Kentucky Teacher Arrested for Student Misconduct Under New Anti-Grooming Law

0

In Kentucky, a middle school educator is under severe scrutiny as criminal charges unfurl against her following claims of misconduct with a student that reportedly blurred serious ethical boundaries, authorities revealed.

The accused, 25-year-old Sadie M. Flores of Mayfield, found herself in handcuffs on Friday afternoon, charged with grooming a minor. This charge emerges as a Class D felony, newly enforced under Kentucky law just since July 15.

The investigation led by the Graves County Sheriff’s Office points fingers at Flores, who is employed at Graves County Middle School, for allegedly engaging in an illicit relationship with a student enrolled within the district.

The disturbing allegations came to light after reports reached the administration of Graves County Schools. In an immediate response, school officials alerted the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, catalyzing a thorough criminal investigation.

Detectives said the investigation included the seizure of electronic records, interviews and other investigative measures. Flores was interviewed Friday afternoon before being taken into custody around 3:30 p.m.

She was booked into the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before later being transferred to an out-of-county detention facility.

Sheriff Jon Hayden said the investigation remains ongoing.

Graves County Schools Superintendent Matt Madding said district leaders immediately contacted law enforcement after learning of the allegations.

“District administration was made aware of an allegation involving a teacher at Graves County Middle School. School officials immediately reported this information to the Graves County Sheriff’s Department for investigation,” Madding said in a statement.

“We have since been informed that, as a result of that investigation, charges have been filed against this teacher.”

Because the investigation and personnel matter remain ongoing, Madding said the district is limited in what it can publicly discuss but emphasized that student safety remains its top priority.

“We take any allegation involving the safety of a child or the professional conduct of an employee extremely seriously and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and the appropriate authorities,” he said.

The grooming charge stems from a Kentucky law that took effect July 15, creating a new felony offense aimed at adults accused of cultivating inappropriate relationships with minors before sexual abuse occurs.

Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged relationship, the student’s age, or whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

Yankees Hitting Coach Confident Struggling Offense Will Improve

0

The New York Yankees faced yet another setback as they fell to the Atlanta Braves in a tight 2-1 defeat that stretched into extra innings on Sunday. This loss only highlighted the team’s ongoing struggles, which began after star player Aaron Judge was benched due to a fractured rib at the end of May.

Since Judge’s absence, the team’s performance at the plate has been concerning. The Yankees have managed the fourth-fewest runs in the league, coupled with the lowest batting average and on-base percentage. Their strikeout rate has unfortunately soared to the highest in Major League Baseball.

Ahead of Sunday’s matchup, hitting coach James Rowson opened up to The Post about the team’s difficulties at bat. Despite the lackluster statistics, Rowson maintained that the situation was not as dire as it might appear.

“When you consider our direction, it’s all about focusing on securing wins,” Rowson stated. “Our ultimate goal isn’t to amass hits, but to outscore our opponents, however that might look—be it a 3-2 victory or a 9-3 triumph. Staying concentrated on winning games and not allowing offensive slumps to become a hindrance will ultimately serve us well.”

Morgan Freeman, celebrated for his Oscar-winning performances, has surprised fans by branching into the music scene with a fresh venture.

At 89, the iconic actor, who viewers may currently watch in Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness,” has both narrated and produced a blues album. This new offering is called “Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience.”

The album became accessible for purchase on Decca Records’ site starting Friday, August 7, and will be available for streaming and digital consumption on August 14.

Featuring a rich 12-song lineup that journeys through a century of blues history, the release includes celebrated musicians like Taj Mahal, Keb’ Mo’, and Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell, alongside the renowned Chineke! Orchestra.

Freeman shared with the Daily Mail that his connection to the blues music dates back to his childhood, recalling, “The blues has been part of my life since I first heard it on my grandmother’s porch in Mississippi.”

‘This album is my way of honoring that music and the stories it carries.’

‘I heard the blues for the first time on my grandmother’s porch in the Mississippi Delta, and it has never left me,’ Freeman also said in a press release, per Rolling Stone.

‘Having Taj Mahal kick off this album with a cover of Son House’s classic Death Letter Blues strikes the perfect tone for the introduction of this album.’

The cover Death Letter Blues from the new album was released on Juneteenth, and the actor expressed it ‘is not just symbolic – it is the truth of where this music comes from and who made it. I hope people listen and remember.’

The song was first released in 1965 and recorded by Delta blues musician Son House.

