Trump Escalates Feud with Pope Leo XIV Over Iran War: A Historic Clash with America’s First Pontiff

WASHINGTON – On Sunday, President Donald Trump launched a social media offensive against Pope Leo XIV, urging the first American pope to “stop catering to the Radical Left.”

This pointed critique on social media intensified an ongoing dispute between the two leaders that originated from their differing views on the conflict in Iran.

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump stated in his online post, marking a significant escalation in their public disagreement.

Following his comments, Trump addressed reporters upon arriving at Joint Base Andrews via Air Force One.

“I don’t think he’s doing a very good job,” Trump remarked, further clarifying his stance by stating, “I’m not a fan of Pope Leo.”

Trump’s post followed Leo having denounced over the weekend the “delusion of omnipotence” that is fueling the U.S.-Israel war in Iran and demanded political leaders stop and negotiate peace.

Leo presided over an evening prayer service in St. Peter’s Basilica on the same day the United States and Iran began face-to-face negotiations in Pakistan during a fragile ceasefire.

The U.S.-born pope didn’t mention the United States or Trump by name in his prayer. But Leo’s tone and message appeared directed at Trump and U.S. officials, who have boasted of U.S. military superiority and justified the war in religious terms.

Iran’s Warning: Potential New Global Chokepoint Emerges as ‘Gate of Tears’ Faces Threat Amid US-Iran Tensions Over Hormuz

0

A senior Middle East analyst cautioned on Sunday that Iran may retaliate against a proposed U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by leveraging its Houthi allies to disrupt another essential maritime route. This potential escalation could target the Bab al-Mandeb strait, a crucial passage that connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. This narrow chokepoint is responsible for approximately 12% of global oil shipments, serving as a pivotal trade link between Asia and Europe.

The strategic importance of the Bab al-Mandeb makes it a likely focus for any retaliatory actions by Iran, which could further exacerbate tensions in the already fragile global energy markets. Mona Yacoubian, the director and senior adviser at the Middle East Program, noted the potential consequences of such a move. “If the U.S. goes ahead with its blockade plan, Iran might respond by ensuring that Gulf countries face similar export challenges,” Yacoubian explained in an interview with Fox News Digital.

An aerial image of the Bab al-Mandeb strait highlights its strategic significance, showcasing the vital waterway and its surrounding terrain. This photograph underscores the potential impact on global trade and energy supplies if tensions in the region escalate further.

“This could translate to further attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure or even deploying the Houthis to blockade the Bab al-Mandeb,” Yacoubian added.

Yacoubian’s remarks came after Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser on international affairs to Iran’s Supreme Leader, signaled Tehran’s view of the Bab al-Mandeb in light of potential U.S. action to block the Strait of Hormuz.

“Today, the unified command of the Resistance front views Bab al-Mandeb as it does Hormuz,” he said in a post on X.

“If the White House dares to repeat its foolish mistakes, it will soon realize that the flow of global energy and trade can be disrupted with a single move.”

U.S. Central Command released a statement Sunday saying the naval blockade would begin Monday and be “enforced against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.”

President Donald Trump also said the U.S. Navy would block “any and all ships trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz” in a post on Truth Social.

In March, the U.S. warned ships at the Red Sea chokepoint of Houthi attacks

“The Houthis continue to pose a threat to U.S. assets, including commercial vessels, in this region,” a maritime advisory said of the Iran-backed armed group that controls much of northern Yemen.

“Potential hostile actions include one-way unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks; unmanned surface vehicle (USV) attacks; unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) attacks; ballistic and cruise missile attacks; small arms fire from small boats; explosive boat attacks; and illegal boardings, detentions, and/or seizures,” it said.

“U.S.-flagged commercial vessels operating in these areas are strongly advised to turn off their AIS transponders,” the advisory stated.

Yacoubian also determined in a Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) report that Iran was threatening to expand the conflict further to the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb compounding global market disruptions.

“It could leverage the Houthis, its Yemeni proxy, to once again wage attacks on the strategic waterway, depriving Saudi Arabia of its key workaround for oil shipments given the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz,” she added.

