Johnson City Doctor Faces Suspension: Medical License Revoked Following Patient Rape Charges

The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners has taken decisive action against a Johnson City physician, Dr. Atif Atyia, by suspending his medical license following serious allegations. This decision comes amidst charges of rape filed against Atyia last year, with further claims of sexual misconduct surfacing from two other individuals.

On March 25, the board moved to summarily suspend Dr. Atyia’s license, citing an urgent need for protective measures. This suspension was deemed necessary to safeguard the public while the state prepares to bring formal disciplinary actions. A year prior, Atyia had already faced restrictions when his authority to prescribe Schedule II drugs was suspended owing to these criminal allegations.

In a detailed seven-page report, it was revealed that beyond the incident leading to Atyia’s criminal charges in February 2025, a Tennessee Department of Health investigator uncovered further claims from two additional supposed victims. This information was relayed by a detective from the Johnson City Police Department to the state health department in December 2025.

As the legal proceedings continue, Atyia is set to appear in court on April 24 for a criminal motions hearing in Washington County Circuit Court. He currently faces charges that include one count of aggravated rape and two counts of sexual battery.

One of the new allegations dates back to April 2021. According to a female patient, Atyia, who was her primary care physician, conducted an exam that she described as unnecessary and sexually inappropriate, while also probing her about her sexual history.

The third incident dates to 2014. That alleged victim was a university student who was doing a clinical rotation. She reported that Atyia sexually assaulted her in a patient examination room.

Atyia’s license to practice in Virginia was summarily suspended in February based on the allegations.

The Tennessee suspension order gave Atyia an opportunity to present his version of the facts at an informal conference before the board if he requested one by April 3. There is no information on the TDH website about whether Atyia made such a request. Any such conference would be to discuss whether the board’s emergency action was justified.

Controversial Islanders Promo Sparks Outrage: Funds Raised for Convicted Ex-NYPD Officer

0

The New York Islanders have found themselves at the center of controversy following a jumbotron promotion during their recent game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The promotion called on fans to donate to the legal defense of Erik Duran, a former New York City police sergeant who was recently convicted of manslaughter.

Duran, who was sentenced last week to a prison term of three to nine years, was found guilty of causing the death of 30-year-old Eric Duprey after throwing a cooler of ice at him during an attempted arrest. The jumbotron display featured a photograph of Duran alongside a QR code, enabling fans to directly contribute to his legal fund. It also included a message from the Sergeants Benevolent Association urging fans to support what they described as a “fight for justice.”

Additionally, the union stated that the team would allocate 25% of the proceeds from a 50/50 raffle to support Duran’s case. Vincent Vallelong, the president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, explained that the initiative was sparked by a suggestion from a source at The New York Post, who indicated that the Islanders were looking to assist Duran.

The Islanders have opted not to comment on the situation, and attempts to contact The New York Post for a statement have gone unanswered.

A spokesperson for the Islanders declined to comment. An emailed inquiry to The Post was not returned.

An attorney for Duprey’s family, Jon Roberts, said they were “deeply troubled by the decision of the New York Islanders to align themselves, even symbolically, with efforts that appear to support Sgt. Duran’s legal defense.”

“This was not a neutral act,” Roberts’ statement continued. “It sends a message — intended or not — that risks undermining public confidence in a fair legal process and deepens the pain of a family still grieving.”

The NHL did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment.

Duprey’s death came as Duran and other narcotics officers were carrying out an undercover drug bust in the Bronx in 2023.

Surveillance footage showed Duran lifting a bystander’s cooler full of drinks and ice and throwing it at Duprey as he attempted to flee on a motorized scooter. The impact of the cooler caused him to crash into a tree, and he died almost instantly.

The former sergeant’s conviction in February drew fierce protests from police officers and their supporters, who argued it would discourage officers from doing their jobs and hurt public safety. It is the first time in at least two decades that an NYPD officer will spend time in prison for an on-duty death. His attorney has said he will appeal the sentence.

Vallelong, the union president, said the chance to raise money for Duran at a professional hockey game “came out of left field.”

