Man Allegedly Stabs 12-Year-Old Relative Over Gaming Dispute, Police Report Shocking Incident

0

Andrew Zargazeta (Broward County Jail).

In a startling incident in Florida, a 24-year-old man is accused of a violent confrontation with his 12-year-old cousin, resulting in a stabbing. The altercation reportedly erupted over unauthorized use of a gaming console.

Andrew Zargazeta now faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the Sunrise Police Department. Law enforcement officials, as outlined in an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, were called to the scene on Vista Isles Drive after reports of knife-related violence.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered the young victim with a stab wound to the hip. The child was swiftly taken to a hospital, where medical professionals confirmed the injuries were not life-threatening, as reported by the local ABC affiliate, WPLG.

The great-grandmother of the alleged victim informed police that the dispute stemmed from a heated argument about the gaming console. She intervened between the two but did not witness either party wielding a knife during the confrontation.

Shortly thereafter, the great-grandmother saw the victim walking outside. She followed him and he revealed he had been stabbed.

In an interview with cops, the victim said he was involved in a “heated argument” with Zargazeta after the suspect was using the gaming console without permission. The victim stated Zargazeta grabbed a knife from the knife block in the kitchen but put it back after their great-grandmother separated them, cops said.

The victim said he began walking to retrieve the gaming system when Zargazeta again snatched the knife and “immediately stabbed him in the right hip area,” the affidavit stated.

Cops recovered the knife behind the TV.

Zargazeta made a statement to police, but it was redacted from the affidavit. Officers arrested him and booked him into the Broward County Jail on a $20,000 bond. He remained there as of Monday afternoon. His next court date was not listed.

Bryan Kohberger Secures New Legal Representation Amid Fight for Post-Conviction Relief in Idaho Murder Case

0

Kohberger is now being represented by a new attorney, as he moves forward with his petition for post-conviction relief. This motion aims to retract his self-filed guilty plea, which he submitted approximately a year following his admission to the fatal stabbings of the students in November 2022.

The 30-year-old Kohberger has enlisted the help of attorney Greg Rauch from Moscow, Idaho, to take on his legal defense.

Rauch, in a statement to News Media, mentioned that he has not yet had the opportunity to review the petition or the case file, nor has he spoken with Kohberger. Having just been appointed on Monday morning, Rauch anticipates an initial phone conversation with Kohberger, followed by a personal visit to the prison for further discussion.

“Today, my goal is to set up phone contact with him,” Rauch said. “I gotta read the case file…I gotta check out the police reports. I gotta talk to him.”

Kohberger is being held in the J-Block unit of the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna, about 300 miles south of where the crimes took place in Moscow, near the University of Idaho campus.

Kohberger pleaded guilty in July 2025 to four counts of first-degree murder as well as a charge of burglary. Judge Steven Hippler sentenced him to four consecutive terms of life without the possibility of parole, plus another 10 years.

The plea deal required Kohberger to waive his right to appeal, however, that doesn’t block him from seeking post-conviction relief, which could reopen the case if successful.

If he succeeds in withdrawing his guilty plea, the case could go to trial, where he would face the potential death penalty.

Kohberger, in a handwritten petition on July 27, 2026, claimed that he was “convinced to falsely confess,” by his high-profile defense team of Anne Taylor, Elisa Massoth and Bicka Barlow. He alleged that they didn’t tell him about “exculpatory discovery” — hair found at the scene that was not tested for DNA. It was excluded as Kohberger’s by a physical analysis.

Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador told News Media shortly after Kohberger’s petition was filed that his office is “ready to do whatever is necessary to ensure justice is fully carried out.”

Police found Kohberger’s DNA on a knife sheath in a bed with two of the four victims, Mogen and Goncalves. They also tracked his vehicle coming and going, and forensic investigators were prepared to testify about how, although he shut his phone off during the murders, the evidence suggested he drove to and from the crime scene anyway.