The Houthis joined Iran’s war against the U.S. and Israel on March 28 when the organization launched two ballistic missiles at southern Israel. Both were intercepted.

Britney Spears Shares Unconventional Dance Video Just Before Rehab Announcement

Just hours before entering rehab, Britney Spears was seen showcasing her dance skills with a captivating Instagram post.

At 44, the pop icon voluntarily sought treatment on Sunday, shortly after her DUI arrest last month, according to her representative who confirmed the news to Page Six.

In a striking video shared on social media, Spears donned a sheer black thong bodysuit, revealing her energetic dance routine. The video caught attention as she appeared on the verge of a wardrobe mishap while energetically moving to the music and holding her top in place.

As the clip progressed, Spears playfully slapped her backside, flaunting her bare back with confidence.

Her dance session was set to the upbeat track “I Like It” by Cardi B, J Balvin, and Bad Bunny, with Spears accessorizing her look with a vibrant red hat and knee-high black boots.

Later in the video, she ditched her red hat and let her long blond hair flow free as she wiggled her rear end for the camera.

She also posted herself dipping her fingers in a bowl of water and flowers on Saturday, writing, “Touch 🇯🇵.”

On March 4, Spears was taken into custody after authorities saw her swerving in and out of lanes. They also allegedly discovered an unknown substance inside her car during her arrest and she is believed to have been on a cocktail of alcohol and drugs.

She was released the following morning, per arrest records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Spears has not remained quiet on social media. On Friday, she shared video of herself dancing in a bright yellow lingerie set and a black fedora.

After her DUI arrest, she also posted videos and photos of her spending time with her two sons — Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.

Following her arrest, a source close to the “Toxic” singer told Page Six that both her sons, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, were offering their support.

Discover the Affordable Charm: Unfinished Quonset Hut-Style Home for Sale in Maine Under $300K

0

Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Maine, a partially completed Quonset hut-style home is on the market, searching for a resourceful buyer with a vision to complete this unique dwelling. This property promises vast potential for those ready to infuse their creativity into it.

Though this home might not appeal to everyone, especially those without the necessary tools and a vivid imagination, its remarkably low asking price of $270,000 is likely to attract buyers who can envision its transformation from an empty shell into a remarkable living space.

The listing describes this striking Quonset hut-style residence as a “handyman special,” ideal for anyone looking to craft a personalized vacation retreat or develop a lucrative Airbnb opportunity.

Situated in the vibrant lake region of Shapleigh, this unfinished home rests on an expansive 11.79-acre lot. It offers the tranquility of nature with its proximity to Square Pond and Mousam Lake, alongside the convenience of nearby urban amenities.

Ezra Hodgson, the listing agent from The Zoeller Group at Keller Williams Coastal and Lakes & Mountains Realty, highlights the property’s allure: “The future owner will enjoy access to numerous ponds and lakes, as well as a wealth of hiking trails, all while being conveniently close to shopping and other necessities.”

While 75% of the construction is already complete, the remainder provides a “blank canvas” for the next buyer’s finishing touches, although they will first need to finish the installation of the electric, plumbing, and insulation before they can embark on creating their own aesthetic for the home.

“Septic and well are in, hooked up, and functional,” Hodgson notes. “Framing is almost completed. Custom white maple kitchen cabinets are already installed. A buyer will need to complete running electrical and plumbing, then insulation and drywall, and their finish work like fixtures, trim, decks, etc.”

The 1,792-square-foot “handyman special” boasts a distinctive exterior with arched metal design in keeping with the traditional quonset hut style, which was inspired by a military structure called the Nissen hut used by British forces during World War I.

After the war, the style was adopted by American troops stationed at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island—from which the huts now take their name—who worked to advance the design, making it lighter, more flexible, and faster to build.

According to Innovation & Technology magazine, an estimated 170,000 quonset huts were built by the Americans during World War II, and when that conflict came to an end in 1945, the surplus structures were passed to civilians, who began using them as prefabricated vacation residences, storage units, and even guesthouses.

