A major nor’easter reached the East Coast Friday night, bringing dangerous coastal flooding and placing an estimated 40 million Americans in the storm’s path.

After sunset, the storm’s first major effects were already evident. Streets from New Jersey through Maryland turned into waterways, while powerful waves pounded the Rhode Island shoreline.

The fast-growing storm had already knocked out power for thousands of customers and forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights as it swept toward the coast.

Forecasters cautioned that the most severe weather and flooding could still lie ahead.

Officials declared a State of Emergency in New York City, parts of coastal New Jersey, Long Island and Westchester County as the strengthening nor’easter moved closer.

In Narragansett, Rhode Island, striking video captured floodwater spreading around Narragansett Pier as the shoreline took the storm’s full force.

The ocean spilled across the seawall and onto Ocean Drive, while waves battered Narragansett Town Beach and left its parking area underwater.

On New Jersey’s Long Beach Island, the Atlantic pushed inland, submerging residential roads beneath a growing blanket of seawater.

Images showed homes surrounded by floodwater and roads disappearing beneath the waves, with only mailboxes remaining visible above the rising surface.

At Surf City Bay Beach, strong gusts were already driving seawater onto the shore before the storm reached its peak intensity.

Video taken in Ocean City shortly before 10 p.m. Friday showed surging seawater spreading across roadways as flooding began to take hold in the resort town.

The hazardous weather also underscored the decision to call off the three-day Oceans Calling music festival as the nor’easter approached.

Although the storm is forecast to remain offshore over the weekend, its close passage along the coast is expected to bring damaging winds, towering waves and serious coastal flooding.

Millions of people across the region remain within the storm’s projected path.

The National Weather Service warned that portions of the Mid-Atlantic could face especially dangerous flooding, identifying New Jersey and Delaware among the areas at greatest risk.

In Manasquan, New Jersey, floodwater was already spilling onto streets as night fell Friday.

Officials earlier issued a voluntary evacuation for some of the community’s low-lying neighborhoods. 

Mayor Mike Mangan warned residents to expect ‘a lot of water in the streets for a long time.’

Sea Bright, another vulnerable New Jersey beach community, was preparing for flooding that could leave some streets beneath as much as six feet of water.

Mayor Brian Kelly urged hundreds of residents in low-lying areas to consider getting out while they still could.

‘It’s going to be worse than average,’ Kelly warned. ‘We do have probably one or two flooding events a year, sometimes more, sometimes less, but I think this one will be closer to an Irene-scale flooding event.’

He was referring to Hurricane Irene, which caused devastating flooding across the Northeast in 2011.

‘I hope I’m wrong, but that’s my gut feeling,’ Kelly added.

The town planned to open its recreation center to residents forced from their homes.

Meanwhile, forecasters warned winds could become ferocious farther north.

Peak gusts could reach between 60 and 65mph across Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket from Friday night into Saturday.

Boston could see gusts of 50 to 55mph, while inland communities could experience winds of 35 to 40mph.

Southeastern Connecticut and eastern Long Island could experience winds approaching similar speeds. 

‘It’s definitely going to be a case of the closer to the coast you are, the more impacts from the storm you’re likely to see,’ NWS meteorologist Matthew Belk said.

One particular concern is the timing. Although nor’easters are a familiar threat as New England enters fall, many trees are still covered in leaves.

Those leaves create greater resistance against powerful winds, potentially making trees and branches more likely to come crashing down.

That in turn raises the threat of blocked roads and widespread power outages.

Travel was already descending into chaos. More than 200 flights involving airports in Boston, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and New York were canceled on Friday, with further cancellations already scheduled for Saturday.

Several airlines were allowing affected travelers to change or cancel certain East Coast flights without the usual fees.

Ferry travel was also being hammered by the deteriorating weather.

Public ferries connecting Cape Cod with Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard suffered widespread cancellations on Friday as strong winds churned the ocean.

Rhode Island ferries serving Block Island were also canceled, with disruption expected to continue on Saturday.

For island residents, getting stranded by brutal coastal weather is an occupational hazard.

‘It’s a nuisance, but you know, we know what to do with this kind of stuff at this point,’ said Sean Driscoll, a spokesman for the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority. ‘This is not out of the realm of ordinary.’

