Meet DARA: The Bulgarian Sensation Who Captured the Eurovision 2026 Crown

0

Bulgarian pop sensation DARA, already a familiar name in her homeland, catapulted to international fame after clinching victory at Eurovision with her hit track “Bangaranga.” The song delivers an inspiring message that “everything is possible,” resonating with audiences worldwide.

At just 27, DARA defied expectations, securing Bulgaria’s inaugural triumph at the Eurovision Song Contest. Her win was confirmed as votes poured in from across Europe, cementing her status as a remarkable performer.

Throughout Eurovision week, DARA captivated audiences with high-energy performances and intricate choreography that accompanied the infectious rhythm of “Bangaranga.”

In the lead-up to the final, DARA expressed her surprise at the possibility of winning.

“I have no expectations. When gifts come my way, I embrace them with gratitude,” she shared with Bulgarian national television following Thursday’s semi-final.

“I love being on stage and I love what I felt during the performance … I’m so grateful for that, for the support that I get,” she said.

Singing in English, her song’s title is a Jamaican Patois slang term that means “riot”.

“Bangaranga, it’s a feeling that everybody got in themselves. It’s the moment that you choose to lead through love and not fear and this is a special energy,” she said.

“Once you feel at one with the nature and the universe you will feel the harmony that you can be whatever you want to be and everything is possible.”

Who is DARA?

Darina Yotova was born in the Black Sea port city of Varna, where she graduated from the National School of Arts.

She began singing traditional Bulgarian folklore music at the age of seven before later shifting her focus toward contemporary pop.

She became known to the general public thanks to her participation in X Factor Bulgaria in 2015.

Her debut single, K’vo ne chu (What Didn’t You Hear) released in 2016 catapulted her to the top of the music charts.

Her career has since been marked by numerous awards, sold-out concerts and a massive fan base, with her songs and videos amassing millions of views.

In 2018, DARA was named Best Woman Artist at the BG Radio Music Awards.

Three years later, she became the youngest-ever coach on The Voice of Bulgaria, and in 2024, she took part in Dancing Stars.

Last year, DARA was selected to open for Robbie Williams at his concert in Sofia.

Asked ahead of the final what it meant to represent Bulgaria, DARA said “it means a lot because we as Bulgarians should have a bigger platform for all of our artists, songwriters, everybody in the creative community. And Eurovision is just a platform for this”.

Bulgaria returned to Eurovision this year after missing the contest since 2022 due to financial reasons. It first joined in 2005.

‘Hyperactivity’

Her latest album, ADHDara, is inspired by her “hyperactivity”.

“This syndrome and all these things I’m trying to fight against are part of me,” DARA told Bulgarian television station bTV in September.

Videos on social media “rarely hold people’s attention for more than six seconds,” said the singer, adding that she has to keep up with this fast pace to stay in touch with her fans.

DARA’s success has given Bulgarian society a rare moment of unity in a fragmented country, stirring memories of 1994, when the national football team finished fourth in the World Cup.

“You already hold first place in the heart of all of Bulgaria! You’re going to conquer Europe as well,” Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova wrote on Facebook before the final.

The singer was certainly able to count on the support of the large Bulgarian diaspora.

Since the borders opened in 1989, many Bulgarians have settled abroad.

Nearly three million Bulgarian nationals live outside the country, according to the foreign ministry.

The Balkan EU member has a population of 6.5 million.

Friendly Reunion: Tess Daly and Vernon Kay Share a Day Out at Pub In The Park

Former partners Tess Daly and Vernon Kay appeared remarkably cheerful and amicable during their outing at Pub In The Park on Saturday, just days after announcing their separation.

The television host, aged 57, and the Radio 2 broadcaster, aged 52, recently disclosed their decision to end their 25-year marriage. In a joint statement, they expressed the emotional struggle behind their choice but emphasized their commitment to co-parenting their daughters, Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16, with mutual support.

A week after their announcement, the duo seemed to be in high spirits, enjoying the lively atmosphere of the food and music festival at Higginson Park in Marlow alongside friends.

An insider shared with the Daily Mail that the ex-partners appeared genuinely happy and cordial. While Vernon sipped on beers, Tess and her friends indulged in English sparkling wine from Chapel Down.

The pair radiated a sense of ease and warmth, engaging in lively conversations as they roamed the grounds, savoring delicacies from George & The Dragon and Tommy’s Pie Shop.

