Repeat Offender Caught in $20K Home Heist and Gun Possession Chase

In a startling series of events in Gainesville, Florida, 20-year-old Mikale Immanuel Fuye has been apprehended following allegations of a dramatic home burglary. Authorities claim Fuye made away with over $20,000 worth of valuables, including a firearm and checkbooks, before a high-speed escape ended in a collision with another vehicle.

The incident traces back to May 18, when deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a break-in. The homeowners reported that while they were absent, an intruder had forcibly entered their residence, leaving behind a trail of disorder. Among the stolen items were $6,000 in cash, $15,000 worth of jewelry, a handgun, business checks, as well as personal identification documents like credit cards, passports, and social security cards. The extent of the disarray made it difficult for the victims to ascertain if additional belongings had been taken.

In the wake of the burglary, law enforcement officers canvassed the neighborhood for clues. Surveillance footage revealed an older model white Lincoln sedan arriving at the scene around 8:50 a.m., only to speed away roughly an hour later. Investigators noted the vehicle had illegally tinted windows, including the front windshield.

Efforts to trace such vehicles in the vicinity led to the identification of a single matching car, which was registered to Fuye, ultimately guiding deputies to him as a suspect in the case.

A search for white Lincoln sedans in the area only found one; it is registered to Fuye.

The victims also reported that their credit card was used at multiple stores on the same day as the burglary, and deputies reported that the white Lincoln was captured on video surveillance at one of the businesses.

At about 3:26 p.m. on May 20, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a white sedan with illegal window tint after the sedan left Majestic Oaks without stopping. The driver allegedly drove away after a deputy instructed him to stop while making eye contact; the car accelerated away and made several turns in an effort to evade deputies but eventually crashed into an uninvolved vehicle that was stopped behind an RTS bus near the intersection of SW 61st Street and SW 8th Avenue. This caused Fuye’s vehicle to travel off the roadway and crash into a tree before coming to rest in a ditch next to a children’s playground.

Fuye allegedly tried to flee by jumping out of the driver’s side window of the car, but he was apprehended by deputies and a K-9.

A loaded handgun was reportedly found in the street next to Fuye’s crashed car, along with other items that had been inside the car.

A probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly produced the victim’s business checks and personal checkbook in the trunk, and a firearm was found in the vehicle, but it was not the victim’s stolen firearm. At the time the report was written, deputies were awaiting a search warrant to try to find the other items stolen in the burglary.

Post Miranda, Fuye reportedly declined to answer any questions.

Fuye was medically cleared at a hospital before being transported to the jail.

Fuye has been charged with armed burglary of a dwelling, fleeing with disregard for the safety of others, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, grand theft over $20,000, grand theft of a firearm, fraudulent use of credit cards over $300, possession of another person’s identification without consent, and theft of a credit card. He has a juvenile conviction from 2022 and three adult felony convictions (two violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in December 2025. Judge Adam Lee ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

City Halts Controversial Gunshot Detection Tech Amid Racism Concerns Following Recent Shooting

0

In a separate development, the Cambridge City Council recently decided to terminate its agreement with the provider of ShotSpotter technology, a system that detects gunfire and instantly notifies law enforcement. This decision was influenced by concerns regarding racial implications.

This resolution came shortly after Tyler Brown, aged 46, allegedly engaged in a random shooting spree, discharging 50 to 60 rounds at traffic on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, resulting in two injuries. The incident, captured on video, quickly gained widespread attention online. Brown, who has a history of criminal activity, was released from prison early despite a previous incident where he shot at police. One of the victims from that earlier event had cautioned in an impact statement that “when Mr. Tyler Brown gets out, he will hurt, or worse, kill someone.”

Still, Cambridge residents lined up at Monday’s city council meeting to advocate for the end of the technology.

NORTHEASTERN CITY VOTES TO END SHOTSPOTTER CONTRACT FOR GUNFIRE-DETECTION TECH DESIGNED TO FIGHT CRIME

“The use of ShotSpotter, which disproportionately targets marginalized Black and Brown communities is unjust and directly threatens the liberty and well-being of our communities,” said resident Lily Grob, who described herself as a “newly-minted social worker.”

