An exclusive tip-off to Reality Blurb has unveiled some juicy drama unfolding during production.

An insider revealed that “‘Friend of’ cast member Britani Bateman was prompted to stir things up with full-time housewife Bronwyn Newport.”

“The producers wanted Britani to confront Bronwyn,” the source explained, “and she certainly delivered on that front.”

“Production wanted Britani to go after Bronwyn,” they elaborated. “And she did.”

The drama surrounding the pair occurred “weeks ago,” according to the insider; however, they were not able to provide details on what it was that Britani went after Bronwyn over.

Aside from the drama between them, fans are in for an emotional season, as star Mary Cosby‘s son, Robert Cosby Jr., passed away in February.

Following the news of Robert Jr.’s death, Mary released a heartbreaking statement on Instagram.

“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord,” she said at the time. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”

She captioned her post with the hashtags, “#Godfirst #love #❤️.”

While Robert Jr. had struggled with substance abuse issues for some time, when the season six reunion aired, he was incarcerated.

Mary admitted this was a bit of a relief, sharing she knew he was somewhere he “wasn’t using” drugs.

“At some point, I have to step back so that he can learn and he can make his own decisions, and unfortunately, he’s learning the hard way,” she explained at the time. “But I’m OK with it.”

“It’s just, you don’t want to see your kid suffer, but I know it’s good,” she elaborated. “And I’d rather him be there than dead, you know?”

Aside from Mary’s devastating situation, fans will also see Bronwyn dealing with the fallout of her separation from her husband, Todd Bradley, which she discussed on the reunion.

“After thoughtful consideration, Bronwyn Newport and Todd Bradley have separated,” a rep confirmed to PEOPLE in a December 12 statement. “This was a mutual decision made with care and respect for one another. They ask for privacy during this time.”

While Bronwyn has moved on and is dating boyfriend Brandon Good, she talked with Kelly Ripa about her future with Todd. She shared she’d love for them to “be together,” but she currently needs “space.”

“Todd and I are tricky. We’ve been together for a long time,” Bronwyn stated on the February 11 episode of SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa podcast, via Us Weekly. “I do really love Todd.”

“ Todd and I are separated, and it’s very difficult because our lives are so intertwined and so intermeshed after all this time together,” she said later on the episode. “And I hear him saying to me, since I’ve asked for that separation, that he wants to understand and he wants to do different[ly] and he wants to make it right, and there is a huge part of me that wants that for him.”

“I do want us to be together,” she added. “I’d love to just smooth it over and move forward. There’s also a part of me that feels like some things you shouldn’t have to explain, some things you shouldn’t have to ask for. Some things should be, like, innately understood in such a close relationship.”

She also shared she’s being “very difficult” for Todd as she doesn’t know what she wants “next.”

“I think I just want some space and some time to think about it … He would like to go back to how close and happy we were, and he’s willing to make some changes to get there … But I feel like as a 40-year-old woman, that I don’t wanna have to tell someone how to fix things with me,” she concluded.

Massive Fire Engulfs Major Australian Oil Refinery, Firefighters Strive to Control Blaze

0

Firefighters in Victoria are currently tackling a major fire that erupted at one of the only two oil refineries still in operation across Australia.

The blaze ignited late Wednesday night, around 11 p.m., at the Viva Energy refinery located in Geelong, as reported by Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV).

FRV responded swiftly to numerous calls from the public, who reported hearing explosions at the site.

As of Thursday morning, an update on the VicEmergency website indicated that while firefighters continue to combat the flames, there is no immediate danger to the public.

However, the full extent of the damage inflicted on the refinery remains uncertain at this time.

According to the company’s website, the refinery can process up to 120,000 barrels of oil a day and supplies 10 per cent of Australia’s fuel.

It is one of two operating refineries in Australia, with the other in Lytton, Queensland.

Australia has faced fuel security concerns since Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz after it was struck by the United States and Israel.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese last month announced the excise on ‌fuel and diesel would be halved in response to surging prices.

IDF Conducts Potent Airstrike Against Hezbollah, Surpassing Damage of 2024 Pager Explosions

0

In a bold move, Israel has intensified its military campaign against Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, choosing this time to target the group’s members and leaders directly. This strategic shift by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) signifies a departure from previous operations that primarily focused on dismantling weapons caches and logistical networks. The recent assault is reported to have inflicted more significant damage than the acclaimed 2024 pager attacks.

