Madonna Shocks Coachella 2026 with Unforgettable Onstage Cameo alongside Sabrina Carpenter

0

In a surprising turn of events, Madonna made a triumphant return to the stage on Friday night, courtesy of a special invitation from Sabrina Carpenter during her second weekend headlining at Coachella.

The legendary 67-year-old pop star joined Carpenter near the end of her performance, commemorating two decades since Madonna’s own unforgettable headlining appearance at the iconic California festival back in 2006.

Carpenter’s set was already a star-studded affair, with numerous exciting cameos preceding Madonna’s grand entrance. Among them was a shirtless Terry Crews, who delighted fans by referencing his memorable role in “White Chicks” and briefly singing Vanessa Carlton’s hit “A Thousand Miles.”

Additionally, actress Geena Davis captivated the audience with a compelling monologue, mirroring the appearance of her “Thelma & Louise” co-star Susan Sarandon during Carpenter’s first weekend at Coachella.

Madonna’s electrifying entrance was heralded by the instrumental beats of her classic 1990 hit “Vogue.” She dramatically emerged from beneath the stage, dazzling in a purple corset paired with matching bottoms, elbow-length gloves, and knee-high boots, delighting fans with her indomitable presence.

The pair performed sections of “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer,” joined by backing vocalists as they moved onto a stage extension in the middle of the crowd.

“Wow, thank you … Sabrina, thank you so much for inviting me on your show,” Madonna said.

“No thanks needed, Madonna,” Carpenter replied, as the two held hands on stage.

“Well, I have a few things I want to get off my chest,” Madonna continued.

“So, 20 years ago today I performed at Coachella. I was in the dance tent, and it was the first time I performed ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor’ part one in America.

“It was such a thrill — and it’s a thrill to be back. It’s a full circle moment, you know? Very meaningful for me.”

She also encouraged the audience to get along with one another, telling the crowd: “Let’s try to be together. Let’s try to avoid disagreements. And to that point, the great thing about music is that it brings people together.

“It’s the one place that people have to put their differences aside, put their s— down and just everybody have a good time together, right? So I am thrilled to be a part of that healing experience.”

Madonna then added, with a grin, that it was probably the first time she had performed with someone “shorter” than her.

The cameo follows her surprise appearance at the festival alongside Drake in 2015, and comes as she prepares to release her upcoming “Confessions II” album later this year after teasing a new track, “I Feel So Free.”

Carpenter, who wore a white lace bodysuit with silver heels, kept a similar setlist to the first weekend while updating her guest lineup.

Last week’s show leaned more heavily on actor cameos, with Sarandon, Will Ferrell, Samuel L. Jackson and Sam Elliott among those appearing.

After that first weekend set, Carpenter was also forced to apologize following backlash over an onstage remark in which she misidentified a fan’s celebratory Arabic call as “yodeling,” prompting criticism online.

Zayn Malik Allegedly Strikes Louis Tomlinson During Series Production

Reports have surfaced suggesting that tensions between former One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson escalated into a physical altercation during the filming of a Netflix road trip show. It’s claimed that Zayn punched Louis, resulting in a head injury, after making a remark about Louis’s late mother.

The duo had reportedly secured a lucrative deal to travel across the United States, revisiting their past experiences from their time in the famous boy band. The project promised to reveal personal insights and share cherished memories with their fans.

However, sources indicate that this anticipated series has been shelved following the incident. According to The Sun, what began as a verbal exchange turned violent when Zayn allegedly struck Louis, leading to a concussion that required medical attention.

Insiders revealed that the confrontation arose when Zayn’s behavior during the shoot shifted unexpectedly, leading to heated arguments. The situation reportedly intensified when Zayn made a comment concerning Louis’s mother, Johannah Deakin, who tragically passed away at the age of 43 in 2016 after a battle with leukemia.

In light of the altercation, it has been noted that Louis’s sisters have unfollowed Zayn on social media, indicating a rift that extends beyond the two former bandmates.

Two of Louis’ five sisters, Phoebe and Lottie, have since unfollowed Zayn on Instagram.

