Eric Swalwell’s Campaign Finances: $75K Spent on High-End Events

0

After withdrawing from the California governor’s race, Eric Swalwell continued to spend extensively from his campaign funds, accumulating over $75,000 in charges for various controversial expenses. These included payments for alcohol, membership at an exclusive private club, and remuneration for his Brazilian nanny.

According to a recent Federal Election Commission filing, “Swalwell for Congress” incurred $76,900 in expenditures during the first quarter of the year. This spending spree occurred even after the congressman, who has faced considerable scrutiny, exited the race in November.

Swalwell resigned from his congressional position on Monday and formally ended his gubernatorial campaign following a series of sexual assault allegations that surfaced against him.

The former congressman is facing increased criticism for continuing to utilize campaign funds for high-end expenses despite his withdrawal from the political race.

The detailed 135-page filing, obtained by the Daily Mail, outlines the campaign’s expenditures from January 1 to March 31, shedding light on how the funds were allocated during that period.

There were multiple receipts made out to his Brazilian nanny, Amanda Barbosa, who received thousands of dollars in campaign finance funds in the first quarter of 2026.

FEC records previously reviewed by the Daily Mail indicated that Barbosa received $46,930 in funds in 2022.

NOTUS estimated a total of $72,000 on childcare expenses throughout 2025, paid by Swalwell’s campaign.

Swalwell and his wife, Brittany Watts, are being investigated for employing Barbosa after her temporary work authorization allegedly expired.

Barbosa was legally authorized to work as Swalwell’s nanny from January 2021 to December 2022, according to complaints filed with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor by reporter and documentary maker Joel Gilbert.

When her visa ended, the Swalwells began the process of applying to sponsor her for a green card, and Barbosa enrolled in community college, according to the complaint.

However, the complaint alleged that Swalwell kept Barbosa employed between January 2023 and February 2025 despite her allegedly lacking proper visa status.

Some of the other expenses include three different charges for $1,598 on February 11 to Stanford Hotels Corporation, a hotel in San Francisco. The same charge also appeared three times on February 6.

In January, he charged $44 for Harry’s Reserve, a liquor store in Washington DC. He charged $293 for Talay Thai restaurant, an upscale dining spot in Sacramento, on February 24, and then again for $198.40 on March 27.

There are also multiple charges at The Battery, a San Francisco members’ club, including a $664 charge on March 17 and a $520 charge on February 18.

The filing also includes over 80 pages of charges exclusively for Uber and Uber Eats. He also paid $637 to Cook Construction LLC on March 18 for internet and television services.

There are multiple charges for Google LLC, Zoom, Apple and other internet services. Swalwell’s congressional campaign also paid thousands to various airlines for flights.

Some of the more random charges in the FEC filing include a $273 charge to See’s Candles for gifts and a $186 charge to a shop in Salt Lake City called Spoonful of Comfort that sends care packages of chicken noodle soup.

According to the FEC, campaign funds can be used after an election for ‘winding down costs,’ including moving expenses, gifts and charitable donations.

Campaign funds may also be used for childcare expenses if a candidate is actively running for office.

Swalwell’s political career came crashing down last week when multiple women detailed alleged horrific encounters with the Democrat politician.

A former model and fashion software company owner, Lonna Drewes, accused Swalwell of rape in a news conference on Tuesday.

After the news broke, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that its Special Victims Bureau would be investigating the matter.

Swalwell has denied the allegations against him. He apologized in a statement for ‘mistakes in judgment’ from his past, but vowed to fight the claims against him.

His colleagues have come out in support of the alleged victims, including his former ally, Senator Ruben Gallego.

‘Eric Swalwell lied to all of us. He lied to the most powerful people in this country, and they trusted him,’ Gallego told reporters, adding, ‘That clouded my judgment.’

Swalwell has not been formally accused of misusing campaign funds. The Daily Mail has reached out to the FEC and Swalwell’s attorney for comment.

IDF Claims Recent Strike on Hezbollah Exceeds Destruction of 2024 Pager Attack

0

In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based group supported by Iran, experienced a major setback on April 8, according to Israeli officials. This came as their command structure within Lebanon faced severe disruption.

