Frank Catania Sets the Record Straight: Dolores Catania and Paul Connell Not Behind His ‘RHONJ’ Exit

Following an exclusive tip-off reported by Reality Blurb, questions have emerged about Frank Catania’s absence from the filming of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. To shed light on the situation, we spoke directly with Frank regarding the reasons behind his departure from the show.

Speculation has swirled, suggesting that Teresa Giudice might be involved in Frank’s non-participation. Additionally, social media chatter has hinted at the possibility that his ex-wife, Dolores Catania, and her fiancé, Paul Connell, could have played a role.

When asked about the rumors involving Teresa, Frank acknowledged hearing them but clarified, “Did I hear those rumors? Yes, I did. But you know, did I ever hear anything concrete? No.”

Frank firmly addressed the speculation surrounding Dolores and Paulie, stating, “One thing I can say is if something was communicated to production, I am 100% sure it was not Dolores and Paulie, and I want that cleared up.” He further emphasized, “Dolores and Paulie have always wanted Brittany Mattessich and me included in family scenes.”

“One thing I can say if something was said to production, I am 100% sure it was not Dolores and Paulie, and I want that cleared up,” Frank explicitly stated. “Dolores and Paulie have always indicated they wanted Brittany Mattessich and I included in family scenes.”

Frank reiterated he knows “for sure it’s not” Dolores and Paulie who didn’t want him filming.

“To be clear, Bravo also didn’t tell me that they didn’t want me filming,” he elaborated. “There just have been scenes that I would normally be included in that I have not been included.”

Frank reflected that in the world of reality TV, “anything can happen.”

“And for anybody to not want me to film? I have no idea,” he added. “I get along with everybody. Did Luis [Ruelas] and I have my issues in the past? 100%. But I’m a peacemaker and we moved on so I would be disappointed if I ever found out something was said.”

Frank concluded by noting he filmed RHONJ “because I enjoyed it and I enjoyed hanging out with the guys.”

“I also loved when it was a good scene for my family… That’s the part I loved,” he elaborated. “There’s simply no animosity and no drama. But if it’s all gone tomorrow? I’m okay with that.”

In the initial report from Reality Blurb, the source alleged that Teresa “did not want” Frank “to be a part of the show”

“Teresa still is angry about what Frank did or tried to do to Luis, and thus did not want him being a part of season 15,” they added. “And she got what she asked for.”

NBA Star’s Fiancée Breaks Silence on Tragic Bachelorette Party Incident

The tragedy that unfolded during a celebratory occasion has prompted Jade Jones, the fiancée of NBA player Tyrese Haliburton, to speak out in the wake of her friend’s sudden passing. Makenzi Kern, who was just 26, died under mysterious circumstances while attending Jones’ bachelorette party on the idyllic island of St. Barts.

On a heartfelt note, shared via Instagram on Wednesday evening, Jones expressed her deep sorrow and admiration for Kern. “I am forever grateful that I got to love someone as truly special as Kenzi, and to have been loved back by her,” she wrote, capturing the essence of their cherished friendship.

Jones continued to describe Kern as “a light in this world,” emphasizing that her radiant spirit will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. “I love you forever until the end of time Kenzi,” she added, highlighting the profound impact Kern had on her life.

In her tribute, Jones reflected on the unique qualities that made Kern an irreplaceable companion, calling her “truly so beautiful inside and out & a once-in-a-lifetime kind of friend.” She expressed gratitude for Kern’s unwavering support, shared laughter, and the indelible memories they created together. “Thank you for always showing up for me, for making me laugh until I cry, and for being such an unforgettable part of my life,” Jones wrote. “I’ll always miss you but I know you’ll be with me, wherever I go. ‘See ya,'” she concluded, bidding farewell with enduring affection.

Kern was pronounced dead on June 8, just two days after her birthday, while ‘surrounded by her closest friends on a once in a lifetime trip to St. Barthelemy Island,’ an online obituary says.

Images shared to social media by Jones, the bride to be, on June 6 show the group of friends clad in bikinis enjoying the sunshine on beaches and by the swimming pool of the property they were staying on.