Separately, Sy Ray, a former expert witness working for Kohberger’s defense team, last week alleged that there is additional damaging evidence that investigators hadn’t introduced before Kohberger’s guilty plea.

“They’ve got to release this report, because the report that changes everything has not been released,” Ray told News Media Sunday. “It hasn’t been unsealed.”

Ray said that document, known as the location database of record or LOCDBOR report, contains “pattern of life” location data that he alleges shows Kohberger stalked the victims, that he may have been inside the victims’ home before the murders and contains clues as to where he may have disposed of evidence.

“If he ever does walk, he will kill again,” he said.

NYC Subway Passengers Call for AG Letitia James to Investigate OMNY Over Unexplained Charges and Fines

0

A group of disgruntled subway commuters claims they’ve been unfairly charged and fined without reason, thanks to issues with their MTA-issued OMNY cards. They are urging New York State’s leading legal authority to dive into what they describe as a major mismanagement, sources reveal.

Passengers United, committed to standing up for everyday city travelers, informed The Post of their plans to gather outside Attorney General Letitia James’ office. Their goal is to demand an investigation into the tap-and-go fare system. The group asserts that this system has mistakenly overcharged countless New Yorkers and improperly levied fees against them.

Charlton D’Souza, president of Passengers United, expressed their concerns to The Post, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of Cubic, the developer of OMNY. “We are pushing for an inquiry into its flaws, such as overbilling and not displaying payments, which leads to mistaken penalties by fare inspectors,” D’Souza explained.

The organization isn’t stopping there; they’ve sent letters to the Attorney General, city officials, and state lawmakers. These documents include their grievances, along with a petition calling for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to rectify OMNY problems and bring back unlimited transit passes.

“The patience of New Yorkers has worn thin. We’ve reached our limit,” stated D’Souza, voicing the collective frustration.

MTA head honcho Janno Lieber was pressed on the allegations at the agency’s July 29 board meeting, pledging to fix the issue even while downplaying social media complaints.

“If anybody has an issue where they feel like they’ve been unfairly charged at the turnstile or, God forbid, handed a ticket unfairly, we want to know about it, and we will fix it,” Lieber said.

The MTA and the AG’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Aaron Rodgers Blasts ‘Coward’ Fauci in Explosive ESPN Interview

0

In a fiery appearance on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers didn’t mince words, fiercely criticizing Anthony Fauci. His comments were anything but restrained as he took the opportunity to launch a verbal assault.

Known for his skepticism towards vaccines and vocal stance during the Covid-19 pandemic, Rodgers unleashed a scathing critique of Fauci’s actions, particularly following his frequent invocation of the fifth amendment during a tense senate hearing.

As he joined McAfee on set, Rodgers casually inquired about the remaining time on air, to which McAfee mentioned they had a strict cutoff after just eight minutes.

That brief window seemed to be all Rodgers required, as he replied to a question about football by remarking, “I’m going to plead the fifth… just like that complete coward Tony Fauci.”

What followed was an unbroken 13-minute tirade, with Rodgers dominating the conversation, as McAfee and his four co-hosts broadcast live from the Steelers training camp, offered minimal interruptions.

‘Absolute coward,’ he continued of Fauci. ‘Are you kidding me? You got a pardon and you pleaded over 100 times? What are you scared of, Tony? I thought you were the science?

‘You get up there and you can’t answer a question? And how much time did the network spend on that? How much time did they spend on my responses every week? On my vaccination status? On Taylor and Travis’ wedding? Did they do even a minute on Tony Fauci? No, I bet they didn’t.

‘Go back to the coward Tony Fauci, who’s spending the entire time writing in his diary about how fun it is to be famous? What are you going to say about me now? What are you going to say about me now?

‘No, seriously, now that you can’t talk about the Covid stuff, because obviously that was made in a lab in China… that’s not even questionable any more. Tony Fauci is an absolute criminal, I’m on good terms with my family, what are you going to say now?

