19-Year-Old Arrested After Shocking Shooting Incident Injures 5 at Virginia State University

0

PETERSBURG, Va. — A startling incident unfolded early Saturday at Virginia State University when law enforcement arrested a 19-year-old man hiding inside a dormitory closet. The young man, now identified, is linked to a late-night campus shooting that left five individuals injured, with one victim in critical condition.

Camron Harris, residing in Henrico, Virginia, was apprehended, despite not being enrolled at the university, according to the Chesterfield County Police. Notably, four of the five victims also were not students. The injured parties, ranging from 17 to 23 years old, included one 20-year-old student who has since been discharged from the hospital. The authorities have yet to disclose the identities of those affected by the event.

While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, police have secured eight felony warrants against Harris. The charges include malicious wounding and utilizing a firearm while committing a felony. It is uncertain whether Harris has legal representation, as efforts to contact his family by phone have been unsuccessful.

Earlier statements from the university indicated that multiple suspects were being sought, although no further updates were provided by police on Saturday evening. University officials reassured the community that no immediate threat was detected, prompting the lifting of a temporary campus lockdown.

The devastating event, occurring around 1:30 a.m., triggered a lockdown as students were preparing for the upcoming academic year. This tragic shooting has had a profound impact on the university and surrounding community.

It happened near the university’s Quad Annexes, where campus police and Chesterfield County officers discovered five people suffering from gunshot wounds outside campus dormitories.

According to the university’s website, residence halls opened for students a week ago, and classes resume on Monday. Many students had just completed the university’s “New Trojans Experience” for incoming students.

“We recognize the concern this incident has caused among our students, parents, alumni, friends, and the broader VSU community,” the university statement said. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority.”

The campus had a large law enforcement presence on Saturday morning, and the university informed students that they should monitor their email for additional safety measures and information about support services. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office were assisting, county police said.

Virginia State University is a historically Black university located in Ettrick, Virginia, about 24 miles south of the state capital of Richmond. The public university has about 5,700 students and was the first fully state-supported four-year college for Black Americans. Most of its students are undergraduates.

The university has grown in recent years while attempting to improve safety and retain its historic charm, said Arthur Fridrich, the university’s former director of distance education, who lives near the campus and visits regularly. A shooting like this just as students return for classes is heartbreaking for the community, he said.

“To start a new year with this event is very tragic. It casts a shadow in the minds of all students, and for some it will be difficult to rid their minds of this term,” Fridrich said. “For those that were shot, my heart bleeds. I hope that they all mend and somehow do not let this event define their lives.”

James Dougherty of Dougherty Dozen Shockingly Switched Careers Before Arrest for Public Lewdness

0

James Dougherty, a familiar face from The Dougherty Dozen, recently took an unexpected turn in his college journey just before his arrest on charges of public lewdness.

As reported, the second oldest child of Alicia and Josh Dougherty was chasing his dream of becoming a culinary artist, according to his mother’s comments to People in August 2025, after he had finished a two-year program.

However, just a few months later, a surprising update was shared.

“James has decided he wants to switch majors at college from Culinary Arts to IT,” Alicia wrote on Instagram in December. “He really is quite gifted in anything technologically related.”

By the date of his arrest on July 29, James, who had become part of the Dougherty family when he was just six, seemed to be navigating a new chapter in his life.

Authorities described James as “homeless” upon apprehending him at Eastview Mall in Victor, New York. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office stated that he was discovered engaging in lewd behavior in his car in plain sight, according to a press release provided to People.

The 19-year-old was taken into custody, issued an appearance ticket and released. He is expected to return to Victor Town Court to face the charge against him at a later date.

While the family did not return a request for comment from Oxygen at the time, James’ older brother Alex Dougherty spoke out.

“Guys, I support James, okay guys? And I’m here for him and everything like that,” Alex said during a livestream on his Kick channel, obtained by People. “So, end of discussion.”

Who Are the Dougherty Dozen?

