Kentucky Schools Targeted by Suspected Robocall Bomb Threats, Authorities Report

0

A series of bomb threats targeting schools across Kentucky is suspected to be the result of a coordinated robocalling effort, according to state authorities.

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) announced on Tuesday that they are diligently investigating numerous threats aimed at schools throughout the state. This investigation is being conducted in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies. Officials have indicated that initial evidence points to a potential robocall scheme being responsible for these threats.

“Early findings indicate a connection to a possible robocalling campaign,” the Kentucky State Police stated. “These illegal threats are highly disruptive and completely unacceptable. We are committed to a thorough investigation of each incident and will ensure those responsible are held accountable.”

Authorities have confirmed that none of the threats have been found credible as of now.

Police have not specified which schools were targeted.

The news has prompted concern among parents calling for police to share more information.

“Which schools are getting the threats parents have the right to know,” one person wrote on social media.

“Do we know what counties have received the threats?” another asked.

“Is there a list of schools with threats?” a third questioned.

Robocalls — automated phone calls that use prerecorded or artificial voice messages — are often a “preferred tool” for scammers, according to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The incidents follow a series of hoax calls on Friday that led to evacuations and closures at zoos across the country, including the Louisville Zoo, according to WLKY.

Similar fake threats were also reported Monday at high schools in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and across the Philadelphia suburbs, according to FOX 29.

Kentucky State Police did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Trump and Brazilian President Unite for Crucial Talks on Economy and Security: What to Expect

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is set to meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Thursday to discuss mutual interests in economic and security matters, as per a White House insider who spoke anonymously due to the meeting’s unconfirmed status.

The relationship between Lula, a prominent figure on the left, and Trump has experienced fluctuations ever since Trump’s return to the Oval Office last year.

President Trump has implemented hefty tariffs on Brazilian imports and questioned Brazilian officials over their legal actions against former President Jair Bolsonaro, who faces charges related to a coup attempt.

In July, the Trump administration increased tariffs on Brazilian goods to 40%, adding to an earlier 10% increase. Trump defended these measures, claiming that Brazil’s policies and the legal proceedings against Bolsonaro posed an economic threat.

Subsequently, Trump eased some of these tariffs on Brazil in a bid to help reduce living costs for American consumers.

Trump and Lula started mending fences at the United Nations’ General Assembly in September, which was followed by their first private meeting in Malaysia in October and subsequent phone conversations.

Bolsonaro was accused of masterminding a plot to stay in power despite his 2022 election loss to Lula — similar charges to what Trump faced after a mob of his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol in 2021 to stop Democrat Joe Biden from taking the White House.

Last month, Lula came to the defense of Pope Leo XIV during a tense exchange of attacks between the pontiff and Trump over the war in Iran.

The 80-year-old Lula is running for reelection in October.

The Brazilian paper O Globo first reported the planned trip by the Brazilian leader.

Bluey Mania Strikes Again: New Limited Edition $2 Coin Collection Released

0

Australia’s beloved cartoon canine, Bluey, makes a splash at the post office once more with the launch of brand-new $2 coins today.

The anticipation for this collection was so intense that Australia Post’s online store briefly went down this morning due to the overwhelming demand. Fortunately, the site is now back up and running.

Earlier today, Australia Post unveiled the first series of $2 Bluey “Dollarbucks” coins, created in collaboration with the Royal Australian Mint and BBC Studios.

This release follows the phenomenal success of the 2024 Bluey $1 coin series, which turned into one of Australia’s most coveted—and at times, controversial—collectibles.

The latest $2 coins feature the lovable characters Bluey, her sister Bingo, dad Bandit, and mum Chilli, all brought to life through a design collaboration with Brisbane’s Ludo Studio.

Fans will recognise scenes from fan-favourite episodes, including Camping and Granny Mobile.

Collectors can snag individual uncirculated coins for $20, or opt for the five-coin tube and folder set for $34.

For those feeling lucky, the sets offer a one-in-ten chance of containing a special “Sleepytime” coloured coin – a nod to the episode frequently voted by fans as the series’ best.

Australia Post Executive General Manager Josh Bannister confirmed that special Bluey and Bingo coloured $2 coins will also be entering circulation through till change at participating Post Offices.

“Bluey is loved by families across Australia and the world,” Bannister said.

