Tragic Final Days: ‘Alaskan Bush People’ Star Matt Brown Battled Heartbreak and Truck Troubles Before Untimely Passing

0

Matt Brown, known for his role on “Alaskan Bush People,” was reportedly experiencing significant emotional distress in the period before his passing, as revealed by a family friend to Page Six.

Tragically, Brown was found deceased in the Okanogan River in Washington over the weekend. His brother, Bear, disclosed that the cause of death was suicide.

Page Six had a conversation with Chay Moore from Stardog Champion K9 on Thursday. Moore, a close friend of the Brown family who also took part in recovering Matt’s body from the river, shared insights into Matt’s struggles. He mentioned that he had seen Matt less than three weeks before the tragic discovery and noted that the reality TV star was under significant stress.

“He was having trouble with his pickup truck, which added to his stress. The vehicle wouldn’t start, preventing him from embarking on a planned trip,” Moore explained.

Moore further added, “He had recently ended a relationship with his girlfriend, and all these issues seemed to overwhelm him simultaneously.”

Matt was dating a woman named Jamie prior to his death, and while Moore said he didn’t know the exact time frame of their breakup, he said he knew “it was definitely on his mind” on the particular day he saw Matt.

“He had been walking and riding buses and, you know, from town to town to, to survive,” he also said of the hardships Matt was facing after his truck broke down. “He was using buses and stuff.”

Moore said Jamie was instrumental in finding Matt’s body.

“Matt’s girlfriend was really, really pushing us hard to get it moving and get out there on that water,” he shared. “I think she had a notion of where she thought he was, you know, in her mind, I think.”

“She basically spearheaded the searchers on that river,” he added.

In a TikTok video last week, Bear said that Matt was “going through a really bad breakup” with “a girl he really liked.”

“I guess he had been drinking too much. I don’t know all the details to it,” he said.

He also said that Matt “has been struggling for a long time with alcohol and with drugs,” but he insisted the family did not “shun” him. Instead, Matt allegedly “didn’t want anything to do with the family.”

In Bear’s video over the weekend confirming Matt’s death he shared, “I didn’t think he would hurt himself, it does look like the injury is self-inflicted.”

Matt and Bear’s youngest brother, Noah, also confirmed that they found Matt’s body in a river and said he was the one who identified him.

The Brown family appeared on Discovery Channel’s “Alaskan Bush People” between 2014 and 2019. The reality series followed the family of nine as they lived off the grid in the wilderness.

ICE Officers and Staff Discuss Increasing Risks: ‘Am I Going to Die?

0

Two officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and a staff member have been recognized for their bravery during a sniper attack at the Dallas ICE Field Office in 2025. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin presented them with medals for their courageous actions during the incident, where a sniper fired 17 shots from a nearby rooftop into the facility.

In an exclusive discussion with Fox News, the honored individuals reflected on the turmoil of that day and expressed concerns about the increasing threats faced by ICE personnel nationwide.

Marco Solis, a deportation officer, described the harrowing moment when the attack began. He was at his desk when bullets started striking the building. “I got hit in the head with something,” Solis recounted, explaining that it was debris from sheetrock as bullets penetrated several walls. Initially unsure of the source, it wasn’t until he saw a second bullet tumble across the roof that he realized they were in the midst of an active shooter situation.

“I got hit in the head with something,” Solis said. It was actually debris, sheetrock from the bullet penetrating multiple walls. Caught me off guard. I didn’t know where it came from, right? You just hear a snap come through the door or through the window, the walls. And it wasn’t until that second round came through the wall that I actually watched it tumble on the roof that I realized that we were getting, we had an active shooter on our hands.”

The officers said the attack quickly turned into a life-or-death rescue mission as detainees were struck by gunfire.

Andres Goche, also a deportation officer, said he and others worked to pull wounded detainees to safety. “It was Mr. Goche here that actually physically pulled those victims out of that van, that transport van, and brought them into our processing area, setting up that triage area for us,” Solis added.

“It is a concern that goes through every law enforcement officer,” Goche said. “Am I going to die? Am I gonna get injured? Am i gonna… It comes with the job. It’s a hazard that comes with a job, right?” Goche said.