Photographs published by The New York Post show Vallelong posing with the Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky and newspaper executive Pat Judge inside the team’s stadium, which is on Long Island.

Vallelong said “the arena blew up into applause” when Duran’s photograph appeared on the video screen. He dismissed criticism of the hockey team’s decision to solicit donations.

“They’re a private organization. They can do whatever they want,” he said of the Islanders, likening the promotion to celebrations of the military common in professional sports.

Vallelong declined to say how much money was raised for the legal defense fund. The 50/50 raffle took in $44,890, according to the Islander’s website.

Shocking Revelations: How Lisa Hochstein Allegedly Bugged Lenny’s Car and What the Secret Tapes Reveal

Lisa Hochstein, well-known for her role on “The Real Housewives of Miami,” along with her former partner Jody Glidden, faces allegations of secretly placing a recording device in the vehicle of her ex-husband, Lenny Hochstein. This claim has emerged from an arrest warrant that has come to light.

The allegations trace back to 2023, amid the couple’s divorce proceedings, when Lenny accused Lisa of the covert act. According to the warrant, Lenny had loaned his car to Lisa on March 10, 2023, at her request. She purportedly expressed interest in purchasing a similar vehicle for herself.

However, upon the car’s return two days later, Lenny discovered what he described as a “suspicious device” on the floorboard of the driver’s seat. By March 31, 2023, he had identified the item as a “hidden recorder,” further complicating the already contentious split between the former couple.

People obtained the warrant, which alleged Lenny loaned his car to Lisa on March 10, 2023, after she asked to borrow it. He said she claimed she was “thinking of buying one” for herself.

Two days later, he stated she brought the car back and that he noticed a “suspicious device in the driver seat floorboard” on March 31, 2023, which he alleged was identified as a “hidden recorder.”

“It was covered in tape which, upon learning the nature of the device, the victim suspected was used to secure it under the seat and out of view,” the warrant stated.

Lenny claimed he told his lawyer and they obtained experts who recovered several recordings off the device.

“One of the last recordings from before the vehicle was returned to the victim depicts Lisa Hochstein and [Jody] Glidden holding a discussion and the distinct sound of a device such as the hidden recorder being wrestled into place,” the warrant detailed.

It also noted Lisa could be heard saying “done” at one point on the recording and alleged the device recorded Lenny’s conversations with Lisa, as well as discussions about Lisa, their kids, his finances, a construction project, and his plastic surgery practice.

Lenny noted he told authorities he confronted Lisa regarding the recordings and said he did not consent to her recording him. He gave the device to detectives who allegedly were able to obtain deleted material from the device, which included a tape of Lisa and Jody “engaged in intimate activities,” as well as other conversations between them.

The warrant goes on to allege Jody bought “two devices of the exact same make and model” on Amazon three months prior.

The warrant concluded with the following statement: “Your Affiant has reason to believe and does believe that Lisa Hochstein and Jody Glidden, working together, installed the hidden recorded device without the victim’s knowledge or consent and secretly recorded conversations between the victim and numerous persons and parties, including patients of the victim.”

As Reality Blurb reported earlier today, Lisa turned herself into police custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami on Wednesday morning. Lisa’s bail was reportedly set at $5000 and was released soon after.

“I don’t want to let anyone distract me from my big divorce case this month. I’m focused on the well-being of my children, who have been through enough,” she said in a statement. “I’ve heard nobody has been charged with eavesdropping in Miami history.”

Earlier this week, it was reported Jody was arrested for charges related to the same matter.

Reality Blurb spoke exclusively to legal counsel for Lisa and Jody afterward, who gave the following statement: “This matter is part of a contentious divorce proceeding and does not belong in criminal court.”

Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton Take Their Relationship to the Next Level

0

Kim Kardashian appears to be getting more serious with her boyfriend, Lewis Hamilton.

The couple was spotted on Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles, visiting a design store to browse for luxury rugs.

First seen together during the Super Bowl earlier this year, the pair wore coordinated pale-colored outfits, sparking speculation that they might be setting up a home together in Southern California.

Lewis Hamilton, 41, who usually resides in a Monaco penthouse, opted for a relaxed look with a cream zip-up pullover and loose-fitting faded blue jeans.

