Caitlin Clark NBA 2K27 Cover Sparks Widespread Controversy

0

Indiana Fever’s standout player, Caitlin Clark, is set to grace the cover of NBA 2K27 Deluxe Edition, yet the image chosen has sparked controversy among fans online.

While the WNBA star’s global cover appearance is celebrated, the portrayal has left fans puzzled. Many argue that the image resembles CGI or artificial intelligence more than Clark herself.

Sports journalist Darren Rovell commented, “It’s odd to use another face on her. This isn’t something done with NBA cover athletes.”

Some fans voiced their frustrations even more candidly.

The New York Post highlighted that Angel Reese appeared on the cover of the WNBA-centric 2K26 edition last year.

“Several other star WNBA players, including Diana Taurasi, A’ja Wilson, and Sabrina Ionescu, have been on the WNBA cover,” it added.

“Clark joins Spurs star Victor Wembanyama and ex-Bulls star Derrick Rose as the featured cover athletes for the 2K27 edition. Wembanyama is on the standard edition, while the ultra version depicts Rose during his time with the Bulls,” it added.  “2K did not announce a WNBA edition, leading fans to believe that the company is foregoing that edition to honor Clark with the more mainstream NBA deluxe edition.”

Woman Wins $4K Recovery After Icelandair Scam Shocker

0

In River Forest, Illinois, a local woman experienced a financial loss amounting to several thousand dollars after she attempted to modify her airline reservation. Instead of reaching the intended service, she was allegedly funneled to a fraudulent hotline, shedding light on growing travel scam issues involving fake airline and hotel call centers.

These deceptive actors, masquerading as legitimate travel agents, lure unsuspecting customers by proposing seemingly advantageous deals or assistance, with the real intention of extracting their payment details.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Joanna Moroz Domino recounted that her difficulties began while she tried to amend an Icelandair flight itinerary from Chicago to the UK. Due to the flight ticket’s nonrefundable status, she couldn’t execute the change through the regular airline procedures.

Following an official notification email from the airline, Moroz Domino was directed via a link to engage in a live chat to discuss her options.

She described the process of clicking the link which resulted in connecting her with someone posing as a live chat agent.

“So the guy on live chat says this person will be able to help you; you are a frequent flier. Sorry about this experience,” Moroz Domino said.

She said she believes someone in what she described as a legitimate Icelandair chat provided the fraudulent phone number.

Icelandair, however, said it has not found evidence that the number “…originated from Icelandair systems or official communication channels.”

Moroz Domino described the person she spoke with as “very helpful, very apologetic, saying he’ll be able to help me.”

She said the individual claimed he could “override” the nonrefundable tickets by logging into her account, upgrading her to a more expensive “flexible” ticket and then canceling the reservation.

Moroz Domino said the arrangement was actually a scam that resulted in her paying approximately $4,000 more for the purported flexible tickets.

“The scammer logged into my account; he was the one who canceled it,” she said.

Moroz Domino said she was never refunded the approximately $2,000 she had already paid Icelandair for the nonrefundable tickets; although she did receive a refund for taxes.

A voicemail from the fake airline support stated, “This is Ethan calling from Icelandair support desk … that is just part of the taxes I was calling explain to you.”

Icelandair said that all “…subsequent communications regarding a purported refund were conducted directly with this third party…” and not with the airline.

The company added that it takes incidents involving brand impersonation and fraud seriously and “…encourages customers to verify that they are communicating through contact information published on Icelandair’s official website.”

After ABC7 Chicago’s I-Team contacted American Express, Moroz Domino said the credit card company decided to refund nearly $4,000 she paid in the fraudulent transaction.

“Very happy and appreciative for AmEx going the extra mile so thank you so much,” she said.

Moroz Domino said American Express initially told her she had waited beyond the 60-day reporting window. However, she said the alleged scammer had delayed the process by telling her that ticket refunds would take time.

“After you got involved, they called us to discuss what happened again…” she said.

In a statement, American Express said: “We take these matters seriously and review all fraud and dispute claims carefully. We encourage customers to verify payment instructions through a trusted source before sending funds or sharing account information.”

ABC7 Chicago called the number Moroz Domino used when trying to rebook her flight.

The person who answered identified the operation as an airline reservation desk, but didn’t answer questions.

Cybersecurity experts warn that fake travel call center numbers posing as airlines and hotels can appear in online search results.

“Eventually you pay the scammers on top of what you already paid,” said Nati Tal of Guardio.

