The Pentagon is taking steps to prepare U.S. military installations for a worst-case conflict in which a major war knocks out power networks and disrupts vital supply lines across the country.

The preparations form part of FORTRESS, a wider strategy designed to keep American forces operating if civilian infrastructure collapses, according to documents reviewed by Fox News.

Under the plan, every major military base in the continental United States would need to sustain core functions for 90 days with its own electricity, water, fuel and communications.

Proposed measures include portable nuclear reactors, high-capacity battery systems and self-contained microgrids capable of keeping bases operational during extended blackouts.

The strategy would also position civilian manufacturers to convert to defense work during a crisis, supported by reserves of ammunition, fuel, critical minerals, electronics, replacement components and medical equipment.

For essential military requirements, the Pentagon would seek at least two approved suppliers or production routes, reducing the danger that the loss of one company could halt operations.

Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell told Fox News: “We don’t want to rely on standard civilian municipal infrastructure to run our national defense.

“We just simply can’t. It’s an intolerable risk.”

The initiative reflects a broader shift in Pentagon planning toward conflicts that could reach the American homeland and disable the civilian systems on which the military traditionally relies.

“Power is combat now. Without electricity, you lose communications, water, logistics, assembly lines and just basic military command structures,” Parnell told Fox News.

The threat goes well beyond a simple loss of electricity. A lengthy outage could damage communications networks, manufacturing capacity and other services needed to support troops, including those deployed overseas.

A central part of the effort is the Civil Reserve Manufacturing Network, which would map commercial plants that could be rapidly converted to military production during a national emergency.

Instead of waiting until a conflict begins, the Pentagon intends to evaluate those facilities beforehand and establish technical standards, cybersecurity protections, contracts and plans for switching production.

Manufacturers would also face recurring industrial stress tests and mobilization drills to gauge whether they could maintain output during prolonged disruptions.

According to Fox News, reserve levels would be calculated based on the rate at which supplies might be used in a major war and the time factories would require to replace them.

The preparations extend into space, including efforts to secure satellite communications and preserve military navigation and connectivity if GPS signals are jammed or other space-based capabilities are interrupted.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth formally launched FORTRESS America in a September 30 memorandum, describing its objective as creating “a homeland that cannot be starved out, shut down, or cut off.”

The directive is built around five goals: energy independence, more resilient supply chains, strategic stockpiles, hardened military facilities, and greater protection in space and across the electromagnetic spectrum.

It ordered the Pentagon’s acquisition and sustainment leadership to establish a dedicated program office within 30 days.

That office would begin with a small core team and expand to full operating capability within months, with the memorandum calling for results in weeks rather than years.

An October 6 implementation directive subsequently named Richard ‘Matt’ O’Malley as interim director, according to DefenseScoop, which obtained the document.

A two-star military adviser would assist him, while eight senior Pentagon officials were instructed to nominate representatives to coordinate with the office.

Those officials span personnel, industrial policy, installation management, technology and financial oversight, reflecting how many parts of the department would need to work together.

The public founding memo establishes the program’s structure and priorities. The more detailed 90-day requirement was subsequently described in Fox’s reporting.

‘You don’t want to be making these decisions in the middle of a global multi-front conflict. We have to have a plan,’ Parnell said.

The Daily Mail has contacted the Pentagon for comment. 

President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have fallen to historic lows, while polling for congressional Republicans remains bleak. Yet aboard the increasingly busy Air Force One campaign trail, the party atmosphere is anything but subdued.

Inside the spacious lounge of the new Air Force One donated by Qatar, Trump aides, lawmakers and their spouses mingle, take selfies and interact with celebrity guests while waiting for the president to board.

“It’s definitely a party vibe,” one guest who traveled aboard Air Force One for a campaign trip told the Daily Mail.

Trump has staged 26 rallies in just 23 days, crisscrossing states he carried in 2024 as he makes an aggressive final push to help struggling Republican candidates ahead of Election Day.

The atmosphere intensifies once Trump boards alongside his inner circle, including Natalie Harp, Dan Scavino, Margo Martin and Steven Cheung, as well as aides Walt Nauta and Chris Ambrosini.