“These first-ever $2 coins are a fun way for fans to connect with the characters they love.”

While wildly successful, the 2024 launch of the Bluey $1 coins was briefly marred by a bizarre crime that made international headlines.

In July 2024, two men stole 63,000 unreleased Bluey coins – weighing several tonnes – from a warehouse in Sydney’s west.

The men, aged 47 and 44, stole the pallet of coins before they could reach the public, later selling them online to unsuspecting collectors for ten times their face value.

The theft sparked a major Strike Force investigation, eventually leading to arrests and the recovery of some of the loot.

The rarity of the stolen coins only fuelled the frenzy, with some $1 coins still fetching massive premiums on the secondary market.

The new Bluey $2 Dollarbuck collection is available at participating Post Offices and online from today, May 6.

Man Fatally Shot by Officers After Kicking Down Doors and Aiming Gun on Southside, Reports JSO

0

Authorities reported that police were called to Rigel Road late Monday night, following alerts from residents about a man forcefully entering their homes while wielding a firearm.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A fatal incident unfolded as a man lost his life after allegedly aiming a gun at law enforcement officers who were responding to his aggressive behavior on Jacksonville’s Southside.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stated that officers arrived at the scene on Rigel Road in the Holiday Hill neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. They were investigating reports of a disturbance involving an armed individual causing property damage.

This story continues below.

The suspect had allegedly broken into four different homes in the area, brandishing a handgun and confronting several occupants, according to the investigators.

Upon their arrival, as officers were gathering information from the affected residents, the man reportedly advanced towards them and pointed his weapon in their direction.

Officers ordered the man to drop the gun, but investigators said he did not, and that’s when four officers opened fire, killing him. No officers were injured.

Investigators are withholding the man’s identity, but said he was a convicted felon in both Florida and Texas.

The State Attorney’s Office is now investigating the scene.

Jessica Sauls, who lives nearby, said she heard multiple gunshots and witnessed the aftermath unfold just outside her home.

“My house was surrounded by cops and all their guns pointing right at my neighbor’s house, and then the next thing I know I hear some yelling,” Sauls said.

She described the experience as deeply unsettling.

“I am shaking to my core,” she says. “I lived here about a year and a half, and nothing’s really happening. It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood until the last few months when a lot of crime started happening,” Sauls said.

Sauls said seeing the scene firsthand, including the heavy police presence and the aftermath, has left her feeling both fearful and frustrated about safety in the area.

Verdict Revealed for Man Involved in Plot with Lover to End Husband’s Life

Inset: Michael Harding (Clay County Sheriff). Left: Thomas O’Donnell (Cumberland County Sheriff). Right: Julie Harding (California Highway Patrol).

A man from California, who conspired with his police officer girlfriend to murder her husband in a plot that spanned across several states, is now facing a life sentence.

Thomas O’Donnell, aged 64, received a life imprisonment sentence on Monday for the murder of 53-year-old Michael Harding, a veteran of both the Army and Navy, in Cumberland County, Kentucky. A jury in Kentucky reached a guilty verdict for O’Donnell’s involvement in the murder last week.

During the time of the murder, O’Donnell was involved in an illicit relationship with Julie Vernnan Harding, a trooper with the California State Patrol. Prosecutors revealed that in the months leading up to the crime, Julie Harding withdrew over $220,000 from the bank accounts of her estranged husband.

The couple devised a plan where O’Donnell would disguise himself as an HVAC contractor to get close enough to Michael Harding to carry out the killing. The veteran, who was last seen on September 20, 2022, was subsequently discovered dead, having been shot multiple times.

However, their twisted plot did not lead to a happily ever after for the sinister pair.

As Law&Crime previously reported, Julie Harding was found dead months later from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in front of her one-time home, some 25 miles away in Tennessee, with a terse, cryptic, and rueful letter left by her corpse.

At the time of Michael Harding’s disappearance, Clay County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Rick Lisi said in an interview with AM radio station WUCT that no foul play was suspected.

A timestamped image of his black pickup truck placed him in the Bowling Green area of Kentucky on the day he vanished. Friends immediately reported his absence.

Six days later, however, Harding was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside a Cumberland County, Kentucky, residence.

The house was not his, and it was otherwise empty.