Targeting the leadership could be seen as a shrewd tactic. In organizations like Hezbollah, leaders often embody the strategic and intellectual core, while the rank-and-file members serve as expendable assets. Despotic leaders frequently eliminate potential threats from within, preferring to keep a tight grip on power by surrounding themselves with less capable followers. Hence, by striking at the leadership, Israel likely maximized its impact.

What stands out, however, is an intriguing observation:

While the latest offensive may have effectively neutralized key Hezbollah figures, the psychological impact of the 2024 pager attacks arguably looms larger in the collective memory. The resonance of such operations often transcends their immediate tactical success, leaving enduring effects on the morale and operational capacity of groups like Hezbollah.

Nearly simultaneously, explosions tore through Beirut, Lebanon, the Beqaa Valley and southern Lebanon as roughly 50 Israeli aircraft struck more than 100 Hezbollah targets.

The targets were not rocket launchers or weapons depots, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), but the nerve centers of the organization — command rooms, intelligence headquarters and offices where Hezbollah commanders planned the next stage of the fight.

Going for the leadership isn’t the worst tactic in the world, especially when you consider that the leadership in organizations like this tends to be the only members with any brains to speak of; most of the run-of-the-mill jihadis are pretty much the dictionary definition of useful idiots. Also, despotic rulers tend not to like having people around who have much of anything in the way of gray matter, as your smarter goblins may harbor notions of taking over. So Israel probably got a lot of bang for their buck on this deal.

But here’s the interesting statement:

The strike drew a comparison to the “beeper” operation in September 2024, when thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah operatives exploded almost simultaneously across Lebanon and Syria in an operation widely attributed to Israel.

The blasts killed more than 40 people and wounded roughly 4,000, according to Lebanese authorities, while Hezbollah later acknowledged that about 1,500 fighters were taken out of action. The operation shattered Hezbollah’s communications network and became the benchmark in Israel for a strike that fundamentally changed the battlefield.

Now, this recent attack may have reduced more Hezbollah leaders to ambient temperature, but there can be little doubt that the pager attack had a greater psychological impact.

Unveiling the Digital Footprints: ISIS-Inspired Suspects and the Emotional Fallout for Families

On Wednesday, the two suspects, Emir Balat, aged 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, aged 19, pleaded not guilty to the federal charges against them. The pair allegedly traveled from Pennsylvania to New York City with the intention of launching this attack.

The incident took place on March 7, when the suspects purportedly tossed live explosive devices during a protest outside the residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Fortunately, the bombs failed to detonate, and no injuries were reported.

During their court appearance, Balat and Kayumi faced eight charges, which include conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist group and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. Both firmly denied the allegations by entering not guilty pleas.

Appearing in federal court Wednesday, both Balat and Kayumi pleaded not guilty to eight charges, including conspiracy to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Balat and Kayumi appeared in court wearing beige prison jumpsuits and shackles and remained motionless as they responded to the judge regarding the next steps in their case.

During the arraignment, Kayumi’s lawyers pointed to his client’s family members, who were seated in the courtroom and came to show their support.

Upon being referenced, an older man in the group grew emotional and proceeded to wipe away tears.

Prosecutors told the judge they are continuing to comb through the “voluminous” discovery in the case, and asked to be granted an additional three weeks to review evidence.

Authorities are also still working to gather information from multiple electronic devices seized from the pair’s vehicle and their respective homes.

“As alleged, just weeks ago, Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi carried out a terrorist attack on the streets of New York,” U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton previously said in a statement. “They sought to murder multiple innocent victims in the name of ISIS. The brave women and men of the NYPD responded immediately, and Balat and Kayumi were arrested on site.”

“Since their attack, our partners at the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force have uncovered evidence revealing the alleged meticulous planning by the defendants in their attack, including a notebook with detailed attack plans and a storage unit containing explosive residue and bomb-making materials,” he added.

As Kayumi was being arrested, an individual from the surrounding crowd asked him why he carried out the alleged attack, to which he replied, “ISIS,” according to authorities.

Prosecutors allege that while speaking to law enforcement, Balat said he hoped the planned attack would be “bigger than the Boston Marathon bombing.”

