Dolly Parton, the iconic country music superstar, has passed away at the age of 80.

Today, confirmation of her death came via a heartfelt Instagram video shared by her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver.

‘Years ago, Dolly entrusted me with this task for a time I couldn’t quite envision until now,’ Seaver disclosed.

He praised his beloved aunt for living a life filled with light and expressed comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her late husband Carl Dean, her parents, and ‘countless others eagerly awaiting her in the afterlife.’

Widely revered as the Queen of Country, Parton leaves behind a remarkable legacy that spans six decades, with timeless classics like “Jolene” and “9 to 5” cementing her place in music history.

Her passing came after months of health woes that saw her pull out of a string of public appearances, fueling fan fears for her wellbeing. 

Seaver fondly recalled joining Parton on tour when he was a child in the 1980s, sharing that she ‘opened doors not just for me but for her entire family to reach the potential we didn’t even know was possible.’ 

He characterized her as a ‘a farmer, just like her daddy; he farmed the soil, she farmed songs and happiness. Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.’

In an interview published just four days before her death, Parton had declared she still had ‘so many things I want to achieve’ and vowed to continue ‘working as long as I can to see everything come to life,’ via People.

She explained that she had been grappling with ‘some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl.’

The fourth of 12 children, Parton was born in Pittman Center, Tennessee, on January 19, 1946. 

She and her siblings – Willadeene, David Wilburn, Coy Denver, Bobby Lee, Stella Mae, Cassie Nan, Randel Huston ‘Randy,’ Larry Gerald, twins Estel Floyd and Freida Estelle, and Rachel Ann – were raised in the Great Smoky Mountains where they slept on beds made of straw and lived with no running water, gas or electricity.

Having developed a love of music at an early age, Parton sang frequently on the local radio and make television appearances in East Tennessee as a child before releasing her first single, Puppy Love, at the age of 13.   

In 2008, Parton told NPR that her 1973 song Jolene was partly inspired by a local bank teller who used to flirt with her late husband.

‘She got this terrible crush on my husband,’ she said at the time. ‘And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. 

‘It was kinda like a running joke between us — when I was saying: “Hell, you’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t believe we’ve got that kind of money.”‘

Years later, she told a crowd at the Glastonbury Festival of the song: ‘I wrote that years ago when my husband… was spending a little more time with Jolene than I thought he should be.

‘I put a stop to that. I got rid of that redhead woman in a hurry.’

Parton’s 1974 hit, I Will Always Love You, was written about the experience of cutting ties with her former business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner as she set her sights on pursuing a solo career.

The song reached the top spot of the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart: first in June 1974, then again in October 1982.

Parton famously refused to let Elvis Presley record his own version after his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, demanded she sign over half of the publishing rights.

‘I wouldn’t let Colonel Tom Parker,’ she recalled in an interview with BBC Radio 2 in 2023.

‘See, Elvis loved the song. In fact, I talked to Priscilla not very long ago. She said, ‘You know, Elvis sang that song to me when we were walking down the courthouse steps when we got divorced’.

‘He loved the song, wanted to do it, had it worked up, they’d already called me to come down to the studio to meet him, and to be part and hear the song.

‘And the night before, Colonel Tom Parker calls me and says: “Well, you know we don’t record anything with Elvis unless we have publishing on it, or at least half the publishing.”

‘Well, I said, because I had a number one song on it, I said: “This is the most important copyright in my whole publishing company, and I can’t do that.”

She added that Parker said they couldn’t do that, and the song fell apart, with Parton adding she was, ‘heartbroken’ because she always wanted to hear Presley sing it.

She was vindicated in her determination to retain the rights when Whitney Houston recorded the song for her 1992 film The Bodyguard, whereupon it became an thunderous international hit that carried the soundtrack album to 18 times platinum.

Parton went on to write and record the song 9 to 5 in 1980 for the comedy film of the same name, in which she starred alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

The track, which she wrote on set by clicking her nails together and forming the beat, became one of her biggest hits of the decade.

It went on to win numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Original Song and Country Song of the Year and Female Country Vocal of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

In March 2025, Parton lost her husband Dean after nearly 60 years of marriage.

In her heartbreaking tribute, she reflected on the ‘many wonderful years’ the pair spent together as she expressed her deep love for Carl and thanked fans for their prayers.

‘Carl and I spent many wonderful years together,’ she said. ‘Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.’

Parton and Dean first met at a laundromat in Nashville in 1964, when she was just 18 years old.

The couple married in 1966 and throughout the dizzy heights of fame, Dean remained a constant and supportive figure for Parton behind the scenes.

In 2023, she spoke about how they first met in her Channel 5 documentary, Dolly Parton: In Her Own Words.

‘I’d never been in a laundromat before,’ she recalled. ‘I walked outside there was this good-looking man that drove by the wishy-washy laundromat. And he pulled over to the side.