“As a social worker, I work primarily with Black and Brown, low-income and immigrant children and their families. More than ever, these communities are living under immense fear which I see actively as manifesting as a mental health crisis for children and their families,” she said.

Councilor Ayah A. Al-Zubi, a Democratic Socialist, introduced the measure to remove the gunshot detection tool in April. Several self-identified members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) spoke at the meeting.

REP PRESSLEY PUSHES AI CIVIL RIGHTS ACT, AIMED TO ‘ESPECIALLY’ PROTECT BLACK, BROWN AND MARGINALIZED PEOPLE

Another resident, Kayla Goodale, factored race into her advocacy for the end of ShotSpotter in the city.

“ShotSpotter is unfettered surveillance on the largest populations of Black and Brown residents of Cambridge,” she said. “ShotSpotter is funded by DHS and undermines Cambridge’s status as a sanctuary city and undermines our commitment to not collaborate with ICE.”

Local law enforcement often uses DHS grants to fund the technology, which many other residents raised as a concern, along with the fact that the city council did not vote to implement ShotSpotter before it was rolled out citywide in 2014.

EX-HARRIS AIDE ARGUES MORE POLICE WON’T MAKE STREETS SAFER, CITING EXPERIENCE AS A ‘BLACK WOMAN IN AMERICA’

Resident Andrew Feldman said he knows friends and family who avoid traveling near ShotSpotter to avoid “racialized policing.”

Ben Amado said the technology is “constantly listening to Black and Brown communities here in Cambridge, taking advantage of people’s very real trauma around gun violence and presenting uncountable surveillance as a solution.”

“Again, I do not consent for our vulnerable neighbors in our welcomed community sanctuary city at risk,” said resident Brooke Feinberg. “I do not consent to being under constant surveillance by nature of just moving about Cambridge.”

Ultimately, the council voted 5-2-2 to remove the technology.

Joe Gamaldi is the national vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). He slammed the political left for its opposition to ShotSpotter.

“ShotSpotter has been proven time and again to reduce police response times, assist in evidence collection … and capture suspects,” he said. “Yet here we go again with those on the far left attempting to limit the tools of law enforcement at the price of safety in our communities”

“It’s embarrassing and disgusting that they put their own ideology and anti-police policies over the safety of the innocent members of our communities,” he continued.

Cambridge City Councilor Patty Nolan told Fox News Digital she voted to end ShotSpotter’s contract because of concerns raised by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and because she doesn’t think ShotSpotter makes the city safer.

“I note that I support the cameras the city has in place in Central Square, which the police department has also supported,” she said. “And when the Council voted to end the use of Flock cameras, the police department concurred.  So this issue is not one that means the council is against technology, or all cameras. I stand in favor of technology that is effective and keeps us safe, when the benefits outweigh the concerns.”

Master These 6 Balance Exercises to Stay Fit After 60

Challenge your stability with these six exercises designed to test and improve your balance.

As we grow older, we often focus on monitoring our blood pressure, heart health, weight, and cholesterol levels. While these are critical health metrics, many overlook the significance of maintaining balance and stability.

Did you know that more than a quarter of adults aged 65 and older experience falls annually? These incidents can lead to serious consequences, such as head injuries, broken bones, and even hip fractures. After the age of 50, balance tends to decline due to muscle loss and changes in the inner ear. Thus, staying active is vital to maintaining independence and preventing injuries.

To better understand how to assess your physical fitness, we consulted Jacob Siwicki, the founder and head coach of Siwicki Fitness. An NCSF and AFAA certified trainer, Jacob is a former top 1% globally ranked Equinox group fitness instructor (2019), a Dartmouth economics graduate, a previous Dartmouth football player, and a fitness expert featured on FOX 5 DC. In 2021, he was recognized as the top personal trainer in Washington D.C.

We spoke with Jacob Siwicki, founder and head coach of Siwicki Fitness, NCSF and AFAA certified, former top 1% globally ranked Equinox group fitness instructor (2019), Dartmouth economics graduate and former Dartmouth football player, fitness expert on FOX 5 DC, ranked #1 personal trainer in D.C. in 2021, to learn how you can tell if you’re in good shape.

