Gospel singer Betty Bayo passed away on November 10, 2025 at the age of 41. She was receiving treatment for blood cancer at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). Her ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, told the Nation that the gospel musician had been battling leukaemia and was receiving treatment at the high dependency unit (HDU) at KNH.

The family confirmed the news during a press briefing held at KNH, where they detailed her final moments and the illness she had been battling.

“Together with the spouse (Hiram Gitau), the father of Betty’s children (Pastor Kanyari) and friends of Betty, we want to tell the members of the public that today [November 10, 2025], we have lost Betty Bayo,” a family spokesperson said during a media briefing at KNH.

The family spokesperson explained that the singer was first admitted to AAR Kiambu Road before being transferred to KNH on Friday, November 7, as her condition worsened. According to the family, Betty had been diagnosed with acute mild leukaemia, which resulted in excessive bleeding.

“Betty has been unwell since last week; she was diagnosed with acute mild cancer—leukemia. Betty was transferred to KNH on Friday as she was suffering from excessive bleeding. The doctors tried their best, but the will of God has prevailed,” the family said.

The family said plans were underway to move her body from Kenyatta National Hospital to the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary.

“We are planning to move her body from Kenyatta National Hospital to the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary, and all the other announcements on the plans to follow will come later,” they said.

She died from complications arising from blood cancer (leukemia).

In Florida, a high-profile trial has begun as jury selection unfolds for a man accused of murdering his adoptive parents.

Dima Tower, aged 24, is charged with two counts of murder following the tragic 2023 deaths of Jennifer and Robbie Tower. In addition to these charges, he faces accusations of evading law enforcement.

Proceedings are taking place in Sarasota, where Tower’s defense team recently proposed a plea deal on Monday. The offer included a guilty plea to manslaughter with a recommended sentence of 40 years, according to ABC 7.

However, the prosecution dismissed this offer, insisting on the manslaughter plea but seeking a life sentence instead.

According to CrimeOnline, Tower was apprehended in September 2023 after the couple was discovered fatally stabbed in their residence on Mallicoat Road, located in North Port.

The parents had adopted Dima from a Ukrainian orphanage when he was 14 years old.

Records from the North Port Police Department and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office obtained by FOX 4 show multiple domestic violence calls involving Dima since 2018.

On December 8, 2018, officers responded to the family’s home because Dima had allegedly pushed Jennifer when she entered his bedroom, which he denied.

Dima, a teen at the time, had reportedly not spoken with his parents for several days.

Robbie wanted Dima involuntarily detained for mental health evaluation, but officers did not believe the situation met the criteria for that process.

No arrests were made.

Months later, around 7:30 p.m. on April 28, 2019, Jennifer called police to report Dima missing after he rode his bike away from home upset that he was grounded. Police found Dima and brought him back.

Jennifer called police just hours later, around 11 p.m., to report that Dima had again left the house. Police found him and brought him home.

Officers on July 29, 2019, took Dima into custody after being spotted walking near an elementary school carrying a BB gun. Dima told police he planned to shoot soldier toys, which were in his pockets. Police later released him.

Robbie called police on October 22, 2019, asking that Dima be removed for behavioral problems. The father reported that his son had been physically and verbally abusive.

Robbie also told police he slept with his bedroom door locked at night, afraid of what Dima might do.

A deputy attempted to speak with Dima, but he did not respond. The records do not show any indication of an eviction or attempt to seek an emergency protection order.

One year later, on October 22, 2020, sheriff’s deputies arrested Dima for domestic violence. An unnamed victim alleged that Dima had pushed him in the kitchen, resulting in multiple injuries to the victim’s head.

The victim alleged that Dima punched him repeatedly, smacked a phone out of his hands when he tried to call 911 and then continued the assault with several blows to his head and face.

Dima allegedly admitted to the assault and told a deputy that the victim was “mentally abusing his mother,” according to FOX4. Dima later pleaded not guilty to charges, which were eventually dropped.

On August 31, 2023, police found Robbie and Jennifer stabbed to death in their home, both face down on the floor, after responding to a call from a neighbor who reported hearing noises.

Dima fled in a vehicle when police arrived, according to WINK News. Deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office used stop sticks to get the car to stop. They apprehended him after he fled on foot into a wooded area.

