Nine men accused of sexually abusing an unconscious woman were identified after police discovered more than a million photographs and videos on her husband’s mobile phone, a court heard.

Jurors were told the men obtained “sexual gratification and enjoyment” from the woman’s “use and abuse” after she was allegedly given a “cocktail of stupefying drugs”.

The husband’s black Samsung S25 was described as acting “like a confessional”, giving police what prosecutors said was almost a script documenting the alleged abuse.

Prosecutor Louise Oakley KC referred to a message allegedly sent to the husband by one of the defendants after a visit. The sender urged him to delete the images and warned: “Remember what happened to the guy in France”.

Ms Oakley told the court that the reference was to the French man who had raped his wife, Gisèle Pelicot.

Opening the case at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, Ms Oakley said footage of the woman had been “taken without her consent” while she was “obviously unconscious”.

The alleged abuse came to light after “undercover journalists infiltrated a chat group” on the Telegram messaging app, the court heard.

Following the husband’s arrest, investigators examined his phone and found what prosecutors described as his “darkest secrets”, including more than a million photographs and videos.

The defendants on trial are Jonathan Kirk, 43, a senior paramedic; Robert Stewart, 70, a retired DJ; Mohammed Sabir, 28, a businessman; Alan Keelan, 42, a youth football coach; Jordan Wallace, 31, a dog walker; Philip Wild, 59, a taxi driver; Richard Townsend, 38, a metal worker; David Graves, 60; and Daniel Rayner, 42.

All nine men deny various sexual offences.

Jurors were told that in September, the woman’s husband of 40 years admitted 62 charges, including multiple counts of rape.

Ms Oakley said the husband had “lived a double life masked in respectability” while concealing “dark and depraved secrets”. He allegedly drugged and raped his wife for more than 20 years before his arrest last October.

Turning to the other defendants, Ms Oakley said: “Their depravity, also, we’d suggest, had no bounds. They, too, were living double lives”.

The prosecution alleges the group “conspired” to administer substances to the woman so that “her body could be used and abused”.

The court heard the husband began sharing images and videos of the abuse online over 10 years ago – but his ‘deepening perversion’ meant he ‘wanted to share her’.

From 2023, the husband began ‘actually inviting other men round to their home whilst his wife lay unconscious in their bed’, when he ‘filmed himself and them raping and sexually abusing her’, Ms Oakley said.

The men would arrive at the four-bedroom house in Stockport, Greater Manchester, ‘quietly and carefully after dark’, jurors heard.

Footage would be posted ‘within minutes’ or sometimes even while abuse was ongoing, the court was told. Jurors were shown two of the videos.

Ms Oakley said the wife ‘had absolutely no idea what was going on’ – but the men ‘knew that she was not a willing participant’.

The court heard the ‘life (the woman) knew ended’ when police knocked on the door of the family home.

Ms Oakley said defence claims the wife was ‘only pretending to be asleep or unconscious as part of a fantasy role play’ was ‘a smokescreen’.

The court heard the husband began sharing images and videos of the abuse online over 10 years ago – but his ‘deepening perversion’ meant he ‘wanted to share her’.

Ms Oakley said the wife and her husband, who had been together 44 years, both lived ‘busy lives’, enjoyed regular holidays abroad and her husband was still working.

When interviewed by police, the woman said that ‘to her knowledge, they had never taken photographs or videos of themselves engaged in sexual activity and she and her husband had not, to her knowledge, had sex for nine years’.

Ms Oakley told jurors Stewart sent a message to the husband after he visited the house, urging him to ‘delete all images’ and saying ‘remember what happened to the guy in France’.

He wrote: ‘Mate have had a bad feeling about it all day. Delete all images from your phone etc as its too risky. Remember what happened to the guy in France.

‘Delete me from your phone and life. If she caught you out it would be a whole lot of trouble and end your marriage and ruin your life.’

‘The reference in the message related to the man in France who had been raping his wife, a lady by the name of Giselle Pelicot,’ Ms Oakley said.

