The studios were founded in in 1976 by English record producer Mickie Most – who was known for his hits with the Animals, Jeff Beck, Donovan, Suzi Quatro and Kim Wilde, among others. He was also a recording artist, record label boss and TV producer.

In recent years, the studios have been home to record makers such as Ed Sheeran, 33, Adele, 35, Sir Rod Stewart, 79, and David Bowie, who died aged 69 in 2016.

New music from Styles is highly anticipated with many fans pleading for a 2024 album.

Unveiling the Mystery: Jeffrey Epstein’s Alleged Suicide Note Released by Court

0

In Brief

  • The handwritten note was said to have been discovered by Jeffrey Epstein’s former cellmate.
  • The unauthenticated letter is ostensibly from Epstein’s unsuccessful suicide attempt in July 2019.

Editor’s Note: This article discusses the topic of suicide.

A U.S. judge has unveiled a document reportedly penned by the late Jeffrey Epstein, labeled as a suicide note. Epstein, who was a convicted sex offender, left behind this handwritten message, which was discovered by a former cellmate.

The note, previously kept under wraps in a courthouse vault for almost five years, became public on Wednesday. It was part of an unrelated legal case and only came to light following a request from The New York Times.

In response to this request, U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas from White Plains, New York, decided to release the document. The petition was part of a larger effort to unseal materials concerning Epstein’s cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione.

The judge clarified the reasoning for his decision, stating, “No party has identified any competing consideration that would justify sealing the Note.”

Karas said existing case law suggests that the privacy interests of a deceased person, such as Epstein, “are vastly reduced and disclosure of the deceased’s information is unlikely to ‘work a concrete harm’”.

The letter, which is handwritten on lined paper and has not been authenticated, dates to what was believed to be Epstein’s unsuccessful suicide attempt in July 2019, less than two weeks before he died.

Few people had known about the note until Tartaglione, a former police officer who is serving a life sentence for killing four people, mentioned it on a podcast last year.

The Times newspaper reported the note was never seen by federal investigators and was absent from millions of Epstein-related documents recently released by the US Justice Department.

Tartaglione claimed he discovered it in a book in his cell after Epstein was found after the suicide attempt on 23 July 2019.

“They investigated me for month — found nothing!!! So 15 year old charges resulted,” said the short note, which is hard to decipher in some places.

“It is a treat to be able to choose” the “time to say goodbye,” the note continues. “Watcha want me to do — Bust out cryin!!”

“NO FUN,” it concludes, with those words underlined. “NOT WORTH IT!!”

Epstein’s name is not mentioned in the note, which is not signed.

Officials said they found a handwritten note in Epstein’s cell at the time of his death, but that it didn’t appear to be a suicide note.

Rather, they said, it appeared to be a list of grievances about conditions at the jail, including about food, showers and the presence of bugs.

Epstein was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre, a federal jail in Manhattan, on 10 August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The medical examiner ruled it a suicide and authorities have pointed to a series of missteps by jail personnel — including browsing the internet and sleeping when they should’ve been checking on Epstein — for allowing him to take his own life.

Gwyneth Paltrow Faces Backlash for Comments on ‘Rich White Dudes’ Amidst Her Own $200M Fortune

0

Gwyneth Paltrow has recently faced backlash for comments perceived as disconnected from reality while discussing wealth disparity.

In a recent installment of “The Goop Podcast,” the 53-year-old actress engaged in a conversation with Kara Swisher. They delved into the impact of Silicon Valley’s tech titans on global society, probing how wealth became a dominating cultural value.

Paltrow questioned, “How did we arrive at this cultural juncture? It’s clear that enormous revenue and profit are central to this issue.”

She continued by pondering, “How did we evolve into a society where only the wealth of predominantly affluent white males seems significant, as they bend rules and appear indifferent to the consequences on health and culture?”

