U.S. Advised to Steer Clear of Caribbean Nation Due to Rising Terrorism and Crime Concerns

0

U.S. authorities are advising their citizens to steer clear of a well-known Caribbean destination due to escalating threats of terrorism and crime.

The U.S. Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago, along with the State Department, revised their ongoing level three travel advisory on Thursday.

The advisory states, “Reconsider travel to Trinidad and Tobago due to crime.” It further warns of an increased terrorism risk, noting that certain areas pose a higher danger.

The announcement highlighted specific regions that American travelers should avoid if they decide to visit.

Travelers are advised to avoid nighttime visits to Port of Spain Beaches, Downtown Port of Spain, Fort George, and Queen’s Park Savannah.

Many Trinidad and Tobago towns, especially Port of Spain, attract hundreds of thousands of Americans each year.

But in the first three months of this year, the islands saw more than 60 killings, reported Fodor‘s. Last year, there were more than 330.

Several Americans have already been caught up in violence on the islands in the last year, including at least three who lost their lives.

Kawandy Dixon, 38, was shot while attending a family funeral in Enterprise, Trinidad on September 7, according to a GoFundMe set up by his family.

Dixon was a father of three and a resident of Jamaica, New York, reported the Queens Chronicle.

US citizen Rahiem Elijah Thomas, 24, was shot and killed in Belmont on September 8, according to WIC News.

In November, Colorado resident Christopher Brown was stabbed in a remote fishing village in Trinidad after getting dinner and drinks with his friends.

The 43-year-old had allegedly split from his group to purchase marijuana. He was found with multiple stab wounds and a ‘metal object’ protruding from his back, the Daily Mail previously reported.

According to the US State Department, threats of terrorism in Trinidad and Tobago are driven by ‘the return of individuals who traveled or attempted to travel to Syria or Iraq to join ISIS.’

Trinidad and Tobago’s government declared a state of emergency at the beginning of March because of the sudden spike in ‘violent criminal activity.’

However, the embassy noted that violent crime in Trinidad and Tobago has dropped significantly since 2024 ‘due to security efforts started during the previous state of emergencies.’

The US first declared a state of emergency for American travelers to Trinidad and Tobago in 2024 following a rise in gang violence.

The embassy urges anyone traveling to the islands to exercise increased caution.

It is recommended that US travelers enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, refrain from displaying signs of wealth, and stay alert at all times.

‘Do not physically resist any robbery attempt unless forced into a vehicle or remote area,’ added the release.

US government employees are prohibited from visiting Piccadilly, Besson and South Charlotte Streets as well as Laventille and Beetham, Sea Lots, Cocorite and the interior of Queen’s Park Savannah.

Unveiling the Shadows: Radio Icon’s Murder Leads to Discovery of Motorcycle Gang’s Hidden Drug Operation

0

The Philadelphia community was rocked by the untimely death of beloved radio host April Kauffman, discovered lifeless in her opulent residence in May 2012.

Years of meticulous investigation eventually unraveled a web of deceit surrounding her murder, involving false military honors, a clandestine drug operation, and a notorious Pagan motorcycle gang.

“This case taught many investigators the importance of perseverance,” remarked Damon G. Tyner, Former Atlantic County Prosecutor, on Oxygen’s Philly Homicide. “I’m immensely proud of the team’s dedication to securing justice for the family.”

April was a cherished figure in Philadelphia and nearby New Jersey, celebrated as a radio DJ and an advocate for veterans, frequently visiting wounded servicemen at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“She had an incredibly vibrant and engaging personality,” recalled fellow host Thelma Witherspoon. “April never met a stranger.”

“She has a very vivid and lively personality,” fellow host Thelma Witherspoon remembered. “She never met a stranger.”

It was her passion for helping veterans that led her to Jim Kauffman, a doctor who enticed April with stories about his time as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War.

What Happened to April Kauffman?

To many, April and Jim seemed to be a power couple, but on May 10, 2012, April was discovered dead in her Jersey Shore bedroom by their long-time handyman.