Meanwhile, the 45-year-old reality TV star donned a pale gray zip-up jacket paired with SKIMS leggings that flared at the bottom. She completed her ensemble with Perspex high heels and a gunmetal gray Gucci shoulder bag featuring a chain strap.

The stars have been friends for over ten years but their romance only began early this year with vacations in England and France.

During their Wednesday outing, the two did not display any affection as the Formula One driver walked a step ahead of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star.

He also kept his eyes glued on his cell phone while keeping a low profile in a cap and sunglasses.

Kardashian tried to keep up while in her high heels as she added oversized black sunglasses.

Kim was seen arriving in style in an ivory SUV with a male chauffeur. Later, she was seen walking through a parking lot where a Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover were parked.

Days earlier Hamilton was seen at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California.

The duo were spotted sweetly linking arms as they arrived for Justin Bieber’s Coachella set on Saturday.

The TV personality and her F1 driver boyfriend strolled near the front of the stage during the headlining set.

The couple – who recently went Instagram official – were also joined by Kardashian’s eldest daughter North from her marriage to rapper Kanye West. The 12-year-old wore a long blue wig as they wandered around the festival.

Kardashian is said to have departed Los Angeles on Monday evening and arrived in the UK the following afternoon, local time.

After touching down in Farnborough, Hampshire, she was driven to Hamilton’s £18million home in Kensington, west London.

Sources close to Kardashian say her strenuous trip across the Atlantic was a bid to keep their romance alive.

An insider told The Sun: ‘Lewis and Kim are two of the busiest people in showbiz, but they are determined to do everything to see each other when they have any spare time.

During their Wednesday outing, the two did not display any affection as the Formula One driver walked a step ahead of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star

‘Kim spent Easter weekend with her family and then had a photoshoot in Los Angeles on Monday morning, then flew across the Atlantic to see Lewis.

‘They didn’t have long together because she had commitments in the US to get back to, but it was quality time.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for both Kardashian and Hamilton.

The day before she landed in London the couple went Instagram official.

A reel shared by the F1 driver on Monday showed Kardashian sitting in the passenger seat of his red Ferrari.

Hamilton was driving his car at high speeds in Japan.

He set the video to the song Victory Lap by Skepta, PlaqueboyMax and FredAgain and wrote in the caption: ‘HERE WE GO AGAIN. TOKYO DRIFT VOL. III.’

Near the end of the video, Kardashian could be seen smiling after Hamilton showed off his driving.

Kardashian recently traveled back to California for an extravagant Easter celebration with her family, but in late March, the pair were seen walking together in Tokyo.

They were first rumored to be dating in early February when they were seen on what appeared to be a romantic weekend trip in Europe.

They were reportedly spotted in the Cotswolds and later travelled from the UK to Paris.

That same month, they made a public appearance together and were spotted sitting together in the same VIP booth at the Super Bowl.

In early March, they enjoyed a luxurious trip together in Utah, and at the end of the month, the pair traveled to Tokyo alongside Kardashian’s kids.

The star reportedly brought along her three youngest children: Saint, ten, Chicago, eight, and Psalm, six. A source previously said that the couple have an ‘intense’ relationship and added that her family ‘adores’ him.

Minor Leak Triggers Refinery Fire, Potentially Disrupting Australia’s Fuel Supply

0

in brief

  • A major fire broke out at an oil refinery in Geelong, Victoria, on Wednesday night.
  • Energy Minister Chris Bowen said Australia’s fuel supply could be disrupted by the blaze.

A major fire erupted at one of Australia’s two active fuel refineries, with initial investigations pointing to a “small leak” triggered by a mechanical malfunction as the likely cause.

Firefighters in Victoria rushed to tackle what was described as a “significant” blaze at Viva Energy’s refinery in Corio, Geelong, late Wednesday night. The fire ignited around 11 p.m., prompting a swift emergency response.

By Thursday morning, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) Deputy Commissioner Michelle Cowling assured ABC News that the situation was “well under control.” She confirmed that the fire was completely extinguished shortly after midday.

