The search intensifies for a woman linked to the tragic death of a veteran police officer in Massachusetts. As the pursuit continues, authorities have unveiled new video footage of Karen Solomon, emphasizing that the 58-year-old suspect remains at large and potentially armed.

In a bid to solicit public assistance, the Worcester Police Department released enhanced visuals of Solomon. Their relentless search has now entered its second day, and officials are urging community members to stay alert during this crucial time.

While Worcester police have yet to officially announce the identity of the deceased officer, the New England Police Benevolent Association stepped forward, revealing him to be Officer Kurt Solomon. With a remarkable 31-year tenure in the Worcester Police Department and membership in the association, he was a dedicated servant to the city and its people.

Colleagues remember Solomon not just for his professional dedication, but also as an “incredibly dependable officer, colleague, and friend,” highlighting the enormous loss felt by the community and the law enforcement family.

“Thirty-one years of service represents an extraordinary commitment to a community and to the profession of law enforcement,” the association said. “Officer Kurt Solomon answered that call for more than three decades, and his service, friendship and dedication will not be forgotten.”

The group said it was mourning alongside Solomon’s family and fellow officers as the investigation continues, adding that it had “full confidence” in authorities working to determine what happened and locate the person being sought.

Public records reviewed by The Associated Press show Kurt and Karen Solomon co-owned the Wildwood Avenue home and that Kurt identified Karen as his wife in a 2016 bankruptcy filing. A Worcester city councilor also publicly referred to Karen as Kurt’s wife Wednesday.

“She is still believed to be armed,” a Worcester Police Department spokesperson told News Media Wednesday morning, adding that the case remains a “very active investigation.” The department declined to discuss further details, including the relationship between Karen Solomon and the deceased, but said another update could come later Wednesday.

Police said officers responded to Wildwood Avenue at approximately 5:28 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a person down and found an off-duty Worcester police officer dead inside. His cause and manner of death have not been released.

Authorities described Solomon during a Tuesday news conference as a suspect they want to question about what happened inside the home.

The district attorney said Solomon had been at the house and that other people were also there, but declined to discuss further details, citing rules surrounding domestic violence cases.

Solomon is described as a White woman with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Police initially said she was last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top and walking toward Westcott Street.

Authorities warned Tuesday that she was presumed “armed and dangerous.” In Wednesday’s update, Worcester police said they continued to believe she was armed and asked the public to remain vigilant.

Police urged anyone who sees Solomon or has information about her whereabouts to contact the department. A police spokesperson told News Media that anyone who sees or comes into contact with Solomon should call Worcester police at 508-799-8606 or 911.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham believes that a shift in leadership could positively impact the WNBA’s future.

In a recent conversation with USA Today, Cunningham, who has previously been at the center of discussions about transgender athletes in women’s sports, opened up about her views on commissioner Cathy Engelbert’s tenure. She suggested that Engelbert’s role might be up for grabs by the end of this year’s league activities.

“It’s crucial to have a leader who is courageous, confident, and prioritizes the players’ interests over personal gain,” Cunningham stated. “While I think this role could be available at year’s end, it’s ultimately not my decision to make.”

Engelbert, now in her seventh year steering the WNBA, is currently contracted to serve as commissioner until the conclusion of the 2026 season.

Acknowledging the inherent difficulties of any leadership role, Cunningham highlighted the significance of supportive leadership in fostering players’ development.

“(Cathy Engelbert’s) done a lot of good things, but with where our league is trying to go, I feel like you just want someone who also wants that,” Cunningham said. “That’s just a hard position to be in, in her shoes, us as players ― we always want more, more, more because we see how good it can be, but … that’s up to [NBA commissioner] Adam Silver at the end of the day.”

During a mid-July press conference at NBA Summer League, Silver was noncommittal on Engelbert’s future with the league.

“I think Cathy continues to do a strong job building that league,” Silver said, noting that he didn’t want to speak for Engelbert. “We’ll have ongoing discussions about what the future looks like.”

Silver added that he was “pleased” with the “tremendous progress” made under Engelbert — who was at the helm for a contentious CBA agreement in March, as well as six new expansion teams.