An apparent break in the case came on Dec. 8, 2022, when O’Donnell was arrested and charged with Harding’s murder. O’Donnell, who hails from Napa, was apprehended at the Sacramento International Airport just as he was about to board a flight to Tennessee.

That same day, Julie Harding, 49, was also arrested, but not in connection with her husband’s death. Police in Tennessee had charged her with stalking and burglary. In early October 2022, she was seen on a Ring camera from a home in Murfreesboro whispering to her deceased husband’s dog, Charlie, before putting a leash around his neck and walking away with him.

Local NBC affiliate KCRA later reported that Netflix accounts had been hacked into at the house where the dog was stolen, profile pictures were changed, and various other accounts on the device were deleted.

The dog had been staying with the woman who had been dating Michael Harding at the time of his death. According to KCRA, there had been a dispute about when and where she would surrender the dog.

Two days after her arrest, Julie Harding apparently died by suicide. Her body was found in the front yard, near the driveway, of the Celina, Tennessee, home she and her husband purchased two years prior. According to comments from Clay County Sheriff Brian Boone and reported by Sacramento-based CBS affiliate KPIX, a letter carrier and “another man” were the first to find her. She died from a single gunshot wound, the sheriff said.

Like O’Donnell, Julie Harding has a California connection: She was the Yuba-Sutter commander and captain of the California Highway Patrol, where she worked since 1999, at the time of her death. She assumed her leadership role in 2018. The agency has told various media outlets that she was on leave when she died.

At the time of his disappearance, Michael Harding was going to be a groomsman in his friend Preston Cleary’s upcoming wedding. On the day he went missing, he was on his way to pick up his tuxedo, but stopped to make a service call for the heating and air-conditioning business he owned. He never made it to the tuxedo shop.

“Mike was a good man,” Cleary told KCRA at the time. “He didn’t deserve what happened to him. He was [an] ‘integrity-through-the-roof’ guy. He couldn’t tell a lie. He would always do everyone right.”

He told the TV station that he was shocked to learn his friend was the victim of a crime like this, but that he also had a bad feeling as soon as he learned Michael Harding had gone missing.

“Deep down, I knew we weren’t going to find Mike alive,” Cleary said.

The deaths of the couple, less than four months apart, sent shockwaves across three states that have resulted in investigations by numerous local, county, and federal law enforcement agencies. O’Donnell was arrested with the FBI’s help.

Cleary always believed Julie Harding had hired a hit man to kill her husband.

“I believe it was months of planning,” Cleary recently told WBKO. “He was in fear for you know his life as well, because his doors was chained up, they were propped up. So like you were trying to keep someone out. And I think he knew what she was capable of.”

Cleary said the Hardings were experiencing a variety of marriage troubles and that Michael had asked Julie Harding for a divorce.

According to Cleary, Julie Harding had left behind a note that read: “Mike, I guess you win.”

This Year’s Met Gala Redefines Fashion as Underwear Becomes the New Outerwear Trend

0

A severe Met dressing-down

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has long been a focal point for high fashion and cultural celebration, yet recent gala events have sparked discussions about evolving dress codes and societal norms.

This year’s gathering saw many women adorned in daring styles that seemed to blur the lines between high fashion and casual comfort. Attendees opted for ensembles that eschewed traditional undergarments like bras and girdles, embracing a more liberated approach to style.

Gone were the days of restrictive attire; instead, the emphasis was on fluidity and ease. Outfits were designed to be effortlessly worn, moving away from the constraints of zippers and tight-fitting clothing, which seemed to be reserved for the older generation footing the bill.

The fashion choices highlighted a shift towards accessibility and freedom, with garments designed to allow ease of movement and a relaxed vibe. This trend speaks volumes about contemporary fashion’s move towards inclusivity and comfort, reflecting broader changes in societal attitudes towards personal expression and respect.

Wriggling out of anything tight? Naah. Because how each was dressed all the necessary parts were available.

Fie on drawers, girdles, slips, bras. Everyone’s entire plumbing ability guaranteed instant accessibility.

Shove jewelry. You just stuck a candle in someone’s navel.

Even my dog knows enough to wear a bellyband.

Underwear is now outerwear.

Next year, forget a handbag — just bring a tweezer.

When the angel Gabriel came to be blessed — even he wore more.

On the side lines

A FEW remarks one may have repeated and overheard at galas, years past and imagined:

Hunter Biden: “That was not my computer.”

