DHS Highlights Missed Opportunities in Six-Year Span Leading to Arrest of Illegal Immigrant in Texas Murder Cases

0

Exclusive to Fox: A shocking revelation from the Department of Homeland Security suggests that two Texas women, allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant, might still be with us today had circumstances been different. The alleged perpetrator, Luis Fernando Benítez-González, a 26-year-old from Mexico, is accused of ending the lives of 34-year-old Alyssa Ann Rivera in Austin and 28-year-old Alba Jenisse Aviles in Bastrop County, according to authorities.

Benítez-González was apprehended on April 27 in Dallas, thanks to a coordinated effort by U.S. Marshals and various law enforcement agencies. The arrest has brought renewed attention to these tragic cases, occurring six years apart, raising questions about how they could have been prevented.

Lauren Bis, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, commented on the severity of the situation, saying, “This illegal alien from Mexico is accused of murdering two women in Texas.” She also highlighted Benítez-González’s troubled past, noting his previous arrests for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of dangerous drugs.

Images associated with this case, portraying the accused and the victims, have been released by both Getty Images and the Department of Homeland Security. Bis emphasized the tragic loss, stating poignantly, “Alba Jenisse Aviles and Alyssa Ann Rivera should still be alive today.”

“Alba Jenisse Aviles and Alyssa Ann Rivera should still be alive today,” she added.

Benítez-González is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records in Travis County, where he is currently being held. He also has a previous drug possession charge, according to DHS.

He was connected to the killings through DNA evidence, authorities said.

Aviles was murdered on April 14, 2018; her body was discovered by a passing motorist. She was last seen alive at Club Caribe in Austin with an unidentified Hispanic man. Bastrop County detectives found evidence that Aviles had been dragged, strangled, and assaulted, noting mud on her clothing and feet, bruising on her neck, chin, and lip, and blood on her face and the exterior of her car.

Luis Benitez-Gonzalez has been accused of killing two women and shooting two more who survived. He is an illegal immigrant from Mexico who was voluntarily deported in 2020, according to authorities. Austin police believe there may be more victims. (Austin Police Department)

Detectives also found one of her earrings 10 feet away from the vehicle, Fox 7 Austin reported.

Benítez-González told detectives he was defending himself, claiming Aviles attacked him during an argument over drugs. He allegedly admitted to grabbing her by the neck from behind and strangling her for approximately seven minutes.

Rivera’s body was found by Austin police in an abandoned home on June 21, 2024. She was discovered with an extension cord wrapped around her neck. Police also found a bloody rock, bloody handprints, and evidence that Rivera had been forcibly dragged into the house and assaulted.

A medical examiner determined Rivera had been struck in the head and nose. Surveillance footage showed her walking with a man shortly before she was killed. In that case, Benítez-González claimed Rivera tried to strangle him with a seatbelt, which he then turned on her, according to reports.

“There was DNA found at both scenes,” APD Sgt. Nathan Sexton said in 2024. “Multiple sources of DNA at both scenes, but the same suspect links back in both cases.”

The suspect, however, was not in the police database because he had no prior arrest record. In December 2025, Austin detectives were notified of two incidents where a man shot two women in separate attacks weeks apart. Authorities later received a tip that Benítez-González was the shooter and was attempting to sell firearms in an effort to flee the United States.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office for further comment.

Trump’s Grand Beijing Welcome: Key Power Players Join the Diplomatic Spotlight

0

The U.S. Senate has officially confirmed Kevin Warsh as the new leader of the Federal Reserve, marking a significant change in leadership at a time when the global economy is facing considerable challenges. Warsh, nominated by President Donald Trump, steps into a role at the helm of the world’s most influential central bank.

Warsh’s confirmation came through in an overnight session, primarily supported along party lines. His path to the position had been uncertain for a while due to objections from Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina. Tillis had previously vowed to block the nomination amidst a Justice Department investigation into the then-Fed Chair Jerome Powell. However, the investigation was concluded in April, paving the way for Warsh’s approval by the Senate.

