Former Hinsdale Central Lacrosse Coach Alex Buetikofer Faces Charges in Student Allegation Case

0

A troubling case has emerged in Hinsdale, Illinois, involving a former high school lacrosse coach who is now facing serious legal charges. Allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student from another district have led to the arrest of 38-year-old Alex Buetikofer, a resident of Lisle.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Buetikofer was apprehended by Joliet police on Saturday. He is currently facing multiple charges, including grooming, solicitation to meet a child, a sexual offense of traveling to meet a minor, and aggravated battery.

In light of these developments, Dr. Michal Lach, Superintendent of District 86, reached out to families with a letter over the weekend. The correspondence revealed that the district became aware of the allegations against Buetikofer, who was an assistant boys lacrosse coach at Hinsdale Central High School, on March 18. The accusations pertain to his previous tenure as a teacher in another Illinois school district.

Upon learning of the allegations, District 86 acted promptly to ensure student safety, ending all ties with Buetikofer by March 19. His formal termination followed shortly after, on March 26.

Superintendent Lach assured the community that, at present, there is no indication that students from Hinsdale Central are involved in the allegations. Nevertheless, the district is fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities as the investigation unfolds.

Further information was not immediately available.

UK Chief Rabbi Condemns Escalating Anti-Semitic Violence Amid Surge in Targeted Attacks

0

British counterterrorism police are currently investigating a series of arson attacks on Jewish sites in London, with suspicions that these incidents may be linked to Iranian proxies. The concern comes as a chief rabbi notes an alarming increase in such attacks.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that specialized counterterrorism officers are looking into fires that have occurred at synagogues, Jewish community centers, and a Persian-language media outlet known for its criticism of the Iranian regime.

The most recent attack took place on Saturday night, causing minor damage to a synagogue in north London. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in any of the incidents, which have all occurred within a close radius of each other.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans stated that investigators are considering the claims made by a group calling itself Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, which translates to the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right. This group has reportedly claimed responsibility for several of the attacks.

“We are aware of public reporting that suggests this group may have links to Iran. As you would expect, we will continue to explore that question as our investigation evolves,” she said.

“I’ve spoken previously about the Iranian regime’s use of criminal proxies, and we’re considering whether this tactic is being used here in London,” Evans added.

Authorities say the group — which Israel has described as a possible Iranian proxy — has also claimed synagogue attacks in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Police have flooded northwest London with additional officers after a series of incidents in recent weeks, including the torching of four Jewish charity ambulances in the Golders Green neighborhood on March 23.

Several suspects, ranging from teenagers to people in their 40s, have already been arrested and charged.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis warned on X that “a sustained campaign of violence and intimidation against the Jewish community of the UK is gathering momentum.”

“Thank God, no lives have been lost, but we cannot, and must not, wait for that to change before we understand just how dangerous this moment is for all of our society,” he added.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence, calling the attacks “abhorrent” and vowing those responsible “will be found and brought to justice.”

The threat level rose further after the group released a video claiming it would target Israel’s embassy in London with drones carrying hazardous substances. Police shut down nearby Kensington Gardens while investigating suspicious items but said no dangerous materials were found.

British officials have long warned that Iran uses criminal networks to carry out attacks in Europe. MI5 says it disrupted more than 20 potentially lethal Iran-linked plots in the past year.

Police issued a blunt warning to any “thugs for hire” involved in such attacks.

“Let’s be really clear — it’s a mug’s game,” said Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes. “That’s what people who are now serving long prison sentences have found out, and the same fate awaits those responsible for these recent crimes.”

Investigators say the probe remains ongoing as authorities work to determine whether the attacks are part of a coordinated foreign-backed campaign.

Shocking DOJ Report: Man’s Disturbing Threat to Feed Trump to Stray Dogs Uncovered

A man from Kentucky, identified as Kadrioan Santiago, stands accused of issuing violent threats against President Donald Trump and other individuals, while amassing a collection of firearms and tactical gear. Federal prosecutors disclosed these allegations, highlighting the severity of the threats made by the 23-year-old resident of Berea.