Dashcam video recorded as the pair were traveling to New York also allegedly captured their discussions surrounding the planning of the attempted attack, according to the indictment.

“What do you think? Are they going to remove the airplanes for us … over New York? Are they going to stop them? If we do the attack and the bombs go off and everything?” Balat asked.

“Just can’t wait for that bomb to go off and his freaking head, his body to get split in half bro, dead,” he added.

“All I know is I want to start terror, bro,” Kayumi allegedly replied, adding, “I want to petrify these people.”

A forensic analysis of the two devices determined that both contained explosives, according to the indictment.

If convicted, both Balat and Kayumi face the possibility of life in prison.

The pair are due back in court on June 16.

Man Arrested with Rifle and Step Stool Near Trump Golf Course: District Attorney Reports

In a bizarre incident near Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles, police apprehended a man brandishing an AR-style “Joker Rifle,” adorned with the chilling phrases “Why so serious?” and “Let’s put a smile on that face.” The man, identified as Sean Steiner, 36, from Arizona, reportedly told authorities he was there to “get some anger out,” according to statements from police and prosecutors.

Steiner now faces a series of felony firearm charges following his arrest by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office on March 29. The criminal complaint, as seen by Law & Crime, alleges that Steiner had modified an “AR-7 Industries Joker Rifle” to mimic a toy gun, a detail confirmed by the LA County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities further revealed that Steiner was not only armed with the distinctive rifle but also carried two loaded handguns, “large-capacity” magazines, additional ammunition, and wore “rifle-rated body armor.” His gear also included gloves, a duffle bag, and notably, a step stool.

In a press release shared on Facebook by the sheriff’s office, it was noted that the “rifle itself stood out” due to its bright green and purple paint job, complete with Joker-style slogans reminiscent of the infamous character played by Heath Ledger in the movie “The Dark Knight.”

The sheriff’s office said in a press release posted this week on Facebook that “the rifle itself stood out” as it was “painted in green and purple with Joker-style phrases” from the movie “The Dark Knight” starring Heath Ledger as the Joker.

A “concerned citizen” spotted Steiner walking in an area near the Trump golf course and notified authorities, according to police. Steiner was allegedly seen hiking through nearby trails and running through traffic on Palos Verdes Drive South near the Trump golf course, per the sheriff’s office.

Prosecutors confirm in the complaint that Steiner was carrying the loaded firearms “in a public place and on a public street.” He is allegedly not the registered owner of the weapons, according to the complaint.

“[Steiner] admitted he … fired one of the pistols near the landslide area to ‘get some anger out,’” the sheriff’s office said in its press release. “Let that sink in.”

Steiner is currently out on bond.

Influencer’s Fiancé Detained in Zanzibar Amid Investigation into Her Mysterious Death

0

The fiancé of a lifestyle influencer, who was discovered dead in Zanzibar just days after their engagement, is currently under police investigation.

Ashlee Jenae, whose real name is Ashly Robinson, was found unconscious in her villa at the Zuri Zanzibar resort on April 9. She was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Officials have indicated that the 31-year-old’s death appears to be a suicide.

However, on Tuesday, the Tanzania Police Force revealed that her fiancé, 45-year-old Joe McCann, is still being questioned, and his passport has been confiscated pending further investigation.

Authorities suggested that the influencer’s death might be linked to a heated argument between the newly engaged couple. The altercation reportedly escalated to such an extent that resort staff felt compelled to relocate McCann to a separate room for safety reasons.

McCann, the millionaire founder of crypto fund Asymmetric Financial, said he returned with a security guard to check up on Robinson, and found her hanging from a door. A hospital later listed her death cause of death as cerebral hypoxia by strangulation and suffocation.

It is believed McCann is just being questioned as a witness, as police have previously told local media he is not suspected of any wrongdoing, according to the BBC.

Robinson’s parents, though, have claimed McCann only alerted them to the tragedy 11 hours later, and has continued to be vague about what happened in the days since.

They have also publicly disputed claims that Robinson would take her own life.

Robinson’s sister Alyssa Endres, 20, also previously told the Daily Mail that her sister was a ‘beautiful’ and high-spirited person, true to the vibrant life she portrayed on social media.

Endres said a suicide would have been ‘extremely’ out of character for her sibling, and makes no sense given the context.