Former Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Newark office Tim Gallagher said police arrived and found April lying “in a pool of blood on the floor soaking into the rug.”

She had been shot three times.

The family’s handyman also called Jim, who had been at a convenience store.

“Dr. Kaufman is immediately confronted with the fact that his wife has been murdered,” Gallagher explained. “He immediately begins to become emotional. He starts crying and even vomiting on the scene.”

The Linwood Police Department and Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office joined forces to investigate the homicide, noting that there were no signs of a break in or robbery.

“It was a pretty clean scene,” Tyner said. “They were baffled by it.”

Police Consider Potential Leads in April Kauffman’s Murder

Detectives considered the handyman, but he reported having a great relationship with the couple and had appreciated the work. Jim was also ruled out after he was captured on surveillance footage at the convenience store at the time of the shooting.

“They went out looking for potential leads,” Gallagher said, “and they really didn’t find anything which would have pointed at someone who wanted to commit such a heinous crime.”

April’s funeral gathered hundreds of mourners—including members of the Pagan Motorcycle club, who even led the funeral procession to her burial site.

“The Pagans have a very large presence in South Jersey and Philadelphia,” true crime author and journalist Annie McCormick noted. “They even had an affiliation with the Philadelphia mob. They’re known for running drugs, running guns, prostitution, a number of different criminal activities.”

Although their presence was noted by investigators, authorities also knew many of the group’s members—and other bikers in the area—had been in the military, explaining their tie to April.

“They loved her,” Commander of American Legion Post 352 Robert Frolow recalled. “Can’t remember any that had a bad thing to say about her.”

April Kauffman’s Daughter Suspects Her Mom’s Husband Jim

Months went by without any solid leads, but April’s daughter Kim Pack—who considered her mother a best friend—was convinced Jim had something to do with her death.

“There are certain things that didn’t sit well with Kim when Jim spoke at the funeral,” McCormick said. “Number one, he kept his sunglasses on. And there were things that stuck out to Kim that she felt were digs at her mother in his eulogy, including him saying that he’ll miss April berating him.”

She’d also been upset that Jim had quickly given away her mother’s possessions and Kim knew that shortly before her mom’s death, April discovered that Jim had lied and was not really a military veteran.

“She knew that her mother had planned to divorce Jim,” Tyner explained. “She knew that her mother wanted out. That was a central, central key to starting to unlock some of the motives.”

After learning that Jim planned to cash in on a life insurance policy over a half a million dollars, Kim filed a wrongful death suit against him. Under oath during a deposition, Jim was forced to admit he’d lied about his military career, revealing the marriage had not been as happy as he claimed.

Still, there wasn’t enough evidence to tie him to the crime and the case went cold for years, until Tyner took office in 2017 and renewed the effort to solve the case.

FBI Uncovers Jim Kauffman’s Insurance Fraud Scheme

Investigators learned that the Atlantic County FBI field office was also looking into Jim for insurance fraud after noticing the endocrinologist was writing a high volume of prescriptions for pain medication. Authorities learned that many of the patients he treated were also members of the Pagan Motorcycle Club.

“Dr. Kauffman was writing scripts for an inordinate amount of opioids and other pain medicines,” Tyner explained. “What would happen was a presumed patient would come in. They wouldn’t even be in there 10 minutes and Jim would write them a script and they would leave.”

The patients would then give the medications to someone to sell on the streets.

As part of the investigation, authorities secured a search warrant for Jim’s office, but when Jim arrived for work that day, he walked inside, grabbed his gun and then came outside shouting “No, I’m not going to jail for this.”

After a multi-hour stand off, Jim—who believed authorities were there to arrest him for murder—surrendered and was taken into custody for weapons offenses.

During a search of his home and office, investigators seized large amounts of cash and patient records.