Robbie’s Uncle, Warren Rines, previously told the New York Post that the Towers were kind-hearted people.

“These were two really good, caring people,” Rines told the Post. “It just makes no sense, none of us understand the hate. They were the only two people in his life who ever tried to help him. They treated him like their own son.”

A suicide bomber killed 12 people in Pakistan’s capital on Tuesday in a sharp escalation of militant violence that the defence minister said had pushed the country into a “state of war”.
Pakistani government ministers accused neighbouring Afghanistan of complicity in the bloodshed — an accusation they denied — and vowed retaliation if Afghan authorities failed to rein in the militants Islamabad says were responsible.
“We are in a state of war,” said defence minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif after the attack, the first strike on civilians in Islamabad in a decade.
“Bringing this war to Islamabad is a message from Kabul, to which Pakistan has the full power to respond.”

Pakistan finds itself in a tense standoff with both Afghanistan and India. In May, a brief four-day conflict erupted with India, and more recently, Pakistan executed airstrikes in Afghanistan, including in Kabul. These actions were justified by Pakistani authorities as a response to the alleged presence of Pakistani militants in Afghanistan.

Unsuccessful peace talks followed subsequent skirmishes on the Pakistan-Afghan border.
No group claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack, in which a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a busy lower court in Islamabad.

In recent years, Pakistani Taliban militants have increasingly targeted the nation’s security forces, escalating tensions within the region.

In a tragic development, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device, resulting in the death of 12 individuals and injuring many others. This incident marks a significant breach of security, as Islamabad had not witnessed civilian casualties of this nature for a decade, according to data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, which monitors such attacks.

In response to these events, India’s foreign ministry issued a strong statement, dismissing Pakistan’s allegations. “India unequivocally rejects the baseless and unfounded allegations being made by an obviously delirious Pakistani leadership,” the ministry declared.

Islamabad says that the Pakistani Taliban and other militants are based in Afghanistan, with the support of India.
“We are totally clear that Afghanistan has to stop them. In case of a failure, we have no option but to take care of those terrorists who are attacking our country,” interior minister Mohsin Naqvi said, speaking at the scene of the court bombing.
Naqvi said that the school assailants were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan during the attack.
He said the authorities are investigating the backers of the court bombing, adding that an attack in Islamabad “carried a lot of messages”.

“India unequivocally rejects the baseless and unfounded allegations being made by an obviously delirious Pakistani leadership,” said India’s foreign ministry.

The Taliban administration in Kabul said in a statement that it “expresses its deep sorrow and condemnation” of the attacks.
A spokesman did not respond to a request for comment on Pakistan’s accusations.
Afghanistan denies that its territory is used for attacks on other countries.
The attacks in Pakistan came a day after an explosion in the Indian capital, which killed eight people.

Senate Republicans are voicing strong opposition to a Democratic proposal aimed at extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies for a year, as part of a broader strategy to end the current government shutdown. The GOP contends that there is little enthusiasm for such a deal within their ranks.

The proposal, put forth by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, includes a short-term funding measure, a three-bill “minibus,” and a continuation of tax credits. However, several Senate Republicans were quick to dismiss it as lacking seriousness, mere hours after Schumer presented it on the Senate floor.

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina expressed his dissatisfaction as he made his way to a GOP conference meeting, describing the proposal as “terrible.” He criticized the financial windfall experienced by major health care companies, noting, “The five largest health care companies in America have seen their stock prices skyrocket by 1,000 percent since 2010. We are inundating these entities with funds, which is fueling inflation.” Graham firmly stated, “The program is flawed, and I refuse to continue allocating hundreds of billions of dollars to insurance companies.”

Throughout the government shutdown, Republicans have maintained that they would only engage in health care negotiations once the government is back in operation. On the other hand, Democrats have prioritized the extension of ACA subsidies in their demands.

Schumer announced the proposal the day after bipartisan talks that had been ongoing this week fell apart.

A group of moderate Democrats were nearing a deal with Republicans that included a stopgap spending bill, an attached minibus and a commitment to hold a vote on a bill to extend ACA subsidies by a certain date. 

Negotiators, however, began singing a different tune early Thursday afternoon, as they indicated a deal was not close. That was followed by a Democratic caucus meeting that led the party to seek more concessions from Republicans. 

