Iran War Ends: Trump Declares Peace as Vance Initiates Diplomatic Talks

0

In a significant development, President Donald Trump has announced that the conflict with Iran has concluded. This declaration comes as the White House gears up for a potential second round of peace negotiations with Iranian representatives, slated to take place in Pakistan.

Maria Bartiromo from Fox Business shared an intriguing tidbit after her visit to the White House on Tuesday evening. She released a brief video previewing her forthcoming interview with the president, which is scheduled to air on Wednesday morning.

During her visit, Bartiromo had an enlightening exchange with President Trump. “One thing that I’ll leave you with,” she recounted to her audience, “I asked him, ‘Mr. President, you keep referring to the war as if it’s in the past, using terms like ‘was, was, was.’ I asked, ‘Is it over?’ and he confirmed, ‘It’s over.'”

This unexpected revelation coincides with reports suggesting that President Trump is contemplating dispatching Vice President JD Vance back to Pakistan. The objective would be to engage in another round of peace discussions with Iranian officials, aiming to solidify the newfound peace.

The shocking announcement came amid reports that the president is considering sending Vice President JD Vance back to Pakistan for a second round of peace talks with Iranian officials.

The vice president previously met with Iranian authorities in Islamabad on Saturday to discuss a deal to end the war during the two-week ceasefire agreed upon by both sides.

But those negotiations ended without any deal after the Iranians pushed for the right to enrich uranium for 20 years, Trump has said.

Still, Vance – along with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner – have been continuing to engage with Iranians and their intermediaries, CNN reports.

Amid these discussions, Trump administration officials are said to be drawing up plans for a second round of peace talks.

‘Further talks are under discussion, but nothing has been scheduled at this time,’ an unidentified US official told CNN.

Yet Trump had earlier told the New York Post that ‘something could be happening’ over the next two days, before the ceasefire deal expires.

The president had reportedly been weighing three different options to force Iran back to the negotiating table, including holding off on direct military strikes while maintaining a significant US military presence in the region.

His other options involve limited military action, such as targeted strikes on the regime’s nuclear, ballistic missile, and energy facilities.

The final option is a maximalist strategy aimed at overthrowing the regime by carrying out attacks against senior Iranian leadership.

However, the president appears reluctant to restart a full bombing campaign, wary that it would further inflame tensions in the region, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Sources say the escalation risks widening the war across the Middle East, even as economic strain rises in the US amid President Trump’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz – a narrow waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passes.

Since the start of the war, US gas prices have been above $4 nationwide and global oil prices have been past $100 a barrel.

Moreover, US wholesale prices surged last month as the war drove up the cost of energy.

The Labor Department reported Tuesday that its producer price index – which measures inflation before it hits consumers – rose 0.5 percent from February and four percent from March 2025.

The situation may now grow even more fraught, as Saudi Arabia has warned Trump that Iran may shut down the Middle East’s remaining oil routes in retaliation for his naval blockade.

Riyadh fears Tehran could deploy its Houthi proxy in Yemen to disrupt the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a critical artery carrying 10 percent of global trade between Asia and European markets via the Suez Canal.

Trump is now facing mounting pressure from Riyadh to lift the Hormuz blockade and return to negotiations with Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, warned on April 5 that Iran ‘views Bab al-Mandeb as it does Hormuz.’

If Washington ‘dares to repeat its foolish mistakes, it will soon realize that the flow of global energy and trade can be disrupted with a single move,’ he added.

Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, also warned Tehran could throttle the Bab al-Mandeb, Arabic for ‘Gate of Tears,’ a stretch notorious for its treacherous navigation.

‘What share of global oil, gas, wheat, rice, and fertilizer shipments transits the Bab al-Mandeb Strait?’ he asked on April 3. ‘Which countries and companies account for the highest transit volumes through the strait?’

Top 6 Early Warning Signs of Liver Disease in Women You Shouldn’t Ignore

0

Many women often dismiss symptoms like fatigue or bloating as part of the natural aging process, but these could actually be early indicators of liver disease. This silent health threat currently affects more than 100 million Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Early detection is crucial for effective treatment, as the liver plays a key role in detoxifying the body, aiding digestion, and regulating hormones. This article highlights expert advice to help identify potential liver issues before they escalate.

Liver Disease Symptoms in Women: 6 Red Flags to Spot Early

What Is Liver Disease?