Investigators Find the Key to Solving April Kauffman’s Murder

Investigators honed in on one patient in particular, Andrew Glick, the president of the Cape May County chapter of the Pagans. After questioning him, Andrew began to move product from a stash apartment to his home. When investigators served a search warrant and confiscated the drugs, Andrew admitted to running a pill mill with the doctor and agreed to flip on him.

He also claimed that Jim had wanted to avoid an expensive divorce and was worried that April would turn him in for stolen valor and the drug operation. To keep her quiet, he allegedly arranged for Pagan’s Fred Augello to kill his wife in exchange for $50,000.

“She’s threatening to go to the police about the drug operation, and that can’t happen,” Tyner said. “He was like,’ well, she has to go.’”

But Fred didn’t want to carry out the hit himself and hired Francis Mullholland and Joe Mullholland to kill April. Francis and Joe—who are not related—allegedly drove to April’s house that day then Francis went inside and shot her, authorities said.

To prove his claims, Andrew agreed to wear a wire during a conversation with Fred, confirming the plot.

Fred was arrested and eventually agreed to testify—along with six others connected to the pill mill—against Jim. However, Jim died by suicide in jail before going to trial. Francis also died before ever being convicted.

Fred, however, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was also found guilty on federal drug charges and received a life sentence. He must serve as least 55 years before being eligible for parole.

Inside the Alleged Feud: Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson’s Rumored Rift Explored

A filmmaker collaborating with Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson is shedding some light on rumors of a renewed conflict between the two.

Nicola Marsh, the director behind a forthcoming Netflix docuseries featuring the former One Direction members, addressed reports suggesting that Zayn, 33, and Louis, 34, had a physical altercation during filming, allegedly leading to a renewed rift.

In response to a headline from The Sun stating “Louis Punched by Zayn,” Nicola shared her thoughts on her Instagram Story on April 18. According to a screenshot shared by The Independent, she commented, “And there goes the last year of work.”

E! News has attempted to contact representatives for both Zayn and Louis, though no response has been received yet.

Amidst the swirling rumors, observant fans noticed that Louis has unfollowed Zayn on Instagram. Despite this, the “Back to You” artist continues to follow Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and the account associated with the late Liam Payne.

Meanwhile, Zayn—who was recently hospitalized for an undisclosed health scare—continues to follow Louis on the social media platform.

5 Standing Exercises to Firm Belly Overhang More Effectively Than Traditional Ab Workouts for Those Over 55

0

When it comes to sculpting your abs, relying solely on crunches might not be enough, especially after the age of 55. Instead, integrating standing exercises into your routine could be the game-changer you need.

While traditional ab workouts often emphasize floor exercises, they might not fully engage your core in the most beneficial way. Standing exercises demand that your core stabilizes your body as it moves, particularly when your legs and arms are in motion. This method of training not only targets your abs but also enhances how your body maintains tension throughout daily activities.

Many fitness enthusiasts default to mat-based routines when aiming to tone their midsection. Although these exercises can be effective, incorporating standing movements introduces a new level of challenge. Your core remains engaged as you perform lifts, hinges, and weight shifts, providing a comprehensive workout that better reflects real-life movements and can lead to noticeable improvements in your posture and strength beyond the gym.

In my experience with clients, this approach resonates well because it mirrors natural body movements. By training in everyday positions, your core remains active throughout the routine. As this becomes habitual, your midsection starts to feel more supported and toned, eliminating the need for countless repetitions.

From what I’ve seen working with clients, this approach tends to click because it feels more natural. You’re training your body in positions you use every day, and your core stays active the entire time. When that becomes consistent, your midsection starts to feel tighter and more supported without needing to chase endless reps.

These five standing exercises bring your core into full-body movement, so you’re building strength while firming your midsection. You’ll train your legs, upper body, and hips while your core stays engaged from start to finish. Stick with these, and you’ll start to notice that tension carries over into how you stand, move, and hold your posture.