‘She was beautiful inside and out, and everyone who knew her knew that,’ Endres said.

‘Everyone that is standing beside us is really supporting us through all of this because everyone knew that she was a beautiful person, and all she could bring was life to everyone.’

The family also released a statement describing her death as ‘suspicious’.

‘Nothing about this loss feels real,’ the statement reads. ‘One moment she was celebrating love and life in truly Ashly fashion, and the next, she was gone.

‘The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family.

‘At this time, there is an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ashly’s suspicious passing.

‘Although we have many questions, we are placing our trust in the officials in Zanzibar and are working closely with them as we seek clarity and answers.’

The influencer’s parents, Yolanda Denise Endres and Harry Robinson, said she had been traveling with McCann, her boyfriend of one year, and appeared to be having the time of her life on the island off Tanzania when they received the news of her death.

‘She was starting the next chapter of her life. She called us to FaceTime us to share with us her travel and her vacation,’ Endres told ABC13.

Robinson’s social media posts echoed the same sentiment.

‘Chapter 31 and I’m exactly where I need to be,’ she wrote on her final post dated April 7, after describing her vacation as ‘a dream’ three days prior.

But her mother said Robinson called on April 8 to tell her parents that she had argued with her fiancé, and they had moved to separate rooms.

The next day, Endres said she received a disturbing call from McCann.

‘He told me that Ashly did something to herself and she was being taken to the hospital, and he told me she was stable,’ Endres told ABC13.

‘I said what happened, and he told me, it had been 11 hours prior.’

Several hours later, the luxury villa where the couple had been staying broke the news that Robinson had died.

A hospital report seen by ABC13 stated that Robinson had a mark on her neck, and that her fiancé had ‘found she hung herself on the door’.

Robinson was later taken to another hospital, which listed her cause of death as cerebral hypoxia by strangulation and suffocation.

Endres said there were no signs that her daughter would have taken her own life.

‘She’s never done anything that would ever ever lead me to believe that she would do something to harm herself like that. She was happy,’ Endres said.

‘She was loved. She was not just going to be discarded and forgotten about,’ the heartbroken mother added.

Robinson had accrued over 80,000 followers on Instagram by documenting what she called a ‘soft life’ philosophy of positivity, as reported by NeedToKnow.

She often shared loved up photos of herself and McCann to her social media pages, documenting their lavish life together, which appeared to include frequent vacations, including the trip to Tanzania for her birthday on April 5.

McCann proposed to her during a safari on the trip on April 3, as chronicled in a jubilant video shared with her 110,000 Instagram followers.

Footage shows McCann getting down on one knee before they kissed and held hands while walking among giraffes, zebra and wild cats on the animal tour.

Before their trip, the couple also enjoyed front row seats to a Portland Trail Blazers as well as a ski trip to Bend, Oregon.

Robinson celebrated her one-year anniversary with McCann on November 3.

At the time, she documented their milestone with a photograph of them standing together in front of a body of water.

She captioned the post: ‘365 down. Here’s to forever.’

One day before her death, Robinson uploaded photos and video footage of their Zanzibar vacation.

‘If this is a dream, no one wake me up,’ she captioned one carousel which showed her and McCann posing for among zebras.

Following the news of Robinson’s death, her social media pages were flooded with tributes.

Commenting underneath her final Instagram post, uploaded on April 5, one said: ‘My heart is broken hearing what happened.

‘I was just congratulating you a few days ago, this doesn’t feel real.’

Another wrote: ‘May you rest in peace Ashlee. May God bring justice and peace to you and your family. Such a bright and beautiful light inside and out.’

A third penned: ‘Rest in peace, my friend I told you that I wanted to meet you, but I will miss you dearly. RIP, my friend, your life was taken too short.’

Tragic Atlanta-Area Attacks Claim Lives of Homeland Security Employee and Local Woman

ATLANTA (AP) — A man from Atlanta faces charges related to a series of violent incidents occurring within a few hours, resulting in the deaths of two women and leaving a man critically injured. This case has garnered attention from the Trump administration due to the involvement of a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employee, Lauren Bullis, who was fatally shot while walking her dog.

The tragic death of Bullis, coupled with the shootings of the other victims on Monday, prompted Homeland Secretary Markwayne Mullin to release a statement. He expressed concerns about the citizenship status of the accused, Olaolukitan Adon Abel, a 26-year-old originally from the UK, who became a U.S. citizen in 2022 during President Joe Biden’s administration.

