Embattled Congressman Faces High-Stakes Clash with Jon Ossoff Amid Scandal Allegations

0

A Georgia Congressman, backed by former President Donald Trump and no stranger to controversy, has emerged victorious in the state’s Senate GOP primary runoff. This win positions him to take on a prominent Democratic contender.

Rep. Mike Collins successfully defeated Derek Dooley, a former football coach, in Tuesday night’s election, according to projections by NBC News.

Before the votes were cast, Collins was heavily favored, with prediction market Kalshi giving him a 90 percent chance of winning. As the results started to pour in, Collins maintained an 8-point lead over Dooley with roughly half the votes counted.

However, Collins’ campaign has not been without its challenges. Insiders from the White House political circle have shown some reluctance regarding Trump’s endorsement of Collins, given the controversy surrounding him.

Allegations have surfaced about Collins’ former chief of staff, who purportedly hired his girlfriend for $10,000 in work that other staff members couldn’t identify. Moreover, his current chief of staff was reportedly involved in a chat group with white nationalists and anti-Semites. Additionally, a past intern and campaign staffer openly identified as a racist.

Collins has also been accused of peddling ‘racist’ social media posts, specifically after he circulated a video in 2024 of a college student making monkey sounds and gestures at a black female student with the caption, ‘taking care of business.’

And Republicans are concerned because incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, 39, has surged in polls and heralded as a possible 2028 presidential candidate after a series of rousing speeches that have eviscerated Trump and electrified his party base.

Trump threw his support behind the Congressman in a last-minute endorsement announced on Monday, all but formally cementing Collins as the Republican nominee.

Some in Trump’s orbit have raised alarm over Collins’ hardline stance on abortion – the Congressman said in 2022 he supported no exceptions, even for rape, incest or when a mother’s life is at risk.

A major Democratic super PAC dubbed Collins ‘an opposition researcher’s dream.’

‘He treats Congress like a money-making scheme for his family business, an ethics-free zone, and a conspiracy theory clearinghouse – sometimes all in the same week,’ said Lauren French, a spokeswoman for Senate Majority PAC after Collins was crowned the nominee.

Ossoff, meanwhile, is widely seen as a next-generation leader of the Democratic Party after his surprising 2021 election win over then-incumbent Republican David Perdue.

The Senator has also become one of the best fundraisers in the country, entering the general election cycle with over $32 million in his campaign coffers.

Collins, by contrast, has just over $1 million in campaign cash on hand, per his latest federal filings.

Polls heading into the November general election show Ossoff with an edge over Collins.

The path to victory for Collins in the general election treads through difficult terrain.

Though Trump won Georgia by two points in 2024, the state is still seen as a battleground that has flipped back and forth between the two parties.

Ossoff, meanwhile, is the only Democratic Senator who is up for reelection in a state that Trump won, meaning the GOP has their target set on him to flip the state red.

Independent Film ‘Burt’ Illuminates Parkinson’s Journey with Heartfelt Humor and Hope

0

In Los Angeles, a modestly budgeted film with a tight production schedule is shining a spotlight on the life of a real-life musician while also contributing to a charitable cause.

The film, titled “Burt,” centers around Burt Berger, a musician living with Parkinson’s disease. The creators of this project, Joe Burke and Oliver Cooper, first encountered Berger several years ago during one of his performances at a Malibu restaurant. Captivated by his story, they decided to bring it to the screen.

“He’s got a beautiful personality, a beautiful soul, and makes beautiful music,” Burke expressed. “Oliver and I immediately felt a connection with him. Over the years, I grew to know him, almost as if I were gathering material for a documentary. I kept wondering, ‘Who is this man?’ He moved to Los Angeles in 1974 to chase his musical dreams, but he never quite broke through, never recorded an album. When we filmed, he was 69, and I realized, ‘The world needs to meet Burt Berger.'”

Burke and Cooper not only co-wrote the screenplay but also co-produced the film, skillfully intertwining Berger’s true experiences with fictionalized storytelling.

Despite the constraints of a limited budget and a compressed timeline, the film successfully came to fruition.

“I said, ‘$7,000 is what I have to spend on this movie, can we do it?’ And he’s, like, ‘$7,000, seven days, let’s go!’” Cooper said

“And two months later, we were on set making the movie!” Burke added.

Cooper said the production operated with a very small crew.

