Claiborne County Honors the Life of Mayor Joe Brooks Following Tragic Motorcycle Accident

CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — An air of mourning envelops East Tennessee as friends, business leaders, and officials grieve the sudden passing of Claiborne County Mayor Joe Brooks, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Friday night.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has reported that the 56-year-old Brooks was driving a 2014 Harley-Davidson north on State Route 33 in Union County at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Friday. Authorities indicate that he was unable to navigate a curve near the Claiborne County border, causing him to veer off, strike a guardrail, and return to the roadway before finally stopping uncontrollably. Despite wearing a helmet, Brooks succumbed to his injuries. The crash is currently under investigation.

By Saturday, a wave of heartfelt tributes from the community began to pour in, as residents reminisced about Brooks’ extensive public service and the significant mark he left on their lives.

Tributes from neighboring county leaders, law enforcement, emergency management, healthcare organizations, and local community groups praised Brooks as a devoted public servant, respected leader, and loyal friend. His deep commitment to Claiborne County and its residents was fondly remembered.

At Rustic River Restaurant and Kayaking, owners Marci Clawson and Joe Heinz said Brooks was much more than a frequent customer.

“He supported our company like no other,” they said. “He would be here for all our events.”

The couple said Brooks regularly attended community gatherings, encouraged local businesses and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed it.

“If I needed anything — a tractor or a truck or whatever — I could call him,” Joe Heinz said. “He’d say, ‘Hey, what do you need?’ That’s awesome as our mayor around here.”

The owners said Brooks’ presence was something customers and employees alike came to expect, remembering his welcoming personality and constant smile.

“He always had a smile, and he gave me a hug every time I saw him,” Clawson said.

“His energy was great,” Heinz added.

As Claiborne County begins to grieve the unexpected loss of its mayor, those who knew Brooks best say they’ll remember him not only for his leadership, but for the kindness, encouragement and genuine care he showed to the people around him.

Empowerment in Action: Allendale County Unites to Boost Voter Registration and Civic Engagement

FAIRFAX, S.C. — Efforts are underway in Fairfax to boost voter registration and engage citizens in the electoral process ahead of upcoming elections.

Phyllis Smart, a committed Town Councilwoman in Fairfax, is spearheading a community-focused event on Saturday, August 1. The gathering will take place at the Fairfax Senior Center, running from 9 a.m. until noon.

“Attendees can look forward to direct conversations with candidates vying for offices in South Carolina,” Smart explained. “This is a chance to hear firsthand about their platforms and what they hope to achieve if elected.”

The event will showcase discussions with Sylvia Wright, a hopeful for the superintendent of education, alongside Jason Belton, who is campaigning for the role of secretary of state.

According to Smart, these dialogues hold great significance as they address pressing questions about community issues that matter to Fairfax residents.

“A lot of the community members want to know what’s going to happen with school district and how that is going to formulate,” Smart said. “And also, a lot of people want to open businesses and find out about getting nonprofits and businesses registered and registered the right way.”

The goal is not only to register new voters but also encourage people who are already registered.

“I believe we have a lot of sleeping giants and they’re just asleep because they’ve seen how voter registrations have gone,” Smart said. “You’ve seen how different elections have gone. And they really feel that their voice, their vote is not representing their voice.”

She says one challenge is changing the perception that voting does not matter.

“You can’t just kind of lay dormant and not do anything. Your vote does change things because we’ve seen it in Allendale. We’ve seen how the votes and when people get out to vote, it changes things,” Smart said.

The event will include conversations with candidates and opportunities for voters to ask questions.

Smart says people can reach out to her on Facebook or call 803-508-5837 for more information, including volunteer and sponsor opportunities.

Tragic Double Homicide: 19-Year-Old Fatally Shoots Ex-Girlfriend and Her Brother in Harris County, Texas

0

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — In a tragic incident on Sunday morning, a young girl and her older brother were fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend during a confrontation in Texas, officials report.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies quickly responded to reports of the shooting on West Canino Road in northern Harris County, with the call coming in around 10:50 a.m. local time.