Liver disease encompasses any condition that damages this essential organ, which is responsible for filtering blood, storing energy, and producing vital proteins. “The liver has an incredible ability to compensate for damage, often until it’s too late,” explains Dr. Joseph Lim, the director of clinical hepatology and digestive diseases at Yale School of Medicine.

Consider the case of Sarah, a 45-year-old teacher who ignored her mild discomfort for years, only to later be diagnosed with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Currently the most prevalent type of liver disease in the U.S., NAFLD affects 30% of adults, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Without proper intervention, 20% of these cases could progress to cirrhosis.

Common Types of Liver Disease

Liver diseases affect women in unique ways, influenced by hormonal and autoimmune factors.

  • Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): This condition is characterized by fat accumulation in the liver, often linked to obesity or diabetes. Women who are post-menopausal are at a higher risk of developing this disease.

  • Alcoholic Liver Disease: From excess drinking; women metabolize alcohol slower, leading to faster damage.

  • Viral Hepatitis (B and C): Infections causing inflammation; chronic cases affect 2.4 million Americans.

  • Autoimmune Hepatitis: The immune system attacks the liver, more common in women.

  • Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC): Bile duct destruction, striking women over 40 at a 9:1 ratio to men.

These vary in severity, but all demand prompt attention.

6 Liver Disease Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

According to Ritu Nahar, MD, a board-certified gastroenterologist with Allied Digestive Health, certain signs warrant immediate checks. Ignoring them risks irreversible scarring.

  • Persistent Fatigue: Not just tiredness; it lingers despite rest, as the liver struggles with energy storage.

  • Yellowing Skin or Eyes (Jaundice): Bilirubin buildup signals poor processing; seen in 70% of advanced cases.

  • Abdominal Pain or Swelling: Right-side ache or ascites (fluid retention) from portal hypertension.

  • Dark Urine and Pale Stools: Toxin overflow darkens urine; blocked bile pales stools.

  • Itchy Skin: Bile salts irritate nerves, a classic hepatitis clue.

  • Easy Bruising or Bleeding: Low clotting factors due to impaired protein production.

A 2023 study in Hepatology found 40% of patients dismissed these early cues.

Sneaky Liver Disease Symptoms That Are Easy to Miss

Subtle hints often mimic everyday woes, delaying diagnosis by years. For instance, brain fog or sleep issues stem from toxin accumulation, not stress. Women might attribute spider-like blood vessels on the skin to hormones, but they indicate estrogen imbalance from liver strain.

Consider Lisa, 52, who chalked up her sudden weight gain and nausea to perimenopause. Tests revealed PBC. Statistics show NAFLD symptoms evade notice in 80% of early stages, per the American Liver Foundation. Watch for unexplained nausea after meals or metallic breath—both point to failing detox.

What Causes These Hidden Signs? Poor diet and medications overload the organ, mimicking IBS or allergies.

What Women Over 50 Should Know

Post-menopause shifts heighten risks; estrogen drop promotes fat accumulation, raising NAFLD odds by 50%, says a Lancet study. Autoimmune types like PBC surge after 50, with fatigue and bone loss as dual threats.

Key Risks for Women Over 50:

  • Hormonal changes fuel fatty liver.

  • Medications like statins or hormones strain processing.

  • 1 in 4 women this age has undiagnosed liver issues, per AASLD.

Get screened if family history or obesity exists. Blood tests like ALT/AST levels catch it early.

Easy Lifestyle Changes to Support Liver Health

Small habits yield big protection. Start with these evidence-backed steps.

  1. Cut Alcohol: Limit to one drink daily; abstinence halves fatty liver risk.

  2. Eat Liver-Friendly Foods: Load up on greens, berries, and nuts; a Mediterranean diet slashes progression by 40%, per trials.

  3. Exercise Regularly: 150 minutes weekly burns fat; yoga aids detox.

  4. Maintain Weight: Losing 5-10% body weight reverses early NAFLD.

  5. Avoid Toxins: Check meds with your doctor; vaccinate for hepatitis A/B.

  6. Stay Hydrated: Two liters daily flushes impurities.

Maria, 58, reversed prediabetes-linked liver fat with these tweaks in six months.

The Bottom Line on Liver Disease Symptoms

Heed those red flags: fatigue, jaundice, and more to protect your liver. Women, especially over 50, must prioritize checks amid sneaky symptoms. Act now with lifestyle shifts and doctor visits. Early steps prevent 90% of severe outcomes. Consult a specialist if concerned.