Goblet Squats

Goblet squats bring your core and lower body together, helping build strength while keeping your torso upright. Holding the weight in front of your body keeps your core engaged as you move through the squat. That engagement helps tighten your midsection while your legs do the work. You’ll also notice how your posture stays more controlled from start to finish. Staying consistent here builds strength and awareness simultaneously. Over time, that shows up in how your body holds itself throughout the day.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, core, and upper back

How to Do It:

  1. Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell at chest height with both hands.
  2. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and keep your chest tall.
  4. Lower your hips down into a squat.
  5. Press through your feet to stand back up.
  6. Repeat for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Bodyweight squats, tempo squats, box squats

Form Tip: Keep the weight close to your chest to stay upright.

Bent-Over Dumbbell Rows

Bent-over rows challenge your core differently. You have to hold your position while your arms move, which keeps your midsection engaged the entire time. That steady tension helps build core strength while also working your upper body. You’ll feel your back and arms moving, but your core is what keeps everything in place. Staying controlled here makes a big difference. Over time, this helps your posture and midsection feel more connected.

Muscles Trained: Upper back, lats, biceps, and core

How to Do It:

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Hinge forward at your hips with a slight bend in your knees.
  3. Keep your back flat and core engaged.
  4. Pull the dumbbells toward your torso.
  5. Lower them back down with control.
  6. Repeat for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Single-arm rows, tempo rows, supported rows

Form Tip: Keep your torso steady as your arms move.

Dumbbell Push Press

The dumbbell push press brings your lower and upper body together through a single fluid movement. As you dip and drive the weight overhead, your core has to stay tight to transfer force. That connection helps build strength through your midsection while your shoulders and legs do the work. You’ll feel how everything has to move together to complete the rep. Staying controlled keeps the movement clean and effective. Over time, this builds strength that carries over into everyday movement.

Muscles Trained: Shoulders, triceps, quadriceps, and core

How to Do It:

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height.
  2. Stand with your feet hip-width apart.
  3. Dip slightly by bending your knees.
  4. Drive through your legs and press the weights overhead.
  5. Lower the weights back to your shoulders.
  6. Repeat for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps. Rest for 60 seconds between each se.t

Best Variations: Single-arm push press, kettlebell push press, staggered stance push press

Form Tip: Brace your core before driving the weight overhead.

Kettlebell Swings

Kettlebell swings bring a dynamic element into your routine while still demanding strong core engagement. The movement comes from your hips, but your core has to stay tight to control the swing. That repeated effort builds strength and endurance through your midsection. You’ll feel your hips drive the movement while your core keeps everything in check. Staying controlled helps you get the most out of each rep. Over time, this builds power and stability together.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, core, and lower back

How to Do It:

  1. Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip-width.
  2. Hold a kettlebell with both hands.
  3. Hinge at your hips and swing the kettlebell back.
  4. Drive your hips forward to swing it upward.
  5. Let the kettlebell swing back down under control.
  6. Repeat for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between each s.et

Best Variations: Lighter swings, slower tempo swings, dead stop swings

Form Tip: Use your hips to drive the movement, not your arms.

Dumbbell Step-Ups

Dumbbell step-ups tie everything together through a movement that challenges your balance and control. As you step up, your core has to stay engaged to keep you steady. That constant tension helps build strength through your midsection while your legs do the work. You’ll feel your body stabilize with each rep. Staying controlled keeps the movement smooth and effective. Over time, this builds strength that carries over into daily movement.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and core

How to Do It:

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Stand in front of a sturdy step or platform.
  3. Place one foot on the step.
  4. Drive through that foot to step up.
  5. Bring your other foot up to meet it.
  6. Step back down with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Bodyweight step-ups, lower step height, slow tempo reps

Form Tip: Drive through your whole foot to stay balanced.

Cher Stunned by Revelation of 15-Year-Old Granddaughter, Confirming Long-Standing Family Speculation

0

Cher was reportedly at a loss for words upon learning she has a 15-year-old granddaughter, finally confirming long-standing whispers within her family about her son’s hidden child.

The revelation came during an emotional phone conversation last year with Kayti Edwards, the child’s mother, who shared the news with the legendary singer.