In advocating for Warsh’s confirmation, Senate Majority Leader John Thune emphasized the importance of having a Fed chair who grasps both the broader economic picture and the details that affect everyday Americans. Thune stressed the necessity for a leader who can balance macroeconomic understanding with a sensitivity to the microeconomy, which includes the jobs and livelihoods of hardworking citizens.

“Kevin Warsh embodies these qualities,” Thune asserted, underscoring his confidence in Warsh’s capabilities.

At 56, Warsh, who has previously held a senior position within the Federal Reserve, is stepping into this pivotal role at a particularly challenging period for the institution. His leadership will undoubtedly be tested as he navigates the complexities of the current economic landscape.

Inflation has topped the Fed’s 2 per cent target for five years and is now rising faster because of spiking gas prices. The Fed’s interest rate-setting committee is divided and saw the most dissenting votes in more than three decades last month.

And Powell, after years of personal attacks from the Republican president and an unprecedented legal investigation by the Justice Department, plans to stay on the Fed’s board even after his term as chair ends, potentially creating a competing power center.

The Fed has faced numerous threats to its independence from Trump, who has repeatedly attacked Powell for not cutting interest rates. Trump also sought to fire Fed governor Lisa Cook and launched an investigation into brief Senate testimony by Powell on a building renovation.

Gigi Hadid Sports Necklace Paying Tribute to Partner Bradley Cooper

0

Gigi Hadid appears to carry a piece of Bradley Cooper’s presence with her at all times.

On Tuesday, Hadid gave her fans a glimpse of her current necklace ensemble via social media. The ensemble included a striking yellow opal necklace and a gold chain adorned with a personalized dog tag. This particular piece of jewelry paid homage to her relationship with Cooper.

The pendant, subtly lined with diamonds, featured an engraving of the initials “G” and “B,” separated by a heart, symbolizing their connection.

Hadid captioned the snapshot of her jewelry with, “love 🌻 🌻 thank you queen @sheryllowejewelry,” acknowledging the creator behind the exquisite pieces.

Sheryl Lowe, the jeweler based in Montecito, California, and also known as Rob Lowe’s wife of 35 years, re-shared Hadid’s post. She offered a closer look at the intricately designed pendant and highlighted the opal necklace, which fittingly goes by the name Gigi Knotted Necklace, priced at $2,200.

Hadid’s custom pendant retails for $2,995, and was on the jeweler’s link necklace with diamond clasp.

While Hadid and Cooper have yet to make a red carpet appearance arm-in-arm, Cooper quietly joined Hadid inside last week’s Met Gala — choosing to skip the iconic stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

When interviewed by Vogue on the red carpet, Hadid called Cooper her “happy place” — second to only her daughter, Khai, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik.

The couple are, however, often seen out and about on date nights and heading to private events and, after more than two years of dating, are apparently heading towards a different piece of jewelry: an engagement ring.

Understanding ‘Grandfathering’ and New Builds: Discover Who Benefits from Housing Tax Breaks

0

In Brief

  • The government has faced criticisms for grandfathering changes to CGT and negative gearing.
  • The new measures hope to shift investor behaviour towards new builds.

While recent tax reforms unveiled in the budget are not a complete solution to Australia’s housing challenges, they aim to redirect investment towards newly constructed homes, thereby enhancing supply.

The Albanese administration has implemented significant changes to housing tax concessions that have, over the last 20 years, significantly reshaped the Australian housing market.

Nevertheless, the government is under scrutiny for “grandfathering” certain elements of these reforms. Critics argue that the changes fall short and miss an opportunity to increase revenue.

On Wednesday, Treasurer Jim Chalmers advocated for the reforms, asserting that Labor has found the “right balance” while acknowledging the investments Australians have previously made in housing.