‘Both even stopped to pose with fans, and then went to have a boogie to Craig David. Tess let her hair down and was seen dancing away. Vernon doing typical dad moves!’

Vernon looked in very good spirits as he posed with fans and was even spotted still wearing his wedding ring.

The BBC star wrapped up in a navy hoodie and layered a grey coat over the top while Tess stunned in a navy jumper and leather jacket.

While the showbiz world was rocked by the news of Tess and Vernon’s split, it’s claimed the pair toasted posting the announcement with a glass of champagne.

Now it has been claimed that Vernon and Tess posted the joint statement on Instagram while raising a champagne cheers in their joint mansion.

The Mirror has said the pair are ‘keeping it classy’ with regard to their split – hence the posh fizz marking the finish of their time together.

Despite going their separate ways romantically, the couple are still living in the same property together and eager to mark the next steps in their lives.

A source close to the pair told the publication: ‘After they released the statement, Vernon and Tess took a moment to toast each other and their futures.

‘They only want the best for each other and their family. There has been no big fallout, more a gradual growing apart and wanting different things.

‘They have vowed to stay friends and to keep things classy when it comes to the split and any future interviews they give. They only want the best for each other.’

They started dating after meeting in 2001, with Vernon going on to pop the question the following year on Christmas Day.

Recalling their initial encounter, he told The Telegraph: ‘She didn’t know anyone except me because we’d worked together that day – she spotted me in a crowd and we had a laugh.

‘I was instantly attracted by how independent Tess was, and that’s not changed at all.’

The pair went on to get married in Horwich, near where Vernon grew up in Lancashire, the following September.

It comes after a source told the Daily Mail’s Katie Hind that the couple were living separate lives before their split.

They said: ‘Basically, without meaning to, they’ve been living separate lives. They don’t really do much together any more, they have different interests and hobbies.

‘They had grown apart. They acknowledged that and decided that life would be better if they were to split.’

On Friday, the pair released a joint statement, revealing that they had reached a mutual agreement to go their separate ways, though friends of the couple said they were both still at their marital home in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, yesterday.

The couple wrote: ‘After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably.

‘This has not been an easy choice, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire of what is best for both of us. We remain great friends and, most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority.

‘There are no other parties involved in this decision. We kindly ask for privacy during this time.

‘We will not be making any further public comments.’

Tess and Vernon – thought to be worth around £10million – were last seen publicly together in February of this year when they hosted an episode of The One Show. They are also food ambassadors for Marks & Spencer.

Prime Video’s ‘Off Campus’: Major Differences Between the Books and the Series Revealed!

Prime Video’s Off Campus offers a captivating blend of romance and drama, but how does its TV adaptation stack up against the beloved book series?

Derived from Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus novels, the series debuted on Wednesday, May 13, and centers around a prestigious ice hockey team and the significant women in their lives. The narrative explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, highlighting friendships and bonds formed as the characters transition into adulthood, according to the official synopsis.

The love story of Hannah, portrayed by Ella Bright, and Garrett, played by Belmont Cameli, takes the spotlight in the first season. Their journey is adapted from the book The Deal, featuring updated moments that resonate with today’s audience.

“We’ve completed all eight scripts,” revealed creator Louisa Levy in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly prior to the premiere. “We’ve shared two with the actors, and the writers’ room has wrapped up.”

Which 'Off Campus' Couples Ended Up Together? Book Order Explained

While Prime Video’s Off Campus showcases various romantic tales at Briar U, fans of the book series might wonder which couples find their happy endings. The series brings to life the challenges and triumphs of an esteemed ice hockey team and the women who impact their lives, as they navigate love, heartbreak, and the path to self-discovery.

Levy noted that filming would be happening soon.

“We’re getting ready to dive into production and we’ve got a season mapped out,” she noted. “We know what we want to do — and we’ve got some fun things in store. I’ll just say … book fans are going to be really excited.”

While the scripts have been completed, Levy didn’t rule out changes, adding, “They’re written. It doesn’t mean that we can’t make adjustments. But we do have the plan, we have the map [for the season]. But I’m pretty sure that fans are going to be really excited about it.”

Keep scrolling for the main differences that took place on the show compared to Kennedy’s version:

Hannah Kissing Dean Instead of Logan

In Kennedy’s version, Hannah kissed Garrett’s teammate Logan instead of Dean.