While they have since fallen out of style somewhat, the structures continue to be favored for their ease of construction—and their multifaceted design, which allows for all kinds of personalizations, much like the unfinished dwelling in Maine.

Inside, an open-concept floor plan features high ceilings, multiple sliding glass doors, and a loft area that could be transformed into a primary suite or additional living space.

The listing features several staged images that paint a stunning picture of what the home could look like, if someone is willing to invest in its completion.

Hodgson says its location and the “ability to finish it into exactly what a buyer wants” are some of the home’s most impressive features.

The 1,700-square-foot property is configured with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, although the construction process is not so far along that a future buyer couldn’t alter that layout.

“The interior framing is largely in place, showing a thoughtful layout that includes a kitchen area already equipped with quality solid wood cabinetry,” the listing notes.

“The bathroom is started with a vanity, toilet, and shower pan partially installed. A spacious loft area provides excellent potential for a primary suite or additional living space overlooking the main floor.”

Hodgson believes the next owner might be seeking “the perfect blueprint for their vacation home. They could be someone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, and take advantage of the peace and quiet that the woods of Maine have to offer, or maybe it’s an investor who just found their perfect short-term rental opportunity.”

The spacious property also has a storage shed for tools and outdoor gear, and connects to a series of recreation trails at the end of the driveway.

The sale also includes shared rights to a private beach on Square Pond, however Hodgson notes that any additional plans should only be carried out with the necessary due diligence.

“We would encourage any buyer to do their due diligence with the town of Shapleigh when determining if the property could be subdivided and subsequently built on,” Hodgson added.

Cuban President Cautions U.S. Against Island Aggression and Leadership Overthrow Attempts

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has asserted that there is no legitimate reason for the United States to launch a military assault on Cuba or to seek his overthrow.

During an appearance on NBC News’ Meet the Press, Díaz-Canel emphasized that any invasion of Cuba would come at a great cost and destabilize regional security. He assured that if such an event occurred, the Cuban people would stand ready to defend their nation.

“There would be no justification for the U.S. to commit military aggression against Cuba or to conduct a targeted operation to abduct a president,” Díaz-Canel declared, using a translator to communicate his message.

He continued, “Should this scenario unfold, we will resist and fight back. If necessary, we are prepared to sacrifice our lives, as our national anthem proclaims, ‘To die for our homeland is to live’.”

These remarks arise amid ongoing strained relations between Cuba and the United States, even as both nations have acknowledged engaging in discussions, though specifics have not been disclosed.

Díaz-Canel has accused the U.S. government of implementing a “hostile policy” against Cuba and said it has “no moral to demand anything from Cuba.” He noted that Cuba is interested in engaging in dialogue and discussing any topic without conditions, “not demanding changes from our political system as we are not demanding change from the American system, about which we have a number of doubts.”

Cuba blames a U.S. energy blockade for its deepening woes, with a lack of petroleum affecting the island’s health system, public transportation and the production of goods and services.

Cuba produces only 40% of the fuel it consumes, and it stopped receiving key oil shipments from Venezuela after the U.S. military attacked the South American country in early January, seized President Nicolás Maduro and took him to New York to face drug trafficking charges. Then, with cooperation from ruling party leaders, the Trump administration began implementing a phased plan to end Venezuela’s entrenched crisis.

The arrival of a Russian tanker carrying 730,000 barrels of crude oil in Cuba in March marked the island’s first oil shipment in three months. Russia has promised to send a second tanker.

Despite threatening tariffs in January on countries that sell or provide oil to Cuba, the Trump administration allowed the tanker to proceed.

“Cuba’s finished,” President Donald Trump said at the time. “They have a bad regime. They have very bad and corrupt leadership and whether or not they get a boat of oil, it’s not going to matter.”

Díaz-Canel said his government takes Trump’s words as a warning.

“You hear that Cuba is next, that Cuba is going to be next, that there are, there’s a way out, that they’re going to take over Cuba,” he said. “So, from the position of responsibility within the leadership of the country, that is a warning. And we need to responsibly protect our people, protect our project and protect our country.”