Kayti Edwards, a former model and also the granddaughter of actress Julie Andrews, has alleged that she had a brief romantic involvement with Cher’s son, Elijah Allman, 49, back in 2010. This relationship, she claims, resulted in the birth of their daughter, Ever. According to Edwards, Elijah was aware of Ever’s existence and would visit sporadically, although he reportedly did not wish to take on a parental role.

The family’s secret was apparently unveiled in 2021 when Elijah experienced a drug overdose and, during a moment of vulnerability, admitted to his now-estranged wife, Marieangela King, that he had a child.

As rumors circulated within the family, Cher eventually reached out to Kayti last year seeking the truth. Upon confirming the news, she was said to be left “speechless” by the realization that she is indeed a grandmother.

‘She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk,’ Kayti told The Sun.

‘When she heard the news, she was speechless. Cher told her family, “Oh my God, I’m finally a grandma”.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Cher for comment.

It comes just one day after Cher asked the court to appoint a temporary conservator for her son Elijah following a series of financial, legal, and drug-related crises.

In court documents obtained by the Daily Mail on Friday, the singer – who shares Elijah with her late ex-husband musician Gregg Allman – revealed that her son is currently locked in a psychiatric hospital, describing his life as having ‘significantly deteriorated’ since she first filed for conservatorship in 2023.

Cher detailed an alarming incident in which Elijah was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car, causing a traffic jam, and was subsequently hospitalised where Narcan was administered to save his life.

The Believe singer also expressed concern over Elijah’s financial behaviour, claiming he ‘has no concept of money, is unable to manage his financial resources and is unable to withstand fraud or undue influence.’

According to Cher, her son owes $18,000 to a drug dealer and had to borrow money from a friend to avoid further harm.

In addition to his drug issues, Elijah is facing a mounting $200,000 tax bill.

He has also accumulated significant debt after causing damage to various Airbnbs, including cigarette burns and broken windows, as outlined in the court documents.

Cher claims Elijah owes $50,000 from his last Airbnb stay after he reportedly trashed the property.

She also says he’s been banned from 18 hotels for disturbing guests, screaming obscenities, and behaving erratically.

In one disturbing incident, Elijah allegedly cornered a young female maid at a hotel and ‘aggressively proposed sexual relations.’

Elijah has also faced recent legal issues, including multiple arrests in New Hampshire for charges of ‘felony burglary, criminal mischief, simple assault, criminal trespass, and breach of bail.’

Cher is requesting that the judge appoint fiduciary Jason Rubin as the temporary conservator of Elijah’s estate, stressing that her son’s situation has become dire.

She explains that Elijah’s mental health has ‘severely deteriorated’ and his drug dependency is at its worst.

Cher wants Rubin to oversee Elijah’s affairs so that his issues ‘can start being fixed one problem at a time.’

Ed Sheeran’s LOOP Tour: How He Earns an Astonishing £5 Million per Show

Ed Sheeran’s LOOP world tour launched with impressive momentum, generating an astounding £5 million for each performance during its initial phase.

The 35-year-old musician, with an estimated fortune of £370 million, began this musical journey in Auckland, New Zealand, this past January.

Reports from The Mirror reveal that the hitmaker sold an incredible 754,050 tickets over a period of seven weeks, concluding this segment of the tour with a final performance in Adelaide, Australia, in March.

According to the music analytics company Pollstar, the Oceania leg of the tour alone amassed a breathtaking £74.2 million in ticket sales.

This segment included 17 shows across eight different stadiums, achieving an average revenue of £5.32 million per concert.

Those figures do not include additional income from sponsorships and merchandise, while the average ticket price came in at £98.40.

Ed is now taking a well-earned break before heading to Latin America, where the next leg kicks off in Santo Domingo on May 9.

It comes after the Daily Mail reported that Ed is set to bank £12million after closing down his touring firm.

The singer filed accounts at Companies House on April 7 to wind down his Hayagota-tourboi Touring LLP company.