Santiago faces charges of making interstate threatening communications, with his targets reportedly including Trump, ICE agents, and others. Details of his threats are outlined in a criminal complaint, which Law&Crime obtained, and further elaborated in a press release from the U.S. Justice Department.

According to the Department of Justice, Santiago, using the Instagram handle ‘kadi_skating,’ posted a series of alarming threats between January and March of 2026. These threats included graphic intentions against President Trump, such as cutting his face with a razor and feeding it to stray dogs. Additionally, Santiago expressed desires to harm law enforcement and urged others to take similar actions against ICE agents.

The complaint further reveals Santiago’s claim of being driven by political violence, stating in January 2026 that “no one is spared” from his intended wrath. He also shared a chilling message on March 2, advocating extreme violence, saying, “STUFF A GRENADE IN THEIR AHH AND BLOW IT UP,” while expressing a willingness to defend queer rights through violent means.

“STUFF A GRENADE IN THEIR AHH AND BLOW IT UP,” he said in a March 2 post, according to the complaint. “I’ll defend your queer rights with my guns.”

Taking aim at the president, Santiago wrote, “DEATH TO TRUMP” and warned that “@potus better never let me get my hands on you,” per the complaint.

“I will actually drag a razor blade down your face and slip it under your skin and pull your skin off, cook it and feed it to some stray dogs,” Santiago allegedly said in a March 27 post.

Other alleged threats included, “Death to the American nazi regime” and “the american people NEED to start shooting at the necks, legs, and arms of ICE agents.”

Prosecutors say the FBI “received information” about Santiago’s “politically violent threats” and launched an investigation on April 3. The young man had been posting videos and photos online of weapons and ammunition he compiled, including footage put up on Instagram as recently as March 23 and March 24.

“Registered car, unregistered firearms,” Santiago said in a March 23 post that showed an image of an “assault firearm” resting on a person’s lap that is believed to be him, according to the complaint.

Santiago was arrested by deputies with the Garrard County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop on April 14. An arsenal was found on him that included a “handgun, an AR-15-style rifle, an additional long gun, multiple magazines, a Kevlar helmet, gas masks, and various survival gear,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“The nature of these federal charges, combined with the weapons and tactical gear located, is extremely alarming,” said Garrard County Sheriff Willie Skeens in a statement. “Fortunately, nobody was injured during this arrest.”

Santiago is due to appear in court Monday for a detention and preliminary hearing.

“To those who choose to hide behind the anonymity of a screen to unleash threats against the President of the United States, other government officials, and law enforcement, the FBI will find you” said Olivia Olson, FBI special agent in charge for the Louisville Field Office. “It is against the law to post threatening communications online, and the FBI and our partners will use every available resource to identify, locate, and arrest those who choose to do so.”

Tragic Accident Claims Life of Pedestrian Attempting to Navigate Four-Lane Traffic in Perth

0

Tragedy struck in Perth’s southern suburb of Hamilton Hill when a 31-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a car. The incident unfolded last night, around 9:15 PM, as the man attempted to cross Rockingham Road, accompanied by his dog.

The accident led to the closure of four lanes of traffic, as authorities worked to manage the scene in the wake of the fatal collision. Witnesses in the vicinity were visibly shaken by the event, with one bystander, Harvey, recounting the harrowing moment. “I actually saw the person who was running across the road flying up into the air,” Harvey shared, describing the distressing scene that unfolded before him. “That was a traumatizing image, you know. It sticks in your brain.”

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers pedestrians face on busy roads, and the indelible impact such accidents leave on witnesses and the community.

“I actually saw the person who was running across the road flying up into the air,” witness Harvey said.

” … That was a traumatising image, you know. It sticks in your brain.”

A silver Toyota Corolla travelling south hit the man as he crossed.

The driver and others, including an off-duty nurse and several medical students, stopped to help.

