and the jury confirmed it was.

Prosecutors suggested that the judge offer additional argument to help the jurors continue to deliberate, but Rinderknecht’s attorneys opposed. They also suggested an Allen charge, which is essentially a more strongly worded jury instruction that urges a hung jury to continue trying to come to an agreement.

Both sides asked for the jury to return Friday so they had more time to plan their options.

Rinderknecht’s father, who has been in court for the duration of the trial, put his head in his hands when the jury said it was at a standstill. His brother and sister were in court as well.

Rinderknecht was feeling “a lot of anxiety” as he listened to proceedings in court, his attorney Steve Haney said.

“You can imagine his life’s on the line. … It’s been a long run for him,” Haney said. “He’s been locked up for 10 months.”

South Korea Fans Urge Manager’s Removal After Star Player Son Heung-min Benched in Crucial World Cup Match

0

South Korea’s head coach, Hong Myung-bo, is under immense pressure to resign after their disastrous performance in the World Cup. The team suffered a 1-0 defeat to South Africa, who were considered the least threatening team in Group A.

The disappointment among South Korean fans stems not only from the team’s precarious position in the tournament but also from their dismal display. Despite dominating possession, they failed to create significant scoring opportunities, leaving spectators frustrated by the lackluster performance.

Their few attempts on goal included a meek header from Oh Hyeon-gyu and an early attempt by Lee Kang-in. This underwhelming showing has sparked a petition for Hong’s removal, labeling it as ‘lifeless’ and marking it as one of the most disappointing performances in South Korea’s World Cup history. Fans are now anxiously hoping for favorable outcomes to secure one of the eight third-place spots needed to advance to the knockout stages.

The decision to bench South Korea’s star player, despite their earlier narrow win over the Czech Republic and lack of shots in their loss to Mexico, was a risky move. The gamble has backfired dramatically, reflecting poorly on Hong’s strategy.

South Korea had only to avoid losing to the Group A underdogs to secure the second spot in the standings. This missed opportunity has led to a wave of demands from fans and media alike for Hong to step down from his role as coach.

The most controversial moment actually arrived before the game, with captain Son Heung-min dropped from the starting line-up for the first ever time in the former Spurs midfielder's career

A petition from fans in the wake of the defeat argued that Hong’s appointment had been tainted by procedural flaws from the outset and that it was ‘fundamentally illegitimate’

Such has been the backlash that, in the post-match press conference, journalists described the South Korean performance as ‘dismal’; another suggested that the only explanation for such a poor display was a case of ‘mass food poisoning within the squad’, and Hong’s decision-making was labelled a ‘failure’.

A petition from fans in the wake of the defeat argued that Hong’s appointment had been tainted by procedural flaws from the outset.

It read: ‘The Korea Football Association’s official selection process was effectively ignored, making it difficult to avoid criticism that the appointment was fundamentally illegitimate.’

It continued: ‘Despite fielding what many considered the strongest squad in Korea’s World Cup history, the team finished with one win and two losses, placing third in the group.

‘The performance against South Africa was so lifeless that it could be regarded as one of the worst displays by a Korean team in World Cup history.’

Aside from Hong’s removal, the petition also urged sweeping reforms to the governance of the Korea Football Association (KFA).

Hong himself, who many believe would not have stayed beyond the end of this campaign, accepted ‘full responsibility’ in the wake of the defeat – and will therefore likely go quietly if asked to do so.

‘In terms of the process and preparing for this game, and how we would play on the field, that is something I put much thought into,’ said the former South Korea captain, who led the team to its famous semifinal finish in 2002 during his playing days. ‘Of course, if we knew what the result was going to be, I probably would have made different choices.

‘But I had a strategy in mind. Whenever such a bad result happens, everyone has their own opinion. The result is really the responsibility of the head coach. Ultimately, it comes down to my hands.

‘I guess I made the wrong decisions and that was the reason we had a bad result. Nothing more, nothing less.’

