A father died after falling from Georgia’s tallest roller coaster while riding with his son, as his wife and daughter watched in horror from the ground.

The man was aboard the Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia with his son at around 3:58 p.m. Monday when he fell from the train, witnesses said. He struck the ride several times before landing on the roof of a haunted house attraction below.

Several other people were reportedly injured, although officials have not said how many were hurt or disclosed the severity of those injuries.

The theme park was evacuated following the incident.

A witness told 11 Alive that the man’s fall appeared in a souvenir photograph taken on the ride.

“He fell and hit the car three different times,” the witness recalled.

Another witness said the man had been riding with his son, while his wife and daughter were watching from below when the tragedy unfolded.

A third person, who said on Reddit that he was waiting to board, claimed he was next in line when the train involved returned to the station.

“The train pulled into the station, all the riders were distressed, and a man who was sitting next to [the person who died] was screaming that whoever was sitting next to him fell out,” the Reddit user wrote, describing the moment as “very sad and surreal.”

Video showed ride operators evacuating passengers four at a time, helping them leave the cars and reach a nearby staircase.

According to footage posted on social media, the riders had been stranded on a steep section of the track after the attraction was shut down.

A Six Flags spokesperson said officials were “deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today.”

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends and loved ones,” the spokesperson said. The company added that it was providing support to affected guests and employees.

“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation,” the spokesperson said.

“Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”

Mableton Mayor Michael Owens said city officials were “deeply saddened by the tragic incident at Six Flags Over Georgia today.”

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the individual’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time,” Owens said in a statement. He added that Mableton Public Safety Director Dr. Kerry Stallings was coordinating with Cobb County police and park security in response to the incident.

‘We are grateful to the personnel responding to this incident, and we will continue to support coordination with the appropriate authorities,’ the mayor said.

‘Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from commenting further at this time.’ 

Cobb County Commission Chairwoman Lisa Cupid also called it a ‘terrible tragedy’ as she announced that the man’s next of kin have been notified about his untimely passing.

‘I cannot imagine the horror the patrons and employees witnessed today and my heart aches for the family who lost a loved one,’ she said, asking the public to ‘please keep in your thoughts the family of the deceased, those who were injured, the employees and leadership of Six Flags and our community.

‘We are all grappling with how something so devastating could happen at a place that has given generations of families such happy memories,’ Cupid said. 

It remains unclear what may have caused the tragedy.

The Goliath, which was manufactured by Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard, opened at the park in 2006. It reaches speeds of 70mph with an elevation of 200 feet. 

Six Flags has now closed similar rides throughout the country as the investigation continues.

‘Out of an abundance of caution we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks,’ park officials said in a statement.

‘The safety of our guests and team members remains one of our highest priorities.’ 

The Daily Mail has reached out to Six Flags Over Georgia for more information. 

The tragedy on Monday comes just one month after Six Flags Magic Mountain in California announced it was demolishing its notorious X2 rollercoaster.

‘While X2 consistently passed a multitude of safety tests, we have decided to close the ride because we believe it’s the right thing to do,’ park President Brian Oerding said in an online announcement. 

‘Ride safety is a cornerstone of our business, and when we see guest confidence affected, we take it seriously.’

The theme park had settled a wrongful-death lawsuit from the family of 22-year-old Christopher Hawley, who died after riding the coaster in 2022, and three other lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed.

The ride had then been closed since the evening of July 12, after two women who rode the coaster less than a week apart needed to be rushed to the hospital.

One of them, 25-year-old Naomi Greer-Wilkinson, collapsed shortly after the ride ended and was found to have massive brain bleeding inside the skull that required emergency brain surgery. 

She now remains in a vegetative state in the hospital, unable to speak or move and dependent on a ventilator. 

Her family has filed a lawsuit against Six Flags on her behalf, with her attorneys saying that more than 100 people have claimed they suffered brain injuries from the roller coaster over the past two years.

Another woman, 40-year-old Pamela Guillen, suffered severe brain hemorrhages after riding the X2 at Six Flags in Valencia, California. 

Her daughter, Camille Marquez, told CNN: ‘We got off the cart and we saw my mom. She looked lifeless. Not a thought behind her eyes, nothing.’

More lawsuits would be filed in the coming weeks, the lawyers then vowed.

Two bystanders, including a 1-year-old girl, were injured when gunfire broke out in the Bronx in broad daylight Monday afternoon, police said.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. outside 726 Courtlandt Ave. in Melrose. A 32-year-old man was struck in the ankle, according to the NYPD.

A bullet fragment also hit a parked 2023 Honda Civic occupied by a teenage girl and a baby, shattering one of the vehicle’s windows, authorities said.

The 16-year-old passenger escaped injury, but flying glass struck the 1-year-old girl and left her with minor wounds, police said.

Emergency medical workers transported both victims to Lincoln Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.

Investigators do not believe either victim was the shooter’s intended target, law enforcement sources said.

Surveillance footage obtained from the scene captures the tense moments leading up to the shooting. A figure dressed entirely in black walks along the block with one hand in a pocket, passing directly in front of the Honda.