The recognition comes as ICE officers have faced threats, violence and growing hostility at facilities across the country.

“This is a new reality for every deportation officer, every ICE employee that’s out there throughout the nation,” Goche said. “It’s something that we’ve come to terms with. The best hope that we can hold onto at the moment is to continue to rely on each other and emphasize the importance of our training.”

Solis, who has spent more than 18 years in federal service, said he has never seen the environment become this dangerous.

“I think everybody in the law enforcement profession understands the risks and accepts them,” Solis said. “I don’t think I’ve witnessed it be this violent or this volatile in my entire 18 years of federal service. It’s a way of life for us now. It’s just a reality that we’ve had to come to terms with.”

The officers also addressed misconceptions about ICE, saying officers and their families are increasingly being targeted simply for enforcing federal immigration law.

“Our families, especially our families, shouldn’t have to carry the burden or barrage of threats thrown at them simply because their significant other, their loved one, their family member, is an ICE officer just enforcing the immigration laws of the United States that are enacted by Congress,” Solis said.

Goche said much of the anger toward ICE is fueled by misinformation and agitators.

“These are paid actors. They’re paid individuals with one purpose, which is to cause disturbance, to agitate, and to try to derail us from our mission priorities,” Goche said “I want to give my message across to the American people. We’re not here, we’re not the bad guys,” he continued. “We’re officers, we’re human beings, we have families, we have the same interests as many other people out there in this beautiful country.”

Christopher Pyne, an enforcement removal assistant, said the actions of the officers that day showed the humanity behind the badge.

“These men were willing to risk their lives to save one of our detained. Like, we’re human beings, and we recognize that, you know everyone that we deal with are human beings,” Pyne said.

Solis said officers do not do the job for awards or recognitionZ

“It’s humbling. I don’t believe anybody does it for any awards or accolades or recognition. It’s just the right thing to do, whether anybody’s looking or anybody’s gonna recognize you for it,” Solis said.

Revitalize Your Core: 5 Dynamic Standing Workouts for Those Over 60 That Outshine Planks

As we age, maintaining a robust and functional core becomes increasingly paramount, particularly beyond the age of 60. Given that muscle mass naturally declines after turning 30, a strong core is vital for preserving an active and independent lifestyle. We consulted with an expert who recommends five standing exercises that can effectively strengthen the core, offering benefits that surpass those of traditional planks for individuals over 60.

Regie Tiu, a Licensed Physical Therapist based in New York and the Founder and CEO of Restore Plus PT, emphasizes the advantages of standing core exercises for older adults. “Standing core exercises are beneficial for people over 60 because they enhance functional stability, which is crucial in daily life. Our everyday activities don’t typically involve lying on the floor. Additionally, some individuals over 60 may face challenges such as arthritis or past surgeries that make floor exercises difficult,” Tiu explains.

After the age of 60, strengthening your core should be a main priority in your workout. Since we all start to lose muscle each year after hitting 30, ensuring your core is strong means continuing to live an active, independent life. We spoke with an expert who suggests five standing workouts you can do to restore a stronger core better than planks after 60.

“Standing core exercises are good for people over 60 because they train functional stability, which is more important in real life. We don’t do our daily activity by lying down on the floor. And some people over 60 may have arthritis or surgeries that make it difficult for them to get down on the floor,” explains Regie Tiu, a Licensed Physical Therapist in New York and the Founder and CEO of Restore Plus PT.

Standing Paloff Press

“The standing Pallof press uses the core and the obliques to resist rotation. This is important because we do a lot of rotation activities in our daily lives,” explains Tiu.

  1. Stand tall, perpendicular to an anchor point, with your feet hip-width apart and a soft bend in your knees.
  2. Hold the cable at chest level.
  3. Breathe out as you extend your arms ahead of you, resisting rotation.
  4. Return your arms back to the starting position.

Standing Oblique Crunch

“The standing oblique crunch works on lateral flexion and targets the obliques,” Tiu tells us.

  1. Begin standing tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and hands behind your head, elbows wide.
  2. Activate your core and lift your left knee toward your left elbow as you crunch your torso to the side, keeping your chest tall.
  3. Use control to lower.
  4. Lift your right knee toward your right elbow as you crunch your torso to the side.