“We only had a three-person crew. We had the sound guy, we had Joe running around second camera. Obviously, he’s not getting paid. And then we had our DP who was getting gas money,” Cooper said.

The film highlights both Berger’s life and his determination to continue creating music despite his diagnosis. A portion of the film’s proceeds will be donated to causes related to Parkinson’s disease.

“This is Burt, this is his story and he just happens to have Parkinson’s and he’s not going to let that define him,” Cooper said. “And he’s not going to let that beat him. And I think that’s the beauty of it.”

The film also reflects the filmmakers’ sense of accomplishment.

“We all want to feel like we did something that we can really hang our hat on. And I feel like with this movie, we finally did,” Burke said.

“I can die a happy man,” he added.

“Burt” is now available on digital, and its music, along with the film’s score, is expected to be released next month.

West Wilson’s Heartfelt Confession: The Unexpected Moment He First Told Amanda Batula ‘I Love You

Last summer, during the filming of Season 10 of “Summer House,” West Wilson confessed his love to Amanda Batula for the first time.

This heartfelt admission resurfaced during “Summer House: The Aftermath,” where Wilson engaged in a candid conversation with Batula’s separated spouse, Kyle Cooke.

Cooke, who had previously expressed his doubts about his former partner’s decisions, probed Wilson, asking, “Do you genuinely feel prepared to settle down in a committed, faithful relationship?”

Wilson, a sports journalist, affirmed confidently, “Yes, I do.”

Pressing further, the creator of Loverboy inquired if Wilson truly loved Batula. Wilson not only confirmed his feelings but also reminisced about the moment he first declared them to her.

“I mean yeah. I said ‘I love you’ that night I left your guys’ room to her.”

Wilson was referring to a heated episode of the Bravo show in which he comforted Batula after Cooke screamed expletives at her in a blowout fight while they were still married.

In the August 2025 scene, Wilson can be seen walking into Cooke and Batula’s room at night, with the latter in bed alone. He says, “Love you, OK? Text me if you need anything.”

“I really care about her a f–k ton,” the Missouri native insisted to Cooke.

Despite the revelation, Wilson maintained that things didn’t turn romantic between him and the swimsuit designer until February.

“I get everyone wants to go back and watch the show and be like, ‘They were hooking up.’ We weren’t,” he said.

“I haven’t gotten to the point where I’ve told her or myself that I’m in love or not,” Wilson further explained. “But I do love her and have. I have cared about her for a long time. And it’s hard to say that right to your face.”

He also said that he hopes Cooke will see the way he cares for Batula and that it will “at least lighten the worry” he feels for his estranged wife.

“No matter how this shakes out, I appreciate you talking to me today,” he concluded.

Wilson previously shared that he and and his former friend “made a lot of progress” during their three-hour conversation, which took place weeks after the Season 10 reunion wrapped filming.

“I’m not gonna say [things are] good,” Wilson clarified on a May episode of his and Sophie Cunningham’s “Show Me Something” podcast. “Like, nothing’s perfect right now.”

“It was obviously awkward and weird to start, but … it was not a gunfight,” Wilson shared with listeners. “It was very calm and peaceful. [We were] trying to hear each other and get to a better place.”

Wilson, 31, and Batula, 34, confirmed their secret relationship in March — just two months after she and Cooke announced their separation.

Although the pair have maintained that there was no overlap with their relationship and any others, Cooke accused Batula of having an “emotional affair” with Wilson during their marriage after watching back Season 10.

However, Batula vehemently denied the accusation when confronted by Cooke in April.

Batula and Wilson not only betrayed the trust of Cooke with their secret romance, but also their co-star Ciara Miller — who was Batula’s BFF and previously dated Wilson.

While Cooke seems to be on the path to forgiving both Batula and West, Miller made it clear she wants to cut them both off for good.

Although the cast for Season 11 is still unclear, Wilson was reportedly “not picked up” by production as filming starts over Fourth of July weekend.

Unlock Muscle Growth After 60: Try These 6 Effective Bodyweight Exercises

0

Achieving significant fitness results doesn’t always require gym equipment; sometimes, your body weight is all you need.

While dumbbells are a popular option for improving muscle tone due to their comprehensive range of motion and ability to engage smaller stabilizing muscles, there’s more than one path to success. We consulted with an expert who recommends six bodyweight exercises designed to help you build lean muscle. So, why should you consider bodyweight training?