‘I thought you had a pardon there, Tony. Why couldn’t you answer one question? We got four more minutes, let’s keep this s*** going.’

Rodgers’ furious tirade comes after he was widely criticized in the media and by fans throughout the Covid pandemic due to his skepticism over the vaccine rollout.

He told reporters he was ‘immunized’, leading to question marks over whether he had received the jabs, and he openly criticized the NFL’s protocol to deal with the virus.

Last week, Fauci appeared before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for a volatile hearing on COVID-19.

Fauci refused to answer questions, invoking his Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself more than 100 times.

He had been called in front of the committee to be questioned on the origins of Covid, including whether a lab leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology was more likely than previously acknowledged.

Rodgers, in his appearance on ESPN, claimed that was ‘obviously’ the origin, though the truth is far more unclear and investigations are still ongoing.

‘I’ve got to give flowers to Stephen A. Smith, my old friend Stephen A,’ Rodgers continued on McAfee’s show. ‘Because he was man enough to actually admit and apologize to Kyrie Irving. So I gotta give a shoutout to my guy Stephen A, you are not a coward. I appreciate you.

‘Other than that, there’s been a lot of silence… 19 seconds on one subject, oh no don’t talk about that. We can talk about Rex Ryan’s foot fetish, but please don’t talk about anything else right now, any scandals. Talk about Taylor and Travis’ wedding, yeah what do insiders know about that?

‘I was endangering my teammates? Now look what happened. They suppressed early treatments, they lied about where it came from. Tony Fauci is writing in his journal, “I don’t want to create any vaccine hesitancy if I tell them what the actual stats are.”

‘Tony Fauci pushing his medicine, just like he did back in the 80s, and now he has an autopen pardon and you can’t answer one question? Not even your name?

‘I told you I’d be on the right side of history.’

At times during the blistering rant, McAfee covered his eyes as the live audience laughed and co-hosts looked on stunned at what they were hearing.

Rodgers, it seems, had been waiting a while for a chance to air his grievances to a national audience.

‘”I Am Science” said six foot of distancing, that’ll be a good thing,’ the Steelers quarterback continued. ‘”If we can scare them enough, they’ll probably take this vaccine that’s had zero trials done for it, we have no idea what the consequences are, there’s no informed consent, you can’t even look at the insert to know what you’re doing, they’re not even pulling the plunger back to make sure they’ve got the right spot in the arm. The insanity!

‘What are you even talking about here? I sat here among a lot of brave Americans who avoided the trillion-dollar propaganda campaign that was hijacked on the American public… and look at us now! Do you have anything to say?’

McAfee then quickly ended the broadcast on ESPN, moving to the YouTube-only portion of the show, and told Rodgers: ‘Now we’re digital, now we continue.’ A co-host joked: ‘Now you can really let loose!’

Tucson Grandmother and Cancer Survivor Tragically Killed in Apartment Attack by Alleged Felon

0

A resilient grandmother from Tucson, who had previously triumphed over cancer twice, met a tragic end after an alleged assault by a felon near her apartment, according to authorities.

The Tucson Police Department reported that Susan Gehrke, aged 61, succumbed to her injuries four days after being attacked on July 24 at her apartment complex.

Dahseir Edward Jefferson, 27, was taken into custody four days post-incident. Initially charged with two counts of aggravated assault, the charges were elevated to second-degree murder following Gehrke’s passing. He remains detained on a $650,000 bond.

In the aftermath, Gehrke’s family shared with KOLD that her injuries rendered her “unrecognizable.”

“She’s an old lady that literally worked her whole life to support her family, and that’s the most memorable thing that anybody could do,” Gehrke’s grandson, Frankie Zills, told the outlet.

Tucson police officers and firefighters responded at approximately 10 p.m. July 24 to reports of a fight at the apartment complex at 1201 N. Alvernon Way.