“We’ve managed to honor past investments while simultaneously reforming the system for future needs. This allows us to maintain a discount in the CGT system, calculated in a way that reduces some of these existing distortions,” he explained at the National Press Club.

Here are all the key terms and what the budget changes are aiming to do.

What are the changes to CGT and negative gearing?

The capital gains tax discount allowed Australians selling assets held for at least a year to only pay tax on half of their profits.

This will be reduced to allowing a discount in line with inflation, otherwise known as the real gain, a measure closer to the Keating 1999 model.

Investors will also be forced to pay a minimum of 30 per cent on any additional gains from July 2027. Anyone building a new property will be able to choose between the old 50 per cent CGT discount or new arrangements.

From 1 July 2027, negative gearing, the ability of an investor to offset any income from an investment against any losses or costs involved in maintaining it, will apply to newly built residential properties.

Both changes will be grandfathered, but more about that later on.

Independent economist Saul Eslake said these changes aim to reduce or eliminate the tax concessions enjoyed by investors who buy existing homes, seeking to funnel them into building or buying new homes.

“It might disincentivise investors from spending borrowed money buying properties that already exist so that they can rent them out to people who can’t afford to buy them,” he said.

He told SBS News that investors buying existing homes does two things; puts upward pressure on house prices and increase demand for rental housing when they outbid potential first home buyers at auctions.

Eslake said the changes are not a “silver bullet” but make a “helpful contribution to reversing the slide in home ownership”, but realistically won’t have an adverse impact on supply or rents.

Should CGT and negative gearing be ‘grandfathered’?

Grandfathering means that old rules will apply to investments bought under the old system.

This means homes currently negatively geared are unaffected, allowing owners to continue to write off losses until the property is sold.

The new CGT changes will only apply to gains made from July 2027.

Dr Pradeep Philip, an economist at Deloitte Access Economics, argues that this shifts some of the integernational fairness that has locked young people out of the housing market, while dealing with the practicality that some people bought a home under different rules.

“There are people who already own houses, and you don’t want wealth destruction to take place at too great a rate, and so that’s why the government has struck this middle ground by grandfathering,” he told SBS News.

“But over time, these changes, along with changes in building approvals, technology, skills, recognition and labor supply, these things together, including activities by the states and territories, should make this easier for Australians to get into their homes.”

Eslake sympathises with criticisms around grandfathering, stating it “privileges people on the basis of birth order”, favouring those who invested before the budget.

But like Philip, he highlights some may find it unfair for the government to change the rules.

“I’d prefer to have them grandfathered and the changes made, than to have no changes made at all, and that’s obviously the choice that the government felt it was confronted with,” he added.

What are new builds?

The reforms are geared towards boosting the supply of new homes by incentivising investors to buy new builds instead of established properties.

New builds eligible under the negative gearing changes will be homes not previously sold, including those built on vacant land or bought off the plan.

Where a property is demolished, it will only be eligible if it is replaced with a greater number of homes, therefore increasing the overall supply.

GFX 130526 NEW BUILD ELIGIBILITY DATA VIS

A granny flat on an existing property, a renovation that adds bedrooms or a home replacing an older home, will not count.

Who will get tax perks under the scheme?

Eslake said the main winners will be investors who put their money into new builds. Not only will they be able to negatively gear but they can also choose which CGT regime applies when they sell their property, allowing them to pay more tax.

Senator Rand Paul Clashes with CIA Officer Over Allegations of Dr. Fauci’s Influence on COVID-19 Investigation

0

A seasoned CIA officer made waves in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday with claims that Dr. Anthony Fauci intentionally skewed intelligence analyses regarding the origins of COVID-19. Allegedly, Fauci directed federal probes away from the lab leak hypothesis and towards a conclusion favoring a natural origin. From the outset, it was suggested that Fauci carefully selected experts, influenced the investigation process, and utilized researchers reliant on grants to ensure the intelligence community aligned with his preferred narrative. This hearing confirmed the suspicions of many Americans: the government knew it was disseminating falsehoods.