Stewart, Wild, Sabir and Kirk, all of Stockport, Greater Manchester, Graves, of Ilkeston, Derbyshire, and Rayner, of Whitstable, Kent, deny conspiracy to rape between 2015 and 2025.

Graves and Rayner also deny conspiracy to assault by penetration between 2018 and 2025, while Stewart, Graves and Rayner deny conspiracy to administer a substance ‘with the intention of stupefying or overpowering’ the wife between 2015 and 2025.

Wild is also charged with sexual assault in August 2023, plus attempted rape and assault by penetration in February 2025. Sabir denies three rapes, in February 2025 and twice in September 2025.

Wallace, of Stockport, denies rape and attempted rape in May 2025, Keelen, from Manchester, denies two attempted rapes and an assault by penetration, all in June 2025.

Townsend, of Heywood, Greater Manchester, denies assault by penetration in July 2025, while Kirk denies two rapes in August 2025. Stewart denies two rapes in September 2025.

Four other men – Karl Lindsay, 56, of Taunton, Somerset, Graham Brougham, 74, of Northwich, Cheshire, Keith Fotheringham, 59, of Dundee, and Sean Peers, 38, of Stockport – have also pleaded guilty to various sexual offences at earlier hearings.

A married couple and their two children were reportedly among nine people killed when a Learjet crashed in Florida.

Adam Robinson, 45, and his wife, Helen Sharp, 40, were traveling aboard the jet with their two toddlers when it went down near West Palm Beach on Sunday.

According to TMZ , the Texas family was traveling with their nanny and two friends. The outlet identified the captain as 55-year-old Jeff Gregory.

The Palm Beach Post reported on Monday that it had spoken with the father of one of the victims. He said: ‘It’s quite a blow. We had a daughter, her husband and two grandchildren on the plane.’

Robinson’s online profile says he spent 10 years working on Wall Street before launching an artificial intelligence startup called GetEmail. Sharp was a ceramicist.

Disturbing dashcam footage showed the Learjet 60 plunge nose-first into an intersection before erupting in flames.

Audio also captured the aircraft’s 20-year-old co-pilot, Nathalia Filgueiras, screaming during a final call to air traffic control. The pilot beside her could be heard reciting the Lord’s Prayer as the jet fell toward the ground.

At a news conference on Monday, National Transportation Safety Board officials said severe weather appeared to have been a ‘significant factor’ in the disaster. They added that part of the jet seemed to have broken off before the crash.

Officials said the pilots had requested an additional 2,000 feet of altitude after encountering a thunderstorm, moments before the aircraft spiraled toward the ground.

Filgueiras, who grew up in Palm Beach County, was passionate about aviation. She had previously appeared in a local media report after earning her pilot’s license in 2023 at age 17.

She told CBS12 that she had ‘bragged’ to her friends about the accomplishment after they teased her by saying, ”Oh, you can’t drive,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, but I can fly.”

Her mother, Camila, frequently shared photographs of Filgueiras and her siblings traveling on private jets. Her father, Allan, also held a pilot’s license.

Camila told The New York Times: ‘She loved the freedom. It was completely different seeing the world from the top.’

In air traffic control audio released after Sunday’s crash in West Palm Beach, Florida, an unidentified man could be heard praying: ‘who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.’

As the man prayed, Filgueiras reported that the Learjet 60 had banked 60 degrees, meaning it was flying on its side.

Investigators are examining stormy weather and ice accumulation on the aircraft as possible factors in the crash. The $2 million business jet had been flying from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas.

NTSB member Tom Chapman said during a news conference Monday that the aircraft appeared to start breaking up before it made impact and that he expects parts of the plane will be found far away.

‘We do have some indication that the aircraft was breaking up before impact,’ Chapman said. ‘We may find parts of the aircraft some distance away from the actual impact site.’

The Bahamas-bound jet began its journey at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas. Airport spokesperson Jim Reynolds described it as a private aircraft. 

The plane was heading east at 35,000 feet when the pilot onboard started to report problems. 