“For individuals over 60, muscle development is less about lifting the heaviest weights and more about maintaining a consistent and progressive challenge,” states Karen Ann Canham, the CEO and founder of Karen Ann Wellness. As a Board-Certified Wellness Coach and Nervous System Specialist with nearly two decades in the wellness industry, she explains, “When executed with proper form and intensity, bodyweight exercises can effectively maintain and enhance muscle mass while reducing joint stress compared to some conventional weight-training techniques.”

Bodyweight exercises are particularly beneficial for enhancing joint mobility, balance, and functional movement, all of which are crucial as you age. Focusing on these areas helps prevent injuries, counters the natural decline in muscle mass, and ensures you can effortlessly manage daily activities.

Bodyweight workouts are excellent in boosting joint mobility, balance, and functional movement. All of these are essential to focus on as you age to prevent injury, keep up with the natural loss of muscle that occurs, and seamlessly perform daily tasks.

“I chose these exercises because they train the major muscle groups most responsible for maintaining mobility, balance, posture, and independence after 60. They also mimic real-world movements, making the strength gains highly functional,” Canham tells us. “Muscle growth occurs when a muscle is challenged beyond its current capacity. While dumbbells add external load, bodyweight exercises use a person’s own body mass as resistance.”

Incline Pushups

“Incline pushups (wall, counter, or bench) build strength in the chest, shoulders, and triceps with adjustable difficulty,” says Canham.

  1. Use a stable surface like a wall, countertop, plyometric box, or workout bench, and place your hands on it, shoulder-width apart.
  2. Walk your legs back so you’re at a straight incline from your head to your heels.
  3. Keep your legs together and rise onto the balls of your feet. Engage your core and keep your gaze forward.
  4. Bend your elbows to lower your body until your chest lines up with your elbows.
  5. Return back to straight arms.
  6. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps.

Sit-to-Stands

“Sit-to-stands (chair squats) strengthen the quadriceps, glutes, and hips while reinforcing a critical daily movement pattern,” Canham points out.

  1. Begin seated at the front of a sturdy chair, feet under your knees.
  2. Lean forward just a bit.
  3. Try to stand up without using your knees, hands, or additional support.
  4. Use control to slowly sit back down.
  5. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps.

Step-Ups

“Step-ups strengthen the legs and glutes while improving balance and coordination,” Canham says.

  1. Begin by standing tall, facing a workout bench.
  2. Hold an optional dumbbell in each hand.
  3. Place your left foot firmly onto the surface, keeping your core engaged and chest tall.
  4. Press through your left heel to lift your body until your left leg is straight and you’re standing on the surface.
  5. Use control to lower back to the start position.
  6. Repeat on the other side.
  7. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps on each leg.

Glute Bridges

“Glute bridges target the glutes, hamstrings, and core while supporting pelvic stability,” Canham tells us.

  1. Begin by lying flat on your back with bent knees and feet hip-width apart on the mattress, arms at your sides with palms pressing into the surface.
  2. Press through your heels to lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Squeeze your buttocks, holding at the top for 2 to 3 seconds.
  4. Lower your hips back to the start position.
  5. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps.

Bird-Dog

“Bird-dogs strengthen the core, spinal stabilizers, and hips while improving posture,” Canham says.

  1. Start on all fours in a tabletop position.
  2. Slowly extend your left arm and right leg, keeping your core braced.
  3. Hold for 2 seconds before returning to the start position.
  4. Switch sides, continuing to alternate.
  5. Perform 2 sets of 8 to 10 reps on each side.

Wall Sit

“Wall sits build muscular endurance in the quadriceps and improve lower-body strength without excessive joint stress,” Canham says.

  1. Stand tall with your back pressed against a wall and arms extended ahead of you.
  2. Slide down until your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle as if you’re sitting in a chair.
  3. Perform 2 to 3 holds of 20 to 45 seconds.

Amanda Batula Sets the Record Straight: Debunking West Wilson’s Romance Rumors

0

Amanda Batula has openly challenged West Wilson’s narrative about the origins of their relationship during the special episode, “Summer House: The Aftermath.”

In a conversation with Lindsay Hubbard, which took place a month after the filming of the Season 10 reunion, Batula asserted that Wilson was the one who “pursued” her, contradicting his claims.

However, Hubbard recounted a different version of events during Tuesday’s bonus episode.

“He confided in Ciara [Miller] that you were the one infatuated with him, claiming you had a crush on him, and that nothing physical had occurred at that stage,” Hubbard, 39, revealed. “This was as of March 6.”