James Erdman III, a CIA special operations officer with 13 years of service, made his first public appearance during the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee meeting after being subpoenaed—a move his agency attempted to prevent. Interestingly, no Democrats were present; each one opted to skip a public session focused on a potential government cover-up concerning a pandemic that claimed over a million American lives. The hearing was presided over by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Fauci’s strategy reportedly involved selecting experts for consultation who were inclined to dismiss the lab leak theory, including contributors to the controversial 2020 “Proximal Origin” paper. Initially, these authors considered the possibility of a Wuhan lab origin but changed their stance following a Zoom call with Fauci and NIH leadership. Notably, one author received a $9 million grant from Fauci’s agency after reversing his position.

This situation did not arise in isolation; it was facilitated by an existing network, with those conducting the investigation being accountable to the same institutional structure that supported it.

Wuhan Lab Funder Daszak Served as Facebook Fact-Checker and on WHO Investigation Team

CIA analysts reached the same conclusion repeatedly between 2021 and 2023: a lab leak was the most likely origin. Those findings never reached Congress or the public. Erdman rejected reports of direct bribes but said the outcome was arguably worse: “Six of the seven technical experts say, ‘Yep, we still think it’s a lab leak.’ And they were sticking to their guns. Management changed the analytic line.”

That management capitulation didn’t happen in a vacuum. It happened because the network was already in place, and the people running the investigation were answerable to the same institutional circles that built it.

Wuhan Lab Funder Daszak Served as Facebook Fact-Checker and on WHO Investigation Team

The structural conflict ran deep, and it didn’t start with Fauci alone. Fauci’s agency funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and Fauci was then invited into classified deliberations to assess whether that research caused the pandemic. Researcher Ralph Baric collaborated with Wuhan’s Dr. Zhengli Shi to engineer gain-of-function coronaviruses, then sat on the Biological Sciences Experts Group advising the intelligence community on COVID’s origins. Peter Daszak received hundreds of millions in U.S. government funding, worked with Shi on the same experiments, and was dispatched to China with the WHO to investigate the outbreak he may have helped cause. This is the network. The same people who funded the research, ran the research, and partnered with Chinese Communist Party-linked scientists were then handed the keys to the investigation. That isn’t independent expertise — it’s a closed loop, and it was built that way.

“It was not until after the 2024 election that the outgoing Biden Administration directed the CIA to issue an assessment — not because of new intelligence, but so officials could walk out the door claiming there was nothing left to find,” Paul said. “That is not analysis. That is a cleanup operation.”

The CIA’s response was to attack the process rather than the evidence — calling the hearing “dishonest political theater” and dismissing Erdman as a subpoena witness rather than a truth-teller. It was a classic bureaucratic deflection: Impugn the messenger, ignore the message, and hope nobody reads past the first paragraph. It didn’t work. The Agency’s own statement contained the line that blew up the whole attack: “As the CIA has already assessed, COVID-19 most likely originated from a lab leak.” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) read it aloud and demanded a public apology from CIA Director John Ratcliffe. He didn’t get one — but the contradiction was already on the record, in the CIA’s own words.

Erdman further testified that the CIA is withholding up to 2,000 pages of classified COVID origins material in violation of a 2023 law requiring disclosure — and that whistleblowers conducting the review were illegally surveilled by the very agency they were investigating.

More than a million Americans died. Children lost years of education. Businesses were destroyed. Vaccine mandates were imposed under emergency authorities built, according to Wednesday’s testimony, on an origins narrative the government had reason to doubt from the start. The American people are owed the complete record — and accountability for everyone who helped hide it.