In a coordinated assault, explosions rocked Beirut, the Beqaa Valley, and southern Lebanon as approximately 50 Israeli aircraft launched attacks on over 100 Hezbollah sites. These targets, as identified by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), were not typical military assets like rocket launchers or weapons caches. Instead, they focused on the group’s critical operational hubs, including command centers, intelligence offices, and strategic planning locations for Hezbollah’s leadership.

This operation signified a significant shift in the conflict dynamics between Israel and Hezbollah, which intensified after March 2. The hostilities erupted when Hezbollah entered the fray to support Iran, following the targeted U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, which resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Since the outbreak of these hostilities, Hezbollah has launched rockets, drones, and anti-tank missiles targeting northern Israel. In retaliation, Israel has expanded its airstrikes and initiated a ground campaign in southern Lebanon.

Since then, Hezbollah has fired rockets, drones and anti-tank missiles into northern Israel, while Israel has responded with widening airstrikes and a ground offensive inside southern Lebanon.

“Within only a minute, the IDF eliminated 250 Hezbollah terrorists in three areas simultaneously,” the Israeli military said in a statement, adding the assessment is still ongoing.

Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, an IDF spokesman, told Fox News Digital the strike was the result of weeks of intelligence work.

Israeli intelligence agencies tracked Hezbollah operatives as they moved between apartments, offices and safe houses across Lebanon.

“The timing had to do with the preparations,” Shoshani said. “There was weeks of amazing intelligence.”

Asked whether the operation showed Israel still has deep penetration inside Hezbollah despite months of war, Shoshani pointed to the scale of the attack.

“The fact that we were able to find 250 terrorists hiding in different locations in Lebanon, many of them in locations for recent weeks, eliminating them in real time, I think the capabilities speak for themselves,” he said.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Wednesday’s strikes.

“The scale of the killing and destruction in Lebanon today is nothing short of horrific,” said United Nations Human Rights Chief Volker Türk. “Such carnage, within hours of agreeing to a ceasefire with Iran, defies belief.”

“This response will continue until the Israeli-American aggression against our country and our people ceases,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

The strike drew a comparison to the “beeper” operation in September 2024, when thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah operatives exploded almost simultaneously across Lebanon and Syria in an operation widely attributed to Israel.

The blasts killed more than 40 people and wounded roughly 4,000, according to Lebanese authorities, while Hezbollah later acknowledged that about 1,500 fighters were taken out of action. The operation shattered Hezbollah’s communications network and became the benchmark in Israel for a strike that fundamentally changed the battlefield.

“The beeper had more … effective injuries. That was the purpose of it,” Shoshani said. “But both targeted hundreds of terrorists and within 60 seconds.”

Like the beeper operation, he said, the April 8 strike was intended not just to kill operatives but to throw Hezbollah into disarray.

“It was important to the aspect of creating disarray, of breaking their chain of command, breaking their command and patrol capabilities and kind of tilting the organization out of balance,” he said.

A former Israeli intelligence official, speaking on background, said the strike may not have reached the level of the beeper operation, but it appeared to hit an unusually broad layer of Hezbollah’s middle ranks.

Hezbollah remains in shock from the blow, according to the former official, even if that has not yet been reflected in a drop in its rocket fire.

But he cautioned against judging the operation only by the number of people killed.

The real measure, he said, is whether the strike changes the course of the war and leaves Hezbollah less able to operate.

The IDF said many of those killed belonged to Hezbollah’s Radwan Force, Hezbollah’s most capable and best-trained combat unit, intelligence apparatus, missile units and aerial Unit 127.

The Israeli military said most of the targets were embedded inside civilian areas.

“Most of the infrastructure that was struck was located within the heart of the civilian population,” the IDF said.

Shoshani said Israel warned civilians to evacuate before the strikes, but Hezbollah moved its operatives into new civilian locations.

“When we gave the warnings for areas, civilians moved out, then Hezbollah saw that they moved out and started hiding behind civilians in new locations,” he said.