A source familiar with the situation told TMZ Kern passed away unexpectedly from health complications, and her family does not suspect foul play, nor do they believe her death is related to drugs or alcohol.

She is now survived by her parents, step parents, sister, step siblings, grandparents and her boyfriend.

Like Haliburton and his fiancée, Kern attended Iowa State, where she was a cheerleading teammate of Jones’. ‘Kenz,’ as she was known, was working as a membership director for a YMCA branch in Nebraska.

Jones and Haliburton have been together for more than seven years, dating back to his time as a rising guard for the Iowa State Cyclones.

Haliburton would go on to be drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 2020 and was later traded to the Indian Pacers, whom he led to the 2025 NBA Finals.

Unfortunately, he suffered an Achilles injury during the Finals loss to Oklahoma City and consequently missed the 2025-26 season.

In the aftermath of Kern’s shock death, theories about what may have caused it have run rampant.

A woman who claims to know the family posted online that Kern died of a sudden heart attack.

Rumors have spread online – with some speculating that Kern’s death may be a result of a reaction to the controversial mRNA COVID vaccines.

‘Sounds sudden and vaxxy,’ one X account posted.

Laura Miers, an outspoken critic of the COVID vaccines, also wrote that ‘the New Normal really blows.

‘We will be witnessing record premature death for the rest of our natural lives.’

There is no evidence to suggest Kern died as a result of receiving the COVID vaccine.

Controversy Erupts as Giants Broadcaster Challenges Players Over Bible Verses on Pride Night

0

Mike Krukow, a revered voice in baseball and broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants, has expressed disapproval towards players choosing to display Bible verses on their headwear during the team’s Pride Night celebrations.

According to a report by – News, Major League Baseball recently cautioned three San Francisco Giants pitchers for wearing caps inscribed with Bible verses during Pride Night. This incident took place last Friday when Giants pitcher Landen Roupp drew attention by wearing a hat marked with “Gen 9:12-16.” Following suit, relievers JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker also showcased Bible verses on their Pride Night hats.

“The inscriptions on the caps contravene our regulations, and as per usual procedure, we have issued a warning to the players regarding any future infractions,” stated Pat Courtney, MLB’s chief communications officer, in a conversation with The Athletic on Monday.

While the players had their share of prominent defenders, including Vice President J.D. Vance and other Republicans, Mike Krukow said during an appearance on KNBR on Wednesday that, while he supports the players’ right to share their opinions, he ultimately felt they failed to understand San Francisco and broader Northern California.

Krukow remarked on the importance of understanding the cultural and religious sensitivities of the San Francisco community. “When you’re a player stepping into this environment, it’s your duty to be aware of how deeply this city values cultural freedom and religious liberty, and the manner in which you conduct your life,” he explained. “The response they received was a wake-up call, reflecting not only the sentiments of the LGBTQ+ community but also the broader Northern California populace that stands in solidarity with them.”

Furthermore, Krukow reminisced about the Giants’ longstanding support for the LGBTQ+ community, tracing back to their active role during the AIDS crisis.

Krukow also highlighted the team’s past support for the gay community, going back to the AIDS crisis.

“There’s an irony too because the Giants organization is getting dumped on as well, and that hurt me,” he said. “It hurt me because I saw in 1994 that they were the first team to ever take on the challenge of going against public opinion and the outrage of even associating with the gay community, and they openly went out and said, ‘We support the gay community. We support until there’s a cure day. We are going to raise money to fight AIDS. We support the community.’ And they did it with love.

“… And the Giants were the first team at the ballpark to wave the pride flag, and that took on criticism from around the country. So it hurt me to see that there was criticism directed towards the Giants, because of all that they have done to help the gay community, and the relationship between the Giants and the gay community has always been amazing,” he added.

Krukow concluded with a call for understanding on both sides.

“If I was a part of the gay community, or a minority, and there was hate directed towards me — if there was opinion that that was prejudice directed towards me, I would stand tall, and I would scream as loudly as I possibly could,” Krukow said. “And I get this, I do, but I do think that it’s necessary that we do look at both sides of this. We respect those that voice their opinion, even when we disagree with it, and we also applaud those that stood tall.”