Standing Dead Bug

“The standing dead bug trains anti-rotation and deep core control without spinal flexion. Also works on contralateral limb coordination,” Tiu tells us.

  1. Begin standing tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Brace your core.
  3. Lift one knee up to hip height while maintaining an upright torso.
  4. At the same time, reach your arms overhead.
  5. Slowly extend the lifted leg forward while lowering the opposite arm, reaching it ahead of you.
  6. Return the arm and head back to the start position.
  7. Switch sides.

Standing Bird Dog

“The standing bird dog works on the core, posterior chain (glutes and lower back), and one-leg balance at the same time. This is helpful for fall prevention,” Tiu explains.

  1. Begin standing tall with your feet hip-width and arms relaxed by your sides.
  2. Activate your core while maintaining a neutral spine.
  3. Shift your body weight onto one leg, maintaining a slight bend in your standing knee.
  4. Slightly hinge forward at the hips while lifting the opposite leg straight behind you.
  5. At the same time, reach the opposite arm forward ahead of you.
  6. Maintain level hips.
  7. Hold for a moment before returning to the start position.

Suitcase Carry Hold

“The suitcase carry hold works on lateral core strength and core, such as carrying a bag, groceries, or basically anything we hold one-handed,” Tiu says.

  1. Begin standing tall, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your side.
  2. Keep your feet hip-distance apart.
  3. Activate your core and keep your shoulders level.
  4. Stand still in place, holding the position.

Jennifer Aniston’s Heartfelt Letter to Matthew Perry Withdrawn from Auction: A Closer Look

0

A handwritten note from Jennifer Aniston to her late co-star Matthew Perry has been pulled from a forthcoming auction that features the actor’s personal memorabilia.

Heritage Auctions in Dallas is set to host a sale on June 5, showcasing numerous cherished items from the “Friends” actor’s collection. Highlights include a famous Banksy artwork and several suits previously worn by Perry.

On Wednesday, Heritage Auctions announced to The Independent that Aniston’s note will no longer be part of the auction lineup, though they did not disclose the reasoning behind its removal.

The letter from Aniston, reportedly written near the conclusion of their iconic TV series in 2004, was a message to her former co-star.

Within the note, the 57-year-old actress is said to have addressed Perry’s battles with addiction, expressing her pride in his journey.

‘Matty! Oh my God….How am [I] going to live without your light in my life on a daily basis?’ Aniston wrote, per The Independent.

‘His life literally depended on it. And boy did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard.’

Aniston finished her tribute with, ‘Matty, I love you so much and I know you are now completely at peace and out of any pain.

‘I talk to you every day… sometimes I can almost hear you saying “could you BE any crazier?” Rest little brother. You always made my day…’

On June 5, Heritage Auctions will be auctioning off an assortment of his belongings at its headquarters in Dallas, Texas and offered the Daily Mail a preview of the precious items.

Brian Chanes, Heritage Auctions’ senior director, Hollywood & entertainment, revealed the special role the belongings played in Perry’s life.

‘The outpour of enthusiasm and support and adoration for Matt has been amazing,’ Chanes told the Daily Mail.

The display contained the types of memorabilia a true Friends fan would treasure forever.

Originally titled Six of One, Perry’s belongings included an outline of the series before it was renamed Friends – a rare item describing the premise of the series and the ‘friends and lovers’ it set out to follow.

‘This was the name of Friends, Six of One, before it became Friends, but this is basically an outline, basically, “From the creators of Cheers and Frasier, you know, Six of One,”‘ Chanes said of the script.

‘”Six single people living in New York is about friends and lovers, IKEA furniture, cappuccino, bad date, Spanish soap operas, and Mr Potato Head,” but anyway, it just gives the rundown of it, and then here is a pilot.’

Outside of acting, Perry was also an avid tennis player who grew up playing the sport.

His rackets are among the possessions available for purchase, and their broken strings show the good use Perry got out of them.

‘He was heavily influenced by sports, especially tennis,’ Chanes explained. ‘He loved hockey too ’cause he was from Ottawa, but he felt particularly motivated by his idol Jimmy Connors.’