The firm has banked over £400million since it was first set up in 2012 and the most recently filed accounts for 2024 showed a turnover of £40.3million.

After settling its debts, the firm had a profit of £12.5million which will go to Ed when the company has been closed.

The hitmaker also set up a new firm called Gingerbread Touring last year – likely the new company where he will put his tour earnings.

Ed recently revealed his wife Cherry Seaborn is ‘on the other side’ of her cancer journey as he reflected on the moment he found out about her diagnosis.

Doctors discovered Cherry had a tumour in her arm in February 2022 while she was six months pregnant with their second child, daughter Jupiter.

In the same week Cherry found out she had cancer, Ed’s best friends Jamal Edwards and Shane Warne died suddenly and a court case launched over his song Shape Of You, where Ed was accused of plagiarising and which he later won.

After Ed and Cherry, 32, who wed in 2019, welcomed Jupiter into the world, the mother-of-two had an operation to remove the tumour.

Sharing an update on his wife’s health, Ed explained: ‘The day Cherry rung me up and said that she had cancer, that was probably one of the worst days.

‘That was probably the worst week because Jamal died that week as well and then we went straight into the court case. And then Shane died.

‘She’s fine, I mean she had the operation. She was pregnant at the time so that’s why it was difficult.

‘She had the operation to remove the tumour after she’d given birth to our second child. Thankfully, touch wood, totally fine.’

Ed chatted to Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco on an episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast.

When Cherry first sought medical help, she was initially told by a doctor ‘this is really bad’ and that she had cancer.

The mother-of-two immediately rang Ed telling him to cancel all of his plans, while they waited an agonising month long wait for the full report.

But Cherry was told there were no treatment plans that would work with her pregnancy.

After a sequencing test was done on the tumour, the couple found it was much less severe than what was thought originally and surgery could be done after she had given birth to Jupiter.

Cherry said in Ed’s Disney+ documentary: ‘It was the most incredible news. I nearly threw up when the surgeon told us we could wait to the end of the pregnancy to get the tumour out.

‘We didn’t have to worry about delivering the baby early.’

Ed and Cherry went on to welcome Jupiter and announced her arrival in May 2022 with a sweet Instagram post. The couple are also proud parents to Lyra, four.

In Ed’s documentary, Cherry gave an update on her health after going for a check-up appointment months after the initial surgery – and was thrilled when she was told the tumour hadn’t come back.

She said: ‘Yesterday I had follow up scan in my arm to see if the tumour had come back. We were silent in the car as we were worried it would be bad.

‘It was super triggering being in the same room when things weren’t so positive at the start of the year. The surgeon looked at the scans and it all looks good. The lymph nodes have all calmed down. That was amazing. It was massive for us.’

Discover the Charming City Luring Americans with Peaceful Living and Affordable $4 Wine

0

Americans have discovered a new European gem, choosing to settle in the picturesque city of Porto, Portugal, once a popular vacation spot now becoming a permanent residence for many.

Known for its rich tradition in Port wine, Porto is Portugal’s second-largest city, boasting a vibrant population of approximately 1.3 million residents. The city’s allure has caught the eye of many U.S. citizens, transforming it into a favored European destination.

Ricardo Costa, the CEO and partner at Luximos Christie’s International Real Estate, shared insights with the Daily Mail, noting, “Porto has been elected by Americans as one of their favorite cities in Europe. Our foreign buyers are increasingly American.”

He observed a marked shift in perception, recounting how Americans used to say, “I heard about Portugal.” Now, they’re saying, “Yes, I’ve been there, I bought a house there, I’m going next month.”

Costa attributes Porto’s growing appeal to its unique blend of a relaxed yet energetic lifestyle. “We offer a kind of relaxed lifestyle, but not as laid-back as other European cities,” he explained. “Americans are used to a faster pace, and here in the north, we tend to align with that vibe.”

By 2023, around 10,000 Americans were living in Portugal and the number continues to grow due to the affordability and safety that the country offers, as well as a change in lifestyle, the American Emigration Revue, that examines American emigration, said.