‘Louis was stunned and in shock,’ a source said. ‘As he went to move, Zayn then attacked him. Zayn punched him straight in the face, because he was wearing rings it cut Louis’ head.’

Netflix is said to have axed the multi-million-pound show – which was reportedly set to be produced by Campfire Studios – following the altercation as the pair have reportedly not spoken since the incident occurred six months ago.

The Daily Mail has contacted Netflix, Campfire Studios, and representatives for Zayn and Louis for comment.

Phoebe and her twin sister Daisy previously said who their favourite member of One Direction was – and failed to mention Zayn.

They said: ‘Niall was always the loveliest. And even when we were little, he was just very nice and caring and always cute with us.

‘Liam’s not with us anymore, but he was always that for me. Yeah, so calm. He was so sweet.

‘He would always say hi and he’d remember your name and stuff.’

The twins continued to Luke Hamnett: ‘Whereas the others, not obviously mentioning names, didn’t really even know who you were or remember your name.

‘Liam always took time and came and said hi to our grandparents and little things like that.’

It was reported in January the former One Direction bandmates were believed to have ‘fallen out’ after they reunited for the brand new road trip show.

Sources close to the production revealed the pair were likely to discuss the tragic death of their friend and bandmate Liam Payne in the series.

An insider previously told The Sun of the show: ‘This will be an absolutely huge show for Netflix and is guaranteed to whip 1D’s global army of fans into a frenzy.

‘Although the idea of British boyband members doing a show about travelling across America sounds random, most of them now have strong links Stateside.

‘And it’s likely to be a chance for some serious soul-searching and deep discussions about the incredible journey the group have already been on since they were formed on The X Factor 15 years ago.’

Zayn has lived in America permanently since 2018, while Louis devotes a large part of his time there thanks to his nine-year-old son with stylist Briana Jungwirth.

It comes after it was claimed in 2021 that Zayn assaulted his ex Gigi Hadid’s wife Yolanda during an altercation at the Pennsylvania home he shared with the model.

The former One Direction star pleaded no contest to the charges after allegedly pushing his former partner Gigi’s mother into a dresser and calling her a ‘f*****g Dutch sl*t’ in September 2021.

Court documents revealed that he had to complete 360 days probation in addition to completing an anger management class.

On September 29 2021, Yolanda went to the property Zayn then shared with his ex Gigi Hadid while she was modelling in Paris.

Zayn was there, though it’s unclear if their now two-year-old daughter Khai was. What transpired next is unclear but the pair started arguing and Zayn ‘grabbed Yolanda’ and ‘shoved’ her into a dresser.

He also verbally berated her, screaming: ‘Stay away from [my] f*****g daughter’ and calling Yolanda a ‘f*****g Dutch s**t’.

He is said to have called Gigi in Paris and yelled down the phone to her: ‘Strap on some f*****g balls and defend your partner against your f*****g mother in my house.’

A security guard was present for the exchange, according to the court documents, and Zayn screamed at him: ‘Get the f*** out of my f*****g house copper.’

At another point he referred to fathering Khai with the ‘f*****g sperm that came out of my f*****g c**k’.

Gigi refused to comment in detail on the matter but released a statement at the time through her representative that said: ‘Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.’

Zayn posted a statement on social media that confirmed there was an incident, that he pleaded no contest (although it was unclear at the time that he’d been criminally charged) and that he was trying to protect his daughter.

He denied striking Yolanda, as had been reported by TMZ, citing an unnamed source.

The charges against him comprise murder and interference with commerce through robbery.

Authorities allege that Burkes was responsible for the February shooting that took the life of bar owner Courtney Drysdale.

In February, Kankakee County prosecutors had already filed charges of murder and armed robbery against him.

They said the killing appeared to be targeted.

Burkes pleaded not guilty to the Kankakee County charges and demanded a trial by jury.

Prosecutors said Burkes walked into the Line Bar, demanded money and shot the 30-year-old mother twice in the head.

According to court records, the two once worked together at the bar, when it was owned by someone else.

Burkes was allegedly fired for stealing money from the cash register, which Drysdale reported to the owners.

Burkes was on bond for a previous charge at the time of the shooting.

Ice Spice Involved in McDonald’s Altercation: What Happened with Taylor Swift’s Friend?