Batula, 34, expressed her disbelief, asking Hubbard, “He said I had a crush on him and was obsessed with him?”

When Hubbard nodded her head, Batula laughed and said, “That’s such f–ing bulls–t. That’s funny.”

Batula claimed Wilson, 31, “was actively texting” her in group chats to hang out, but she always turned down the invites. She even showed Hubbard the messages.

In a text exchange from Nov. 9, Wilson asked Batula and her pal Katie DeLuca to come to a bar, but Batula responded, “You’re gonna hate me I’m not making it. I leave at 7 am tomorrow for a cast trip and go right to BravoCon.”

Wilson again asked Batula to hang out in a group chat on Nov. 22, but Batula replied that she was “laying low” at home with her mom and her dogs.

Batula told Hubbard she eventually went to Wilson’s apartment on Jan. 17 with other people.

“We were there, we had pizza. It was weird in my mind,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘I don’t know why we’re here. This is weird why we’re not out.’”

Batula said after announcing her split from husband Kyle Cooke that same month, she wanted to be more social, so she started hanging out more with Wilson and his friends.

Eventually, Batula said she started to wonder if she had real feelings for Wilson.

When Hubbard asked Batula if Wilson “manipulated her,” Batula responded, “Those are not my words.”

“Well those are my words,” Hubbard said. “I’m happy to own them. Absolutely.”

Later in their conversation, Batula admitted she was “selfish” for pursuing a romance with Wilson despite him previously dating her former BFF Miller.

“It overwhelmed me, this feeling of just someone caring about me… a guy,” she shared.

Batula partly blamed her relationship with Wilson on her “awful” marriage to Cooke, 43.

“I made some poor decisions. I was in such a s–tty relationship,” she explained. “Lost myself completely. Didn’t recognize myself anymore. Was a shell of myself. I just wasn’t me anymore.”

“And going out, I felt young and in my 20s and fun again,” Batula continued. “And I think maybe I confused going out with West and falling in love with myself again with feelings.”

Batula said spending time with Wilson gave her “a euphoric feeling,” but made it hard for her to “think rationally or logically through any of that.”

The “Summer House” bonus episode, which filmed in the weeks after the April 23 reunion, also featured sit-downs between Wilson and Cooke, and Miller and Wilson’s ex Meija Moreno.

Wilson and Batula are on the outs with their co-stars for their secret relationship that they came clean about in March following weeks of speculation.

The couple have insisted their connection began in February and didn’t overlap with her marriage or any other relationships, but the rest of the castmates have poked several holes in their romance timeline.

Following the reunion, news broke that Wilson is not returning for Season 11, which starts filming July 4th weekend.

Wilson has not spoken out about being ousted from the show.

Batula, for her part, is a cast member on the spinoff “In the City” alongside Cooke and Hubbard. It’s unclear if she’ll return to “Summer House.”

The Surprising Truth Behind Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO’s Divorce Revealed

0

In 2015, country music sensation Jelly Roll, then living out of his van and having faced incarceration nearly 40 times, encountered his future wife at a Las Vegas concert.

Bunnie XO, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, was at the time earning over $100,000 a night as a high-end escort in the city known for its nightlife.

Fast forward a decade, and Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, has climbed the ladder to become a leading figure in country music, boasting three Grammy Awards under his belt.

Alisa, on the other hand, left her escorting career behind in 2023 to embrace her role as a dedicated stepmother to Jelly Roll’s two children from past relationships: 18-year-old Bailee Ann and 9-year-old Noah Buddy.

Despite challenges, including various battles with addiction and a confessed months-long affair by Jelly Roll, the couple has demonstrated resilience and an ability to weather any storm.

That was until Monday night, when it was revealed the singer, 41, had dramatically filed for divorce from Bunnie, 46, last month in Tennessee, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail.

Fans and insiders alike were shocked at the news.

‘You couldn’t tell he was going through something. If the divorce was on his mind, you’d never have known,’ a source told the Daily Mail.

But other insiders can now reveal that Jelly Roll’s reasoning for ending the marriage was myriad.

Most obvious has been the singer’s very public shift toward Christianity. After winning a Grammy for best contemporary country album in February, he held a Bible aloft and told the gathered crowd that, ‘Jesus is not owned by one political party. Jesus is not owned by no music label.’