The person then pulls out a gun and appears to fire at someone across the street, who is outside the camera’s view, the video shows.

It remains unclear whether the shooter seen in the footage was responsible for breaking the Honda’s window. The figure quickly vanished from the area after the gunfire.

In the video’s dramatic closing moments, a man exits a nearby building, checks on the people inside the Honda and ushers them indoors.

Neighbor Just Moore said he was returning from the grocery store with his 11-month-old child when he encountered the aftermath of the shooting.

“It’s stuff like this that’s the reason I don’t wear headphones when I’m out with her,” Moore said. “You always have to be aware of something that’s going on.”

Moore said he was not shocked to hear about a shooting in the Bronx, but the timing and location caught him off guard because the area is usually quiet.

“It’s a dangerous situation in a relatively quiet area in a relatively quiet time of the day,” he said.

Another local resident, David Valentin, said he was watching television when he heard what sounded like eight to 10 gunshots.

“I said, ‘It sounds like a gun, but it’s school time,’” Valentin recalled, describing the daytime shooting as “crazy.”

“Whatever person did that, they have to find him and get him off the streets. Because that’s dangerous,” he added.

Police sources said the teenager and the infant had no connection to the man wounded in the ankle.

No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

At about 9 a.m. Sunday, a Republican operative began sending me urgent messages and making frantic calls. He claimed to possess evidence that James Talarico, the Democratic Senate candidate whose campaign could help turn Texas blue for the first time in decades, had entered a psychiatric facility.

The alleged evidence was a six-minute recording of a call to the Lindner Center of Hope, a hospital in Mason, Ohio, located more than 1,000 miles from Talarico’s hometown of Austin.

An edited version of the call was later posted on social media, where it spread rapidly before the claim was debunked.

During the recording, a staff member repeatedly says she cannot locate a patient under Talarico’s name. At first, she says the facility has no record of him being there during the previous four days. Later, she appears to contradict herself, saying he had been “discharged this evening… that’s why I don’t have it.”

The health center has since said Talarico “never received treatment” there. Talarico, meanwhile, dismissed the recording and said he has never even visited Ohio.

Like reporters across Texas and around the country, I had been examining the mystery surrounding Talarico’s 10-day absence during a historic election and one of the most closely watched campaigns in America.

His time away included the cancellation of public appearances and private fundraisers—an unusual decision in a contest carrying such high stakes.

Talarico, 37, resurfaced Friday at an Austin music festival. Since September 30, his campaign had maintained that the diabetic candidate was dealing with a severe bout of flu. At the same time, baseless rumors were circulating among Republicans that the pressure of the campaign had affected his mental health and that he had traveled to Ohio for treatment.

When the recording was brought to me Sunday, I was told the Daily Mail needed to publish it “immediately.”

We declined to do so.

The recording raised significant questions—not only about its authenticity, but also about how it had been obtained and whether Talarico’s medical privacy had been breached.

After that refusal, the caller—Rhein Amacher, whose real name is Ryan and who describes himself as a former Trump staffer—passed the recording to paid Republican influencer Nick Sortor.

Sortor posted an edited clip of the call to X on Sunday afternoon. It accumulated millions of views within hours and drew the attention of Elon Musk, who amplified it with the comment: “!!”

Within hours, the Ohio health center rejected the story, saying the young politician had “never received treatment from Lindner Center of Hope.”

In the complete recording provided to the Daily Mail, Amacher claims to be a man named “Tim” who wants to send a care package to his cousin, Talarico.

It was his second call to the facility. During the first, staff told him they could not release information without a code supplied by the patient.

On the second call, Amacher offered a fabricated code, which the staff member struggled to connect to any patient record.

“He must have checked out then,” Amacher suggested.

‘I do not see that name here, so maybe he’s been discharged,’ says the staff member, who appears to be an elderly woman.

Amacher presses her on when he left. After a long pause, she comes back on the line: ‘I do not find anyone by that name for the last four days, that’s been discharged, and they’re not here in the building.’

Only when Amacher keeps pushing does she contradict herself: ‘What is today… looks like he was just discharged this evening. That’s why I don’t have it.’

That line was the one featured in the shortened clip that went viral. But the timeline does not add up.

Amacher admits he made the call on Saturday night, when Talarico and his girlfriend were in the front row at a Kacey Musgraves concert in Austin.

When I asked Amacher to explain the discrepancy on Monday morning, he said: ‘You can basically discharge without paperwork, and you know, the paperwork usually follows.

‘It’s not all at once, but she confirmed that he was there. The dates might not line up perfectly.’

Amacher, a Republican who wants Ken Paxton to win the election, says he came up with the idea of calling the Ohio facility after it was circulated online as the place Talarico had spent his time off.

‘[Talarico] … doesn’t get called out enough,’ he told the Daily Mail.

‘I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty. I want the public to know what he’s been doing.’

He denies being paid by Paxton, Talarico’s opponent in the Senate race.

Paxton’s team helped fuel the speculation last week by tipping off reporters about potential mental health issues. His campaign alleged, without proof, that Talarico, was not recovering from flu but had suffered a mental breakdown and checked into a mental health facility.