Teen Admits Guilt in Federal Drug and Firearm Charges

By Staff Writers

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old Gainesville resident, DaMorie Lamontay Miles, has entered a guilty plea in federal court to charges of intending to distribute marijuana and dealing with an unregistered firearm. The announcement of the plea was made by John P. Heekin, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

U.S. Attorney Heekin stated, “Engaging in drug trafficking and handling illegal firearms in the Northern District of Florida leads directly to federal incarceration. Our office is committed to enforcing this through Operation Take Back America, which pledges to devote extensive resources to ensure our communities remain safe and free from drugs. This successful prosecution exemplifies that commitment.”

Initial Arrest Details

Miles was taken into custody on September 3, 2025, in Gainesville. He faced state charges for selling marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and using a property to facilitate drug sales. This arrest followed the execution of a search warrant at his home while he was under house arrest. Subsequently, Miles was also charged with attempted premeditated murder, firing into a dwelling, and conspiracy to commit murder, after police alleged that he had directed two juveniles to open fire on an occupied residence.

Court records reflect that the defendant was communicating via text message and social media with others to buy and sell marijuana and to obtain a machine gun conversion device (MCD). The MCD and 600 grams of marijuana were found when the search warrant was executed at his residence.

If convicted on all counts, Miles faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment.

The case is being jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Gainesville Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christie S. Utt.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

Actress Allegedly at the Center of Brigitte’s Notorious Slap Incident with Emmanuel

0

According to a new book, Brigitte Macron’s well-known slap of her husband, Emmanuel Macron, was triggered by a message from Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani found on his phone.

In a video that went viral last May, the French first lady was captured pushing President Macron’s face as they were about to disembark a plane in Vietnam.

At the time, Macron downplayed the incident, describing it as ‘nothing’ and claiming it was merely playful ‘bickering’ with his wife.

However, French journalist Florian Tardif offers a different narrative in his book, “A (Nearly) Perfect Couple,” which aims to explore the ‘forbidden zones’ of the couple’s relationship.

During an interview on RTL radio, Tardif—a Paris Match journalist who has been covering the Macrons since 2017—characterized the incident as a typical ‘couple’s scene.’

‘What happened is that she [Brigitte Macron], saw a message from a well-known figure. An Iranian actress: Golshifteh Farahani,’ he said.

Tardif claims that Macron maintained a ‘platonic’ relationship with the acclaimed star ‘for a few months’, but sent her ‘messages that went quite far’, such as: ‘I find you very pretty.’

Born in Tehran, Farahani is a 42-year-old actress who now lives in exile after refusing to wear a hijab while acting in international films.

In the viral video from May last year, the first lady was seen pushing the French president in the face as the couple prepared to get off a plane in Vietnam

‘That’s what I’ve been told by those close to him, and that’s what I’m saying this morning,’ Tardif said in the interview, insisting he has ‘verified’ the story and that everything in his book is based on ‘facts’.

These messages caused ‘tension’ within the couple, culminating in a heated and ‘significant’ argument aboard the presidential plane on the tarmac at Hanoi airport, the journalist claimed.

‘This private scene became public because there was a misunderstanding on the plane. We thought the argument was over. It wasn’t,’ he concluded.

Tardif claimed the Elysee actually regretted not being honest about the dispute, ‘simply because they could have shown at that moment that they were a couple, a real couple, not a perfect couple’.

At the time, an Elysee official described the episode as ‘a moment when the president and his wife were relaxing one last time before the start of the trip by having a laugh’.

This is not the first time rumours surrounding Macron and Farahani have surfaced.

The actress has previously dismissed any speculation, however, telling Gala magazine last year: ‘It comes in waves, it appears, disappears… I watch, I observe: what can I do? It doesn’t even bother me. What’s the point?’

She added: ‘The question is why people are interested in this kind of story. I think there’s a lack of love in some people, and they need to create such romances to fill that void.’

In 2008, Farahani became the first Iran-based actor to have a role in a Hollywood film since the 1979 revolution, starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Ridley Scott’s CIA thriller Body of Lies.