Mullin’s statement, shared on social media, described the events as “acts of pure evil” that have deeply affected the Department. He extended his condolences to the victims’ families and enumerated the defendant’s alleged past offenses, though he did not indicate if these occurred before Abel was naturalized.

Investigators have suggested that at least one victim, the injured man, was chosen randomly. They continue to investigate whether the other two victims were also selected without specific targeting.

A morning of violence

The first victim, discovered with several gunshot wounds, was located near a restaurant in the Decatur area around 1 a.m. on Monday. Despite being rushed to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, according to DeKalb County Police Chief Gregory Padrick during a press briefing. Her identity has not yet been disclosed by authorities.

About an hour later in Brookhaven, another Atlanta suburb about 12 miles (19 kilometers) northwest of the first attack, a 49-year-old homeless man who was sleeping outside of a grocery store was shot multiple times, Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said. The man, whose name hasn’t been released, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

“It is apparent to us that it was a completely random attack on a member of our unhoused community,” Gurley said.

Just before 7 a.m. and more than 10 miles (16 kilometers) away in the suburb of Panthersville, officers responding to a call found a woman with gunshot and stab wounds, Patrick said. The woman, Bullis, died at the scene. Investigators in Brookhaven determined that the three attacks were connected, Gurley said.

Adon Abel was taken into custody later Monday during a traffic stop in Troup County, which borders Alabama. He is charged with two counts of malice murder, aggravated assault and firearms counts, court records show. He waived an initial court appearance on Tuesday. Court records don’t list an attorney who might speak on his behalf.

Reached by phone Wednesday, Toyin Adon Abel Jr. said he didn’t want to talk about his brother. But he expressed sympathy for the victims: “I feel terrible for the victims, their families and their connections. It’s a horrible thing,” he said.

Remembered for her warmth and compassion

Bullis served in multiple roles at DHS Office of Inspector General, including as an auditor in the Office of Audits and as a Team Leader in the Office of Innovation, DHS posted on social media, saying she brought “warmth, kindness, and a genuine sense of care to her colleagues each day.”

In a statement, Bullis’ family remembered her as “selfless, kind and compassionate.”

“She deeply loved her family and found joy in running, reading and traveling,” the family said. “Her warmth and generosity touched everyone surrounding her.”

Fellow DHS auditor Ashley Toillion of Denver said she met Bullis at a work conference last year. The two became fast friends as they bonded over running and quickly made plans to have Bullis join Toillion in a race at Walt Disney World.

“You couldn’t meet her and not be her friend,” Toillion said, choking back tears. “She was just the nicest, sweetest, most encouraging person I’ve ever met.”

Mullin, who took over DHS last month after Kristi Noem was fired, said in his statement that Olaolukitan Adon Abel has a criminal record that includes a sexual battery conviction, though he didn’t say which year he was convicted. Online court records show that someone listed as Adon Olaolukitan, who has the same birth date as Adon Abel, pleaded guilty last June in Chatham County, Georgia, to four misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.

In his statement, Mullin noted that since President Donald Trump took office, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which DHS oversees, has worked to ensure that people with criminal histories don’t attain citizenship. But the U.S. has long barred people convicted of most violent felonies from becoming citizens, and it wasn’t immediately clear if Adon Abel — or Adon Olaolukitan, if it’s the same person — had a criminal record that predated him becoming a citizen in 2022.

In response to a request for further details about the case and the defendant’s criminal history, DHS referred The Associated Press to its post about Bullis and her death.

Love Story’ Reflects on the Passing of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, Echoing the End of a ’90s Era

Love Story, which wrapped up its stint on FX but remains available on Hulu for those inclined to indulge in a somber viewing experience, delves deep into the theme of loss. The immediate thought might be of John F. Kennedy Jr., often dubbed “America’s prince,” yet the true focal point of the series is Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Sarah Pidgeon delivers a poignant, breakout performance as Carolyn, portraying a woman who sacrificed everything, even her life, for the sake of her marriage. The tragic tale includes Carolyn’s sister, Lauren Bessette, a promising Wall Street executive, who also perished in the 1999 plane crash alongside JFK Jr. and Carolyn.

