Federal agents questioned Rep. Ilhan Omar’s sister last week, following a search of the Minnesota Democrat’s Washington, DC, residence as part of an ongoing immigration fraud investigation.

Sahra Noor voluntarily met with investigators sometime after the Oct. 12 raid on the home Omar shares with her husband, Tim Mynett, Fox News Digital reported, citing three sources familiar with the matter. The specific subjects discussed during the interview were not immediately known.

Noor had been expected to speak Thursday at the University of Minnesota’s Rochester campus about her new book, “Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story.” However, a representative of the bookstore sponsoring the appearance said Noor called it off because of a “family emergency.”

The Post reported Wednesday that investigators had obtained DNA samples as they work to determine whether Omar — along with potentially other relatives — misled immigration officials.

According to one source, the DNA material could be central to allegations that Omar married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 as part of an effort to help him obtain a green card. That application was ultimately unsuccessful.

Two other sources said evidence collected during the home search, along with information supplied by whistleblowers and government records, has given prosecutors a substantial foundation to seek an indictment from a grand jury on conspiracy charges tied to immigration fraud.

The Minnesota US Attorney’s Office is leading the immigration-related inquiry. Separately, DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro is supervising an examination of Omar and Mynett’s finances, including House disclosure filings that led Omar to reduce her reported net worth by tens of millions of dollars over the past year. She attributed the change to an unexplained accounting “discrepancy.”

Omar has consistently rejected allegations that she married a sibling. The claim first became public in 2016, when she was campaigning for a seat in Minnesota’s state legislature.

Elmi and Omar divorced in 2017. In 2019, Elmi filed for a marriage-based green card but later withdrew the application after US Citizenship and Immigration Services requested more details about his relationship with Omar, The Washington Post reported last week.

Tom Homan, the Trump administration’s border czar, said Saturday that investigators had assembled “a strong case” that could potentially result in Omar losing her US citizenship. Omar has lived in the country since her family left war-torn Somalia and arrived through Kenya in 1995.

Earlier sources said the alleged immigration fraud may involve Omar or her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, supposedly providing an inaccurate birth date for the future congresswoman so she could obtain US citizenship when her father became a naturalized citizen in 2000.

Legal specialists have said the time limit for prosecuting false statements on immigration documents is longer than the limit for marriage fraud. They also note that a conviction for marriage fraud would not threaten Omar’s citizenship in the same manner as a case alleging false information in immigration paperwork.

Omar has married three times and divorced twice. Although she and Ahmed Hirsi held an Islamic wedding ceremony in 2002, their marriage was not legally formalized until after Omar’s divorce from Elmi was complete.

The congresswoman has three children, including one born while she was legally married to Elmi. Documents previously examined by The Post suggest that Omar, Elmi and Hirsi may have lived under the same roof at one point.

The family history is further complicated by Omar filing joint tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and 2015, even though she remained legally married to Elmi, from whom she had separated in 2011.

Omar’s father has also been linked to several surnames, among them Nur Said Elmi Mohamed.

Omar ended her marriage to Hirsi in 2019 and later married Mynett, a political consultant who had worked on her campaign. The marriage followed reports of an alleged affair.

In a letter sent to the Justice Department last week, Omar’s lawyers said they had “grave concerns” about the investigation and demanded that all property taken during the search be returned immediately.

Attorneys Amy Jeffress and Joshua Matz argued that federal agents failed to follow a magistrate judge’s “special requests” governing the warrant’s execution. They also accused the Justice Department of disregarding its longstanding policy by carrying out the search just over three weeks before the midterm elections.

A Justice Department spokesperson pushed back, saying the lawyers’ letter was “riddled with false allegations and inaccuracies.”

“Our attorneys and law enforcement partners complied with all court orders and legal obligations, as they always do,” the rep added. “Leaking a letter to the press right after sending it is not good faith. It is a publicity play.”

An 81-year-old Mississippi homeowner was killed with his own firearm during an alleged early-morning break-in, while his wife escaped and called 911, authorities said.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards told News Media that Eric Basco allegedly entered Bobby McGill’s residence at about 4 a.m. Thursday as McGill and his wife, Peggy, slept.