Reclaim Glute Strength After 60: 5 Bed Exercises to Outshine Gym Machines

0

For those over 60, maintaining strong glute muscles is essential for enhancing daily movement and overall stability. Robust glutes not only facilitate smoother walking and climbing stairs but also offer crucial support to your hips and lower back during routine activities. Focusing on strengthening these muscles can significantly improve the steadiness and confidence of your lower body as you age.

While gym machines are beneficial for adding resistance and isolating specific muscles, exercises performed in bed provide a unique set of advantages. These routines are straightforward, comfortable, and easy to perform repeatedly. They allow you to concentrate on engaging the right muscles, thereby enhancing hip strength without the need for elaborate equipment. This makes them an ideal choice for a quick strength boost in the mornings, before sleeping, or whenever a brief workout is desired.

As a coach, I advocate for exercises that immediately engage the target muscles. Effective glute exercises should be executed with intention, control, and a sense of connection. The following bed-based exercises are designed to enhance hip extension, outer-hip strength, and single-leg stability, all while remaining accessible to individuals at any fitness level. The objective is to cultivate stronger glutes that support essential movements like walking, standing, and maintaining balance, ultimately leading to increased everyday confidence.

Gym machines can be useful, especially when you want to add load or target a specific muscle. Bed exercises offer a different advantage: they’re simple, comfortable, and easy to repeat. You can slow down, focus on the right muscles, and build better hip strength without needing a full workout setup. That makes them a smart option in the morning, before bed, or anytime you want a quick strength reset.

In coaching, I like exercises that help people feel the target muscle right away. Glute work should feel purposeful, controlled, and connected. These bed-based moves provide a supported way to train hip extension, outer-hip strength, and single-leg control while keeping the routine approachable. The goal is to build stronger glutes that support walking, standing, balance, and everyday confidence.

Think of this routine as a simple hip strength builder you can do almost anywhere. Clam shells and banded hip abductions target the outer glutes, banded bridges and frog bridges build strong hip extension, and single-leg bridges challenge each side on its own. The setup stays simple, but the work still delivers when you slow down and squeeze with intent.

Side Lying Clam Shell

Side-lying clam shells train the outer glutes and deep hip stabilizers, which help keep your knees, hips, and pelvis aligned when you walk or climb stairs. The movement looks small, but the payoff comes from keeping your pelvis still while your top knee opens. Gym machines can train hip abduction, but clam shells make you control the hip without letting the rest of your body roll around. Stronger outer glutes can help your lower body feel steadier and make daily movement feel more supported.

Muscles Trained: Outer glutes, hip stabilizers, core

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your side with your knees bent and your legs stacked.
  2. Keep your feet together and your hips facing forward.
  3. Brace your core lightly to keep your pelvis steady.
  4. Lift your top knee without rolling your hips backward.
  5. Pause briefly at the top of the movement.
  6. Lower your knee with control and complete all reps before switching sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps per side. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Mini band clam shells, paused clam shells, slower tempo clam shells

Form Tip: Move from your hip and keep your pelvis quiet.

Banded Glute Bridges

Banded glute bridges train your glutes, hamstrings, and outer hips while your core keeps your pelvis steady. The band encourages your knees to stay slightly pressed outward, which helps draw your glutes into the movement rather than letting your knees drift inward. Pressing through your heels and squeezing at the top builds the hip extension strength you need for walking, stairs, and standing up. Compared with a machine, this exercise gives you a cleaner way to feel your glutes finish each rep.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, outer hips, core

How to Do It:

  1. Place a mini band around your thighs just above your knees.
  2. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the bed.
  3. Press your knees slightly outward to create tension in the band.
  4. Brace your core and drive through your heels.
  5. Lift your hips and squeeze your glutes at the top.
  6. Lower your hips with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused banded bridges, slower banded bridges, feet elevated banded bridges

Form Tip: Keep tension on the band and finish the rep with your glutes, not your lower back.