Chief of Staff Susie Wiles sometimes joins the group and has helped revive the president’s former campaign operation. Ex-campaign officials Johnny DeStefano, Danielle Alvarez, Alex Bruesewitz and Jason Miller have returned as special government employees.

That upbeat mood, however, contrasts sharply with the national political climate that defined Trump’s previous campaign. His senior advisers believe Republican lawmakers will have no one to blame but themselves if they suffer losses in the midterms.

“The president can only do so much,” one Trump political adviser told the Daily Mail. “If we do fall short in the midterms, it’s not because of the president’s lack of trying or lack of effort.”

Trump is relying on celebrity appearances, political theater and spectacle during the final stretch before voters head to the polls.

Over the past month, the plane has carried boxing greats Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, along with NASCAR icon Richard Petty, New York Yankees president Randy Levine, former NFL coach Jon Gruden and ex-NFL running back Todd Gurley.

Nicki Minaj, the president’s most prominent celebrity supporter, also energized Trump’s Michigan campaign event last weekend. Trump’s comments about her “a**” drew additional headlines.

Former college football standout Johnny Manziel and two-time Super Bowl champion Danny Amendola likewise joined Trump during his campaign visit to Texas.

Country music performer Jason Aldean also took part in a Trump rally in Georgia.

The celebrity-heavy campaign is producing widespread attention on social media, but it has done little to reassure Republican insiders. They argue that Trump is overlooking the difficult political circumstances confronting the party.

The Daily Mail’s midterms power polling average, which analyzes broader polling trends, puts Democratic support above 51 percent, compared with 43 percent for Republicans.

Former Kansas Republican Gov. Bill Graves told CNN that Trump’s rallies resembled “the freak show at the carnival,” while criticizing what he called the president’s “infatuation with his own self.”

‘It’s always very entertaining,’ he said, ‘but whether or not it translates into increased voter turnout on behalf of Roger Marshall … is hard to be believed.’

The rallies have done nothing to lift Trump’s approval ratings, which remain stubbornly low.

‘Midterms are decided by the president’s approval numbers and economic sentiment, and both of those are absolutely atrocious,’ a Republican campaign leadership aide told the Daily Mail.

A second Republican strategist said efforts to get Trump to focus on affordability and gas prices had fallen flat. ‘The war in Iran was definitely not a smart move. Republicans should have been pushing back a little bit on him, but they’re all afraid.’

On Thursday, Trump abruptly cancelled weekend trips to Kansas and Iowa, two of the toss-up states. He reinstated them less than 24 hours later, after a backlash in the media.

With time running out, lawmakers and staff aboard Air Force One are making memories while they can.

Trump greets every guest when he boards, shaking hands, posing for photos and often giving a quick tour of the plane.

‘It’s an exciting environment,’ a senior White House official told the Daily Mail. ‘Everyone is super-jazzed. A lot of these people have never been on Air Force One.’

After urging everyone to enjoy themselves, he retreats to his office for last-minute calls and meetings.

The days of late-night McDonald’s are over. White House chefs now serve meals that typically reflect the cuisine of the destination, one traveller said. Trump also hands out a steady supply of sweets, including presidential M&M’s, Hershey’s Kisses and Starbursts, which guests keep as souvenirs.

On the outbound flight, Trump works on his speech with speechwriter Ross Worthington and goes over the latest numbers with White House political advisers Matt Brasseaux and Richard Walters.

Outside adviser James Blair, who left the White House in April to focus on the midterms, is back in the fold and working ‘hand in glove’ with Brasseaux, an official said.

His return comes after Trump threatened to fire him when he and fellow adviser Chris LaCivita were caught travelling to the Balkans to advise on a foreign campaign. The president was reportedly placated when the pair donated their fees to his presidential library.

Trump remains dismissive of public polling, but he is closely tracking voter registration margins and early returns.

‘He’s thinking about it holistically,’ said an official familiar with his thinking. ‘He’s focused on winning the midterms. We’re all in this boat together, rowing in the same direction.’

When candidates travel with him, Trump meets with them privately to discuss their races.

