Doctors Astonished by Jelly Roll’s Blood Test Results: What Do Your Results Reveal?

Jelly Roll is riding high on the wave of success this year. His career hit a peak with three Grammy awards in February 2026, followed by a feature in Men’s Health that not only showcased his incredible 275-pound weight loss but also delved into his transformative journey. Yet, it wasn’t just the impressive before-and-after photos that caught the public’s attention. It was the startling revelations about his health struggles before embarking on this path.

During his initial consultation at the wellness clinic Ways2Well, Jelly Roll’s blood test results were alarming, even to the experienced medical team. His insulin levels were alarmingly high, his testosterone was at a mere 57 — akin to that of a young boy, he explained. Elevated cholesterol and a dangerously high A1C level, indicating poor blood sugar control over recent months, were also concerning. These findings led to a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, necessitating medication, and he also began testosterone replacement therapy.

“The first few results were mind-boggling,” he shared with Men’s Health.

However, the real takeaway from his story isn’t the shock value. It’s about a profound change in perspective. “The focus was never just on shedding pounds,” he reflected. “It was about understanding what was going on inside my body.”

Jelly Roll’s journey represents one of the most significant transformations among celebrities, shedding nearly 300 pounds and, as he describes, reclaiming his life. At his peak weight of 540 pounds, he felt a looming threat to his survival. “I truly believed I was on the brink of death,” the country music sensation remarked, reflecting on those challenging times.

What Standard Bloodwork Often Misses and Why Jelly Roll’s Was Comprehensive

Jelly Roll’s clinic didn’t just run the basics. Ways2Well founder Brigham Buhler described their approach to Men’s Health: “If you have high blood pressure, you’re going to be given high blood pressure medication, right? Why is your blood pressure high? You have to peel back the layers and figure out what’s causing it.”

That layered approach uncovered that excessive insulin was forcing Jelly Roll’s body to store fat, a metabolic issue that standard bloodwork might never have flagged. Most annual physicals include a CBC (complete blood count) and CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel), which cover blood cell health, kidney and liver function, electrolytes and a single glucose reading. Those are valuable, but they don’t always catch what’s building beneath the surface.

The Bloodwork Tests Similar to Jelly Roll’s That Are Worth Asking For

Each of Jelly Roll’s alarming markers connects to something your own doctor can check.

A1C captures your average blood sugar over 2-3 months rather than a single moment. Below 5.7% is normal, 5.7-6.4% is prediabetes and 6.5%+ indicates diabetes. The CDC recommends everyone over 45 get a baseline, and the 2026 ADA Standards of Care updated screening guidance in January.

Fasting insulin isn’t part of standard panels but can flag insulin resistance years before A1C becomes abnormal. This is exactly what caught Jelly Roll’s metabolic issues early.

GettyImages-2252279898-jelly-roll-weight-loss

Jelly Roll’s 275-pound weight loss has changed his life in more ways than one. “[It’s changed me in] every way,” the country singer, 41, told Extra at Netflix’s Star Search premiere on Tuesday, January 20. “I’ve gotten closer to God, I’ve gotten closer to myself, I’m a better father. I’m more present with my children.” […]

Testosterone ranges from roughly 300-1,000 ng/dL in adult men and 15-70 ng/dL in women. Jelly Roll’s was 57. While the conversation around low T tends to focus on men, women need it too. Low testosterone in women can contribute to fatigue, reduced muscle mass, low libido and difficulty maintaining bone density, especially during and after menopause. Regardless of gender, it’s never included automatically in standard bloodwork and must be specifically requested.

Lipid panel measures your HDL, LDL and triglycerides. A baseline between ages 35-40 is recommended unless family history suggests earlier screening.

Thyroid (TSH) is another commonly overlooked test. Thyroid disorders affect roughly 1 in 10 women, and about 60% of those affected don’t know it.

What You Can Do at Your Next Appointment

Don’t just accept “everything looks normal” without asking which specific tests were actually run. Standard panels may skip A1C, fasting insulin, testosterone and thyroid entirely.

Write down your family history of diabetes, heart disease and obesity before your visit. This can qualify you for additional testing that insurance is more likely to cover. If something comes back borderline, ask about retesting in three to six months rather than waiting a full year.

If you want specific panels without a doctor’s order, Labcorp and Quest both offer direct-to-consumer testing, though insurance typically won’t cover those.