Wrong Way Corrigan: “I told you, take a left.”

Sitting Bull: “What’s that? I booked a sofa.”

The Tonys statuette: “This is WHAT?!”

Elon Musk: “Please, a penny earned is a billion lost.”

Bill Clinton: “I don’t know what you’re accusing me of, but whatever it is I didn’t do it.”

Former Prince Andrew, Duke of York: “Epstein who?”

New Jersey’s ex-Sen. Menendez: “But the gold bricks were small.”

Driverless Tesla occupant: “Listen, just back up.”

Bill de Blasio: “So which way is uptown?”

MTA chairman: “No, $20 is not too much to pay for one stop to 59th Street.”

Tourist: “Where’d you say Saks Fifth once was?”

Diddy: “No, not Rambo — bimbo.”

Kim Kardashian: “Caesar was who?”

Napoleon: “So what, Tom Cruise is also short.”

Travis Kelce: “At least I can hum.”

Smoking-hot flicks up next

UNTIL Cuba reopens for cigars and beaches — or sons of beaches — here’s all we will have of it: NY’s Havana Film Festival comedies about love and sex, plus some more about more love and sex. It’s alien encounters, and local storytelling. Titles such as “Havana Coyotes” and “My Cuban Dream” are playing at DGA Theater in Midtown West and Quad Cinema near Union Square. Last night is tomorrow. So smoke a Cohiba until they throw you out — and — caramba! — mucho mazel tov to you all.

SO this Met Gala invitee — a nobody male who rides the subway because it’s the only way to get his suit pressed — was escorting a somebody female, and he said to this Size 0 model, whose ears were smaller than her boobs: “Either your dress is too short or you’re in it too far.”

Meghan Markle’s Met Gala No-Show Sparks Speculation of Strained US Ties

0

The recent skit by Saturday Night Live mocking Meghan Markle, along with her noticeable absence from the Met Gala, is being interpreted as evidence of her diminishing popularity in the United States.

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, the Duchess of Sussex seems to have developed a troubling pattern of falling out with Hollywood’s elite power players.

“Attending the Met Gala could have been a significant opportunity for her,” Fitzwilliams noted. “Where were the Sussexes? Reportedly having disagreements with figures like Lauren Sanchez Bezos, the Kardashians, and the legendary Dame Anna Wintour is no small matter.”

Longtime royal biographer Phil Dampier added, “It seems that the American public’s affection for Harry and Meghan has waned.”

Reports suggest that Meghan is experiencing difficulties as her ventures in television and business aren’t meeting expectations. An insider from Los Angeles recently commented on the Sussexes’ state, saying, “It appears neither of them is content.”

But it got worse over the weekend when Saturday Night Live made a series of brutal jokes at her expense.

Meghan was called a ‘terrorist’ in a news bulletin-style skit that suggested she had kidnapped Harry and his father King Charles’s US state visit was a front to ‘seek his release’.

And last night self-proclaimed fashionista Meghan was missing from the most dazzling evening in the fashion calendar – the Met Gala in New York.

Since 1995, the Met Gala has been organised and presided over by Dame Anna Wintour, who met the King and Queen last week and apparently ‘turned against’ Meghan shortly after she married Harry.

This year Lauren Sanchez Bezos and her Amazon billionaire husband Jeff were lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs of the gala this year.

‘She [Meghan] snubbed Lauren before the [Bezos] wedding. Meghan was invited to things by Lauren and didn’t want to go. She didn’t want to be seen with her because she thought she was trashy’, a source told the Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff on Friday.

Meghan was keeping Harry hostage and King Charles was in the US to free him, a brutal Saturday Night Live skit joked

‘The normally liberal SNL finds Meghan funny’, Richard Fitzwilliams said today.

‘One of Meghan’s most infuriating characteristics is the way she takes herself so seriously. She seems immersed in positivity. It’s relentless but cannot overlook the fact that, apart from her mother she has fallen out with both sides of her family.

‘She also has a disastrous habit of falling out with Hollywood’s top power brokers. Reports have indicated that Netflix’s executives don’t trust her and can’t stand her either’.

Meghan popped up in haute couture at Paris Fashion Week last year and has invested in a fashion website – but was not in New York yesterday.

