In a move reminiscent of historical investigative strategies, authorities recently unveiled two alleged ransom notes related to Guthrie’s case, echoing the tactics that once led to the capture of the infamous Unabomber. This decision, six months from the event, is a strategic bid to unearth new tips and perhaps propel the investigation forward in Tucson, Arizona, where Guthrie was last seen.

“It’s a rare decision for law enforcement to make an offender’s own words public,” explained Lisa Miller, a retired investigator formerly with the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.

Though Miller isn’t involved in the Guthrie case, she has been monitoring it attentively for half a year, intrigued by its developments and the law enforcement strategies at play.

“The last major precedent: 1995, the Unabomber manifesto…published on the FBI’s recommendation, betting someone would recognize the writing,” she noted in an X post over the weekend. “It worked.”

David Kaczynski and his wife, Linda Patrik, recognized Ted Kaczynski’s writing style and alerted authorities. Ted Kaczynski was arrested in 1996 and pleaded guilty two years later to avoid the death penalty. He spent most of his time behind bars at the ADX Florence Supermax prison in Colorado.

According to FBI records, Kaczynski sent a 35,000-word manifesto outlining his motives “and views of the ills of modern society.”

Then-FBI Director Louis Freeh and then-U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno signed off on a plan to publish the document. After it ran in national news, the task force investigating that case received thousands of tips — including a note from David Kaczynski, who included other writing samples that linguistic analysts used to compare against the manifesto.

On Friday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department released two notes that have been deemed potentially credible in the abduction of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie.

Authorities said the two notes share a “unique linguistic style” and are believed to have been sent by the same person.

“There are a number of pieces of information in these notes that just might jar someone to say, ‘You know, I’ve heard that,’ or the wording, the style of the writing,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a video posted to X Saturday. “We hope that by releasing the actual note, we’ll get some response from the community.”

They are much shorter than the Unabomber’s lengthy essay and less useful for linguistics analysis, Miller said, but they still contain clues and consistent phrasing that could stand out to someone who knows the writer.

The clearest habit appears to be the sender’s tendency to write a statement and then immediately follow it with a comma-spliced reinforcing statement, she said.

For example, she gave the following lines:

“You will not be able to contact me from here on out, there will be no negotiation.”

“We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention.”

Miller said she doesn’t believe the notes were written by artificial intelligence. The notes include “uneven grammar and syntax,” emotionally charged repetitions and awkward phrasing, she said.

Authorities are looking for help identifying the masked intruder who appeared on Guthrie’s Nest doorbell camera on the night of her abduction as well as the sender of the notes.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to dial 1-800-CALL-FBI or, to remain anonymous, call 520-88-CRIME.

The sum of all rewards in the case is over $1.2 million. The money remained unclaimed as of Friday, a day before the six-month mark since Guthrie’s kidnapping.

Geno Segers, former star of the Broadway show “Hadestown,” has exited the production following a controversy surrounding his previous transphobic comments.

In an announcement to Page Six, the show’s producers confirmed, “Hadestown and Geno Segers have come to a mutual agreement that Mr. Segers will not be joining the Broadway production.”

They assured fans that plans for replacement casting are underway and updates will be shared soon.

Page Six has contacted Segers’ representative for additional comments on the matter.

Initially, the 49-year-old actor was slated to portray Hades in the theater’s upcoming season, set to debut at the Walter Kerr Theatre on September 1.

However, last week, several of his videos and posts about the transgender community resurfaced on the internet, in which he voiced his opposition to trans women participating in women’s sports and mocked pronoun usage, per the theater site OnStageBlog.

Following the backlash, he made his Instagram account private and took down several videos from his YouTube channel.

Amber Iman, who was cast as Segers’ onstage wife, Persephone, celebrated the production decision with a post on her Instagram Stories Sunday.

“I wasn’t posting, But I was not quiet,” Iman wrote alongside an article about Segers’ exit from the Tony-winning show.

“Sometimes you gotta get off social media and demand answers. Cuz I’ll be damned if my ‘husband’ is a clown and we’re not at the circus. ONWARD,” she added.

The new cast of “Hadestown” — which includes Iman as Persephone, Kayko as Orpheus, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Eurydice and Norbert Leo Butz as Hermes — is set to remain the same.

The show has been on Broadway since 2019 and opened on London’s West End in 2024.

Although “Hadestown” would have been Segers’s Broadway debut, he famously played Mufasa in Disney’s Australian production of “The Lion King” in 2006.

He’s better known for his television career, having appeared in episodes of “White Collar,” “Teen Wolf,” “Castle,” Banshee,” “Elementary” and “Yellowstone.”