‘So, we started talking and we married two years later.’

In 2024, Parton gave a rare glimpse into her marriage and revealed the reason why her husband refused to attend events with her.

Speaking on an episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde Podcast, she said that while her late husband loved her music, he was ‘not the least bit interested in being in it.’

Recalling a pivotal moment early in their marriage, Parton said she once convinced Dean to attend an awards show in 1967 when she won BMI Song of the Year.

Despite the big win, ‘homebody’ Dean told her: ‘I wish you the best, but don’t ever ask me to go to another one of these damn things because I ain’t going.’ And, she added, he never did.

Throughout their decades together, the couple, who renewed their vows in 2016 at their Nashville home, relied on their shared sense of humor to avoid conflict.

Speaking fondly of her ‘hilarious’ husband, the singer added: ‘He’s quiet and I’m loud, and we’re funny…we have a lot of fun.

‘Anytime [there is] too much tension going on, either one of us can like, find a joke about it to really break the tension, where we don’t let it go so far.

‘We never fought back and forth.’

At the end of September 2025, Parton raised fan concerns for her health by announcing that she would be postponing her Las Vegas residency — originally scheduled from December 4 to December 13 at the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace — until September 2026 due to ‘health challenges.’

She shared the news directly with fans on Instagram, explaining that she had been facing health challenges that required her to undergo several medical procedures.

‘I want the fans and public to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts,’ Parton wrote.

‘As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures.’

In her signature style, she joked that it felt like time for her ‘100,000-mile check-up,’ clarifying that it wasn’t her ‘usual trip to see [her] plastic surgeon.’

‘Don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet,’ she said.

‘But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.’

In October, the hitmaker’s younger sibling, Freida Parton, worried fans when she asked for prayers for Parton.

However, hours later Freida returned to Facebook with an update, sharing she didn’t mean to ‘scare anyone’ and adding that Parton has ‘been a little under the weather.’

She added that it wasn’t her intention to ‘make it sound so serious’ and that she made her earlier public appeal simply because she believes in ‘the power of prayer.’

Parton’s death was greeted with a flood of tributes, including from her fellow country singer Maren Morris, who shared a video of herself singing with the late icon in a private setting and wrote: ‘there will never be another. @dollyparton was who we could all agree on. she was and is such a light.’

‘No!!!!!!’ exclaimed Sarah Jessica Parker. ‘I never met @dollyparton but my gosh, did I love her. I don’t think any of us had to know her to love her. One of the greatest this country ever produced. Legend. For real. Forever.’

Parker vaunted Parton for ‘always advocating for those she knew and understood needed a champion. What a loss. But aren’t we so lucky,so fortunate for the endless gifts she shared. With the world. Godspeed and RIP. You will be terribly missed.’

‘One of one,’ wrote Pedro Pascal with a broken heart emoji. ‘We must make more.’ 

In a dramatic turn of events, Tucson authorities have apprehended Alex James Barnett, 33, the suspect in a recent police recruit shooting. Barnett was discovered concealed within an apartment complex, almost a week following the violent home invasion that targeted Tucson police recruit Carlos Ramirez, 23.

The assault left Ramirez’s fiancée, who serves as a corrections officer in Pima County, injured. She remains hospitalized but is currently in stable condition.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department reported receiving a tip that led them to Barnett’s location near the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and South Camino Seco. Around 6 p.m. Monday, SWAT officers engaged in a tense three-hour standoff before finally detaining him. Thankfully, the operation concluded without any additional injuries.

Previously, law enforcement had already detained another suspect in connection to the case. Santiago Jorge Rogers, 39, was captured at a hotel situated near the Tucson International Airport on Saturday morning.

Both suspects are being held without bail at the Pima County jail.

Barnett has a rap sheet that includes prior burglary and weapons convictions and has also been known as Alex Wilson, according to court records. In December 2024, he pleaded guilty to an unlawful imprisonment charge.

A search of Pima County courts for prior cases came back empty for Rogers. However, a man of the same name and age has drug and shoplifting convictions in Yavapai County, possession of contraband behind bars in Navajo and Graham Counties, and a number of lesser charges in Prescott.

Surveillance video shows men identified as Rogers and Barnett in black clothing and picking up items at a gas station convenience store about 20 minutes before the shooting.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously said the suspects were wearing all black clothing and ski masks during the attack.

A third man linked to the suspect vehicle has also been contacted by authorities in connection with the case but was not immediately charged.

“No arrest has been made as investigators work to determine his involvement,” the department said.

Ramirez was shot dead at his home in southwestern Tucson early Wednesday morning, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD).

He was expected to graduate from the police academy on Aug. 27 and had previously worked for PCSD as a corrections officer.