Single Leg Glute Bridge

Single-leg glute bridges train one glute at a time while your core works to keep your hips level. Training each side separately helps expose strength gaps that two-leg bridges can hide. Your working leg has to drive the lift, hold the position, and control the lowering phase without help from the other side. That makes this exercise especially useful after 60 because stronger single-side hip strength carries into walking, stairs, balance, and standing from lower positions.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, core

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your back with one knee bent and one foot flat on the bed.
  2. Extend your opposite leg or keep it bent over your hip.
  3. Brace your core and press through your planted heel.
  4. Lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
  5. Squeeze your glute at the top.
  6. Lower with control and switch sides after your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Single-leg bridge holds, two-leg glute bridges, and elevated single-leg bridges

Form Tip: Keep your hips level and avoid twisting as you lift.

Banded Hip Abductions

Banded hip abductions train the outer glutes by making your hips press outward against resistance. Those outer hip muscles help control your pelvis, support your knees, and keep your lower body steadier when you walk or shift your weight. The band adds a clear strength challenge without requiring a machine or heavy load. Move slowly enough to feel the outer glutes working, and avoid letting the band snap your legs back together.

Muscles Trained: Outer glutes, hip stabilizers, core

How to Do It:

  1. Place a mini band around your thighs just above your knees.
  2. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the bed.
  3. Brace your core and keep your feet planted.
  4. Press your knees outward against the band.
  5. Pause briefly when you feel your outer glutes working.
  6. Bring your knees back in with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 20 reps. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused abductions, pulsing abductions, single-leg abductions

Form Tip: Keep your feet planted and move from your hips instead of your ankles.

Frog Glute Bridge

Frog glute bridges train your glutes from a different angle by placing the soles of your feet together and letting your knees open. This position reduces hamstring involvement and places greater emphasis on the glute squeeze at the top. It’s a strong finisher for restoring glute strength because you can focus on a short, controlled range and a hard contraction. Stronger glutes help support your hips, posture, lower back, and daily movements like standing, walking, and climbing stairs.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, outer hips, core

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent.
  2. Bring the soles of your feet together and let your knees open.
  3. Keep your feet close enough that your position feels comfortable.
  4. Brace your core and press the edges of your feet together.
  5. Lift your hips and squeeze your glutes at the top.
  6. Lower your hips with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused frog bridges, slow tempo frog bridges, frog bridge pulses

Form Tip: Keep the movement small and squeeze your glutes hard at the top.

How to Make Bed Glute Work Count After 60

Bed exercises work best when you treat them as real strength work rather than casual stretching. The surface may feel comfortable, but your glutes still need tension, control, and enough effort to respond. Slow the reps down, pause where the muscle works hardest, and pay attention to whether your glutes or lower back are doing most of the work.

  • Squeeze with intent: Glute bridges, frog bridges, and single-leg bridges work better when you pause at the top. That small hold helps your glutes stay under tension longer.
  • Keep your pelvis steady: Clam shells, abductions, and single-leg bridges lose value when your hips roll or twist. Brace lightly and keep your movement clean.
  • Train the outer glutes: Clam shells and banded abductions strengthen the muscles that help control your hips and knees. Those muscles matter for balance, walking, and lower body stability.
  • Use the band well: A mini band should create steady resistance, not sloppy movement. Press out with control, and return slowly so the glutes keep working in both directions.
  • Progress without rushing: Add reps, longer pauses, a stronger band, or slower tempo once the exercises feel easy. Small changes keep your glutes improving without making the routine feel like a chore.

A few focused minutes on the bed can give your glutes the direct work they’ve been missing. Build strength through clean reps, steady tension, and strong pauses, and your hips will have more support when your feet hit the floor.

Ben Affleck Drops Major Clue About New Love Interest Amidst Alleged Jennifer Lopez ‘Money Feud

Once recognized as the power couple “Bennifer,” Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have been embracing their single lives following their divorce in 2025. Affleck, typically known for his serious demeanor, showed a lighter side when discussing his bachelor status in Spanish. When questioned about his preference for Latinas, he enthusiastically affirmed, “Yes, of course I do,” as reported in a May 2025 video by the Daily Mail. This candid response suggests the type of partner he might be interested in for his next relationship.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez has been busy with the promotion of her latest romantic comedy, “Office Romance,” while also addressing speculation about her relationship with co-star Brett Goldstein. The two certainly have on-screen chemistry, fueling rumors, but Lopez is no stranger to such speculation, having previously met Affleck on the set of “Gigli,” which led to their storied romance. Over the years, nearly every co-star she has worked with has been the subject of similar rumors.