The Golden State Valkyries — the newly announced host for the 2027 WNBA All-Star game — joined the league in 2025.

Both the Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire launched in 2026. The Cleveland Sirens are set to begin play in 2028, followed by Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030.

Despite the league’s growth, Engelbert came under fire for relationships with players, or lack there of, as well as the handling of social justice issues and treatment of players on and off of the court.

Other players, such as Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier, have voiced their displeasure with Engelbert at the helm.

With a heart full of panic and despair, Stacey Fazenbaker raced across the parking lot of her medical practice toward her car.

Inside the vehicle was her ten-month-old granddaughter, Scottie Gwyn Crowell, who should have been dropped off at daycare eight hours earlier.

According to police reports, instead of heading to daycare, Fazenbaker drove to the Owensboro Health Multicare in Madisonville, Kentucky, where she works as a family doctor, apparently forgetting that Scottie was in the back seat.

The frantic effort to reach the car ended in heartbreak. Scottie was found unresponsive in her car seat as the day’s temperature had surged to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, far higher within the confines of the car, officials stated.

At 61, Fazenbaker had relocated to Madisonville just a year prior to be closer to her 33-year-old daughter, Sydni Crowell, who works as an OB/GYN at a nearby clinic.

Madisonville Police said Crowell had an early shift last Thursday, and asked Fazenbaker to pick up the baby girl and take her to daycare on her own way to work.

As a doting grandparent, she was eager to help ferry Scottie and her three-year-old brother around to give their working parents a break, and picked her up between 6.45 and 7am.

But like dozens of American parents, family and caregivers every year, police said this time she forgot the baby girl was right behind her.

No one realized what had happened to Scottie until her father, Micah Crowell, arrived at the daycare about 4pm and was told she was never dropped off.

Police said the confused dad called his wife, who rang Fazenbaker for the worst conversation of her life.

‘She (Fazenbaker) ran outside with some co-workers to get the child. But it was far too late by then,’ Madisonville Police Major Jason McKnight told reporters.

‘Officers arrived on scene, [paramedics] and the fire department arrived shortly after they did, and they found the infant.

‘The grandmother had already got the child, and so the officers tried some lifesaving measures, but unfortunately it was too late for that.’

Officers said they were investigating Scottie’s death and urged locals to leave the infant’s family alone while they do their jobs. 

Scottie was born on September 20, 2025, via in vitro fertilization, after her parents failed to conceive when trying for a second child.

‘After a failed embryo transfer, this beautiful IVF baby has brought us such joy,’ Crowell wrote next to a photo of her swaddled newborn.

Crowell had only just started at Baptist Health Deaconess in February last year after completing her residency at Mercy Hospital in St Louis.

Photos on her social media accounts showed the adorable baby girl playing at the beach and being cuddled by her big brother.

Those posts have been replaced by announcements of Scottie’s funeral at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home on Thursday, with donations to a memorial fund.

‘We love you so much, our sweet baby girl,’ Sydni’s sister Emmy Fazenbaker, a sports reporter for Middle Tennessee State University, wrote.

Fazenbaker’s family did not answer calls from the Daily Mail. 

No charges have been laid against Fazenbaker, and police said they were still investigating exactly what happened.

‘This case is actively being investigated by detectives as they gather video footage, interview coworkers, speak with daycare workers and look at phone records,’ McKnight said.

‘As the picture becomes clearer on how this could have possibly happened, there is a possibility charges are sought before the grand jury convenes.’

Fazenbaker had a blood test for drugs and alcohol that is still being processed, but police said they don’t expect it will come back positive.

An autopsy was done on Scottie’s body last week as part of the investigation.

Fazenbaker’s patients, both in Madisonville and her former practice in Owensboro, rallied to her defense online.

‘She is the most caring person and doctor I have ever met. She has helped thousands of people with her functional health knowledge,’ Angela Ocasio wrote.

‘She moved to Madisonville to be close to her family and grandchild. It was a mistake, we all make them, unfortunately this was a fatal one. 

‘This is a life altering situation for many people. Praying hard for her, the family, and everyone else affected by this.’