The burst of energy has surprised Republican lawmakers, who grumbled privately for most of 2026 that Trump had no appetite for the campaign trail. He has now held 26 rallies in 23 days, almost all in states he won in 2024. Florida, Kansas and Iowa are next before Tuesday’s vote.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has been conspicuously absent from the trips. Majority Whip John Barrasso of Wyoming, by contrast, has flown with Trump several times.

‘We are doing all we can to get out the votes in these key Senate races,’ Barrasso told the Daily Mail. ‘It’s so important for voters to know the difference between commonsense Republicans and crazy Democrats.

‘President Trump is crisscrossing the nation to share this message with every single voter, and I’m glad to be with him in so many states.’

Some celebrity guests get a ride on Marine One, or even in The Beast, the armored presidential limo.

‘Mike Tyson gets to ride on Marine One, because Mike Tyson is an American legend,’ one Trump adviser said.

The real party starts on the flight home, when Trump holds court in the centre lounge with football or Fox News on the screens.

‘It’s a bit more social. There’s definitely more of a party vibe on the trip back,’ one guest said.

‘There’s no sleeping. Everyone is cutting loose, talking or working,’ said another.

Anyone who dozes off risks being photographed and mocked in group chats.

Trump himself never sleeps on the plane. ‘To say he is the Energizer bunny is an understatement,’ a senior White House aide said.

If Republicans fall short, his team is quick to note that he still has two years left in office, whoever controls Congress.

‘At the end of the day, I believe that our campaign apparatus, the president’s apparatus, has done everything they can possibly do to help Republicans win,’ one senior official said.

The plane typically lands at Joint Base Andrews in the early hours. Bleary-eyed staff head home, only to be back at the White House a few hours later for the next whirlwind trip.

Kimi Antonelli has turned early-season uncertainty into a championship triumph. His speed was never seriously questioned, but his rookie year had been marked by costly mistakes, while he was comprehensively outperformed by Mercedes team-mate George Russell.

Many believed Mercedes had placed him under the spotlight too soon by handing him a front-running seat instead of allowing him to develop away from the intense scrutiny of a leading team. That criticism, in hindsight, carried some weight.

A season or two with a team such as Williams might have offered the teenager a gentler introduction to Formula One. Antonelli was only 18 when he inherited the seat vacated by Sir Lewis Hamilton, a responsibility that would have tested drivers with far more experience.

The questions were obvious: could he recover from the pressure, and could he control the exuberance that sometimes accompanied his breathtaking pace? Throughout it all, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff remained firmly in his corner, offering the young Italian the support he needed.

Wolff had brought Antonelli into the Mercedes junior programme when he was just 12 and had never lost faith in the belief that he had discovered Hamilton’s successor. He made that conviction clear to Antonelli both behind closed doors and in public.

Even so, doubts remained throughout the paddock. When I asked one team principal for an assessment at the beginning of the season, his verdict was blunt: Antonelli was “undoubtedly quick but prone to too many mistakes.”

In 2026, however, Antonelli has displayed remarkable composure, particularly for a driver who is still only 20. That age makes his achievement even more striking. Few young talents have shown such early brilliance: Stirling Moss won his landmark race at Goodwood on his 19th birthday in 1948, while Max Verstappen claimed his first Formula One victory in Spain at 18 in 2016. Antonelli now belongs in that rare company.

He quickly established a clear advantage over Russell, who began the campaign as the favourite and believed his long-awaited opportunity had finally arrived. Russell won in Melbourne with a spectacular opening statement, creating the impression that the title might be his to lose.

The championship’s decisive shift came in China, where Antonelli earned his first victory just one week after Russell’s Australian triumph. Mercedes had a chance to keep its rising star at bay, but Antonelli instead took control of the contest.

Russell, despite winning the Chinese sprint, appeared to take a psychological blow when Antonelli beat him by five seconds in the grand prix the following day. Antonelli had started from pole, another first in his rapidly developing career, and then maintained relentless momentum. He was also benefiting from Mercedes having the fastest car on the grid during the opening phase of the season, before rivals began to close the gap.

Successive victories in Japan, Miami, Canada and Monaco delivered another severe blow to Russell. He initially projected confidence, but it became increasingly clear that he was struggling to find the right way to extract performance from his Mercedes as the championship began to slip away.