0

Ice Spice, who recently rose to stardom as an opening act on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, found herself embroiled in a heated altercation at a McDonald’s in Hollywood this past Wednesday. The rapper, enjoying a casual moment with a female friend in a booth, was unexpectedly approached by an enthusiastic fan named Vayah.

In a video captured by TMZ, Vayah eagerly approached the table, making a gesture that seemed to suggest she was asking Ice Spice’s companion to move over so she could join them. This unexpected intrusion quickly escalated into a tense exchange between Vayah and Ice Spice.

As the conversation grew increasingly hostile, Ice Spice was seen gesturing towards the door, perhaps urging Vayah to leave. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when Vayah struck Ice Spice in the face and continued to lash out, sparking chaos within the fast-food restaurant.

There followed what looked like an increasingly hostile conversation between Vayah and Ice Spice, who gestured in the direction of the door.

The tension boiled over when Vayah struck Ice Spice in the face and then repeatedly swung at her, at which point pandemonium erupted.

In video obtained by the Daily Mail, the fight could be seen to continue outside the restaurant, where Ice Spice was flung to the ground.

When Vayah first struck Ice Spice inside the McDonald’s, the two women started taking swings until a man yanked Vayah away from the melee.

He pulled Vayah towards the exit, but Ice Spice was in hot pursuit, leaping over the tabletops towards them as her friend followed on the floor.

At the door of the McDonald’s, Ice Spice’s friend apparently tried to get between her and Vayah, but a blow from the latter sent her careening into a table.

The friend walked away as a group of people at the door tried to keep Ice Spice and Vayah apart, with cries of: ‘Calm down!’ heard in a male voice on video.

It appeared that Vayah’s associates were able to get her out of the McDonald’s as Ice Spice stayed inside with her own friend, briefly ending the fight.

Ice Spice picked up a phone lying on the tiles and walked back to her booth, where she talked to a male McDonald’s customer who had witnessed the scrap.

The phone that Ice Spice had picked up was apparently not hers, so the fracas resumed when she walked to the door of the McDonald’s and – rather than returning it to the owner’s hands – hurled it outside.

Someone apparently asked her why she had thrown the phone and she replied: ‘Cause f*** y’all, that’s why. F*** you and that b****.’

The argument continued as Ice Spice and her friend emerged from the restaurant, where the Princess Diana hitmaker launched into a shouting match with one of the men in Vayah’s group, in footage obtained by the Daily Mail.

When someone urged Ice Spice to ‘relax,’ she snapped: ‘Why would I relax when she’s touching me?’ and then repeatedly demanded: ‘Where is she?’

At some point later on, Vayah and her group were in the middle of the street along with Ice Spice and her friend, and the shouting continued.

The exchange escalated to into a physical fight between the two women yet again, with Vayah knocking Ice Spice to the ground.

From Protégé to Power: How Hungary’s New Leader Dethroned Orbán in a Political Upset

0

Péter Magyar, a name that was once unfamiliar to many, has suddenly emerged as Hungary’s most influential political figure. In a dramatic turn of events, this 44-year-old lawyer, previously embedded within the corridors of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s party, has risen to the pinnacle of Hungarian politics.

Magyar’s ascent to power was cemented through a decisive victory in Hungary’s 2026 elections, a result that not only ended Orbán’s 16-year reign but also sent shockwaves across Europe. With a fresh approach and a promise of change, Magyar captivated a nation eager for new leadership.

Expressing his gratitude to supporters, Magyar took to social media, writing, “Thank you to every Hungarian at home and around the world! It is an immense honor that you have empowered us to form a government with the most votes ever received, and to work for the next four years for a free, European, functioning, and humane Hungary.” His message resonated deeply with a populace yearning for progress and unity.

As Péter Magyar steps into his new role, all eyes are on him to understand the vision and direction he will chart for Hungary. Here’s a closer look at the man poised to lead the nation into a new era.

He grew up admiring Viktor Orbán

Magyar was born in 1981 in Budapest, Hungary, into a family of lawyers. He was just nine years old when communism collapsed in Hungary and the country held its first democratic elections.