As for his decision-making behind the exclusion of Son, Hong argued that he believed in the build-up to the match that the 33-year-old would be most ruthless when deployed against a tiring South African side – although he actually brought him on at the start of the second half, right after both teams had benefited from a break, and he had little impact on the game.

‘We thought that Son would be better placed (to make an impact) when the opponents were losing their energy, not when they had a lot of energy,’ Hong added. ‘And when there were more spaces to exploit between the opponents’ defensive line, that’s when we wanted Son to be at his strongest – when the opponents were a bit weaker.’

South Korea could still squeeze into the Round of 32 given they currently sit sixth in the standings. As it stands, they will face Mo Salah’s Egypt side next.

Even so, the country’s football media are predicting that regardless of the outcome of the third-place standings, Hong’s fate could already be sealed.

Refurbished Buckingham Palace Awaits New Era as King and Queen Choose Alternate Residence

Buckingham Palace may never again serve as the primary residence for a British monarch, as it has been confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla do not plan to return to the historic estate.

King and Queen won't live at Buckingham Palace after 369m refurb

Royal couple opts to reside outside Buckingham Palace post £369m renovation

Currently undergoing extensive renovations estimated at £369 million, Buckingham Palace will not host the King and Queen even after the project concludes in March. Instead, the royal couple prefers to remain at Clarence House, located nearby.

James Chalmers, Keeper of the Privy Purse, said: “I can update you that after careful consideration, and to greatly increase opportunities for public access, the King and Queen have decided not to adopt Buckingham Palace as a personal residence and will instead continue to use Clarence House as their London home.”

However, the king and queen will still use private rooms within the Palace – which has been a London residence of the British monarch since 1837 – during the working day.

James added: “Their Majesties will, however, have access to private rooms within the Palace where they can retire during the course of a working day, and which could be utilised as potential residential accommodation in times ahead.

“This is both a change from the past and a recognition of the future.

“Let me be clear, however, in all other ways the Palace will continue to be both the ceremonial and operational centre of royal life.”

It’s thought Prince William also won’t live in Buckingham Palace when he becomes king, because he is said to be happy at Forest Lodge in Windsor with his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, and their three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight.

However, Buckingham Palace will still be widely used by the Royal Family, such as Charles hosting events, including garden parties, at the residence.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The Palace will continue in every traditional way to be the beating heart of the Monarchy, just not its resting head.

“It will be a buzzing hive of activity in every other way.

“His Majesty retains huge affection for Buckingham Palace and a deep respect for its role in royal and public life.

“It will remain a working home but we are seeking to widen public access precisely to maximise the national benefit of a publicly-funded building.”

Mets Dismiss Carlos Mendoza Amid Transformational Efforts in Wake of Disastrous Season

0

Carlos Mendoza has become the scapegoat for the Mets’ disappointing season.

The Mets parted ways with their manager on Friday, according to a report by Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of The Post. This decision comes as the team languishes 14 games below the .500 mark, after enduring their sixth consecutive defeat on Thursday, signaling what seems to be their second consecutive year missing the playoffs.

Andy Green has been appointed as the interim manager.

While the blame for the Mets’ turmoil is widespread, including criticism directed at President of Baseball Operations David Stearns, it was Mendoza who first made an exit. This comes as the team, featuring a roster valued at over $320 million, holds the worst record in the NL East at 34-37.

Mendoza’s initial success in 2024 was overshadowed by last year’s collapse in the latter half of the season, and a dismal 10-21 start this year, which began with a 12-game losing streak, ultimately landed him on shaky ground.

Stearns backed his manager on May 1 while some wondered about Mendoza’s future.

“We know our record is not what we want, and we know we are capable of more,” Stearns told MLB.com. “We don’t view this as a manager problem, and we don’t intend to make a change.”

New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza reacts in the dugout.

The Mets responded by winning 11 of their next 16 games, and a four-game win streak to end May had the team sitting at 26-33 entering May.