Despite the blow, Israeli officials say Hezbollah remains a major threat. Shoshani said the group, which before the war possessed between 150,000 and 200,000 rockets and missiles, still has the ability to fire into Israel.

“They still are a real threat for our civilians,” he said.

The strike comes as Israel and Lebanon opened their first direct talks in more than three decades at the U.S. State Department in Washington.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has signaled willingness to discuss normalization and the eventual disarmament of Hezbollah, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted there will be no ceasefire until Hezbollah is dismantled and pushed back from the border.

Within hours of the diplomatic opening, Israeli warplanes again struck Lebanon and Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel.

US Military Set to Board Iran-Linked Vessels Within Days

0

The United States military is gearing up to intercept Iran-linked ships and oil tankers in the coming days, marking a significant expansion of a conflict that has largely remained within the confines of the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative is set to widen the scope of enforcement on a global scale.

General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, revealed this strategic escalation on Thursday. His announcement was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials familiar with the situation.

In his statement, Caine emphasized that the U.S. “will actively pursue any Iranian-flagged vessel or any ship attempting to provide material support to Iran.”

“This action includes targeting ‘dark fleet’ vessels transporting Iranian oil,” Caine elaborated. “As many are aware, dark fleet vessels are those operating outside international regulations, sanctions, or insurance requirements.”

The operation, named Economic Fury, will be carried out in collaboration with the US Indo-Pacific Command. It aims to reinforce the existing US Navy blockade of all Iranian ports located in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

The US has already turned away 23 ships that have tried to leave Iranian ports, according to US Central Command.

This comes as the Iranian military has reasserted ‘strict control’ over the Strait of Hormuz, attacking several ships that have tried to pass through the narrow waterway on Saturday.

The strikes from Iran – which allegedly involved two Indian ships – came just a day after Iran’s foreign minister said the Strait of Hormuz was open to commercial traffic.

General Dan Caine announced on Thursday that the US military will actively pursue and board ships with ties to Iran or the country's illicit oil trade, according to US officials who spoke with The Wall Street Journal

President Donald Trump took the declaration from the foreign minister as genuine, announcing on Friday morning that the strait was ‘COMPLETELY OPEN AND READY FOR BUSINESS’.

Trump followed that up with a series of optimistic statements about negotiating an end to the war. He even said that Iran agreed to hand over its remaining supply of highly enriched uranium to the US, something Iran has denied.

Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, warned later on Friday that if the US blockade continued, ‘the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open’.

The blockade has continued and the Trump administration has not shown any signs of budging on any of Iran’s demands.

Trump is optimistic that the blockade, as well as intercepting Iran-flagged ships around the world, will eventually force the Iranians to the table by severely limiting imports into the country.

Previously, Iran’s stranglehold over the Strait of Hormuz was a tactical advantage, allowing them to skyrocket global oil and gas prices. Roughly 20 percent of the world’s daily oil supply passes through the strait, making it a vital chokepoint.

The president’s strategy to cut off Iran from the world market is quite similar to what he has done with Cuba by heavily restricting the oil flowing into the country.

Like in Iran, he is seeking regime change in the island nation, which has been under communist rule since Fidel Castro came to power in 1959.

Meanwhile, Iran has also been taking steps to resume the war, retrieving underground missile launchers and readying its medium- to short-range payloads

The push to increase economic pressure comes as a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the US is set to expire next week.

Peace talks held last weekend in Pakistan failed to produce a breakthrough or any permanent halt in hostilities between the two sides. Another round of negotiations has not been scheduled.

Both sides have been taking precautions in case fighting resumes, with Iran retaining thousands of medium- and short-range missiles. The country is also retrieving launchers from underground storage areas, many of them buried within mountainous regions.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said US forces are ‘maximally postured’ to pick up where they left off if diplomacy fails.

Hegseth has also said striking Iran’s power plants are still an option, even though experts say that would be against international law. The move could also invite Iran to retaliate by bombing energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab countries allied with the US.

Trump administration officials are reportedly loath to use ground troops, something that would lead to US service members dying and a potential backlash from the American public.

Trump and his allies have largely settled on the economic pressure campaign as the way forward.