Swisher shared an anecdote about interviewing Meta’s CEO, noting his apparent belief that he isn’t accountable for the broader repercussions of his actions. She emphasized society’s “idolization of innovators and wealth,” suggesting a prevalent mindset that equates financial success with intelligence.

While many were happy this conversation was being had, many took issue with the fact that Paltrow was the one facilitating the conversation.

“Super rich white dudes? Coming from Paltrow that is kinda funny,” one fan wrote in the comments section of an Instagram post promoting the podcast.

“This is quite ironic when both of these people are surrounded with wealth. Gwen, your brand is crazy expensive. What?” another added.

“Gwyneth is worth 200 million so not necessarily considered ‘the rest of us,’” a third commenter added, while a fourth wrote, “Ummmmmm, wut Gwen? Pot, meet kettle.”

According to a New York Times article published in April 2023, Paltrow is worth an estimated $200 million.

The “Shakespeare In Love” actress has gotten backlash many times in the past for promoting expensive wellness products and an unhealthy lifestyle, with many calling her out of touch over the years.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in December 2025, the “Marty Supreme” star shared that she is aware of her reputation and went into detail about how her “privileged” upbringing has fed into years of criticism and explained how she works through the many misconceptions surrounding her reputation.

“It must be a quality that I give off. I come from a very WASPy mother with Mayflower-ish roots, daughter of the American Revolution, all that kind of stuff,” said Paltrow.

“So, I think maybe epigenetically, there is some of that there. And I was a very privileged kid.

“I grew up on the Upper East Side, and I went to a great school and all the things. So, some of the stuff that he sees, which is also the stuff I’ve been criticized for my whole life, is real.”

Paltrow is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and late TV director Bruce Paltrow and a goddaughter to Steven Spielberg.

Paltrow went on to say that she finds it “traumatic to be at the whim of these projections,” when she feels that they are “misaligned” with who she actually is.

“My therapist talks about the evil shadow, which is the part of you where rage lives — the part of you that will burn the f—ing house down — and we do damage to ourselves by not embracing our shadows.

“When you close your eyes and get into evil shadow energy, there’s a freedom there, and I’m trying to experiment with that because when I go into evil shadow energy, I don’t care what anyone’s misperception is.”

Accelerate Belly Fat Loss After 60: Top 4 Standing Exercises That Outperform Traditional Gym Classes

If you’re looking to trim down that stubborn belly pooch, there are some effective exercises you can do right at home.

While many people enjoy the structured environment and camaraderie of gym classes, others find that the convenience of at-home workouts suits them best. For those who prefer exercising in their own space, standing exercises offer a fantastic option.

For many individuals over 60, shedding excess belly fat is a common goal. Beyond aesthetics, this visceral fat, which surrounds your internal organs, can elevate the risk of chronic health issues like type-2 diabetes, heart disease, and inflammation. Unfortunately, as metabolism slows and muscle mass decreases with age, burning off this fat becomes more challenging. It might seem daunting, but the right approach can make a significant difference.

To guide you on this journey, we consulted with Liz Hilliard, the visionary behind Hilliard Studio Method, who brings over two decades of expertise in personal and group fitness training. She has developed four standing exercises specifically designed to help reduce belly pooch more effectively than traditional gym classes for those over 60.

To help you out, we spoke with Liz Hilliard, Creator + Owner of Hilliard Studio Method, who has more than 20 years of experience in personal and group training. She put together four standing exercises that can help shrink belly pooch faster than traditional gym classes after 60.

“After 60, the midsection shifts in nearly everyone. It’s really not about effort; it’s biology working differently,” Hilliard tells us. “For women, the decline of estrogen signals the body to move fat storage from hips and thighs directly to the abdomen. The deep core and pelvic floor lose structural tone, and visceral fat begins to expand around the middle of the body. For men, testosterone drops gradually after 40 and loss accelerates after 60. Lower testosterone means more muscle loss and abdominal fat storage. The classic ‘beer belly’ is often less about diet and more about hormonal shifts.”