Molotov Cocktail Suspect Claims Emotional Breakdown, Judge Denies Bail in Sam Altman Case

0

A Texas resident accused of attempting to firebomb the home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was detained without bail on Tuesday, with his attorney asserting that the defendant is suffering from a mental health crisis.

Daniel Moreno-Gama, 20, made a court appearance in San Francisco but refrained from entering a plea to several charges, including attempted murder. The judge allowed a postponement of his arraignment, scheduling his next court appearance for May 5.

Moreno-Gama’s public defender, Diamond Ward, vigorously challenged the prosecution’s case. She stated that Moreno-Gama is on the autism spectrum and was undergoing a “severe mental health crisis” during the time of the alleged incident.

“At most, this is a property crime,” Ward argued, suggesting that the prosecutors had overcharged her client. She implied that Sam Altman’s high-profile status might have influenced the gravity of the charges.

Prosecutors say the attack was anything but minor.

Authorities allege Moreno-Gama traveled from Texas to San Francisco in a planned, targeted attempt to kill the OpenAI CEO. Early Friday morning, he allegedly hurled a Molotov cocktail at Altman’s home, setting an exterior gate on fire before fleeing on foot. No one was injured, and officials have not said whether Altman was home at the time.

Less than an hour later, investigators say Moreno-Gama showed up at OpenAI’s headquarters about three miles away, where he allegedly threatened to burn the building down and kill anyone inside. Surveillance video captured him throwing a chair at the glass doors, according to police.

He was arrested outside the building, where authorities say he was carrying a jug of kerosene, a lighter and writings outlining his hostility toward artificial intelligence.

Sources familiar with the investigation previously told Fox News the suspect was carrying what they described as a manifesto — a multi-part document that included a list of AI executives and investors, along with their names and addresses.

“This was not spontaneous. This was planned, targeted and extremely serious,” FBI San Francisco Acting Special Agent in Charge Matt Cobo said.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has charged Moreno-Gama with two counts of attempted murder, alleging he targeted both Altman and a security guard at the residence, along with multiple arson-related offenses. She has said the charges carry potential penalties ranging from 19 years to life in prison.

Federal prosecutors have also filed charges, including possession of an unregistered firearm and destruction of property using explosives, which could add decades to any sentence if he is convicted.

“We are at the beginning of this investigation, but if the evidence shows that Mr. Moreno-Gama executed these attacks to change public policy or to coerce government or other officials, we will treat this as an act of domestic terrorism,” U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California Craig Missakian said Monday.

Meanwhile, FBI agents raided Moreno-Gama’s home in Spring, Texas, on Monday, with Fox News on the ground as agents collected evidence for several hours.

Officials say the suspect’s writings also included threats against other leaders in the artificial intelligence industry, raising broader concerns about escalating rhetoric surrounding the rapidly evolving technology.

Even groups that have warned about the risks of AI condemned the violence. The Future of Life Institute said intimidation has “no place” in the debate, while PauseAI said the suspect had no formal ties to the organization.

Prosecutors, however, are framing the case as a clear warning, urging cooler public discourse as tensions around artificial intelligence continue to rise.

Woman Fabricated Cancer Diagnosis to Elicit Sympathy and Affection

0

Inset: Haleigh Knight. Background: A GoFundMe that Haleigh Knight’s victims say she launched to scam people with a phony cancer diagnosis (KLAS/YouTube).

A resident of Nevada has confessed to fabricating a pancreatic cancer diagnosis to garner sympathy and affection from those around her, including an authentic cancer survivor who unwittingly became her benefactor. The survivor refers to herself as the woman’s “chemo angel.”

“She’s a sociopath,” expressed Rachel Riedel, one of Haleigh Knight’s affected victims, during a conversation with local NBC station KSNV. Riedel criticized Knight, stating, “She will scam you if she can reach you.”

Hailing from Henderson, a city about 15 miles from Las Vegas, Knight recently admitted guilt to a felony theft charge. She acknowledged deceiving many individuals out of more than $20,000 between June 2023 and April 2024, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Knight confessed to collecting funds via GoFundMe and directly from victims to cover her expenses and purchase items for her children.

Legal documents examined by Law&Crime indicate that Knight’s sentencing is slated for June 24, with more victims continuing to surface with stories of her deception.

Among those deceived is Suzanne Duroy, a genuine breast cancer survivor, who shared with KSNV how she became Knight’s “chemo angel,” donating nearly $1,000 in cash and gifts, touched by the fabricated cancer tale.