According to Cowling, the fire seemed to result from a minor leak following the failure of valves in the mechanical equipment. This leak caused a plume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to ignite, fueled by “several ignition sources” present within the refinery.

“It appears that a valve failure led to a small leak,” Cowling explained, pointing to the mechanical issue as the catalyst for the blaze.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen earlier said that the country’s fuel supply “may be impacted for some time” due to the blaze.

“Not great timing,” Bowen told ABC News Breakfast.

FRV said that it had responded to multiple calls reporting explosions overnight and that they expected to continue to battle the blaze until at least this afternoon.

The refinery is still producing diesel and jet fuel at a reduced rate, while the impact on petrol production remains in question.

Hussein Dia, a professor of future urban mobility at Swinburne University, said the incident would add pressure to an “already tight and globally exposed fuel system”.

“The loss or reduction of output from a major domestic refinery reduces flexibility and resilience in the system. This doesn’t mean people will run out of fuel tomorrow, but it does narrow the buffer we have to absorb shocks,” he said.

‘Disappointing on so many levels’

Viva Energy CEO Scott Wyatt told reporters on Thursday morning that the outbreak of the fire was “disappointing on so many levels”.

“Naturally, petrol will be one of the products that will potentially be impacted, depending on how we operate the units after,” Wyatt said.

He added that he was confident that the overseas supply of refined fuels would be able to fill the potential shortfall in petrol.

The extent of the damage to the refinery remains unclear, but two units in the petrol complex have been affected.

In separate remarks on Sky News, Wyatt said production would continue at a “very low” level without specifying the output level.

“In the days ahead, we will look at how we can continue to operate the refinery without the need to use these two units that have been affected,” he said.

“We have operated in this way before, so we have a high degree of confidence that we can do that.

Bill Patterson, refinery manager at Corio, said that the fire started in the “mogas” aviation sector of the refinery, a section that assists with the production of high-octane fuels, including petrol.

“The unit that’s been impacted is a unit that turns LPG gases into a gasoline component, that gasoline component is used for a number of purposes, including in the blending of normal regular gasoline that you buy from your service stations,” he said.

According to the company’s website, the refinery can process up to 120,000 barrels of oil a day and supplies 10 per cent of Australia’s fuel.

Wyatt and Patterson denied any suggestion that the plant had caught fire due to overlooked safety issues or as a consequence of its age.

McGuinness added that precautions had been taken to ensure that no contaminants had entered the waterways, the bay next to the plant, or the smoke rising from the fire.

Australia imports some 80 per cent of its refined fuel, with the rest processed from domestic supplies at Corio in Victoria and in Lytton, Queensland.

The country has faced fuel security concerns since Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz at the end of February after it was struck by the United States and Israel.

Patterson added that production had been ramped up in response to the events in the Middle East and that maintenance had been “pushed back” in a separate, diesel-producing section of the plant, but that this had not been a contributory factor to the fire.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese last month announced the excise on ‌fuel and diesel would be halved in response to surging prices.

Albanese has visited several south-east Asian countries in recent days, meeting regional leaders to shore up domestic fuel supplies. He is currently in Malaysia for the final leg of his trip.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong pledged not to restrict fuel exports to Australia following a meeting with Albanese last week.

Bowen urged Australians not to purchase more fuel than they needed in response to the news.

SBS has contacted Bowen, FRV, and Viva Energy for comment.

Gainesville Resident Detained After Box Cutter Threat in $75 Dispute

0

In Gainesville, Florida, a confrontation over a financial dispute took a dangerous turn as Edward Jesse Shaw, 73, found himself under arrest after allegedly wielding a box cutter during an altercation. The incident unfolded yesterday afternoon, involving two men and a disagreement over $75.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, Shaw made his way to a business located in the 4300 block of NW 13th Street around 4 p.m. on April 14. The purpose of Shaw’s visit was to demand payment from the business owner. However, the owner insisted Shaw leave the premises, noting that he was not permitted to be there. In response, Shaw allegedly brandished a box cutter while standing in the business’s doorway, issuing a threat: “Give me the money, or I’m gonna cut you.”