His 23-year-old fiancee, whose name has not been released, also works as a corrections officer in the department.

Alarming allegations have surfaced regarding an Ohio trailer park linked to the arrest of Jed York, CEO of the San Francisco 49ers, in a purported prostitution operation.

York, who is not only the CEO but also the owner of the 49ers with a reported net worth of $500 million, faced accusations of planning to pay $140 in exchange for sexual activities with a woman. This incident reportedly took place at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine, according to a complaint affidavit obtained by The Daily Mail.

The affidavit indicates that the 46-year-old executive was taken into custody on Sunday morning around 9:35 am. He was suspected of soliciting prostitution after apparently responding to a covert advertisement set up by law enforcement on a website notorious for such activities.

After York was released on a $5,000 bond, the Wheat Hill community, known for offering $305-a-month rentals and portraying itself as a ‘clean, quiet, and affordable place to call home,’ became a focal point of both criticism and defense.

The community’s website asserts, ‘This is not the type of place that Jerry Springer would ever find people to be on his show,’ highlighting its insistence on a positive reputation.

But according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle, locals have ‘raised hell’ about law enforcement sting operations in the area.

The Chronicle cites a former Wheat Hill resident who said suspects are occasionally seen fleeing the authorities, with those living in the trailer park concerned about kids ‘being exposed to predators.’

A post on the Wheat Hill MHP Facebook page attempted to downplay the community’s links with alleged prostitution, however. Instead, the post – seemingly written by management company CMC REI LLC – suggests it was a coincidence that York was snared at Wheat Hill.

‘I just got off the phone with the Chief of Police for East Palestine, Chief Weingart. According to the chief, Jed York was arrested in the park because that’s where he happened to pull over,’ it reads. 

‘According to him they were not using addresses in the park as part of their sting operation. This news of this arrest in our quiet community is just as shocking to us, as to the rest of you. While we support law enforcement in their efforts. We really have no other knowledge of the situation.’

The Daily Mail has contacted the management company, Chief Weingart and York’s attorney for comment. They had not responded at the time of writing.

According to its website, Wheat Hill ‘is a clean, quiet and affordable mobile home community… where you will look forward to coming home to at night.’ In recent years, abandoned homes have been replaced by ‘newer and much nicer homes,’ while the park boasts ‘spectacular landscaping’ and Christmas decorations ‘get bigger and more elaborate every year.’

But it seems that has not always been the case. ‘This park has actually been around since the ’70s and it used to be considered a nice place to live. Then the previous owner bought it and it totally went to hell,’ the website continues. 

‘Every bad type of person you can imagine lived here. That all changed in 2007 when the business changed owners. The bad people and all the “drama” are gone… East Palestine is one of those sleepy little towns where nothing ever happens.’

Earlier this year, however, a report revealed that between 2019 and 2025 Columbiana County – where East Palestine sits – had seen 710 arrests on charges of buying sex. Nowhere else in Ohio had more than 383.

In a recent court case, meanwhile, a woman later convicted of promoting prostitution told undercover police that ‘no girls wanna go’ to East Palestine because of its history of sting operations.

On Sunday morning, York was taken into custody when an agent with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force discovered he had ‘in his possession his cellular device which was used to arrange a criminal act’, the court documents show. 

Court records also show that York, who was born 20 miles away from East Palestine in Youngstown, Ohio, was initially charged with engaging in prostitution, but prosecutors amended that to disorderly conduct. He was also charged with possessing criminal tools. 

York was sentenced to one day in jail for both offenses to be served concurrently and was credited with one day served when he pleaded no contest Monday morning. He was also fined $1,150. 

Records also show that York had a cellphone returned to him and that $160 that was seized was to be given to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of the plea agreement. He also completed an online course.

It comes after York filed for divorce from his wife, Danielle, back in May and cited irreconcilable differences. 

The couple, who got married in 2011, have two sons, Jaxon and Brixton. They have agreed to legal and physical joint custody.

The NFL said in a statement: ‘We are aware of the matter, which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy.’

The 49ers said in a statement: ‘As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time.’

York is the son of Denise DeBartolo York and John York. They took control of the 49ers when DeBartolo’s brother, Eddie, was convicted in a gambling fraud scandal. 

Jed began working for his father in the early 2000s and was eventually named the franchise’s CEO in 2008. He then became the principal owner in 2024 after acquiring enough of his mother’s stake.

During his tenure, the Niners have experienced great success, having won five NFC West titles, advanced to seven NFC Championship Games and three Super Bowls, although the team has not won the NFL’s biggest prize since 1994.

York also oversaw the building of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The team moved from San Francisco to the new stadium in 2014. The stadium has hosted two Super Bowls, a World Cup and a College Football Playoff title game.

York is also a co-owner of Premier League club Leeds United and Scottish giants Rangers.