“I felt heartbroken for her,” Duroy said. “I had a bilateral mastectomy, 33 radiation treatments, six chemotherapies, full hysterectomy, and I’m still currently taking medication for the cancer.”

Duroy is among several people who have come forward after Knight was charged in January to speak out about what happened. Court documents obtained by local CBS affiliate KLAS say Knight admitted to cops, in addition to prosecutors, that she orchestrated an elaborate cancer scheme to gain people’s cash and sympathy.

Prosecutors said text messages Knight sent to her victims showed her confessing to posing as different people and creating GoFundMe accounts to keep up her cancer act, KLAS reports. One victim, Cydney Fink, provided photos to local media showing Knight taking selfies with bandages on.

“She goes on apologizing to Cydney for what she’s done and then states she has no excuses, and she did what she did because her head feels messed up and like she’s two different people and she can’t control it,” court documents say about the text messages Knight sent. “Haleigh states she faked having cancer so that Cydney and her family along with Haleigh’s family would feel guilty and more inclined to love and be around her if she claimed she was sick.”

In the texts, Fink asked Knight how she pulled off her scheme, and she said “very very sneakily,” according to the court documents.

“I was following her updates on her GoFundMe because they were posting continuous updates on her treatment plan,” Riedel told KSNV.

“I feel so manipulated that she would just use me for information when I was here with my husband, crying because I felt so bad for her,” Duroy said, noting how she used to spend hours on the phone with Knight answering questions about cancer and what Duroy went through. “What she’s done to all these other women is absolutely terrible, because so many were her friends, and they would have helped her if she needed help.”

Under the terms of her plea deal, Knight has agreed to pay $19,787.12 in restitution, according to the Review-Journal. If the restitution is paid in full and she completes her probation and other court-imposed requirements, she can withdraw her felony plea and plead guilty to misdemeanor theft and receive credit for time served, per the Review-Journal.

South African Road Safety Officer Penalized for Taking Selfie While Cycling

A South Australia Police superintendent in charge of enforcing road safety has been fined after he used a mobile phone while riding a bike.

Shane Johnson, the Superintendent overseeing SA Police’s Traffic Services Branch, received a fine after capturing a selfie during a cycling session and uploading it to Strava, a popular app among athletes.

Johnson explained that the snapshot was taken as he was “cooling down” following an extensive 202-kilometer ride with companions on October 18. He was within 100 meters of his residence when he decided to take the picture.

The photo that led to the fine was obtained by the Adelaide Advertiser. (Adelaide Advertiser)
The image, obtained by the Adelaide Advertiser, shows the superintendent wearing a helmet and smiling while holding his phone for a selfie.

The photo was then uploaded to Strava, a GPS tracking platform widely used by cyclists and runners to document their activities.

According to South Australian regulations, cyclists must adhere to the same traffic laws as motorists, making the use of a mobile phone while biking a punishable offense.

Johnson acknowledged that using his phone while cycling was a “momentary lapse in judgement.”

Hidden Lightsaber Gem Discovered in ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

0

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord,” titled “Whispers in the Unknown.”

The series “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord” has captivated audiences through its first four episodes by delving into the vendetta of Maul, formerly known as Darth Maul and portrayed by Sam Witwer. The storyline centers on his quest for revenge against the criminal overlords who turned their backs on him following the collapse of the Empire. Yet, the heart of the narrative lies in Maul’s intriguing bond with Devon Izara, played by Gideon Adlon, a young Jedi fleeing for her life.

Maul sees potential in Devon as a future apprentice and pursues her relentlessly. In Episode 3, Devon manages to swipe one half of Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber during her escape, showcasing her impressive combat skills. While her techniques might appear standard to some viewers, aficionados familiar with the various lightsaber combat forms will notice her expertise. Devon primarily employs Form III, also known as Soresu, the same defensive style that Obi-Wan Kenobi, Maul’s nemesis, was renowned for. Additionally, she occasionally shifts into Form IV, Ataru, reminiscent of Qui-Gon Jinn’s preferred style.

The series cleverly uses fight choreography to convey deeper storytelling elements, particularly fitting for a character like Maul, whose identity is closely intertwined with his lightsaber. As Maul’s presence grows in the Star Wars animated world, his iconic weapon remains a staple. “Maul — Shadow Lord” is rich with lightsaber Easter eggs and subtle nods designed to thrill dedicated fans.