The tense situation escalated as a second man, fearing for his safety, resorted to picking up a chair for protection while he dialed 911 for assistance. His quick thinking highlighted the gravity of the threat Shaw posed with the weapon.

Subsequently, after the owner again instructed Shaw to vacate the premises, Shaw retreated outside. Sensing the opportunity, the two men swiftly secured the door to prevent his re-entry, ensuring their safety until authorities arrived.

When the owner told Shaw to leave a second time, Shaw reportedly walked outside and then turned, so the two men quickly closed the door to keep him out.

The owner reportedly told the officer that he was not afraid of Shaw and did not want to press charges.

Shaw reportedly left the scene but later turned himself in at GPD Headquarters.

Post Miranda, Shaw reportedly admitted going to the business to get his money. He said the owner pushed him out of the business, so he pulled a boxcutter in self-defense, but the officer reported that Shaw had previously been told to take the matter to civil court and had no reason to be at the business.

Shaw has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has one traffic conviction from 2000 but no other criminal history. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $25,000 but ordered that he could be released on his own recognizance if he is accepted to Mental Health Court.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

NYC Mayor Mamdani and Democrats Address Wealthy Homeowners with Tax Day Announcement

0

New York’s political leanings are often described as far-left by critics, and the state’s recent actions on Tax Day have reinforced this perception. Governor Kathy Hochul introduced a new tax targeting non-residents who own residential properties valued at $5 million or more in New York City. This initiative, known as the pied-à-terre tax, has sparked heated discussions.

This tax aims to address a significant budget shortfall—an eye-watering $5.4 billion—which critics attribute to years of mismanagement and extravagant spending. The state, in its efforts to bridge this gap, has turned to those owning luxury properties, causing a stir among property owners and political commentators alike.

Governor Hochul shared the announcement on her social media platform, X, on Tuesday, but it was Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s slickly produced video, celebrating the move to tax the wealthy, that captured widespread attention on Wednesday. Mamdani’s outspoken viewpoints, which align with some basic principles of communism, have not been a secret, adding another layer of controversy to the tax proposal.

…Gov. Kathy Hochul has decided to push for a so-called pied-à-terre tax aimed at the ultrawealthy who primarily live outside the city.

Ms. Hochul will formally propose a yearly tax surcharge on second homes in New York City that are worth $5 million or more, she said on Tuesday.

The exact cost of the surcharge has not yet been ironed out, but the governor hopes to raise $500 million annually that would be used to address New York City’s deficit, estimated at $5.4 billion through the next fiscal year.

Notice that, readers? The dire need, which the Democrats readily admit, comes because they need to fill a budgetary pothole they made themselves through mismanagement and overspending; $5.4 billion is a massive pothole of waste, fraud, and abuse.

Hochul shared a clip Tuesday from the announcement presser on her X account. But it was a slick, overproduced video boasting about soaking the rich by NYC’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani that went viral on Wednesday:

Readers likely know that Mamdani has not made it a secret where he stands on some of the most basic tenets of communism. Before we get back to him, not everything was doom and gloom on April 15. My colleague Bob Hoge wrote that the media surprisingly gave some kudos to Republicans, for the Tax Day wins for many Americans on their 2025 filings, via the OBBB (One Big Beautiful Bill) getting passed then signed into law by President Trump

Back to Mayor Mamdani. This isn’t the first example of him going full-bore ahead on the socialist slop.

RedState just wrote on Tuesday about his proposed, government-run free grocery stores – a concept that would make Stalin and company proud.

And while the issue predated Mamdani’s moving into Gracie Mansion, the woes of all New Yorkers who seek a safe refuge from criminals and madmen in the City That Never Sleeps have been mounting thanks to liberal governance in recent years.

Man Wielding a Machete Injures 3 in Bizarre Attack at NYC Subway Station, Then Police Fatally Shoot Him

Here’s the problem Hochul, Mamdani, and their pals in the Democrat-majority legislature are going to realize, if they usher this punishment into law: These are the last people you should want to dissuade from growing your city or state’s economy, through the imposing of punitive taxation.

