Heather Day built her public identity around the image of a picture-perfect marriage and family.
In her book ‘Confessions of a Christian Wife,’ she shared advice on becoming a better wife and mother, drawing from her relationship with Seth — the boy she met in sixth grade who later became a pastor, campus chaplain and, ultimately, her husband.
The photogenic couple, who have three children, turned their personal story into a profitable business. They co-wrote books, appeared at speaking events and built a substantial online following.
Friends told the Daily Mail that the polished pair were regarded as celebrities within the Seventh-day Adventist community.
That carefully crafted family image collapsed in September, when Heather and Seth were arrested over allegations of child sexual abuse, sending shockwaves through the deeply religious community.
Seth, 39, was charged with injuring and sexually assaulting a child. Heather, also 39, is accused of encouraging the girl to lie about injuries allegedly caused by her husband.
Neither has publicly entered a plea, though both have indicated they intend to contest the charges.
Friends of the Christian couple said they were stunned by the allegations. One told the Daily Mail that he initially assumed the first reports were a prank.

‘The Days were one of the closest people to Adventist celebrities,’ former Andrews University student Joel Pelletier told the Daily Mail.
The Days were among the most recognizable figures on the Michigan university’s campus. Heather and Seth taught in its communications department before moving with their family to Texas in 2024.
Pelletier recalled that the couple frequently appeared on faith-based podcasts and had become familiar faces who seemed to be rising stars in the Adventist community.
Because the allegations appeared so at odds with their carefully cultivated public image, he said he found the initial reports difficult to believe.
‘I think it’s a cautionary tale to perhaps not esteem celebrities and what they preach,’ he added.
The investigation began on September 24, after a high school teacher contacted Keene police with concerns about the teenager.
An arrest affidavit reviewed by the Daily Mail states that the teacher had observed visible injuries on the girl’s face and head.
The teenager was taken to the Johnson County Children’s Advocacy Center. There, investigators were told that Seth had struck her with her cellphone two days earlier.
She alleged that the incident took place inside the family home, while Heather and two siblings were present.
According to court documents, the girl also told medical staff at Cook Children’s Medical Center that Seth had sexually assaulted her on the same day.

The complaint says she initially struggled to describe the alleged incident, reportedly calling it ‘yucky.’
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the family’s Keene home, where they found a bottle of lubricant in Seth’s bathroom, in the location the girl had described.
Police also reported finding additional evidence in another bedroom that they said corresponded with her account.
Another former Andrews University student, who asked not to be identified, described the case as an extraordinary fall for a couple who had once enjoyed considerable influence.
They had been ‘really big influencers’ on the Christian campus, he said.
‘I feel bad for their whole family, their friends, the kids involved… it’s saddening for sure,’ he told the Daily Mail.
He said the case had reinforced his skepticism about Christian celebrity culture and whether religious influencers should be trusted.
‘I don’t subscribe to influencers really, especially Christian influencers, because I know everyone is imperfect,’ he said.
The Days’ teenage accuser claimed the abuse had happened on multiple occasions and that she had repeatedly told Heather about the alleged assaults.
Heather is accused of encouraging the girl to conceal her injuries, including by wearing a mask at school and attributing facial swelling to an autoimmune condition.
Child Protective Services confirmed that it had received several previous reports involving alleged abuse by Seth, including one in August 2026.
Those earlier reports were closed at the state level, according to reporting by CBS News.

After the arrests, the children were placed in CPS custody. The Days were released after posting bonds totaling $450,000.
Emergency protective orders restrict their contact with the children, while both have been required to wear electronic tags.
At her bond hearing, Heather repeatedly denied the allegations, telling the judge: ‘I am a professor of communication, my husband’s a pastor. This is not true.’
She also raised concerns about the girl’s mental health and cited an autoimmune condition as an explanation for her appearance.
Seth, meanwhile, appeared largely silent during his court hearings.
If convicted on the charges described in the court documents, Seth reportedly faces a maximum possible sentence of 109 years in prison, while Heather faces up to 10 years.
Heather’s professional biography describes her as an author of ten books with contributions to outlets including Christianity Today, Religion News Service and Newsweek.
She founded Cross Communication, a Christian speakers directory, and hosted Viral Jesus, a podcast produced by Christianity Today.
The podcast explored how faith leaders and influencers used digital platforms to promote their faith.

Seth was an assistant professor of psychology at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, where he was placed on administrative leave following his arrest.
The university said it was cooperating with law enforcement and stressed that the allegations did not involve its students, staff or other faculty members.
Together, the couple wrote I’ll See You Tomorrow: Building Relational Resilience When You Want to Quit, a Christian relationship book about navigating disappointment, conflict and fear.
Pelletier described the situation as deeply ironic, given the couple’s public emphasis on family life, resilience and working through relationship difficulties.
He told the Daily Mail that the Days remained innocent until proven guilty, but believed the case had exposed the dangers of treating religious influencers as role models.
‘It’s impossible to separate the art from the artist at this point,’ he said.
Other figures in the Christian community have also begun distancing themselves from Heather’s work.
Christianity Today removed Viral Jesus from its platforms after learning of the allegations, with a senior executive saying the publication would not continue distributing the show while legal proceedings were ongoing.
The fallout has also prompted wider discussion about how prominent standing within religious communities can affect the way allegations are handled.
Dr Susan Fletcher, a North Texas family psychologist, told FOX 4 News that perpetrators could come from every walk of life.
‘Sometimes, having a higher status in the community is part of what has allowed them to continue their behavior,’ she said.
The couple have not publicly provided a detailed response to the allegations. The Daily Mail has contacted them for comment.