“He did a sprint, across the road at the wrong moment. He probably thought he could make it,” Harvey said.

The man was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital where he later died.

Major crash detectives closed the road for several hours.

Residents say the stretch of Rockingham Road is notorious, leaving some too scared to turn out of their driveways, because trying to get across four lanes of traffic is too dangerous.

It’s not the first time an accident has happened here.

“This corner has had a lot of accidents here, our house has been hit before, and our neighbour had someone actually go through the front of her house,” resident Marnie said.

The 32-year-old was assisting police but no charges had been laid.

The Hidden Dangers of Reunions: Navigating Unexpected Challenges and Tough Decisions

0

Jane Brown had always felt a lingering sense of incompleteness throughout her life.

Adopted as an infant and growing up as the sole child in her family, she often perceived her relationships as lacking, as if she were on an endless quest for a connection that eluded her.

In her late twenties, Jane’s reunion with her birth mother and siblings offered some solace, yet it failed to close the gap entirely.

It wasn’t until her late forties, when she discovered her birth father and met her half-brother, that her life took an unexpectedly transformative turn.

The connection with her half-brother was instant and profound, unlike anything Jane had ever experienced before.

There was an ease to it, a sense of deep familiarity and recognition that felt both natural and overwhelming.

‘Our connection was just easy – I felt seen by him,’ said Jane, whose name has been changed to protect her identity. ‘I had found the missing piece.’

But alongside the joy of that discovery came something far more complicated and destabilizing – a fierce and unwanted physical attraction that Jane could not contain or explain.

Victoria Hill, 41, a married mom-of-two, has been on an emotional rollercoaster since she used an at-home DNA kit in 2020

‘I was struggling with a feeling of really wanting to be close to him – in a physical way,’ she said.

Jane declined to describe exactly how far the relationship went, calling it natural but also deeply unsettling and one that brought profound feelings of shame to them both.

For the clinicians who have studied cases like hers, it was a textbook example of what is known as genetic sexual attraction, or GSA.

It describes the intense romantic or sexual feelings that can arise between close biological relatives such as siblings or parent and child who meet for the first time as adults.

It is thought to be extremely rare – in fact, some experts contest the concept entirely.

But it has been reported across different cultures and usually occurs in adoption reunions, where those involved did not grow up together and never developed the natural psychological barrier that prevents attraction between family members, known as the Westermarck effect.

When relatives are separated at birth or in infancy and reconnect in adulthood, that biological mechanism never forms – leaving them, in neurological terms, as strangers who happen to share DNA.

Such relationships are universally taboo, and in the case of sexual contact, illegal in all 50 US states regardless of whether those involved were raised together.

That means those affected rarely come forward.

When Jane confided in a close friend about her own experience, the reaction was immediate and crushing – strongly negative, leaving her feeling isolated and ashamed.

But she learned to reframe their bond as a deep and committed friendship of enduring emotional intensity.

Jane revealed they remain in regular contact and support one another as they work to establish boundaries and pursue conventional relationships elsewhere.

Jane shared her story with Adoptees On, an award-nominated podcast where adult adoptees share frank stories about how adoption affected their lives.

Its founder Haley Radke, a Canadian who reunited with her birth parents in her twenties, launched the podcast in 2016 and it has had more than 1.5 million downloads.

Radke told the Daily Mail that after releasing episodes featuring adoptees who experienced GSA, she said she received a wave of private messages from listeners sharing similar stories.

‘It was more common than I anticipated when I went into researching it. It’s so taboo that most people never talk about it,’ Radke said, describing an issue that often remains hidden, even within the adoptee community.

She does not see it as deviant, but rather as a misdirected form of curiosity, longing, and the desire for connection.

‘When you meet someone who has some kind of similarity to you… it’s what you’ve wanted your whole life,’ she said.

‘I think that it’s just kind of this offshoot of misdirected curiosity and attraction and hope for closeness.’

But GSA is even more uncomfortable when it affects parents and their biological children.

Sophia, who was adopted at birth and raised in California, finally met her biological parents at 21.