Luxury real estate advisor Anastasia Kolomiets of The Agency spoke about the draw of the city to Mansion Global and said that as well as the Douro Valley wine region being about 90 miles away, Porto is very affordable but it also boasts the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the country.

‘Think coffee for €1 ($1.10), a glass of wine for €4 ($4.70) and cheap Ubers,’ she said.

‘The Algarve and Lisbon had always drawn foreign buyers, but Porto is a more intelligent market – less packed and underrated. But it’s growing fast,’ Kolomiets added.

When buying a home it often means that people get more for their money than in the US. ‘If you compare it to the US, it’s inexpensive… you can buy properties for a fraction of the price,’ Costa said.

He added that a home at around 1,150 to 2,700 sq ft would have a starting price of around €1.5 million ($1.7 million) to €5 million ($5.8 million) if it sits on the waterfront.

Costa boasted that the architecture is also one of features that attracts people and it has a lot of British influence, he said.

‘This is not a typical southern European city like many others… you feel that you are in Europe, but the architecture matches more Central Europe, like a romantic style, gothic style,’ he continued.

‘You’re in Europe, but you don’t feel like you’re in a resort… you don’t feel like you are on the coastline of Marbella or the Algarve. It’s great, absolutely great, but here it’s different.’

Much of what he believes has influenced a move from many Americans has been more flexible work opportunities since the covid pandemic.

‘Portugal has this nomad visa… we are able to attract a lot of people from IT, meaning that they pay very low taxes. Someone who works with Google can work anywhere,’ Costa said.

But he added that there was a variety of ages moving in from people in their twenties to retirees along with families with children who attend the international schools.

He believes that Portugal has got more on people’s vacation radar through social media and this has influenced much of the migration trend as people go there on holiday and then decide to stay.

‘Portugal has been more in the spotlight for the last ten-plus years… it became trendy,’ he said.

An American Reddit user agreed that part of the draw to Portugal was a more relaxed way of life. They wrote that it offers ‘a better quality of life, better life for my daughter, slower life and better benefits.

‘Yes, I will make half what I would in the US, but if I get cancer we won’t lose our house and I don’t have save $100k+ for my kid’s university.’

They continued: ‘And the chances of her getting shot in a school are practically zero. And I get better PTO and work life balance.’

Another user, who moved over three years ago, cited healthcare, gun violence, public transit, fresher groceries and political tensions as reasons for moving.

‘Also, I fell in love with the food, people, and culture during an amazing vacation,’ they said.

A third said: ‘The cost of living is many times better here than in California. Sure, the housing is getting worse in Portugal which is very unfortunate, but a €300,000 ($350,000) flat would maybe get you a shed in California.’

Costa said that many Americans are keen to immerse themselves in the culture and learn Portuguese despite many English speakers living there.

‘They tend to integrate… try to learn the language, they respect our culture…We never get the feeling that they want to reshape our culture… they adapt, and that’s great.’

He concluded: ‘It’s a charming town, I’m very proud to be born in this town… it’s mainly this charm that makes it so sought after.’

UK Police Report Attempted Antisemitic Hate Crime at London Synagogue

Authorities in London are actively searching for two masked individuals involved in an attempted arson at a synagogue, an incident currently being investigated as an antisemitic hate crime.

The Metropolitan Police of the United Kingdom reported that the suspects, clad in dark attire and wearing balaclavas, targeted the synagogue in Finchley shortly after midnight on Wednesday. They hurled two bottles, which are believed to have contained petrol, along with a brick at the building.

Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams acknowledged the distress this event might cause, especially following a similar arson attack in Golders Green last month. “We are collaborating with the affected synagogue and maintaining dialogue with community leaders,” he stated, emphasizing the seriousness with which such incidents are treated. “Our detectives are working diligently to identify those responsible,” he assured.

Authorities have released a photograph showing a police officer examining the scene outside Finchley Reform Synagogue, where the attack took place on April 15, 2026. The Metropolitan Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation into the attack.