Moroz Domino said she hopes others can learn from her experience.

“I think is horrendous. And I want other people to know that you can’t trust whoever you’re talking to,” she said.

Experts also warn that fake travel representatives may send phishing messages claiming there is a problem with travel plans in an attempt to obtain personal or payment information.

Consumers are encouraged to contact airlines and hotels directly and obtain phone numbers through official apps or by calling the number listed on the back of an airline or hotel credit card.

Victoria Beckham: The Real Story Behind the Spice Girls’ Reunion Tour Dilemma Revealed by Former Manager

Three decades have swiftly passed since the Spice Girls catapulted into global fame with their iconic anthem, “Wannabe.”

Initially debuting in the UK during July 1996 and hitting U.S. airwaves by September, the song paved the way for their inaugural album, Spice. This breakthrough album catapulted Mel C (Sporty Spice), Mel B (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) into international stardom.

In a dramatic turn of events, Geri Halliwell exited the group in 1998. The quartet soldiered on, performing live for two additional years until they chose to pursue individual ventures. After announcing a period of pause in 2000, the iconic group officially parted ways in February 2001.

Despite their initial separation, the Spice Girls have come together for multiple nostalgic endeavors. These include the 2007–2008 Return Tour, their electrifying performance at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony, and a 2019 Spiceworld UK tour. Notably, Victoria Beckham abstained from the latest tour due to her demanding fashion industry commitments, casting doubt on the likelihood of a 30th-anniversary tour.

When speaking about the milestone anniversary in March, Mel C. told an Australian radio program, “It’s a big one. And no, there is no reunion. We are communicating all the time. We want to do something. Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”

Some fans believe that Victoria is the one holding back from the entire group getting together again.

The band’s former manager, Chris Herbert, spoke to Betway about whether he thinks Victoria is the reason for that and why he can’t see the iconic group reuniting any time soon.

“Personally, I’d only want to see it if all five of them were on stage together. I wouldn’t want to see four of them or three of them,” Herbert said. “Their legacy deserves all five members. Looking at what Victoria has achieved, though, she’s done something remarkable. She’s managed to establish herself in the fashion industry, which is notoriously difficult. People don’t usually take pop stars seriously when they move into luxury fashion, but she’s proved everyone wrong.

“She’s built a hugely respected business. I honestly don’t know why she’d want to put that at risk for a reunion. As much as I’d love to see all five of them together again, I struggle to see it happening. I’d be delighted to be proved wrong, but I just can’t see it. She’s built an incredible career doing something she’s genuinely passionate about.”

Herbert added, “As for whether Victoria is stopping a reunion, I honestly don’t know … The difficulty is that they’re all incredibly busy. They’re not sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. Just organizing a meeting between five people with careers and families is a challenge, never mind planning a world tour. People talk about the 30th anniversary as though these things happen overnight, but they don’t. A reunion like that requires years of planning.”

K9 Unveils 99 Pounds of Illegal Goods in Suitcase from Thailand

0

An agriculture detection canine from Customs and Border Protection recently unearthed almost 100 pounds of banned meat, plants, and wildlife products hidden in luggage from Thailand. This feat occurred after the dog signaled the presence of the suspicious suitcase, as reported by authorities.

According to CBP, K9 Maisy led officers to the bag, which was packed with 50 pounds of various meats, including raw meat, 33 pounds of mangoes, garlic, bamboo, banana plants, and about 16 pounds of Bengal monitor lizard. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has since taken custody of the monitor lizard.

“If you discovered all this in a suitcase, wouldn’t you be this happy?” CBP commented, sharing a photo of Maisy proudly posing behind the remarkable collection.

Jack Smith Faces Criminal Referral Over Alleged False Statements to Congress

0

Jack Smith, the former special counsel, finds himself in a legal quandary following a criminal referral issued on Wednesday. The referral accuses Smith of potentially misleading members of the House regarding his investigation under the Biden administration, which was centered around President Trump.

Jim Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, has brought this matter to the attention of the Justice Department. Jordan claims that new records contradict Smith’s previous testimony. Smith had assured the committee that he neither obtained nor reviewed text messages from lawmakers while his team probed into Trump’s alleged actions to disrupt the 2020 Presidential Election.

In a letter directed at acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, which The Post accessed, Jordan stated, “The Committee on the Judiciary submits evidence that suggests former Special Counsel Jack Smith may have intentionally provided false testimony during his deposition on December 17, 2025.”