But within weeks of meeting her father, Sophia found herself grappling with overwhelming and confusing feelings toward her father, despite her being gay.

‘It was like our hearts just matched,’ she said, describing a bond she calls both ‘openhearted’ and ‘otherworldly,’ amplified by eerie similarities in their personalities, shared trauma and parallel struggles with addiction.

‘I felt like I was falling in love with the man of my dreams… and it was my father,’ said Sophia, using an alias to protect her identity.

‘I wanted to go off and have a child with him – and I knew that was entirely unrealistic,’ she told the podcast.

The emotional whirlwind soon collided with reality and Sophia found others with similar experiences and never acted on her desires.

But some do.

Monica Mares and Caleb Peterson, from New Mexico, are among a tiny number of parent-child couples to go public about their romance.

Mares had Peterson at 16 and placed her son – who was then named Carlos – up for adoption.

They reconnected on Facebook roughly 18 years later, quickly developed romantic feelings and began a sexual relationship that resulted in third-degree felony incest convictions.

Kim West and her biological son Ben Ford from Michigan also made international headlines in 2016 after reportedly reuniting after three decades apart and entering into a sexual relationship.

The Daily Mail tried to contact both couples, but they appeared to have stopped sharing about their personal lives.

GSA is 'so taboo that most people never talk about it,' says Haley Radke, host of the Adoptees On podcast

GSA is ‘so taboo that most people never talk about it,’ says Haley Radke, host of the Adoptees On podcast

Radke’s advice to adoptees is to seek support before reconnecting, warning that reunions can be emotionally intense and unpredictable.

‘Preparedness is the best advice I can give. If you’re picturing that Hallmark airport reunion, it’s not always like that,’ she said.

‘Just because you make first contact doesn’t mean you’re going to get the reunion of your dream.’

Experts warn GSA could become more common due to the rise in at-home DNA tests like 23andMe and AncestryDNA.

These tests do not merely reveal ancestral origins, they identify siblings, parents and cousins and allow users to contact them instantly.

As of 2025, roughly one in five Americans – around 60 million – has taken a consumer DNA test.

Betsie Norris, 65, an adoptee who reunited with her own birth family in 1986 and went on to found the Adoption Network Cleveland, described the advent of at-home DNA testing as a ‘complete gamechanger.’

‘People are finding each other left and right,’ Norris told the Daily Mail.

She sees it as a net positive overall – but one that has also opened what she calls a ‘Pandora’s box’ of family secrets for millions of unsuspecting people.

Reunions can carry the emotional rush of ‘new relationship energy,’ mirroring the dizzying highs of romantic infatuation, she said.

Usually the root is not sexual desire – it’s something deeper: a long-buried hunger for connection, identity, and belonging, easily mistaken for romance.

That’s where the danger lies. For therapists, the challenge is not denying these feelings, but managing them before they spiral.

Victoria Hill of southern Connecticut was 35 when an at-home DNA test revealed that her ex-boyfriend was actually her half-brother.

‘I instantly gravitated towards him,’ Victoria, now 41 and a married mother of two, previously told the Daily Mail.

The emotional fallout has been profound and ongoing.

‘Those feelings were present before we knew this information,’ she said, ‘and they don’t just go away.’

She described the experience as surreal, marked by cognitive dissonance and deeply difficult to navigate.

‘We have to figure out how to turn that into a sibling sort of love,’ she said. ‘But we both struggle with it.’

It is a struggle, experts say, that is only going to become more familiar as DNA databases grow, reunions multiply, and the full human consequences of the testing boom continue to unfold.

U.S. Detains Iranian Cargo Ship Attempting to Navigate Blockade Near Strait of Hormuz, Trump Announces

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump announced that the United States has seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship attempting to bypass a naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. This marks the first such interception since the blockade of Iranian ports commenced last week.