Theresa Tichenor, who said she was a former patient, added: ‘She will spend the rest of her life with regrets. You’re not in her shoes, please don’t judge.’

Other patients recalled how Fazenbaker prayed with their husband when he was diagnosed with stage four cancer, and was ‘the only doctor who cared enough’ to diagnose and treat their son.

Police have said they wanted to fully investigate the incident before deciding whether Fazenbaker should face criminal charges. 

‘We understand the emotions the community is feeling in this case… We are not sitting idle waiting to present this to the grand jury,’ McKnight said.

Police can level various charges from neglect to manslaughter after hot car deaths, depending on what harm comes to a child and the circumstances surrounding them being left.

However, parents who mistakenly believe their children were not in the car are often not charged as the pain of losing a child is considered punishment enough.

About 37 children die from being left in a hot car every year across the US, including at least 23 in Kentucky since 1998, according to statistics by No Heat Stroke.

Texas and Florida had by far the most deaths with 155 and 115, and the hot South and South West had the most per capita.

Children can’t regulate their temperature as efficiently as adults and their body temperatures warm three to five times faster.

Heatstroke sets in when body temperature reaches 104F and organs begin to shut down at 107F.

Temperatures inside a car can rise to 104F in just half an hour on a 70F day, and reach 115F in an hour. On a 95F day it would get to 140F in an hour.

Cracking the window only reduces the internal temperature by about 3F.

As difficult as it is to imagine forgetting your child in a car, experts explain that parents often function on autopilot and lose awareness that a child is there.

No Heat Stroke suggested putting a soft toy in the front seat to remind you there was a child in the car, or putting items you need in the back seat next to the child.

Vehicles should also be locked at all times and keys kept out of reach to stop curious children climbing in and getting locked inside.

In Arizona, a manhunt is underway following a tragic early morning shooting that claimed the life of a 23-year-old Tucson police recruit. The victim’s 23-year-old partner, who works as a corrections officer in Pima County, was also injured, sustaining a gunshot wound that has left her hospitalized, according to official reports.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has disclosed that they are actively searching for several suspects. Described as Hispanic males, the suspects were last seen wearing black attire and ski masks. They were traveling in a gray Acura MDX, which is notably missing the piece covering the gas cap.

Originally reported as husband and wife, the couple’s relationship status is clarified as engaged by authorities, with the additional information that they share a child together, according to Sheriff Chris Nanos.

“This is a pretty sad day for law enforcement today,” Sheriff Nanos expressed solemnly during a Wednesday news briefing, highlighting the emotional impact of the incident on the community.

The initial call came in at 6 a.m. regarding a home in the 7700 block of South Enchanted Spring Drive, about 17 miles southwest of Tucson.

Responding deputies found the male victim, later identified as TPD recruit Carlos Ramirez, dead and rushed the female to a hospital, where she was in stable condition, the sheriff said.

Tucson Police Chief Monica Prieto is asking anyone with information to call 911.

Prieto called it both a “tragic event and tremendous loss for … our community, this city and our department.”

Nanos said during a news briefing he expected to be briefed by detectives when more information is available.

A PCSD spokesperson said the shootings are not believed to be connected to the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, which took place on the other side of town at her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills Feb. 1.

Olivia Rodrigo is planning an epic test for a park in Southern California.

An impressive crowd of 45,000 fans is set to converge on Irvine’s Great Park for the debut of the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival at the month’s end. This gathering is expected to significantly exceed the capacity of the park’s traditional concert space, which is designed for much smaller audiences.

Following the massive traffic snarls during Irvine’s last major event on July 4, 2025, city officials are taking proactive measures to prevent a repeat scenario.

The highly anticipated festival on August 29 has already sold out and promises to be a landmark occasion for the vast Orange County venue. Headlined by Rodrigo, the event boasts an all-star female lineup featuring legends and fresh faces alike, including Stevie Nicks, Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, Karen O, Sarah McLachlan, and Katseye.

However, before attendees can enjoy a day filled with music, they face the challenge of actually reaching the park, which might prove to be a logistical puzzle.

The Great Park’s existing concert venue, Great Park Live, is designed for crowds of just 10,000, so the festival will have to transform the area for the occasion.