When someone is considered “in good shape for their age,” Siwicki is referring to several qualities beyond basic strength. What he looks for doesn’t show up by simply looking in the mirror: balance and proprioception, mobility, coordination, cardiovascular endurance, and mental sharpness.

“Someone who is ‘in good shape’ at 65 is not necessarily someone who can lift the most weight. It is someone who can move in every direction, recover quickly, stay engaged, and get back up if they go down. That is what I am really assessing,” Siwicki explains.

If you can do the six balance exercises he shares below, you are golden!

Reverse Lunge to Knee Drive

“The reverse lunge with a knee drive forces you to step back, lower yourself, then drive the back knee up to your chest and hold for a second. You are balancing on one leg at the top of every rep,” Siwicki explains.

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and hands on your hips.
  2. Take a big step back with your right foot.
  3. Lower into a shallow lunge.
  4. Push through the heel of your front foot to rise, driving your back knee forward toward your chest.
  5. Pause briefly before repeating.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Single-Leg Deadlift

“Single-leg deadlifts are the gold standard for hip stability and posterior chain strength, and they expose any weakness in your standing leg immediately,” Siwicki says.

  1. Begin by standing tall with your feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides.
  2. Shift your body weight to your right leg, maintaining a slight bend in that knee.
  3. Hinge forward at your hips, extending your left leg straight behind you while reaching your arms toward the ground. Make sure your chest stays lifted and your back remains flat.
  4. Hold briefly when your torso is parallel to the floor.
  5. Drive through your right heel and lower your left leg to gradually return to the start position.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Bird Dog

“Bird dogs are the great equalizer, on hands and knees, extending the opposite arm and leg, which trains core stability and the cross-body coordination that keeps you upright when you trip over a curb,” Siwicki tells us.

  1. Start on all fours.
  2. Extend your left arm and right leg.
  3. Hold for a moment before returning to the start position.
  4. Switch sides and continue to alternate.

Skaters

“Skaters are a single-leg jump side to side, or for someone newer to this, a step out to the side and a single-leg squat with the other leg crossing behind like a curtsy lunge. That lateral movement is huge because most people only train forward and backward, and falls almost always happen sideways,” Siwicki points out.

  1. Begin standing tall with your feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent.
  2. Jump to the left, naturally swinging your arms and landing softly on your left foot.
  3. As you land, cross your right leg behind you in a curtsy-style position.
  4. Push off your left foot as you jump to the right, landing on your right foot.

Pistol Squats

“Pistol squats are the hardest of the bunch, a full single-leg squat with the other leg out in front. Most 60-year-olds cannot do a true pistol, and that is fine. The progression is what matters: squatting down to a chair on one leg, then a lower box, then eventually unassisted,” Siwicki says.

  1. Begin standing tall with your feet hip-width apart and arms extended ahead of you.
  2. Shift your body weight onto one leg and lift the opposite leg straight out in front of your body.
  3. Maintain a tall chest and slowly bend your standing knee, pressing your hips back as you lower into a squat.
  4. Make sure your lifted leg stays off the ground as you lower.
  5. Press through the standing heel to rise back up.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Standing Quad Stretch

“The standing quad stretch is a perfect cool-down after working your legs, and it forces you to stand on one foot while pulling the other heel to your glute,” Siwicki tells us. “If you can hold it for 30 seconds without grabbing a wall, your balance is in great shape.”

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart near a sturdy chair or wall for support, if needed.
  2. Shift your body weight onto one leg.
  3. Bend the opposite knee as you bring that heel toward your glutes, holding onto your ankle with the same-side hand.
  4. Feel the stretch at the front of your thigh as you hold for roughly 30 seconds.
  5. Repeat on the other side.

New York City Apartment Complex Initiates Legal Action Against Tenant for Alleged Neighbor Harassment

0

The notion of home as a sanctuary seems to have been upended in a troubling saga unfolding on the Upper East Side. The owners of a rental building have taken legal action against a tenant, demanding over $1.5 million in damages as they seek to evict her for persistent harassment and abusive behavior towards neighbors, passersby, and building staff.