Preliminary findings reveal that the altercation began as the 17-year-old girl stood outside a residence with a toddler. Her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend, reportedly armed, initiated the confrontation, leading to a heated argument.

In a heroic attempt to defuse the situation, the girl’s 29-year-old brother exited the house. He positioned himself protectively before his sister, but tragically, the armed ex-boyfriend opened fire, killing both siblings before fleeing.

When deputies arrived, they immediately began emergency medical procedures until EMS arrived, but despite their efforts, the victims were pronounced dead on the scene. Thankfully, the toddler survived unscathed, authorities confirmed.

HCSO said that its patrol units, along with Humble Police Department officers and police dogs, found the suspect in the 8800-block of Will Clayton Road and took him into custody.

HCSO officials said the investigation remains ongoing and possible charges are pending.

U.S. Immigration Launches Sweeping Actions Affecting Thousands of Haitians Facing Loss of TPS

0

In a significant development, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is gearing up to intensively search for and detain Haitian nationals poised to lose their Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This decision, shared with Fox News by numerous federal insiders, marks a dramatic escalation in operations.

Plans for this expanded operation could kick off as early as this week, signaling a robust federal response.

The pathway for this enforcement action is being cleared by the Supreme Court, which is set to send down its certified judgment to the lower courts on Monday. This move will empower the Trump administration to terminate TPS protections for over 300,000 Haitian individuals.

Federal sources revealed to Fox News that Ohio is expected to be a prominent focus of this operation, primarily because of Springfield’s substantial Haitian community. These operational tactics have been communicated to ICE leadership, ensuring that the agency is fully informed of the plans.

Last month, the Supreme Court reversed lower-court judgments that had postponed the administration’s TPS terminations for Haiti and Syria while litigation continued.

TPS was first granted to Haiti following the country’s devastating 2010 earthquake. The designation allows eligible foreign nationals from countries experiencing armed conflict, natural disasters or other extraordinary conditions to temporarily live and work legally in the United States.

The anticipated enforcement operation follows the Trump administration’s long-running effort to end Haiti’s TPS designation, arguing that the program was never intended to become a permanent form of legal status.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson called the ruling “a tremendous win” for the administration.

“Today, the Supreme Court affirmed what President Trump has always maintained: temporary protected status is, by definition, temporary. It was never intended to be a pathway to permanent status or legal residency,” Jackson told News Media. “The Trump Administration continues to lawfully end the egregious abuses to our immigration system that have hurt Americans for years.”

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) General Counsel James Percival also praised the ruling in a post on X.

“The Court vindicates DHS yet again,” Percival wrote. “The T in TPS stands for TEMPORARY, yet many of these designations became de facto amnesty. This is a win for the rule of law and common sense.”

The anticipated enforcement operation comes as Springfield remains a focal point in the national immigration debate after the rapid growth of its Haitian community thrust the Ohio city into the national spotlight during the 2024 presidential campaign.

German Police Fatally Shoot Suspect in Berlin Pride Attack

0

An overnight confrontation in a Berlin suburb resulted in authorities fatally shooting the suspect linked to a tragic attack during Berlin Pride, which cost one life and injured 29 others.

The suspect, Abdul Ballout, a German citizen, was located and neutralized nearly a day after the harrowing incident unfolded in central Berlin.

At just 21 years old, Ballout allegedly rammed a van into the crowd at the Berlin Pride celebration on Saturday evening, before reportedly assaulting others with a machete.

According to Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, the distressing events took place just a short distance from a celebration near Brandenburg Gate intended to mark the finale of the city’s Pride festivities.

Ballout was eventually discovered at approximately 2am AEST on Monday in a garden located in Spandau, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Berlin, according to city police via social media platform X. They recounted that Ballout seemingly charged at officers with a bladed weapon, prompting law enforcement to discharge at least one bullet, resulting in his death on the spot.

What we know about the Berlin attack suspect

Ballout was born in Germany, the minister said. His mother was naturalised in 2002, three years before he was born.

Dobrindt said Ballout had been known to the authorities for a “high number” of previous crimes and for being radicalised.