Taxes like this do not create the conditions the State hopes it will. We’re talking about people who are living in a free country, not serfs. People who are legally able to make contracts with others, who are able to do business with others of their own free will. These second-home owners will sell their homes with relish before paying any pied-à-terre tax; they can afford to stay in the finest, fanciest hotels in midtown Manhattan. And their earnings will instead go to Chandler/Gilbert, Arizona, which already appeals to my state’s high-tech corridor folks, according to a late 2024 survery, or they could take their money overseas to invest in the luxury skyscrappers of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Dubai. What would they have to lose?

You know what else this new tax won’t do? Provide safe streets for NYC residents, who less than a week ago saw news reports on a crazy person slashing subway riders at Grand Central Station with a machete, before law enforcement officials were able to eliminate the threat with their guns (linked above). Guess who hates law enforcement and guns?

No one should have to put up with this commie crap.

Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee has a combined constitutional/math problem for everyone on the property tax proposal:

Tragic Incident: Man Charged in Fatal Assault with Cast-Iron Stove Grate

0

Inset: Ricky Colon (Oswego County District Attorney”s Office). Background: The residence where Colon brutally murdered Rachel Allen in Oswego, N.Y. (Google Maps).

A man from upstate New York faces several decades in prison after being convicted of the brutal murder of his friend using a cast-iron stove grate. Ricky Colon, 37, was sentenced by Oswego County Supreme Court Justice Armen Nazarian to 25 years to life for the killing of 38-year-old Rachel Allen.

This past February, Colon was found guilty by an Oswego County jury of several charges, including second-degree murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and tampering with physical evidence. The tragic incident unfolded on July 13, 2024, at Colon’s home on West Schuyler Street in Oswego, a quaint college town about 40 miles north of Syracuse.

In addition to the life sentence for murder, Justice Nazarian imposed a 25-year sentence for the assault charge, along with lesser sentences for the other charges. However, these sentences will be served concurrently, meaning Colon will serve them simultaneously. This was reported by Oswego County News Now, the joint online platform for The Palladium-News and The Valley Times.

The judge also ordered an additional 25-year sentence for the assault count and single-digit sentences for the lesser crimes, but assessed all of the sentences to run concurrently, or at the same time, according to a courtroom report by Oswego County News Now, the collective online outlet for The Palladium-News and The Valley Times.

The underlying incident occurred on July 13, 2024, at Colon’s own residence on West Schuyler Street in the City of Oswego, a small college town located roughly 40 miles north of Syracuse.

The judge described the murder as one of the most “brutal and disturbing” crimes he had ever seen, recounting an insurance report that said the crime scene required over $20,000 in cleaning services.

“The sheer violence required to inflict those injuries demonstrates an astonishing level of cruelty,” the judge said, “and defies comprehension.”

During the trial, prosecutors said the bludgeoning was so brutal that the metal grate broke into several pieces. The medical examiner determined Allen died from blunt force trauma caused by 58 external injuries and 13 internal injuries. First responders who knew the victim said the damage was so severe they could not recognize her.

Immediately after the killing, Colon recorded a series of cellphone videos inside the house, according to Syracuse.com. In those videos, the defendant is seen covered in blood, crying, and speaking incoherently. In one such video, Colon said he found his friend dead and proclaimed his innocence — expressing a desire to call the police before later saying he believed his life was over.

A prosecutor described the videos as “extremely bizarre” in comments to Syracuse.com.

During sentencing, the defense formally argued the salience of a different kind of life-altering event, one that occurred long before Allen’s murder — citing Colon’s military service during the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and the post-traumatic stress disorder he suffered as a result.

During the trial, however, the court did not allow the defendant’s counsel to mention his PTSD diagnosis, despite repeat efforts.

“Judge, he entered the service one person and came back a different person,” attorney Michael Spano said. “We see that in the letter his brother wrote. He describes him as a happy person, always smiling, but when he came back he was a profoundly different person.”

The state, however, dismissed such excuses offered by the foreign war veteran, saying he was given the right to an attorney, a fair trial, and considerable leeway over a series of in-court outbursts.