A five-game losing streak from June 18-24 in which the Mets allowed 50 runs dropped them a season-high 12 games below .500 and led to David Peterson being traded, and Mendoza departed soon after.

The Mets will now hope that their new manager can have same the galvanizing effect that Don Mattingly has had in Philadelphia this year, with their rivals taking off after he replaced Rob Thomson.

For Mendoza, this firing ends an up-and-down two-and-a-half-year run.

Mendoza’s tenure began with him looking like he could be the team’s skipper for the next decade or so before the failures of the last year and a half caught up to him.

He unexpectedly led the team to the NLCS in his rookie season in 2024, upsetting the Phillies along the way in one of the team’s best moments since the 2015 World Series run.

The 2025 season, with newcomer Juan Soto, began in epic fashion with a 45-24 record through June 12 before the Mets collapsed and somehow did not finish with a top-six NL record.

They finished 38-55 to finish 83-79, losing two of three in the season-ending series against the woeful Marlins to allow the Reds to claim the final wild-card spot.

Mendoza received a retooled roster this offseason featuring Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien and Freddy Peralta with Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo exiting, and the team had high hopes.

Bichette has not hit as expected, Peralta has pitched like a back-end starter instead of an ace and Francisco Lindor has spent most of the year on the injured list, among other team issues.

The Mets are now all but set to be sellers this summer.

Green is now the fourth manager under owner Steve Cohen, joining Luis Rojas, Buck Showalter and Mendoza, with no skipper yet to last three seasons under the big-spending owner.

Congressional Hopeful Loses Job Amid Controversy: What You Need to Know

0

In Wyoming’s political landscape, a congressional candidate is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Reid Rasner, running as a Republican in the primary race for the state’s lone congressional seat, faces scrutiny following a disclosure of his dismissal from a finance position amid controversial circumstances.

This latest twist in Rasner’s ambitions was revealed through a federal filing indicating he was discharged from his role at LPL Financial LLC. This advisory and brokerage giant, a $22 billion firm, stated in its notice that Rasner was let go due to alleged participation in ‘unapproved outside business activity.’

The development surfaced on April 24, as documented in a disclosure published on the SEC’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website. While the notice piques significant interest, specific details surrounding the allegations are yet to be disclosed.

Rasner had been affiliated with LPL Financial since March 2019, marking a substantial period until his tenure ended abruptly this spring. As one among ten contenders aiming for the Republican nomination, Rasner’s political journey now faces additional challenges with this professional setback.

Rasner was registered with the firm in March 2019 up until this spring of this year, according to the SEC website.

But on May 11 of this year, Rasner’s registration changed to Omnivest Financial, an investment adviser firm in New York and Wyoming that he owns.

On Thursday afternoon, Rasner’s campaign sent Daily Mail a statement from Omnivest regarding the political hopeful’s apparent dismissal from LPL.

The statement sent by the campaign claimed that Rasner ‘was never an employee of LPL Financial’ and that ‘he was an independent contractor who owned 100% of his prior business.’

‘The transition Omnivest Financial made was a negotiated business transaction in which LPL purchased client relationships as Mr. Rasner launched his own registered investment advisor firm,’ the statement continued.

It called any suggestion that Rasner was terminated for misconduct ‘inaccurate, misleading, and unacceptable.’

Rasner’s campaign directed further questions to Omnivest, which he owns.

When the Daily Mail reached out to Omnivest, the firm promptly returned the same statement sent by Rasner’s campaign.

They did not immediately reply to a follow up question about why the disclosure notice was up on the SEC’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website.

Rasner was listed on the website as an investment adviser, who is defined as someone that is paid for providing advice about securities to clients.

He was also named as a previous broker who bought and sold stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other sorts of investments.

The SEC specified that disclosures could be customer complaints or arbitrations, regulatory actions, employment terminations, bankruptcy filings and civil or criminal proceedings.