According to Edwards, McGill confronted Basco, who gained control of the homeowner’s gun during the struggle and shot McGill several times.

Edwards said investigators believe the confrontation began when McGill tried to reach for a pistol kept in a chest at the foot of his bed. “It appears that there was a struggle that had ensued between the assailant and the homeowner,” the sheriff said, explaining that Basco may have taken the weapon during the fight before shooting McGill multiple times.

Peggy McGill made it out of the house and contacted emergency dispatchers, reporting that someone had entered the home and attacked her husband, Edwards said.

The sheriff said investigators believe burglary was the likely motive. After the shooting, Basco went into a bathroom and shot himself. He later died at a hospital.

Investigators also reviewed video recorded the night before the deadly home invasion. The footage appears to show Basco walking along a road roughly 1.5 miles from the McGill residence, raising his hands and shouting words that may have been “God is dead.”

“It sounds like on the video that we saw that he was saying, ‘God is dead,’” Edwards said, while stressing that investigators could not confirm the words with complete certainty. He noted that McGill’s property displayed a cross and a sign reading, “Jesus is Lord,” but said it remained unknown whether those religious symbols had any connection to the attack.

“It was a very sad, tragic thing, just for no reason,” Edwards said.

Edwards said Basco had no known criminal record beyond minor traffic offenses. The sheriff suggested that Basco may have been experiencing a serious mental health issue or some other condition that affected his judgment.

He described Bobby and Peggy McGill as “very good citizens.”

In a Facebook tribute, McGill’s granddaughter wrote, “My Papaw loved the Lord above all else & he loved his family with his whole heart.”

“What a great man. He led his life by example of what it looks like to walk with Jesus. He made sure you couldn’t leave a conversation with him without hearing about Jesus. His faith became sight this morning,” she continued. “How lucky are we to have the hope of eternity so we can see him again one day. This world & the people in it can be so evil. Please be in prayer for our family in the days to come.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s complicated family history has moved to the center of a federal criminal investigation after Homeland Security agents searched her Washington, DC, residence last week.

According to The New York Times, investigators are examining the immigration records of Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, and whether he provided false or incomplete information on government forms.

Omar has said she became a US citizen in 2000, at age 17, through her father—a pathway unavailable to people who are 18 or older. In May 2019, her staff changed her birth year from 1981 to 1982 in her biography on the Minnesota Legislature’s website, The New York Post reported.

During the October 12 search of the Northeast Washington home she shares with her husband, Tim Mynett, agents took her phone and passport. Federal grand jury subpoenas have also been issued to her sister, Sahra Noor, and at least one other person connected to the family.

The investigation marks the second time the Trump administration has scrutinized Omar’s immigration history. Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative branch operating under ICE, reviewed her case in 2019 but found “insufficient evidence of wrongdoing,” a former official told The Washington Post.

The latest inquiry has also brought renewed attention to allegations surrounding Omar’s 2009 marriage to British citizen Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin claimed on a podcast in September, “We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States.” No public evidence has been presented to support that allegation.

Omar, who denies any wrongdoing and has not been charged, has called the marriage allegation “absurd and offensive.” She characterized the search of her home as an effort to target political opponents.

The Daily Mail examines Omar’s complex family history, from the “colonel” father whose immigration records are now under scrutiny to the husband accused—without publicly presented evidence—of being her brother, and the political consultant she married in 2020.

THE ‘COLONEL’ FATHER

Nur Omar Mohamed relocated his family to the United States in 1995, following four years in a refugee camp in Kenya. The family initially settled in the Washington suburbs and later moved to Minneapolis.

He worked as a taxi driver before taking a job with the US Postal Service. Omar has also described her father as an educator.

Somali historian Mohamed Haji Ingiriis disputed that account in comments to The New York Post, saying, “Ilhan’s father was never an educator.” Ingiriis described Nur as “a full colonel in Siad Barre’s military regime.”

Ingiriis has further alleged that Nur “misrepresented himself as a refugee” to US officials, arguing that he remained loyal to the dictatorship until its collapse in 1991.

Those immigration records now form a central part of the federal investigation because Omar has said she gained US citizenship through her father’s naturalization.