“Now I’m asking this court to give him what he deserves,” prosecutor Louis Mannara said. “He showed no mercy…At this point in time the people request you show him the same. He’s not deserving of any.”

After Allen was beaten to death, Colon moved the victim’s body and burned her clothes before calling 911. While speaking with dispatchers, the since-condemned man said his friend had died of a drug overdose. The crime scene belied that claim.

“In a final act of profound callousness, he showered over the deceased body, washed the blood off of himself and onto her,” Nazarian said. “He’s demonstrated a complete and absolute lack of remorse.”

The court also took issue with the post-slaying videos, particularly one in which the defendant said he found Allen in his apartment after waking up from a nap. At this point of the lecture, Colon piped up to interject an obscenity-laden diatribe and to claim that he did not receive a fair trial because he was not allowed to testify on his own behalf. Then, deputies removed the defendant and took him to a holding cell for the duration of the hearing.

Nazarian continued on, despite an objection from the defense.

The judge continued to upbraid Colon, this time for an argument he made to the probation department in his own presentencing report that he needed to supply his victim with alcohol to “save her life” from withdrawal symptoms — though he killed her later the same day.

Colon, the court said, used alcohol and PTSD to try to shield himself from responsibility for his actions and never made any effort to try to alleviate his substance and mental health problems.

“The defendant who absolutely refuses to acknowledge his role in his own horrific actions is a defendant who can’t be rehabilitated,” Nazarian intoned. “His complete lack of remorse combined with his proven capacity for extreme, explosive violence makes him a profound and continuing danger to society and the community. Therefore the maximum sentence allowable by law are not only appropriate in this case, they are absolutely necessary.”

Discovery of Uncounted Ballots Prompts Third Vote Recount in South Australian Seat Secured by One Nation

A South Australian One Nation candidate has questioned how new electoral laws impacted the electoral commission after uncounted votes thrust her seat of Narungga into a third vote count.

Chantelle Thomas recently secured the Yorke Peninsula seat with an incredibly narrow victory, edging out her opponent by just 58 votes. This slim margin initially led to a recount to double-check the accuracy of the results.

However, the electoral process took another unexpected turn when South Australia’s Electoral Commission (ECSA) announced the necessity of a second recount. This decision came after the discovery of 81 unopened ballot papers in the neighboring district of Stuart, potentially impacting the final outcome.

The unopened ballots were retrieved from the Port Pirie early voting center earlier this week, as confirmed by Deputy Premier Kyam Maher. This prompted the commission to take immediate action to ensure the integrity of the election process.

Leah McLay, acting commissioner for the ECSA, reached out to all involved candidates to inform them of the upcoming third count. This step aims to maintain transparency and fairness in the electoral proceedings, providing a clear resolution to a closely contested race.

The commission said its acting commissioner Leah McLay contacted all candidates to notify them of the third count.

“Following the discovery of votes that have not been counted, I have secured the unopened ballot papers and have ordered a further count for the district of Narungga,” McLay said.

“The Commission will support any independent external review into the 2026 State Election and South Australian First Nations Voice to Parliament Election.”

The recount will take place tomorrow, attended by scrutineers and McLay herself.

Thomas slammed news of the recount as “very disappointing for my community in Narungga”.

“We’re being forced to wait – again – to see who will be Narungga’s representative in Parliament,” she said.

“Let’s be clear: this raises serious questions about the integrity of the South Australian election, whether the electoral commission was fully prepared for it, and how Labor’s new electoral laws – passed with Liberal support – impacted on the electoral commission’s preparations.

“Like everyone else, I’ll have to wait for the count on Friday. Afterwards I’m sure there will be more to say about it.”

An independent review into the election has been ordered by the government, Maher said.

“Elections are incredibly complex things to undertake. There are thousands of employees, hundreds of polling booths and over a million votes to count,” Maher said.

“We are now finalising terms of reference and in an addition to that an independent review of how the election was conducted and voters experience.”

Narungga was the final lower house seat to be called in the election, granting Pauline Hanson’s conservative party its fourth seat in Parliament.

The South Australian Liberal Party secured five seats in the Labor Party’s landslide victory on election night.