The storm also tore through weekend entertainment and sporting schedules.

The Boston Red Sox rearranged their series against the Chicago Cubs, shifting Sunday’s afternoon game to Friday as part of a split doubleheader.

Ed Sheeran canceled high-profile Friday and Saturday concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, because of the dangerous conditions.

In Gloucester, Massachusetts, Ashley Destino took advantage of the last hours before the storm to bring her two young children to the beach.

‘We came to the beach on Friday afternoon because we knew we were going to be inside all weekend,’ she said.

Destino prepared Legos and arts and crafts to keep her children, aged seven and four, entertained while the family hunkered down.

She also added extra lines to secure her boat, while her husband prepared a generator in case the power failed.

Who are you going to call? If Dan Aykroyd’s story is any indication, the answer might be the NYPD.

The “Ghostbusters” star says he and Bill Murray once borrowed two fully outfitted police motorcycles and turned New York’s Central Park into their own private racetrack.

The late-night escapade took place during production of “Ghostbusters II,” which was filmed in 1988 and 1989. Aykroyd said he and Murray “appropriated” the motorcycles from the film’s vehicle department before taking them for a ride through Manhattan.

Aykroyd recalled the misadventure Wednesday while marking Murray’s 76th birthday. Alongside two vintage photos of the pair, he wrote on Instagram, “So many adventures over the years.”

“One night shooting GB2, we appropriated two fully equipped police motorcycles from the movie’s motor pool and spent an hour chasing each other around a closed Central Park with full lights and sirens,” Aykroyd wrote.

According to Aykroyd, the unauthorized joyride never resulted in disciplinary action or legal trouble.

“No consequences. After all, we were Ghostbusters,” he joked.

The 74-year-old actor also used the tribute to honor Murray, calling him “the greatest comedy leading man of our time.”

Aykroyd and Murray first crossed paths in the 1970s, when both were establishing themselves in comedy.

Their careers later intersected at “Saturday Night Live.” Aykroyd was among the original cast members, while Murray joined the NBC sketch series in its second season.

The duo became best known for starring together in the original 1984 “Ghostbusters,” sharing the screen with Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

All four original Ghostbusters returned for the 1989 sequel, “Ghostbusters II.”

Following Ramis’ death in 2014 at age 69, Aykroyd, Murray and Hudson appeared in the 2016 reboot. They later reprised their original roles in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” in 2021 and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” in 2024.

Hudson told Page Six exclusively in March that Murray still reaches out without warning.

“[Bill Murray] will call me out of the blue and invite me to something or other that I’m probably not able to do,” Hudson said.

He added, “I tell him, ‘You call me out of the blue. But when I call you, you never return my call!’”

Aykroyd, meanwhile, has become increasingly disenchanted with life in Hollywood and has spent more time in his native Canada in recent years.

During a 2023 conversation with Adam Carolla, Aykroyd said he drives “very carefully” in Los Angeles and remains indoors during what he jokingly calls “prison hours”—the late-night period he spends inside his gated community.

Taylor Swift has offered fans a rare look at her private life with new husband Travis Kelce through a new lyric video for her song “Cleveland.”

The track is the latest single from the 36-year-old pop star’s deluxe album, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.

The “Cleveland” lyric video includes previously unseen footage recorded by Swift and Kelce during a relaxed visit to his hometown of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

In several clips, the 36-year-old NFL star smiles from behind the wheel while Swift films him from the passenger seat.

“Cleveland” is one of three songs critics have labeled “duds.”

Released Friday, the new music has received a largely negative early response, with reviewers describing it as “derivative and flat.”

Much of the “Cleveland” lyric video shows two people roller-skating, including one wearing a white dress, as Swift sings about her newlywed status.

However, a source confirmed to Page Six that the frock has no connection to the actual dress Swift wore as she tied the knot with Kelce in July at Madison Square Garden.

One eye-catching detail is a pair of white skates decorated with 13 colorful hearts, a nod to Swift’s favorite number.

The words “this is the love of my life” are etched onto one of the skates.

Elsewhere, “Patient Zero” has already become Spotify’s most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day this year, according to the platform, which shared the figures ahead of the weekend.

Spotify also reported that Swift holds the record for the most-streamed female artist in a single day in 2026.