“I know that some people are going to be a little upset about that one change. But honestly, for the story that we’re trying to tell and where Logan has that kind of spark with Hannah, it’s only going to feed the story a little bit more for his attraction toward her,” Anthony Cipriano shared with Us Weekly. “How that moment meant nothing to Hannah but everything to Logan.”

Cipriano hoped the vision came along.

“He appreciates her, and it’s all innocent and all love. I also think the addition of Jules and making him a middle child is really interesting,” he added. “It changes the dynamic completely. And I’m a middle child myself, so I feel like I knew exactly who this guy was.”

Allie and Dean’s Entire Story Line

Season 2 set up Allie (Mika Abdalla) and Dean (Stephen Kalyn) as the next possible leads despite them being featured in the third book in the series. That meant including many scenes from their book in the series, which made fans question what content would be used when Allie and Dean officially became the leads.

“Since the cast was announced, I feel like there’s been theories circulating online, and it’s been really interesting to read it,” Abdalla told Us about Allie and Dean’s bond. “I for sure think people are going to be at least surprised.”

She continued: “Even though we do tease Dean and Ali a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more. That’s something I’m really excited about too because I get it if I was on the other side of it.”

Hannah and Garrett’s Split

Liane Hentscher/ Prime

While Garrett (briefly) ended his romance with Hannah on the show, the book actually had his dad to blame. Bright told Us that swapping it to have the focus on Hannah and Garrett was due to the “characters themselves.”

“That’s what makes it such a poignant and upsetting moment. It is so heartbreaking because they’re both having such awful days at the exact same time. So that miscommunication is, of course, going to end in that way,” she noted. “Because they are losing the ability to connect and hear each other out. They’re dealing with their own things at the same time. So it is really difficult, and it makes it definitely a saddest scene.”

Cameli, meanwhile, referred to it as “very upsetting and a heartbreaking” fictional split, adding, “We wanted it to come from the characters.”

Levy elaborated on the vision for the scene.

“A big reason why we made that change was because 11 years ago — when the books were published — college athletes couldn’t make money off of their image like this and now they can,” she explained. “The financial leverage that Phil has doesn’t really work anymore in today’s climate. We knew that we had to make a change there.”

She continued: “But then on top of that, we also really wanted it to come from Garrett’s inner fear that he might become his father. So even though Phil is not directly responsible, he’s still kind of tangentially responsible. Because that is Garrett’s deepest fear is becoming his dad. You don’t want to do that and make Hannah go through that.”

Off Campus has already been renewed for season 2 — but not every cast member is coming back to the show. Based on the book series by Elle Kennedy, the show, which premiered in May 2026, follows an elite ice hockey team — and the women in their lives — as they “grapple with love, […]

No ‘Hands Off’ Ban

The most significant change was the way Garrett instituted a campus-wide hands-off law after his split from Hannah. On the page, Garrett’s decision frustrated Hannah — but it also brought them back together.

The show did things a little differently with Hannah catching wind of Garrett threatening other guys so they would stay away from her. Hannah confronted Garrett — and that’s when they realized some confusion between his team members led to a misunderstanding.

“We were trying to find a way to keep this fan-favorite moment from the book, while not making it like a problem for Garrett,” Levy told Today. “So we came up with a solution that still honors the original intent but makes Garrett not completely terrible for doing this after breaking up with Hannah.”

Hunter Davenport’s Introduction

To push Allie and Dean’s story along, the show introduced Hunter Davenport despite him not being linked to Allie on the page.

“It was really important to have that scene to slow down what was happening between Allie and Dean. I want to see them kind of go. I want to see them really separate,” Abdalla hinted. “Allie just got out of a long-term relationship. She can’t do what she always does. … I really like the edition of the Hunter story line drama. They need to grow as individuals. And so I really want to see Ali and Dean grow separately in season 2.”

Carter Efe Candidly Discusses His Departure from the ‘Devilish’ Music Industry

  • Comedian and singer Carter Efe has opened up about why he stepped away from music, describing the industry as “devilish.”
  • His comments about music earnings and contracts sparked mixed reactions online, with many questioning his claims.

Carter Efe, a renowned comedian and singer, has set social media abuzz with his candid revelations about his journey in the music industry and the reasons behind his decision to step back from it.

In a video that quickly gained traction online, Efe did not hold back, characterizing the music scene as “very devilish.” He shared his initial misconceptions, admitting he once believed that the music-making process was straightforward—merely a matter of recording tracks and basking in the limelight.