As a child, he idolized Orbán, who at the time was a young anti-Communist activist demanding that Soviet troops leave Hungary. Magyar has said he kept a photo of Orbán on his bedroom wall, Reuters reported.

That early admiration makes his rise all the more remarkable: the boy who once saw Orbán as a hero ultimately became the politician who ended his rule.

He comes from the same political world

Before becoming Orbán’s biggest challenger, Magyar was part of the same Hungarian political establishment.

He spent years inside Orbán’s conservative Fidesz movement and worked in positions connected to the Hungarian state. Because of that background, analysts say Magyar understands the system from the inside.

“He’s an insider,” said Helena Ivanov, an associate research fellow at the Henry Jackson Society (HJS), a London-based foreign policy think tank. “He knows and understands the inside out of the Hungarian political system.”

That insider status, she added, was “exceptionally important” to his success.

He studied law and worked in government

Like many members of Hungary’s political elite, Magyar trained as a lawyer.

After studying law, he entered public service. When his then-wife took a position in Brussels, Magyar joined Hungary’s diplomatic corps and worked on European Union legislation.

After returning to Hungary, he held senior positions at a state-owned bank and later ran Hungary’s student loan agency.

His background gave him experience in both Brussels and the Hungarian bureaucracy, helping him position himself as a bridge between Hungary and the European Union.

His marriage made him part of Orbán’s inner circle

Magyar married Judit Varga in 2006. Varga later became one of Orbán’s most prominent ministers and served as Hungary’s justice minister.

For years, that marriage placed Magyar close to the center of power in Hungary.

The couple had three sons, but their marriage eventually broke down. They divorced in 2023, shortly before Magyar launched his political rebellion.

He broke with Orbán after a major scandal

Magyar’s political transformation began after a scandal that rocked Hungary in 2024.

Varga resigned after public outrage over a pardon linked to a child sexual abuse case. The scandal opened a rare crack in Orbán’s government.

Magyar publicly broke with Fidesz, accusing the government of corruption and propaganda.

For Ivanov, that moment was decisive.

“The key breakdown was the fact that Orbán’s government participated in a cover-up … and that ultimately led him to start his own political campaign,” she said.

He became an instant political star

Until 2024, most Hungarians had barely heard of Magyar.

Then he gave a high-profile interview and launched a new political movement. Within months, he transformed himself into the face of Hungary’s opposition.

His Tisza Party won 30% in the 2024 European elections, before defeating Fidesz nationally less than two years later.

Ivanov said his rapid rise came down to strategy.

“He was able to capture the hearts and minds of the Hungarian people by focusing … on the internal issues that were their key grievances,” she said.

He is more pro-European than Orbán, but still conservative

Magyar is not a traditional liberal politician.

Like Orbán, he opposes illegal immigration, supports Hungary’s border fence and rejects European Union migrant quotas.

“When it comes to immigration, I’m not really that sure that we’re going to see much of a change,” Ivanov told Fox News Digital. “Magyar so far has made it clear that the fence originally built by Orbán will stay in place. He has said that he is not going to support the EU migration pact.”

“So that’s one thing where we may possibly see some continuity, or at least some overlap, between Magyar and Orbán,” she added. “But … bringing the country back to a stable democracy is one of the key priorities that Magyar has.”

But unlike Orbán, he has pledged to rebuild ties with the European Union and unlock frozen EU funds.

Ivanov said the shift could be significant, especially after years of deteriorating relations with Brussels.

“He has promised to rebuild the relationship between the European Union and Hungary,” she said.

Still, she cautioned that tensions may remain, particularly over Russia and Ukraine policy.

Religion and family are central to his image

Magyar describes himself as religious and often emphasizes family life.

He has said he enjoys cooking and playing soccer with his sons.

That image has helped him appeal to conservative voters who were disillusioned with Orbán but not ready to support a left-wing alternative.

He won by campaigning differently

Magyar built his victory through a grassroots campaign. He focused on corruption, cost of living and frustration after 16 years under one leader.

Because Orbán’s allies controlled much of Hungary’s media, he relied heavily on social media, rural outreach and direct voter engagement.

Ivanov said that approach was not just strategic, but necessary.