In addition to “Cleveland” and “Patient Zero,” the deluxe release includes “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.”

Swifties are also waiting for the “Patient Zero” music video, which stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell and is set to premiere Sunday at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

Fans can also look forward to the star’s forthcoming appearance at the Country Music Awards in November.

Earlier this month, Swift announced she will attend the upcoming awards show for the first time in 10 years. 

Her song I Knew It, I Knew You, from the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, is nominated for Single of the Year alongside two Ella Langley songs, as well as tracks by Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson.

The hitmaker’s fans went wild following the news, with many predicting that the singer would soon release a re-recording of her first album, Debut.

SAN FRANCISCO — Tarik Skubal delivered exactly the kind of final regular-season start the Dodgers wanted to see.

After showing flashes without consistently reaching his best during his first two months in Los Angeles, the Dodgers’ headline trade-deadline addition rediscovered his two-time Cy Young Award-winning form Friday night. Skubal overwhelmed the San Francisco Giants in a 2-0 victory, offering a promising glimpse of what he could bring to the postseason.

“That was the best we’ve seen,” manager Dave Roberts said. “He was on a mission tonight. You could see it. Everything was working … Incredibly good.”

Skubal worked seven scoreless innings, striking out 10 while permitting only three hits and issuing no walks. He needed just 75 pitches to complete one of the most efficient dominant outings of his career.

The only performance that may have surpassed Friday’s line came in Skubal’s lone career complete-game shutout, against the Cleveland Guardians last season.

“It’s just pitching aggressive and challenging them,” Skubal said. “Tough park to hit in. And the wind seemed like it was blowing in, kind of keeping fly balls in the yard tonight. So just challenge them and see how far they can hit it.”

The Dodgers already understood the type of impact Skubal could make.

When Los Angeles acquired him from the Tigers two months ago, the organization viewed him as the deadline’s most important available addition — a pitcher capable of meaningfully improving its World Series chances.

His transition to the Dodgers, however, had not been entirely smooth.

Skubal acknowledged that he had sometimes been “a little too fine,” and he recorded only one walk-free outing across his first nine starts with Los Angeles. His first scoreless appearance came two weeks earlier in Cincinnati, where he held the Reds without a run for seven innings and struck out nine. But in his next outing, he surrendered four runs over five innings against the Giants, visibly frustrated with himself before spending several days away from the club on the bereavement list.

“I’m not attacking the way I know how to attack,” he said. “My stuff’s too good to give a guy a free pass.”

The rematch at Oracle Park on Friday unfolded much differently.

Los Angeles gave Skubal an early cushion in the second inning, when Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages launched back-to-back home runs within a span of three batters. For Pages, it was his first homer since returning the previous week from a fractured hand.

With that support behind him, the 29-year-old Northern California native took control and never gave the Giants an opening.

Skubal repeatedly challenged San Francisco with his fastball — reaching 100 mph for only the third time this season — and a sharply commanded changeup. He also opened with a first-pitch strike against 21 of the 23 batters he faced.

“First-pitch strikes [are important],” Skubal said. “Today’s game gets very analytical. I think when I’m really good, it’s at the old-school stuff. Like getting ahead, winning your 1-1 counts, getting guys out in three or four pitches.”

Asked whether he felt he had “bullied” the Giants’ struggling lineup, Skubal smiled.

“I’m not going to use that word,” he joked. “That’ll make a pretty good headline if I say that.”

The outing closed Skubal’s regular season with a 12-7 record and a 2.72 ERA. Since joining the Dodgers, he has gone 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA across 10 starts, earning a victory in each of his last four decisions.

“Those numbers are great,” he said. “I think there’s just some things where I could be better. Today was a really good day. But I’ve also had some kind of poor performances … I think there’s always room for improvement. I’m not really satisfied with anything I’ve accomplished so far.”

The only caveat to Friday’s gem: The Giants are trotting out what is effectively a Triple-A lineup, as they limp to the end of a dismal 2026 season in which all of their big stars first struggled, then got hurt.

Still, there are worse ways to enter the playoffs than off the back of what was arguably his most complete start all season.

Friday, after all, was exactly what the Dodgers were envisioning when they traded for Skubal at the deadline.

They will be hoping it’s the start of more things to come in October.
