A homeless man found sleeping inside a church escalated a disturbance into a violent encounter by allegedly wielding a 5-foot metal pipe against three workers who had roused him, according to police reports.

Identified as 28-year-old Donald Malone, the individual was apprehended following the Saturday morning incident at Trinity United Methodist Church, situated near the intersection of Bancroft Way and Dana Street in Berkeley. Contractors on site around 10:45 a.m., who were engaged in renovations of the long-shuttered church, discovered Malone within the premises.

A verbal exchange quickly deteriorated into a heated confrontation.

Video footage captured on a cellphone depicts Malone grasping the metal pipe, displaying aggressive behavior while shouting at the trio of workers, as one of them contacted the authorities.

In the video, Malone can be heard shouting, “Hey! You’re acting like you’re innocent!” showcasing the intense nature of the stand-off.

“He’s approaching us,” one victim told the dispatcher.

“Get away from me!” Malone yelled, according to the video, which cuts off shortly afterward.

Malone then attacked the three contractors with the pipe, police said.

Cops allegedly found extensive damage in the building worth an estimated $20,000.

A UC Berkeley police officer happened to be driving nearby and was flagged down by the victims, Malone was then arrested.

Alameda County prosecutors charged Malone with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of vandalism.

Electrical equipment had been damaged, speakers were knocked over and a drum set was smashed, Berkeley police spokesman Officer Byron White said.

The alleged attack happened across from UC Berkeley’s Recreational Sports Facility, the university’s main gym, during a busy move-in weekend for Cal students.

Malone has a prior assault conviction, according to court records.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed a petition Tuesday to revoke his probation.

In a surprising twist of events, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to make their return to the United Kingdom this month, marking six years since they ventured across the Atlantic to the United States.

The couple, famously known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are planning an extended stay in the UK. This time, it seems their children, Archie and Lilibet, will be settling into a British educational experience as they enroll in local schools.

The family will reside in a private home, distancing themselves from royal duties as non-working royals.

It was only over the weekend that King Charles learned from Harry himself about the plans to return later this month.

Welcoming the reunion, King Charles expressed eagerness to see Harry and his family under personal and private circumstances. However, he emphasized that there would be no change to Harry and Meghan’s status, honoring their long-standing desire to remain non-working members of the royal family.

Sources insist, however, it is not in the Sussexes’ ‘plan’ to return to the royal fold. The Mail also understands that no mention of the family’s return was raised or discussed when Harry, Meghan and their children met with the King at Highgrove earlier this summer.

This suggests that Charles may have been blindsided by their latest announcement.

Harry, 41, was already scheduled to visit the United Kingdom to attend a WellChild Awards bash next month and was set to stay in a room at Buckingham Palace.

But the Duke and Duchess no longer require accommodation for their patronages with the whole family believed to be returning within the next two weeks. 

Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, are thought to have already enrolled at a British school – and the family are reportedly planning to stay fir an ‘extended period’ until the children finish education. 

It is not yet know, however, whether the move will be a permanent one. The location of Harry and Meghan’s new home has remained unknown for privacy reasons.

Harry and Meghan are set to retain their £11million home in Montecito, California, which they have lived in since moving across the pond in 2020. They also still own a residence in Portugal.  

The surprise news comes six years after the couple left Britons in disbelief when they stepped down as working royals.

In a statement released at the time, following a 12-month review, Elizabeth II announced they would not ‘continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service’.

The former monarch added that they would not be maintaining a ‘half-in, half-out’ approach to their duties. Harry was later stripped of his honorary military titles.

The pair, who wed in 2018, were blasted at the time for failing to consult Charles, Camilla or Prince William before announcing their exit. 

They were accused of ‘press[ing] the nuclear button’ and made the bombshell announcement just days after returning from a six-week break in Canada. They later permanently moved to California in March, 2020 in a move that was widely dubbed ‘Megxit’. 

Royal aides who accused Meghan of bullying them said they were frightened of ‘what she would do to them’ after they spoke out, it was claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex’s staff were left ‘in a psychologically delicate state’ and ‘viewed her capacity for revenge as infinite’, an expert has alleged.

Meghan has always denied the allegations of bullying while she was working as a royal, which she described as an orchestrated smear campaign against her.

Veteran royal correspondent Valentine Low broke the bullying story in May 2021, just before Harry and Meghan were to appear on screen with Oprah Winfrey to discuss Megxit.

He claims that some of the royal staff who had worked with the Sussexes were still in a ‘very fragile state’ more than two years later – and despite the royal couple having emigrated 5,000 miles away to the US.

‘They were very worried about what Meghan would do to them. They viewed her capacity for revenge as infinite’, Mr Low said.

‘They’d left the employ of the Royal Family and they still were in a psychologically delicate state as a result of what happened to them at that time’.

The couple famously appeared in public together for the first time at the Toronto Invictus Games in 2017, pictured hand-in-hand at a wheelchair tennis event.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Vancouver Island in 2020 after quitting the royal family in what became known as ‘Megxit’.

Meghan, 43, also lived in Toronto for several years where the Netflix series Suits was filmed and famously made their first appearance together as a couple at the 2017 Invictus Games held in the city. 