That’s where these standing at-home exercises come in clutch. As you age, you need to work your body in a more efficient manner. Hilliard says strength training is “the great equalizer,” helping to rebuild lean muscle, restore metabolic function, and rebalance hormones naturally.

“Hilliard Studio Method, the workout I created, combines Pilates and low-intensity strength training, focusing on rebuilding the deep core structural support system that holds the midsection in. The body after 60 isn’t declining. It’s asking for a different kind of work,” Hilliard tells us. “Traditional gym classes often fall short for older adults’ midsection because they prioritize surface muscles over deep core. Most group fitness classes lean on crunches, sit-ups, and high-rep ab work, all of which target the rectus abdominis (the ‘six-pack’ muscle) while largely ignoring the transverse abdominis, pelvic floor, and multifidus: the deep stabilizers which actually support posture, protect the spine, and create functional core strength which can decline significantly with age.”

Below, Hilliard shares four standing exercises to prioritize if you want to lean out your midsection. Set yourself up for this exercise flow by standing tall with your ears stacked over your shoulders, knees, and ankles, keeping your chin parallel to the ground. Place your hands on your core with your thumbs at the lowest rib and your pinkies on your hip bones. Breathe in through the nose as your core expands. Deeply exhale through the mouth as you draw your navel in toward your spine to contract and connect the ab muscles. Now, it’s time to begin.

High Knee March

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees soft. Make sure your spine is long and your arms are crossed high in a “genie” position.
  2. Then, lift one knee up toward your chest.
  3. Lower it.
  4. Lift the other knee up toward your chest.
  5. For added intensity, pump your arms overhead or hold light weights.
  6. March for 30 seconds.

Marching Oblique Twists

  1. Begin standing tall with your hands placed behind your head and elbows out wide.
  2. Bring your right knee up and toward your left side as your left elbow reaches toward the outside of the right knee.
  3. March for 30 seconds.

Standing Woodchops

  1. Stand tall with your hands clasped together and your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Sweep your hands diagonally high to low, starting over your left shoulder and moving down toward your right hip, contracting your abs as you do so.
  3. Reverse the motion.
  4. Perform 10 reps on each side.

Standing Oblique Punches

  1. Begin standing tall with your knees slightly bent.
  2. Position your fists at your chest and engage your core.
  3. Punch forward across your body with your right fist, rotating your torso and pivoting your right foot to the left, then move in the opposite direction.
  4. Punch twist for 30 seconds.

“Repeat this circuit three times. Adding these exercises, even just one, at different intervals throughout will combat stagnation and keep the body moving and the core engaged,” Hilliard says.

Ioan Gruffudd Faces Significant Decline in Earnings Amid Alice Evans’ Alleged Career Sabotage Efforts

0

Actor Ioan Gruffudd has seen his annual earnings drop dramatically from $585,000 to $125,000, reportedly due to what his legal team describes as his ex-wife Alice Evans’ ‘malicious and slanderous’ actions against him. This revelation was brought to light by Gruffudd’s attorney during a court session in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

According to lawyer Joseph Langlois, Evans, 57, embarked on a ‘five-year campaign of false narratives’ aimed at destroying her former husband’s career in the entertainment industry. Langlois argued that Evans’ actions were successful in causing significant damage.

‘The emotional and financial toll on Ioan and his new wife, Bianca Wallace, has been considerable,’ Langlois stated, highlighting Evans’ continuous breach of a restraining order intended to prevent her from sharing false and harmful statements about the couple online.

In his closing remarks at the tense trial, Langlois requested that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Convey terminate the spousal support Gruffudd is obligated to pay Evans. The actor claims he has already ‘overpaid her by nearly $400,000’ and cites her abusive behavior as further justification for ending the payments.

On the other hand, Evans is seeking a court order to increase the $1,500 monthly spousal support she receives from Gruffudd. Additionally, he is already contributing $3,570 a month in child support for their daughters, Ella, 16, and Elsie, 12.

