A quaint town in Colorado, named Hartman, has officially been declared abandoned by the state. This decision follows the resignation of the town’s last serving officials, which has left its already struggling water system a “health hazard” for its inhabitants, as stated by state representatives.

The Colorado Secretary of State’s office announced this conclusion earlier this week. The decision arose after a public hearing uncovered that Hartman lacked a Board of Trustees or Town Clerk, could not conduct a town election, and possessed vital infrastructure necessary for water treatment and delivery to the residents.

Deputy Secretary of State Andrew Kline emphasized in the abandonment order that failing to declare Hartman abandoned would perpetuate its residents’ legal uncertainty amid a health crisis. Without authority to manage town affairs, hold elections, or repair the water system, residents would continue to face risks. “Abandonment is the solitary legal remedy within Colorado statutes that enables residents to access clean water,” Kline explained.

Located in southeast Colorado and home to just 30 people, Hartman found itself in turmoil when its three serving trustees stepped down in January. Their resignation followed a physical altercation amongst four women that occurred after a board of trustees meeting, as reported by The Denver Post.

“Our safety was more important than having a government,” Pam Packer, one of the trustees who resigned, told the newspaper, which also reported that the mayor resigned in October and that Hartman previously was grappling with embezzlement allegations and restraining orders.

Kline said in the abandonment order that in mid-June, “Ms. Jessie Simmons, a self-attested resident, landowner, and elector of the Town of Hartman, submitted a written application to the Secretary of State for determination of abandonment for the Town of Hartman alleging that the town does not have a board of trustees or town clerk, is unable to hold an election, and owns and operates water infrastructure needed to treat and deliver water to residents.”

“Ms. Simmons further asserted that as of time of her application, the Town of Hartman had lacked chlorine in its water for over one month and the water was not potable and ‘smells horrible.’ She stated that the Town of Hartman had been under an order to boil water for months,” he wrote.

At a hearing on July 13 , Eric Bergman, the director of the Division of Local Government for the Department of Local Affairs, “testified that he has regional managers throughout the state, and one in Southeast Colorado that has worked extensively with the Town of Hartman for the last 5 or 6 years,” according to Kline.

“Mr. Bergman also testified that since 2022, DOLA representatives have been in the Town of Hartman over 30 times helping with elections, turnover, recalls, resignations, budgets, audits, grant administration, and training of new officials. In January of 2026, DOLA received letters of resignation from each of the town’s then-Trustees. Since the resignation of these elected officials, no government officials or government remain in the Town of Hartman,” the order stated .

“There are no government officials in the Town of Hartman who are authorized to approve contracts, spend funds, appoint replacements, certify elections, or make decisions regarding the Town of Hartman’s water system. Mr. Bergman testified there is also no clerk or governing body to call, conduct, or certify a municipal election,” it continued.

“According to Mr. Bergman, the Town of Hartman is facing a public health threat. Mr. Bergman testified that the Town of Hartman has been on a boil advisory since last October 2025, and the water currently needs testing and chlorine. The water tank is compromised and needs repair or replacement,” Kline also wrote in the order. “There is no one operating the water system at this time. DOLA, along with the Colorado Department of Health and Environment had previously provided grants for more than $1 million to the Town of Hartman to work on the water system. Those funds were reimbursement-based. However, without government officials, the Town is unable to enter any contracts that would enable it to access the grant funds.”

The office of Colorado’s Secretary of State said that following the abandonment order, ” All existing streets, avenues, and alleys previously located within the abandoned town that are not owned by a third party shall be vested in in the Board of County Commissioners of Prowers County,” and that “Ownership of water infrastructure critical for the treatment or delivery of water to residents shall be vested in Prowers County, which shall transfer said infrastructure to an entity whose primary purpose is water treatment or delivery.”

Houston, it seems there’s a complication.

Delta Air Lines has officially cut nonstop flights from three major U.S. cities, following a suspension that began in June due to surging fuel prices and rising operational costs. Initially intended as a temporary cessation, the airline confirmed to The Points Guy this Monday that these routes are now permanently removed as part of their standard network strategy.

The following nonstop flights have been discontinued, affecting travelers:

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will contact affected customers directly to discuss alternative travel options,” a spokesperson told The Points Guy.

Just note, that the Atlanta-based airline still has nonstop flights to Houston, Memphis and St. Louis from nearby airport, LaGuardia (LGA). If you’re a flier impacted by the latest switch, reach out to Delta customer service and they will be able to rebook flights through LaGuardia or arrange an alternative travel plan if they haven’t already done so.

For New Yorkers scheduled to fly from JFK, there are three simple steps you can take. First, check your itinerary in the Fly Delta app or you can log into your account online as automatic updates or notifications will be found there. Next, you can check out what your rebooking options are. For those whose flights were canceled to JFK, a reroute out of LGA or a full refund will likely be available.

Lastly, it’s best to check what your ground transportation, parking or connections are like since LGA differs from JFK depending on where you are starting.