“Everything we see here indicates that this was an Islamist terror attack,” he said.

Prosecutors said Ballout had previous convictions for bodily harm and extortion committed in 2019, and one for robbery in 2020.

They say that in 2024 he shared IS propaganda on Instagram and the following year travelled to Lebanon in order to fight for the militia in Syria.

He was arrested in Lebanon and sentenced to three months’ prison for offences including incitement to religious and sectarian conflict.

He returned to Germany after completing his sentence, where he was arrested at the Berlin airport.

In May, a juvenile court in Berlin convicted Ballout of preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state, as well as publishing the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group’s propaganda on his Instagram account and other charges, prosecutors said.

The court handed down a suspended sentence of one year and 10 months in youth custody, which Berlin prosecutors had appealed.

The court said it took Ballout’s months of pre-trial detention in Germany and Lebanon into account. It also said it considered that Ballout had confessed to the crimes, appeared to distance himself from the militant group, and no actual threat had ever materialised.

He was released from detention pending the appeal.

‘Won’t beat us down’

According to police, a white van drove into the Tiergarten park around 10 pm on Saturday and hit several people before colliding with a tree. The closing party at the Pride festival, known as Christopher Street Day (CSD), was ongoing at the time next to the Brandenburg Gate, a short distance away. The party followed a parade with some 80 trucks that had made its way through downtown Berlin earlier in the day.

The attack did not occur at the festival, along its route or at the closing party. Rather, the violence took place a few hundred metres away on a track in the Tiergarten park. The van drove into a crowd that was likely a mix of festivalgoers and other locals or visitors.

Police said a woman was killed.

On Sunday afternoon, hundreds of mourners gathered at a memorial at the iconic gate. They hugged each other and laid down flowers, candles, rainbow flags and homemade signs, including a cardboard one that said: “The only thing more powerful than hate is love”.

Hundreds of thousands had come to Berlin to celebrate on Saturday, though it’s unclear how many were still at the festival by late evening. It’s one of Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ celebrations.

Luka, a 23-year-old student, told Agence France-Presse (AFp) she hoped the attack wouldn’t be exploited by the surging anti-immigration far-right ahead of elections in the capital and in several regions in September.

At the scene of the attack itself, people left flowers and handwritten messages of condolence and support.

Two people lay flowers in a memorial with more people standing behind them, mourning.

Armin Duenhoelter, 49, from Wolfsburg, who works as a drag artist, was backstage at the main stage when the attack cut short the celebrations.

He told AFP early Sunday that he was still shocked but vowed to be back for next year’s CSD.

“We won’t let it beat us down,” he said.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged the nation to remain united in the aftermath of the attack.

“I would like to say this to Christopher Street Day participants here in Berlin but also across Germany: Don’t let yourselves, let us not let ourselves, be intimidated,” he said.

“These acts have only one purpose: They aim to divide our society. They want to take away from us the most important thing we have: Namely our openness and our freedom.”

NFL Fans Outraged as Vrabel Uses Puppy Amid Affair Scandal

0

NFL enthusiasts have taken New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel to task, accusing him of using an adorable puppy as a diversion in press conferences amidst swirling affair accusations.

The controversy ignited back in March when the New York Post released intriguing photos depicting Vrabel in a seemingly cozy interaction with Dianna Russini, a former reporter for The Athletic. The pair were seen at an Arizona retreat costing $2,500 per night, exclusively for adults.

Russini, who is married, has consistently denied any indiscretions and maintained confidence in her journalistic work concerning Vrabel. Despite her assertions, she was subsequently placed on leave by The Athletic and eventually resigned, breaking ties with its owner, The New York Times.

In contrast, Vrabel resumed his responsibilities with the Patriots, addressing the media as the team launched its training camp on Friday.

Nonetheless, much of the attention shifted away from Vrabel’s remarks to his unexpected companion—a cute German Shepherd puppy named BB—prompting fan speculation about his intentions for bringing the furry friend to the event.

It didn’t take long for many social media users to accuse Vrabel and the Patriots of attempting to use the adorable animal to ‘deflect’ from the Russini affair scandal.