Understanding the nuances of lightsaber combat enhances the enjoyment of Star Wars battles. Maul is known for his mastery of Form VII, a style marked by its aggressiveness and often associated with dark side practitioners, including Mace Windu, who famously utilized it against Palpatine. This form is a natural counter to Ataru, the aggressive form favored by many Jedi, including Qui-Gon Jinn. Maul’s victory over Qui-Gon in “The Phantom Menace” serves as a classic demonstration of this dynamic.

Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Maul’s lightsaber problem

Lightsaber forms are a niche aspect of Star Wars, but if you know a few basics, there are a lot of interesting details in all the big Star Wars lightsaber fights. Maul traditionally uses Form VII, a hyper-aggressive style typically associated with dark side users (and also Mace Windu, including when he beats Palpatine). It’s generally seen as a natural match for Ataru, Qui-Gon Jinn’s form and a very common one among the Jedi, as it eclipses Ataru’s own aggressive approach. Maul’s defeat of Qui-Gon in “The Phantom Menace” is a great example.

Soresu, on the other hand, is generally seen as a better counter to Form VII. In “Star Wars Rebels,” when Obi-Wan finally kills Maul in their final duel on Tatooine, he first adopts his famous Form III pose, then shifts into Qui-Gon’s Form IV stance, effectively goading Maul into launching the same sort of attack he used to defeat Qui-Gon. Maul falls for the trap, and Obi-Wan counters.

Throughout Episode 3 of “Maul — Shadow Lord,” Devon repeatedly enters and re-enters variants of that core Soresu pose. Form III is much more defensive in nature, and since she is cornered and afraid, this makes sense, especially if it’s the form she was trained in. But when Maul pushes her emotionally, we see her slide into Ataru, either adopting the Qui-Gon pose, or engaging in some more aggressive acrobatics. Given Maul’s historic dominance over Ataru, it would make sense for him to push her in that direction. But when he finally confronts her at the end of Episode 3 for a proper duel, he doesn’t use much Form VII at all.

Maul is manipulating Devon through his choice of lightsaber form

Form VII, Maul’s typical preference, is strong against Ataru, but weaker against Soresu. But that’s only relevant if you’re trying to win a fight. In “Shadow Lord,” Maul is uninterested in beating Devon. He wants to push her to her limits and decide on her own that the Jedi restraint she’s been trained in is actually a weakness she needs to shed.

When he faces her at the end of Episode 3, he only uses a single blade, as she wields his other. And notably, he fights one-handed, his off-hand fixed behind his back — a dueling style that seems to be a variant of Form II, Masashi. Most commonly associated with Count Dooku, it’s demonstrated to be strong against Form III, but substantially weaker against Ataru.

The read? Maul wants Devon to win, but he also wants her to use the most aggressive style in her repertoire to do it. By adopting Masashi instead of his usual Form VII, he dismantles her safe, defensive Soresu and pushes her into Ataru to gain an advantage. He creates a situation where she is rewarded for her aggression, which is exactly what he wants. How much of this is intentional? It’s kind of hard to tell. What’s certain is that the fights in “Maul — Shadow Lord” were crafted with a lot of intention, providing some of the most exciting lightsaber action we’ve seen in a while.

Erika Kirk Cancels Appearance at TPUSA Event with JD Vance Amid Mysterious Threats: What You Need to Know

0

Erika Kirk opted out of attending a Turning Point USA gathering on Tuesday, citing ‘threats’ as her reason, shared Vice President JD Vance.

The planned interview with Vance at the University of Georgia formed part of the nonprofit’s initiative to energize young conservative voters before the midterm elections.

Vance mentioned that Erika had discussed the threats with him in advance. In the end, she chose to skip the rally.

“I have a lot of respect for Erika, and I understand she received some threats,” Vance remarked during the event. “Just two hours prior, I was concerned we might need to cancel the event because Erika was very anxious about attending.”

Following consultations with the Secret Service, Vance proceeded with the event in Erika’s absence.

No further information about the threats have been released. The Daily Mail approached the White House for comment.

On September 10, Erika’s husband, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated at Utah Valley University while conversing with students. She succeeded her husband as the CEO of Turning Point USA shortly after his death.

For many on the right, Erika has become a figure to rally around because of the tragic and brutally public way her husband died. Others have nitpicked various appearances of hers, claiming that she doesn’t look sad or grieves in a performative manner.

Vance shut down those criticisms while being interviewed by Andrew Kolvet, a Turning Point USA spokesperson.