In his own words, Efe expressed, “I ran away from music because the industry is very devilish. I thought once you drop a song, you can just go outside and dance to it.”

He went on to reveal a more complex picture, shedding light on the challenges he faced, particularly those related to revenue sharing and the distribution of music earnings. These insights provide a glimpse into the less glamorous side of the industry that often remains hidden from public view.

The entertainer further claimed that he later discovered issues surrounding revenue sharing and earnings from music distribution.

“Next thing, Spotify sent me a full letter saying I wouldn’t even be getting 10% from my song.”

His statement quickly triggered debates online, with many Nigerians questioning whether Spotify was truly responsible for the alleged revenue arrangement.

Reacting to the viral clip, @yourfaveeeeeee accused blogs of misleading people with captions.

“You always write misleading captions. Where did he mention Spotify?”

Another user, @SMYGOOFFICIAL, questioned the structure of the alleged agreement.

“That’s a lie. What’s Spotify’s business with your revenue? Or you don’t own the project.”

Similarly, @hydee_blizzo suggested the issue was more likely connected to a distribution company rather than Spotify itself.

“It can’t be Spotify, it’s probably his distribution company.”

Some users, however, sympathized with Carter Efe and noted that the music business is often more complicated than many people realize.

@Table_shaker_ commented:

“Music is not easy.”

Meanwhile, @HardeyDharyorh argued that Carter Efe often tells emotional stories to gain public sympathy.

“This guy sabi construct pity story ehn. He knows what Nigerians want to hear.”

Others simply expressed confusion about how music earnings work.

King Charles Reacts to Tragic and Mysterious Death of Soldier at Royal Horse Show

0

King Charles III expressed being “shocked and saddened” upon learning about the tragic death of a British soldier during a horse show he was attending, as announced by Buckingham Palace.

The incident occurred during a performance by the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Friday evening.

The soldier, whose identity has not been revealed, suffered a fall after exiting the arena post-display. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, the injuries proved fatal, and the soldier was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from Thames Valley Police.

In light of the tragic event, it was confirmed that the horse show would proceed on Saturday as scheduled, though it would notably exclude any further performances by the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery.

Charles attended the horse show, which is on the grounds of Windsor Castle, along with his younger brother Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, their daughter Lady Louise, who was working at the show, and the king’s sister Princess Anne.

Following the soldier’s death, the king met with members of the King’s Troop at the horse show after returning on Saturday.

“While His Majesty and other members of the royal family were present at the arena at the time the incident took place, they were not made aware of the severity of the situation until later,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said, according to the London Times.

The spokesperson added, “The King was greatly shocked and saddened to have learned subsequently of the troop member’s death and will be in touch with the family to share his personal condolences. The thoughts and most heartfelt sympathies of the whole royal family are with the victim’s loved ones and military colleagues at this time of grief.”

Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s after-hours request for comment.

The annual horse show is the only time the private grounds of Windsor Castle are open to the public.

On Saturday morning, the police appealed to the public for any information about the “unexplained but non-suspicious death” of the soldier.

‘I don’t know if mine looks cool but it feels cool. It works for me.’

The home is perched on a clifftop and boasts unrivaled ocean views. Costner originally designed a dream home with a pool and guest house but, due to family commitments and spending time at his Aspen home, he never got around to redeveloping the site.

The compound comes with 500 feet of private beach, surrounded by cliffs, and Costner has built an apparent recreational house on the property which is surrounded by outdoor furniture and umbrellas.

Costner already had a home on the beach in Carpinteria but bought a 17-acre parcel of land complete with a modest two-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch in 2006 for $28.5million – after jogging past one day and seeing a for sale sign.

In 2007, he sold seven acres of the land to a neighbor, but combined his homes to create one seamless estate.

The original parcel of land came with a polo practice field which Costner converted to a baseball field, with a longtime pal of the star telling WSJ in 2017: ‘We’ve had some great baseball games there.’

In 2022, the house next to Costner’s was listed for $109 million.

Costner is said to have a net worth of around $250 million. The actor currently collects a reported $1.5 million per episode of his hit show Yellowstone.

In 2022, the actor became the best paid actor on TV when his salary hit $1.5 million per episode, reports Variety.

During the 1990s, Costner became one of the best paid stars in Hollywood when he received $14 million for his role in Waterworld.