The Patriots’ own social media post did little to help that. ‘A puppy at the podium,’ they wrote, alongside a ‘smiling face with hearts’ emoji.

It’s fair to say, their post didn’t go down well with fans. In response, one said: ‘PR team working overtime here for Vrabel.’

‘Pressers with puppies is the easiest way to: – disarm the tension in the room (which helps the speaker, in this case, Vrabel) – Softens the person’s image to the press (he can’t be that bad with a puppy right? – the thought).

‘The biggest problem (and why it doesn’t work) is in Vrabel’s case, we all see through it. Which then devalues the whole reason of having the puppy with you in the first place. Probably would’ve been better off just not doing the presser at all, if I were to guess.’

Another disgruntled fan said: ‘Please tell me we’re not going to have an NFL coach Herbstreit-ing a dog around all season because he’s in PR trouble, we have to start being adults about this’.

Meanwhile, one fan said: ‘Admin said he can’t be questioned while holding a puppy’.

‘Okay PR Crisis Control Team, game recognize game. Well-played,’ another said.

One user jokingly wrote: ‘Is that who he shares the doghouse with?’

Recently, Patriots owner Robert Kraft admitted that he has nothing but compassion for New England head coach Vrabel in the wake of the infidelity allegations.

Speaking at Fanatics Fest in Manhattan on July 17, the 85-year-old billionaire was asked about the upcoming NFL season months after Vrabel admitted to failing the team and his family, albeit without directly admitting to an affair.

‘Well, we’re privileged to have Mike as our head coach,’ Kraft said of the reigning NFL Coach of the Year. ‘You know, no one is infallible. And what’s great about Mike is he has great intellectual knowledge about football – all the technical skills. He relates to the players beautifully.

‘And he’s someone I have a strong belief and faith in. And I hope he’s going to be our head coach for many years to come.’

In April, the Post published pictures purportedly showing Vrabel and Russini kissing at a bar in Manhattan in March of 2020. Russini married Shake Shack executive Kevin Goldschmidt in September of that year and has since given birth to the couple’s two sons.

The Daily Mail also published photos of Vrabel and a pregnant Russini renting a boat on a Tennessee lake in 2021, when he was coaching the Titans and she was reporting on the team for ESPN.

Speaking before the first round of April’s NFL Draft, Vrabel stopped short of confessing to an affair. However, he did admit to causing ‘a distraction to the people that I care most about, my family, this football team, the organization and our fans.’

He would ultimately miss the third day of the draft to attend a family counseling session.

Effective Nightly Stretches for Seniors: Loosen Your Body Better Than a Massage

0

A seasoned trainer for nearly four decades shares four effective bedtime stretches that can surpass a massage in bringing relief after the age of 60.

>

For many individuals over 60, nightly stiffness can plague mornings with discomfort. Massages provide momentary respite, but their effects are fleeting. As a personal trainer with nearly 40 years of experience and two decades as the director and co-founder of TRAINFITNESS, the UK’s premier provider of personal training courses, I have found that incorporating four simple stretches into your nightly routine offers a sustained release from tension, far outlasting what monthly massages alone can achieve.

6 Home Exercises That Strengthen Your Core Faster Than Sit-Ups After 60

Where Stiffness Really Hides

There are three common issues experienced by clients over 60: tightness in the lower back, which is often due to strained hip flexors; stiffness in the hips and buttocks, particularly in the deep piriformis muscle behind the hip; and rounded shoulders and upper back, a condition frequently resulting from years spent working at desks, driving, and craning over phones and books.

The lower back one is the most misunderstood. Most people think the back muscles are what’s tight, when actually the muscles that need lengthening sit at the front of the hip. Stretch those and the lower back releases as a result. Stretch the lower back directly and you often make things worse.

The hip and glute area is where the deepest tension sits, because these are the muscles that spend all day being sat on. They compress against a chair, forget how to lengthen, and end up tight and grumpy by the evening. This is where a lot of walking discomfort actually comes from.