But, it’s not all grey skies, there’s an upside for those traveling to Florida, as Delta has introduced a new nonstop flight from one of its fastest-growing cities on the East Coast. Starting November 21, the carrier will offer nonstop trips from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) near Fort Myers.

According to The Points Guy, the airline will use a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet on the new route, giving Delta its newest destination from RDU just days ahead of the Thanksgiving airport frenzy.

Recently, Delta rolled out an “industry-standard” change by making premium seating more affordable. The airline rolled out its “Basic fares” for first class and business class — an economy seat with a few extra perks. These newer benefits are typically given to only Delta First, Delta Premium Select and Delta One flyers.

The new switch could save upwards of $200 compared to a regular first-class ticket. Similar to Delta Main and Delta Comfort, the Basic tier now gives customers access to premium extras like Zone 1 boarding,
180-degree lie-flat seats with privacy suites onboard select aircraft to name just a few.

“This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products,” said Joe Esposito, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, in a press release. 

PASSAIC, N.J. (WPVI) — The pursuit to find a 10-year-old girl missing in the waters of the Passaic River rekindled early Friday morning. This development follows an incident earlier in the week where she, along with two other children, entered the river and only the latter managed to escape safely.

Search teams, equipped with boats, are expected to renew their efforts on the river starting at 6 a.m. Friday. The search efforts on Thursday ended without success.

For several days, emergency crews have meticulously combed the river relying on a range of resources including helicopters, divers, and sonar technology. Search operations primarily concentrate on the Rutherford stretch of the river, with teams adjusting their positioning to align with the river’s current.

Passaic Mayor Hector Lora announced the search effort has transitioned into a recovery mission, emphasizing the gravity of the situation at hand.

The girl was with a 10-year-old boy whose body was recovered Wednesday night. Officials said the boy helped save his 11-year-old sister, who managed to get out of the water on her own and is recovering with family.

Investigators believe the three children were playing near a boat ramp along the riverbank when they entered the water.

A man nearby jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue them, but officials said the current was too strong and the water was unusually high following heavy rainfall earlier in the week, preventing him from reaching the children.

Family members continue to hold onto hope that the missing girl will be found.

“I actually just saw her two weeks ago at a family gathering,” the girl’s aunt, Chelsea, said. “She’s a beautiful little girl. Very energetic. Very creative. And she’s just a great girl.”

“We’re praying that they find her,” she added.

Authorities say search efforts will continue Friday as crews adjust their operations based on changing river conditions.

Authorities have pinpointed a ‘person of interest’ in the unsettling murder of a man from the Midwest, who was shot while camping in Puerto Rico. The incident unfolded just hours after the victim reported hearing an unusual ‘howling’ noise near his campsite.

The victim, 35-year-old Tyler Wilkin of Ohio, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head at Playa La Selva, near Luquillo on Puerto Rico’s northern coast, on July 10.

In his last communication, Wilkin messaged a friend about hearing a man ‘howling’ outside his tent for consecutive nights. This detail, shared by his girlfriend Iva Mo, sheds light on the eerie events leading to his death, as reported by First Alert 6.

Nearly three weeks after the tragic event, the Puerto Rico Police Department (PRPD) has made significant strides by identifying someone crucial to the investigation.

“We do have a person of interest,” Police Superintendent Joseph Gonzalez informed El Nuevo Dia on Thursday.

‘We know there aren’t many people in the area. It’s a bit complicated in terms of investigative leads. We can say that there are some leads.’

Investigators have also said they are working with the FBI to find the suspect who shot Wilkin in what they described as an ‘execution-style’ killing. 

‘At this time, the San Juan Field Office (SJFO) is providing technical assistance to PRPD, but this case remains an ongoing local investigative matter,’ an FBI spokesperson said in a statement to the Daily Mail.

‘We will defer to PRPD for any statements or comments but encourage the local public to call in tips and information.’

Wilkin first told his friend about hearing creepy noises near his tent in the early hours of July 9, according to his girlfriend.  

Mo said he sent a text message saying he could hear this eerie noise along with what sounded like fireworks.

The following night he messaged the same friend just before 2am, saying, ‘The howler is back,’ before adding, ‘Oh, this guy is getting rowdy lol,’ Mo said. Wilkin was found dead hours later, about five minutes from the campsite.

Wilkin moved to Puerto Rico in January 2024, where Mo said he quickly became ‘not just the glue of the community, but also the center of it.’

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, swim, hike and camp.

Mo said that in the days before his death Wilkin had organized a group trip to a camping location popular with families where he had stayed before and always felt safe.

She dropped him off at the spot in Playa la Selva on July 8 so he could reserve the site ahead of the weekend.

Mo said Wilkin was kitted out with all of his gear, including a pocket knife and a machete.

They said goodbye and parted ways. This would be the last time she saw him. 

The family has launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for a private investigator.

‘We lost Tyler far too soon, and the grief left behind is impossible to put into words,’ the page reads.

‘As his family and friends continue to navigate this heartbreaking loss, we are determined to do everything we can to seek the truth and ensure that Tyler receives the justice he deserves.’