In a social media post, Trump detailed that the U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer in the Gulf of Oman issued a warning to the ship, but it was ignored. Consequently, the Navy took action by disabling the ship with a strike to its engine room. U.S. Marines have since taken control of the vessel, named Touska, and are currently inspecting its contents.

Iran has yet to issue an official response to the incident. This development has cast doubt on Trump’s previous announcement that U.S. negotiators were scheduled to travel to Pakistan on Monday for renewed talks with Iran.

These negotiations had sparked optimism about possibly extending a delicate ceasefire due to expire on Wednesday, despite the ongoing tension over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Although Iran has not confirmed its participation in the talks, its chief negotiator and parliament speaker, Mohammed Bagher Qalibaf, stated in a television interview aired late Saturday that Iran remains firm in its diplomatic efforts. However, he admitted that significant differences persist between the two sides.

Host Pakistan also did not confirm a second round, but authorities began tightening security in Islamabad. A regional official involved in the efforts said mediators were finalizing preparations and U.S. advance security teams were on the ground. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss preparations with the media.

The White House said Vice President JD Vance, who led the first round of historic face-to-face talks over 21 hours last weekend, would lead the U.S. delegation to Pakistan with envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Iran on Saturday said it had received new proposals from the United States. It was unclear whether either side had shifted stances on issues that derailed the last round of negotiations, including Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, its regional proxies and control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump’s announcement repeated his threats against Iranian infrastructure that have drawn widespread criticism and warnings of war crimes. If Iran doesn’t agree to the U.S.-proposed deal, “the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran,” he wrote.

Iran says transits of the Strait of Hormuz are ‘impossible’

Ships remain unable to transit the critical waterway amid threats from Iran and a U.S. blockade on ships heading to and from Iranian ports. Hundreds of vessels were waiting at each end for clearance.

One of the worst global energy crises in decades threatened to deepen. Roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil trade normally passes through the strait, along with critical supplies of fertilizer for the world’s farmers, natural gas and humanitarian supplies for places in dire need like Afghanistan and Sudan.

Iranian officials earlier on Sunday held firm that ships wouldn’t pass while the U.S. blockade remained in effect. “It is impossible for others to pass through the Strait of Hormuz while we cannot,” Qalibaf said.

In his post about talks, Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by firing at ships transiting the strait. Iran has called the U.S. blockade a violation, and foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei on Sunday called it an “act of aggression.”

Iran had announced the strait’s reopening after a 10-day truce between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon took hold on Friday. But Iran said it would continue enforcing its restrictions there after Trump said the U.S. blockade “will remain in full force” until Tehran reaches a deal with the United States.

After a brief uptick in transit attempts on Saturday, Iran fired on two Indian-flagged merchant ships that were forced to turn around, leading India to summon Iran’s ambassador over the “serious incident.” India noted that Iran earlier let several India-bound ships through.

For the Islamic Republic, the strait’s closure — imposed after the U.S. and Israel launched the Iran war on Feb. 28 during talks over Tehran’s nuclear program — is perhaps its most powerful weapon, inflicting political pain on Trump. For the United States, the blockade squeezes Iran’s already weakened economy by denying it long-term cash flow.

The war — now in its eighth week — has killed at least 3,000 people in Iran, more than 2,290 in Lebanon, 23 in Israel and more than a dozen in Gulf Arab states. Fifteen Israeli soldiers in Lebanon and 13 U.S. service members throughout the region have been killed.

Since most supplies to U.S. military bases in the Gulf region come through the strait, “Iran is determined to maintain oversight and control over traffic through the strait until the war fully ends,” Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said late Saturday. That means Iran-designated routes, payment of fees and issuance of transit certificates.

The council has recently acted as Iran’s de facto top decision-making body.

Pakistan presses on diplomacy and Iran issues a warning

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who spoke by phone with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday, has said his country is working to “bridge” differences between the U.S. and Iran.

Pakistan later said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke by phone for 45 minutes with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on Saturday told The Associated Press that the U.S. is “risking the whole ceasefire package” with its blockade.