Legal experts said Talarico likely has grounds to sue Amacher for trying to obtain his private health information, which is protected under federal law.

Asked whether he was afraid of being sued, Amacher said he had yet to hear anything directly from Talarico or his campaign.

‘I didn’t do anything wrong. All I said was I want to send him a care package. They can confirm or deny that was a patient there. I just asked to send a care package. I could say I was Santa Claus for all I care.’

Friends have advised him to keep a low profile, he said, but he will appear on a cable TV network tonight to defend his work.

It comes as polls suggest Talarico, a former schoolteacher, could pull off a stunning Midterms upset in a state Donald Trump won by nearly 14 points in 2024.

A victory for Talarico on November 3 would make him the first Democrat elected to the US Senate from Texas since 1988.

A toddler died after a driver attempting to park struck him and his firefighter father at a Georgia shopping center, authorities said.

Off-duty Gainesville firefighter Samuel Skelton was holding his 22-month-old son, Knox, at Limestone Marketplace on Wednesday when the crash occurred, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

Police said Teresa Parker, 68, was parking a 2024 Ford Edge in a handicap-accessible space when she inadvertently accelerated over the curb, hitting Samuel and the child.

“Samuel was there, holding his 22-month-old son, Knox. Had his back to everything, didn’t even know what was coming, didn’t see what was coming,” Gainesville Police Capt. Kevin Holbrook said, according to Atlanta First News.

Knox was flown to a children’s hospital in Atlanta, where he later died from his injuries, authorities said. Samuel sustained minor injuries but did not need medical treatment, police added.

Knox was only weeks away from his second birthday, according to a fundraiser established for Samuel and his wife, Kiana Skelton.

“Sammy and Kiana Skelton recently experienced a heart-wrenching loss when their beloved son, Knox, who was just shy of his second birthday, passed away in a tragic accident,” the fundraiser stated.

According to his obituary, Knox carried monster trucks wherever he went, enjoyed visiting the park and loved “swinging on the swings on his daddy’s off days.”

“He ran the fire station like he owned the place and loved driving the fire truck just like his daddy. He preferred cookies and snacks over eating an actual meal,” the obituary said.

The Gainesville Fire Department asked the community to keep the grieving family in its thoughts and prayers.

“As many of you have heard by now, one of our own and his wife experienced a heartbreaking tragedy yesterday—one that no parent should ever have to endure,” the department said in a statement.

“Samuel and Kiana Skelton are two of the most humble, caring, and genuine people you could ever meet. Our department is heartbroken by this tragedy, and we ask that our community surround the Skelton family with love, prayers, and support as they navigate this incredibly difficult time,” the statement continued.

“Members of public safety are often called upon to respond to some of the most heartbreaking and unimaginable situations our communities face. We train and prepare to handle these difficult moments, but nothing can prepare you for when tragedy strikes one of your own.”

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, police said.

Parker stayed at the scene and has not been charged.

“This was just a tragic accident, altogether. You had an elderly female who did not intentionally do this,” Holbrook said.

After 28 years and more than 30,000 miles on the road, adventurer Karl Bushby has finally reached the United Kingdom.

Bushby announced on Oct. 5 that he had swum the English Channel from France to England. Taking a break in Dover, he looked out at the Union Jack flying beyond his hotel and said, “I’m staring at the Union Jack flying outside this hotel. I’ve seen many flags over the days, but that one is special.”

He later shared a photo of one of his first meals back in Britain, celebrating with a plate of authentic fish and chips.

The expedition is not finished. Bushby plans to complete the final stretch and reach his mother’s home in Hull by the end of the month.

According to his website, the idea began with a birthday card from his father in the 1990s. It described two soldiers debating an apparently impossible journey from London to New York via the Bering Strait. Bushby picked up a map, drew a route between the cities and realized he had found his life’s mission.

The former paratrooper set out from Chile on Nov. 1, 1998, carrying just a few hundred dollars. “South America, you were young, it was all new, it was the boys adventure dream,” Bushby said.

He traveled north through the Americas, waiting for the Bering Strait to freeze so he could cross from Alaska into Russia. When Russia rejected his visa application in April 2012, the expedition came to a halt. In protest, Bushby began walking in the opposite direction toward the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. The ban was eventually reversed, allowing him to resume the journey. From Russia, he continued through Mongolia and China before swimming across the Caspian Sea from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan.

From there, his route carried him onward into Europe.

“You’ll find that you are way more capable than you think you are; people always underestimate themselves. The world always looks bigger and scarier than it actually is,” Bushby said.

Bushby initially believed the journey would take 12 years. Instead, visa restrictions, the 2008 financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical upheaval, detention and several dangerous encounters repeatedly delayed him. Through it all, he says, the people he met kept him moving.

“The world is an incredible place, and it’s the people, the strangers that I have met along the way, that have kept me upright and moving forward,” Bushby said.

About 240 miles remain before Bushby reaches the end of a journey spanning 29 countries. “We went at a reasonable pace, we did what we needed to do and it has worked. I know it’s time to stop, I know that much because I feel that in the knees and ankles,” he said.