‘Where were they when King Charles, Harry’s father, was on a state visit to the United States which has become famous? This would have mattered’, Mr Fitzwilliams said.

‘They might have been “half in, half out” on their “faux royal” visit to Oz, but when it comes to real influence neither have pull and SNL is right, she may have her hostage, but perhaps the best way of responding to her behaviour is to laugh at it,’ he added.

Royal author and commentator Phil Dampier said: ‘The fact they are becoming the subject of ridicule on what are normally woke or liberal platforms, be it TV or newspapers or online tends to indicate they are running out of options.

‘When many are struggling with the cost of living, their moaning and whinging doesn’t go down well.

‘At the moment Harry and Meghan are half in and half out, which is what the late Queen wanted to avoid, but I don’t think the public are buying it.

‘They are desperate to portray themselves as still working royals when they are not.

‘On their recent tour of Australia they cashed in commercially but carried out other engagements which were similar to the royals.

‘But it’s not authentic and people can see through that’.

Meghan flew alone across the United States to support her godson on the day of his First Communion on Saturday in the hours before the SNL skit.

The Duchess of Sussex was seen smiling as a group of children processed down the aisle of the Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago on Saturday.

Natalie Martinez, a Chicago TV reporter whose daughter was also having her First Communion at the same Catholic mass, took a picture of her daughter walking past Meghan.

But it was only online for a short period before it was deleted by Ms Martinez.

The picture deletion was immediately compared to the row sparked when pictures of Meghan and Harry at Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday were mysteriously removed from social media.

The Sussexes were absent from all events during King Charles’s state visit to the US last week.

Yet they still found a way to insert themselves into the media discourse, the Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff said.

A cover story in People magazine said their trip to Australia is being hailed as the blueprint for the couple’s new working model.

Speaking to sources in California, the story told of the couple’s life is one of wall-to-wall fallouts and alienation.

Meghan and Harry no longer have any bridges left to burn, the Daily Mail’s source said.

The insider said: ‘They have truly lost the plot. I hear she’s spiralling badly because she knows nothing is working. The whole thing about her [As Ever] stuff selling out isn’t true any more. I don’t think either of them are happy.’

The source said they believe the couple’s problems are worse than many suspect because of Meghan and Harry’s unfortunate habit of falling out with the very people who could help them make a go of things financially.

One of the prime figures in this list is Anna Wintour, who attended a charity gala with Charles and Camilla in New York on Wednesday.

Ms Wintour was at the Met Gala last night.

The source says Dame Anna turned against Meghan in 2019 when she collaborated with then British Vogue editor Edward Enninful on a ‘Forces for Change’ issue of the magazine.

There existed a long-time rivalry between Dame Anna at US Vogue, and Enninful at British Vogue, and Meghan picked her side – unwisely, as it turns out.

Enninful is no longer the editor of British Vogue. Wintour has stepped aside from day-to-day editing US Vogue but remains Global Editorial Director and Chief Content Officer at Conde Nast, and seems more powerful than ever.

‘Meghan pledged her allegiance to Enninful which p***ed off Anna,’ says the source, adding: ‘Anna hates her. Meghan doesn’t want to pay, and never returns things.

‘Also, Anna loves the Royal Family. She is a Dame. Anna would have hated how they [the Sussexes] handled their exit from The Firm.’

A source suggests Meghan has failed to make a potentially useful friend in Lauren Sanchez Bezos.

Other powerful figures offended by Meghan are the Kardashians, who are also close to Lauren.

The family’s matriarch Kris Jenner had her 70th birthday party at the Bezos house in LA in November last year.

The party happened to fall on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, and was attended by Meghan and Harry, as the Royal Family gathered at the Albert Hall for the annual Festival of Remembrance.

Surprise was expressed by some that the Sussexes would party on such a solemn landmark.

A row then blew up over pictures of them posted on social media by Jenner but later removed, apparently after a request by the Sussexes.

The Sussexes denied they had asked for them to come down; Jenner’s daughter Kim Kardashian said the opposite was true.

As a result, says a source, the Kardashians have also had enough of Harry and Meghan: ‘The Kardashians are over them.’

Kris Jenner, one of the most influential figures in the world on social media, hasn’t liked a single post on Meghan’s Instagram pages since last year.

