Wrexham target Premier League goalkeeper

Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has emerged as a target for ambitious Championship side Wrexham.

Club to club talks are underway over a possible deal but there are other teams showing an interest in the 26-year-old.

Tigers on the prowl in transfer market

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed interest in Croatia internationals Marco Pasalic of Orlando City and HNK Rijeka’s Toni Fruk, plus Hajduk Split’s Rokas Pukštas, a USA Under-23 international.

The three are on an extensive list of targets being worked on by the Premier League new boys who expect to confirm Okan Ozkan as their new sporting director over the next 48 hours.

The Tigers have been in talks with Ozkan, who had been working at Polish club Pogon Szczecin. But the Polish club’s Canadian owner Alex Haditaghi sparked a social media spat with his Hull counterpart Acun Ilicali.

Haditaghi threatened legal action over Hull’s approach for Ozkan, in a succession of messages, whilst copying in the Football Association and Premier League.

Hull still expect to sign Oscar Zambrano from sister club Maribor, and are agreeing a £3m deal to sign Mjallby’s Swedish World Cup left-back Elliot Stroud.

Liverpool also admire Barcola. He is one of a number of wide attackers being assessed by the club but they are yet to make a formal enquiry.

Arsenal are awaiting Leandro Trossard’s decision over his proposed move to Besiktas.

The Gunners have a deal lined up for Christos Tzolis from Bruges which they may accelerate when Trossard leaves.

Another player that is on Arsenal’s radar but lower down their list is Norway’s Antonio Nusa.

The RB Leipzig winger had a decent World Cup on the back of making 35 appearances in the Bundesliga last season but there have been concerns about his knee condition since a move from Bruges to Brentford collapsed on medical grounds in 2024. A specialist later cleared him to play and he joined Leipzig.

Meanwhile, midfielder Christian Norgaard is attracting interest from Saudi club Al Jazira.

Dobbin closes on Southampton move

Aston Villa forward Lewis Dobbin is closing on a £9million move to Southampton.

The 23-year-old scored 10 goals on loan at Preston last season and was also wanted by Wolves, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United. Villa will receive further add-ons based on performances and appearances.

Family Heroically Thwarts Alleged Child Abduction Amidst Delayed Police Response Due to Staffing Shortage

0

Over the weekend, the Portland police faced a troubling delay, taking 30 to 40 minutes to respond to a reported attempted kidnapping of a seven-year-old tourist at a downtown waterfront park. This delay, as stated by the force, stems from a staffing shortage, with recent police statistics indicating that the city generally has around 59 officers patrolling at any time.

In an effort to shed light on how limited resources impact police response times to emergencies, the Portland Police Bureau has unveiled new data on staffing and response schedules. The aim is to provide a clearer understanding of how these limitations affect service across the city.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, police dispatchers received calls about a naked man causing disturbances at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, including a report that he tried to assault someone. At the time, officers were busy with other priority calls, unavailable to immediately respond to the scene.

Just 12 minutes after the initial disturbance call, another person dialed 911, reporting that the same suspect had tried to drag a seven-year-old girl away from her mother.

Officers ultimately arrested 31-year-old Daniel Vasey after finding him swimming in the nearby Willamette River. He faces charges including attempted kidnapping in the first and second degree, first-degree custodial interference, third-degree assault and harassment.

Investigators said Vasey grabbed the girl’s arm while her mother held onto the other arm, lifting the child off the ground during the struggle. The girl’s father and several bystanders intervened, punching, slapping and pulling Vasey away before one witness used pepper spray to stop him, according to police.

The family, police said, was visiting Portland from out of state.

Officers did not reach the scene for an estimated 30 to 40 minutes after the initial 911 calls because they were tied up responding to a barricaded suspect in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood, according to FOX 12 Oregon. During a news conference this week, Deputy Chief Brian Hughes said major incidents can quickly consume available patrol resources.

“We don’t have the appropriate amount of police officers to handle the amount of demand for police services,” Hughes told reporters.