The air traffic controllers in nearby Miami had given pilots permission to ‘deviate left and right’ due to ‘moderate precipitation… to the southeast’ that they described as ‘pretty nasty’ as the twin-engine business jet approached the area.

The controllers were then heard describing ‘moderate turbulence’ before Filgueiras’s tone swiftly became panicked as she realized the plane was in trouble.

She said: ‘Seven two two bravo delta, we’re descending 8,000… mayday mayday… we’re descending 10,000ft per minute.’

Seconds later, she screamed: ‘Declaring emergency, declaring emergency, we are in an overspeed condition.’  

Her voice grew even more panicked as she said: ‘Descending 20,000ft per minute… we’re going to crash into the ground.’

‘I’m here with you, talk to me,’ the air traffic controller said in an attempt to calm the situation.

Filgueiras said: ‘We are descending 22,000ft, and we are banking 60 degrees.’  ‘We’re out of time,’ Filgueiras then screamed in her final transmission.

Weather conditions in the West Palm Beach area on Sunday afternoon were poor, overcast with rain and lightning in the area and winds from the east at 15 mph, gusting to near 25mph. The National Weather Service in Miami said visibility was seven miles. 

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms is facing criticism over her association with a controversial pastor who has described MAGA voters as “roaches” and praised outspoken anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, the Daily Mail can reveal.

Jamal Bryant, senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, has appeared alongside Bottoms at multiple campaign rallies as she campaigns ahead of Election Day. Bottoms is a former mayor of Atlanta who later served as a senior adviser in the Biden administration.

Bryant has energized crowds at the events, including one featuring former President Barack Obama as the keynote speaker. But critics say the activist pastor’s past statements could become a political liability for Bottoms in Tuesday’s race for governor.

“You are the company you keep, and Bottoms’ full embrace of these radicals shows Georgians she won’t stand with them,” Anna Marian Block, deputy communications director for the Republican Governors Association, told the Daily Mail.

Bryant, who made headlines last year after organizing a 40-day boycott of Target over the retailer’s decision to scale back its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, has drawn intense backlash for comparing the Trump administration and Republicans to cockroaches.

During an Easter sermon last year, Bryant said, “Roaches only start running when you turn the lights on. As long as the lights are out, they’re going to be comfortable.” He added that it was “dark in America.”

“I came to give a warning, Elon Musk, the light is getting ready to come on! Donald Trump, the light is getting ready to come on! JD Vance, the light is getting ready to come on! MAGA, the light is getting ready to come on!”

Bryant has also faced condemnation over his longstanding support for Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam leader widely criticized for antisemitic remarks, including calling Jews “wicked” and comparing them to termites.

Bryant has publicly supported Farrakhan for years. In a 2015 interview, he described the controversial figure as “one of the greatest leaders of our people.”

“We welcome to the Word Network and the entire world, the honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan! We’re honored to have you, sir,” Bryant said at the start of the interview.

“I’m so appreciative to be able to mark in history that I lived in the same chasm of time as one of the greatest leaders of our people.”

In a social media post published in 2019 and later deleted, Bryant also said he was “humbled” to be in Farrakhan’s presence. Dozens of other posts expressing support for Farrakhan have also been removed, along with Bryant’s former X account.

Bryant’s previous comments resurfaced after he appeared at several Bottoms campaign fundraisers and rallies during her bid for governor.

The pastor donated $5,000 to Bottoms’ leadership PAC in late October. Last week, he joined controversial civil rights attorney Ben Crump at a campaign fundraiser, where he offered enthusiastic praise for Bottoms.

Several days later, Bryant appeared at a rally for Bottoms and Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff that featured Obama. He urged Georgia Democrats to turn out to vote and encouraged them to “dress up as change makers” for Halloween.

In a Facebook post summarizing the gathering, Bryant wrote that he was “honored to be one of the keynote speakers.”

Bottoms, for her part, appeared earlier this year on Bryant’s Let’s Be Clear podcast and said: ‘I am honored to be here…I love you. I love your family and I watch your podcast, so I am just honored to be counted in the number.’ 