This ardent newfound faith and purposeful distancing from his past substance abuse and jailtime, say insiders, no longer necessarily aligns with his wife’s former escorting and online sex work.

And while Bunnie may have left the most extreme aspects of that life behind, her podcast – titled ‘Dumb Blonde’ and often used to discuss not-so-safe-for-work topics such as her marital sex life – as well as her raunchy social media posts, have begun to cause problems at home.

In fact, just hours before the divorce came to light, Bunnie had stripped down to a satin bralette and matching thong on Monday and posed for a sexy snap which she shared to Instagram.

‘There is just such a conflict in what’s going on. He’s preaching this Christian way of life. She’s posing mostly naked and talking about porn and penises on her podcast. At every turn, she’s just kind of embarrassing him and wrecking every PR narrative that they’re trying to create. This is the talk of the town [in Nashville],’ said another insider.

It is certainly no secret that contemporary Christian music has reached massive mainstream popularity, and nowhere more so than in the home of country music, Nashville, where Jelly Roll and Bunnie couple own a $6 million mansion.

‘There’s so much money in [Christian music], but [his renewed faith] is just an act in my opinion,’ a source said.

‘He saw a lot of money in this market and told Bunnie to get it together. But she wouldn’t stay in line and it is destroying his brand.

‘She just wants to be what she is. She’s been an escort and in porn and gets her validation and audience from being in a G-string. That’s been her life but now, suddenly, he’s a preacher and she’s a preacher’s wife.’

Beyond these clashes over differing ‘lifestyles’, the couple are also said to have had disagreements about whether to expand their family.

Bunnie told fans in 2019 that they had been undergoing IVF after discovering that he fallopian tubes are blocked. The treatment was seemingly unsuccessful and Bunnie later revealed that she and her husband had sought out a surrogate, but again to no avail.

Now, an insider says: ‘Both [she and Jelly Roll] wanted more children, but disagreements over timing and his increasingly demanding career have created ongoing tension. Ultimately, he felt it wasn’t wise to move forward with having more kids when the stability of their relationship remained uncertain, and they seemed destined to keep repeating the same cycle.

‘Their relationship has always been passionate but turbulent, with frequent almost-breakups followed by intense reconciliations.’

Indeed, Jelly Roll and Bunnie’s 10-year marriage endured its fair share of scandal and personal upheaval.

At his fattest, for instance, the famously large singer weighed in at a gargantuan 550 lbs. Since 2022, he has shed nearly 300 of those pounds – and all without the help of weight-loss drugs.

He felt he had to lose the weight, he said last year, because ‘I could feel myself dying’ and had suffered serious heart issues.

A source told the Daily Mail that Jelly Roll's public shift toward Christianity created a 'conflict' in his relationship with Bunnie (pictured in November 2022)

Meanwhile, in her recent memoir, Bunnie shared how she and Jelly Roll initially bonded over their equally sordid pasts.

She had been working as a ‘high class’ escort making upwards of $100,000 a night. She had also dabbled in cocaine, Xanax and crystal meth, and admitted to spending a staggering $2 million on drugs during her 20s.

Bunnie had been married twice before, while Jelly was struggling to gain custody of his then seven-year-old daughter Bailee Ann from a previous relationship.

He had also been arrested some 40 times since the age of 14, having been convicted in 2003 for felony robbery and again for dealing drugs in 2008.

But the chaos didn’t end there, with Jelly Roll enduring several years of heavy cocaine addiction before finally getting sober in 2017.

‘I had to learn that you could drink alcohol without doing cocaine,’ he later said.

But despite that sobriety, in 2018 and only two years into his marriage, Jelly Roll had an affair with a previous ex-girlfriend.

As a result, he and Bunnie briefly split, before she forgave him and took him back. She wrote in her memoir that it would ‘take years for me to put the affair aside.’

For his part, the singer has called the infidelity ‘one of the worst moments’ of his life.

And as recently as February this year, the singer gushed over his wife, saying he ‘would have ended up dead or in jail’ without her.

Clearly, those feelings have now changed.

But, for all the apparent disagreements between the couple, one rumor that insiders were particularly keen to put to bed was the suggestion that Bunnie had been unfaithful.

Last month, eagle-eyed fans noticed a video Bunnie posted on Instagram of her and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger hugging and chatting backstage at a concert.

Alongside the video, Bunnie wrote: ‘The moment I finally got to be back in his arms.’