Police said officers responding to a barricaded suspect in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood were unavailable when roughly a dozen 911 calls began coming in about the naked man at Waterfront Park.

Sgt. Matt Jacobson, of the bureau’s Major Crimes Division, said incidents like the barricaded suspect can quickly consume available resources.

“They’re resource intensive. And so when you have a draw like that, it really puts a drain on the entire city, not just that precinct,” Jacobson told reporters.

Hughes said the bureau was operating with 41 patrol officers across Portland that night, along with 10 officers working overtime, a roughly 24% reduction from planned staffing. He said there are no reserve patrol officers who can be called in immediately when multiple major incidents unfold at once.

“Unless it’s an on-call group of officers like the SWAT team or the traffic team, there’s no additional officers that I can just bring in at a moment’s notice,” Hughes said.

According to the bureau’s newly released staffing dashboard, Portland has 809 sworn members, including 572 officers. The bureau says 328 patrol officers are assigned to answer 911 calls across the city’s three precincts.

Because patrol officers work rotating schedules, attend court, take leave, complete mandatory training and handle ongoing calls, the bureau estimates about 59 patrol officers are typically working on Portland streets at any given time.

The bureau says officers were dispatched to approximately 221,000 calls for service in 2025, about 605 calls per day, or one every 2.4 minutes.

Officials also released new response-time data showing that delays are driven primarily by calls waiting for an available officer rather than travel time.

According to the bureau, high-priority calls average 19.5 minutes from dispatch to arrival, including about 10.9 minutes waiting for an available officer. Medium-priority calls average 46.7 minutes, while low-priority calls average nearly 95 minutes.

Hughes said officers are often forced to triage calls because there are not enough available patrol units to respond immediately.

“It’s just triaging calls as they come in on the street, as opposed to having enough officers to handle each call as they came in,” Hughes said.

The staffing dashboard also shows the bureau has 68 sworn vacancies. Police estimate Portland has about 1.26 sworn officers per 1,000 residents, compared with what the bureau says is a national average of approximately 2.4 officers per 1,000 residents.

News Media reached out to the Portland Police Bureau seeking additional information about its staffing shortages and response times.

Judge Orders Alex Murdaugh Podcaster Mandy Matney to Pay $176K Penalty

0

In a recent ruling from South Carolina, Alex Murdaugh’s journalist and podcast creator, Mandy Matney, has been sanctioned by a judge for civil contempt. Judge R. Keith Kelly decreed that Matney must cover $171,500 in legal fees and associated costs, alongside a $5,000 penalty. This decision came after the court determined Matney intentionally defied a subpoena linked to legal proceedings involving the infamous Murdaugh family.

A comprehensive 22-page decision was filed on Monday, wherein Circuit Judge Kelly highlighted Matney’s willful neglect of a legitimate subpoena. The court’s prior order had mandated her presence for a deposition. Matney had argued that her refusal was motivated by safety concerns, a justification that the judge found unconvincing.

This contempt ruling is associated with a protracted series of legal battles that emerged following the 2019 boat accident, a tragic incident that claimed the life of Mallory Beach.

Among those accused in the lawsuit are Parker’s convenience stores. They allegedly provided alcohol to an underage Paul Murdaugh prior to the devastating crash. Matney had been called as a non-party witness in connection to this case.

Mallory Beach, just 19 years old, lost her life in a boating accident that occurred in February 2019 in Beaufort County, a tragedy that continues to ripple through the legal system.

Paul Murdaugh was later charged with boating under the influence, but those charges were dismissed after he and his mother, Maggie Murdaugh, were fatally shot at the family’s Colleton County hunting estate in June 2021.

The Beach family’s civil lawsuit against members of the Murdaugh family and Parker’s alleges the convenience store chain illegally sold alcohol to the underage Paul Murdaugh before the crash.

The litigation ultimately helped expose Alex Murdaugh’s finances as investigators uncovered the disgraced attorney’s financial crimes.