Nur died in June 2020 at age 67 from complications related to Covid. “No words can describe what he meant to me and all who knew and loved him,” Omar wrote after his death.

Omar’s mother, Fadhuma Abukar Haji Hussein, died when Ilhan was two years old. Her father and grandfather then helped raise her as the youngest of seven children. Omar has offered few public details about her other siblings.

THE SECOND HUSBAND AND ALLEGED BROTHER

Omar married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen, in February 2009, when records gave their ages as 26 and 23.

The couple filed their marriage license application in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and despite both being Muslim, their ceremony was conducted by a Christian minister, Wilecia Harris.

‘If they had gone to an imam he would have almost certainly have known if they were related,’ one Somali leader in Minnesota told the Daily Mail.

Abdihakim Osman Nur, a Minneapolis community leader, told the Daily Mail in 2020 that Omar and Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her children, had introduced Elmi to him as her brother.

‘She said she needed to get papers for her brother to go to school,’ Nur said. ‘We all thought she was just getting papers together to allow him to stay in this country.’

Elmi enrolled at North Dakota State University, Omar’s alma mater, in 2010, and university officials told the Daily Mail he was still there in 2012, a year after Omar says they split.

The couple divorced in 2017. Omar has called the suggestion that Elmi is her brother ‘absurd and offensive,’ and her 2020 memoir described him as a man ‘whom I spent so little time with that I wouldn’t even make him a footnote in my story.’

Elmi has since returned to London, the Daily Mail has reported, and has not responded to past requests for comment.

THE BABY DADDY (AKA ‘SOUTHSIDE’)

Ahmed Hirsi, known as ‘Southside’, is the father of Omar’s three children. They wed in a 2002 religious ceremony, but it was not a legal marriage.

The pair split in 2008, but Omar says they reconciled in 2011 while she was still legally married to Elmi, and their third child followed a year later.

She filed joint federal tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and 2015 while still legally married to Elmi, according to a 2019 report by Minnesota’s Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.

Omar and Hirsi finally married legally in January 2018, a month after her divorce from Elmi, but the marriage lasted less than two years.

The marriage effectively ended when Hirsi visited Omar’s Washington apartment and found her lounging around in pajamas with Tim Mynett, the Daily Mail reported.

They divorced in November 2019, and Hirsi remarried in Mogadishu just 37 days later.

THE MILLIONAIRE CURRENT HUSBAND

Tim Mynett, a Democratic political consultant who converted to Islam, married Omar in March 2020.

The Daily Mail revealed their relationship in 2019, after the pair were spotted dining at an Italian restaurant in Playa Del Rey, California, while both were married to other people.

His then-wife, Beth Mynett, filed for divorce that August, citing his ‘devastating and shocking declaration of love’ for Omar.

Omar’s campaign went on to pay his firm, E Street Group, more than $2.8 million over the 2019-20 election cycle, federal filings show.

Mynett later co-founded venture capital firm Rose Lake Capital. Omar’s original disclosure covering 2024 valued his stake at between $5 million and $25 million, compared with $1-$1,000 the previous year.

The reported value of his stake in winery eStCru rose from between $15,000 and $50,000 to between $1 million and $5 million over the same period.

Omar later amended the filing to give both interests no net value, with her office blaming an accounting error involving ownership shares and liabilities.

Omar’s office said in September that the Office of Congressional Conduct had voted to dismiss misconduct allegations over the filings. Pirro’s office is conducting a separate criminal investigation into the valuations.

Mynett defended his wife outside their home last week, telling Fox News: ‘My wife came here when she was 12 years old as a child war refugee.’

THE AUTHOR SISTER

Sahra Noor, Omar’s older sister, was among those who received grand jury subpoenas last week, the New York Times reported.

Noor, who holds degrees in nursing and health systems administration, now runs a consulting firm that says it has secured ‘more than $20 million in funding for health initiatives.’

Her memoir, Salt in the Snow, came out in August and explores migration, belonging and the influence of her father.

Receiving a grand jury subpoena does not mean Noor is suspected of a crime, and she has not been charged.

THE CHILDREN

Adnan Hirsi, 20, is Omar’s only son. Minneapolis police searched the apartment he shares with Abdulrahman Abdi, 22, on August 25, seizing guns and ammunition belonging to Abdi, Fox News reported.