Officers discovered Gehrke and a man suffering from injuries, police said. Gehrke was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition while the unidentified attacker fled before officers arrived.

Investigators learned that Gehrke and the man had been on an apartment patio when Jefferson allegedly approached the area, became confrontational and assaulted both of them, according to police.

The male victim was allegedly punched first and suffered serious injuries after falling to the ground.

Detectives identified Jefferson during the initial investigation and began searching for him, police said. Members of the Tucson Police Department’s community engagement squad located him on July 28 near Speedway Boulevard and Country Club Road and arrested him.

Jefferson had previously served time in an Arizona prison for aggravated assault, according to state records.

He was sentenced to five years in 2021 and released in October 2024. He also had an earlier burglary conviction.

“Susan was a beacon of light to everyone who knew her,” the family said. “She spent her entire life working tirelessly, pouring her heart into her family, and putting others before herself. She was just on the brink of retiring — a milestone she had worked so hard for and was so excited to finally enjoy.”

Her family said that she beat cancer two times.

“Words cannot describe the pain and shock our family is navigating right now. After beating cancer twice, her life was taken by a violent individual with prior criminal charges of violence,” family said.

Detectives with the department’s Robbery Assault Unit and Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate.

Dodgers Surprise with Major Trade Acquisition of Royals’ Star Pitcher Kris Bubic

0

In an unexpected move on trade deadline day, the Dodgers have made headlines with a significant deal.

Teaming up with the Kansas City Royals, the Dodgers have secured left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic, a former All-Star, as confirmed by multiple insiders familiar with the transaction. Bubic’s arrival is set to bolster the Dodgers’ pitching lineup.

Heading to Kansas City in exchange is Carlos Duran, a promising right-hander currently pitching in triple-A.

Currently, Bubic, aged 28, finds himself on the 60-day injured list due to an elbow issue. Despite this setback, he has proven to be an effective swingman throughout his seven-year MLB career.

Boasting a career record of 126 appearances, including 89 starts, Bubic holds a 4.14 ERA. His past performances are impressive, particularly in 2024 when he posted a stellar 2.67 ERA across 27 relief outings, and in 2025, when his exceptional 2.55 ERA in 20 starts earned him an All-Star nod with an 8-7 win-loss record.

ESPN first reported news of the trade.

Satanist ‘Dracula’ Detained After Leaving Lamb Corpses at Churches in Shocking Anti-Christian Campaign

0

A man claiming vampire-like tendencies, who orchestrated a sinister campaign against Christian communities by depositing animal heads and slaughtered lambs at churches, has now been admitted to a hospital.

Benjamin Lewis, aged 48, instilled fear among church members in the area, as the discovery of decaying animal carcasses and inverted crosses during church services discouraged attendance.

At a previous court appearance, Lewis identified himself as ‘Count Dracula’. His obsession with the mythical creature led him to drink animal blood under the belief that it would grant eternal life.

Over the past year, Lewis engaged in a spree of theft and killing of farm animals, leaving their remains at numerous churches across New Forest, Hampshire, with 13 such incidents recorded.

One particularly notable incident during the Easter period saw Lewis leaving a tarot card beside a deceased deer’s head at a church, marking it as his unmistakable calling card.

He also left a deer’s head on the gate outside of vulnerable adult accommodation in which he had previously stayed.

Officers investigating the spate of attacks noticed the animals were being left on significant dates in the Satanic calendar and stationed officers outside different churches on specific dates in a bid to snare him.

He was eventually caught out by CCTV and forensic evidence – after his DNA was found on one of the lambs.

Items including sketches of vampires and dead sheep, newspaper cuttings relating to death, satanic symbols and upside-down crosses were found in his house.

Lewis, of Totton, Southampton, pleaded guilty to five counts of religiously aggravated harassment and two counts of theft of lambs between February and August 2025 at a hearing last year.

He was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Monday when he was detained under the Mental Health Act.