In 1990, Costner was paid $3 million for his part in Dances With Wolves, a year later he earned over $40 million for his role in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, thanks to a deal that saw him take a share of the profits.

The property was thrust into the spotlight last year during Costner’s much publicized divorce battle with Christine Baumgartner – with whom he shares three children.

Costner and Baumgartner both sought joint custody of their three children and Baumgartner is receiving $63,209 a month in child support from her ex.

As of now, the settlement details remain unknown however TMZ reports the couple’s prenup was validated by the judge.

In July last year Baumgartner was ordered by a judge to move out of the $145 million compound shared with Costner by the end of the month.

This comes after Costner revealed he would ‘love’ the opportunity to return to his role as John Dutton for the final season of Yellowstone.

While speaking about the highly-anticipated sixth season of his hit Western drama, which is set to return this November, the actor confirmed he is eager for the chance to get back on the Dutton Ranch.

‘I’d like to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to,’ he told Entertainment Tonight. ‘I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five. So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me.’

He continued: ‘If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.’

Costner went on to tease that he has his own ideas of how his character’s story should end.

The father-of-seven said: ‘Well, you know, he needs to be proactive in what happens and I’ve kind of had my own fantasy how it might be.’

Ultimately, Costner said it is up to creator Taylor Sheridan.

‘That’s Taylor’s thing. I said as much to him a while back. I had thoughts how it could happen, but we just have to see,’ he concluded.

Costner’s contract reportedly has a ‘moral death’ clause, indicating that he has some say on how Dutton could be killed of the series.

The clause lists general ways his character is allowed to die, and prevents him getting written off in a ‘shameful or embarrassing’ way.

Costner allegedly departed the franchise last year amid reports of a feud with Sheridan, 53.

Earlier this month, however, reports surfaced that Costner was still planning on returning for the final season, according to Puck.

The two-time Oscar winner had reportedly been ‘telling people’ he plans on coming back ‘for at least a cameo and possibly more.’

He is apparently hoping to ‘leverage’ the desires of the Yellowstone fanbase, eager to see Dutton once more.

‘Kevin Costner has been telling people he’s planning to return for at least a cameo and possibly more, but there are currently no discussions for him to do that,’ Matthew Belloni of Puck News reported.

‘Even if Costner significantly lowers his financial and time commitment demands, Sheridan may not want to bother reopening his finished scripts to accommodate a send-off for John Dutton. But the Yellowstone fans would certainly love it, which Costner knows and hopes to leverage, as he always does.’

Last year, during a profile of Sheridan, The Hollywood Reporter reported there were ‘ongoing discussions’ with Costner to film the final episodes of the show. However at the time, scripts had not yet been completed.

Entertainment Tonight reported last year Costner would be departing the series after its current fifth season amid his alleged rift with Sheridan.

Yellowstone will officially end with it’s current fifth season, however fans have been waiting for more than a year for the second half of season five to debut.

The first half of the season aired in late 2022 but the second half has yet to begin filming.

Recently, one of the show’s stars shared an update on when viewers can expect to see more of the exploits of the Dutton family, even as Sheridan moves on to other shows.

Ian Bohen, who started out as a recurring cast member at the start of the series before joining the main cast in season four, recently told Entertainment Tonight that Yellowstone may begin filming again in late spring or early summer.

If all goes according to plan, the Paramount Network series would be back on the air by autumn of this year.

‘We will go back, rumor has it in May,’ Bohen, 47, said at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party in West Hollywood earlier this month.

He added that Yellowstone would likely be shooting ‘This summer and then we should be on in November, roughly.’

Bohen also clarified that the start dates weren’t set in stone, so ‘It could be June,’ he added.

The series would ‘shoot six episodes,’ before airing them beginning in ‘November maybe December.’

He even suggested that the hit series might scheduled its last episode ever for the biggest night of television of the year.

‘Then we go through the holidays and maybe season finale — series finale maybe on Super Bowl,’ the actor said.

Bohen added wistfully that it was the ‘end of an era.’

Paramount has already said that the show would return in November, and Bohen seems to confirm that goal, though the network has been more reticent about revealing when Yellowstone would go back into production.

Now that the series is ending, reportedly due to the departure of star Kevin Costner over scheduling conflicts and souring relations with Sheridan, Bohen remarked on how strange it feels to almost be done with his character.

‘It’s like going to college and grad school with the same people for six or eight years and you’re like, “We have to go? Then what are we gonna do next?”‘ Bohen continued. ‘It feels empty and weird so I’m gonna try to wring out every second of it.’