And Bryant used another episode of the podcast to tell his audience that ‘we gotta support Keisha Lance Bottoms, not just because she’s black, but because she is the best.’ 

The Republican Governors Association have come out swinging over the gushing public support – and Bottoms’s apparent embrace of it. 

‘Jamal Bryant praises anti-Semites and calls Republicans “roaches,” Ben Crump profits off racial division, and Keisha Lance Bottoms calls them allies,’ Block said. 

‘Not a smart move days before the election,’ a Democratic consultant told the Daily Mail. 

Meanwhile, Bryant’s past remarks also include criticizing gay people, which he framed as a ‘sin’ during a 2012 sermon at the Baltimore Empowerment Temple, encouraging believers to make sinners feel ‘uncomfortable in [their] sin.’

He further expressed frustration over the Obama-Biden stance on same-sex marriage, asserting that black pastors were betrayed by the lack of advance notice of the administration’s support for gay marriage and that Obama was ‘black and wrong.’

Bottoms, who has been a longtime supporter of gay rights and has called for ‘protecting the dignity and freedom of all who call Atlanta home,’ appointed the city’s first LGBTQ affairs coordinator and formed an LGBTQ advisory board during her tenure as mayor.

She isn’t the first Democratic politician that Bryant has campaigned with.

He hosted failed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in 2024 at his church and previously campaigned with twice-failed Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, a Democrat.

Bryant previously called Harris an ‘American hero’ and a ‘voice of the future’ in 2024. Harris returned the praise by saying she was honored to be in attendance at his church to ‘celebrate’ what he has ‘accomplished.’

Eve Markoski-Wood has been seen for the first time since the alleged attack that devastated her family, as details from Sam Wood’s unsuccessful bail application highlighted her crucial role as a witness.

Wood is facing at least another year behind bars, along with the collapse of his fitness career. Since Friday’s Supreme Court bail hearing in Queensland, Eve’s position as the first person to respond and the main witness to the alleged incident has become increasingly clear.

The fashion student, who is enrolled at a university in the United States, was visiting Noosa when the alleged incident on October 3 tore her family apart. This week, she was photographed in Melbourne supporting one of her three younger sisters — the eldest daughter Snezana shares with Wood — during a shopping trip to Woolworths.

Eve was the only adult witness, apart from Wood and Snezana, to the incident that resulted in Wood being charged with offences the judge described as “choking, suffocation and strangulation in a domestic setting, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm”.

During Wood’s unsuccessful bail hearing in October, Snezana’s police statement detailed the alleged strangulation and “the banging of her head on the floor. She couldn’t breathe. She thought she was going to die.”

Eve was the person who called police to the scene. She is expected to give evidence if the matter proceeds to trial, making her testimony potentially central to the prosecution case.

Supreme Court Justice Patrick McCafferty KC referred to Eve as “the witness” who allegedly heard Wood tell her and her mother: “You can both die, I’m going to send you back to your family.”

In refusing Wood bail, Justice McCafferty accepted the prosecutor’s argument that the former Channel Ten star posed an “unacceptable risk to the safety and welfare of others, particularly” Snezana, and could “obstruct the course of justice (and) interfere with the witness”.

Justice McCafferty said that, after Wood allegedly stated “you can both die”, “the witness” shut and locked a door, then heard her mother gasping as her voice became muffled. Snezana was allegedly pushed against a wall with Wood’s hand around her throat, with his grip tightening until she could not breathe or call out.

“(Wood) grabbed the complainant (Snezana) by the throat and pushed her against the wall with his hands on her throat,” he said.

Crown Prosecutor Jessica Guy told the court that Snezana fell to the ground as she “tried to remove his hand or hands upon her neck and hit the skirting board and he was not deterred despite there being in a large part the presence of an adult witness”.

Snezana then allegedly “banged her head against the wall or the corner of the floor”. Eve subsequently found her mother “sitting against the hallway, slumped forward… holding [her] neck”.