Laura Deuxberry, prosecuting, said: ‘The church is supposed to be a place of sanctuary and this made people fear going to their sanctuary.’

The court heard Lewis had a ‘fascination with vampires’ from a young age and left a dead frog on a cross outside a church when he was 13.

In 2003 he was jailed for a campaign of harassment against a village vicar.

The most recent offences occurred between February and July last year but police believe he may have been targeting churches for years beforehand.

PC Jessica Surman, of Hampshire Constabulary, said it was ‘the most bizarre’ she has ever worked on.

Lewis believes he is a ‘reincarnated vampire’, she said.

‘He believes [drinking blood] will prolong his life and if he drinks it enough he won’t go to hell, he won’t die and he will become a vampire,’ she said.

The court heard Lewis first struck in February 2025 when he left a deer’s head along with an inverted wooden cross at St Theresa’s Church in Totton.

This was followed by a lamb being placed on a light fixture below a statue of Mary along with another inverted cross.

Ms Deuxberry said that Canon Simon Treloar had initially attempted to make light of the first incident by telling the media that he would have ‘preferred sausages’ and later sausages were left at the church as well as the animal bodies.

The prosecutor added that children had seen the dead lamb and been ‘very distressed as a result’.

Also in February 2025, the Rev David Potterton at Christ’s Church Emery Down found the head of the deer in the pulpit and an inverted cross.

Lewis also targeted St Peter’s Church in Bramshaw, where a dead lamb was placed on a flagpole with a tarot card next to it and a deer’s head ‘crawling with maggots’ was placed on a pew on a later date.

At Christ’s Church in Colbury, a lamb was placed on a tree stump with an inverted stone cross next to it.

In April last year, a deer’s head with an inverted cross was put on the gates of the Anchor House mental health facility in Totton where Lewis had previously been treated.

In a separate incident in April 2025, five-to-10 day-old lambs, costing £180 each, belonging to Sarah Harrison from Parsonage Farm in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, had their necks cut and then hung from a flagpole at St Peter’s Church.

Miss Harrison, a local farmer whose family had lived in the New Forest for generations, said she considered moving away because she thought ‘if he can do that then what else can he do?’

She said that the way the lambs’ necks were cut ‘like one would in commercial markets’.

Ms Deuxberry said there had been a number of previous incidents dating back five years that the prosecution were not pursuing.

He was arrested in May 2025 when deer blood was found in the boot of his car, with mixed animal blood in the vehicle.

When his home was searched by police, officers found satanic symbols and ritual notes as well as sketches of vampires and ‘concerning books about vampires and how best to kill humans’.

A suitcase containing inverted crosses and images of ‘people cutting and sucking blood from each other’ was also found.

He was arrested for a second time in September 2025 when officers found sketches of vampires and dead sheep as well as newspaper cuttings relating to death, satanic symbols and upside down crosses.

Officers also found handwritten notes saying ‘it’s fun to be a vampire’ and a series of books about cults, serial killers, and ‘The Real Twilight’

Dr Gauruv Malhan, a consultant forensic psychiatrist, told the court that he believed Lewis had autism, mixed personality disorder, OCD, a possible mild learning disorder and had ‘fantastical thinking patterns’.

He said that during an assessment Lewis had tried to assault him and had to be restrained and secluded.

He highlighted Lewis’s history of self harm and said that there was a ‘risk of escalation from harming animals to harming humans as well’.

Sentencing Lewis, who appeared by videolink wearing a black suit, Judge William Mousley KC said: ‘You killed, maimed and disfigured animals and displayed parts of their bodies.

‘What is clear is that these offences taken together would justify a substantial period of imprisonment.

‘That is clear before taking into consideration his previous convictions which, although a long time ago, demonstrate worrying similar behaviour.’

Lewis will be subject to the hospital order to receive treatment until a further ruling by either a mental health tribunal or the Secretary of State.