While Prince Louis might hold a special place in the heart of the Duchess of Edinburgh, it appears that Princess Charlotte shares an unmistakable fondness for the Duke of Edinburgh. Their affectionate rapport was clearly on display during the weekend’s Commonwealth Games.

On Saturday, the Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out for the penultimate day of the ‘Friendly Games’ in Scotland, bringing their trio of children along, including the future heir, 13-year-old Prince George.

As the day unfolded, the Wales family was joined by Prince Edward and Sophie at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome to witness the cycling events. Images captured the King’s younger brother, aged 62, engaged in a deep conversation with the 11-year-old Charlotte.

Charlotte sat, seemingly captivated, as she rested her face on her hand, soaking in every word her great-uncle shared.

Throughout the event, Edward frequently turned back to chat with Charlotte, possibly explaining details of the races or offering insights into the significance of the Games.

At one point, he also handed Charlotte’s younger brother what appeared to be a sweet, as Louis, who was sat next to his older brother Prince George, happily accepted the snack during a packed day of engagements in Glasgow.

Observers noted Charlotte’s ‘attentive’ expression – and meanwhile, ‘fun aunt’ Sophie gave the young royal a warm hug after embracing the Princess in a heartfelt family moment, before turning her attention to Louis.

Sophie and Louis waved and smiled at each other, after a royal expert noted that the Duke and Duchess are setting the ‘perfect example’ for him and Princess Charlotte on how to be a successful ‘spare’.

Sophie and Edward, who received their new titles in March 2023, have ramped up their engagements in the wake of King Charles’s cancer diagnosis, with the BBC’s former royal correspondent Jennie Bond noting ‘they are very much up to the task’. 

‘They are also serving as excellent role models to their great-nephews and niece – showing that you can be a “spare” or even a “spare to the spare” and make a real success of working as a valued member of the Royal Family.’

Prince Harry famously named his January 2023 memoir ‘Spare’ and released a series of bombshells on the Royal Family.

Speaking to The Telegraph shortly after the book was published, Prince Harry revealed that he had voiced his concern about the future of other ‘spares’ in the family.

The Duke of Sussex said he hopes his efforts to highlight his own pain will pay dividends for the next generation.

He explained: ”Though William and I have talked about it once or twice, and he has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility, I still feel a responsibility. 

‘Out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare. And that hurts, that worries me.’

Ms Bond also previously suggested Kate and William have leaned on the Duke and Duchess during challenging times for the Royal Family, including ‘Megxit’ and the death of the late Queen on September 8, 2022. 

In 2023, the royal commentator noted: ‘Sometimes it seems strange to realise that these are two different generations of royals as they seem much closer.’

Ms Bond said the couples have formed a ‘tight bond’, adding: ‘Sophie, in particular, is a wonderfully empathetic woman. The late Queen regarded her as another daughter.’

The former PR executive acts as a ‘brilliant bridge’ between generations, as Sophie has frequently been pictured on the Buckingham Palace balcony sharing tender moments with Princess Charlotte, Prince George and Prince Louis.

The royal expert also noted that Prince Edward and Sophie, who were granted their new titles in March 2023, are ‘setting the perfect example’ for Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on how to be a successful ‘spare’. 

While Harry and William, who have reportedly not spoken since the Queen’s funeral in 2022, remain estranged, it appears both the future King and his wife have formed a close friendship with Edward and Sophie. 

While Kate and the Duchess have come a long way from their tentative mentor/mentee relationship, Prince William also gets on famously well with his uncle’s wife. 

One of the defining images of Sophie and Kate’s friendship was taken during the Remembrance Sunday service in 2024 in one of the Princess’s first appearances since completing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

The pair were standing together on the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, when Kate seemingly hinted to her husband’s aunt that she was feeling overwhelmed. 

After reassuring the Princess, the Duchess of Edinburgh placed a supportive, ‘maternal’ hand on the future Queen’s back as they walked back inside the building, as the photo of the heartfelt gesture moved royal fans.

Over the years, Sophie’s fun friendship with Kate and William’s children has become widely known – with the Duchess appearing to have a soft spot for little Louis. 

At the King’s Birthday Parade last year, Sophie and the prince – whose cheeky antics have made him the star of the Buckingham Palace balcony – were pictured pulling funny faces at each other after the Red Arrows flypast. 

Other images of them together in the Major General’s office at Buckingham Palace showed them deep in conversation, with the Duchess giving the youngest Wales child her full attention. 

Fans declared ‘Sophie puts the GREAT in Great Auntie’ at the time, with one person noting how ‘protective’ she is of all three children. 

Sophie is known for her down-to-earth nature and was viewed by the Queen as The Firm’s safest pair of hands.

She was welcomed into the Royal Family after tying the knot to Edward back in 1999, and the couple have since welcomed two children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.