Russell did endure the greater share of misfortune, and there may also have been a subtle preference within Mercedes for Antonelli. It was not a matter of deliberate wrongdoing, but a natural leaning towards the driver the team viewed as its next great star.

By then, the damage to Russell’s title hopes was substantial. Antonelli, expertly guided by Peter “Bono” Bonnington, Lewis Hamilton’s former race engineer, continued to collect points with impressive regularity. Even when he was not at his best, he was almost always in contention.

After going three races without a win—including Hamilton’s first victory for Ferrari in Barcelona, which ultimately proved to be a false dawn for the Italian team—Antonelli returned to the top step at Spa. The result produced another major swing in the standings: Russell was taken out after colliding with Hamilton on the opening lap, while Hamilton received a five-second penalty.

Antonelli resisted Charles Leclerc to secure the victory, extending his advantage to 45 points over Hamilton and 50 over Russell.

His most memorable performance may have come at Monza, where he won his home Italian Grand Prix from the back of the grid after taking an engine-change penalty. Mercedes had a fast car, a powerful new unit and a favourable strategy, but none of that diminished the quality of Antonelli’s recovery drive.

The crowd would almost certainly have preferred to see Ferrari win. Red shirts and banners dominated the grandstands, while Mercedes colours were difficult to spot. Yet Antonelli’s victory still elevated him to a new status in his homeland.

Another crucial moment arrived when Russell’s engine failed late in the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia at the start of last month. That effectively settled the championship, even though Antonelli finished second behind a resurgent Max Verstappen and Red Bull. The points had been accumulating steadily, and Antonelli reinforced his position with a commanding victory in Austin last weekend.

He has now secured the Formula One world championship with four rounds still scheduled, although the planned Middle Eastern finales in Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain subject to the effects of the war. Should those races be cancelled, Imola is expected to host the alternative season finale.

For the driver born only 20 miles from Bologna, it promises to be a celebration of extraordinary scale.

A federal judge on Sunday rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to block certification of the Alaska Senate election results before the vote.

The ruling dealt a significant setback to the administration just two days before the November 3 midterm elections.

The Justice Department argued that Daniel J. Sullivan, whom the Trump administration has labeled “Decoy Dan,” had entered the race as a “frivolous candidate to confuse voters.”

“Alaskan voters deserve a fair election, not to be misled in an attempt to rig outcomes,” the DOJ said in its filing.

U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason ruled that the Trump administration lacked standing to bring the lawsuit. The case sought to compel Alaska to separate ballots if Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan lost his reelection campaign to Democratic candidate Mary Peltola.

The Justice Department is appealing the decision, although it remains unclear whether any significant action will be possible before Election Day on Tuesday, November 3.

The Senate contest has drawn unusual national attention in recent weeks after reports that Daniel J. Sullivan, a Republican whose name is nearly identical to that of the incumbent, may have entered the race as a spoiler candidate in an effort to divide Republican support.

In its lawsuit, the Justice Department argued that the second Sullivan’s campaign was intended to “dupe Alaska’s voters into believing that he is Senator Sullivan.” The department asked the court to segregate the ballots if Peltola won. But Gleason said Sunday that doing so would be impossible without violating voters’ right to privacy and the secrecy of the ballot.

The DOJ, she said, had offered “no workable plan” for separating the ballots without violating voters’ fundamental privacy protections.

“The absence of any explanation from the United States as to how its requested relief could redress its alleged injury while simultaneously maintaining the secrecy of the ballot is telling,” Gleason wrote.

“Simply, the Court cannot grant the United States the relief it seeks.”

The ruling came as Sullivan and Peltola remained locked in a close contest that the Cook Political Report had classified as a “toss-up.”

The outcome could also shift the balance of power in the Senate toward Democrats if Peltola defeats Sullivan in his reelection bid.

Gleason also refused to allow the Trump administration to amend its complaint further, saying such a move would be futile and would place an excessive burden on Alaska election officials with only two days remaining before the November 3 election.

The judge additionally warned that increased scrutiny of the ballots could discourage people from voting.

The dismissal followed concerns Gleason raised during a hearing the previous week about the timing of the DOJ lawsuit. She noted that Alaskans had already begun voting in the midterm elections and that the legal challenge came four months after the Alaska Supreme Court approved Daniel J. Sullivan’s appearance on the ballot, along with several distinguishing details intended to help voters identify the incumbent Dan Sullivan.