Following sentencing, Lewis said: ‘I would just like to apologise to the victims because they said they worried about me. I don’t want people to worry about me.

‘I want to say to the police that I don’t have any grudges towards you either.’

Lewis was jailed for a year in 2003 for a campaign of harassment against a village vicar.

He and two others made the vicar’s life a misery – driving ‘a wedge of fear’ into his and his family’s life by howling like dogs and plaguing them with phone calls.

Lewis and one of his friends even drank each other’s blood, the court heard.

The trio waited until the dead of night before running round the churchyard ringing bells and launching fireworks at the vicar’s home.

They also sent taxis from a cab firm called Better The Devil You Know to the Rev Chris Rowberry’s vicarage and placed pornographic pictures on the noticeboard at his church – the tenth oldest in England.

While Mr Rowberry was chatting to parishioners outside St Mary the Virgin, in Eling, near Southampton, Hampshire, the three would drive past, howl and shout abuse.

Lewis was found guilty of religiously aggravated harassment following a trial.

It was the first time in this country anyone has been accused of committing the crime against a Christian.

Speaking after sentencing, New Forest District Commander, Chief Inspector Scott Johnson, said: ‘The sentence in this case, handed down today, reflects many months of complex, investigative work by Neighbourhood Policing Teams and investigation teams in Hampshire & Isle of Wight Police.

‘This crime series had a particular impact on the victims from the farming community and churchgoers, who were extremely distressed by the crimes under investigation.

‘I hope this sentence goes some way to providing some closure for those victims and provides the best opportunity for rehabilitation for the offender and to keep our communities and animals safe moving forward.’

Tragic Loss: In-N-Out Worker, 23, Dies in Idaho Incident

0

The tragic shooting at a newly established In-N-Out in Idaho has claimed the life of a young employee, whose identity has been revealed by those closest to her.

Ashley Garibay, a 23-year-old from Stockton, California, was the In-N-Out worker fatally shot at the Twin Falls branch over the weekend, as confirmed by her family and friends.

“Oh my beautiful friend, my heart breaks seeing your pictures knowing they’ll just be memories now,” shared Alissa Juarez, a friend of Garibay, in a heartfelt Facebook tribute.

In the wake of the incident, Garibay’s mother, Sabrina Garibay, updated her profile photo to one featuring her daughter, with loved ones offering their heartfelt sympathies in response.

“Ashley, you were such a beautiful soul. You will be dearly missed. I remember when you were just a little one coming to stay with me so your mom could go to work,” reminisced a family member.

‘You have become a beautiful young lady. Rest in paradise.’

In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder, who did not name the employee, previously described Garibay as a ‘beautiful’ associate who was working at the drive-thru.

‘My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I’ve shed,’ Snyder said in a statement shared on Sunday.

‘We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight. She was taking care of our most important asset – our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own.’

‘He shot both on our property and off, and ended his life shortly after he took the precious lives of our Associate and Customers, innocent people who never saw it coming,’ Snyder added.

The shooter, Chad Williams, 24, fired an AK-style rifle at several innocent customers and employees at the restaurant before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Garibay, a customer named Christopher Claunch and an unidentified man were killed in the shooting, and seven people were injured.

Authorities said Sunday that two of the injured were treated at a hospital and released, three were listed as stable, and two were in critical condition.

Claunch, who worked at Renaissance Ranch Recovery Center, died from his injuries after gunshots rang out around 2.30pm on Saturday, his sister, Kimberly Castaneda, told The New York Times.

Castaneda explained that Claunch, 59, had been sober for two years after struggling with alcoholism.

She reminisced about spending time with him during the Fourth of July holiday and how she enjoyed his carefree attitude.

‘He was always being a goofball.’

He also struggled with the loss of his first wife, who died in a car crash three months after they got married, she said.

He was from California but lived in Idaho for about three decades, Castaneda said.