Alicia and her family have racked up over 10 million followers across their various social media channels by highlighting their life as a large family.

Their 11 children—some biological and others through foster care, adoption, or kinship placement—range in age from 8 to 20. Six of their children have fetal alcohol syndrome, the couple have revealed in the past.

Their popular content offers glimpses into their massive grocery hauls, meal prep routines and fun family traditions.

“It’s not always easy,” the couple wrote in a 2025 Facebook post to celebrate National Adoption Day, “but it’s always worth it.”

Transform Your Core: 6 Superior Midsection Exercises for Rapid Results Post-60

0

As a certified CSCS coach, I’ve found that incorporating six specific daily exercises can significantly enhance your core strength, particularly for those over the age of 60.

>

Improving core strength as you age can bring about a transformative shift in your overall body dynamics. With a more robust midsection, your back receives better support, maintaining good posture becomes less strenuous, and daily movements become more fluid and interconnected. This approach is far more rewarding than merely doubling down on crunches, hoping for visible results.

While crunches target a limited aspect of core strength, a well-rounded midsection must manage multiple tasks. It should stabilize the pelvis, resist rotational forces, support the spine efficiently, and remain engaged as your limbs move. By focusing on broader core functions, you begin to see substantial gains from intelligent exercise routines.

For my clients over 60, I craft core workouts that deliver immediate and noticeable benefits. These exercises should be easy to pick up yet offer enough challenge to be effective, all while being gentle on the neck and lower back, allowing for consistent repetition.

The sequence of exercises below kicks off with structured floor routines and progresses to carrying exercises, hands-and-knees positions, lateral core engagements, and anti-rotation drills. This diverse combination ensures your core engages in more complex tasks than simply curling forward, making daily practice both practical and beneficial.

Dead Bug

The dead bug builds midsection strength by teaching your core to stay active while your arms and legs move. That makes it especially useful after 60 because it trains control through the trunk without loading the spine heavily. It also helps strengthen the deep core muscles that support your lower back during other exercises and everyday movement.

Muscles Trained: Abs, deep core, hip flexors.

How to Do It

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and lifted over your hips.
  2. Reach both arms toward the ceiling.
  3. Brace your core and keep your lower back steady.
  4. Lower one arm behind you as the opposite leg extends.
  5. Return to the starting position.
  6. Switch sides and continue alternating.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps per side.

Best Variations: Bent-knee dead bugs, heel-tap dead bugs, single-leg dead bugs.

Form Tip: Shorten the range if your lower back starts to arch.

4 Strength Moves Women Over 60 Should Do Weekly (No Jumps, No Floor)

Farmer Carry

The farmer carry strengthens your midsection by making your core hold steady while you walk with weight. That’s a useful shift from crunches because your abs have to support posture, breathing, grip, and movement at the same time. After 60, this exercise can help your trunk feel stronger during everyday tasks like carrying groceries or moving things around the house. It also brings in a practical strength challenge without making the routine complicated.

Muscles Trained: Abs, obliques, upper back, shoulders, grip, glutes.

How to Do It

  1. Stand tall with a dumbbell or kettlebell in each hand.
  2. Hold the weights at your sides.
  3. Brace your core and keep your shoulders relaxed.
  4. Walk forward with slow, controlled steps.
  5. Keep your torso tall as you move.
  6. Set the weights down safely at the end of the carry.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 carries of 20 to 40 seconds.

Best Variations: Lighter farmer carry, suitcase carry, march-in-place farmer carry.

Form Tip: Walk tall and keep the weights from pulling you side to side.

Bird Dog

The bird dog strengthens your midsection by making your core stabilize your body while one arm and the opposite leg move. That kind of control helps with balance, posture, and smoother movement through the hips and shoulders. It’s a simple drill, but it gives your core a job that feels closer to real life than another set of crunches.

Muscles Trained: Abs, glutes, lower back, shoulders.