The decision marks the latest in a series of high-profile defeats for the Trump administration as it has sought, with limited success, to expand federal control over the midterm elections.

These efforts have touched off a torrent of lawsuits from state and local election officials, who argue that the efforts illegally infringe on states’ rights, including their right to administer elections under the Voting Rights Act and the US Constitution. 

But it’s not the only effort the Trump administration has launched in Alaska in a bid to investigate the so-called ‘Decoy Dan.’ 

Last month, the Justice Department separately launched a criminal investigation into the campaign of the ‘second’ Dan Sullivan.

The extent of that probe is unclear, though it is believed to hinge in part on allegations of conspiracy under a Voting Rights Act-era law.

Peltola’s campaign and the national Democratic Party denied any connection to Daniel J Sullivan’s candidacy.

The White House directed the Daily Mail to the DOJ for comment.

Marilee Fiebig and Andrew Shue have married at their picturesque New Jersey farm, celebrating their new chapter just over a month after their former spouses, T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, wed. The Daily Mail can exclusively reveal the couple exchanged vows on Sunday.

Fiebig, a 49-year-old attorney, and Shue, the 59-year-old former Melrose Place star and philanthropist, held an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and close friends. The wedding took place at their private 92-acre estate near Stockton, a scenic village along the Delaware River.

Shue bought the expansive property for $3.2 million in April 2023. With an equestrian farm, two historic residences dating to as early as the 18th century, open pasture, forest and a flowing stream, the grounds offered a striking autumn setting for the wedding.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, Fiebig departed the nearby inn where she had spent the night. She wore a sophisticated, floor-length white lace gown featuring an off-the-shoulder, corset-inspired bodice.

A coordinating white shawl draped over her shoulders, while a delicate netted half-veil framed her dark hair, styled in an elegant updo. She completed the bridal look with satin block heels.

Fiebig’s 13-year-old daughter, Sabine, whom she shares with Holmes, accompanied her and appeared to serve as a bridesmaid. She carried a bouquet of white flowers and wore a long navy satin dress with metallic heels.

Fiebig was also joined by her close friend Lisa Bashishow, a finance executive whose career spans the music and entertainment industries. Bashishow wore a sleeveless green satin midi dress accented with cream lace and paired with brown cowboy boots.

The party climbed aboard a white shuttle bus waiting outside the cottage and made its way to the couple’s country estate for the wedding ceremony.

Shue’s sister, actress Elisabeth Shue, 63, was among those celebrating under a large white marquee specially installed on the property for the wedding festivities.

The couple appeared to follow a traditional wedding custom on Saturday night, with Fiebig staying at one of the Woolverton Inn’s luxury cottages alongside her teenage daughter.

The wedding followed the September 19 marriage of their former spouses, Robach, 53, and Holmes, 49, who held a private ceremony in Holmes’ home state of Arkansas.

Sunday’s ceremony marked a surprising new turn in a story that began when Holmes and Robach, then co-hosts on ABC’s Good Morning America lunchtime program, GMA3, began a relationship while still married to Fiebig and Shue.

The four had previously been close friends, sharing meals and supporting one another at sporting events.

Holmes and Robach later lost their positions after the Daily Mail reported on their off-screen relationship in November 2022.

Both couples had been married for more than 10 years and were reportedly separated before the relationships involving the former GMA3 hosts became public.

Holmes and Fiebig finalized their divorce in late 2023, while Robach and Shue reached a divorce agreement through mediation earlier that same year.

Robach and Shue did not have any children together, but previously praised their ‘blended family’ as Shue’s three sons were joined by Robach’s two daughters when they married in 2010.  

In the months that followed, Fiebig and Shue bonded over the very public collapse of their marriages.

Their close bond blossomed into romance, and their relationship was publicly revealed in December 2023.

The couple moved in together in February 2025 before getting engaged this spring.

Announcing their engagement just ten days ago, Shue told People: ‘I don’t know how it happened, but there’s a happy ending.

‘This just happened to be our way of getting to know each other and being able to share ourselves with each other in a time where we both needed a friend.’