Kelly wrote that Matney refused to appear at the Bluffton deposition site on March 27 despite acknowledging she understood the court had denied her efforts to quash the subpoena and ordered the deposition to proceed. Instead, she remained at another law office in Bluffton while Parker’s attorneys waited at the noticed location.

The order notes Matney appeared by Zoom from another law office in Bluffton.

“Based upon the foregoing, there is clear and convincing evidence that Ms. Matney’s failure to appear was not the result of confusion, mistake, or inability, but rather was a deliberate decision to disregard the subpoena and the Court’s March 16, 2026 Order requiring that she be deposed within 14 days,” Kelly wrote.

Kelly also found Matney’s explanation that she feared for her safety was not credible, writing there was “no persuasive evidence” supporting her allegations that Parker’s attorneys were trying to harass her or place her in danger.

Kelly pointed to Matney’s social media posts after the aborted deposition, including photos showing her eating lemon pound cake with attorney Mark Tinsley and later dining in Savannah.

The judge wrote the posts “evidence her intent to defy her obligation to appear at the noticed deposition location.”

Parker’s attorneys originally sought more than $310,000 in fees and costs, but Kelly reduced the award by nearly 45%, ordering Matney to pay $171,500, plus a $5,000 fine.

The court awarded $39,900 to Bannister, Wyatt and Stalvey, LLC; $45,950 to Deborah B. Barbier, LLC; and $85,650 to Maynard Nexsen, PC.

Matney criticized the ruling on Monday in a Facebook post.

“I’m not angry that Judge R Keith Kelly found me in contempt of court. I’m angry that he’s ordering me to pay an unprecedented amount of legal fees ($171,000 + $5,000 in fines),” she wrote.

“The South Carolina Justice system is exactly what I’ve been saying all along — CORRUPT,” she added. “And this is my punishment for calling it like it is.”

Kelly wrote there was “no persuasive evidence” supporting Matney’s repeated allegations that Parker’s attorneys were using the deposition process to harass or bully her.

He also concluded the contempt proceedings resulted from Matney’s own conduct, writing that had she appeared for her deposition or accepted one of several alternate locations offered, “she would not be before the Court on a contempt motion.”

Ann Widdecombe’s Heartfelt Career Decision: A Final Message Unveiled

Reform UK Holds Regional Conference In Cornwall

In what sadly turned out to be her final column for Best Magazine, Ann Widdecombe revealed poignant details that now carry a greater weight. The 78-year-old was tragically found dead in her Haytor, Dartmoor, Devon home on Thursday. Counter Terrorism Policing Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor described the shocking event as a “targeted attack” on the former politician.

Authorities have taken a 28-year-old individual into custody, initially suspected of murdering the ex-Daily Express columnist. The individual has since been re-detained on allegations related to terrorism activities involving commission, preparation, or instigation of such acts.

After concluding her 23-year-long career in Parliament following the 2010 general election, Ann Widdecombe transitioned into a new role as a Reform spokesperson, engaging fans by delving into the entertainment industry.

In the same year of her retirement, she captured public attention by participating in Strictly Come Dancing with partner Anton Du Beke, and later showcased her versatility by making her pantomime debut in 2011.

Ann’s first stint on the panto stage saw her star as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford alongside Craig Revel Horwood. She returned to the show in 2018, following her stint on Celebrity Big Brother.

In her final column for Best Magazine before her death, Ann shared the heartfelt reason why she enjoyed pantomime so much.

“Whenever people ask me what I most enjoyed about doing pantomime I reply that, for four or five weeks, all I heard was the sound of children laughing,” she wrote.

“Kids laugh at anything and it is one of the best sounds in the world.

“When I lived near Fulham football ground, I grumbled mightily at the traffic but out in the garden I used to grin as we would hear the build-up to a goal and then either a roar of delight or a huge groan. Football is fine as long as I don’t have to watch,” she added.