How to Do It

  1. Start on your hands and knees.
  2. Place your hands under your shoulders and your knees under your hips.
  3. Brace your core.
  4. Reach one arm forward and the opposite leg back.
  5. Pause for one second.
  6. Return to the starting position and switch sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps per side.

Best Variations: Leg-only bird dogs, arm-only bird dogs, slower bird dogs.

Form Tip: Keep your hips level as you reach.

4 Morning Exercises That Reverse Muscle Loss Faster Than Heavy Lifting After 60

Knee Side Plank

The knee side plank strengthens the sides of your midsection, which often get less attention than the front of the abs. Stronger obliques help your torso feel more stable when you walk, carry, or shift your weight. The knee-supported version keeps the exercise approachable after 60 while still giving the side core enough work to build strength.

Muscles Trained: Obliques, abs, shoulders, glutes.

How to Do It

  1. Lie on one side with your knees bent.
  2. Place your forearm on the floor under your shoulder.
  3. Stack your knees and keep your body in a straight line from shoulders to knees.
  4. Brace your core.
  5. Lift your hips off the floor.
  6. Hold, then lower with control and switch sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 holds of 15 to 25 seconds per side.

Best Variations: Shorter side plank holds, side plank from an elevated surface, full side plank.

Form Tip: Keep your hips lifted so your body doesn’t sag toward the floor.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez Spotted Together Following Their Wedding Ceremony

0

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have made their first public appearance since quietly exchanging vows in a covert ceremony.

The couple, who became engaged a year ago, celebrated their nuptials in a ‘private and intimate’ setting just last week, with their five children on hand to witness the special moment.

The newlyweds, alongside their children, were spotted enjoying the view from the VIP box at the Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, during the Saudi Pro League match between Al-Nassr and Al-Fateh.

The 41-year-old football legend, Ronaldo, was off the field, still regaining his rhythm with the team following a hiatus due to the World Cup—a break further extended by his recent wedding in Portugal.

Meanwhile, Georgina, who is 32, exuded relaxed style in a satin bomber jacket. She was spotted in full mom mode as she comfortably held Alana, eight, while twins Eva and Mateo, nine, engaged with the game.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, looked tense as he watched the game unfold but was pictured clapping at one point.

The footballer shared that he and Georgina had tied the knot after ten years together by sharing a snap of their wedding bands on Instagram.

He captioned the post: ‘C❤️G.’

A representative for Ronaldo also confirmed news of the union, saying: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were married today in a civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, and are now officially husband and wife.

‘The ceremony was a private and intimate moment attended by their five children.’

Jornal de Noticias published a copy of the couple’s marriage certificate late on Thursday, saying only four witnesses were present as well as their children.

Cristiano’s mother Dolores Aveiro and his three siblings Hugo, Elma and Katia, were not present at the intimate civil ceremony.

His family found out he was marrying his long-term girlfriend just moments before he married Georgina, a local report has claimed.

It was Portuguese television presenter Cristina Ferreira who claimed the footballer’s family’s absence from his big day will ’cause problems’.

Speaking on TVI programme Dois at ten, she said: ‘It will cause a lot of problems because the family wasn’t present.

‘And they shouldn’t even have known. Or if they did know, it was 30 seconds beforehand.’

Claudio Ramos added on the programme: ‘I really hope that what we said here, which had to do with the impressions we get from what exists on social media, did not actually cause sadness in the family, that things were not as they apparently seem.’

Dolores, who has had to refute claims over the years of a bad relationship with her daughter-in-law, gave her blessing to the star couple’s union.

Shortly after they announced they were married she posted a heart emoticon on Cristiano’s official social media alongside the snap he published of their rings.

Cristiano’s sister Katia, who is based in Brazil but travelled to her native Madeira at the weekend to meet family and friends, did the same.

She has yet to address reports she and other members of Cristiano’s family were absent from the Cascais wedding ceremony.

Georgina’s sister Ivana, Cristiano’s long-time friend Miguel Paixao and a Spanish couple named as Jose Rodriguez Sangil and his wife Monica Goncalez Martinez were the only witnesses.