Their wedding weekend began on Saturday evening with an intimate sunset cocktail reception at the Woolverton Inn, a boutique hotel and bed-and-breakfast featuring an 18th-century manor and several cottages perched on 300 acres above the Delaware River.

Around 40 family members and close friends gathered in the upstairs section of the inn’s Northridge restaurant, a converted barn that now serves as a fine-dining venue.

Staff were seen making final preparations throughout the afternoon as guests arrived for the celebrations, with one worker seen carrying a large steel drinks bucket filled with beverages.

Exclusive Daily Mail photographs show the lovebirds arriving at the inn earlier in the day unloading suitcases and boxes from Shue’s green Toyota Land Cruiser.

He took the luggage inside the inn, where it is believed the bride-to-be stayed on Saturday night.

Shue left his bride at the inn and later returned wearing a navy suit paired with a light blue shirt and lace-up boots, accompanied by his sons Nate, 30, Aidan, 27, and Wyatt, 22, from his first marriage, to Jennifer Hageney.

Meanwhile, the glowing bride greeted guests in a champagne-colored chiffon skirt, cream sleeveless top and matching cover-up.

A beaming Fiebig was snapped welcoming Shue’s actress sister, Elisabeth Shue, 63, who flew in from Los Angeles with her filmmaker husband, Davis Guggenheim, and their daughter.

She was also seen warmly embracing Shue’s brother John, 56, who traveled from Massachusetts for the celebrations.

Elisabeth and Andrew were seen assisting their mother, Anne Harms, who uses a walker, into the venue. 

Their father, James W Shue, who was divorced from their mother when they were young, died in 2013.

Harms previously officiated her son’s wedding to Robach, but it is unclear if she has taken on such a role in his wedding to Fiebig.

Shue was born in Wilmington, Delaware, and became best known for his role as Billy Campbell in the Beverly Hills spinoff, Melrose Place, starring in the drama for six seasons.

He later tried his hand at soccer, appearing for the Bulawayo Highlanders in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League, and later made five appearances for the LA Galaxy in the 1996-97 Major League Soccer season.

Shue then became an entrepreneur and founder of the charity DoSomething and the website CafeMom with his friend Michael Sanchez.

DoSomething aims to inspire and engage young people to create positive change in the world, both online and offline, through various campaigns.

He recently launched The Forum, a nonpartisan civic initiative with political minds from across the ideological spectrum.

In a profile in Town & Country’s November 2026 Philanthropy issue, Shue said the initiative’s end goal is to ‘help set a different tone for 2028 and beyond.’

He told the publication the Forum ‘is currently operating in three states – South Carolina, Nevada and New Hampshire – and it works in phases.’

Shue readily acknowledges he has already encountered naysayers when it comes to his latest project.

‘There’s been a few good-luck-with-thats,’ he admitted. ‘But I don’t have time to be cynical. Our leaders have been working in a system that is broken, and now corrupt, and they can’t get out of it.’

‘So we need to get them out of it. We need to flip the script. The American people should be leading, and our leaders should be following.’

‘We’ve been watching the same bad movie every two years, with the same games and the same rabid partisanship in primaries, all for one and a half percent of voters to determine who gets into power…. I’m sure in my bones this is the only way we’re going to get ourselves out of the mess that America is in.’

 The bride’s close-knit family also traveled for the wedding weekend, including her parents, Pauline, 69, and William, 78, as well as her attorney siblings, Chantale, 46, and Jason, 43, and their families.

Fiebig currently serves as legal counsel and a partner at Axis Hats, a luxury arthouse based in New York City.

The 49-year-old was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where her mother is from, and met her father when he was serving in the Peace Corps.

The family moved to the United States when Fiebig was five years old ‘because my mom wanted my siblings and me to fully take advantage of the educational opportunities that she didn’t have growing up in Africa,’ she previously told Marie Claire.

Fiebig said her experience moving to the United States inspired her to become an immigration attorney.

The Vanderbilt Law and University of Michigan graduate worked at global law firms in Atlanta, Georgia and New York City.

She later become Chief Diversity Officer at Save the Children, the international humanitarian organization, and worked for the rapper Jay-Z, as Chief of Staff at his entertainment agency RocNation.