Other tracks on the LP include Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground and Cadillac Assembly Line.

A three-date tour in support of the album also kicked off on August 7 with a show in Houston.

Additional stops include a performance in Memphis on September 26 as well as a concert in Gulfport, Mississippi on October 17.

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Freeman for comment.

‘African Americans, those people whose closer connected to the origins in Africa, they have their own way of working and it’s a rhythm thing.’

Freeman also pursues his passion for blues music as a co-owner of the blues club Ground Zero in Mississippi.

‘I was raised primarily in Mississippi with a few excursions outside, but the best of my growing up was spent in Mississippi in the Delta – Greenwood, Mississippi, to be exact,’ he said last year at his Chautauqua Lecture Series, per the Chautauqua Daily.

‘My association with the blues is really not an association at all,’ the Million Dollar Baby star explained at the time.

‘It’s just there in the air. You start hearing it at a very young age, because there are a lot of guys going around plucking on guitars and singing sad songs.’

He added, ‘The blues has this beginning with African Americans because working in the fields, they had a work holler, as it were.’

Along with the new album release, Freeman has been featured on other songs in the past.

Netanyahu Dismisses Peace Board’s Gaza Proposal: No Pullout Without Hamas Disarmament

    0

Israel has firmly rejected a 15-point proposal for Gaza presented by the Board of Peace. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that Israeli forces will remain in the enclave until Hamas completely relinquishes its weapons.

“Israel stands firmly against the 15-point Gaza document introduced by the Board of Peace,” Netanyahu stated during Sunday’s Cabinet meeting. “The Israel Defense Forces will not proceed with any withdrawal until Hamas is thoroughly disarmed.”

Ongoing dialogues between Israel and the United States focus on the disarmament of Hamas, with Netanyahu emphasizing that any forthcoming agreement must ensure the complete dismantling of the group’s arsenal.

“Disarmament must be authentic, not just superficial,” Netanyahu remarked, underscoring the need for tangible action.

“When I say Hamas is disarmed, that means the heavy weapons, the less heavy weapons, all the weapons,” he added.

Hamas remains committed to a Gaza roadmap agreed with mediators and representatives of the Board of Peace in Cairo 10 days ago, senior Hamas official Basem Naim told Reuters.

Hamas expects mediators and the United States to “press Netanyahu and his government to adhere to the roadmap,” he added.

Trump had teased a disarmament of the Hamas terrorist group in Gaza as a landmark step toward peace, but there remained skeptics, including Israel’s Netanyahu, whose Sunday comments put him at odds with the latest Board of Peace proposal as the Trump administration seeks to move forward with a broader plan for Gaza following the ceasefire reached last year.

Trump said last month that there had been a breakthrough in efforts to advance the peace process and that Hamas had agreed to lay down its weapons. Hamas controlled Gaza for nearly two decades before carrying out the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel that triggered the war.

Israel has continued carrying out strikes in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect last October, while the future disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces remain central issues in negotiations over the territory.

Netanyahu made clear Sunday that Israel would resist provisions in U.S.-backed proposals that his government considers unacceptable.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump have had their differences over war and peace in the Middle East, but they generally tend to come back to the same conclusion: That Iran’s malign influence has to end permanently.

He also reiterated his opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state in either Gaza or the West Bank.

“As long as I am prime minister, there will be no Palestinian state, not in Gaza and not in Judea and Samaria,” Netanyahu said. “Neither ‘Fatahstan’ nor ‘Hamastan.’”

The Israeli leader’s rejection of the 15-point proposal underscores the hurdles facing efforts to turn the ceasefire into a lasting settlement, particularly over the sequence of Hamas’ disarmament and an Israeli military withdrawal.

Netanyahu indicated Israel would continue working with Washington but said the government would hold firm on its security demands, particularly its insistence that Hamas be fully stripped of its weapons before Israeli troops leave their positions in Gaza.

Netanyahu also used his remarks Sunday to address Israeli operations elsewhere in the region, saying the military had recently acted “forcefully” in Lebanon and carried out what he described as “very important activity.”

On Iran, Netanyahu said Tehran has refrained from striking Israel because “it knows what a powerful blow we will deal it if it does,” while praising Trump and the U.S.-Israel alliance over efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

“I greatly appreciate President Trump,” Netanyahu said.” He is the greatest of our friends in the White House. I greatly appreciate the historical partnership with the U.S. against Iran’s attempts to acquire nuclear weapons.