“The control that Orbán had over the media meant Magyar had to directly engage with the people,” she said.

Ivanov noted that Magyar did not appear on state television for 18 months. His first appearance came only after his victory, during what she described as “a very heated conversation” in which he accused Hungarian state media of carrying out “North Korean-style propaganda” under Orbán.

Now, after years as an insider and barely two years as an opposition figure, Magyar is preparing to take power.

Magyar has already signaled that he intends to move quickly against officials tied to the old system.

In a post on X on Wednesday, he said he had arrived at the presidential palace to meet Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok.

“Tamás Sulyok is unworthy of representing the unity of the Hungarian nation,” Magyar wrote. “He is unfit to serve as the guardian of legality. He is not fit to serve as a moral authority or a role model.”

“Following the formation of the new government, Tamás Sulyok must leave office immediately.”

Hungary-Election-Debate

Ivanov called the result “a huge victory for democracy,” but said that reversing years of institutional control “is not going to be an easy process … likely a years-long process.”

Trump Set to Authorize Order Facilitating Access to Psychedelic Drug for PTSD Treatment

0

President Donald Trump is reportedly on the verge of signing a new executive order aimed at boosting research into psychedelic drugs as potential treatments for mental health conditions. This initiative could eventually lead to the regulated use of these substances in controlled settings.

Insiders have indicated that the President is actively engaged in discussions to shape the order, which would establish fresh guidelines for medical studies involving substances like psilocybin and ibogaine. This information was shared by several sources with The Washington Post.

During a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump hinted at a significant announcement he plans to reveal on Saturday morning, emphasizing his strong personal interest in the subject.

He described the forthcoming news as a ‘very positive thing’ and mentioned that he would be accompanied by someone he regards as ‘very good, very smart, very caring’ to deliver the announcement.

Initial reports from CBS News highlighted that the executive order aims to facilitate federal funding to explore ibogaine’s potential in treating post-traumatic stress disorder and brain injuries.

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive from the root of a shrub native to Central Africa.

The drug is classified as a Schedule I substance by the Drug Enforcement Administration, meaning there are no accepted medical uses for it and a high potential for abuse.

Schedule I drugs also include drugs like heroin and ecstasy (methylenedioxymethamphetamine).

Drug classifications are sectioned into five different ‘schedules,’ with one being the highest potential for abuse.

Ibogaine is unregulated in countries including Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany and Canada.

The drug has gained popularity in recent years and generated the attention of medical professionals.

Stanford Medicine released a study in 2024, concluding that ibogaine effectively treated military veterans with traumatic brain injuries.

The study found that when combined with magnesium to protect the heart, the drug safely and effectively reduced PTSD, anxiety and depression.

‘No other drug has ever been able to alleviate the functional and neuropsychiatric symptoms of traumatic brain injury,’ said Nolan Williams, an associate professor of behavioral sciences and psychiatry.

‘The results are dramatic, and we intend to study this compound further.’

Trump’s looming executive order could pave the way for future studies to explore ibogaine’s effectiveness.

The potential move would be a win for advocacy groups who have lobbied for years to achieve alternative pathways to mental health therapy.

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry helped launch the nonprofit, Americans for Ibogaine, last year to advance education, clinical research and responsible medical access to the drug.

Perry also served as the Energy Secretary under Trump’s first administration. He appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience last month with the nonprofit’s CEO, W. Bryan Hubbard, to advocate for ibogaine.

Amber Capone, the CEO and founder of Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions, told Reuters that the news of increased access to ibogaine marked a ‘huge sigh of relief.’

‘There’s no doubt whatsoever in our minds that it works,’ she said.

‘But we just can’t say, “Believe us.” The research has to corroborate what we know to be true, and it feels like we could finally, finally be making some impact.’

Trump has previously implemented legislation in support of loosening federal restrictions on drugs.

He signed an executive order in December, paving the way for medical applications of marijuana and CBD products.

Devastating Russian Missile and Drone Assault Claims 16 Lives in Prolonged Attack on Ukraine

In a devastating assault that spanned several hours, Russia launched a barrage of hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles against civilian areas in Ukraine, leaving at least 16 people dead and injuring over 80 others. The attack, which extended from daylight into the night, caused widespread fear and destruction as residents sought shelter, officials reported on Thursday.