The upper body issue is chronic in this age group. The chest muscles have shortened, the upper back has weakened, and the shoulders have crept forward. This creates a background tension around the neck and shoulders that most people carry all day without realizing it’s there. Only when you release it do you notice how heavy it was.

Why Stretching Beats a Massage

A massage does something very effective for one hour. The therapist gets into the tissues, breaks up adhesions, and the body feels loose walking out of the door. But by the next morning, most of the release has faded. The muscles have gone back to the shape they hold every day, because a single session doesn’t change the daily habit that made them tight.

Nightly stretching works differently. Small doses of length applied consistently each night teach the muscles to hold a longer position over time. Muscles are living tissue that adapt to what they’re asked to do most often. Ask them to lengthen for a few minutes every night and they gradually stay that way.

There’s also the sleep advantage. Stretching in bed drops the body into a parasympathetic state, the branch of the nervous system that runs recovery and rest. This means you sleep better, recover better overnight, and wake with less residual tension the next day. A massage only touches the muscle. Nightly stretching also changes what the nervous system does with those muscles for the next 8 hours.

And there’s the cost. A monthly massage might be 60 pounds, an hour of your time, and a drive across town. Nightly stretching is free, takes 8 minutes, and happens without leaving the bed. The cumulative effect over a year is dramatic.

5 Morning Exercises That Reverse Aging Faster Than Hour-Long Gym Workouts After 55

Knees-to-Chest Hug

This releases the lower back and stretches the deep muscles of the buttock, which are the two areas that hold the most tension in over 60s. Doing it lying down means gravity does most of the work, so the body can relax into the position rather than fighting it.

How to Do It:

  • Lie on your back in bed with legs straight
  • Bend one knee and gently bring it towards your chest
  • Wrap both hands around the knee or the shin and pull it slightly closer
  • Hold for 30 seconds, breathing slowly
  • Release and repeat with the other leg
  • Then bring both knees to the chest together and hold for another 30 seconds

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t pull the knee hard or force the range. This is a hold-and-soften stretch, not a pull-and-stretch stretch. Gentle pressure for 30 seconds does more than aggressive pulling for 10.

Reclining Figure-4

This targets the piriformis and other deep hip muscles, which are the biggest source of hidden tension in this age group. It’s the stretch that eases the ache people often get on the outside of the hip after a long day.

How to Do It:

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the bed
  • Cross the right ankle over the left thigh, just above the knee
  • Reach the right hand through the gap between the legs and the left hand around the outside of the left thigh
  • Clasp your hands behind the left thigh and gently pull the left leg towards your chest
  • You should feel a stretch in the outside of the right hip and buttock
  • Hold for 30 seconds
  • Swap sides

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t lift your head off the bed to try to reach the leg. Keep your head resting on the pillow and let your hands come to whatever grip is comfortable. If you can’t reach the thigh, use a towel looped around it as an extension of your arms.

4 Standing Exercises That Trim Apron Belly Faster Than Gym Classes After 60

Supine Spinal Twist

This releases the whole length of the spine, from the neck down to the tailbone, and gives the lower back the rotation it rarely gets in daily life. The twist also gently compresses and releases the muscles alongside the spine, which is one of the most satisfying sensations at the end of the day.

How to Do It:

  • Lie on your back with arms out to the sides at shoulder height, palms up
  • Bend the knees and bring them towards the chest
  • Slowly lower both knees together to the right side, keeping the shoulders flat on the bed
  • Turn the head to look towards the left hand if that’s comfortable
  • Hold for 30 seconds, breathing slowly
  • Bring the knees back to center and lower to the left side
  • Hold for 30 seconds

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t lift the opposite shoulder off the bed as your knees drop. The value of the twist comes from keeping both shoulders down. If a shoulder wants to lift, let your knees stay higher instead of forcing them lower.

Towel Chest Opener

This opens the chest and the front of the shoulders, which have been shortened by decades of sitting and looking forwards. It’s the stretch that lifts the tension out of the neck and upper back before sleep, which improves both the depth of sleep and the way you feel on waking.