A disclosure brochure from June 15 said that Rasner was ‘100% owner’ of Omnivest, which was founded in 2019 and began providing advisory services this year.

The brochure noted that Rasner ‘has a non–financial affiliated business as a congressional candidate.’

‘Approximately 10% of his time is spent on these activities,’ the filing said.

A public profile on the Forbes Business Council previously said Rasner was passionate about ’empowering business leaders, fostering strategic partnerships, and advocating for American entrepreneurship.’

Rasner has maintained an active social media presence since the news about the disclosure notice broke.

On Thursday morning, he posted a video asking voters if they were for or against the right to carry a concealed handgun.

Rasner sported a Make America Great Again Hat and appeared to be using a miniature American flag as a microphone.

‘Alright, we’re packing,’ he told a man featured in the video, though the local said he actually did not have a firearm on him.

Rasner also urged locals to vote for him as he called to ‘Ban Sharia Law Now.’

On his website, Rasner touted his campaign as fighting to ‘put Wyoming and America first, standing strong against globalist policies that undermine our workers, families, and industries.’

He has described himself as a ‘conservative political outsider’ whose roots in Wyoming stretch back four generations.

His campaign has received attention, particularly online. In late March, Rasner pushed for ‘no more fat kids’ as he spoke at a local football field.

Earlier this month, he posted a video of two donkeys that he captioned, ‘We found the only 2 Democrats in Wyoming.’

‘Behind me we have Barack and Biden,’ Rasner said. ‘A couple of the nicest asses I’ve met.’

Rasner has also pushed to ‘ban all transgender surgeries’ and encouraged mass deportations.

He previously gained attention last year when he claimed to be in conversations to buy TikTok, according to NBC News.

In 2024, Rasner unsuccessfully attempted to defeat incumbent Senator John Barrasso in the GOP’s Wyoming primary.

In this particular podcast episode, Fishel, 45, shared an embarrassing story that took place while she was touring with Friedle and Strong.

“There was one time, you know, when I travel, I’m a girl. I don’t always keep my same bathroom habits when I travel. Unfortunately, my body just changes,” Fishel recalled. “So there was one time I was like, ‘Guys, I don’t know what to do. It’s been a few days since I’ve been to the bathroom.’ I had to take some very strong laxatives,” she explained.

Friedle, 49, then interjected to add, “You had to pull over on the side of the road!”

Continuing her story, Fishel confessed, “I went to the bathroom in the most repulsive Porta Potty in a gas station.”

When Strong, 46, pointed out that there were “probably spiders” in the bathroom, Fishel noted the situation was so dire at that point that a thought like that was the least of her worries.

“You know what? I couldn’t have cared, I couldn’t have cared, it wouldn’t have mattered. It would have been at the side of the road or in the Porta Potty,” she said.

Will Friedle Explains Why He Joined 'Boy Meets World' Spinoff Despite Initially Refusing

Will Friedle had no intention of saying “yes” to joining the Boy Meets World spinoff, Girl Meets World — especially after producer Michael Jacobs told him he couldn’t write for the show. Thankfully, something changed. “We made a deal,” Friedle, 49, exclusively told Us Weekly at the Doc Meets World premiere red carpet at the […]

The actress concluded, “And so we’ve learned a lot about each other.”

After her costars shared that a video exists that shows Fishel coming out of the gas station with her hands up in the air in triumph and looking excited, Fishel admitted, “I was thrilled, I felt like a new person.”

Earlier in the episode, Fishel also shared what she had discovered about her podcast cohost Friedle.

“So I did not have any idea how many times a day Will changes his underwear, But doing the podcast live tour, we got probably too comfortable with our travel habits. We got to talk regularly about what underwear Will was currently wearing,” she said. “He would then show us and then he’d say, ‘I’m going to go and change into these for the live show.’ So then we’d know what underwear he was wearing for the live show.”

Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley Reunite for Exciting New Show Post-‘Vampire Diaries’ Reunion

Almost ten years after the conclusion of The Vampire Diaries, actors Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are set to reunite for an exciting new project.