As part of Economic Fury, the Treasury Department announced Wednesday that it had sanctioned even more companies and individuals with ties to ‘Iran’s illicit oil transportation infrastructure’.

The newly-sanctioned ships and firms are controlled by oil shipping magnate Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani is the son of Ali Shamkhani, a top security adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Ali Shamkhani was killed along with the Iranian leader in the Israeli airstrike in late February that started the war.

There are hundreds of sanctioned Iranian-linked vessels that could now be boarded or intercepted by the US military.

It could mirror how the US Navy interdicted at least seven oil vessels with ties to Venezuela both before and after Nicolas Maduro was captured in a late-night operation in early January.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has also said he will prosecute anyone who buys or sells sanctioned Iranian oil.

Discover the Affordable Ice Bath Revolution: Aldi’s £24.99 Sensation for Soothing Aches

0

Standing beside the ice bath, plunging in was the last thing I wanted to do. Yet, with the memory of the Rome Marathon still fresh and my muscles aching from the grueling run, I knew it was necessary.

As I hesitated, the thought of my weary muscles finally convinced me to take the plunge. The moment I submerged my legs, an involuntary scream escaped me, akin to a child stepping on a stray LEGO piece.

The ice bath delivers a sudden jolt to an athlete’s metabolic system, combating delayed onset muscle soreness. After pounding the pavement for 26.2 miles, my muscles were crying out for relief.

While I don’t claim to be a professional athlete, I do enjoy maintaining an active lifestyle. These days, you don’t need to be a legendary Portuguese striker scoring for Real Madrid to benefit from the restorative powers of an ice bath.

Now, I’m no athlete, but I do like to dabble in my fair share of exercise. And these days, you don’t need to be a record-breaking Portuguese striker, banging in goals for Real Madrid, just to get your hands on an ice bath.

Daily Mail Sport reporter Harry Bamforth tested out ALDI’s viral £24.99 after running a marathon

The ice bath is a budget-friendly option but more than does the job that cold plunges should do

The ice bath is a budget-friendly option but more than does the job that cold plunges should do

I managed to secure ALDI’s viral £24.99 ice bath that took the internet by storm when it was released last May. My curiosity over this little tub was rife. I needed to use it, not only for the good of my knackered legs, but also to scratch the itch.

It had been 10 years since I last tried cold exposure therapy, back when I was a swimmer and a hotel bathtub would do.

These days, though, cold plunges cost a pretty penny. I have seen tubs with all the bells and whistles going in the hundreds, sometimes even thousands of pounds. Somehow, a simple ice bath is becoming inaccessible.

This is where ALDI steps in. Their ice bath – which, after a hiatus, returned to stores in early March – is a budget-friendly option that more than just does the job.

First of all, it’s easy to build. The box tells you it takes 20 minutes to put together, but after taking all the bits and bobs out into my garden, I was able to knock it up in less than five minutes.

It’s also a really sturdy bit of kit. I had seen videos of cheap ice baths falling over once filled up, and that had me worried, but this bath didn’t budge. The legs provided keep the bath stable, even when putting weight on the upper blown-up rim (which is what I did when I was desperate to haul myself out of it).

It’s portable, puncture-resistant, a decent size, and even comes with a cover. Simple but effective.

But above all, away from the low price and surprising stability, it does the job just as well as most ice baths. In an era when even a coffee will cost you a small fortune, you don’t always need to go with the more expensive option to ensure effective recovery.

However, if you are to purchase this bit of kit, I hope you have a hose on hand. Personally, I don’t own one, and it took roughly half an hour to fill the bath with just a kitchen tap, two buckets, and six bags of ice.

The bath is a decent size, sturdy, portable, and puncture-resistant - simple but effective

While the experience took Bamforth's breath away it also had an immediate impact on his recovery

While the experience took Bamforth’s breath away it also had an immediate impact on his recovery

While my experience in the ice bath had me quivering from the second I dipped my toe in, and took my breath away to the point I felt like I could barely talk – yes, I know I’m dramatic – it also had an immediate impact on my recovery.