Abdi, a convicted felon, faces a weapons charge, but Adnan is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Omar, who supports red flag laws and has voted for an assault weapons ban, did not answer a reporter’s questions on Capitol Hill in September after police searched her son’s apartment.

Isra Hirsi, 23, is the eldest and co-founded the US Youth Climate Strike as a teenager, landing on Fortune’s 40 Under 40 list in 2020. Ilwad, the youngest, was born in 2012.

WASHINGTON — Adam Hamilton, the Democratic Methodist minister challenging Republican Sen. Roger Marshall in Kansas, has questioned whether artificial intelligence is quickly turning into a modern “Tower of Babel.” At the same time, his financial disclosures show that he and his wife may hold as much as $4 million in shares of companies developing AI infrastructure and data centers in the state.

In an interview with Politico earlier this month, Hamilton said the federal government should consider slowing the expansion of artificial intelligence long enough to establish effective safeguards and policies. “We can create the right solutions and safeguards,” he said.

The candidate also criticized government incentives for large corporations constructing data centers in local communities. In a July statement, he argued that such projects could increase electricity bills and place additional pressure on already limited water supplies.

Yet Hamilton’s own wealth is closely tied to the technology sector. Senate disclosures filed in June placed his net worth as high as $20 million, with significant investments in major technology companies, including Apple, as well as businesses involved in the AI boom.

Marshall has voiced similar reservations about the rapid growth of data centers and artificial intelligence. However, his direct investment in the sector is considerably smaller than Hamilton’s, although his filings show tens of thousands of shares in funds with exposure to AI and data-center infrastructure. Marshall’s reported net worth ranges from $3 million to $9 million.

Hamilton’s 2025 income included $394,239.05 in compensation from Church of the Resurrection, the Methodist megachurch he founded. He also reported $417,372.70 in royalties from publishing deals.

His 2025 financial filing listed as much as $3.5 million in stock holdings connected to cloud-computing and data-center operators.

The investments, held by Hamilton or his wife, included between $1.1 million and $3.5 million in shares of technology giants such as Google, Meta, Microsoft and Oracle.

The disclosures also showed between $126,000 and $430,000 invested in NVIDIA and other semiconductor manufacturers, including Qualcomm and Broadcom.

Additional holdings in companies that supply data-center infrastructure were valued between $12,000 and $180,000.

Apple represented Hamilton’s most valuable individual investment, with his holdings in the company worth more than $7 million.

His wife also reported earning between $5,001 and $15,000 in interest from bonds issued by the Bank of China, a state-owned institution. She listed another $15,001 to $50,000 in interest from bonds issued by Bank Baroda, which is controlled by the Indian government.

The reason for those bond purchases is not clear, though the investments have since been sold.

Despite his personal exposure to the technology industry, Hamilton has argued that local governments should have the final say over whether data centers are built in their communities. He has also criticized billionaires and called for stronger oversight of artificial intelligence.

“If a town decides a project is worth it to land the jobs or increase their tax base, that’s their decision. But if they don’t want one, that should be their decision, too,” Hamilton said. “If you’re a data center, you should pay your own way.”

The issue is among the few areas where Hamilton and Marshall largely share the same position.

Marshall told Semafor in July that residents across his state were “on fire against” data centers. He has also, at times, questioned how much economic value the technology industry’s expansion will bring to Kansas.

“Several dozen counties have placed moratoriums on them. Certainly it is a state issue. It’s a county issue, really a zoning issue. I certainly support their moratoriums,” Marshall said.

He added that communities must resolve the demands data centers place on water and power systems, arguing that tax incentives may not be justified because the facilities create relatively few permanent jobs once construction is complete.

Still, when asked whether artificial intelligence could lead to widespread job losses, Marshall said he was “not fearful of it.”

His campaign has taken thousands of dollars over the years from data center developers such as Microsoft and Oracle.

Marshall’s personal financial disclosures also show up to $30,000 in mutual fund holdings that have been invested in semiconductor and similar technology.

Reps for the Hamilton campaign didn’t respond to requests for comment.