Led by the one-year ACA tax credits extension, the new offer was rejected swiftly by the GOP.

“Everybody who follows this knows that’s a nonstarter,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said. “There is no way. The ObamaCare extension is the negotiation. That’s what we’re going to negotiate once the government opens up.”

“A one-year extension along the lines of what they’re suggesting … it just doesn’t even get close,” Thune said, adding the Democratic offer also does not include protections for the Hyde Amendment, which bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortions. 

Thune said the proposal is evidence Democrats are “feeling the heat.”

House Republicans were also quick to slam the offer.

Rep. August Pfluger, (R-Texas), chair of the Republican Study Committee, called it a “nonstarter” while the hardline conservative House Freedom Caucus said it was “absurd.”

House Democrats, meanwhile, appeared to back the offer.

One top aide said Democratic offices have been discussing the offer this afternoon, “and most seem to think it’d be an acceptable off-ramp.” 

“It would meet the promise to constituents and put us in good position going forward,” the aide said. 

The proposal also came days after Democrats saw massive wins at the ballot box, opening up a fissure for Republicans and encouraging the minority party to dig in.

President Trump declared Wednesday that the shutdown had hurt the GOP in the elections, buoying progressives to keep up the fight for a subsidy extension, with Republicans seemingly on the back foot. 

Progressives also were not in favor of the deal at the center of bipartisan talks, having insisted they want an outcome on the tax credits rather than a process that would include a likely failed vote.

Novo Nordisk executive Gordon Findlay reportedly collapsed in the Oval Office during an event where President Trump made a statement on lowering the price of weight-loss drugs, including Ozempic.

Gordon, are you okay?” Dr. Mehmet Oz jumped in as the drug executive fell to his knees and collapsed. The press were then ushered out and asked to leave. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary, was also in the room when the incident happened.

About 30 minutes later, when the press conference resumed, Trump gave an update on the executive’s health.

“One of the representatives of the companies, of one of these companies, got a little bit lightheaded,” he told the press. “We saw he went down, and he’s fine. They just sent him out, and he’s got doctors here. But he’s fine.”

The man was identified as Gordon Findlay, the global brand director for Novo Nordisk, though the pharmaceutical company later shared a statement with multiple outlets suggesting that Findlay was not present at the event.

Veteran journalist Christiane Amanpour asked the heir to the throne about his recent comments that he would pursue ‘change for good’ when he is king.

‘I am truly sorry for wearing a Dodgers hat’, he said, before joking that the cap had also helped hide how much his hair is thinning. 

There were more guffaws in the crowd of 500 when he made a gag about the lights on bouncing off his bald spot. 

Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, meanwhile, has this week revealed she is returning to acting.

Air travel across the United States is poised for disruption as airlines prepare to trim hundreds of flights at some of the nation’s busiest airports, including major hubs in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago. This move, set to begin on Friday, comes as a direct consequence of the ongoing government shutdown.

The flight reductions will extend across more than two dozen states, suggesting that the effects will be felt far beyond the immediate locations impacted. The breadth of these cuts highlights the extensive reach of the current situation.

On Thursday, airlines were in a scramble to identify which routes to pare down, leaving passengers with weekend and future travel plans anxiously awaiting updates on their itineraries. Many are turning to airline apps for the latest information regarding the status of their flights.

Delta Air Lines announced it would cancel approximately 170 flights on Friday, while American Airlines intends to cut 220 flights each day through Monday. These planned cancellations underscore the widespread challenges both airlines and travelers are facing as the shutdown persists.

Airlines also planned cancellations into the weekend, directing passengers to check apps to learn their flight status.Delta Air Lines said it would scratch roughly 170 flights on Friday, and American Airlines planned to cut 220 a day through Monday. 

The FAA said the reductions would start at 4% and ramp up to 10% by Nov. 14. They would be in effect between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. and would impact all commercial airlines.

Why are flights being canceled?

The FAA is imposing the flight reductions to relieve pressure on air traffic controllers who are working without pay during the government shutdown. The agency has already been delaying flights at times when airports or other FAA facilities are short on controllers.

The aviation safety agency said the cuts will keep airspace safe during the government shutdown, which is now the longest on record.

Air traffic controllers have been working unpaid since the shutdown began Oct. 1. Most work mandatory overtime six days a week, leaving little time for side jobs to help cover bills and other expenses unless they call out.