Jelly Roll didn’t hide from his numbers. At the peak of his career, he chose to look inward first. That decision likely saved his life, and the same curiosity about what’s happening inside your own body is available to anyone willing to ask the right questions at their next appointment.

Record Voter Turnout in Hungary as Trump Ally Viktor Orbán Confronts Major Electoral Challenge Since 2010

0

The election has captured the attention of both the United States and Europe, as a record number of Hungarians head to the polls. This high-stakes contest pits Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has received an endorsement from former U.S. President Donald Trump, against his previous political associate, Péter Magyar.

With polls showing him trailing, Orban received a significant boost from Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Hungary earlier this week. Vance’s visit underscored the U.S. administration’s support for a pro-American leader in a strategically important region, especially given the perceived lack of support from other European allies, particularly in the conflict with Iran.

During his address, Vance made the purpose of his visit explicit. “We’re here because of the misinformation against Viktor in this election,” Vance stated at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Budapest. “We want to show that Viktor and his government have allies across the globe who appreciate their role as partners for peace. Ultimately, the choice belongs to the Hungarian people, as it should be.”

Following Vance’s return to the U.S., Trump weighed in on Truth Social Friday: “My Administration stands ready to use the full economic might of the United States to strengthen Hungary’s Economy, as we have done for our great allies in the past, if Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian People ever need it. We are excited to invest in the future prosperity that will be generated by Orbán’s continued leadership!”

Beloved by many older and more rural Hungarians and reviled by detractors, Orbán has emerged as the country’s most consequential leader since its transition to democracy at the end of the Cold War. Still, the election campaign has become intense.

Orbán’s strained relationship with the European Union comes from his positioning on Russia’s war against Ukraine, his country’s firm support of Israel and his hard stance on not accepting migrants, which led to EU financial sanctions for his refusal to open the country’s border to foreigners.

During the 16-year Orbán government, the Hungarian economy has grown relatively quickly for an EU country. The country’s GDP per capita (what the average person earns annually) rose to nearly $17,000 last year, up from approximately $12,000 in 2014, according to Trading Economics data. However, it’s not all good. Inflation has recently been relatively high at an annual rate of 4.9%, and business sentiment has been consistently negative since August 2022.

The polls shows Magyar’s Tisza party with 50% of the vote and Orbán’s Fidesz party behind at 39% as of April 9, according to Politico. Magyar now poses the largest electoral threat to Orbán since 2010.

“The polls are going well for the opposition,” Daniel Wood, portfolio manager at William Blair Investment Management, told Fox News Digital. “If the opposition wins, there’s a chance that the EU unlocks the frozen funds, which are around 7% of the GDP.”

Speaking to reporters outside a polling station Sunday, Orbán, 62, said the campaign had been “a great national moment on our side” and thanked activists and supporters for their work. “I’m here to win,” the Associated Press reported.

In an interview earlier in the week, Magyar complained the EU’s longest-serving leader has led the country on a “180-degree turn” in recent years, endangering its Western orientation while cozying up to Moscow. Yet despite that drift, “Hungarians still see that Hungary’s peace and development are guaranteed by membership of the European Union and NATO,” Magyar said. “I think this really will be a referendum on our country’s place in the world,” he told the Associated Press.

Results are expected later Sunday afternoon.

Augusta’s Golden Rule Under Siege: Masters Implement New Crackdown Strategy

0

The Masters are intensifying their strategies to prevent spectators from smuggling AI glasses into Augusta, effectively bypassing the venue’s strict ban on phones and cameras, according to sources from the Daily Mail.

In recent years, companies like Oakley and Ray-Ban have introduced AI-enabled glasses that feature tiny speakers, microphones, and cameras, enabling users to communicate, enjoy music, and capture images and videos. These devices have gained significant traction among social media influencers lately.

Priced as high as $800, these technologically advanced glasses can easily go undetected by the untrained eye. Some attendees have even managed to sneak them into the Masters, subsequently sharing footage online.

Reports have surfaced of several fans sporting these gadgets during the current week, leading to increased pressure for the club to officially add them to the prohibited items list.

A source revealed to the Daily Mail that the club has made identifying these glasses a top priority for security personnel, with staff being trained to recognize the concealed cameras within them.