Registrar Maria Manuel Ferreira de Campos Folhadela de Oliveira travelled from the northern Portuguese city of Porto to Cascais to officiate the ceremony.

And the star couple, who married exactly one year to the day after they announced their engagement on social media, have decided to keep their pre-nuptial assets separate despite tying the knot after a decade-long romance.

They signed a pre-nup agreement to define their property regime on August 10 a day before the ceremony at a public notary’s office in Lisbon.

Al Sharpton Urges Investigation into Nolan Wells’ Death with Potential Democratic House Leadership

0

Al Sharpton is urging Democrats to probe the tragic death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, should they secure the majority in the House.

Nolan Wells passed away following a July 4 boating excursion to Horn Island, Mississippi, accompanied by three white teenagers. During a discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Atlanta, Sharpton was joined by prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump and members of Wells’ family. The gathering raised questions about the circumstances of Wells’ death, especially considering Mississippi’s complex racial background, which Sharpton believes demands a thorough investigation.

“I haven’t pieced together all the facts yet, but I’m well aware of Mississippi’s historical context,” Sharpton commented. “What history illustrates is cause for concern: a Black youngster ventures out with three white peers, the white peers return, but the story has gaps.”

“Something about this doesn’t add up, especially given your historical record,” Sharpton continued. “I’m committed to unraveling the truth of this incident. It might result in nothing significant, but we can’t afford to risk leaving questions unanswered when past narratives have been distorted. We’re committed to pursuing clarity in this case.”

Sharpton then pivoted to the upcoming November elections, emphasizing that a House controlled by Democrats could potentially launch an inquiry into the matter, should official responses fall short.

“If we have a change in January and there is a Democratic House, I said that if Hakeem becomes the speaker, he needs to have the chair of Judiciary subpoena them to the Judiciary Department,” Sharpton continued.

Questions about Wells’ death have fueled widespread attention and demands for more information from authorities. Sharpton, actor and producer Tyler Perry, and former NFL player Terrell Owens have put up a combined $125,000 reward for information that could help authorities identify and convict anyone responsible for Wells’ death.

Sharpton also criticized local law enforcement for publicly suggesting that no crime had occurred.

“We can’t have someone in law enforcement saying there was no foul play before there was an investigation,” Sharpton said.

Government Acknowledges NDIS Reforms’ Family Impacts, Dismisses Concerns on State Preparedness

0

Labor has sought to ease worries about whether state-run disability support systems will be ready on time, as it advances controversial reforms aimed at curbing fraud and cutting costs within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) through parliament.

The government has initiated a Senate inquiry, which on Friday recommended that proposed changes to the NDIS be adopted without major modifications.

The planned reforms aim to slash $37.8 billion from the NDIS budget over the next four years by tightening eligibility criteria, thereby reducing the number of participants by 160,000.

According to NDIS Minister Jenny McAllister, negotiations between the government and the coalition regarding the passage of these changes are nearing fruition.

“We’re quite optimistic and, I dare say, confident that we will finalize an agreement,” she expressed on ABC’s Insiders program this Sunday.

Opposition health spokeswoman Anne Ruston called for a strengthened fraud and corruption response within the disability insurance agency in the inquiry report.

Senator McAllister said the government was still considering evidence brought forward during the inquiry process and flagged fraud as an area to work through with the coalition.

A woman with short hair wearing a suit speaks to the camera.

But concerns about the changes remain among advocates — and from at least one state.

In a joint statement, 12 disability advocacy organisations said the reforms should not pass parliament in their current form.

“Reform must be genuine and well-sequenced,” the statement read.

“It must guarantee that people are not diverted from, or lose, NDIS supports unless alternative supports are funded, operational, accessible and available in practice.”

A woman holds a sign saying 'Protect our NDIS' at a media conference.

Queensland has resisted signing up to the Thriving Kids program, a major plank in federal plans to cut costs from the NDIS.