In June 2026, Page Six reported that Lopez and Goldstein appeared quite close at the wrap party for “Office Romance,” suggesting a brief fling. However, a source confided to InTouch in April 2026 that Lopez viewed him as a temporary rebound. Lopez firmly denied any ongoing romance, clarifying to “Today” host Savannah Guthrie that they were “not dating,” according to E! News.

The dissolution of Lopez and Affleck’s marriage marks another chapter in their tumultuous relationship, which began in 2002. Their initial engagement faltered, leading both to pursue other marriages—Affleck with Jennifer Garner and Lopez with Marc Anthony—before reuniting in 2021 and marrying in 2022, almost two decades after they first crossed paths.

Following their two-year union, the couple decided to sell their shared estate, listing it for $68 million. Despite insiders telling the Daily Mail that the price was excessive, Lopez was determined to keep it high. Affleck, eager to sever ties post-divorce, relinquished his share of the property to Lopez, who later reduced the listing price to $50 million in May 2026.

The aftermath of the Bennifer divorce includes an overpriced mansion and a readjustment to single life

Behind Jennifer Lopez’s divorce from Ben Affleck lies the rocky road of their relationship, which started in 2002. The couple had their ups and downs, including a failed engagement. Affleck went on to marry actor Jennifer Garner, and Lopez tied the knot with singer Marc Anthony before eventually reuniting with Affleck in 2021. Bennifer married the following year, nearly 20 years after their initial meeting.

The end of their two-year marriage was marked by putting their shared mansion on the market for a hefty $68 million. While Lopez insisted on keeping the price raised (despite insiders revealing to the Daily Mail that the home was unreasonably priced), Affleck reportedly wanted “to get rid of it because their divorce is over and he wants to cut all ties and have it be done.” He eventually gave Lopez his stake in the property, cutting one final tie to his ex, and she relisted it for $50 million in May 2026.

The two are now navigating the fallout from the second Bennifer breakup. Lopez has been embracing her single life with open arms, although the journey hasn’t been easy. She revealed on the “SmartLess” podcast, “After my last divorce, I just sat there … and I was just like, ‘You need to f***ing figure yourself out.” This would explain Lopez’s swiftness in shutting down her “Office Romance” dating rumors, even though she and Brett Goldstein looked like a perfect match.

Colombian Forces Dismantle Terror Cell After Tragic Bus Bombing: 5 Suspects Neutralized

0

The Colombian military announced on Wednesday that they had effectively put an end to the activities of five members of a militant faction linked to a catastrophic bus bombing. This attack tragically claimed the lives of 20 civilians and left 45 others wounded.

According to a statement from Colombia’s Military Forces, the individuals were part of the “Estructura Jaime Martínez,” a notorious organized armed group.

Authorities allege that beyond the bombing in the Cajibío municipality, this group was involved in criminal acts such as vehicle thefts on the Pan-American Highway and the reckless use of drone technology to deploy explosives.

The video accompanying the military’s statement also showed body bags arranged in front of a helicopter, alongside a large cache of confiscated weapons.

The military retaliation followed an April 26 terror attack, when an explosive device detonated on a passenger bus traveling along the Pan-American Highway in the volatile Cauca region.

The blast killed 15 women and five men, according to a report from The Associated Press.

While initial local reports said 36 people were injured, including several children, the Colombian military’s recent update noted that 45 civilians were wounded in the explosion.

Gen. Hugo López, commander of Colombia’s armed forces, quickly condemned the bus bombing as a “terrorist act.”

He attributed the attack to dissident factions of the defunct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), specifically pointing to the Jaime Martínez faction and the network of “Iván Mordisco,” one of the country’s most wanted figures.

The U.N. high commissioner for human rights previously urged authorities to “guarantee justice for the victims.”

Poll Reveals Only 27% of Democrats Plan to Display American Flag on July 4

0

As the United States gears up to commemorate its 250th anniversary, a recent poll highlights a stark partisan divide over patriotism, flag displays, and the essence of the July 4 holiday.