Jordan further expressed concerns in his letter, insisting, “Under oath, Mr. Smith appears to have made knowingly false statements of significant fact, as exposed by newly obtained documents from the Department of Justice. The Committee is relaying this information for the DOJ’s consideration of a potential breach of 18 U.S.C. § 1001.”

Smith, during his deposition, faced questions regarding whether he sought a “search warrant for the content of any text messages” belonging to Congressional members.

“No, I don’t recall that,” the former special counsel responded, maintaining that he only obtained lawmaker toll records, which include information about calls made and received and when text messages were transmitted but not their content.

Jordan argued that the former special counsel’s responses “gave the impression that neither Mr. Smith nor his team had access to the content of Members’ privileged text messages.”

“We now know this to be false,” the Ohio Republican stated.

Jordan cited DOJ records released to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) last week that showed more than 40 members of Congress had their text messages viewed by Smith’s team.

The DOJ informed Grassley that Smith’s team “directly accessed” text messages between lawmakers and White House employees – sent between October 2020 and Jan. 20, 2021 –  after a “Filter Team” set up by the special counsel’s office to ensure investigators weren’t accessing privileged documents or violating officials’ constitutional rights was “bypassed.”

“Based on this new information, there is cause for investigation to determine whether Mr. Smith knowingly made false statements to obstruct the Committee’s oversight,” Jordan wrote.

The chairman argued that Smith’s conduct “can only be understood as an effort to thwart the Committee’s inquiry by intentionally making false statements and representations before Congress.”

“We therefore believe that sufficient evidence exists for DOJ to examine whether Mr. Smith’s actions warrant a charge.”

The DOJ and Smith’s attorney did not immediately respond to The Post’s requests for comment.

Effective Chair Exercises to Reduce Belly Overhang for Seniors Over 60

0

Looking to tackle belly overhang after 60? Ditch the traditional crunches and try these four dynamic chair exercises that engage a greater range of muscles.

>

Shedding that stubborn belly overhang is more efficient when workouts involve multiple body regions. While crunches target the abs specifically, incorporating a chair into your routine can amplify intensity by engaging larger muscle groups and maintaining a lively pace. The increased muscle involvement equates to a greater overall effort, which boosts calorie burn throughout the workout session.

For those over 60, the chair offers a unique advantage by providing a stable platform for a variety of exercises. It serves as a reliable point of support for balance, and an elevated base for both upper-body and core exercises. This stability enhances your confidence, allowing you to perform challenging exercises that yield results.

When implementing chair exercises with clients, the aim is to design a session that is both achievable and effective. Exercises like sit-to-stand with knee drives, supported lunges, incline push-ups, and elevated mountain climbers can transform a brief routine into an invigorating workout experience. While the abdominal muscles remain engaged, the involvement of larger muscle groups ensures a comprehensive workout that feels fulfilling.

This four-move circuit is crafted to keep you active without feeling rushed. Ensure the chair is stable, perform controlled repetitions, and take short breaks to maintain proper form throughout each round.

Chair Sit-to-Stand With Knee Drive

(This video shows how to perform a sit-to-stand perfectly.) Simply add in the knee drive to perform the full exercise)

The chair sit-to-stand with knee drive turns a basic lower-body move into a stronger full-body exercise. Standing up targets the thighs and glutes, while the knee drive engages your core and adds more movement to each rep. Keep the pace smooth so your balance stays under control.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, hip flexors, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Sit near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Place your feet flat on the floor about hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and lean your chest slightly forward.
  4. Press through your feet to stand tall.
  5. Drive one knee toward your chest.
  6. Lower the foot, sit back down with control, and alternate sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Standard sit-to-stands, sit-to-stands with pause, slow-tempo sit-to-stands.

Form Tip: Stand fully before lifting the knee to keep the rep controlled.

4 Standing Exercises That Firm Up Your Body Faster Than Gym Classes for People After 50

Incline Chair Push-Up

Incline chair push-ups train your chest, shoulders, triceps, and core. The elevated angle makes the push-up easier to manage while still giving your upper body meaningful work. Keep your body long and tight so your midsection supports the movement.

Muscles Trained: Chest, shoulders, triceps, core, glutes.

How to Do It:

  1. Place a sturdy chair against a wall.
  2. Put your hands on the chair seat or back.
  3. Step your feet back until your body forms a straight line.
  4. Brace your core and lightly squeeze your glutes.
  5. Lower your chest toward the chair with control.
  6. Press through your hands to return to the starting position.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Wall push-ups, counter push-ups, slow-tempo incline push-ups.