‘Swoon,’ she also added, with a heart-eye emoji.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, those captions prompted some speculation Tuesday that Bunnie had already moved on with Kroeger, who was previously married to singer Avril Lavigne.

However, an insider told the Daily Mail that there is ‘quite literally zero truth’ to any rumors of a relationship with Kroeger, and if anyone has been unfaithful it is Jelly Roll – back in those early torrid days of their marriage.

‘He was perhaps much more unfaithful than than he let on early in the relationship,’ the insider said.

As for what’s next, the source added: ‘You reach a day where you realize maybe I didn’t love this person. I loved the chase and the ability to hustle and grind together. But now everything has slowed down and they’ve had time to really see it.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO for comment.

Authorities reported that a shooting incident at a Delaware hospital on Tuesday left two individuals injured, leading to a significant police presence and an ongoing search for the shooter.

The incident unfolded at Wilmington Hospital, situated in Wilmington, and has drawn the attention of local law enforcement.

Details regarding the condition of the two victims have yet to be disclosed.

“Currently, officers have identified two individuals with gunshot wounds,” stated the Wilmington Police Department in an official release. “The hospital is under lockdown, and we urge the public to steer clear of the vicinity.”

Paul Pierce Receives Probation Sentence in DUI Case

0

On Tuesday, Paul Pierce reached an agreement with Los Angeles prosecutors, bringing an end to his DUI case, as revealed by court documents reviewed by The California Post.

The former Boston Celtics star entered a plea of nolo contendere to a misdemeanor charge of wet reckless driving. As a result, he received a sentence of 12 months probation.

In addition to probation, Pierce was fined $375 and required to attend several educational courses, including a MADD Victim Impact Program, according to the court documents.

Before this plea deal was reached, Pierce was facing more serious charges. Authorities had accused him of driving under the influence and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08% or higher, after allegedly discovering him asleep and intoxicated in an SUV on a busy Los Angeles highway on October 7, 2025.

Following Pierce’s plea, both of these charges have been dismissed, as per the court records.

Pierce — an Inglewood native — was accused by the California Highway Patrol of passing out in his ride after officers closed down a portion of the 101 freeway to attend to a multi-car crash.

When lanes reopened, they alleged found Pierce knocked out in the driver’s seat and “noted signs of alcohol impairment” during an ensuing investigation.

Pierce, 48, was ultimately arrested, though in a statement he posted on Threads days after the incident, he said he merely fell asleep while waiting for traffic to clear.

“Imagine being stuck in stand still traffic for 45 mins and falling asleep 🤦🏾‍♂️ I took this picture that night because I never been in stand still traffic for this long,” Pierce posted Thursday to Threads. “I’m old, I’m tired, and I fell asleep 🤷🏾‍♂️I’m good y’all thanks for the love.”

Messages seeking comment from Pierce’s attorney as well as the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office on Tuesday afternoon were not immediately returned.

In a thrilling Group I match, the French national team triumphed over Senegal with a 3-1 victory, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from their captain, Kylian Mbappe.

Senegal initially outshone the French side in the first half, demonstrating superior play. However, the momentum shifted dramatically after halftime. France’s resurgence was sparked by substitute Bradley Barcola, who found the back of the net, setting the stage for Mbappe’s decisive contributions.

Mbappe, with his clinical finishing, etched his name into the history books by becoming France’s all-time leading goalscorer. In the 66th minute, he netted his 58th goal for the national team, surpassing Olivier Giroud’s previous record. This milestone came shortly after Ibrahim Mbaye managed a consolation goal for Senegal.

Adding to his accomplishments, Mbappe’s brace elevated his World Cup goal tally to 14, surpassing legends like Lionel Messi and Just Fontaine, and equalling Germany’s Gerd Muller. He now sits just two goals shy of Miroslav Klose’s record.

“I play to leave a mark on my country’s history and to help my team win the World Cup,” Mbappe told reporters.

“I don’t think we’re fully up and running yet. But it’s always good to start a tournament with a win. It gives you a bit more peace of mind, even though you’re never really relaxed at a World Cup.”

Senegal had started with far greater intensity and gave France early problems through Nicolas Jackson and Ismaila Sarr, while Deschamps’ side struggled to find rhythm despite dominating possession.

Jackson almost opened the scoring after a lightning counter-attack down the left, driving into the box and firing a low shot against the post before the ball ricocheted off goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s heel and went out for a corner.