Mounting staffing pressures are forcing the agency to act, FAA administrator Bryan Bedford said Wednesday at a news conference.

“I’m not aware in my 35-year history in the aviation market where we’ve had a situation where we’re taking these kinds of measures,” Bedford said Wednesday. “We’re in new territory in terms of government shutdowns.”

“We can’t ignore it,” he said, adding that even if the shutdown ends before Friday, the FAA wouldn’t automatically resume normal operations until staffing improves and stabilizes.

FAA flight reductions began to take effect Friday, with more than 800 flights canceled nationwide as of 6 a.m. ET, according to FlightAware. 

The live flight tracker does not provide reasons for delays or cancellations, so some of the affected flights may not be due to FAA flight reductions.

Ex-Neighbours Actor Faces Court Judgment Over Controversial Nazi Gesture

A former actor from the television soap Neighbours has been convicted for making a gesture akin to a Nazi salute.

Damien Richardson, aged 56, faced charges for executing this gesture at a restaurant located in Melbourne’s south-east in September 2024, during a speech he was delivering.

During a two-day hearing at the Moorabbin Magistrates Court this week, a video capturing the gesture was presented as evidence.

Richardson’s legal representative, Peter Monagle, contended that the gesture was intended for legitimate “artistic or theatrical purposes” and argued that the restaurant’s closure meant it was not a public venue.

Despite these claims, the court ruled on Friday that Richardson was guilty of performing a gesture resembling a Nazi salute in a public setting.

Magistrate Justin Foster found the gesture was not performed for artistic, theatrical or academic reasons, and even if the venue was closed for a function it was still a licensed premises, which was a public place.

“The gesture made by the accused does resemble a Nazi salute, and it is likely to be confused with or mistaken for that gesture,” Foster told the court.

“So for those reasons I do find that a Nazi gesture, under the definition given to it, has been performed.”

However, Foster also found Richardson showed no “loyalty, affiliation or obedience” to Hitler or Nazis in performing the gesture, as described by an expert who gave evidence on Thursday.

As well as the gesture resembling a Nazi salute and being performed in a public place, the expert said it must demonstrate “loyalty or unconditional obedience to Hitler”.

“I do not find that it demonstrates loyalty or unconditional obedience to Hitler,” the magistrate said, taking into account all of the context about the gesture being made.

Prior to the salute, Richardson complained about his treatment in some Age articles, which he claimed labelled him as Nazi-like “to shut down what some might describe as extreme right-wing views”, the magistrate said.

“The salute that came immediately afterwards was in a mocking gesture, perhaps aimed at The Age, perhaps aimed at himself,” Foster said, adding he had not seen or investigated the articles himself.

“Together with the following the words … that he clearly wasn’t Adolf Hitler, and that he’s not a Nazi.

“And in fact, he went on a few moments later to describe how his own grandfather had fought in the war against Nazis and against the Nazi ideology, and he was very proud of his grandfather for doing that.”

Foster found Richardson also spent time during the 10-minute speech “shutting down what might be described as elements of anti-Semitism in the room”.

“And so I do not find beyond reasonable doubt, even on the balance of probabilities, that he was showing loyalty, affiliation or obedience, he was doing it to either mock himself or mock The Age newspaper,” he said.

Richardson will return to court on December 4 for a pre-sentence hearing.

A young boy discovered wandering alone in Milwaukee has a connection to a woman who was found shot to death in an alley on that same day.

Anya Raymond, 31, was discovered deceased around 9 a.m. on November 5, approximately five hours after the child was found about three miles away in northern Milwaukee, as reported by WISN. The boy was barefoot, lacking both shoes and socks.

Authorities described the child as being between 5 and 6 years old and noted that he appeared to be non-verbal. They later confirmed that his family had been located, and he was reunited with them shortly after 4 p.m.

While investigators have not disclosed the exact relationship between the boy and the deceased woman, social media posts suggest he might have been her son.

Rosetta Lampkin-Johnson, who discovered the body in the alley, recounted to WISN that she immediately ran to notify the police. She mentioned that she did not recognize the woman and had not heard any gunshots prior to finding the body.

“She must have been killed somewhere else and brought here,” she said. “You don’t want to see that or see anything happen to someone like that, and my heart goes out to the family.”