Khatibzadeh said Iran won’t hand over its stock of 970 pounds (440 kilograms) of enriched uranium to the United States, calling the idea “a nonstarter.” The deputy minister didn’t address other proposals for the enriched uranium, saying only that “we are ready to address any concerns.”

Woodland Hills Woman Arrested at LAX for Alleged Iranian Arms Trafficking: A Shocking Development

0

A Los Angeles woman was taken into custody on Saturday night at Los Angeles International Airport, accused of aiding Iran in trafficking weapons to Sudan amid its ongoing civil war. Federal prosecutors revealed this development concerning 44-year-old Shamim Mafi, who faces allegations related to facilitating the sale of military equipment, including drones, bombs, bomb fuses, and vast amounts of ammunition, to the Sudanese Armed Forces.

First U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli shared these charges via social media on Sunday, highlighting the serious implications of such activities in a conflict-ridden region. Efforts to reach Mafi for comment have been unsuccessful, as no contact number was available, and it remains unclear if she has secured legal representation.

Essayli also shared an image depicting an individual in an FBI jacket escorting a woman into a vehicle outside one of LAX’s terminals, presumably capturing the moment of Mafi’s arrest.

Mafi, originally from Iran, has been living in the United States as a lawful permanent resident since 2016, according to Essayli. The case underscores the complexities of international arms trafficking and its impact on global conflicts.

Mafi is an Iranian national who became a lawful permanent resident of the United States in 2016, Essayli said.

She is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Monday. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison.

The Sudanese civil war has created a humanitarian crisis in the North African country where food supplies are dwindling and millions of people have fled their homes.

Revitalize Hip Strength Post-55: Top 5 Standing Exercises That Outperform Floor Stretches

0

Maintaining robust hip strength is crucial, especially as it can significantly reduce the risk of falls by ensuring the stability of your spine and pelvis.

As you age, particularly past the age of 55, prioritizing certain aspects of physical health becomes essential, with hip strength being a key focus. This is important to counteract the muscle degeneration, known as sarcopenia, that naturally occurs with aging. Strengthening your hips facilitates a more active and independent lifestyle, enabling you to remain mobile and handle daily activities more effortlessly.

To help you begin this journey, we consulted with Terry Tateossian, the Founder and a Certified Lifestyle Medicine Coach at THOR – The House of Rose. She specializes in women’s health and weight management for those over 40, drawing on her extensive training in this field. We’ve compiled a list of five effective standing exercises to boost your hip strength more efficiently than traditional floor stretches, especially for those over 55.

“The hips often require significant attention, particularly in women over 55,” Tateossian explains. “It’s common to encounter tightness, imbalances, and more pronounced sarcopenia in the glutes, which are crucial for hip stabilization.” She further notes that as estrogen and testosterone levels decrease during midlife for both genders, there is a heightened need to focus on maintaining muscle mass to prevent reduced stability and balance. This is especially critical as weakening of the glutes and hips can lead to an increased risk of falls and injuries.

“The hips are one of the areas in the body where I see the most attention required—especially in women over 55. It’s very common to have tight hips, a possible imbalance in the hips and hip stabilizers, and more profound sarcopenia in the glutes (which stabilize the hips),” Tateossian tells us. “As estrogen/testosterone declines in midlife for both men and women, and without proactive attention in retaining muscle as we age, we start to experience reduced stability and balance. We have higher risks of falls and injuries, especially when the glutes and hips are declining in strength.”

Walking mechanics and posture change as hip strength declines. It becomes common to place strain on your lower back and knees because they are compensating. That’s where standing exercises come in clutch and serve as an effective addition to your workout routine.

“Standing exercises are great for building strength in the hips/ glutes as they activate the stabilizing muscles and train the hips/glutes in a weight-bearing position, which is how we actually use them,” Tateossian says. “Stretching (floor hip exercises) helps you move better, but standing hip/glute exercises help you develop strength, be stable, and stay injury-free.”