How to Do It:

  • Sit on the edge of the bed
  • Roll a large towel or a pillow lengthways
  • Lie back so the towel or pillow runs down the length of your spine, from the base of the skull to the tailbone
  • Let both arms fall out to the sides at shoulder height, palms up
  • Let the shoulders and chest gently open under gravity
  • Hold for 2 to 3 minutes, breathing slowly

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t use a towel or pillow so thick that it forces your chest open too aggressively. Start with something modest, about the thickness of a rolled hand towel, and progress to a firmer prop over weeks. If you feel any pinching or discomfort in the shoulders, reduce the height.

5 Chair Exercises That Restore Thigh Muscle Faster Than Gym Sessions After 60

How Often to Stretch

Do the sequence in the order above, once a night, ideally after you’re already in bed and about to switch the light off. The whole thing takes 8 to 10 minutes.

Seven nights a week is the target. This isn’t a workout that needs recovery days. It’s more like brushing your teeth for the muscles, and consistency is what makes it work. Missing one night doesn’t matter. Missing a week starts to undo the progress.

The best signal you’re doing enough is that the stretches feel less intense over time. When a stretch that used to feel deep starts to feel mild, that’s the muscle lengthening. Keep going, and gradually add a small extension to the range each fortnight.

4 Daily Exercises That Restore Grip Strength Faster Than Hand Grippers After 65

What Results to Expect

By the end of the first week, most people notice they’re sleeping better. That’s the parasympathetic effect of the stretches themselves, and it happens before any real change in muscle length.

By 2 to 3 weeks, the morning stiffness that most over 60s wake up with starts to ease. Getting out of bed feels less like a maneuver. The first few steps of the day feel more like the last few, rather than the creaky opening of a rusty joint.

By 4 to 6 weeks, the muscle length has genuinely changed. The lower back sits more comfortably during a long walk. Shoulders sit back rather than rolled forwards. The hips feel less cramped after a car journey. Family members sometimes comment that you look more relaxed.

By 3 months, the change is substantial enough that a massage becomes optional rather than needed. The body has learned to hold a looser resting state, which is what a massage tries to achieve temporarily. Nightly stretching, done consistently, replaces that need for most people over 60.

Julia Roberts Joins Family in Celebrating Niece Emma’s Scenic Idaho Wedding to Cody John

0

Julia Roberts graced the wedding of her niece, Emma Roberts, to Cody John in Idaho this past weekend, capturing the festive spirit with her presence.

The illustrious star of “Pretty Woman” was among the crowd at the celebration held at the stunning Sun Valley estate, owned by John’s family, on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Despite the heat, she looked elegant in a long-sleeve, blue-and-white polka-dot dress, comfortably seated in the second row during the ceremony.

At 58, Julia showcased her signature red locks in a chic bun, completing her look with stylish sunglasses for the sun-drenched event.

Joining her was her husband, Danny Moder, who complemented the occasion with a dapper appearance in a gray suit and a striking burgundy tie.

The “My Best Friend’s Wedding” star and Moder, who wed in 2002, appeared overjoyed while watching the bride and groom tie the knot.

Julia also let loose and stepped out to Emma and John’s rehearsal dinner afterparty on Friday night.

The A-listers went bar hopping in Ketchum along with their bridal party, with exclusive photos obtained by Page Six showing Emma taking a smoke break.

The “We’re the Millers” star donned a semi-sheer dress and carried a tote bag that read “hitched” for the outing.

The group stayed out until around midnight before returning to the Sun Valley Lodge. While Julia was present at the afterparty, she wasn’t photographed.

Emma — the daughter of Julia’s brother, Eric Roberts — notably shares a close relationship with her famous aunt.

The duo, who are often spotted at events together, made a stylish appearance at New York Fashion Week in September.

Over the years, Emma has had a rocky relationship with her famous father, with Eric previously sharing on the “Inside of You” podcast in 2024 that the “toughest time” of his life was the “loss of relationship” with his daughter.

The “Dark Knight” actor, 70, also didn’t walk Emma down the aisle Saturday. The “American Horror Story” actress was instead escorted by her 5-year-old son, Rhodes, whom she shares with ex Garrett Hedlund.