Ann previously joked that she got a taste of panto through her stint on Strictly Come Dancing. Speaking to us, she said: “I thought it would go one of two ways, either I’d get voted out the first week because I’m terrible or I would be kept in for a laugh. We are the pantomime act but we give good panto, I hope.”

The former politician went on to say she “never expected” the public to be so warm towards her.

“They actually seem to like us. Of course they want to see what Anton and I can dream up next but it’s not cruel, it’s affectionate,” she added.

“Mind you people come up and ask for my autograph and then look over my shoulder and see Anton and completely forget about me.”

Anton is among the many people who have paid tribute to Ann following her death. In an emotional video shared on Instagram, he told fans he had “the most brilliant time” with her on Strictly.

“She became a real friend. She was fun, she was upbeat, she was positive, she was supportive, she was game – she wanted to enter into the spirit of the whole thing and we had an incredible time together,” he added.

“On behalf of myself and the whole @bbcstrictly family, we are devastated by the news and our thoughts go out to her nearest and dearest and her whole family.”

2030 FIFA World Cup: Discover the Historic 6-Nation Hosts for the Centennial Games

0

The 2030 FIFA World Cup promises a distinct experience, with Morocco, Portugal, and Spain teaming up as hosts. In addition, to pay tribute to the tournament’s roots, special matches will take place in South America.

INDIANAPOLIS — Celebrating a milestone, the 2030 FIFA World Cup will unfold across not one, not two, but three nations in an unprecedented format.

While Morocco, Portugal, and Spain will primarily host the event, the tournament’s more than 100 exhilarating games won’t all take place solely within their borders.

To honor the World Cup’s storied beginnings—which started in South America—three important matches will be staged across Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. The historic centenary match will be held in Uruguay, aligning with celebrations that acknowledge Uruguay’s unique position as both host and victor of the inaugural 1930 World Cup.

Due to the format, extra days will be built into the schedule to allow teams to travel, rest, adapt to different time zones and prepare for their next match.

The three matches played in South America will take place before the official opening of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA shared the following proposed schedule:

  • Saturday-Sunday, June 8-9, 2030: Centenary celebration ceremony and first matches of Uruguay in Montevideo, Argentina at home and Paraguay at home.

  • Thursday-Friday, June 13-14, 2030: Opening ceremony and opening game(s) of the FIFA World Cup 2030.

  • Saturday-Sunday, June 15-16, 2030: First matches of the other teams of the groups of Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

  • Friday-Saturday, June 21-22, 2030: Second matches of all teams of the groups of Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

  • Sunday, July 21, 2030: Final of the FIFA World Cup 2030

While current plans for 2030 include 48 teams, South American soccer officials are pushing for an expanded 64-team tournament. Other confederations are pushing back against an expansion, citing scheduling and infrastructure issues.

Jennifer Lopez’s Mansion Sale Falls Through as Buyer Withdraws

0

Jennifer Lopez recently faced a setback when the sale of her Los Angeles mansion, once shared with Ben Affleck, fell through at the last minute.

The couple, Lopez at 56 and Affleck at 53, initially listed the property for sale in June 2024. This move came just two months ahead of her filing for divorce coinciding with their second wedding anniversary.

Despite their efforts, they were unable to attract a buyer, leading Affleck to completely relinquish his stake in the residence by April, passing his interest solely to Lopez.

According to insiders, Lopez had secured a buyer who provided a significant deposit, but unexpectedly backed out of the agreement this Tuesday, as reported by TMZ.

This extensive estate, nestled in Beverly Crest on the Westside of Los Angeles, spans 46,000 square feet and includes 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms, epitomizing luxury living.

The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Lopez for comment.

Online listings are no longer available for the impressive 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom estate, leaving fans to wonder what Lopez and Affleck’s next move might be

Affleck and Lopez bought the house in May 2023 for an eyewatering $60,850,000, after tying the knot in August 2022 in the throes of their reignited romance, which they first conducted in the face of a fan frenzy in the early 2000s.