Police said neither bottle ignited and no damage or injuries were reported.

British prosecutors earlier this month charged three suspects — ages 17, 19 and 20 — in an alleged arson attack targeting Jewish community ambulances in north London.

The March 23 incident unfolded at around 1:45 a.m. in the Golders Green neighborhood, where four ambulances operated by a volunteer emergency service serving the Jewish community were deliberately set ablaze in a synagogue parking lot.

In the latest incident, the Metropolitan Police said no arrests have been made as of Wednesday afternoon local time.

“If you have any CCTV, dash cam footage or information that could help officers please contact the police,” Williams said.

“Residents can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area over the coming days. We have brought in additional officers and would urge anyone with concerns to speak to them,” he added.

Luna, Daughter of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Marks 10th Birthday with a Stylish Celebration

Chrissy Teigen transformed her daughter Luna’s 10th birthday into an exclusive fashion experience.

On April 14, the model accompanied Luna to The Daily Front Row’s 10th Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards, held at The Beverly Hills Hotel. This event doubled as a birthday celebration, aligning perfectly with Luna’s milestone of turning ten. The evening was a blend of stylish festivities and cherished mother-daughter bonding.

In a Getty Images snapshot, Teigen dazzled in a chic white suit paired with a bronze bralette, while Luna embraced elegance in a black one-shoulder dress. The duo remained inseparable throughout the event, sharing moments of hand-holding and attentive whispers as they enjoyed the show together.

Leading up to the birthday, Teigen offered a peek into their personal countdown to Luna’s big day. She posted a sweet video on Instagram Stories, capturing Luna snuggling into bed with her mom as they eagerly anticipated the moment she turned ten.

Earlier in the week, Teigen shared a glimpse of how they marked the final hours before Luna turned 10. In a video posted to Instagram Stories, Luna climbed into bed next to her mom as they counted down.

“Last hug of 9,” Luna said before wrapping her arms around Teigen.

Teigen reacted in the moment, joking through it before the realization hit that her oldest child was stepping into a new age.

Luna Simone Stephens was born on April 14, 2016, to Teigen and John Legend. She is the couple’s eldest child, followed by Miles, Esti, and Wren.

She is already getting comfortable on camera. In 2024, she led her first sit-down conversation with her dad for Billboard Family at just 8 years old.

The Billboard Family appearance wasn’t a one-off. More recently, she spent time backstage during The Voice, where she went around speaking with contestants and others involved with the show, asking questions and keeping conversations flowing.

Her creativity also extends beyond the camera. She sang on the track “L.O.V.E.” on Legend’s children’s album My Favorite Dream and created the artwork for the single covers tied to the project. Her designs even made their way onto merchandise, including hoodies available through Legend’s store.

North Korea Conducts Ballistic Missile Launches into Sea

North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles toward the sea on Sunday, its neighbours said, the North’s latest weapons testing activity this year.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea conducted missile launches on Sunday morning, originating from the eastern region of Sinpo.

In response, South Korea has heightened its surveillance efforts and is actively sharing intelligence with allies, including the United States and Japan.

Officials from South Korea’s presidential office announced that the National Security Council is set to convene an emergency meeting to address the developments.

Japan’s Defense Ministry also confirmed the missile launches, noting that the projectiles appeared to have fallen into the waters off North Korea’s east coast.

Tokyo has issued a strong protest to Pyongyang, asserting that the missile tests pose a threat to both regional and global peace. The launches contravene United Nations Security Council resolutions, which prohibit North Korea from engaging in any ballistic missile activities.

Last week, North Korea said leader Kim Jong Un supervised missile tests from the country’s destroyer.

After the test, Kim said his government remained focused on the “limitless expansion” of its nuclear forces and issued unspecified new tasks to sharpen the country’s nuclear attack and rapid-response capabilities.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi said last week that his agency has confirmed “a rapid increase” in activities at nuclear facilities in North Korea.