In March, during the first phase of the trial, Judge Convey slapped Evans with a five-year restraining order over her barrage of negative online posts about Gruffudd, and his second wife, Australian actress Wallace, 33.

On Wednesday, Langlois told the court that in the three years before Gruffudd and Evans split in early 2021, he was earning an average of $585,000 a year ‘as an A-list actor in high demand.’

But in the four years since their breakup ‘his income dropped to an average of $125,000 a year….He is struggling every single month. He had to borrow money to pay for daily necessities.’

Langlois said the drop in Gruffudd’s fortunes was a result of damage to his reputation caused by Evans ‘20,000[ social media posts’ over five years, about he and Wallace, many of them ‘horrendously negative,’ some of them falsely accusing him of being a ‘deadbeat dad, a child abuser, a pedophile.’

Her barrage of abusive social media posts ‘were calculated to damage, if not destroy, his public image and his career as an actor,’ he added.

Langlois argued that Gruffudd’s spousal support payments to Evans should be terminated because, if he continued pay his abuser, that would a victim financing his own abuse.’

Talking of the ’emotional scars’ Evans’ abuse has left, Langlois said that Gruffudd has spent many years, starting as a child actor, building a respected track record in his profession.

‘Once that reputation is ruined, it’s practically impossible to recover,’ said the attorney. ‘Justice demands the termination of spousal support.’

He told the court that Evans would spend four hours a day on social media, ‘claiming she was a victim when she was the perpetrator of abuse. She was feeding the monster of abuse that she created.

‘There were threats of violence against Ioan and Bianca from the followers who drank Alice’s concoction of abuse.’

Langlois said that while Evans had ‘shed a few tears’ of regret over her campaign of abuse against Gruffudd and Wallace, ‘There has been no real remorse.’

Do public celebrity disputes help uncover the truth – or just make painful break-ups even worse?

Citing provisions in the former couple’s original pre-marital agreement, Langlois maintained that Gruffudd ‘overpaid’ Evans to the tune of $359,000 in the three years after their split.

‘Alice lived rent-free in their former home and he paid all her expenses for two years.’

The lawyer told the court that Evans was making no effort’ to contribute to her own support by not looking for acting work or jobs in other fields, ‘even though she’s multi-talented and fluent in three or four languages.’

And he accused her of filing inaccurate and ‘materially lacking’ statements of her income and expenses to the court.

Gruffudd left his wife of 14 years in 2021 and is now married to aspiring actress Bianca Wallace, whom he met while filming the TV series Harrow in Australia while he was still married.

The couple welcomed their baby daughter in November of last year.

ITV Icon Bequeaths Substantial Estate, Omits Children from Inheritance

Renowned ITV actor Jack Shepherd left a significant legacy, bequeathing his entire estate to a single beneficiary. The star of “Wycliffe” passed away in November 2025 at the age of 85 following a brief illness. According to his agents, he died “peacefully in hospital” with his wife and family by his side. His entire fortune was left to Ann, his second wife.

At the time of his passing, Shepherd’s estate was valued at £977,511, almost reaching the £1 million mark. This amount was entrusted solely to Ann, whom he married in 1975. Notably, Shepherd did not mention any of his five children—Jan, Jake, Victoria, Catherine, and Ben—in his will.

Shepherd had two children with his first wife, Judith Harland, with whom he was married from 1965 to 1971. He later had three more children with his second wife, Ann. In addition to his children, Shepherd is survived by four grandchildren.

Last year, Markham, Froggatt & Irwin, Shepherd’s agents, confirmed his death with a statement: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the esteemed actor Jack Shepherd, who died yesterday at the age of 85.”

“He passed away peacefully in a hospital after a short illness, surrounded by his loving wife and family,” they added.

“Markham, Froggatt & Irwin are very proud and honoured to have been part of Jack’s illustrious career. His passing is a sad loss to us all. Jack is survived by his wife Ann Scott and children Jan, Jake, Victoria, Catherine and Ben.”