Fans are allowed to bring cameras inside Augusta for practice rounds but as soon as the tournament starts on Thursday, the club bans electronic devices such as ‘cell phones, laptops, tablets, beepers, drones and other electronics… including devices capable of transmitting photo/video.’

Earlier this week, former Open champion Mark Calcavecchia was reportedly thrown out of the Masters after he was caught on his phone, while Kai Trump sparked allegations that she had broken the club’s golden rule after the president’s granddaughter posted pictures from behind the scenes at Augusta.

Calcavecchia, a 13-time PGA Tour winner, refused to elaborate on the incident, telling Golfweek on Wednesday: ‘I’ve got nothing negative to say about Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters, so I think we should literally hang up right now.’

But the incident shows just how seriously organizers enforce their rules – and how much of a concern the glasses are.

A source told the Daily Mail that after smart glasses first emerged, security staff sometimes struggled to detect them, given how similar they look to regular sunglasses.

But now they are said to be one of the biggest things that security is told to look out for.

On one recent occasion, a source revealed, a fan was caught trying to bring the glasses into the first round of the Masters.

They had used them for a practice round and were shown some mercy – the club confiscated the gadget but the fan was able to collect them as they left.

But should anyone attempt to sneak them in for Sunday’s final round, they would risk being kicked out and banned from the tournament, the source added.

The tournament enters its final day on Sunday with defending champion Rory McIlroy tied for the lead alongside Cam Young of the United States on -11.

Young’s fellow American Sam Burns is a shot behind, while McIlroy’s Europe Ryder Cup teammates Shane Lowry and Justin Rose also feature in the chasing pack.

McIlroy went into his round on Saturday with a commanding six-shot lead but on a day where many others went low, he only managed to grind out a one-over par score of 73.

‘I have to look at the positives, even though there aren’t that many to take today,’ McIlroy said on Saturday night. ‘I did bounce back. I hit some good shots coming in.

‘I’m in a great position. I just know I need to be better to have a chance.’

Emotional Showdown: Rachel Gilmore’s Tearful Moment at MAFS Final Dinner Party Revealed

Sunday’s episode of “Married At First Sight” brought a wave of disappointment as beloved couple Rachel Gilmore and Steven Danyluk announced their separation.

At the “Married At First Sight” Final Dinner Party, hosted by Daily Mail in Sydney, 35-year-old Rachel was seen in tears. The emotional night unfolded as she watched the heart-wrenching footage of their breakup, while Steven, aged 34, was merely a few meters away.

The reunion took place at the Ovolo Hotel in Woolloomooloo, where the cast gathered to view the latest episode, leading to an emotional moment for Rachel.

The group was captivated by a flashback to a Commitment Ceremony scene. In this segment, Rachel candidly shared her apprehensions about the future of their relationship with the show’s experts.

During the clip, Rachel expressed her concern, saying, “I’m scared that Steven will return to his life in Sydney, and it will be easier for him to let me go.”

‘Because he is time poor and he has his business, and so it might be a burden to try and maintain our relationship with me. So, he might just let me go. So, yeah, that’s… that’s my fear.’

It all became too much for Rachel, who leaned her head on Sam’s shoulder for support as she wiped tears from her eyes.

Meanwhile, Steven, sitting just metres from his former bride, kept his focus firmly on the screen, so as not to make eye contact with Rachel.

Despite the revelation that they had split, there was a moment of hope for Rachel and Steven on Sunday night’s episode.

Before sitting down to dinner, the couple had a private chat to dissect the end of their relationship, which culminated in Steven putting his wedding ring back on.

An emotional Rachel said: ‘I can’t believe that we’re here by ourselves. I can’t believe we’re broken up still.’

Steven admitted that he hadn’t made Rachel his ‘number one priority’ after Final Vows, instead focusing on his business.

Rachel then asked Steven if he wanted to ‘repair’ their marriage, telling him: ‘I still have a lot of love and care for you. I don’t want it to be like this.’

Steven replied: ‘I don’t want to be like this either, that’s why I’m so hurt and upset.’

Rachel then reiterated how much she still cared for Steven, and after a long pause, he responded.

‘I’m not wearing my ring. I know. But I do have it on me just in case,’ he said, as he pulled out a gold band from his jacket pocket.