Under the program, which is due to be rolled out from October, some children aged eight and under with autism or developmental delays would be shifted onto state supports.

Queensland Disability Minister Amanda Camm has refused to back the agreement, labelling the change a cost-shifting exercise that lacked detail.

Despite the conflict, Labor remained confident people with a disability would not be left without the support they needed.

“We have until 2028 to get this right,” Senator McAllister said.

“We don’t need to contemplate delay at this point, because we are working with the states and territories toward that January 1 deadline.”

Labor’s NDIS plan would lead to average funding being cut by about $5000 a year for participants.

“It is a reduction and we don’t deny that it will have impacts on people with disability and their families,” Senator McAllister said.

She again dismissed calls to introduce an NDIS inspector-general, saying it would risk adding another layer of bureaucracy.

Djokovic Reveals Health Insights After Cincinnati Collapse

0

Recently, Novak Djokovic has publicly addressed a health condition he previously kept under wraps, following a dramatic collapse at the Cincinnati Open on Saturday.

The tennis legend, who boasts an impressive 24 Grand Slam titles, was seen dropping to his knees and seeking medical attention amidst the stifling heat and humidity.

Despite clearly struggling, Djokovic refused to bow out of the match, though his performance fell short of the vigor he displayed when he clinched the first set in the second-round face-off.

Eventually, Argentine player Thiago Tirante outlasted him in the grueling conditions, securing a victory with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

This intense contest, which lasted over two and a half hours, marked Djokovic’s return to the court after his defeat to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals over a month ago.

The 39-year-old claimed the opening set with little fuss.

He won a brutal 18-minute third game of the second, saving four break points over nine deuces but bending over in distress between points and even dropping to his hands and knees after one particularly gruelling exchange.

Djokovic took a medical timeout after that game, with the trainer and then a doctor coming on court to assist with assessments and ice towels.

After Tirante took the second set, both players cooled off in the locker room. Slightly revived, Djokovic set the pace again in the deciding set.

But it all went wrong in the ninth game, when Djokovic saved three break points before getting it wrong on a drop shot to bring up a fourth break chance that his opponent converted.

Tirante clinched the biggest win of his career in the next game as Djokovic again failed to land a drop shot on match point.

The Serb, who must now try to regroup before the US Open starts on August 30, admitted he might have played his last match in Cincy.

“It looks like I won’t be back, unfortunately, to play here,” he said, confirming that the sweltering weather got the better of him.

“It was a combination of the heat and humidity, all those things,” he said.

“Everything involved makes it worse.”

There were scary scenes when Djokovic appeared to vomit into a towel while sitting in his chair.

The three-time Cincinnati champion was even more honest speaking to international reporters after the match where he revealed he has been managing an undisclosed health condition for multiple years.️

“First and foremost, I congratulate my opponent today,” he said.

“Honestly, it hasn’t been a pleasant match for me. That’s how I’ve felt. It hasn’t been the first time, and it won’t be the last. That’s just how it is.

“The conditions aren’t the problem. It’s because of a health issue I have. I’ve been dealing with it for many years now. It causes me a lot of problems, especially when there’s a lot of humidity and heat.

“I️ knew these conditions were going to affect me, but there are other things too: the nerves and everything that comes with a match like this. All of that makes the situation worse, and that’s what happened.”

Elsewhere, Seventh seed Flavio Cobolli, runner-up at the French Open, defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

Martin Landaluce beat Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to reach a third-round clash against Tirante.

In the WTA draw, Philippines sensation Alexandra Eala advanced to the third round 6-1, 3-0 as injured Elena-Gabriela Rusequit their match during a weather delay.

The Romanian had received treatment on her right ankle just before play was halted by a thunderstorm.

During the 90-minute delay, Ruse pulled the plug on her effort, sending ninth seed Eala through.

Eala, the emerging WTA star who captured her first WTA title in Washington this month, will next play Amanda Anisimova after the American ninth seed beat Turk Zeynep Sonmez 6-2, 6-3.