Magazines collected by Perry’s publicist also offer a snapshot into the Friends’ heyday.

‘I know they just look like regular magazines and plaques, but one of his publicists, his job… everything that he appeared in, he ended up getting him a copy. And so that’s what you see, a portion of it right here,’ Chanes said.

The auction boasts Banksy artworks projected to sell for more than a million, as well as an autographed Friends script donated by Warner Brothers already going for $16,000.

Yet Chanes stressed that the price point of numerous items was made with the fan who didn’t have loads of cash to splash in mind.

‘One thing I want to make clear for people, is that we have things for just a few $100 and we have things that are going to sell for maybe a million or more, that Banksy over there, the girl with the balloon.’

A set of VHS tapes from Perry’s collection are now available at $330 – a fraction of the millions the rare artworks will likely go for.

Perry battled addiction for many years, a struggle that intensified during his time on Friends, when he became one of the biggest stars of his generation as Chandler Bing.

His rise to fame alongside Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer on the iconic Friends sitcom was overshadowed by personal struggles.

Perry openly admitted that his addiction issues frequently interfered with his work during those years and he laid bare his struggles in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

Five people have since been convicted for their part in his overdose, including Perry’s drug counselor, his ‘Ketamine Queen’ drug dealer Jasveen Sangha, and two doctors.

On Wednesday, Perry’s one-time assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, who injected the Friends star ‘repeatedly’ with ketamine on the day he died, was sentenced to more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, causing death.

In addition to his 41-month prison sentence, Iwamasa was ordered to pay separate fines of $10,000 and $100, and be on supervised release for two years.

He must surrender to authorities by 12pm on July 17 to begin his sentence.

DCLM Daily Manna 4 June 2026 — Cancer Of The Mixed Multitude

DCLM Daily Manna 4 June 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Cancer Of The Mixed Multitude

TOPIC: Cancer Of The Mixed Multitude (DCLM Daily Manna 4 June 2026)

KEY VERSE: And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? – Numbers 11:4

TEXT: Numbers 11:1-6 (KJV)

1 And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

2 And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the Lord, the fire was quenched.

3 And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the Lord burnt among them.

4 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

There is an important truth in the Bulgarian proverb: “If you find yourself taking two steps forward and one step backwards, invariably it’s because you have mixed associations in your life.”

This was the case of the Jews who had the misfortune of travelling with a mixed multitude on a divinely ordered trip. The Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land was anything but smooth. The ungrateful and faithless attitude they exhibited from time to time not only prolonged their journey but also earned them divine wrath. One significant aspect of their misconduct is murmuring. In spite of the divine interventions they had, they complained about the discomfort and fatigue of prolonged travelling in the wilderness. This time, God showed His displeasure for their murmuring by sending an unusual fire that consumed the extremities of their camp.

The source of the disgruntlement is not hidden: the mixed multitude, a class of foreigners who accompanied the Israelites during their exodus from Egypt. They became constant instigators of trouble in the camp of Israel. Not long after, God’s fire of judgment against the murmurers was put out, the mixed multitude initiated a fresh complaint about their dietary preferences. They desired animal-based food and vegetable dainties that they enjoyed in Egypt. They loathed the manna by which they had been sustained for a long time. The mixed multitude lacked the understanding and grace of God’s people, and therefore, could not conform to divine demands.

Today’s church has a fair share of the scourge of the mixed multitude. The modern mixed multitude consists of professing Christians who are merely drawn to the glamour associated with the faith. They do not have the requisite grace or spiritual depth of genuine conversion. Like tares among the wheat, they have a form of godliness but deny its power. As in the case of Israel, the presence of such unconverted people in the church is a drawback. It is also eternally damning to be part of the mixed multitude. How we need to look out for the cancer of mixed multitude and deal with it before it festers on us.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The mixed multitude is a blight in the church.

Explosive Exchange: Al Green’s Unexpected Outburst Against Markwayne Mullin at DHS Hearing

0

Keeping track of every congressional race can be a daunting task, even for pollsters and data experts. However, the unexpected outcome of the late-May Texas primary runoff in the 18th Congressional District caught many by surprise, including myself. Longtime Democratic Representative Al Green, known for his stalwart opposition to Trump, did not manage to secure a win.