Since the couple’s shock exit, Prince Harry’s relationship is said to have been strained not only with his father but with his older brother and future monarch, Prince William.

The siblings are not thought to have spoken for years, with William and Kate Middleton understood to have been ‘deeply hurt’ by allegations made in Harry’s memoir, Spare. 

It was thought that the brothers promised to put aside their differences in honour of their late mother Princess Diana. However, according to royal author Phil Dampier, who wrote Royally Suited: Harry And Meghan in their own words, the promise is broken.

Mr Dampier told the Daily Mail: ‘William and Harry put aside their differences for the unveiling of the statue of their mother Princess Diana [five years ago], but things are much worse now.

‘I think William would find it very hard to meet Harry, even to honour Diana’s memory. Next year marks the 30th anniversary of her death, so that would be an obvious time for them to try and heal their rift and at least be seen together, but I don’t think William’s heart is in it.

‘Friends tell me that, as far as he is concerned, Harry is the past, and he is only concerned about the future for his wife Catherine and their children George, Charlotte and Louis.

‘He will never forgive Harry, in my opinion, not just for leaving the Royal Family, but for the dirt he dished out in his book Spare, the Netflix show, and the Oprah Winfrey interview.

‘It led to Catherine being smeared as a racist, and he will never forget that.’

It is thought that Harry has long missed life in the UK – and has been ‘desperate’ for Archie and Lilibet to experience life where he grew up. 

With the Invictus Games set to be held in Birmingham next summer, Harry hopes that the King will join him to open the games. It is, nevertheless, currently unknown whether that will materialise.  

‘Charles may use Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday as an excuse not to be present. But one thing is certain – William won’t be there. He will make sure he is far away so there is no doubt he could make it.

‘Obviously the dates are known, but William won’t want to be anywhere near his brother. He will feel he is being used by Harry, just to benefit himself and his image.

‘Of course, William wants to support veterans and the military – after all, he will one day be King and head of the armed forces – but I just can’t see him dancing to Harry’s tune.

‘Too much has been said, it’s gone on so long, and the feelings of hurt and betrayal are too deep.’

Harry and Charles enjoyed a private reunion with Harry, Meghan and their children last month – four years after the monarch last saw Lilibet and Archie. 

The Duke and Duchess were welcomed by Charles and Camilla to the King’s private residence, Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, in a move which marked a step towards healing Harry’s relationship with his father. 

Charles, as well as Camilla, had also been subject to criticism from the 41-year-old in his 2023 memoir.

But a year later, Harry made a dash across the Atlantic Ocean to see Charles after news of his pancreatic cancer diagnosis was released.

In a tragic incident that unfolded last month, a 13-year-old boy lost his life after being ejected from a “Yo-Yo” carnival ride in Montana. A lawsuit has been filed, claiming that the carnival’s operators ignored crucial safety procedures, running the ride despite the absence of several seats and necessary restraints.

The case, brought forth by the estate of Clayton Phillips, contends that Midway West Amusements, the company behind the ride, was aware that at least ten of the ride’s chairs were missing pelvic safety belts, as well as crucial clips and connectors.

Instead of addressing these serious deficiencies, the company allegedly depended solely on employees’ memory and verbal guidance to ensure those malfunctioning chairs remained unoccupied, as outlined in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit further asserts that, due to inadequate training, employees placed Phillips in one of the unsafe chairs, contributing to the fatal incident. Meanwhile, the claim sheds light on shocking oversights in addressing the ride’s safety issues.

“C.J.P. was thrown, ejected, and/or fell from the moving Yo-Yo … fell from a substantial height and violently struck the ground and/or surrounding surface,” the lawsuit states.

Designed to swing outward and elevate passengers as its rotational speed increases, the Yo-Yo ride hurled Phillips from his seat; he died from his injuries two weeks later.

The lawsuit names the government of Butte-Silver Bow, Midway West Amusements, ride inspection company Shady Acres Safety Services, and its owner, Dennis Sutherland, as defendants. They did not immediately respond to News Media’s requests for comment.

It also cites 20 unidentified individuals or entities — including managers, ride operators, maintenance personnel and contractors — whose specific roles and identities were unknown at filing.

According to the lawsuit, Midway West representative Michelle Jensen admitted to the ride’s mechanical deficiencies when interviewed by law enforcement after the crash.

Phillips’ family is seeking unspecified damages, including all compensatory, general, special, economic, and non-economic damages, as well as compensation for lost future earnings, medical expenses and emergency costs.

In a surprising display of sportsmanship, the San Francisco 49ers maintained calm during their joint practice session with the Los Angeles Chargers, all without needing a pep talk from head coach Kyle Shanahan about avoiding scuffles.

Unlike the previous week’s tumultuous encounter with the Tennessee Titans, Tuesday’s joint practice unfolded without a single altercation, lasting nearly two hours. This peaceful conduct marked a stark contrast to the chaos witnessed in Nashville.

When questioned on whether he advised his team on maintaining composure, Shanahan turned the conversation light-heartedly by poking fun at former 49ers defensive coordinator and current Titans head coach, Robert Saleh.