Jack had been an actor since he was a young man, appearing in various high-profile theatre productions – including at Shakespeare’s Globe and the National Theatre.

He also starred in everything from Bill Brand to The Golden Compass.

Florida Man Allegedly Caught Speeding at 101 mph Offers Unusual Explanation to Deputies

0

In a dramatic twist on the rush to the altar, a Florida man’s frantic bid to attend a wedding was abruptly halted by law enforcement, resulting in an unexpected detour to jail. Deputies reported that Christopher Jones, 29, found himself in handcuffs after being clocked at speeds exceeding 100 mph while allegedly trying to make it to the ceremony on time.

The incident unfolded around 9 a.m. on a Saturday in Brevard County, in the midst of a traffic enforcement initiative known as “Super Speeder Saturday.” This operation specifically targeted individuals driving at dangerously high speeds.

Deputy Caleb Sanchez, actively monitoring traffic, observed Jones speeding at 101 mph in a zone marked for 70 mph. This prompted an immediate intervention, as stated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones, clad in a sharp black suit and a white dress shirt, reportedly explained to deputies that his excessive speed was due to his tardiness for a wedding. His attire, complete with slide sandals, suggested he was indeed “dressed to impress” for the occasion, despite his hasty and hazardous journey.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office released details of Jones’ arrest, highlighting the risks associated with such reckless driving, even when motivated by personal commitments like attending a wedding.

A photo shared by the sheriff’s office shows Jones standing in front of a patrol vehicle in his formal attire, paired with casual slide sandals and socks, a detail that quickly caught the internet’s attention.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey highlighted the arrest in a social media post, calling it “Super Speeder Saturday — Wedding Crashers Edition,” and noting that Jones was “dressed to impress” when he was taken into custody.

But Ivey made clear that in Brevard County, drivers hitting triple-digit speeds shouldn’t expect a warning.

“Unfortunately for him, he didn’t realize that in Brevard County we don’t give you any warnings when it comes to violations,” the sheriff said.

Instead of making it to the ceremony, Jones was taken to the Brevard County Jail — jokingly referred to by Ivey as “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge.”

Jones, of Orange Park, was charged with operating a vehicle at 100-plus mph while threatening persons or property, a misdemeanor. He was released later that day on a $500 bond, according to jail records. A court date has not yet been set.

The post quickly drew a wave of reactions online, with some users poking fun at both the situation and Jones’ outfit.

“Everybody focused on the slides… I wanna know how you’re late for a wedding at 9AM???” one commenter wrote.

“Well, the sandals don’t scream ‘dress to impress’ for a wedding,” another added.

Others joked about the circumstances of the event itself, with one person writing, “I gotta know. Was he the groom for said wedding?” while another quipped that if so, “it looked like she got stood up at the altar.”

Authorities say the enforcement push is aimed at cracking down on reckless driving and keeping roadways safe and officials suggest there will likely be more high-speed stops to come.

Survey Reveals College Students Overestimate Starting Salaries by $24,000

A recent survey highlights a significant gap between college students’ salary expectations and the actual starting wages they are likely to earn.

According to research conducted by Clever Real Estate, undergraduates aiming for a bachelor’s degree anticipate making around $80,000 in their first year post-graduation. This figure is approximately $24,000 higher than the current average starting salary, which is $56,153.

The survey, which included responses from 769 undergraduates, found that inflated salary expectations are common across various fields of study. However, students majoring in education and nursing exhibited the greatest disparity in expected versus actual earnings.

The report noted, “Despite the historical trend of teachers being underpaid, education majors still believe they will start earning $75,186, which is about 62% higher than the likely starting salary of $46,526.”

Similarly, nursing students expect to begin their careers with a salary of $83,219, which is 32% more than the realistic figure of $63,000 for nurses with one year of experience, as indicated by Clever’s findings.