Green, who previously served the 9th District, decided to run in the 18th District after redistricting rendered his former seat more favorable to Republicans. Despite his history of advocating for Trump’s impeachment and his skillful, albeit controversial, use of racial issues in his political strategy, Green faced an unexpected challenge.

The 18th District already had a rising star in the form of 38-year-old Democrat Christian Menefee. Menefee had secured his position through a special election runoff in January, following the passing of Congressman Sylvester Turner. With a clear desire for new leadership evident among party voters this election cycle, Menefee’s appeal was undeniable. In a decisive victory, Menefee claimed 69.3 percent of the vote, effectively ending Green’s campaign, who garnered only 30.7 percent.

But the 18th already had a much younger Democrat in Congress, 38-year-old Christian Menefee, who won a special election runoff in January to replace deceased Congressman Sylvester Turner.  Since fresh blood seems to be what the party’s voters want this election cycle, Green, 78, was shown the door in a blowout runoff victory for Menefee, with 69.3 percent of the vote compared to Green’s 30.7 percent.

Intense Auction Competition Erupts for Marilyn Monroe’s Iconic Underwear

0

A fierce competition has ignited over Marilyn Monroe’s iconic bra, with eager collectors willing to spend more than $5,000 for this alluring artifact.

This 36C undergarment, hailing from the glamorous 1950s, is set to be auctioned off on Thursday alongside a collection of items once belonging to the Hollywood icon.

Initially, the bra’s bidding began at a modest $25, but it rapidly escalated into the thousands, far surpassing its initial estimate of $1,000 to $2,000. To date, the auction has already attracted 13 bids.

“It’s invaluable,” remarks Martin Nolan, the executive director and co-founder of Julien’s Auctions. “I anticipate many will hold off until Thursday to bid, and it’s likely to soar beyond $20,000. There’s a global fascination with her.”

Nolan further notes, “There’s a fixation on her figure,” recalling an instance when a previous auction of Monroe’s lingerie drew a request from a woman who wanted to smell it.

“People want to feel close to her and there’s nothing more personal and intimate. She created this brand and part of that brand is her breasts,” he said.

Also expected to cause a bidding war at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills at 10am Thursday, are the gates to the Brentwood home where Monroe tragically died by probable suicide.

The wood structures, seen in iconic news footage from the day the model was wheeled out of the home on a gurney, stayed with the house until 1984.

Monroe bought them on July 19, 1962 for $314 just a couple weeks before she died. “They weigh 2,000 pounds, they were in disrepair, they’ve been restored,” Nolan explained.

The bombshell’s make-up is also of particular interest; her lipstick has reached $7,000 in early bidding and the price is expected to shoot up much higher.

“Again, the brand of Marilyn, what color lipstick did she use? Which mascara did she wear?” asks Nolan. He adds, “The fascination is her beauty.”

The auction is being presented by Julien’s and TCM as part of 100 Years of Marilyn to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Probationer Detained for Alleged Involvement in Fraudulent Merchandise Return Scheme

Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities detained 41-year-old Jourdan Chasse Johnson on Monday night, accusing him of a fraudulent scheme involving purchases and returns at Best Buy. Johnson allegedly bought various products from the store, removed the original contents, and replaced them with unrelated items before seeking a refund.

According to a report from a Best Buy manager to the Gainesville Police Department, between April 25 and May 23, 2026, Johnson made several purchases, including a radar detector priced at $799.99, a drone for $1,599.00, two 360-degree cameras costing $630 and $464.99 respectively, and a laptop case valued at $104.95, totaling $3,598.93.

It is alleged that Johnson extracted the original items from their packaging and substituted them with miscellaneous materials such as wooden planks and clothing before sealing the boxes and returning them for refunds. The manager claims to have provided law enforcement with video and photographic documentation of these transactions, along with the purchase and refund receipts.

Following his arrest and after being read his Miranda rights, Johnson reportedly stated that he had returned the goods in their original packaging.