Form Tip: Keep your elbows angled slightly back and avoid letting your hips sag.

Chair-Supported Reverse Lunge

Chair-supported reverse lunges add more lower-body effort to the workout while keeping balance stable. The front leg handles most of the work as you lower and stand, helping increase the circuit’s demand while strengthening the legs and hips.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, calves, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand beside a sturdy chair with one hand resting lightly on the back.
  2. Set your feet hip-width apart.
  3. Step one foot back into a reverse lunge.
  4. Lower with control as both knees bend.
  5. Press through your front foot to stand tall.
  6. Complete all reps, then switch sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Short-range reverse lunges, supported split squats, slow-tempo reverse lunges.

Form Tip: Keep your front heel grounded and use the chair for balance, not momentum.

6 Daily Leg Exercises That Restore Balance Faster Than Lunges After 60

Elevated Chair Mountain Climber

Elevated-chair mountain climbers add a conditioning finish while keeping your core active. The chair raises your hands off the floor, making the plank position more accessible. Drive the knees with control and keep the pace brisk enough to raise your breathing without losing form.

Muscles Trained: Abs, obliques, shoulders, hip flexors, glutes, quadriceps.

How to Do It:

  1. Place a sturdy chair against a wall.
  2. Put both hands on the chair seat or back.
  3. Step your feet back into an incline plank.
  4. Brace your core and keep your hips level.
  5. Drive one knee toward your chest.
  6. Step it back and alternate sides for the full interval.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 20 to 30 seconds. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between sets.

Best Variations: Slow mountain climbers, incline knee drives, cross-body mountain climbers.

Form Tip: Keep your shoulders over your hands and move your knees without bouncing your hips.

4 Bed Exercises That Rebuild Core Strength Faster Than Planks After 60

How to Use Chair Exercises to Trim Belly Overhang After 60

Use these four exercises as a circuit. Complete one set of each move in order, rest for 60 to 90 seconds, then repeat for two to three total rounds.

  • Keep the circuit moving: Short rest periods help the routine feel more active while still giving you enough time to keep good form.
  • Prioritize the bigger moves: Sit-to-stands, push-ups, and lunges produce more total work than isolated ab reps.
  • Use the chair safely: Place it against a wall before doing push-ups or mountain climbers to keep it secure.
  • Progress gradually: Add a few reps, extend the mountain climber interval, or slow the lowering phase as your strength improves.
  • Support the routine with daily movement: Walking and regular activity help the strength work contribute to body-composition goals.

Crunches can target the abs, but a stronger plan engages more of the body. Use the chair to stay supported, keep the circuit consistent, and build the kind of effort that helps support a firmer midsection over time.

Judge’s Misconduct Hearing: Lawyer’s Jail Incident Explained

0

In the bustling legal community of metropolitan Atlanta, a seasoned judge now finds herself potentially facing disciplinary measures. The controversy has arisen following an incident where she reportedly imprisoned a defense attorney who arrived late for a court hearing.

Judge Yolanda C. Parker-Smith, aged 53, is currently under scrutiny after being slapped with three formal complaints. These grievances are being carefully examined by Georgia’s Judicial Qualifications Commission (JCC), which oversees judicial conduct in the state.

According to findings from a JCC panel, there is ‘reasonable cause to believe’ Judge Parker-Smith engaged in misconduct. This includes the contentious decision to illegally incarcerate the lawyer for tardiness.

In addition to this allegation, she is also charged with making threats to imprison prosecutors and has been accused of refusing to issue indictments in open court due to personal grievances with a court deputy.

Documents from the JCC, obtained by the Daily Mail, detail an incident on August 14, 2024, in which Parker-Smith purportedly jailed the lawyer despite prior notice from his office regarding his unavoidable delay. The report highlights this as a central issue in the complaints.

The attorney, who is named only as ‘GG’ in the report, was meant to appear in Parker-Smith’s court at 8.30am, but did not arrive until 10.48am because he had to deal with a client who had recently been taken into custody.

His office contacted the judge the night before to warn her about this conflict – but she plowed ahead with jailing him anyway, according to the report.

Parker-Smith allegedly instructed deputies in the courtroom to escort the lawyer into cell once he arrived, without even giving him a chance to explain.