‘I was holding her hand, my wife was hugging her while we loaded Charlie’s body onto Air Force Two and said the Lord’s Prayer,’ he said. ‘The people telling you that Erika wasn’t grieving her husband are full of s***.’

He didn’t specifically address criticisms from Candace Owens and others that Erika is hungry for fame and tone deaf, pointing to things like Charlie Kirk’s memorial service, which at times sounded like a political rally and featured pyrotechnics on stage.

Owens has also pushed debunked conspiracy theories such as claiming that Erika removed her wedding picture from her set, suggesting she did so out of malice.

A Turning Point USA spokesperson told Newsweek at the time that ‘Erika moved it to a lower shelf when her daughter asked to see it so she could hold and look at the photo. It’s still on the studio shelf, just lower down where her daughter can look at it whenever she’s in there with her mom.’

Owens also said that Turning Point USA’s alternate halftime show for the Super Bowl faked the amount of views it got to make it appear successful in the wake of Bad Bunny’s highly watched performance.

Vance said that everything Erika has done as the new leader of the organization has been with the aim of ‘trying to make sure that Charlie’s legacy doesn’t die’.

The conversation at the event on Tuesday eventually moved on to foreign policy, with Vance defending President Donald Trump’s war in Iran.

Later on, while discussing Trump’s recent feud with Pope Leo, a man in the audience began shouting ‘Jesus doesn’t support genocide’, to which Vance agreed with him.

‘I agree. Jesus Christ certainly does not support genocide, whoever yelled that out from the dark… I think that’s pretty easy,’ he said.

Then the man could be heard saying there is a genocide in Gaza and that Israel is ‘killing children’.

Israel has conducted large-scale strikes on the Gaza Strip since Hamas attacked the country on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 Israeli civilians and taking dozens of hostages.

The audience universally booed the heckler almost as soon as he mentioned Gaza.

In response, Vance pointed to the ceasefire he and Trump negotiated in Gaza that took effect on October 10, 2025.

‘If you want, sir, to complain about what happened in Gaza, why don’t you complain about Joe Biden and the last administration. We’re the administration that solved that problem,’ he said.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued to bomb the Gaza Strip for the last six months.

Most recently, the Israel Defense Forces killed an Al Jazeera reporter they claimed was a member of Hamas. The killing has been condemned by the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Intoxicated Driver Unresponsive to Teens’ Pleas for Caution, Resulting in Collision

0

A British mother has been sentenced to prison following a reckless driving incident that resulted in injuries to several teenagers.

Faye Dawson, aged 50, faces a 14-month prison term and a driving ban lasting nearly five years. This comes after her guilty plea to charges of dangerous driving, as reported by Staffordshire Police in a statement issued on April 9.

The incident occurred on March 7, 2025, when Dawson drove her Vauxhall Corsa at 80 miles per hour—exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph—on the wrong side of a road in Cheadle, England. This reckless decision led to a crash involving just her vehicle, according to law enforcement officials.

At the time of the crash, Dawson had five teenage passengers in the car, four of whom sustained injuries. One of the teenagers suffered a fractured spine and required hospitalization, as detailed by UK’s LBC.

Police released dashcam footage capturing the moments preceding the accident, which has been circulated by LBC, The Independent, and The Daily Mail. The videos reveal Dawson repeating, “I need it, I need it,” while her young passengers screamed in fear, pleading with her to slow down.

Earlier in the drive, Dawson proclaimed, “I’m a rally car driver and a b—h … You get in here with your life,” and, per the footage, “If you die right now, I’ve got no f–king consequence.”

“I’m not a safe driver … Right now, I’m alcohol and [have had] a smoke,” she later added, “so [I’m] even more f–king dangerous.”

Dawson also told the teens in the car, “Are you buckled in? Because if you die, I am not responsible for you,” according to LBC and The Daily Mail, citing the dashcam footage.

In a victim statement, the teen who suffered the spinal fracture said, “I thought I was going to die,” per LBC and Stoke-on-Trent Live. “I had to have time off school to recover. I feel very anxious in vehicles. I have nightmares and flashbacks. I had to live with back pain for six months.”

Meanwhile, Staffordshire Police constable Luke Randall called her actions “reckless and selfish,” in a statement, “and this custodial sentence reflects that.”

During the sentencing, Dawson’s attorney reportedly told the court that the mother has no interest in getting behind the wheel in the future.

“She will never drive again, such is the traumatic effect of what took place,” he said, according to The Daily Mail and The Sun. “She feels genuine remorse and empathy with the people in the car that night.”