Organizers will use the Great Park Live stage, and will build out another main stage next to the park’s iconic orange balloon to accommodate the 45,000 fans coming out for the event.

To stop the girlies from spilling out into the quiet nearby streets, the surrounding area will be turned into a fortress of sorts.

Cops are shutting down residential streets, and locals will need to flash proof of residency to get a city “dashpass” to drive to their homes.

Anyone caught parking without a pass will be slapped with a hefty fine or towed.

“We will have a strong police presence in the area controlling traffic and parking,” Irvine PD Public Information Officer Kyle Oldoerp told the Voice of OC.

The festival’s net proceeds will go to women’s charities, including Baby2Baby, Planned Parenthood, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and more.

The 1,300-acre Great Park in Irvine is a $1 billion mega-project, undergoing a massive overhaul that city leaders hope will turn the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro into Southern California’s next major entertainment and tourism hub.

While plans call for a 10,000-seat amphitheater, called The Amp, Great Park Live is a temporary live music venue that opened in 2024, while the permanent amphitheater is still being built.

In a tragic turn of events, Roger Duarte, celebrated chief executive and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, was among the seven individuals who perished in a helicopter crash during a safari in Kenya on Wednesday.

Renowned for his Midas touch in the seafood industry, 42-year-old Duarte, hailed from Miami, Florida. He resided in a lavish $2.8 million mansion with his wife and their two young sons, embodying the American Dream through hard work and entrepreneurship.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his grief-stricken father, Roger Duarte Sr., who spoke with the Daily Mail just hours following the incident.

“I’m very devastated right now,” said the elder Duarte, his voice heavy with emotion at 82. “I don’t have the words to express my feelings.”

He continued by acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the crash, “We don’t know much about what happened,” he admitted, adding that investigations are underway to uncover the details of this tragic accident.

José Suárez, the president and general manager of several Telemundo-owned stations in Florida, also died in the crash, according to NBC, where he also previously worked.

The 55-year-old executive was remembered by NBC as ‘a visionary leader committed to expanding and growing Telemundo’s markets’ during his 18-year career with the company.  

Suárez and Duarte were among the group of six tourists, including four Americans, who were on the ill-fated safari on Wednesday morning. 

They were flying from the Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area in Samburu County when the helicopter plummeted to the ground in the rugged foothills of Mount Ololokwe at 9.13am, according to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. 

All six of the tourists on board, along with the Kenyan pilot, perished in the crash. The cause of the tragedy is not yet known. 

Duarte left a lucrative career in investment banking at the age of just 24 to start his own business – George Stone Crab, an international delivery service of stone crabs from the Florida Keys. 

The business earned him a place in the Forbes 30 under 30 list for 2016, and the magazine praised his company for becoming ‘the largest distributor of Florida stone crabs to Latin America.’

He also founded two more Miami-based food businesses, My Ceviche and Zuuk Mediterranean Kitchen, according to his LinkedIn profile.  

The self-made millionaire has been pictured on the red carpet in Miami with his wife, Nicole Valls, 43, who he was married to for almost five years. 

They had built a stunning life in their four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion in the affluent Coral Gables neighborhood located close to downtown Miami. 

Duarte appeared to have gone on the trip to Kenya with a group of friends, who have been named by local press. The Mail has not yet verified their identities. 

The helicopter crashed in the foothills of Mount Ololokwe, which is home to roaming wild leopards and elephants, making it a popular destination for wildlife tours.

The aircraft, a Eurocopter EC130 B4 owned by local company Lady Lori Helicopters, was carrying guests with travel company &Beyond. 

Lady Lori Helicopters said in a statement that the aircraft was operating a charter flight when it crashed.

Tropic Air Kenya, a local safari operator, said it dispatched two of its helicopters to aid search and rescue operations.

The Kenya Red Cross also said that its emergency response teams were ‘participating in a multiagency response effort as rescue teams work to access the crash site.’

Helicopter crashes are becoming increasingly frequent in Kenya, which has a vibrant tourism industry dependent on domestic carriers to ferry visitors to distant locations.