Once the shock and shaking had subsided, I fell into a state of euphoria. My mind was clear, and my legs felt as though they were normal again, at last.

And this was despite my using the ice bath slightly wrong. I was in it for roughly 30 seconds, which is over two minutes less than the recommended time frame. Also, I dipped my head under the water, which is also not advised.

To ensure ultimate recovery, the ice bath should be used two to three times a week, and for two to three minutes per usage. If you’re feeling frisky, you can even use it twice in quick succession.

So, taking all that into consideration, the £24.99 price tag on ALDI’s ice bath is quite remarkable. If you use it twice a week for a whole year, then it works out to be 24p per usage.

The perfect option for exercise enthusiasts who love a bargain and own a hose.

Dylan Sprouse Heroically Confronts Home Intruder with Firearm: Exclusive Details

Dylan Sprouse recently faced a frightening situation when an intruder allegedly broke into the home he shares with his wife, Barbara Palvin.

Reports indicate that the 33-year-old actor encountered the intruder at their Hollywood Hills residence in Los Angeles on Friday, April 17. The incident was initially reported by TMZ.

As detailed by The Los Angeles Times, Sprouse managed to subdue the individual on their lawn after Palvin, who is 32, spotted the “suspicious man.” She promptly called 911 around 12:30 a.m., reporting a potential burglary attempt.

The actor, known for his role in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, allegedly armed himself and held the intruder until law enforcement arrived, according to TMZ, citing anonymous sources.

Dylan Sprouse and Barbara Palvin Relationship Timeline

Dylan Sprouse and Barbara Palvin have been in a committed relationship since June 2018, although their journey began with some initial hesitance. In a February 2019 interview with W Magazine, Palvin shared, “I knew I wasn’t in a good mindset at the time, and maybe deep inside I knew it could be something more,” reflecting on their early days together.

Police reportedly told The Times that the suspect was taken in on outstanding warrants and that no injuries were reported. Per the outlet, the intruder made it on to the property but not inside the couple’s house.

Us Weekly has reached out to Sprouse’s representatives for comment.

Sprouse first met Victoria’s Secret model Palvin at a party in 2017 and “clicked” but their romance got off to a slow start when she ignored his subsequent DM message for six months.

“I was very scared,” Palvin told British Vogue in February 2020. “I had this thought in the back, like, ‘Oh, but wait … are we going to get paparazzi’ed all the time?’”

After making their relationship official in 2018, the couple moved in together in Brooklyn in January 2019. Their relationship soared to new heights when Sprouse proposed in September 2022.

Sprouse and Palvin spoke about their engagement in a June 2023 interview with V Magazine.

“For me, at least, marriage is a promise of kind of loving you endlessly and being your partner. I’m nervous about the event,” Sprouse told the outlet. “Frankly, it’s about the first dance. I’m nervous about a choreographed dance.”

For her part, Palvin admitted that the engagement was more nerve-racking than the marriage itself even though she knew he was The One from the beginning.

“I mean, a man has time to prepare for the proposal — Dylan kept the ring for seven months before he asked the question — but for me, it was right then and there,” she said. “I knew since we started dating that I want to marry him, but it’s a big decision.”

In an interview with Vogue published in July 2023, Palvin recalled Sprouse’s proposal, which took place during a camping trip in California.

“It was very romantic,” she told the outlet. “I was suspicious and thought he might pop the question because he packed a shirt that was too nice for camping.”

The couple ultimately tied the knot in Albertirsa, Hungary in July 2023, exchanging vows at the same church where Palvin’s parents got married more than three decades earlier.

Sirens’ Playoff Dreams Diminish After Another Defeat on the Road Against the Charge

0

OTTAWA, Ontario — In a commanding performance, Brianne Jenner notched a goal and two assists, while Jocelyne Larocque contributed a goal and an assist, propelling the Ottawa Charge to a 5-1 victory over the New York Sirens on Saturday.

Ronja Savolainen, Peyton Hemp, and Rebecca Leslie also found the back of the net, while Gwyneth Phillips was solid in goal, making 23 saves for the Charge, who now stand at 8-7-1-12. This win gives Ottawa a five-point cushion over both the Sirens and the Toronto Sceptres for the fourth and final playoff berth, with just two games left in the regular season.