Nancy Pelosi’s Strategic Support Fuels Eric Swalwell’s Congressional Ascendancy

0

Eric Swalwell, once celebrated as a rising star within the Democratic Party, now faces serious allegations that cast a shadow over his 13-year congressional career. Known for his rapid ascent to influential roles in Washington, Swalwell benefited from the support of powerful figures, such as Nancy Pelosi, which helped him secure key committee appointments and establish himself as a vocal critic of the Trump administration.

However, Swalwell’s promising career has taken a dramatic turn. He is now confronted with accusations from five women alleging sexual misconduct, including inappropriate behavior like sending explicit photos and unwanted physical contact. Among these allegations, two women have accused him of rape, with one of the claims suggesting that Swalwell drugged and assaulted a model in a hotel room in 2018.

Swalwell has labeled these charges as “false” and has vowed to contest them. Despite his assertions, the repercussions have been swift. Following the mounting pressure and as political allies began to withdraw their support, Swalwell decided to suspend his gubernatorial campaign on Sunday and subsequently resigned from Congress on Tuesday.

One of the critical voices urging Swalwell to step down was former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She was among the first to advise him to exit the race, emphasizing that addressing these allegations would be more appropriately handled outside the context of a gubernatorial campaign.

One of those crucial allies was former House Speaker Pelosi, who was one of the first political figures to tell Swalwell to drop out, saying the handling of accusations was “best done outside of a gubernatorial campaign.”

Questions are swirling, however, over whether the disgraced congressman’s friends and allies were unaware of Swalwell’s alleged actions despite knowing him for so long.

Pelosi, a powerhouse in California politics, plucked out Swalwell for many plum spots when she was speaker.

In 2014, Pelosi put a relatively new Swalwell on the House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee, which shapes key policies for House Democrats and are de facto members of senior leadership. She then described him as “an energetic and forward-looking leader who will bring fresh ideas and perspectives.”

Then in 2016, as minority leader, she elevated him further on the steering committee, making him vice-chair.

Pelosi was warned about potential concerns around Swalwell. In 2020, a briefing by the FBI flagged connections between Swalwell and a suspected Chinese spy. Still, Pelosi said then that “I don’t have any concern about Mr. Swalwell.”

Then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) urged Pelosi to remove Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee after the briefing. Pelosi didn’t heed those warnings, and in 2021, she re-appointed Swalwell to the House Committee on Homeland Security.

He was also serving on the intelligence committee and House Judiciary Committee under Pelosi’s leadership.

One of her more prominent decisions involving Swalwell was making him the manager in President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial in 2021. That allowed him to burnish an anti-Trump reputation, which later buoyed his gubernatorial campaign this year.

Despite all those connections, Pelosi at a Monday event denied knowing any of Swalwell’s alleged pursuits of women.

“I had none whatsoever,” Pelosi said.

She called the resignation “a smart decision” but didn’t directly answer if she told Swalwell to also resign from Congress.

“I think that was his decision,” she responded. “That’s the right thing to do, yes, not to subject members to have to take a vote on something like that, and not to subject your family.”

Transform Your Waistline After 60: Top 5 Morning Exercises That Outperform Crunches

0

Looking to tighten your waistline? A common misconception is that performing more crunches will lead to a firmer midsection. Many people have given this a try, doing countless repetitions and feeling a slight burn, only to find that it doesn’t significantly transform their waist, particularly after the age of 60. While crunches may make you feel as though you’ve worked out, they often fail to deliver the visible results you’re seeking.

Instead, exercises that engage your core while moving the rest of your body tend to be more effective. These movements activate more muscles, elevate your heart rate, and require your core to remain engaged throughout. This holistic approach is what truly helps in achieving a noticeably firmer waist.

Incorporating these exercises into your morning routine can be particularly beneficial. It sets a positive tone for the day and doesn’t require a lengthy or complex workout. A few deliberate, well-executed moves can awaken your body and activate your core early on. Maintaining this consistency allows your midsection to become more naturally engaged, ultimately leading to visible improvements over time.

What I’ve seen work better, more often than not, is shifting toward exercises that engage your core while the rest of your body moves. That’s where things start to change. You’re not just isolating one small area; you’re getting more muscle involved, your heart rate comes up a bit, and your core has to stay engaged the entire time. That combination is what helps tighten things up in a more noticeable way.