Chair Squats

  1. Begin by standing tall in front of a sturdy chair with your feet hip-width apart on the ground.
  2. Activate your core and keep your chest lifted.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips and lower slowly into a squat—as if you’re about to sit down. Make sure your weight stays in your heels.
  4. Lightly touch the surface of the chair with your glutes.
  5. Press through your heels to rise back up.
  6. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps, resting for 60 seconds between sets.

Democrat Breaks Party Lines to Support Trump’s Nominee for DHS

A Democrat who supported Donald Trump's nominee for DHS Secretary has explained why he split with the majority of his party to vote in Markwayne Mullin. John Fetterman, who often breaks with the party line, was one of only two Democrats who helped usher in the new Department of Homeland Security boss. The Pennsylvania lawmaker told Fox News' Saturday in America he voted for the MAGA Republican in an attempt to 'put country over party'. 'What's interesting is there were plenty of Democrats that criticized me for voting, for, to work with, Secretary Mullin,' he said.

In a surprising move that has sparked conversation and controversy, Democrat John Fetterman diverged from the majority of his party by supporting Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Homeland Security. Markwayne Mullin, a MAGA Republican, received bipartisan backing thanks to Fetterman and one other Democrat. Fetterman, known for his independent streak, explained his decision during an appearance on Fox News’ “Saturday in America,” stating that he prioritized “country over party.” He remarked, “Many Democrats criticized me for my vote, but I haven’t seen similar outrage when there are calls for the deaths of American service members in downtown Philadelphia. I stand for reason and against government shutdowns. My allegiance is to the country, not party lines, and I will remain steadfast in that position.”

Country Over Party

'But I haven't seen other kinds of criticism when you have people calling for the death of American service members in the middle of downtown Philadelphia. I mean, I'm on the right side of reasonable. I'm on the right side of never shut the government down. I'm the guy that's on the side of country over party, and I'm going to remain in that exact space.' Anti-American protesters gathered in Philadelphia and vowed to celebrate the deaths of US soldiers, shocking video revealed on Thursday.

The backdrop to Fetterman’s comments includes a shocking incident in Philadelphia, where anti-American protesters gathered, openly celebrating the notion of harm befalling US soldiers. A chilling video from the demonstration revealed a masked speaker declaring, “For every US military base that crumbles and for every US soldier who returns home in a casket, we cheer.” This display of extremism drew a sharp rebuke from Fetterman, who took to social media platform X to decry the rally as “truly appalling.”

An Unlikely Alliance

'For every US military base that crumbles and for every US soldier who returns home in a casket, we cheer,' a masked speaker told the crowd at the time. The anti-America rally was condemned on Thursday by Fetterman, who called the remarks 'Truly appalling,' on X. Fetterman also wrote on X at the time, 'These [expletive] chanting [sic] for the death of our servicemembers.' 'Where's the Dem outrage and condemnation?' he asked. Across the aisle, Texas Senator Ted Cruz quickly responded to Fetterman. 'Very good Q,' Cruz posted, also calling the demonstration 'sick' in a separate post.

Fetterman expressed his disgust in a post, stating, “These [expletive] chanting for the death of our servicemembers.” He also questioned the lack of outrage from his fellow Democrats, asking, “Where’s the Dem outrage and condemnation?” His query was met with a swift response from across the political aisle, as Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz echoed the sentiment, labeling the protest as “sick” and acknowledging Fetterman’s question with a “Very good Q.”

Last week, Fetterman was one of two Democrats who voted to confirm Mullin's nomination for the role of DHS Secretary. Fetterman and Democrat Martin Heinrich of New Mexico crossed party lines to support the majority of Republicans and approve the nomination, which was confirmed 54-45 on Monday evening. Mullin's nomination was also advanced out of the Senate homeland security committee the week prior, only after Fetterman was the only member of his party to support the nominee.

Over the last few months, Fetterman has toed a fine line on the immigration issue. He has both defended the work of ICE agents 'deporting criminal migrants in our country', while also calling for now-former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to be ousted and for the agency to come under 'new leadership.'