She was then banned from working in Tehran by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, for not wearing a headscarf at the film’s New York premiere.

In 2011, she was again condemned by the regime after bearing her breast in a short video to promote the Césars, the ‘French Oscars’, where she had been nominated for her role in the immigrant comedy ‘Si Tu Meurs, Je Te Tue’ (If You Die, I’ll Kill You).

The short black-and-white promo had each actor remove an item of clothing as they stared into the camera to commit their ‘body and soul’ to their art. Farahani chose to show her right breast, saying: ‘I will put flesh to your dreams.’

That same day, the Islamic Republic’s official Fars news agency issued a communique attacking her, saying that the pictures showed the ‘hidden, disgusting face of cinema’.

Following the anti-regime protests in Tehran in January, where tens of thousands of civilians were killed by the authorities, she took to Instagram to share her solidarity with her home country.

‘Iran is on fire once again. My heart beats with the people of Iran,’ she wrote.

Should a leader’s private relationship drama affect how we view their ability to govern?

Brigitte Macron’s representatives denied to Le Parisien on Wednesday that the scene was linked to the Iranian actress and further emphasised that the French first lady would never check her husband’s phone.

‘Brigitte Macron categorically denied this account directly to the author on March 5, specifying that she never looks at her husband’s mobile phone,’ the president’s entourage said, adding that this detail had not been published by the author.

In April, Donald Trump made a mocking reference to the infamous episode in a speech at the White House, provoking fierce condemnation across France.

‘Then I call up France, Macron – whose wife treats him extremely badly – he’s still recovering from the right to the jaw,’ the US President joked at the White House Easter lunch, eliciting laughter from the audience.

Macron immediately responded, saying the comments about his marriage were ‘neither elegant nor up to standard’.

The joke sparked widespread anger among politicians across the country, including Macron’s critics.

Even Manuel Bompard, coordinator of the hard-Left France Unbowed party, rushed to his defence.

‘You are aware of the extent of my disagreements with the president, but for Donald Trump to speak to him like that and to speak of his wife in such a manner – I find that absolutely unacceptable,’ Bompard told broadcaster BFMTV.

The 25-year age gap of France’s first couple has long sparked spirited debate.

Brigitte, 73, first met Emmanuel, 48, when he was a 15-year-old in her drama class in a Catholic school in Amiens, northern France.

She was 39, married, with a son and two daughters, the eldest of which shared a class with the future president.

In An (Almost) Perfect Couple, Tardif purports to revisit all the major decisions, turning points and controversies that have defined Macron’s nine years in office.

In 2017, at the dawn of his first term, he claims Macron confided to a close friend: ‘If Brigitte is unhappy, I won’t be able to cope and I’ll fail this five-year term.’

Representatives of Golshifteh Farahani did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Tragic Hit-and-Run in Chicago: Police Hunt for Orange Honda After Enrique Nieto’s Fatal Crash in West Lawn

A tragic hit-and-run incident unfolded late Tuesday night in Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood, leaving one man dead. Authorities have confirmed the sequence of events that transpired shortly after 11 p.m. on South Pulaski Road.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Enrique Nieto, the victim, was with his nephew, Cesar Nieto, dealing with a flat tire when the catastrophe struck. Cesar recounted the moment his uncle reached out to him for assistance with the tire on Pulaski, an act of familial support that would soon turn fateful.

Security cameras captured the harrowing scene as the pair worked on the vehicle. An orange Honda SUV barreled northward, striking Enrique while still crouched by the tire, police reported. The driver callously fled the scene, leaving devastation in their wake.

“I was right there, next to him,” Cesar recounted, describing the split-second decision to leap out of harm’s way. Despite his proximity to the back bumper, Cesar managed to avoid the SUV, but tragically, Enrique could not escape in time.

“I was next to him. So I jumped out the way because I was closest to the back bumper and he was by the tire crouched down,” Cesar said.