By June 2024, when they began trying to sell, Affleck and Lopez were in the midst of a swirl of rumors that their marriage was skidding towards implosion.

That August, the month of the divorce filing, Affleck purchased a $20 million bachelor pad in the Pacific Palisades and promptly decamped there.

The house happened to be blocks from the residence of his first ex-wife Jennifer Garner, with whom he co-parents his children Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14.

Meanwhile, after her divorce from Affleck was finalized in February 2025, Lopez bought a $21 million property in the Kardashian enclave of Calabasas.

However she not only reportedly kept living in the Beverly Crest mansion she had shared with Affleck, but also subjected it to an extensive remodel.

‘Jennifer is renovating the home to her satisfaction,’ a source exclusively informed the Daily Mail last year. ‘She is spending a lot of money because it’s big: there is the main house, the pool house and a guest house.’

When Lopez and Affleck first listed their property amid the disintegration of their marriage, they set a staggering asking price of $68 million.

There followed a failed escrow, and then months in which they were unable to secure another buyer, whereupon they took the house off the market last July.

Although they put the house back up for sale that September, this time brutally marked down to $52 million, they delisted it once again in January.

Then in April, legal documents obtained by the Daily Mail indicated that Affleck had relinquished his share of the property to Lopez.

The filing stated Lopez ‘shall be solely responsible for all expenses [associated] with any future sale of her interest in the Wallingford Residence, including but not limited to broker’s commissions, applicable taxes, closing costs, etc.’

Their updated divorce terms also stipulated that there be a ‘transfer of property’ at some point, though when that would be was left unspecified.

Relentless Rains Flood South Texas as Tornado Strikes San Antonio

0

UVALDE, Texas (AP) — On Wednesday, intense and slow-moving storms unleashed torrents of rain across vast areas of South Texas. In the aftermath, a tornado emerged in San Antonio, trailing the heavy downpours that had previously submerged roads and farmlands, prompting numerous high-water rescues throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado made landfall in the northwestern section of San Antonio, near Interstate 10. Social media platforms buzzed with videos capturing what looked like a compact twister in action. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries from this weather event.

Amid ongoing severe weather warnings, forecasters issued alerts for possible life-threatening flash flooding as the rain showed no signs of letting up, expected to persist until Thursday evening. The weather service projected that total rainfall could reach between 10 and 20 inches (25 to 50 centimeters) in certain locations by the time these storms finally dissipate.

Thankfully, the region has been spared fatalities and injuries from the current deluge.

On Wednesday morning, flash flood warnings were activated for numerous counties adjacent to the Mexican border, including parts of Kerr County. Last year, this area suffered catastrophic flooding along the Guadalupe River, claiming over 100 lives. Kerr County authorities are proactively liaising with summer camps and retreat centers situated along the river, which could be at risk of flooding once more.

The highest rainfall totals so far have been in Uvalde County — up to 16 inches (40 centimeters) in some areas, the weather service said.

“This is called a typical mid-summer tropical weather pattern that happens in Texas,” said Monte Oaks, a meteorologist with the weather service. “About once every five years, we’ll get socked in with a daily recurrence of heavy rain chances that’s generally produced by a stagnant kind of a pattern with a low-pressure center that’s just not moving very fast.”

Oaks said the rain is being fueled with tropical moisture, mostly from the Gulf of Mexico and some from the Pacific Ocean.

The highest level of concern for potentially dangerous flooding Wednesday was for areas west of San Antonio and north of Route 90, he said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued disaster declarations for dozens of counties.

Authorities posted videos on Tuesday showing a rescue crew in a boat navigating flooded streets and a vehicle being swept away by fast-moving waters. Five people were rescued by the Texas Game Warden Search and Rescue Team and four were rescued by a local game warden, said Maggie Berger, a Texas Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman.

The weather service said the city of Uvalde has been hardest hit. Officials there said there had been at least two dozen water rescues, and a local event center was open for anyone displaced by flooding. In Sabinal, officials were also making plans for a shelter.