Speaking to producers, he added: ‘So, I put the wedding ring back on. Me and Rachel really both care for each other. We don’t want the relationship to end.’

However, it seems the reunion was short-lived, with Rachel revealing to Daily Mail the heartbreaking truth behind their split.

Reliving their Final Vows has been bittersweet for Rachel, who admitted the emotional scenes still hit hard.

‘I said yes at the end… it was a really beautiful moment to relive,’ she said.

‘It just reminded me of how much I was in love with Steven and how much he meant to me… and how much I was willing to give up to be with him.’

‘It’s just really hard to get to this point… rewatching it knowing the total outcome,’ she admitted.

According to Rachel, the cracks began almost immediately after filming wrapped.

Despite making big promises about building a future together, Steven returned to his normal life in Sydney – and never truly showed up for her.

‘We’d really spoken about him coming to Melbourne… that was his opportunity to show up for me,’ she explained.

‘But there was always an excuse and a reason not to come.’

‘He listed the reasons why he couldn’t come… and they were all to do with me,’ she revealed.

‘That really took me by surprise. I should have been the reason you’d want to run to Melbourne.’

Malnourished 9-Year-Old Discovered Confined in Van Since Early 2024, Found Unable to Walk

In a harrowing tale emerging from eastern France, a 9-year-old boy has been rescued after enduring life in captivity within his father’s utility van since 2024. Authorities reported that the child has been hospitalized, while his father has been taken into custody.

The disturbing situation came to light when a neighbor reported hearing “sounds of a child” emanating from the vehicle on a Monday in the village of Hagenbach. This community is situated near the borders of Switzerland and Germany. The local prosecutor, Nicolas Heitz, detailed these events in a statement released on Saturday.

Upon forcibly opening the van, police officers discovered the boy in dire conditions: he was lying in a fetal position, unclothed, and covered only by a blanket amidst a pile of trash and near excrement. Heitz described the boy as severely malnourished and unable to walk due to prolonged confinement in a seated position.

Under questioning, the boy’s father claimed he had confined the child in November 2024 to shield him from being sent to a psychiatric hospital by his partner, who had allegedly wanted to institutionalize him when he was just 7 years old.

Contrary to the father’s assertions, Heitz noted that there was no medical evidence suggesting the boy had any psychiatric issues before his disappearance. On the contrary, he had been performing well academically, achieving good grades at school.

The boy told investigators that he had “big difficulties” with his father’s partner and thought his father “had no choice” but to lock him up, according to the prosecutor. He said he hadn’t showered since 2024.

The father was handed preliminary kidnapping and other charges and kept in custody. His partner denied knowledge that the boy was in the van, according to the prosecutor. She was handed preliminary charges, including for failure to help a minor in danger, and released under judicial supervision.

The boy’s 12-year-old sister and the 10-year-old daughter of his father’s partner were placed in the care of social services.

The prosecutor’s office is investigating whether others were aware of the boy’s detention.

Friends and family told investigators they thought the boy was in a psychiatric institution. His teachers were told he had transferred to a different school, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The authorities have not released the names of the victim or his relatives.

Hagenbach residents contacted by The Associated Press expressed shock on Saturday over the cases and said they were unaware of the boy’s whereabouts, but didn’t want to discuss details.

The prosecutor declined to comment further to AP pending further investigation.

Prolonged Drought Challenges Corpus Christi’s Status as Key Energy Hub Amid Water Crisis

0

In the arid landscape of southern Texas, Corpus Christi is grappling with a prolonged drought that has severely drained its water reserves. The city’s authorities are in a race against time to avert a water shortage that could impose stringent restrictions on residents and disrupt operations at the vital energy hub’s refineries and petrochemical plants.

Experts indicate that the severity of the drought caught the city off guard, compounded by delays in securing new, dependable water sources. This predicament has surfaced amidst increased water sales to large industrial customers.

“We have simply not kept pace with the necessary water supply and infrastructure improvements, a lapse that has been building over decades,” stated Peter Zanoni, who has served as city manager since 2019.

With a population of approximately 317,000, Corpus Christi not only caters to its residents but also supplies water to neighboring counties. The city is deeply interwoven with the oil and gas sector, contributing significantly to the production and global shipment of everyday essentials like fuel and steel.