Chicago Mayor’s Bold Move to Retain Bears at Soldier Field Amid Relocation Talks

0

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is set to travel to Springfield for a series of discussions with state legislators starting Tuesday night. His agenda includes advocating for fresh revenue initiatives and making a case for the Chicago Bears to continue playing at Soldier Field.

This visit coincides with the lawmakers’ final stretch of their legislative session, a period that will see them revisiting a proposal aimed at facilitating the Bears’ ambition to construct a new stadium in Arlington Heights.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

On Tuesday, Johnson presented a list of potential revenue streams that may face significant challenges in Springfield. However, persuading the Bears to stay in the city seems to be an even more daunting task.

Despite the odds, Johnson remains determined to retain the Bears at Soldier Field.

“The lakefront isn’t just the best location for the Bears to play,” Johnson stated. “It’s also the most economically viable and stable option for the team to remain in Chicago.”

As it stands, the Bears have long said the two locations they are considering for a new stadium are in Arlington Heights and Hammond, Indiana.

Before heading to Springfield, the mayor raised concerns about the bill now before the Illinois Senate that would allow developers of large projects, including the Bears, to make payments to local taxing bodies in exchange for long-term freezes on property taxes.

An analysis done of the bill passed by the Illinois House said while it would help the Bears put a new stadium on the old Arlington Racetrack property, the included property tax relief for homeowners would be negligible. The mayor is troubled by that.

“Without, you know, a clear pathway to provide certainty, as well as equity for everyday working people, I believe that is a mismatch there,” Johnson said.

Johnson’s Springfield mission will also focus on convincing lawmakers not to cut the portion of the state income tax that goes to local municipalities, known as the local government distributive fund.

Right now, Chicago stands to lose more than $12 million under the governor’s budget plan.

“Raising the percentage share by just 1% would result in an $80 million increase in funding for the city of Chicago,” Johnson said.

Progressive lawmakers are joining the mayor in advocating for additional new revenue sources, including a digital ad tax.

“I don’t think anybody has any love lost for the Elon Musks of the world or Mark Zuckerbergs of the world, and what they’ve been doing to our communities,” said digital ad tax sponsor and Illinois state Sen. Robert Peters, D-Chicago. “So, this is, I think, a unique opportunity for us to both tackle budget issues to tackle bigger structural issues.”

Peters, whose district includes Soldier Field, is also pushing for state help to renovate the venue for concerts.

“So, my main duty is to make sure that Soldier Field remains a unique and special venue, and that is with or without the Bears,” Peters said.

The mayor will host a dinner meeting for the legislative black caucus on Tuesday night and then a breakfast meeting for another group of lawmakers on Wednesday morning to kick off a busy day-and-a-half of lobbying for Chicago.

Illinois lawmakers’ spring session ends on May 31.

The Bears have said they plan to share an update on their new stadium plans by late spring or early summer.

ABC7 Chicago’s Craig Wall will travel to Springfield on Tuesday night to cover the mayor’s trip.

Ohio Siblings Sentenced in $21M Fraud: The Untold Story of Their Royal Ruse

0

Two siblings from Ohio, who falsely claimed to be royalty from the Middle East, faced sentencing on Tuesday for orchestrating a series of fraudulent activities amounting to approximately $21 million. These scams were allegedly executed with assistance from a former aide to the mayor of East Cleveland.

Zubair and Muzzammil Al Zubair, aged around 42 and 31, received prison sentences of 24 and 23 years, respectively, as reported by Cleveland media.

U.S. District Judge Donald Nugent commented on the case, stating, “You stole a significant amount of money, deceived individuals, and tarnished East Cleveland’s reputation. Your ostentatious behavior included driving a Rolls Royce and flying on private jets.”

Michael Smedley, the 56-year-old chief of staff who accepted bribes to facilitate the brothers’ fraudulent operations from 2020 to 2023, was sentenced to more than eight years in prison, according to the report.

Authorities said the brothers built a façade of extreme wealth and elite connections, with Zubair falsely claiming to be married to a United Arab Emirates princess, and Muzzammil claiming to be a hedge fund manager based solely on watching YouTube videos.

Their lavish lifestyle ultimately included private jets, luxury watches, a fleet of high-end vehicles, dozens of firearms and even a custom-made, gold-plated AK-47-style rifle.