But even students in higher-earning degree programs overestimated their starting salaries. Engineers, for example, expect to start at $92,452 — roughly 17% more than the $78,731 they will likely make one year out of college, the report noted.

Starting salaries weren’t the only misjudgment – students’ mid-career expectations were off, as well. Ten years after graduation, the students surveyed expected to make around $145,000 on average, but the average mid-career salary is only $95,521, Clever said.

The gap between expectations and reality comes as millions of high school graduates weigh their college decisions.

College graduates tend to earn more and face lower unemployment than those without a degree, but the perceived value of higher education has come under pressure in recent years as student loan debt continues to climb.

The rise of artificial intelligence has added to concerns, prompting some college students to reconsider their majors as fields such as computer science face new uncertainty.

Starting salaries can vary widely by location and specialization.

A recent analysis by Redfin and Glassdoor found that college graduates earn about $80,000 early in their careers in Washington, D.C., compared with roughly $65,000 in Houston and $57,000 in New Orleans.

Meanwhile, computer engineering graduates earn about $90,000 early in their careers, compared with roughly $75,000 for general engineering majors, according to an analysis by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

ISIS Bride Detained at Sydney Airport, Faces Charges as Melbourne Group Under Customs Scrutiny

An ISIS-affiliated woman was removed from a flight originating in Syria and taken to a police station in Sydney.

On Thursday night, two flights arrived in Australia, one landing in Melbourne and the other in Sydney, carrying women associated with former ISIS fighters along with their children.

The aircraft arriving in Melbourne touched down around 5:30 PM, shortly followed by the Sydney flight landing at approximately 5:45 PM at the city’s International Airport.

Aboard the Sydney-bound flight were Janai Safar and her child.

By 7:00 PM, Safar was seen outside Mascot Police Station, which is located near Sydney Airport.

The cohort from Syria consists of four Australian women – grandmother Kawsar Abbas, 54, her two daughters Zahra Ahmad, 33, and former Sydney nursing student Zeinab Ahmed, 31, Janai Safar – and their nine children.

Kawsar and her family will land on Melbourne on Thursday on a Qatar Airway flight via Doha. She is accompanied by her brother, boxing coach Abraham Abbas.

It’s understood Kawsar and one of her two adult daughters will be arrested upon arrival and charged over serious allegations made by two women from the Yazidi community in Syria, The Australian reports.

The group of 13 left Al Roj camp two weeks ago. All of the women and children are Australian citizens and hold Australian passports.

It’s understood 21 Australians still remain in the camp, in north-eastern Syria.

Shortly before the planes touched down a large group of supporters, believed to be family and friends, arrived at both Melbourne and Sydney airports.

About a dozen large men dressed in black, some with body-worn cameras, were waiting in Melbourne, understood to be escorts for the women and children.

The supporters remain unsure how many of the group will be let through customs following warnings from police that some would be charged.

As of 7pm, none of the group who landed in Melbourne had made it land-side.

Lina Giralda, who was sat near Janai Safar on board, said she was shocked when a group of police officers came on board one the plane had landed.

She said it was ‘scary’ to know she was sat near Safar.

She said there was no reaction from Safar, her son and a man travelling with them when police came to escort her off the plane.

The passengers had to wait a few minutes for the group to leave the plane before they could disembark.

She said the group didn’t really say much and kept to themselves during the flight.

Another passenger who was on the plane that landed in Sydney said there were ‘five or six’ AFP officers that boarded the flight and tapped the group on the shoulder.

‘They were seated near me. We had some general chit chat, they seemed nice people,’ they said.

‘Then they were taken off by police.’

He said there was no announcement about what was going on by the plane crew to passengers.

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett said evidence collected since 2015 was used to determine whether the women breached Commonwealth laws, including ‘humanity offences such as engaging in slave trading’.

‘Some individuals will be arrested and charged, some will face continued investigations when they arrive in Australia,’ Ms Barrett said on Wednesday.