A survey by Reuters/Ipsos, conducted between June 12 and 15 with a sample of 1,537 American adults, explored how people plan to mark Independence Day. It examined their intentions to showcase the American flag, participate in patriotic events, and their personal interpretations of the holiday’s significance.

The findings reveal that 64% of Republicans intend to display an American flag or bunting outside their homes this Fourth of July, in contrast to a mere 27% of Democrats who plan to do the same.

Furthermore, the poll uncovers significant differences in perceptions of the holiday’s meaning. Approximately two-thirds of Republicans (65%) view July 4 as “a day where I celebrate the United States of America,” whereas only 24% of Democrats share this sentiment.

Nearly two-thirds of Republicans (65%) said July 4 is “a day where I celebrate the United States of America,” while only 24% of Democrats said the same.

Democrats and independents were also more likely than Republicans to describe July 4 as “just like any other day,” with both groups registering 11 percentage points higher than Republicans on that measure.

How Americans choose to celebrate the holiday also broke along party lines.

Republicans were considerably more likely to take part in traditional patriotic activities, such as wearing red, white and blue (52% compared to 20% of Democrats), attending a fireworks show (46% vs. 28%), and attending a parade or festival (20% vs. 9%).

Nearly one-quarter of Democrats and independents (24%) said they do not plan to celebrate Independence Day at all, compared with 8% of Republicans.

The survey also found significant differences in how Americans view the United States. The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that only 11% of Democrats believe the United States is the greatest country in the world, compared with 62% of Republicans.

These findings reflect other recent surveys which have documented declining patriotism and growing ideological differences between Americans.

A recent Fox News survey ahead of America’s 250th anniversary found a large number of voters believe America is divided by different values (58%) rather than shared values (42%).

Majorities of Democrats (62%) and independents (65%) think Americans are separated by different values, while views among Republicans are split (49% shared vs. 50% different values).

Eight Indicators That You, Like Jeremy Clarkson, May Be at Risk for Prostate Cancer

0

Jeremy Clarkson’s unexpected revelation, “I’ve got cancer,” left his audience in stunned silence at the conclusion of the latest season of “Clarkson’s Farm.” These quietly delivered words impacted not only his co-stars, Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland, but also his vast audience across the country.

The emotional disclosure, unveiled alongside the release of the season’s final episodes on Amazon Prime, followed an Instagram post where Clarkson hinted at a “difficult watch.” His message resonates with countless families dealing with prostate cancer, as Clarkson himself battles an “aggressive” form of the disease.

Each year, over 56,000 men receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in the UK, with one in eight men facing this health challenge in their lifetime. Tragically, the disease claims 12,000 lives annually.

Fortunately, Clarkson’s condition was detected early. Reflecting on his diagnosis in the show, he remarked, “If I hadn’t got myself checked out, this could well have been my last harvest.” Because of the early detection, he remains hopeful about continuing his farming endeavors for many more years.

David James, director of patient projects and influencing at Prostate Cancer Research, has been pivotal in educating the public about this disease over the past five years. He advises, “Based on Jeremy’s situation, swift action is crucial. Early detection means it may not have spread, and if confined to the prostate, the survival prospects are very promising. There are effective treatments available, including surgery and radiotherapy.”

Indeed, with the limited details available, the prognosis looks positive.

‘Survival rates at ten years after diagnosis are close to 100 per cent, if it is caught early,’ adds James. At stage four, rates plummet to less than 20 per cent.

While it’s not known what treatment Clarkson has received, typically surgery or radiotherapy will be followed with a course of hormone therapy.

The next step would be the removal of a prostate, a procedure known as a radical prostatectomy, which can have profound effects. Men can suffer lifelong impotence, incontinence and bowel problems caused by nerve damage.

Reports that Clarkson has had ‘a percentage of his prostate taken out’ suggest he has undergone a procedure called ‘focal therapy’, a more targeted form of surgery which reduces the risks of side-effects but is not widely offered as standard on the NHS.

‘When caught early, you’re looking at close to everyone surviving, which reinforces why being aware of this disease, getting tested and early diagnosis is so important,’ adds James.

The first stage of diagnosis is a blood test. This looks for raised levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which can serve as a biological signal for the presence of a tumour. If there are indications, this is generally followed by an MRI scan and, if this shows abnormalities, a biopsy is conducted.