“And I wish to emphasize once again: With or without an agreement, as long as I am prime minister, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. Because the existence of our precious country, the country of all of us, the existence of Israel, is not up for negotiation.”

California Parents Face Rising Costs for Back-to-School Supplies and Groceries

    0

California families are facing a hefty price tag as they gear up for the back-to-school season, with parents spending close to $175 on basic school supplies this year. This increase adds pressure to many already tight household budgets.

According to research from Groundwork Collaborative and The Century Foundation reported by Times of San Diego, the cost of a standard set of 21 essential classroom items has jumped to $173.45, marking a 7.7% rise compared to last year’s prices.

Some school supplies have experienced even higher price hikes. Notebooks have soared by around 23%, while the cost of loose-leaf paper has risen 20%, and index cards are up by 22.2%.

Lunch boxes have seen nearly a 27% increase. Meanwhile, parents find themselves paying roughly 8% more for essentials like dry-erase markers and glue sticks.

Additionally, the prices of other staples, including No. 2 pencils, crayons, colored pencils, and binders, have climbed between 5% and 7%, contributing to the overall cost burden on families.

The increases can become especially painful for households buying supplies for multiple children while also contending with high rents, rising utility bills and increasing costs for everyday necessities. They are being driven by a combination of higher manufacturing costs, inflation and spiking prices for imported goods, where many of these items are made.

“Everything goes up but the paycheck,” Mark Davis, a San Diego father of five, told NBC 7.

“I have to pay for gas, rent, bills, and food [for all of us]. It’s a struggle day-to-day, but you gotta get up and make it,” he said.

Davis was among families who sought assistance at a back-to-school event in Encanto Saturday ahead of the San Diego Unified School District’s return to classes Monday.

The event was organized by California state Sen. Akilah Weber Pierson, who told the outlet: “I know the cuts that are coming as a result of some of the legislation, and it’s important for people to know where they can go if certain things are no longer accessible for them,”

Food costs are another concern for struggling households in San Diego County, where officials estimate more than 93,000 people will lose their CalFresh benefits this year.

The county has funded a Safety Net Bridge program that includes food assistance, with families receiving groceries at a distribution in Chula Vista Saturday.

For father-of-four Jose Miranda, whose family relies on multiple sources of assistance, making ends meet requires both him and his wife to work.

“Just making minimum wage both [me and my wife] gotta work. We find different resources by calling 2-1-1, and sometimes we gotta find activities like this,” Miranda told the outlet.

The county plans additional food distributions and funding to help residents access health care services through the fall.

Many Southern California and major urban districts, including LAUSD and ABC Unified, are scheduled to begin classes Monday, August 12.

Typhoon Dolphin Forces One Million to Evacuate in China: Flight Cancellations Surge

    0

China’s eastern coast was battered on Sunday by the most powerful tropical cyclone to hit the country this year, bringing with it relentless rain and intense winds.

Before reaching China, Typhoon Dolphin had already caused havoc in Japan’s southern Okinawa prefecture, where it injured six individuals and led to power outages affecting over 50,000 buildings.

The typhoon made its landfall near Yuhuan in eastern Zhejiang province on Sunday evening, according to reports from China’s meteorological officials.

At the time of landfall, the storm’s maximum sustained winds reached 151 km/h near its core, categorizing it as a Category 1 hurricane under the Saffir-Simpson scale.

In preparation, authorities had evacuated offshore workers, commanded ships to return to port, and heightened inspections of reservoirs, mountain streams, and landslide-prone zones, along with construction sites and tourist areas.

One million people evacuated, others left stranded

Torrential rain is forecast through 10 August across Zhejiang, Shanghai, northern Fujian, northeastern Jiangxi, central and southern Anhui, and much of Jiangsu. Parts of central and eastern Zhejiang could receive 250-500 mm of rain, according to forecasters.

After landfall, Dolphin is forecast to track westward before slowing over central and southwestern China and gradually losing strength, Wang Haiping, chief forecaster at the National Meteorological Centre, told state broadcaster CCTV.

That could prolong heavy rain and raise the risk of flooding and landslides, especially in mountainous areas and along smaller rivers.

Transport was widely disrupted across the east of the country, and more than one million people were evacuated from their homes.

In addition to evacuating at least 30,300 people, Shanghai has cancelled about 1,500 flights, according to flight-tracking data provider VariFlight.