“No, their head coach [Jim Harbaugh] showed more discipline than Tennessee’s,” Shanahan quipped, playfully referencing his colleague’s leadership style.

However, Shanahan was quick to clarify that his comment was all in good humor, reinforcing the friendly rapport he shares with his longtime associate.

Shanahan explained that several incidents occurred early in the 49ers’ practice with Tennessee, causing tension to escalate throughout the session.

The Tennessee practice featured four fights during the opening 10 minutes of team drills. Titans offensive linemen Austin Deculus and Dan Moore Jr. were ejected for throwing punches, and Shanahan removed two of his own players from the session. The identity of those two 49ers was never divulged.

The difference against Los Angeles was striking. Reporters described Tuesday’s session as unusually peaceful by joint-practice standards, despite both teams working in full pads.

Saleh served as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator from 2017-2020 before leaving to become head coach of the New York Jets. He returned to the 49ers for the 2025 season and then received a second head-coaching opportunity with Tennessee.

The two coaches also worked together with the Houston Texans from 2006-2009.

Harbaugh also has ties to San Francisco, having led the 49ers to three consecutive NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl appearance during his four seasons as head coach.

His Chargers may have been more disciplined than Saleh’s Titans, but they were certainly not more accommodating. Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense repeatedly exposed San Francisco’s secondary during the practice.

The 49ers did not throw any punches Tuesday.

But, Shanahan saved a shot for Saleh.

A powerful storm system has emerged in the Pacific Ocean, bearing down on Hawaii just days after the island was battered by Hurricane Lala, which tragically resulted in the loss of at least two lives and extensive damage.

Weather experts indicate that this newly developing storm has a strong likelihood, about 90 percent, of intensifying into a tropical cyclone by Friday.

Forecasts by AccuWeather predict that this colossal system will advance to hurricane strength by Saturday and could potentially come within 100 miles of Hawaii’s Big Island shortly thereafter.

Despite various projections, the spaghetti models, which illustrate a range of possible storm tracks, suggest a scenario where the storm could make a direct impact on the Big Island as soon as Sunday.

According to AccuWeather’s lead hurricane expert, Alex DaSilva, the Big Island is particularly vulnerable to flooding, given the recent severe flooding and mudslides caused by Lala over the previous weekend.

Early forecasts predict that the Big Island and its closest neighbor, Maui, could see between four and eight inches of rain as the hurricane passes. Some areas on the Big Island may see closer to 12 inches of rain, with AccuWeather warning of a worst-case scenario of 24 inches.

Police in Hawaii have blamed two deaths on Hurricane Lala, which struck Hawaii on August 15 and caused an estimated $3-5 billion in destruction, including 100 homes being damaged or washed away in floods and mudslides.

Currently named Invest 90, the developing storm is less than 1,400 miles from Hawaii. If a cyclone forms and it reaches sustained winds of 39 to 74 mph, the National Hurricane Center will rename it Tropical Storm Iselle or Moke, depending on its location in the Pacific at that time.

Officials with NHC described the approaching storm as ‘producing showers and thunderstorms that continue to show signs of organization.’

‘A tropical depression is likely to form during the next day or so as the system moves westward,’ the weather agency’s forecast revealed. 

A tropical depression is the first stage of a tropical cyclone, where a low-pressure area forms with thunderstorms and relatively low winds.

However, these systems can quickly turn into a named tropical storm once those winds grow to a sustained speed of 39 mph with the classic swirling shape and defined center. 

Currently, AccuWeather has predicted that Invest 90 will grow into a Category 1 hurricane, meaning it is expected to develop sustained winds of 75 to 95 mph.

Hurricane Lala struck Hawaii as a Category 1 storm, with it eye coming within 30 miles of the Big Island.

Spaghetti models suggest the new hurricane could take a very similar path, although several tracks predict it will stay farther south.

‘The rainfall amounts and location of the rain is going to be largely dependent on the storm track, which could move farther south and largely miss the islands. That doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be significant impacts to land, though,’ DaSilva warned.

Governor Josh Green of Hawaii revealed that Lala damaged or destroyed over 100 homes on Hawaiʻi Island, better known as the Big Island, with most of the devastation coming during severe flooding and mudslides in the Kaʻū District on the southside of the island.

The Hawai‘i Police Department also announced that 93-year-old May Doi, who was found in the Kaʻū District, and another unidentified man were both killed during the hurricane.

CHICAGO (WLS) — In a devastating incident on Wednesday afternoon, a shooting took place in a parking lot in Chicago’s Humboldt Park, leaving three individuals wounded, according to local police reports.

The alarming event unfolded around midday, specifically in the 4000 block of West Hirsch Street, as stated by police officials.

According to police, as the victims stood in the parking lot, an assailant in a passing vehicle opened fire, targeting the unsuspecting trio.

One of the injured, a 22-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He managed to transport himself to Norwegian Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, authorities confirmed.

Another victim, aged 25, was struck in the right armpit and was subsequently rushed to Stroger Hospital. He is also reported to be in critical condition.

A 33-year-old man was shot in the the right hand and self-transported to Norwegian Hospital. CPD said he is expected to be OK.

No other information was available.