‘Judge Parker-Smith did not address nor interact with GG prior to him being taken to the courtroom detention area,’ the JCC report reads.

‘While in the detention area, the deputy took G.G.’s electronic devices.

‘GG was then escorted from the courtroom detention area to the detention area in the basement of the courthouse where he was placed into a holding cell.

‘The basement detention area holds criminal offenders who have been transported to the courthouse for court.’

‘GG’ was released from the holding cell at noon, and allowed to retrieve his devices.

The judge then summoned him back to her courtroom, where she ‘lectured GG about punctuality and conflicts then appeared confused when GG informed her that his office notified hers about his conflict via email the day before’.

GG asked the judge why she had jailed him, and she did not respond, according to the JCC report.

Parker-Smith is also accused of threatening to punish prosecutors if they did not file a legal document by the end of the day on May 18, 2023.

According to the JCC report, prosecutors and defense attorneys had reached a deal allowing a suspect to enter a plea of ‘nolle prosequi’ – meaning the case would be discontinued.

When the documents involved were filed late, the judge threatened to jail the assistant district attorney involved and their staff.

She warned them that if the document was not filed by 5pm, ‘somebody’s going to be in trouble’ and said they would be behind ‘bars’.

The order was filed the next day and signed by Parker-Smith, and three days later, she retaliated by issuing a contempt of court order against the prosecutors for ‘lying to this court and failing to submit the nolle pros as stated’.

The prosecutors requested to have the hearing with a different judge, and Parker-Smith rescinded the order and canceled their hearing.

Parker-Smith is also accused of refusing to return indictments in open court in February this year because she did not want to be in the same courtroom as the corporal assigned to the case.

‘Judge Parker-Smith then refused to enter her courtroom to return the indictments,’ the JCC report reads. ‘Instead, the grand jury team had to find another judge to complete the duty.’

The judge is accused of failing to comply with contempt laws, failing to be ‘patient, dignified, and courteous’ to the lawyers involved in the complaints, and of allowing ‘certain interests or relationships to influence her judicial conduct’.

‘Judge Parker-Smith’s conduct amounts to willful misconduct in office and conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice which brings the judicial office into disrepute, and warrants discipline,’ the JCC report concludes.

Parker-Smith was elected to the Georgia state bar in 2004, and advanced to the Superior Court of DeKalb County in August 2020.

Eminem Faces New Development in Legal Battle with Australian Swimwear Brand

0

Eminem’s legal team is back in action, filing an appeal after a setback in their trademark dispute against Australian company Swim Shady. The renowned rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, seeks to protect his famous alter ego, “Slim Shady,” from brand confusion.

In early July, the Australian Registrar of Trade Marks ruled in favor of Swim Shady, a decision that didn’t sit well with the rapper’s lawyers. They were given until July 22 to challenge the decision, and they have decisively moved forward with the appeal.

The heart of the dispute lies in the similarities between Eminem’s “Slim Shady” persona and the name of the Australian brand, known for its beach shades and accessories. Mathers created “Slim Shady” to express a more intense side of his music, first showcased in the controversial 1999 album, Slim Shady LP.

Swim Shady, launched in 2024 by former South Sydney Rabbitohs executive Jeremy Scott and Elizabeth Afrakoff, quickly became a recognized name in the world of beachwear. Their lineup includes stylish shades and beach-related accessories, a distinct but contentious name branding moment.

The legal documentation for the appeal was officially submitted to the Federal Court of Australia’s Victoria Registry on Wednesday afternoon, marking the next chapter in this high-profile trademark battle.

The rapper’s legal team, Davies Collison Cave, has been contacted for comment.

Hi! My name is…

Eminem’s legal team claimed Mathers has used the word ‘Shady’ in his promotion since 1999, with the rapper launching an associated clothing brand called Shady Limited.

In Australia, Eminem has owned the trademarks “Shady” and “Shady Limited” for use in merchandise since 2002.

It wasn’t until January 2025, however, that the rapper filed for trademark rights to “Slim Shady” — a month after the launch of the Australian company.

Intellectual property law firm Meyer West IP, acting for Swim Shady, filed a ‘no-use’ application for a partial removal of the rapper’s trademarks, arguing that they hadn’t been used in Australia for the previous three years.

The judge was not satisfied Eminem demonstrated sufficient control over his image and his business enterprises, and saw no evidence of “direct use” of his trademarks in Australia during the three-year period.

The US mogul was ordered to pay Swim Shady’s legal costs.