A 42-year-old tourist from Guangdong said he was stranded in Shanghai after his family’s flight, scheduled to depart on Sunday, was cancelled due to Typhoon Dolphin.

He said the family had been rebooked on a flight at 10pm on Monday, although they were unsure whether it would be able to take off.

“To us Guangdong people, this typhoon is as ordinary as having a meal and feeling the wind. It’s just part of everyday life,” he said, adding that the storm did not appear particularly strong by the standards of China’s southern coast.

In neighbouring Zhejiang province, the city of Wenzhou relocated more than 900,000 residents and opened more than 1,000 emergency shelters.

In Fujian province, authorities evacuated 98,900 people from high-risk areas after raising the typhoon emergency response to Level 3, according to Xinhua. Zhejiang, Shanghai and Jiangsu have also activated Level 3 emergency responses.

Fujian maritime authorities said 55 coastal passenger ferry routes had been suspended, all 115 offshore construction projects had been halted, and 290 construction vessels had been moved to sheltered waters.

The water resources ministry said the Qiantang, Yong, Jiao and Shuiyang rivers could see major flooding, while smaller rivers in the hardest-hit areas could rise above warning levels.

Authorities warned of a high risk of geological disasters in parts of Zhejiang, while residents in areas covered by a red mountain-torrent warning were told to follow local evacuation orders.

Shanghai’s Yangshan port cleared ships from its berths and moved more than 500 small and medium-sized vessels to shelter ahead of Dolphin, the city’s maritime safety administration said.

Scientists say global warming has made extreme weather more likely, including stronger typhoons.

Wildfire Explosion Forces 20,000 Canadians to Evacuate Urgently

    0

In a dramatic turn of events, a ferocious wildfire described as exploding “like a bomb” has compelled tens of thousands of Canadians to flee their homes.

As the Bald Range fire wreaked havoc, aircraft were called in to rescue dozens of residents, while countless others faced gridlocked roads in a desperate bid to outrun the inferno.

Since it ignited on Friday, the blaze has scorched an area spanning at least 53 square miles across British Columbia.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire has doubled in size, now threatening the communities of Summerland, Peachland, and additional regions within the province.

In response to the escalating crisis, Premier David Eby declared a state of emergency on Saturday as the province grappled with over 100 wildfires blazing across the area.

He described the Bald Range blaze as ‘like a bomb going off in the Summerland region’ which tore across 2,000 acres in roughly an hour.

The fire created its own weather system sparking lightning strikes and sending flames up to 200 feet high.

Officials said the blaze began around 5.30pm on Friday but have yet to determine its cause.

All 12,000 residents of Summerland and another 8,000 people in and around Peachland were ordered to evacuate. The communities are about 250 miles east of Vancouver.

Eby’s office said there had been ‘significant structure loss’ but said officials had not assessed the damage because the area remained an active fire zone.

‘Conditions are extremely dangerous and changing minute by minute,’ Eby said. ‘The fires are moving incredibly quickly.’

The premier added that some residents had become trapped as the fire grew and that search-and-rescue crews continued searching for others who may have been caught in its path.

BC Forests Minister Ravi Parmar said more than 50 people were rescued by 18 aircraft.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police also said they were investigating a possible wildfire-related death near Summerland but were unable to confirm a fatality because of the dangerous conditions.

The BC Wildfire Service said on Sunday morning that the blaze was showing signs of possibly rank six behavior which is the highest level a fire can reach.

Erick Thompson, an emergency official with the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, had been providing updates on the fire from an emergency operations center before he was forced to evacuate his own family.

The devastating fire comes weeks after President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Canada over wildfire smoke that choked US cities in July.

‘We are holding Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their forests and brush,’ the president wrote on Truth Social.

The US is being ‘invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air, the quality of which is dangerous and totally unacceptable,’ Trump added.

Fires that have been blazing in Canada’s Ontario province have caused massive plumes of smoke to blanket much of the eastern United States.

Those plumes reached major US cities, including Washington, DC, and New York City, on Thursday evening.

Trump has repeatedly sought to put pressure on Canada through tariffs during his second term.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the BC Wildfire Service, the RCMP, the BC Ministry of Forests, and Premier David Eby’s office for comment.

Sean Hannity Dismisses Fox News Poll Predicting Texas Democrat’s Senate Victory

    0

During a dynamic exchange on Tuesday night, Sean Hannity seemed to dismiss the credibility of his own network’s polling data while interviewing Bill de Blasio, the former mayor of New York known for his far-left views.