The beloved former co-stars are slated to both executive produce and star in Hulu’s upcoming series, You Deserve to Know. This show is an adaptation of Aggie Blum Thompson’s forthcoming thriller novel, set to release in 2025. The official summary teases an intriguing tale: “You Deserve to Know centers around three suburban couples, who are best friends and live next door to each other. The murder of one husband triggers the unraveling of shocking secrets, putting their friendship to the ultimate test.”

Dobrev, who is now 37, took to Instagram on Thursday, June 25, to share her enthusiasm about the project. She expressed, “I’ve been eagerly waiting to announce this. We fell in love with this novel, and having the chance to shape its adaptation both in front and behind the camera has been an incredible journey.”

Prior to joining forces on You Deserve to Know, Wesley, 43, and Dobrev captivated audiences with their performances in The Vampire Diaries on The CW. The series spanned from 2009 to 2017 and revolved around a dramatic love triangle involving Elena (Dobrev) and the brothers Stefan (Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder).

The Vampire Diaries was more than just on-screen romance; the cast’s chemistry often extended beyond the set, with many finding real-life connections within the show’s universe. Since the series’ premiere in 2009, audiences became deeply invested in the supernatural drama unfolding in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Dobrev and Wesley previously surprised fans by discussing their initial tension on set.

“Paul and I didn’t get along at the beginning of the show. I respected Paul Wesley, I didn’t like Paul Wesley,” Dobrev recalled on a 2019 episode of the “Directionally Challenged” podcast, which was hosted by former costars Candice King and Kayla Ewell. “I remember everyone would walk up to me after the show aired and they’d be like, ‘Are you and Paul dating in real life?’ Everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. I realize now that there’s a fine line between love and hate, and we despised each other so much that it read as love, but … we really just didn’t get along [for] the first five months of shooting.”

Dobrev, who dated Somerhalder, now 47, from 2010 to 2013, eventually developed a close bond with Wesley.

“We ended up getting to a good place and it was fine,” she concluded. “Of everyone, I think I probably see him the most and hang out with him the most. We’re probably the closest. We hang out a lot. We’re really good friends. … It’s so funny how time changes everything because I never thought he would be one of my best friends.”

Wesley, for his part, shared a similar sentiment when he recalled the interesting approach he took for his chemistry read with Dobrev — ignoring her before the audition.

“I had a real specific approach. Nina, who was already cast as the lead, was there and everybody in that audition room during that process was kissing her ass because she was in the hallways. Everyone was going up to her and saying hi. And I was like, ‘F*** that. I’m not going to look her in the eye and I’m also not going to introduce myself. I’m just gonna sit in the corner,’” Wesley recalled during a 2023 episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast.

The Vampire Diaries Cast Where Are They Now

The Vampire Diaries’ 2009 premiere introduced fans to one of the most memorable vampire-themed series to date. The CW show, which ran for eight seasons until 2017, took place in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, home to mythical creatures and humans alike. In addition to tales of people becoming vampires, or finding out […]

The actor used Stefan and Elena’s backstory in the pilot as inspiration.

“[I didn’t do that] because I was trying to be rude. But because in the scene, we were supposed to not know who one another is,” he noted. “It’s supposed to be a mystery. We were supposed to meet for the first time. We were supposed to meet at that exact moment. And I thought, ‘Well, f*** that. I want our moment to be really special. I want her to get to know me in that moment.’”

Wesley said Dobrev didn’t have the best first impression of him because of his method acting.

“Nina remembers this and I just remember her looking over at me wanting to say hi to me and introduce herself. I just turned away. I think she thought initially, like, ‘Who the f*** does this guy think he is?’” he continued. “But anyway, I went in there and I just remember the audition and the first time we ever met in real life was actually in that audition room. It was just a very magical moment. And I felt it. She felt [it] and I know all those studio executives felt it. And I think that’s what landed me the part.”