Johnson has been charged with engaging in a scheme to defraud under $20,000. He is on probation in another state (unspecified) on charges related to drugs and trafficking in stolen property, but he is being supervised in Gainesville. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $25,000 and ordered a mental health evaluation.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Detective Faces Arrest for Allegedly Brandishing Firearm at Colleague Over Microwaved Fish Incident at Police Station

0

A detective from South Carolina has been taken into custody and subsequently dismissed after an incident where he purportedly aimed his service weapon at a colleague within the police precinct. This altercation reportedly arose due to the officer’s displeasure over a coworker using the communal microwave to heat up fish.

Michael Debiase, aged 46, who served as a detective with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, faced arrest on June 2. He has been officially charged with the offense of pointing and presenting a firearm at another individual.

According to a report by the New York Post, which referenced details from an arrest warrant, Debiase allegedly brandished his gun after being irked by a fellow officer’s decision to microwave fish at the station.

In response to this incident, the Myrtle Beach Police Department stated that they had terminated Debiase’s employment following a thorough internal investigation.

According to a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page, the alleged incident involved Debiase “removing his department-issued firearm from its holster while in the PD briefing room and pointing it at another officer.”

The department did not specify whether the firearm was loaded.

“He was placed on administrative leave immediately following the incident while investigations were conducted by the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Based on information learned during the Office of Professional Standards investigation, several policy violations were identified,” the statement said.

The department said its employees are entrusted with “professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and respect for others.”

“This incident does not reflect the values demonstrated by the men and women of the Myrtle Beach Police Department every day. However, it does demonstrate our commitment to accountability and our willingness to address conduct that falls short of our expectations,” the statement continued.

“The Myrtle Beach Police Department takes violations of policy and professional standards seriously. We remain committed to maintaining the trust of our community by holding our employees accountable and ensuring they uphold the high standards expected of those who serve the City of Myrtle Beach.”

According to South Carolina law, pointing a firearm at another person is a felony punishable by a fine determined by the court or a prison sentence of up to five years.

A representative for the Myrtle Beach Police Department did not immediately respond to News Media’s request for additional comment.

Debiase is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 14.

European Travel Alert: Australians Face Potential Six-Hour Delays

0

Australians hoping to swap chilly weather for sunny European holidays might need to brace for extended wait times at some airports, according to recent government advice.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Smartraveller service has cautioned that travelers bound for Europe could encounter delays ranging from four to six hours. These setbacks are linked to the European Union’s new digital Entry/Exit System (EES).

The EES, a freshly implemented digital identity system for non-EU citizens, facilitates travel within the Schengen area. This zone comprises 29 European countries with shared border regulations, allowing visitors to move freely without the need for individual visas.

Fully operational since the end of April, the EES requires travelers to register biometric data, including facial images and fingerprints, which has contributed to the delays at participating airports.

The Smartraveller alert highlights that these delays have led to missed flights, advising travelers to factor in extra time when planning their itineraries.

“Queues to access EES self-service kiosks are long. Be prepared to stand for an extended time. Take food and water if needed,” the alert reads.

“If you have mobility or health concerns that limit how long you can stand, talk to airport support staff.”

The EES is only available for short stays. Travellers who enter or exit a border for the first time will be expected to have their fingerprints and photo taken, while answering questions from the customs officials.

British travellers were warned to arrive three hours early for flights home as they encounter the new system as well.

The UK boss of budget airline Wizz Air, Yvonne Moynihan, told the BBC the impact of the new checks was “fragmented across Europe” and there had been long queues at “usual hotspots such as Spain, Portugal, France”.

A European Commission spokesperson told the BBC the EES was working well at “almost all border crossing points”.

Last year, Australians spent an estimated $280 million on European summer holidays.

And while Foreign Minister Penny Wong earlier in the year warned Australians to “think very carefully about their travel plans” amid war in the Middle East leading to major hubs shutting down, demand for European flights has remained strong.

Dean Long, CEO of the Australian Travel Industry Association, said that Europe is “absolutely still on the table for Australians.”

“The pathway might look different for some at the moment due to the restricted Middle East traffic, but there are reliable, well-serviced routings through Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo,” he told SBS News last month.