The lawsuit, filed by East 77 Owners, targets Layla Al-Marzooqi, an artist residing in Apartment 1B of the five-story, 10-unit building located at 436 E. 77th St. The court documents, submitted to the New York State Supreme Court, allege that Al-Marzooqi has verbally assaulted fellow tenants both in the hallways and on the sidewalk. Furthermore, she has been accused of screaming for hours on end within her apartment, harassing the superintendent, and posting a menacing sign on her front door.

Matthew Goodman, the building’s managing agent from Eric Goodman Realty, shared with The Post, “She wasn’t always the nicest person to deal with, but I could manage her. It was fine.” However, Goodman noted a significant change in her behavior in April, saying, “something flipped.”

“She wasn’t always the nicest person to deal with but I could deal with her. It was fine,” building managing agent Matthew Goodman with Eric Goodman Realty told The Post.

But in April, “something flipped,” he said.

“It just kept escalating. We were hoping it was a random incident and it would stop. It has been absolute chaos,” he said.

Goodman said the property’s owners — a family — speak through him.

When Eric Goodman Realty began managing No. 436 and the two adjoining buildings, which have separate entrances but all share a laundry room, in 2022, Al-Marzooqi was already living in a studio apartment in one of them, No. 440, Goodman said.

He said he had no problem upgrading Al-Marzooqi — who didn’t respond to requests for comment — to a one-bedroom dwelling in November 2024 in No. 436, because while she was “a little difficult,” she was “never rude or threatening.” Her rent started at $3,000 per month.

But then on April 12, Al-Marzooqi, “directed a stream of obscenities at a neighboring tenant in the hallway,” the suit claims.

“She cursed me out in the hallway for no apparent reason other than my girlfriend’s dog was over and she hates dogs,” the neighbor told The Post. “A few days later, she was screaming all day so [Goodman] said a checkup was warranted by the police. I called, and then after the police left, she posted on her Facebook and called out my apartment number and basically told me to die. From then on, I started noticing her all day screaming. And she had been screaming at people walking their dogs down the street, and just in general.”

The same month, a tenant reported to management that Al-Marzooqi’s four hours of screaming without pause made it so she was “unable to hear her own television, that she was unable to think and that she had become frightened,” court documents say.

And this was not an isolated incident.

In addition, in April, Al-Marzooqi allegedly affixed a placard to her door that reads, “DEATH To you beyond below around above this Apartment Space,” visible to everyone passing through the common hallway.

Also, as seen in the court documents, Al-Marzooqi has posted racist and homophobic comments which identify and tag the plaintiffs “by name and association” and accuse them of criminality on a public Facebook page. She posted on Facebook art depicting a swastika with the Star of David, set against an American flag. Finally, Al-Marzooqi has scared off prospective tenants and existing tenants have asked to break their leases as a result of her conduct, the suit claims.

Tenants have reported fearing for their safety and have made many written complaints to management.

One tenant wrote, “As I was trying to leave the building the tenant was screaming at me, construction workers across the street, basically anyone that crossed her path,” per an email submitted in court documents.

The building terminated Al-Marzooqi’s lease, effective May 14 on the grounds that her “conduct constitutes a nuisance.”

Al-Marzooqi has not moved out, per Goodman.

The owners’ attorney said she intends to start a housing court proceeding on Thursday to get Al-Marzooqi out.

Meghan Markle Cashes In: How AI-Driven OneOff is Revolutionizing Her Designer Wardrobe Sales

0

The Duchess of Sussex is once again leveraging her fashion choices for profit through the AI-driven platform, OneOff. However, the steep pricing of some items means potential buyers must inquire directly with designers to learn the cost of certain dresses.

Earlier this month, Meghan, now 44, took to Instagram to share a series of videos that showcased her various products. These clips captured her enjoying strawberries in her garden, lounging on the kitchen counter, and gathering flowers—all while flaunting outfits and accessories valued at an impressive £92,834.

Since Meghan joined forces with the AI fashion app, OneOff, earlier this year, the platform has meticulously cataloged her attire and jewelry featured in these promotional clips.