Wood’s barrister sought to challenge Ms Guy’s argument about the dangerous, and sometimes fatal, nature of strangulation and choking as a predictor of future or escalating domestic violence.

Paula Morreau KC accepted that “the offences are serious”, but argued that “they are not the most serious” choking or strangulation offences, which can carry a sentence of up to 14 years in prison. She also said the case against Wood “rests on witness testimony”.

Ms Morreau told the court that, if granted bail, Wood would live in Tasmania with his two siblings and father. He would leave “the island surrounded by water” only to attend court hearings in Queensland.

She said that since the incident, Wood’s ’employment has been placed in a precarious state’ and, if released on bail, he would attend ‘a men’s behavioural training program’.

Wood’s father, Andrew ‘Woody’ Wood, is believed to have offered a $1million surety as part of a proposal for his son to be released on bail and live in Tasmania.

Andrew Wood, a retired restaurant manager who formerly worked front of house at Hobart’s popular Fish Frenzy, has owned the West Hobart house where Sam grew up for almost 40 years.

But Justice McCafferty found the risks to Snezana and Eve too great. In delivering his decision to deny Wood bail, the judge said he had to consider both ‘the complainant and the witness’.

‘The most significant matter is the risk of [Wood] committing an offence on bail or further domestic violence offences.

‘The allegations are trustworthy and credible evidence in my opinion.’

It is unclear if and when Eve will return to her studies at Parsons School of Design, the private art and design college in New York, as she supports her mother and sisters.

She appeared to joke on her TikTok page about her financial situation, describing herself as a ‘fashion student’ with a ‘mysterious income’.

While Sam Wood adjusts to his indefinite stay at the maximum-security Wolston Correctional Centre west of Brisbane, the family’s financial future is uncertain, with his fitness business, 28 By Sam Wood, in upheaval.

Snezana and Sam Wood’s $7million house in Brighton, in Melbourne’s south-east, is on the market. The couple also own a $3.2million home in Mount Martha, on the Mornington Peninsula.

Wood, who the court heard last week had been living a ‘party lifestyle’ involving ‘alleged drug use, alcohol use’, could make a third attempt to secure bail.

Between his first and second bail applications, Wood replaced his original lawyer with the more prominent Ms Morreau KC.

Any new lawyer would have to convince the court there had been a substantial change in Wood’s circumstances to justify release and propose additional conditions to mitigate risk.

Sam Wood and Snezana Markoski, who was a single mother from Perth, met on the 2015 season of The Bachelor and married in 2018.

In Brisbane court last week, his own legal counsel said the couple is ‘expected to separate’.

In April last year, Wood revealed in a Mamamia podcast interview that he and Snezana began marriage counselling, partly due to disagreements over how best to discipline Eve.

He claimed tensions between them escalated during the Covid pandemic, describing their home as a ‘pressure cooker environment’.

‘Everyone thinks, “Oh, you guys have got it all worked out.”  We don’t have it worked out. We are a dog’s breakfast. It’s a madhouse, and it’s stressful, and we’re exhausted and we’re probably like everybody else,’ he said.

He admitted that Instagram did not show the reality of their family life behind closed doors, adding that his relationships with Snezana and Eve were tested during lockdowns.

Wood explained that his stepdaughter ‘was working herself out’ as a teenager and ‘she was pretty challenging’ at ages 14, 15, and 16.

‘So it was a pressure-cooker environment and I thought she needed more discipline, and Snez didn’t, and that put a strain on our relationship. And we do butt heads a lot on boundaries and what they need,’ he said.

Wood added that he was initially resistant when Snezana suggested couples counselling, saying he ‘got defensive as soon as it was suggested’.

‘I was like, “But what’s wrong with us? Why do we need that? What do we need to fix?” I didn’t go kicking and screaming, but I wasn’t rapt in the idea, even walking in the door,’ he said.

However, Wood went on to say he eventually ‘flipped over time’ and began to see marriage counselling as a ‘calming’ and ‘vulnerable’ experience.