Paetyn Levis scored the lone goal for the Sirens (9-2-3-1), with Kayle Osborne stopping 24 shots. Despite starting strong with a power-play goal from Levis midway through the first period, New York’s road woes continued. Levis capitalized on a pass in the slot, beating Phillips on the stick side, but it wasn’t enough to halt their troubling road streak, now at 0-0-1-7 in their last eight away games.

Paetyn Levis scored for the Sirens (9-2-3-1) and Kayle Osborne made 24 saves.

New York, which is 0-0-1-7 in its last eight road games, opened the scoring with a power-play goal midway through the first period when Levis took a pass in the slot and beat Philips on the stick side.

With 61 seconds remaining in the period, Jenner attempted to find Leslie in front, but the puck was redirected and went in off Leslie’s shoulder. The play underwent a lengthy review before the call was upheld.

The Charge took the lead at 7:54 of the second period.

Larocque blocked a shot to spark a short-handed rush as Jenner picked up the puck and broke in on Osborne. She gave up a big rebound that Larocque buried for her first of the season.

Just over six minutes later, Hemp won a race for the puck and knocked it free.

That allowed Alexa Vasko to take possession and she sent it back to Hemp, who gave the Charge a 3-1 lead.

Ottawa, which visits Boston on Wednesday, scored a pair of goals in the third to put the game out of reach. The Sirens next play Toronto on Tuesday

Savolainen scored from just inside the blue line through traffic. Larocque had a shot ring off the crossbar and Jenner buried the rebound.

Heavy Rainfall Intensifies Flood Warnings for Des Plaines River, Fox River, and Chain O’Lakes in Lake County

0

In Lake County, Illinois, recent rainfall on Friday night has heightened concerns about potential flooding. Local officials announced on Saturday that the Des Plaines River, Fox River, and Chain O’Lakes are especially vulnerable to rising water levels.

Observations from Chopper 7 on Friday revealed flooding near the Fox River in the unincorporated area of Antioch, with additional water accumulation reported in Lincolnshire. Officials anticipate that the Des Plaines River will reach its peak over the weekend.

In Lincolnshire, a northern suburb, the community is still on alert despite the cessation of rain, as there is a lingering threat that the river levels may continue to climb.

Residents of Oxford Drive in Lincolnshire expressed relief on Saturday as their area narrowly avoided flood damage. The neighborhood remained dry, much to the residents’ comfort.

“The last time we experienced flooding was in 2017,” recounted local resident Ludwig Smith. “Back then, the roads were completely submerged, and the river rose to a height of 16 feet.”

Many eyes are still on the Des Plaines River in the north suburb after a large stretch of Lincolnshire Drive and Londonderry Lane was under flood water, made worse because of ongoing construction.

Pumps to remove rain runoff will remain in place throughout the weekend in areas along the Des Plaines River that are prone to flood.

Meanwhile, local and county officials say they are monitoring river levels, which are close to cresting and could cause major flooding.

“Yeah, things aren’t great right now, they are gonna get a little worse the waters are gonna get a little higher,” said Brian Frank, Lake County Stormwater Management Commission chief engineer “Thankfully there’s usually some lead time with rivering flooding. The rivering flooding is typically in Lake County days, so be prepared.”

The village’s public works department is providing sandbags to anyone who wants them.

The Des Plaines River is expected to crest in this area at about 15 feet either sometime over the weekend or even Monday.

Tragic Shooting at Queens Basketball Court: NYC Teen Killed, Police Seek Suspect as Witnesses Capture Incident on Video

0

Law enforcement officials in New York City are actively seeking the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old in Queens.

Jaden Pierre became the victim of gun violence when he was confronted by a group of teenagers on a basketball court at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens. The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, with a single shot fired that struck Pierre in the chest, as reported by the New York Police Department (NYPD).

He was transported urgently to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition before he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

This tragic event took place in a public park, a common gathering place for teenagers to play basketball, and highlights the ongoing struggle with youth violence in New York City, often amplified by the pervasive reach of social media.