This series of strikes marked Russia’s most intense aerial offensive in nearly two weeks, with authorities indicating that nearly 700 drones and numerous ballistic and cruise missiles were deployed, primarily targeting civilian populations.

Among those caught in the chaos was Tetiana Sokol, a 54-year-old resident of Kyiv. She recounted the terror of two missile strikes that hit close to her home, forcing her to seek refuge in a hallway with her dog as the sky was illuminated by the blasts and windows shattered around her.

“On the third attack, everything broke, everything flew,” Sokol recalled. “We were shocked, we didn’t know where to run. I grabbed whatever came to hand and ran away with the dog.” She shared her ongoing distress, explaining, “I still can’t find the cats in the house, they climbed out somewhere, I don’t even know. No windows, nothing, the dog is still walking around in stress.”

As firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish blazes in the aftermath of the strikes, the impact of the attack was evident across Kyiv. The assault underscored the escalating intensity of the conflict, with civilian areas bearing the brunt of the violence. The chilling scenes were captured and shared widely, offering a stark reminder of the human toll of the ongoing hostilities.

Moscow’s forces have hit civilian areas almost daily since its all-out invasion of its neighbor more than four years ago, with the regular assaults occasionally punctuated by massive attacks. More than 15,000 Ukrainian civilians have died in the strikes, the United Nations says.

Zelenskyy on a mission to improve air defenses

The latest bombardment came in the wake of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s 48-hour trip this week to Germany, Norway and Italy in an urgent search for more air defense systems that can stop Russian missiles.

Ukraine has developed a significant domestic arms industry, especially in the production of drones and missiles, but it can’t yet match the sophistication of U.S. Patriot air defense systems. Ukraine’s top diplomatic priority is securing allies’ help to buy and build more and better air defenses, Zelenskyy said this week.

Cash-strapped Ukraine also needs the speedy disbursement of a promised loan from the European Union of 90 billion euros ($106 billion) that has been blocked by Hungary.

Ukraine fears the Iran war is burning through stockpiles of the advanced American-made systems it needs, and has argued against a U.S. temporary waiver on Russian oil sanctions that Kyiv says is helping finance the Kremlin’s war effort.

“Another night has proven that Russia does not deserve any easing of global policy or lifting of sanctions,” Zelenskyy said on X.

He thanked Germany, Norway and Italy for new agreements this week on supporting Ukraine’s air defense. Officials are also working with the Netherlands on additional supplies, he said.

At the same time, he noted that some partner countries haven’t followed through on pledges of military support.

“I have instructed the Commander of the Air Force to contact those partners who earlier committed to providing missiles for Patriot and other systems,” Zelenskyy said.

Other areas of Ukraine and Russia were also hit

The bombardment was the biggest in weeks. Last month, Russia fired 948 drones and 34 missiles in the space of 24 hours in the largest assault of the war on civilian areas.

At least four people were killed overnight in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old, with more than 50 others injured, according to authorities. Officials said the attack damaged 17 apartment buildings, 10 private homes, as well as a hotel, office center, car dealership, gas station and a shopping mall in the capital.

Nine people were killed and 23 injured in the southern port city of Odesa, three women were killed and around three dozen injured in the central Dnipro region, and one person was killed in Zaporizhzhia in the south.

“Such attacks cannot be normalized. These are war crimes that must be stopped and their perpetrators held to account,” Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on X.

Ukraine’s air force said air defenses shot down or disabled 667 out of 703 incoming targets, including 636 Shahed-type drones and other uncrewed aerial vehicles.

It said 20 strike drones and 12 missiles hit 26 locations.

Meanwhile, in Russia, Krasnodar regional Gov. Veniamin Kondratyev reported that a 14-year-old girl and a woman were killed in Ukrainian strikes in the Black Sea port of Tuapse.