Cesar told ABC7 Enrique was trapped under the vehicle and was dragged several feet.

He tended to his uncle before an ambulance could get there.

“I was just trying to keep him breathing, talking to him,” Cesar said.

Prosecutors Criticize Luigi Mangione Defense for ‘Intrusive’ Juror Inquiries in Federal Case

0

Prosecutors in the case against Luigi Mangione have expressed concerns over what they describe as overly invasive tactics by the defense team, aimed at probing jurors’ personal lives.

In a filing submitted on Monday, federal prosecutors addressed a series of questions proposed by Mangione’s defense attorneys, which have not yet been disclosed to the public. Deputy U.S. Attorney Sean Buckley criticized some of these questions, labeling them as “unnecessarily intrusive.” Mangione is facing charges for the alleged assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Buckley specifically took issue with a particular question from the defense, which he argues encroaches too deeply into the personal lives of potential jurors.

Luigi Mangione attending an evidentiary hearing in a courtroom

Mangione appeared at an evidentiary hearing for the murder case of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, held at the Manhattan Supreme Court in New York on December 18, 2025.

“The disputed Question 14(a) is problematic,” Buckley noted, highlighting that it seeks detailed personal information from jurors, including the ages, genders, occupations, and educational backgrounds of their children, which he deemed excessively intrusive.

Another question disputed by federal prosecutors asks potential jurors “how often they attend religious services.”

“This question is inappropriate because a juror’s religious practices have no bearing on the juror’s fitness to serve,” Buckley wrote.

One of the other questions opposed by federal prosecutors asks if potential jurors have been “targeted” or “investigated” in connection with a criminal matter, which Buckley says “is not appropriate.”

“Where proposed questions are duplicative, seek highly personal information unrelated to juror impartiality, or risk embedding advocacy and legal argument into the voir dire process itself, this Court should decline to include them,” Buckley wrote.

Mangione faces state and federal charges in connection with his alleged assassination of Thompson. His federal trial is currently scheduled to begin in October.

In April, a judge overseeing Mangione’s state court case moved the trial date from June 8 to Sept. 8. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Mangione’s defense team for comment.

NBA Star Jaren Jackson Jr. Heartbroken Over Sudden Passing of Teammate Brandon Clarke

0

For over six seasons, a deep friendship blossomed between Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brandon Clarke, to the extent that Jackson often regarded Clarke as his “twin.”

Countless hours spent practicing with the Memphis Grizzlies, coupled with shared travels and meals in unusual locales, forged a bond between the two akin to that of family members.

Jackson’s world was shaken when he received the heartbreaking news that his dear friend and Utah Jazz player, Brandon Clarke, had passed away at the age of 29 this past Monday.

“I never envisioned a reality where this could happen. I love you eternally, brother. This is utterly devastating. I wish I could speak to you one last time. You meant so much to so many, and even more to me,” Jackson expressed in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday. “There are no words to capture this feeling. It’s still unbelievable. To your family, friends, and everyone you touched, you were a beacon of light, always genuine and sincere. Our friendship transcended the basketball court.”

“I have truly lost my twin. I will continue to talk to you always. Your memory will be eternally cherished and missed.”

Clarke, who joined the Grizzlies for the 2019-20 season, one year after Jackson’s debut campaign, was found dead at a residence in San Fernando Valley on Monday night, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Police are investigating the death as a potential overdose after they found drug paraphernalia at the California abode, and an autopsy will reveal the official cause.

This past season marked Clarke’s seventh with Memphis, and he and Jackson helped lead the team to four playoff berths during their time together.

Memphis made the playoffs with the two in three straight seasons from 2021-23, including a conference semifinals run in 2013, and then returned again in 2025.

This year marked the second down season in the last three years and the Grizzlies sent Jackson to the Jazz in an attempt to rebuild.

Clarke only appeared in two games for Memphis this past year while battling injuries.