Mornings are a great time to build this in because it sets the tone for the rest of your day. You don’t need a long routine or anything complicated. Just a few well-executed movements that wake your body up and get your core doing its job early. When you stay consistent with that, you’ll start to feel your midsection engage more naturally, and that’s when you begin to see the difference.

Standing Side Bend (Light Weight or Bodyweight)

Standing side bends are a great way to bring your obliques into the mix early without overcomplicating things. When you slow the movement down and stay in control, you can feel your side core working through the entire range. Most people go too fast or lean too far, but dialing it in makes a big difference.

Muscles Trained: Obliques and core stabilizers

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Hold a lightweight in one hand or keep your hands at your sides.
  3. Slowly bend to one side.
  4. Keep your hips steady as you move.
  5. Return to the starting position with control.
  6. Alternate sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Bodyweight side bend, offset hold, slow tempo bend

Form Tip: Think about shortening the space between your ribcage and hip.

Marching in Place with Core Focus

Marching in place is one of the easiest ways to wake up your core first thing in the morning. Each time you lift a knee, your core has to stabilize to keep you from shifting. When you slow it down and stay tall, it hits more than you’d expect.

Muscles Trained: Core stabilizers, hip flexors, and lower abs

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your hands at your sides.
  2. Lift one knee up toward hip height.
  3. Lower it back down with control.
  4. Alternate legs in a steady rhythm.
  5. Keep your posture tall throughout.
  6. Continue for the full set.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per leg. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Weighted march, slow march, hold and march

Form Tip: Avoid leaning back as you lift your knee.

Standing Rotation (Band or Bodyweight)

Standing rotations help loosen things up while getting your core to work through a range that is often ignored. Keeping the movement controlled lets your obliques actually do the work instead of just swinging through it.

Muscles Trained: Obliques, core stabilizers, and shoulders

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Hold a light band or keep your hands together in front of you.
  3. Rotate your torso to one side.
  4. Keep your hips facing forward.
  5. Return to the center with control.
  6. Alternate sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Banded rotation, slow tempo rotation, pause rotation

Form Tip: Rotate through your torso, not just your arms.

Step-Back Lunges

Step-back lunges bring your lower body into the mix while your core works to keep everything steady. Stepping back gives you more control and usually feels better on the joints, especially first thing in the morning.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Step one foot back into a lunge.
  3. Lower your back knee toward the ground.
  4. Keep your front knee stacked over your ankle.
  5. Push through your front foot to return to standing.
  6. Alternate legs.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per leg. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Bodyweight lunge, weighted lunge, slow tempo lunge

Form Tip: Stay tall and avoid leaning forward.

Plank with Shoulder Taps

Planks with shoulder taps clean things up a bit compared to just holding a plank. Instead of sitting there waiting for time to pass, you’re forcing your core to stay engaged while your body shifts side to side. That added movement is where it starts to feel different. You’ll notice pretty quickly if your hips start moving around, which is a good sign your core needs to step in and do more.

Muscles Trained: Core stabilizers, shoulders, and obliques

How to Do It:

  1. Start in a high plank position with your hands under your shoulders.
  2. Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Lift one hand and tap the opposite shoulder.
  4. Place your hand back down with control.
  5. Alternate sides with each tap.
  6. Keep your hips as steady as possible throughout.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 taps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Knee plank taps, slow tempo taps, pause taps

Form Tip: If your hips start rocking, slow it down and tighten your core before continuing.

The Best Tips for Firming Your Waist After 60

This is the part where most people either try to do too much or start bouncing between different routines. What tends to work better is keeping things simple and sticking with it long enough to actually see progress. Rather than a long list of exercises or a full morning workout to firm up your waist, a few solid movements, done well and consistently, will take you a lot further. I’ve seen people make more progress in 10 minutes a day than in workouts they do only once or twice a week. The key is making sure your core is actually working during those movements, not just going through the motions. When you start to feel that engagement carry over into the rest of your day, that’s when things really start to change.

  • Keep it consistent: A short routine you’ll actually stick with will always beat something more intense that you skip.
  • Slow your reps down: The more control you have, the more your core has to stay engaged.
  • Stay on your feet: Standing exercises tend to carry over better into daily movement.
  • Use more than one direction: Side-to-side and rotational work help bring your waist in more effectively.
  • Focus on how it feels: If you’re not feeling your core, adjust the movement instead of just pushing through it.
  • Keep moving throughout the day: Even light activity helps reinforce what you’re building in the morning.