He said that the attacks damaged six apartment buildings, 24 private houses and three schools. Drone fragments also fell near the port of Tuapse.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said that its air defenses downed 207 Ukrainian drones overnight.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry City Celebrates Premier League Return After 25 Years with Thrilling Late Goal at Blackburn

In a dramatic turn of events, Coventry City has clinched a long-awaited return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence, thanks to a crucial equalizer by defender Bobby Thomas in the 84th minute against Blackburn Rovers.

Frank Lampard’s squad entered the match knowing that a single point would suffice to secure promotion. However, for much of the intense evening at Ewood Park, it seemed as though the celebrations would have to wait, as Blackburn took the lead with a goal from Ryoya Morishita.

Thomas, who had earlier been involved in the deflection that led to Blackburn’s score, heroically redeemed himself with a decisive header. This goal not only secured a critical draw but also ignited jubilation among the 7,500 traveling Coventry fans, who passionately chanted his name and continued to celebrate well into the night.

In an emotional post-match interview, Lampard expressed his pride, saying, “Achieving promotion with a club that lacks parachute payments is truly special. Seeing the joy it brings to the players and fans is incredibly moving. They deserve every moment of this celebration.”

He continued, “I’m immensely proud of the team and the staff. We ventured into uncertain territory and have grown attached to these players and our supporters. This achievement ranks alongside my greatest successes, including winning Champions Leagues with Chelsea.”

‘But here we’re overachieving. Automatic promotion wasn’t in our plan.’

It has been a turbulent couple of decades for the Sky Blues, who were a League Two team as recent as 2018.

They have had four stadiums since leaving Highfield Road in 2005 and at one stage they were playing 34 miles away at Northampton’s Sixfields Stadium.

That was because Coventry’s owners, SISU Capital, were in a rent dispute with the local council, who owned their stadium, then called the Ricoh Arena. Attendances plunged to below 2,000 and some would watch the action from a hill overlooking Sixfields in protest.

Coventry lost tens of millions of pounds during SISU’s tenure between 2007 and 2023.

But the club’s fortunes have turned around since Doug King, who completed a majority takeover of the club in January 2023 and immediately cleared all of their debts.

He then bought the club’s stadium from Mike Ashley for £50million last August, ending any anxiety about their long-term future. Their deal at the CBS Arena had been due to expire at the end of the 2027-28 season.

King couldn’t offer firm reassurances of Lampard’s future, simply said afterwards: ‘Frank has done an unbelievable job. He put himself in the Arena in November 2024 and didn’t know how it would go. He liked the project. Look what he’s done. ‘He’s a very talented head coach, he’s articulate, intelligent, smart. He’s learned a lot with us and I’ve learned from him. Hopefully that continues.’

The long-term thinking can wait for another day, though. King was in the dressing room at full time, getting soaked in champagne as the players danced around.

In recent years they have been the Championship’s nearlymen, losing the 2023 play-off final on penalties to Luton and being dumped out by Sunderland in the semi-finals last season.

Now their tears are tears of joy. They arrived in a boisterous mood and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth was made to pop a gigantic balloon which had been launched onto the pitch just after kick-off.

But the hosts were in no mood to roll out the red carpet and nearly took the lead early on when Yuki Ohashi ghosted in behind the Coventry backline and almost nipped a header past Rushworth.

Blackburn created the better chances in the first half but only got their reward after the break, when Morishita’s shot deflected off Thomas and into the Coventry net.

Morishita celebrated wildly – a draw puts Blackburn five points clear of the bottom three – while Lampard’s face turned to stone.

The Chelsea legend threw on a fearsome trio in top scorer Haji Wright, Victor Torp, and Romain Esse, but it seemed that nobody could beat Rovers stopper Balasz Toth.

Jack Rudoni, Lampard’s attacking midfield protege, chipped an effort onto the roof netting and smashed a header against the bar. Wright dragged a limp volley into Toth’s arms.

It looked like it wasn’t going to happen for the league leaders – until their 26th set-piece goal of the season uncorked the ecstasy. From a free-kick Thomas rose above the crowd to head past Toth and write his name into Coventry history.

‘It was perfect,’ he reflected. After a quarter-century wait, indeed it was. Coventry’s players paraded around the pitch as heroes, and by the time they were partying in the dressing room, they were on their way to being club legends.