The NYPD continues its search for Jaden Pierre’s assailant, following reports of the fatal gunshot wound to his chest.

One witness told CBS News, “I came over here, I heard a shot go off, so I came running over here to make sure everybody was okay, especially my friends, and I seen a kid lying dead. And I know him from coming over here to play basketball. Good basketball player, cool kid.”

Videos circulating on X appear to show moments leading up to the shooting, with a crowd surrounding Pierre and another person as the teenager is repeatedly punched before the group quickly disperses.

As of Saturday, no arrests have been made, but the NYPD told Fox News Digital it released photos of a person wanted in connection with the shooting.

New York Attorney General Letitia James reacted to the killing in a post on X, writing, “My heart is heavy tonight after we lost a 15-year-old to a senseless act of gun violence. I’m praying for his family, loved ones, and community. I will continue to work tirelessly every day to end gun violence in New York.”

Pastor Cory Brooks, founder of Project H.O.O.D., said in a statement to Fox News Digital that his heart was “shattered” as he condemned the crowd for filming the attack instead of stepping in.

“A 15-year-old child was hunted down, beaten, and shot dead in cold blood,” Brooks wrote. “In a playground. Where laughter belongs. Not execution.”

His statement continued: “The crowd did not run for help. They pulled out phones, recorded every brutal second, and cheered as if it were entertainment. That video does not just document a murder — it exposes a generation whose conscience has been seared by moral darkness. These were our own children devouring our own children.”

The NYPD is asking anyone with information about the shooter to call its Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish.

A woman from Florida has been released on bond following an alleged attempt to harm her boyfriend during a dispute over a television, according to local law enforcement.

Teariney Dixon, aged 37, was taken into custody on April 11, linked to a domestic disturbance at her boyfriend’s residence in Tallahassee, Florida. As detailed in a probable cause affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, the incident unfolded when the boyfriend contacted the authorities, reporting that Dixon was “wrecking his apartment” and that the situation had escalated into physical violence.

Upon arrival, officers from the Tallahassee Police Department described the apartment as being covered in blood.

The boyfriend declined medical attention, informing the officers that Dixon had “attacked him with a knife.” The affidavit states that the altercation began when the boyfriend accused Dixon of infidelity. Angered by the accusation, he demanded that she vacate the premises, to which she refused.

The affidavit further reveals that the boyfriend recorded the entire ordeal, including the verbal clash and the alleged physical altercation, using surveillance cameras inside his home. The footage reportedly shows Dixon striking her boyfriend in the face and subsequently barring him from re-entering his apartment following the heated argument.

After the boyfriend kicked his own door down to get back inside, Dixon was allegedly wielding a kitchen knife with a 5- to 7-inch blade. While holding the knife, Dixon was heard saying that she would not leave the apartment without things she believed were rightfully hers, including a black purse and a TV. The boyfriend told Dixon the purse was his because he bought it for her, so he grabbed it and poured out the contents.

Dixon then allegedly started making slashing motions at her boyfriend with the knife, cutting his finger. While still holding the knife, Dixon grabbed her boyfriend by his hair and tried sawing off his dreadlocks, police said. In response, the boyfriend removed Dixon’s wig. At some point, police said he was able to get the knife away from Dixon and bring it back to the kitchen.

Dixon then gathered her belongings and went home.

Police tracked Dixon down the same night and questioned her at her apartment. After being read her rights, Dixon allegedly provided a truncated version of what transpired at her boyfriend’s apartment, but corroborated the story that they had argued over which items belonged to whom. Police said she claimed that she did not remember what happened and denied that she tried to kill her boyfriend.

Dixon was arrested at her home and charged with attempted murder. She was booked into the Tallahassee Detention Center on April 11 and posted bond the following day. Her next court date was not available.

5 Powerful Standing Exercises to Boost Leg Strength Post-60 Faster Than Squats

0

As we age, particularly past the age of 60, maintaining leg strength becomes crucial—not just for fitness, but for everyday functionality and independence. While squats have long been hailed as a go-to exercise for leg strengthening, they may not be the most effective option for older adults. The decline in leg strength often stems from a lack of engaging the muscles in ways that mirror real-life activities. This is where standing exercises come into play.