In one particular scene, Meghan is spotted in a chic ensemble featuring a £67 Anine Bing Amani Tee and £1,250 Ragnar Pleated Wool Straight Leg Pants from The Row, a favorite among celebrities. She elevated the look with a stunning £47,578 Logan Hollowell Fortuna Diamond Tennis Necklace and £5,135.50 Birks Diamond Cluster Jacket Earrings.

The Duchess, a mother of two, has shown a consistent preference for the Danish brand Anine Bing. In another clip, she dons the brand’s £208 Brie Jeans, paired stylishly with a £461 Celine Cropped Shirt in Striped Cotton—sourced from the designer resale site Winnie Modo.

Her third outfit, seen as she smells flowers, was largely from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s brand The Row, including its £1,480 Naius Wool Sweater and £1,620 Nari Wool Mock-Neck Sweater.

She paired the knitwear with £270 Carrie Twill Straight-Leg Pants from Anine Bing and the Pippa Small 18kt Herkimer Metamorphic Cup Ring, which is handmade in Jaipur, India, and costs £950.

Perhaps her dressiest ensemble was one reminiscent of her second wedding day look by Stella McCartney – her Oscar de la Renta Fluid Halter-Neck Gown (price available on request) matched with a £2,250 Celine Colonne Jacket in Diagonal Wool.

The Duchess went for a more casual look with her next outfit – the £155 Polo Ralph Lauren Oxford Long Sleeve Button Up Shirt and £241 Tracey James Collection Upper Village Jeans.

She accessorised with The Clips from Crown Affair, priced at £43, and her £7,050 Cartier Love Bracelet and £22,000 Cartier Tank Française 21.2mm Small 18-Karat Gold Watch.

I know the moment the Royal Family started to question Meghan’s motivations

Hi! I’m Richard Eden, Diary Editor and author of the Palace Confidential newsletter.

Even before her wedding to Prince Harry, the then Meghan Markle set off alarm bells with an act my sources called ‘a punch to the solar plexus’. It says so much about everything that has happened since… Sign up to the newsletter here to read what I discovered

The final ensemble included a £221 Christian Dior Silk Love Sleeve Blouse, the £225 ‘Kate Jeans’ from Anine Bing, £820 Chanel Ballet Flats and the Cord Woven Leather Belt from The Row, costing £810.

It comes after Meghan revealed she made a rare visit to the UK on Monday during her return journey from Geneva to LA.

The Duchess of Sussex last officially visited Britain in 2022, when the late Queen Elizabeth II died. She also travelled via Heathrow in July 2024 when visiting Nigeria, according to reports at the time, and spent several hours at the prestigious Windsor Suite.

Meghan was in Switzerland on Sunday to give a speech on children’s online safety at the World Health Organisation’s 79th World Health Assembly.

Her visit came two days before her eighth wedding anniversary with Prince Harry, which she heavily celebrated on Instagram with a host of unseen photographs from her Windsor nuptials.

Alongside a Union Jack emoji, she also shared an image of a handwritten card she’d received from BA staff, writing: ‘Thanks to this amazing flight crew for all the love yesterday! Appreciate all your memories and kind words.’

The card read: ‘Dearest Harry and Meghan, Wishing you a wonderful wedding anniversary, With love, The whole British Airways family.’

Meghan’s BA269 flight from London departed 26 minutes later than expected at 3.31pm and arrived in LA at 7.25pm.

It is not clear how long her stopover at Heathrow was after flying in from Geneva on Monday morning.

There are no direct flights from Geneva to LA, but she could also have chosen to travel via Frankfurt, Paris or Barcelona.

Prince Harry has previously said that it is unsafe to bring his family to the UK unless he is given full-time armed police protection.

Funded by the public purse for all senior royals, automatic protection was taken away from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they decided to step down from their royal duties.

Their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, four, have not seen their grandfather, the King, since February 2022 when they visited Britain as part of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Last year, Harry lost a legal bid to have his protection reconsidered, blaming the Royal Household in thinly veiled comments about him being the victim of ‘a good old-fashioned establishment stitch up’.

Since Harry and Meghan’s departure from the UK in 2020, when the Metropolitan Police stopped providing security for the couple, they have been responsible for their own security, which would include round-the-clock protection at their estate in Montecito, California, and security for overseas visits.