Emma seemingly has a good relationship with her mom, Kelly Cunningham, as the matriarch attended her dress fittings.

Tragic 911 Call Captures Influencer’s Last Words Before Fatal Shooting by Husband

0

Tragically, a chilling 911 call recorded the heart-wrenching screams and cries of an influencer moments before she and her estranged husband were discovered dead by police, as highlighted in a recent report.

Authorities revealed that Sara Gilson, age 43, faced a tragic end at the hands of her husband, 47-year-old Jeremiah ‘Shawn’ Duffey. He forcefully entered her residence in Owasso, Oklahoma, on Thursday, and fatally shot her.

This devastating murder-suicide happened just days after Gilson had participated in the viral ‘Netflix documentary’ social media trend. In this trend, users pretend to partake in candid interview-style videos, discussing both serious and light-hearted topics.

In her own impactful post, Gilson boldly called out Duffey, stating: ‘Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile.’ Accompanying her post, the mother of two included a telling caption: ‘I wish I was joking.’

Just after 11:15pm on the fateful night, Gilson’s minor son reached out to a 911 dispatcher, reporting the horrifying news, ‘his stepfather had shot his mother,’ according to a report from KTUL.

As he said that, the dispatcher said they heard a woman screaming and weeping. They also recounted hearing a gunshot during the phone call, the outlet stated.

Gilson had recently filed a protective order against Duffey and was in court last month explaining to a judge why she wanted it to remain, according to court documents reviewed by The Oklahoman.

An unidentified woman named Duffey in a separate order on the same day, alleging that he was caught kissing and touching her 15-year-old daughter, who is also a player on the youth basketball team he coaches, per the report.

Sara Gilson, 43, was fatally shot by her husband, Jeremiah 'Shawn' Duffey, 47, after he broke into her home in Owasso, Oklahoma on Thursday, the police said

The minor’s mother stated that Duffey was spotted in the act by another coach while he was alone with her child, the protective order stated.

The teenage girl also told her mother that Duffey had been sending her inappropriate messages and that he also invited her to his hotel room during a tournament trip, where he offered to give her money ‘to keep her quiet,’ the report said.

The girl’s mother also reported the alleged actions to the Owasso Police Department, according to the outlet. It is unclear if he was the subject of an investigation before his death.

Duffey was never arrested for the alleged incident or charged with any crime.

Gilson’s protective order also mentioned those allegations against her estranged partner, and that he ‘proceeded to threaten suicide and went on the run’ while armed with a firearm, the report detailed.

According to the outlet, Gilson filed for two protective orders against Duffey in 2021, but they were dismissed after she failed to appear at a hearing.

In Gilson’s most recent protective order, a judge ordered Duffey out of their home and ordered him to stay at least 100 yards away from her, according to People.

The protective order was then extended on June 23, through August 24.

After Gilson shared her pointed TikTok exposing her husband’s alleged crimes, she posted two more videos to her page alluding to her ordeal before she was killed.

In one video, she showed herself with a friend on a boat, captioned: ‘Everyone talks about romantic love, but no one talks about how female friendships literally save your life.’

She then shared another video of herself on a yacht, captioned: ‘May whatever the f*** that was never find me again.’

Days after that final post, Duffey broke into Gilson’s home and shot her dead before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Duffey’s own TikTok account also included crude clips about his personal life, including one of him coughing with the caption: ‘Ur sick if you like to pull hair and bite.’

In another video, he used the caption: ‘Apparently every girl’s ex was toxic, controlling, and manipulative.’

A GoFundMe page has since been set up for Gilson’s two children, where her loved ones described her sudden death as ‘unimaginable’.

‘Her sudden and heartbreaking loss has left an entire community grieving, but the greatest loss is felt by her two precious children, who must now face life without their loving mother,’ the fundraiser read.

‘Her children were the center of her world, and everything she did was for them. She loved them fiercely, worked hard to provide for them, and dreamed of giving them the best life possible.’

As of Sunday afternoon, nearly $27,000 had been raised for the grieving family.