Although Zanoni reassures that a complete depletion of water is highly improbable, he warns that without substantial rainfall or alternative resources, residents could face mandatory cutbacks, and industries might need to operate with less. This challenge arises at a time when the ongoing conflict in Iran is already impacting gas prices, affecting a region that is responsible for producing 5% of the U.S. gasoline supply.

Droughts are common, but this one has dragged on for most of the past seven years. Key reservoirs are at their lowest point ever. The quickest fix is different weather.

“We are actively praying for a hurricane,” former city council member David Loeb said, half in jest. Loeb doesn’t want anyone injured, but after wrestling with previous droughts in his time on the council, he feels the lack of rain acutely.

The drought isn’t expected to lift by summer, leaving officials scrambling to tap more groundwater to avoid an emergency.

Lessons from last time

After the last drought in the early 2010s, the city approved a pipeline extension to bring in more water from the Colorado River and promoted conservation. In the years that followed, water use actually fell. The city, seeing opportunity, added a petrochemical plant and steel mill to its long list of industrial customers.

City officials had allowed for drought in their calculations — just not this kind of drought, Zanoni said. It has hit especially hard because reservoirs never fully recharged after the last one.

And it’s come at a bad time.

After many years, the pipeline extension finally delivered its full capacity only last year. Meanwhile, discussion of building a desalination plant that would remove salt from seawater — a potentially drought-proof solution recommended in 2016 — bogged down over concerns about costs as high as $1.3 billion and environmental impact.

“If the then-city council had followed through on that, we would have had that plant up and running by now,” Zanoni said.

It’s an industry town

Corpus Christi has followed its long-established plan for reducing water use. Stage 1 seeks voluntary actions from citizens like taking shorter showers and limiting how often they can water. Currently, the city is in Stage 3, which means pauses on many outdoor water uses.

Many residents are angry that they can’t water their lawns, that their bills are set to rise sharply and that they may face fines, said Isabel Araiza, co-founder of a grassroots group active on water issues. Some don’t feel industry will be asked to share in the pain, she said.

The city’s drought plan allows for charging residents and businesses extra if they use lots of water. But big industry, which Zanoni says consumes as much as 60% of the city’s water, can opt to pay a permanent surcharge to avoid the possibility of having a much larger fee added in times of drought.

Araiza calls it a bad system. Once industry pays the surcharge, she said, they have no incentive to conserve water.

The city has defended the system, saying in a statement that industry does not “get a pass on water conservation” or forced curtailment. The statement said the business surcharges have raised $6 million a year.

It is wrong to suggest industry isn’t helping, said Bob Paulison, executive director of the Coastal Bend Industry Association. Companies have stopped landscaping, they recycle water for essential cooling needs and they are looking for alternative water sources, he said.

The city hasn’t imposed extra costs on anyone yet.

But Zanoni said water rates may eventually double as the city invests roughly $1 billion on infrastructure — costs that some argue will disproportionately benefit industry and make life for residents more expensive.

What’s the way out?

The city is in a water emergency when it has 180 days before water supply can’t keep up with demand. Officials have run through different scenarios for getting new water and the drought easing, and have said an emergency could come as early as May, as late as October, or not at all.

The city has tapped into millions of gallons of new groundwater, and it hopes to get even more.

The biggest unknown is the Evangeline Groundwater Project, which involves a pipeline and about two dozen wells that could add enough water to head off an emergency. It still needs state approval but the city hopes water could be flowing as soon as November. New sources come with drawbacks – some have raised water quality concerns, and there are worries too much pumping could deplete groundwater.

If the city has to declare a water emergency, it would be able to more aggressively curtail water use – mandatory reductions that would apply evenly to all industry and residents. That is a sensitive decision and is likely to be a “knock-down drag-out bloodbath,” Loeb said.

Because residents on average have already reduced their water use, future mandatory cuts are likely to fall heavier on industry.

“It’ll be an unbelievable disaster,” said Don Roach, former assistant general manager of the San Patricio Municipal Water District that has lots of industrial customers in the area. “When you cut the cooling water off to most of these industries, they just have to shut down. Five Actors Who Nearly Landed Roles in the Spider-Man Franchise

0

Every installment in the “Spider-Man” movie franchise, whether critically acclaimed or not, has showcased an impressive array of talent. Even the often criticized “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” boasted a cast including Chris Cooper, Sally Field, Jamie Foxx, and Paul Giamatti. In contrast, cinematic gems like “Spider-Man 2” featured renowned actors Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, and Kirsten Dunst. It’s a testament to Spider-Man’s enduring appeal that his films consistently attract big names. However, not every star considered for these films swings into action as part of Spider-Man’s universe.