If the case went to court it would mark the first time any Australian citizen had been prosecuted for the crimes under domestic law.

ABC News reporter Bridget Rollason spoke to some of the women at Doha Airport while they were in transit.

‘One woman told me she missed lattes most of all and was looking forward to having a coffee on Collins Street in Melbourne,’ she said.

‘They told me they were really looking forward to getting back to Melbourne and said they missed Australia.

‘Some of the children even had Australian accents, despite being born in Syria.

‘When we spoke to the women, they appeared excited about returning home.

‘We asked how they felt about potentially being arrested, but they declined to comment. One of their uncles told us to stop filming and stop speaking to them. We were only able to have a brief conversation before they boarded the flight.’

Chronology of Tragedy: From Athena Strand’s Murder to Tanner Horner’s Death Sentence

A Texas jury has sentenced FedEx driver Tanner Horner to death for the murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand, concluding a case that has captivated national attention.

The verdict was delivered on May 5, following weeks of emotional testimonies from investigators, Athena’s grieving family, and those who knew Horner. The trial shed light on the tragic events of the case, leaving a profound impact on all involved.

Jurors were presented with haunting evidence, including video footage of Horner placing the young girl into his van after delivering a package to her home in 2022. The court also heard chilling audio recordings of the murder, forcing jurors to confront the terrifying final moments of Athena’s life before reaching their decision.

In a heartfelt statement after the verdict, Athena’s uncle, Elijah Strand, expressed the family’s anguish. “There are no words that truly capture the devastation that Tanner Horner caused us and our family,” he said, as reported by 11 Alive. “What he took from this world is not just a child… he took a light, a future, and a piece of every single person who loved her.”

The following provides a timeline of the significant events in this harrowing case that ultimately led to Horner’s sentencing.

Nov. 30, 2022: Athena Strand Disappears

The 7-year-old was last seen at her Paradise, Texas home around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2022, according to a flier from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office. Strand—who was first listed as an “endangered child”—was wearing blue jeans with flowers embroidered on the pockets, a grey long sleeve shirt and light brown boots.

“We know that there was a little bit of an argument between her and her stepmom last night, but it isn’t anything unusual,” Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said at the time, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “There was that argument, then stepmom went to fix dinner, came back to get Athena, and Athena wasn’t in her room.”

Dec. 2, 2022: FedEx Driver Tanner Horner Arrested, Body is Discovered

Just two days after she disappeared, the Wise County Sheriff announced the arrest of Tanner Lynn Horner, a contract driver for FedEx who had made a delivery to the family’s home about the same time that Athena disappeared.

Akin said police identified Horner as the suspected killer through digital evidence and a confession, according to CBS News.

That same day, investigators discovered Athena’s body about 9 miles from her home.

“It hurts our hearts to know that that child died,” Akin said at a press conference streamed by WFAA. “So much so that she is on her way now to the medical examiner’s office and there’s a Texas Ranger in front of her and there’s a Texas Ranger behind her. This community does not like losing our children and we can see it because of all the people who came out and helped us throughout this ordeal.”

Dec. 3, 2022: Athena Strand’s Grandfather Forgives Horner in Emotional Message

The day after her body was discovered, Athena’s grandfather Mark Strand penned an emotional message on Facebook forgiving Horner and writing that “hate is a gateway for Evil.”

“This flesh, this man that I am, is angry and I want 5 minutes alone in a cell with the psycho that took our Athena away from us, but there’s a soft gentle voice in the back of my head telling me I need to forgive him,” he wrote. “This flesh man, wants that psycho to burn in hell for all eternity, yet that gentle voice continues to tell me, I need to forgive him.”

Feb. 16, 2023: Tanner Horner Indicted

Horner was indicted on charges of aggravated kidnapping and capital murder of a person under 10.

“Tanner Horner’s indictment is the beginning of a long road through the justice system,” her mother Maitlyn Gandy said in a statement to CBS DFW. “I appreciate everyone’s continued support and for keeping Athena’s name and memory alive. Please take a moment to hug your children and loved ones. No one is promised another day.”