Despite the behind-the-scenes conflicts that have dogged the series, Bohen was optimistic that he and his costars would be on the same page once they were in front of the camera.

‘The most important thing — and people come and go and there’s all kinds of stories that you may read about and hear — but this story of what this show is about is the most important,’ he said. ‘We’re all components and we all become madly in love with each other as actors and as people so we’ll finish that out in this beautiful glide to land.’

He added: ‘It’ll be great, so we just want to take advantage of the time more than anything.’

Bohen also clarified that he hasn’t seen any scripts for the final six episodes yet, but he was certain that fans would feel satisfied with the send off.

‘You’re gonna get the most satisfying, the best ending that the show could possibly have from the mind of our creator,’ Bohen declared. ‘Taylor [Sheridan] is going to be delivering to the audience, so it’ll be worth the wait, so we thank everybody for waiting.’

He has been with Yellowstone since its first season as the ranch hand Ryan, but Bohen was bumped up to the main cast beginning in season four.

During the already aired first half of season five, his character began a romance with new face Abby (played by country singer Lainey Wilson).

Wilson, who previously weighed in on whether her character would make it out alive by the end of the show, has said she would do her best to shoot the final season of Yellowstone, even if she was on tour in the wake of her recent success at the Grammy Awards.

‘I will say this, I would be shocked if Lainey Wilson was not in this season,’ Bohen said, delighting fans of the on-screen couple.

‘There was some sort of something — a little bit of something — for her character and for my character. I believe that, I don’t know, but I believe that that will happen,’ he added.

Although Yellowstone is coming to an end, Paramount is reportedly moving forward with a sequel series that it hopes Matthew McConaughey will star in.

The network has been negotiating with the star for months to take over a similar role to the one Costner played and to give the new show equal star power.

However, McConaughey reportedly will not sign on until he has seen scripts that he approves of, and none have been provided to him as of February.

The producers are reportedly closer to signing Michelle Pfeiffer to join the new show in a female lead capacity, though her casting has not yet been confirmed and could still fall apart.

Olly Murs Opens Up About Overcoming Challenging Surgeries: ‘I Really Struggled

Close up of Olly Murs

Singer and TV star Olly Murs has seven Soccer Aid caps under his belt since 2010, and he will be adding to that haul on Sunday, May 31, when this year’s event, the 20th anniversary, takes place at the London Stadium, the home of West Ham. This will be just over a fortnight after the former The Voice judge completed a gruelling fundraising challenge to raise money for the cause – something that would have been unthinkable in recent times as he underwent four separate knee operations over the past seven years.

Renowned singer and television personality Olly Murs is set to participate in his eighth Soccer Aid event on Sunday, May 31. The event marks its 20th anniversary at the London Stadium, home to West Ham. This appearance will follow just weeks after Murs completed a demanding fundraising challenge, a feat unimaginable not long ago, as he has undergone four knee surgeries over the past seven years.

In an exclusive conversation with Express.co.uk, just before embarking on his “Into The Unknown” challenge—a combination of rowing and cycling to raise funds—the 42-year-old father of two opened up about the grueling surgeries he has endured to regain his fitness. “It’s not something for the faint-hearted,” he warned. “[People] don’t realize the extent of the work that has been done on my knee. They had to break my leg, realign my knee to bear weight properly, replace my meniscus with a donor’s, and reconstruct my ACL using my hamstring. My knee now has a plate and screws. All of this was necessary for me to live the life I do now,” he shared.

Although he speaks about his experiences with a positive and realistic outlook today, Olly acknowledges he faced mental health challenges following his physical ordeals. “I had many tough days battling and struggling,” he admitted.

“How’s it going to be when I’m running. Am I ever going to be able to do anything else again? And can I dance? Am I going to be able to do the dance moves I’m used to doing?” He said, recalling the thoughts that tortured him during recovery.

“I didn’t know at the time, and I just had to trust the process,” he said.

Given how much he has gone through, it begs the question of why he would want to put himself under the physical pressure of his Into the Unknown challenge, which he completed on Friday, May 15, raising even more money for UNICEF. At the time of writing, he had hit over £800,000 in donations.

Over five days, he travelled 400km, tackling some of the UK’s most demanding terrain as he ran, rowed and cycled his way from Manchester’s Old Trafford, where Soccer Aid first kicked off two decades ago, to London Stadium, home of this year’s landmark match.