The series mourns more than the loss of three promising young lives; it laments the end of an era. In its somewhat melodramatic yet ultimately impactful manner, Love Story evokes a bygone time. The plane crash off the Massachusetts coast didn’t just mark a tragic accident; it symbolized the conclusion of the ’90s dream. Despite its imperfections, the show will likely stand as a defining document of ’90s nostalgia, much like American Graffiti and Happy Days did for the ’50s, Dazed and Confused for the ’70s, and Stranger Things for the ’80s. Now, the ’90s dream finds a renewed audience.

When I refer to the ’90s dream, I’m not talking about my personal ’90s. Back then, I was a newspaper reporter in Chicago, frequenting poetry slams and listening to bands in less-than-glamorous venues. I was young, carefree, and certainly more content than the troubled romantic figures in Love Story. JFK Jr. and Carolyn weren’t living the downtown hipster lifestyle; they were spending weekends in Hyannis, jet-setting to exotic locales, and constantly hounded by paparazzi. Their lives were marked by realities that most of us navigating the ’90s couldn’t fathom, yet we shared a collective experience.

The allure of the ’90s today lies in its resemblance to our current times. We had email, Oprah, CNN, credit cards, Thai takeout, and The Simpsons. It’s not an unrecognizable past. However, many of today’s burdens and challenges were absent then: no social media, no invasive airport security, no smartphones, and no looming threat of AI. It was before Bush v. Gore, before 9/11, before the obesity epidemic. Donald Trump was a mere boastful real estate mogul in Manhattan, and backward baseball caps were all the rage. When JFK Jr. and Carolyn encountered gossip about themselves, it was through newspapers or occasionally Inside Edition. While toxic, it was escapable.

LOVE STORY Ep5 John watching Carolyn running around

This is why younger viewers resonate so strongly with the show. It’s undeniably an enticing love story. Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly, portraying JFK Jr., captivate as the central figures. Creator Connor Hines crafted a narrative that is clean, evocative, and deeply romantic.

Love Story stumbles around in its early episodes. There’s a ludicrous scene where Naomi Watts, playing Jackie Onassis, dances around her luxury townhouse, dying of cancer, to the theme song from the Broadway musical Camelot in front of a portrait of her slain husband. That’s a little on the nose. And actress Daryl Hannah, JFK Jr.’s most prominent ex, comes off as a needy, moronic fool, a portrait so slanderous that it caused Hannah to write a response essay for The New York Times

Love Story gains power in its second half, though, as Hines’s true purpose takes shape. Once Bessette agrees to marry JFK Jr., suddenly the ice princess melts and becomes vulnerable. The Kennedy mythos, and the toxicity that surrounds it, consumes her soul and destroys her. She loses her career, her friends, and her identity — even her soul — while JFK Jr. continues to play around with George and go to book parties and Vanity Fair launches while pursuing his amateur pilot’s hobby that eventually kills the both of them.

Once those elements are in place, Hines focuses his lens. The show’s penultimate episode ends with a long, seemingly single-take argument as Kennedy and Bessette desperately try to save their flailing marriage. After the plane goes down, there’s a long and heartbreaking grief scene between JFK’s sister Caroline and Bessette’s mother, played with stunning effectiveness by longtime TV ringer Constance Zimmer, giving what might be her best-ever performance. There’s a funeral and an ashes-spreading and then the show drifts off into infinity.

So what are we really mourning? When I watched Love Story, I didn’t feel actual grief for the people involved, however real the performances felt at times. I didn’t know them. They were magazine characters to me. I did feel some grief for people in my life who I’ve actually lost, but any evocation of grief, like Hamnet, can do that. Instead, I found myself mourning a time, and a place, and, to some extent, my youth.

Even viewers who didn’t live through the ’90s are mourning the decade’s loss through the show. Love Story features a protagonist who, even though he was one of the richest and most famous people in America, rides his bike through Manhattan on dates. You took cabs, you didn’t Uber. If you wanted takeout, you called the restaurant, for there were no Door Dash grandmas to exploit. If you saved up $250, you could get on a plane and be in Europe the next day.

JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy weren’t like us. They were American royalty. But they lived in our time. The world as it is today isn’t nearly as bad as people say. But when someone who was there tells you that the ’90s were better, believe them. Because it’s mostly true.