Hannity, now 64, expressed skepticism regarding a July 30 poll that appeared to give a slight lead to a progressive Texas Senate contender over Republican Ken Paxton. He remarked on his primetime broadcast that he couldn’t take the poll results seriously, even for a moment.

Currently, Congressman James Talarico from the Austin area is engaged in a heated battle against Paxton, as the campaign intensifies on both sides.

As Hannity criticized the stance of Democratic socialists, de Blasio, 65, interjected with a query about the Fox News poll. This came after Hannity pointedly brought up Talarico’s previous remarks on topics like gender and religion.

Hannity initiated his critique by asking, “Do you really think ‘Six-Gender Talarico,’ who holds the belief that God is non-binary, supports biological men in women’s sports, and advocates for their access to abortion…”

He was almost immediately interrupted by de Blasio, who flagged the poll putting Talarico ahead by three percentage points.

‘Did you read your own poll today where Talarico is beating Paxton?’ the former mayor asked, causing Hannity to express hesitance.

Talarico, meanwhile, is not a Democratic socialist.

Hannity, 64, said he 'didn't believe' a July 30 poll from the outfit that put Texas Senate candidate slightly in front of Republican Ken Paxton 'for two seconds' on his primetime show, where he was joined by former New York Mayor and Defund the Police supporter Bill De Blasio

Hannity continued the conversation by bringing up another Democrat who is not, oyster farmer-turned-Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner.

Platner called off his campaign last month in the wake of rape allegations that he denies and having a tattoo recognized as a Nazi SS symbol earlier this year – things Hannity was sure to point out.

De Blasio countered that people like Talarico were at least gaining momentum for touting ‘common-sense, kitchen-table issues,’ in contrast to people like Paxton.

‘This is the worst nightmare for Republicans, if Democrats get their act together and talk about the kitchen table,’ de Blasio asserted, referring to the prospective lay of the land in 2028.

Hannity, one of Fox News’ original cohosts circa 1996, was still not convinced.

He pointed out how progressives like James Carville, Bill Maher and John Fetterman have expressed frustrations with their party over more radical candidates and policies.

Hannity said pushback from those early advocates was tantamount to ‘a canary in the coal mine.’

‘Nope,’ de Blasio answered, as the two talked over each other. ‘You’re going to see whole generations of young voters. Young voters are gonna change these elections. You’re gonna be surprised, and they’re gonna be with the Democrats.’

Talarico's opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, is considered a hardline conservative. The Fox poll put him three percentage points behind Talarico, despite his years of experience

Both men were so convinced in their correctness that they repeatedly proposed making ‘a bet.’

Talarico, 37, turned heads in 2021 during committee debate on a bill regarding transgender student athlete bans by saying that ‘modern science obviously recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes – in fact, there are six.’

He also claimed ‘God is non-binary’ during the same speech.

He appeared to walk back the latter during a May interview with ABC Live, saying it was ‘meant to be deliberately provocative.’

“Ken Paxton is clipping my past cringey comments to distract from his career of corruption,” he said at the time.

He also said that he believes ‘you can’t use human categories to define God.’ He added that Republicans were seizing on the comments ‘to try and distract from the corrupt system that Ken Paxton embodies.’

The Texas Senate race has commanded national attention, largely due to the pair’s differing political views. Paxton, Texas’s attorney general for a decade, is a hardline conservative.

His campaign website warns the ‘election will determine whether Texas remains the conservative stronghold that leads America or becomes another state controlled by the radical left.’

    Reported by Staff

MICANOPY, Fla. – Estephania Andrea Lucado, a Gainesville resident aged 38, found herself in handcuffs yesterday after being accused of breaking into an occupied home in Micanopy and making off with stolen goods.

Around 5:31 p.m. on August 7, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a residence on SE CR 234. The homeowner reported catching Lucado red-handed while pilfering items from a screened porch. The victim further alleged that this wasn’t Lucado’s first time taking things from their home.

A responding deputy reportedly witnessed Lucado exiting the premises with food items, notably cold as if fresh from the refrigerator. Despite this, Lucado purportedly attempted to hand over the goods to the deputy, claiming innocence on the grounds that the items had not left the property.

Lucado is said to have been uncooperative with authorities, opting not to reveal her identity or respond to their inquiries.

Lucado, whose address is listed as Gainesville, has been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, theft, and resisting an officer without violence. She has no local criminal history, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $54,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