So when an In-N-Out opened up in the state, he was thrilled to stop by and get the Pacific Coast classic take-out, she shared.

Master These 3 Bed Positions After 60 to Prove You Have a Top-Tier Core

0

Uncover how your mattress could become an unconventional tool for evaluating your core strength after the age of 60.

>

Core strength often gets underrated when discussing healthy aging, yet its importance skyrockets beyond 60. Enhancing your core doesn’t hinge on sporting a chiseled midsection or a slim waist; instead, it’s pivotal for maintaining your balance, poise, and stability as you grow older. Whether reaching for something, bending over, or quickly regaining balance from a slip, a strong core is your ally.

Traditional methods for gauging core strength, like full sit-ups or planks on a hard floor, can be intimidating, especially for those with stiff hips, tender knees, or who are simply floor-averse. However, there’s promising news—testing your core requires neither a gym membership nor a yoga studio. In fact, you can evaluate your core capabilities from the comfort of your own bed, with expert guidance at hand.

Enter James Bickerstaff, CPT, a seasoned personal trainer affiliated with OriGym. He shared with us his top three mattress-friendly holds designed to precisely assess your core’s resilience post-60. These exercises mirror their floor-based counterparts by targeting critical muscles like the abs, obliques, lower back, and hip stabilizers, but utilize the comfort of a mattress instead of a hard floor.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stresses that core and lower body strength are pivotal in mitigating fall risks in seniors. Thus, your ability to sustain these positions offers insights far beyond mere abdominal fitness—it underscores the core stability crucial for safe mobility.

Forearm Plank

Bickerstaff says the forearm plank is the gold standard of core exercises. “The forearm plank is one of the best all-round tests of core strength because it challenges your abdominals, lower back, shoulders, and glutes simultaneously,” says Bickerstaff. “Being able to hold a solid plank after age 60 demonstrates excellent trunk stability and muscular endurance.”

How to do it:

  1. Lie face down on a bed and place your forearms on the mattress with your elbows directly beneath your shoulders.
  2. Step your feet back until your body forms a straight line from head to toe.
  3. Flex your core and squeeze your glutes.
  4. Avoid letting your hips sag or lift too high.
  5. Breathe steadily through your nose during the hold.
  6. Hold for 20 to 45 seconds.

Side Plank

This plank variation shifts the challenge to the muscles most core workouts skip entirely: the obliques, or side abs. “The side plank targets muscles that are often overlooked, particularly your obliques and hip stabilizers,” explains Bickerstaff. “These muscles play a key role in balance and reducing the likelihood of falls, making this one of the most valuable exercises for healthy aging.”

How to do it:

  1. Lie on one side with your forearm resting on the bed directly beneath your shoulder.
  2. Stack your legs and lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from shoulders to ankles.
  3. Hold the position while keeping your hips lifted.
  4. Keep your head aligned with your spine.
  5. Repeat on the opposite side.
  6. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds per side.

Dead Bug Hold

This third and final position adds a coordination element that mirrors how your core actually functions in daily life. “This hold teaches your core to stabilize while your arms and legs move,” says Bickerstaff. “This closely mimics common daily activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and carrying shopping, making it highly functional as well as effective.”

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent 90 degrees above your hips and your arms extended toward the ceiling.
  2. Slowly extend one leg and the opposite arm.
  3. Keep your lower back gently pressed into the mattress.
  4. Alternate sides.
  5. Hold each side for 10 to 20 seconds. Aim for 5 to 8 reps per side.

The Bottom Line

If you can complete all three of these holds with proper form and without your hips sagging or shaking uncontrollably, that’s a strong sign your core is in excellent shape for your age. If you struggled, that’s also useful information. Now you can work these holds into your routine two to three times a week, starting with shorter holds and building up gradually by trying to add 5 seconds every week. While a softer surface like your bed makes these holds more forgiving on your joints, the strength and stability you build will carry over to real life.