Across the expansive catalog of live-action “Spider-Man” films, numerous high-profile actors have been approached for key roles that never materialized. These seemingly perfect matches between Hollywood icons and the beloved comic book character often didn’t pan out. The reasons for these missed opportunities vary widely. Some actors lost out due to other performers being a better fit, some were attached to projects that stalled in pre-production, and others were linked to roles later removed from the films.

Considering the complexity and scale of these “Spider-Man” productions, it’s no wonder that these five actors were close, but ultimately not part of the movies. Fortunately, each film managed to assemble a stellar cast, ensuring the Spider-Man saga remains as star-studded as ever.

One lesser-known fact about Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Spider-Man is that it almost ended with just one film. Despite the phenomenal success of 2002’s “Spider-Man,” Sony initially dropped Maguire when he assumed the sequel’s schedule would be adjusted to accommodate back injuries he suffered while filming “Seabiscuit.” Reports at the time suggested Jake Gyllenhaal was being considered for the role before Maguire mended fences with the studio, demonstrating his commitment to continue as the web-slinging hero. Ultimately, Maguire reclaimed his place as Spider-Man, back troubles notwithstanding.

Jake Gyllenhaal later clarified that he never formally accepted the Spider-Man role. Instead, he was among several actors considered to take over the part. At the time, Gyllenhaal’s rising star power and his youthful, nerdy appeal made him a logical choice. With “Spider-Man 2” no longer an option, Gyllenhaal moved on to headline another summer blockbuster in 2004, “The Day After Tomorrow.”

Jake Gyllenhaal in Spider-Man 2

One of the things you probably don’t know about Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is that it was nearly a one-and-done performance. Despite the immense success of 2002’s “Spider-Man,” Sony immediately dropped the film’s star when Maguire assumed that “Spider-Man 2’s” production timeline would be skewed to fit back injuries he’d sustained on “Seabiscuit.” Initial reports indicated that Jake Gyllenhaal was originally cast in the role before Maguire moved heaven and earth to repair his relationship with the studio, proving he was still game for the part. Eventually, Maguire regained the Spidey role despite those pesky back problems.

Gyllenhaal would later clarify that he didn’t quite get as far as actually signing onto the role. Instead, he was one among a crop of actors eyeballed to succeed Maguire in the Spider-Man outfit. Still, Gyllenhaal would’ve made sense at that point in time, given both his burgeoning star power and his youthful, endearingly nerdy look in the early 2000s. With “Spider-Man 2” no longer on his radar, Gyllenhaal signed on to star in another summer 2004 blockbuster, “The Day After Tomorrow.”

To boot, having no obligations to the “Spider-Man” franchise opened up his schedule to do dramas like “Brokeback Mountain.” In a serendipitous twist, he’d eventually make his way back to the “Spider-Man” saga playing the villainous Mysterio in 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” He finally made it into these features — just 15 years later than initially expected.

Ben Kingsley in Spider-Man 3

Sam Raimi had a tormented time making “Spider-Man 3.” The whole project just got away from him, including those who were supposed to be the film’s initial villains. Thomas Haden Church, who played the film’s version of Sandman, has openly talked about how, when he first joined the movie, Venom wasn’t part of it at all. Instead, the Vulture would’ve had a supporting role in the story. This approach got far enough along in production for the team to meet with an esteemed performer for the part: Ben Kingsley, then famous for motion pictures like “Gandhi” and “Schindler’s List.”

Producer Grant Curtis recalled that Kingsley was enthusiastic about taking on the role, an exciting sign that this actor was fully committed to realizing one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies. However, once “Spider-Man 3” producer Avi Arad insisted that Venom be a prominent character in this blockbuster, that was all she wrote for Kingsley’s Vulture. The character was packed away and would have to wait until 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” to make his live-action film debut.

As for Kingsley, he would bring that pronounced vigor to another Marvel Comics character just a few years after “Spider-Man 3.” That would be “Iron Man 3’s” Trevor Slattery, who initially posed as the Mandarin. Kingsley clearly became enamored with this comical figure, right down to the hilarious way he agreed to reprise the role in “Shang-Chi.” Unlike “Spider-Man 3,” projects like “Wonder Man” got to reap Kingsley’s enormous talents.