“Elizabeth and I are delighted with today’s decision,” founder Scott told Rolling Stone in a statement at the time.

“While this is an important milestone for Swim Shady, it is one step in the broader trade mark proceedings, and we recognise there are still matters to be resolved.”

SBS News has contacted Swim Shady for comment.

‘Eminem Esque’

In 2017, Eminem took New Zealand’s National Party to the Wellington High Court over their use of his track ‘Lose Yourself’ in a political campaign.

The High Court ordered the National Party to pay NZD$600,000 ($499,000) in damages to Eminem after using a version of the iconic guitar riff, drum beat and sparse piano melody of Lose Yourself in a re-election campaign for former prime minister John Key.

The production music track was called “Eminem Esque”.

The battle made it to US late-night talk show Last Week Tonight, where host John Oliver called it “unquestionably the lamest rap beef since Lil Wayne’s five-year feud with William H Macy”.

Katy Perry takes the stage in a stars and stripes tie and a white business shirt that says "I am not a robot" on it

Eminem isn’t the only celebrity to launch a trademark battle in Australia.

An 18-year trademark dispute between pop singer Katy Perry and Australian fashion line Katie Perry ended in 2026 after the High Court found the designer was not in breach of trademark laws.

The pop singer initially won her case in the Federal Court, only to lose on appeal.

Intense Manhunt: Masked Gunman Allegedly Shoots NYC Cab Driver in Overnight Robbery

0

Authorities in New York City are on the hunt for a masked assailant who is accused of shooting a young cab driver in the face amid a late-night heist in Brooklyn.

As reported by Fox 5 New York from a NYPD press release, the incident unfolded around 4 a.m. on Saturday. The target was a TLC-licensed livery cab, a type of taxi frequently used for pre-arranged transport rather than picking up street-hailing passengers.

The law enforcement officials disclosed that the suspected gunman entered the cab, allegedly menaced the driver while demanding cash and the vehicle’s keys.

“The victim proceeded to exit the vehicle when the unidentified individual discharged a firearm striking the 21-year-old male victim in the face,” police said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot after stealing “an unknown amount of currency,” police said.

Matt Freese Faces Intense Boos in NYCFC Return Debut

0

Forgiveness seems elusive for Matt Freese among American soccer fans, especially those in Columbus.

The goalkeeper for the U.S. men’s national team faced a chorus of boos every time he handled the ball during New York City FC’s game, their first since the World Cup break.

In a tightly contested match, NYCFC managed to secure a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew. However, in Ohio’s heartland at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, Freese became the focal point of disdain as fans expressed their displeasure.

Some supporters still seemed upset about Freese’s misstep during the U.S. team’s World Cup clash against Belgium. His critical error, which helped Belgium score their third goal, apparently lingered in the minds of these passionate fans.

The jeers began the moment Freese touched the ball in the third minute, with Columbus fans echoing “SHAME!” shortly thereafter. The booing intensified in the sixth minute as Thiago Martins passed it back to him, amplifying the crowd’s response.

Later in the first half, the Apple TV broadcast zoomed in on one Columbus fan who was giving him a thumbs-down.

The reception didn’t appear to bother Freese much on the pitch, as the New York City FC goalkeeper made three saves against Columbus to help his club win its sixth game of the season.

NYCFC head coach Pascal Jansen said that Freese’s performance “speaks for itself” when asked by The Post about the goalkeeper’s reception Wednesday night.

“He’s not worried about these things. He has to go through it,” Jansen said. “Everybody is apparently still very disappointed either with the performance from the national team as one, and maybe in particular Matty’s performance, given the last game that he played, and what happened in that game.

“But that is something that Matty has to deal with, and he’ll get through that with the support of everybody around him, but especially the locker room. We’re not worried one bit.”

Matt Freese

Freese was not made available to the media following the win in Columbus, but he had spoken to The Post last week in a lengthy phone interview in which he expressed a desire to not let the World Cup mistake “define my career.”

The 27-year-old had said that he had received plenty of support from American soccer fans during his trip back to New York, with young fans and their parents approaching him at the airport to tell him how they had fallen in love with soccer.

Jansen believed that Freese’s performance Wednesday night showed how well he can handle the challenges.

“If you look at how he played today, even though they were booing him, because it wasn’t just a little bit, it was almost the whole stadium that was booing him,” the coach explained. “Trying to get him off his game. But if you look back at how he handled himself, you can only give him a massive compliment for how he presented himself today.”