Myths around prostate tests can put many men off going for one.

‘There is a myth about digital rectal exams, or the finger in the backside,’ reassures James. ‘If you don’t have symptoms, that is not required. If you’re just going to have a blood test because you’re concerned about risk, there is no reason for you to have that procedure. So don’t let the fear of that put you off going to have a simple blood test.’

Indeed, partners often encourage men to get tested. It’s not hard to imagine that Clarkson’s feisty girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, cajoled him to getting his prostate checked after his heart scare last year, which led to him having stents fitted for blocked arteries.

James continues: ‘Perhaps because screening and routine tests are more common for women, we hear a lot of men say that wives or girlfriends encouraged them to get tested.

‘There are challenges for loved ones when a man is told he has cancer. There’s always uncertainty until you have a full diagnosis and treatment plan and, if caught late, treatments are typically for life and will likely involve some form of hormone treatment, which unfortunately has side-effects.’

For partners, he has this message: ‘Look out for the signs and symptoms and encourage your men to get tested if you’re worried. Just doing it maybe once a year, or every couple of years, can increase your chance of catching it early, rather than when it’s spread.’

Indeed the NHS will be braced for a surge in inquiries about the disease, given that visits to the NHS prostate cancer symptoms page increased by 672 per cent in the 48 hours after Sir Chris Hoy revealed that his cancer was terminal in October 2024.

Here, James explains how at risk you are and how to recognise the signs…

You’ve had your 50th birthday

‘If you’re a man over the age of 50, you are more likely to get prostate cancer. That is a key risk factor. As you’re getting close to 50, start considering prostate cancer and be aware of it. If you are over 50 in the UK, you are entitled to a simple PSA blood test, so if you are concerned, go to your GP and ask for that. It could save your life.’

Your mother or sister has had ovarian or breast cancer

‘If you’ve had a father or a brother with prostate cancer, or multiple relatives, that puts you into a high-risk group. For that reason, it is important to know your family history and find out if you have a family member who has, or had, prostate cancer. This risk factor also extends to female family members who have had breast or ovarian cancer. If these factors apply to you, your risk can more than double, so I would encourage you to speak to a healthcare professional from the age of around 45.

‘Ethnicity also increases risk. Black men have a higher risk than white men so, again, from 45, you should consider talking to a healthcare professional about a blood test.’

You get up more often in the night

‘At first, there are often no symptoms for prostate cancer, which is why it’s important that people are aware of this disease and whether they fall into the high-risk categories mentioned here. One indication, however, can be getting up to pee more frequently, for example if you normally get up twice a night and suddenly that becomes three or four. It is more about a change of patterns, rather than if you’ve always got up several times in the night.’

It’s harder to pee

‘Likewise, changes in urine flow can also be an indication. This can include interrupted flow, finding it difficult to start urinating, having a weak flow or having difficulty while peeing. This is because, as the cancer starts to grow in the prostate, it constricts the urethra, which is the tube that urine flows through.’

Problems in bed

‘Both erectile dysfunction and low libido are another potential indicator of prostate cancer, although they can also be signs of other health issues including high blood pressure, anxiety and stress. If these are your only symptoms, the probability that they are being caused by prostate cancer will be low. They may be a linked symptom but typically you don’t find them in isolation. However, they are still something you should see your doctor about.’

You’ve noticed blood in your urine and/or semen

‘These can be symptoms of prostate cancer, but they can also be symptoms of something else. Either way, they certainly warrant an appointment with your doctor.’

You’re heavier than you used to be

‘While nothing has yet been proven to link obesity with prostate cancer, being overweight creates a higher risk of cancer generally and Prostate Cancer Research has recently funded studies into obesity and prostate cancer, looking at the impact obesity has on the prostate cancer itself.’

You drink and smoke

‘Neither are signs of prostate cancer in themselves, but, if you do end up being diagnosed, the fitter and healthier you are, the better your chances of recovering from treatments. For this reason, I would encourage people to eat a healthy, balanced diet, don’t smoke, and keep alcohol consumption moderate. The healthier you are, the more treatments will be available to you.’