Anne Hathaway in Spider-Man 4

Casting for Sam Raimi’s eventually abandoned “Spider-Man 4” was taking place in 2009. At this point, Anne Hathaway had fully solidified herself as a bankable leading lady with projects like “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Get Smart.” She even scored her first Oscar nomination for her outstanding work in “Rachel Getting Married.” As her career was going up, taking on a prominent role in the sequel to the biggest movie of 2007 domestically seemed like a logical maneuver. It was Hathaway’s world, and we were all just living in it.

Hathaway would’ve been playing Black Cat in this production, though she didn’t get very far with the part. In fact, Hathaway has openly talked about how she never even saw concept art for her character’s costume, let alone begin testing any garb for Black Cat. “Spider-Man 4” was canned at the start of 2010, which ensured Hathaway would not be playing this comic book character after all. Hathaway has looked back on this development as a blessing in disguise, given that not tackling this character opened the door for her playing Catwoman in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Given how momentously important Hathaway considers “Dark Knight Rises” director Christopher Nolan to her career, it’s for the best that her comic book movie debut wasn’t in “Spider-Man 4.” Black Cat, meanwhile, still hasn’t properly appeared in a movie beyond an “Amazing Spider-Man 2” cameo, where she was played by Felicity Jones.

Brady Corbet in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Long before Brady Corbet’s dark vision of the modern American epic, “The Brutalist,” hit theaters, Corbet was another young actor making it day-by-day in Hollywood. Before he transitioned full-time into directing, Corbet wasn’t the most high-profile actor. Instead, he largely took on arthouse roles in titles like “Melancholia,” “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” and “Funny Games.” However, he nearly had a brush with mainstream blockbuster fame thanks to “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” When this project was first getting off the ground, Corbet was one of the names bandied about as a contender for Harry Osborn.

The notion of a scarred Corbet riding around on a Goblin Glider, dangling Gwen Stacy from the top of a clock tower, is a surreal one. This actor was so immersed in grounded, artsy works that “Amazing Spider-Man 2” would’ve been quite the departure. However, Corbet was apparently eyeballed by Sony as someone who could realize Harry Osborn as an innately intense guy. Given that Corbet is, as The Guardian described him in 2019, “not […] another Sundance brat,” it’s pretty doubtful that the “hardcore, highbrow Europhile” would have pursued the role intensely.

Similarly, it’s hard to imagine Corbet being distraught over losing the role to Dane DeHaan. Eventually, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” flopped, scuttling plans for this Harry to become a multi-film character. Corbet, meanwhile, helmed his first directorial effort, “The Childhood of a Leader,” in 2015, and carved out the exciting career path that he pursues to this day.

Xochitl Gomez in Spider-Man: No Way Home

While there were many unanswered questions after the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s big Phase Four slate announcement in July 2019, some things were immediately clear about what the MCU’s future looked like. Specifically, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which would’ve introduced America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), was supposed to drop in theaters on May 7, 2021. Two months after these announcements, Sony and Marvel Studios sewed up a deal to make another solo “Spider-Man” movie together. The project, which would eventually become “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” was set to launch on July 16, 2021, two months after “Multiverse of Madness.”

Given that “No Way Home” was always intended to make use of Doctor Strange and his world of magic, it’s unsurprising to learn an initial version of the project also utilized Chavez. Concept art for “No Way Home” revealed that Gomez’s version of the character would’ve helped out Peter Parker and his pals on their journey. Allegedly, some of her plot functions were transferred over to Ned (who grew quite proficient with a Sling Ring and Strange’s sentient cape in the final film).

Once “Multiverse of Madness” was delayed to its final May 2022 slot, that meant it would be coming out after “No Way Home” in the MCU’s timeline. This required notable changes to the “No Way Home” script, presumably including writing Chavez out so she could debut in a solo “Doctor Strange” outing before interacting with the wider MCU.

Colman Domingo made his debut as a host on Saturday Night Live on April 12, but the evening didn’t end as smoothly as fans had hoped. The 56-year-old actor’s closing monologue was unexpectedly cut short, leaving many viewers disappointed.