Over the years, I have worked with numerous older adults, and I’ve observed that progress is most noticeable when individuals engage in standing movements. These exercises are highly effective because they require the body to stabilize itself, shift weight, and produce force in various directions, which is far more reflective of daily activities than traditional squats.

Standing exercises engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously, including the quadriceps, glutes, and calves. They also demand core stability, which is essential for building strength that is practical and usable in everyday life. This kind of strength is what allows individuals to climb stairs, walk longer distances, and move with greater confidence and ease.

Another key aspect of effective leg strengthening is control. Performing exercises slowly and deliberately enhances muscle engagement by increasing the time muscles are under tension. This deliberate approach ensures that the right muscles are being worked and contributes to faster strength gains than sporadic squat sessions might offer.

For those over 60 seeking to improve their leg strength, incorporating standing exercises into their routine can offer significant benefits. When practiced consistently, these movements not only help rebuild strength but also improve balance, coordination, and overall movement efficiency.

The following movements target the entire lower body while reinforcing balance and coordination. Stay tall, move with control, and focus on pushing through your legs during every rep.

Alternating Step-Backs

Alternating step-backs build strength through controlled movement while reducing joint stress. I rely on this exercise because it strengthens the legs without the forward pressure that often bothers the knees during traditional lunges. Stepping backward shifts the workload into the glutes and quads while allowing you to maintain better alignment.

Each step forces the front leg to stabilize and generate force as you return to standing. Moving slowly keeps the muscles under tension and improves coordination. Over time, this exercise builds strength that carries directly into walking, climbing stairs, and standing up with ease.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart
  • Step one foot backward
  • Bend both knees slightly
  • Push through the front foot to return
  • Alternate sides steadily.

Standing Sit-Back (Hip Hinge to Stand)

This movement trains the hips and glutes to generate power without placing excessive strain on the knees. I include it often because many people lose the ability to hinge properly, which limits strength and increases stress on the joints. Restoring this pattern rebuilds strength quickly.

Pushing the hips back while keeping the chest up forces the glutes to engage deeply. Returning to standing requires those same muscles to drive the movement. When performed slowly, the muscles stay under tension longer, which improves strength and control.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Push your hips back as if sitting
  • Keep your chest lifted
  • Drive through your heels to stand
  • Repeat with control.

Standing Calf Raises With Hold

Calf strength plays a major role in walking, balance, and endurance. I’ve seen many clients struggle with leg fatigue simply because their calves lack strength and control. That’s why I always include this movement, it restores the foundation of lower-body strength.

Rising onto your toes and holding at the top forces the calf muscles to stay fully engaged. Lowering slowly increases time under tension, which helps rebuild strength more effectively. Over time, stronger calves improve push-off power and overall stability.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart
  • Rise onto your toes
  • Hold for 2–3 seconds
  • Lower slowly
  • Repeat steadily.

Lateral Step-Outs

This exercise strengthens the hips and outer thighs while improving side-to-side stability. I use it often because many people lose strength in lateral movement, which affects balance and increases fall risk. Training this direction restores control and coordination.

Stepping out to the side forces the standing leg to stabilize and control the movement. Bringing the foot back in requires the muscles to engage again. Slow, controlled reps keep tension on the muscles and improve overall strength.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with feet together
  • Step one foot out to the side
  • Keep your torso upright
  • Bring the foot back in slowly
  • Alternate sides.

Standing Knee Drives With Power

This final movement ties together strength, balance, and coordination. I often finish routines with this exercise because it builds power in the legs while reinforcing core stability. That combination leads to better overall movement.

Driving the knee upward forces the standing leg to stabilize while the core engages to keep the body upright. Performing the movement with control ensures the muscles stay active throughout. Over time, this improves strength, balance, and confidence in movement.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart
  • Drive one knee upward
  • Keep your core tight
  • Lower slowly
  • Alternate legs.