Meanwhile, a source close to the Duchess told PEOPLE magazine: ‘Meghan’s flight crew was so lovely on her way back from Geneva.

‘They all came to say happy anniversary and shared their memories of where they were on the day. They wrote Harry and Meghan a card and gave them a bottle of champagne and British candies for Harry and the kids.

‘It was very special and so appreciated by Meghan, who wanted to publicly thank them. She was truly so touched.’

USCB Freshman Clinches Victory at DII Golf National Championship

BEAUFORT, S.C. () — In a stunning display of skill, a first-year golfer from the University of South Carolina Beaufort clinched the NCAA Division II National Championship on Wednesday in Boulder City, Nevada.

Octavio Laurent delivered an impressive performance, shooting a 63 in the final round to secure the title with a remarkable 17-under par (199), setting a new program record for a tournament.

Originally from Bordeaux, France, Laurent made history as the first athlete from the Sand Shark team to win a national championship during the university’s NCAA DII tenure.

This national victory caps off an extraordinary season for the freshman, who also received the NCAA DII Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award. Moreover, he was named Peach Belt Conference Co-Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

Laurent’s journey began on Monday, when he tied for 19th place with a two-under-par opening round. He surged forward in the second round, tying for second with a six-under-par. His final round was nothing short of spectacular, as he played bogey-free golf, scoring nine birdies and nine pars to finish with a nine-under-par.

Over the 54-hole tournament, Laurent had 22 birdies and 27 pars, scoring par or better on 49 of 54 holes. During his final two rounds, he played 35 of 36 holes at par or better.

Head coach Cory Cottrell said, “Octavio has been nothing but phenomenal since he stepped foot on campus in August. I could not be more thrilled for all of his hard work to pay off in such a rewarding way. To end the year by not only winning the NCAA Championship, but to do so by breaking several NCAA records is spectacular.”

Cottrell also highlighted what the win means for the program.

“This was a special week for Octavio, but also the whole USCB golf community,” Cottrell said. “There are so many people who have poured so much time and dedication into USCB golf that this success is shared with them as well.”

Minnesota Fraud Mastermind Sentenced to 42 Years for $250M ‘Feeding Our Future’ Scheme

0

The former executive of a Minnesota nonprofit found herself facing nearly 42 years behind bars on Thursday, after masterminding a $250 million fraud scheme involving pandemic relief funds.

Leading the nonprofit ‘Feeding Our Future,’ Aimee Bock was convicted last year on counts of conspiracy, fraud, and bribery.

Although the organization claimed to feed millions of children in need throughout the pandemic, the Justice Department labeled it as the “single largest COVID-19 fraud scheme in the country,” according to a report by The Associated Press.

A TIMELINE OF THE ‘LARGEST COVID-19 FRAUD SCHEME’ IN THE UNITED STATES

Prosecutors told the court the nonprofit functioned as a “cash pipeline,” relying on a web of fake distribution sites, fabricated lists of children and kickbacks.

Bock and her co-conspirators funneled the stolen taxpayer funds into lavish personal purchases, including real estate, luxury cars and international travel, the outlet reported.

During sentencing, Bock told the federal court, “I understand I failed. I failed the public, my family, everyone.”

Her attorney, Kenneth Udoibok, argued she should serve no more than three years, insisting she provided critical information to investigators and was unfairly scapegoated, the AP reported.

Former lead prosecutor Joe Thompson countered that Bock “did everything she could to earn this long sentence” and that the case “changed our state forever.”

The sprawling investigation has led to the convictions of dozens of people, many hailing from the state’s large Somali community.

MASSIVE MEDICAID FRAUD SCHEME PUTS MINNESOTA’S FEDERAL FUNDING AT RISK — AND FALLOUT COULD WIDEN

Authorities are continuing to uncover broader social service fraud in Minnesota, with new charges filed this week against suspects accused of stealing millions through fraudulent Medicaid housing subsidies, illicit childcare center reimbursements, and more than $21 million billed for unnecessary or unprovided autism therapy.