“My head tells me I can do it, and when I’ve got an idea in my mind, and I want to do something, I’ll go out and do it,” he said.

“But of course, on this challenge, I didn’t just accept it. I had to go through the right channels. And all the experts around me have said that, yeah, Olly, you can do it,” he confirmed.

Olly’s epic challenge was captured for a one-off special documentary which will air on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player on Friday 29 May at 9pm. You can donate at the website.

Trump Reveals Intense Nuclear Talks with Xi Jinping and Unveils New Moniker for Democrats

During a recent interview, President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty about whether Chinese President Xi Jinping shared his stance on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, a key justification Trump has used for initiating the conflict with Iran.

In a discussion with Sean Hannity of Fox News on Thursday, following his meetings with Xi in Beijing, Trump reflected on their interactions. The interview aired on Hannity’s show later that evening.

Trump described the encounter as cordial, referring to Xi as a friend. However, when pressed by Hannity about whether Xi agreed that Iran should not possess nuclear arms, Trump admitted that Xi was not particularly forthcoming.

“He’s a pretty cool guy,” Trump remarked, suggesting that Xi wouldn’t explicitly endorse his viewpoint by saying, “that’s a good point.”

When asked if he believed Xi was in agreement with him, Trump responded, “I think he did.”

One Letter Difference

Despite Presidents historically avoiding domestic political hits while abroad, Trump also took time during the interview to slam Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden – and reveal the new nickname he had for their party.

‘I came up with a new name,’ Trump said, adding that he wasn’t sure if he should share it.

He then did.

‘Dumacrats,’ he said. ‘Because they’re dumb, they’re dumb. It’s d-u-m. I got rid of the B. So, you’re only changing one letter, right? E goes and the U comes.’

Hannity had a laugh about it.

‘You know you take up more space in people’s heads than any one person on the face of this Earth, right? You live rent-free,’ the Fox News host responded.

The Greeting Game

Hannity had started out the interview by suggesting Trump had gotten a much more lavish welcome than Obama, the last President to visit China before Trump’s 2017 trip. Biden met with Xi several times and visited other Asian nations, but skipped a China trip.

The President said that’s because ‘there’s no doubt about … we just have a good relationship.’

‘Well, I mean, if I got out of the plane and nobody was there to greet me, I would say that wouldn’t be so cool,’ Trump said.

The President then lavished praise on the Chinese leader, calling him ‘tall,’ ‘especially for this country because they tend to be a little shorter,’ and suggested Hollywood couldn’t cast someone better than Xi.

But when pressed about what Xi might do to help the United States, Trump didn’t yet have definitive answers.

Oil for Influence

He’s set to meet with Xi again Friday, before departing for Washington.

When Hannity asked the President if he thought the Chinese may be able to influence the Iranians ‘considering they are one of their biggest customers,’ Trump answered with a shrug.

‘Yeah, probably, but umm, look, he’s not coming in with guns, he’s not coming in with weapons, they’re not coming in shooting,’ Trump answered.

He answered similarly when Hannity prodded Trump on China’s support for Iran.

‘I mean, when you say support, they’re not fighting a war with us or anything,’ Trump replied. ‘He said he’s not going to give military equipment, that’s a big statement. He said that strongly.’

The President said that Xi did agree to buy US oil.

‘And one thing I think that we’re going to make a deal on is they’ve agreed they want to buy oil from the United States,’ Trump said.

‘They’re going to go into Texas. We’re going to start sending Chinese ships to Texas and to Louisiana and to Alaska. And I think that was another thing that was agreed to,’ he added.

Farmer’s Fortune

Trump later told Hannity that Xi would like to see the US make a deal with Iran.

‘He said, “If I can be of any help, at all, I would like to be of help,”‘ the President stated.

Trump also touted a possible deal with China to buy 200 Boeing planes, up from the 150 the US-based company had sought, the President said.

‘I think it was a commitment,’ he said. ‘He said, sort of like “save it,” but I think it was a commitment.’

Overall Trump boasted that the talks went ‘better than last time’ and more deals were to come.

‘They’re going to do a lot of soybeans for our farmers. They’re going to be buying a lot of our farm product,’ he said.

He then segued and told Hannity that ‘Democrats are against farmers,’ before revealing the new nickname he had given the party.

Hannity didn’t ask Trump any questions about Taiwan.