They also chartered private jets for domestic and international shopping trips to destinations such as Aspen, Miami, London, Bucharest and Madrid, according to federal officials.

Prosecutors said that over the years, the brothers carried out multiple schemes to steal money and property from victims, including Zubair’s former girlfriend, from the UAE, who lost $737,000, the outlet Cleveland reported.

Another major scheme involved the brothers allegedly bilking a Chinese investor out of nearly $18 million by falsely claiming they owned an industrial complex and would bring a cryptocurrency business to the site, the outlet said.

To facilitate their crimes, prosecutors said the pair corrupted Smedley with expensive gifts and meals, cash payments, Cleveland Browns suite tickets, prized Japanese wagyu beef, cigars, upscale dining and promises of future employment.

In exchange, prosecutors said Smedley abused his city position to assist the brothers. He was accused of attempting to secure state funding for their businesses, providing official city letterhead, issuing them police credentials, and formally appointing Zubair as an “International Economic Advisor” for East Cleveland.

Following a two-week trial, all three men were convicted by a federal jury of conspiracy to commit bribery involving programs receiving federal funds, conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and Hobbs Act conspiracy.

The brothers were additionally convicted of multiple counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and theft of government funds.

Zubair was additionally convicted of willful failure to file tax returns.

Richie Akiva and Kate Moss Host Spectacular Last-Minute Met Gala After Party Following Unexpected Planning Hiccup

He pulled it off with flair!

Renowned nightlife impresario Richie Akiva, famed for orchestrating one of the Met Gala’s most sought-after after-parties, encountered a last-minute hiccup when his initial co-hosts, Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter, opted to organize their own event.

Adding to the challenge, Akiva’s usual venue, Casa Cipriani, was no longer an option, leaving him scrambling for a new location.

Despite these setbacks, he spectacularly succeeded in assembling the most talked-about party of the evening, featuring a true fashion icon, and did so in a mere 24 hours.

By Saturday, just two days before the fashion world’s grandest event, the outlook was uncertain. However, in a remarkable turn of events, Akiva secured the legendary Kate Moss as the night’s host and shifted the celebration, aptly named “The Afters,” to the vibrant downtown burlesque venue, The Box.

Insiders say the entire soirée came together in just a day, with one source telling us Moss and Akiva are friends who had been casually chatting when the idea came up.

Moss, 52, didn’t just lend her name, she also brought daughter Lila, 23, along for the night, which didn’t really heat up until around 4 a.m.

“Next year I am definitely going to prepare in a much longer time and lock everything in officially way earlier,” Akiva told us. “And I am going to do something invitation only.”

Adding, “I was super grateful and happy. I love Kate.”

Elie Tahari stepped in as sponsor.

This is Akiva’s 12th Met Gala after party.

Teyana Taylor was also a host of the bash. She had been on board since the initial planning stages.

Despite being announced late, the party still drew a stacked crowd, including Blackpink’s Lisa and Jennie and editor Edward Enninful.

Diplo hit the decks for a packed room that included Ty Dolla $ign, Evan Ross, Selah Marley, and Stefon Diggs. At one point, we’re told barely clad burlesque dancers had to be moved aside so guests could actually see the famed DJ.

One insider tells us Diplo was “flirting” with the dancers, while another insists, “the burlesque girls were flirting with him.”

DJ Kaytranada also spun, while Busta Rhymes grabbed the mic for an impromptu performance. Singer Leon Thomas performed as well.

“The party went amazing,” Akiva said.

As Page Six previously reported, Akiva had been in talks with Madonna and Carpenter to host. Both have attended his parties before, but this year, Madonna decided she “wanted to do something smaller,” Akiva told us.

Madonna’s rep told us, “She was never confirmed for any party.” Carpenter’s camp didn’t get back to us.

Carpenter and Madonna, who just released the duet “Bring Your Love” from Madge’s upcoming “Confessions II” album, wound up hosting their own party at Zero Bond, which is owned by Akiva’s former Butter Group business partner Scott Sartiano.

In 2018, four years after he had sold his shares in the Butter Group, Sartiano sued Akiva for $15 million, alleging Akiva had lied to him — claiming 1OAK and Up & Down were money pits and convincing Sartiano to let Akiva buy him out with a series of low-ball payments. The suit was dismissed last January, Page Six reported.

The pair had a falling out and have not spoken in years we’re told.