April 7, 2026: Tanner Horner Pleads Guilty in Court to Killing Athena Strand, Sentencing Trial Begins

Just as Horner’s trial was slated to begin, the 34-year-old entered a surprising guilty plea inside a Fort Worth, Texas courtroom, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telgram.

Jurors were then tasked with deciding whether Horner should be sentenced to death or receive life in prison.

Although Horner originally told investigators he’d struck the girl with his truck and panicked, Stainton said in his opening remarks that it was just a part of his web of lies.

“She was very much alive and very much uninjured when he put her in the truck,” he said, according to the news outlet. “The first thing Tanner Horner says to Athena when he picks her up and puts her in his truck, he leans down and says, ‘Don’t scream or I’ll hurt you.’ He says that twice. … That’s the first thing out of his mouth. He made good on it.”

As proof, jurors were shown a chilling image of an uninjured Athena inside the truck, sitting on her knees by the driver’s seat.

April 13, 2026: Jurors Hear Letter Tanner Horner Wrote to Athena Strand’s Family

While behind bars, Horner penned a letter to Athena’s family, apologizing for taking away their “little angel.”

“I’ve done a terrible thing to your family and I’m sorry,” he wrote, according to WFAA. “I can’t tell you how many countless nights I’ve stayed awake unable to sleep. I pray for all of you.”

April 16, 2026: Jurors Hear Audio of Athena Strand’s Murder, Prosecution Rests

Prosecutors rested their case after playing audio of the murder captured on a camera inside the truck.

Jurors watched as video showed Horner picking up the child and placing her into the back of the truck.

“What are you doing?” Athena asked, per The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Are you a kidnapper?”

At one point, Horner was heard telling her “you’re really pretty,” before he stopped the truck and Athena was heard crying and asking to go home.

Then, as “Jingle Bell Rock” played on the radio, Athena started screaming. Horner threatened to hurt her more if she didn’t shut up.

The child suffered blunt force injuries and was strangled to death before her naked body was dumped in a river, according to the outlet.

April 22, 2026: Tanner Horner’s Mom Breaks Down in Court, Describes Difficult Childhood

Horner’s mother, referred to in court only as Mrs. Horner, took the stand to describe his difficult childhood, telling the jurors he was bullied and struggled to connect with others while growing up.

“He wanted to get along with people, but they just weren’t interested in having conversations with him,” she said, per NBC DFW. “It was hard to watch. Very sad. They didn’t like him at all.”

When asked about Athena’s murder, she broke down on the stand.

“I am so mad at him. I want to just tear his ass up,” she said through tears, according to CBS News. “She was just a baby.”

May 4, 2026: Defense Rests in Tanner Horner’s Sentencing Trial

The defense rested their case in court May 4 after calling Dr. Jolie Brams, a child development expert, to testify about the impact Horner’s autism diagnosis, neurological issues and unstable childhood living with a mother struggling with addiction could have had on his actions.

“So, when we look at this lack of predictability, it’s hard enough for a regular child,” Brams said, per Fox 4. “But it’s much harder when your brain cannot make sense of the world around you to begin with.”

She added that her testimony should not in “any way should be implied as an excuse for what happened.”

May 5, 2026: Tanner Horner Sentenced to Death

After weeks of testimony, jurors sentenced Horner to death on May 5 after just three hours of deliberation,  per People.

They made the decision after concluding that there was a high likelihood that Horner would commit violence and could be a threat to society, according to The Associated Press.

Horner had no visible reaction to the sentence.

After the jury’s decision, Athena’s uncle directly addressed her killer in a statement released on the family’s behalf.

“You did not just take a life, you destroyed a family,” he said, per 11 Alive. ”You took a girl who trusted the world and repaid that innocence with violence. You chose to cause pain that will last generations … I want you to know that you are nothing.”