The Feeding Our Future scheme spurred the Trump administration’s surge of federal officers to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area last winter, which led to violent protests and multiple fatal federal officer-involved shootings.

Shocking Incident: Man Accused of Secretly Administering Abortion Drug to Pregnant Woman in Her Drink

Inset: John Ruben Demeter (Montgomery County Sheriff”s Office). Background: The Montgomery County Jail in Conroe, Texas (Google Maps).

A Texas resident is confronting potentially severe legal consequences following accusations of secretly administering abortion medication to a woman without her consent, state law enforcement officials have confirmed.

John Ruben Demeter, 25, faces charges of conducting an unlawful abortion and causing injury to a child, as detailed in a statement from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

The statement alleges that Demeter covertly gave an abortion-inducing drug to a pregnant woman without her awareness or agreement, leading to the termination of her pregnancy.

The case came to light in February when the woman, suspecting she had unknowingly ingested abortion drugs, sought medical help.

According to Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle, investigators discovered that Demeter had purchased abortion medication online and arranged for it to be delivered to his residence. Sheriff Doolittle shared these findings during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Authorities believe the defendant crushed the medication and mixed it into at least one drink that was given to the woman.

“He covertly crushed that medication and mixed it in a water bottle with a liquid I.V. packet, and this was done with this specific intent to cause the death of the child,” Doolittle said.

The pregnancy is believed to have been some 14 weeks along when the unborn child was killed, according to law enforcement.

“That baby, Presley Mae, was stillborn at the hospital, weighed about 55 grams,” the sheriff added.

In response to significant media attention over Demeter’s original arrest, officials on Wednesday stressed that the latest charges “stem from allegations involving the non-consensual administration of medication and the resulting harm alleged in the investigation.”

During the Wednesday press conference, prosecutors also said they believe the case against Demeter may be historic in that it is the first of its kind under the state’s anti-abortion statute.

Deputies were first called to the hospital over a miscarriage that had occurred under suspicious circumstances, law enforcement said.

The defendant’s girlfriend suspected the child’s father had poisoned her to end the pregnancy, according to a report by Houston-based ABC affiliate KTRK. The woman told investigators that her boyfriend wanted her to abort the baby and offered to pay for her travel so she could legally get the medical procedure performed out of state.

Investigators believe Demeter gave his then-girlfriend mifepristone, a drug illegal in Texas under the state’s abortion ban.

“These allegations describe conduct that is both deeply troubling and profoundly harmful,” prosecutor Laura Hill said. “Our responsibility is to carefully evaluate the evidence, apply the law as written, and seek justice on behalf of victims and this community.”

Initially, Demeter faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has been detained in the Montgomery County Jail since he was arrested on Feb. 23, two days after the miscarriage.

Now, the defendant is facing two first-degree felonies and could spend a maximum of 10 years in prison if convicted.

“This case represents allegations of deliberate deception that resulted in devastating consequences,” Montgomery County District Attorney Mike Holley said. “The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office will continue to pursue justice based on the facts, the evidence, and the laws of the State of Texas.”

Harry Maguire Dropped from England’s World Cup Squad: Mother’s Outrage Directed at Thomas Tuchel’s Controversial Selections

Harry Maguire has been left out of England’s lineup for the upcoming World Cup, a decision made by manager Thomas Tuchel, which Maguire’s mother has criticized as ‘disgraceful.’

The official announcement of Tuchel’s 26-man roster for the tournament is set for tomorrow morning, with Maguire notably absent from the selection.

Additionally, Luke Shaw, who plays alongside Maguire at Manchester United, has also been excluded from the squad.

Interestingly, Ivan Toney, currently with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, has secured an unexpected spot on the team. This comes despite his limited playtime of just five minutes under Tuchel’s management.

The forward joins other selected players such as Ollie Watkins, Dan Burn, and Tino Livramento, adding a fresh dynamic to the squad.

Maguire, 33, is understood to be incredulous at the decision. He said: ‘I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had.

Maguire’s mum Zoe responded to the post writing: ‘‘You couldn’t have done anymore. Hold your head high… Disgraceful.’

She added ‘Absolute disgusted’ in a separate social media post.

Maguire has just signed a new contract at United after turning his career around this season under manager Michael Carrick.

But he continues to have the shadow of a Mykonos police assault case hanging over him from 2020.

Earlier this year the prosecutors behind his conviction in Greece called for him to not be allowed to go to the World Cup after he was handed a 15-month suspended sentence.

Maguire was found guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery in relation to the incident six years ago following a retrial in the Greek Criminal Appeal Court on the island of Syros in March and has called the case a shambles and said he plans to appeal.

In a statement to Daily Mail Sport, Ioannis Paradissis, the lawyer for the police officers who claimed they were injured trying to arrest Maguire, said: ‘Our clients’ position is that, in light of his conviction and the fact that he now has a criminal record for violent crimes — even if he lodges an appeal on points of law only — Mr Maguire should not be permitted to continue representing higher-level sports teams, including participation in the Premier League or international competitions such as the World Cup.

‘We also understand there is a game scheduled in the United States. Since he now holds a criminal record, it is highly unlikely he would be granted a visa or ESTA. This would, in any event, prevent him from travelling to or competing there and thus be a problem for his team.’

Levi Colwill, the 23-year-old Chelsea centre back who has missed most of this season with an ACL injury, was named on Tuchel’s 55-man long list last week and is in contention to be picked on Friday.

Maguire, who has earned 66 caps for England, has represented the Three Lions at three major tournaments but was also left out of England’s squad for Euro 2024 after failing to recover from an injury.

The defender has featured in all of England’s matches at the last two World Cups, helping the Three Lions to reach the semi-finals at Russia 2018 and the quarter-finals of Qatar 2022.

However, Maguire has featured in just three of England’s internationals since Euro 2024.

He started in the first match of Lee Carsley’s interim spell against the Republic of Ireland in September 2024. Maguire’s only appearances under Tuchel came in the most recent international friendlies in March.

The Man United defender played the duration of a 1-1 draw with Uruguay, as well as seven minutes of a 1-0 home defeat by Japan.

Foden is also set to miss out, despite turning in some improved performances for Pep Guardiola in recent weeks, but left himself too much to do ahead of the World Cup.

Tuchel had offered Foden two chances to impress during the March international break but the German admitted that he was unable to replicate energetic displays in training to matches.

The 25-year-old has been a bit-part player for City in recent months but is set to sign a new long-term contract.

While a bitter blow for Foden, England and City will hope that a summer off can act as a springboard to return to the sort of form that saw him crowned PFA Player of the Year in 2024.

Supreme Court Blocks Alabama’s Execution of Inmate with Low IQ: A Landmark Decision on Justice and Mental Health

0

WASHINGTON (AP) — On Thursday, the Supreme Court, in a split decision, rejected Alabama’s appeal to proceed with the execution of a convicted murderer deemed intellectually disabled by lower courts.

This decision upholds rulings that favor Joseph Clifton Smith, now 55, who has spent nearly half of his life on death row following his conviction for a 1997 murder where he fatally beat a man.

In a pivotal 2002 decision, the Supreme Court banned the execution of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Moreover, in subsequent rulings in 2014 and 2017, the justices emphasized that states should consider additional evidence in close cases due to potential inaccuracies in IQ testing.

Smith’s case centers around the interpretation of multiple IQ scores that hover slightly above 70, a number often used to identify intellectual disability. His five IQ tests resulted in scores between 72 and 78. According to his attorneys, Smith was enrolled in classes for learning disabilities and left school after the seventh grade. At the time of his crime, he was performing math at a kindergarten level, spelling at a third-grade level, and reading at a fourth-grade level.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear the case to address how courts should assess such borderline cases of intellectual disability, with arguments having been presented in December.

Rather than issue a decision, though, the high court dismissed the appeal, an unusuaI action that leaves the last lower-court ruling in place.

The three liberal justices along with Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett formed the majority to dismiss the case.

The other four conservative justices dissented, faulting the federal appeals court in Atlanta for improperly analyzing the case and complaining that their colleagues should have ordered the appeals court to reexamine Smith’s case.

The case is Hamm v. Smith, 24-872. The full opinion from the court can be read here.
