DCLM Daily Manna 3 July 2026 — Unravelling A Mystery

DCLM Daily Manna 3 July 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Unravelling A Mystery

TOPIC: Unravelling A Mystery (DCLM Daily Manna 3 July 2026)

KEY VERSE: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words – Ephesians 3:3

TEXT: Ephesians 3:1-7 (KJV)

1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

There are many diseases that doctors know very little or nothing about. They are mysteries. One of such mysterious diseases is “the mysterious epidemic that swept the world from 1917 to 1928. Half a million people were afflicted with a ghastly condition that could be part of the plot line of a horror film. The victims— very much alive and conscious—found themselves in inexplicably frozen states. This sickness first appeared in Europe and quickly spread around the world, reaching epidemic levels in North America, Europe, and India by 1919. About a third of those stricken with the illness, died. Of the survivors, nearly half eventually found themselves unable to interact physically with the world around them, all the while fully aware of their surroundings.

From today’s text, Paul begins to speak of the great ‘mystery’ that was the central calling of his life. But it wasn’t a ‘mystery’ in the sense that people typically think. This is not a ‘mystery’ that any human being can figure out and solve by good detective or guesswork. Rather, a ‘mystery’—as the word is being used in the New Testament — is an aspect of God’s redemptive plan for humanity that is known only to Him, revealed in due time by Him to humankind. This is something that is only known by God, but graciously, He allowed it to be revealed to Paul the apostle in due time. “That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel.” This became the nucleolus of Paul’s ministry to the Gentiles.

Consequently, Paul the apostle needed to convince his Jewish brethren that it was God’s will that the gospel message of salvation be taken to the Gentiles and indeed the world. But the Jewish religious hardliners, who were patently engrossed in the doctrine of Jewish exclusive right to salvation, would not understand. His fellow citizens became an albatross to his missionary work in the old Roman Empire and Asia Minor, where he undertook several missionary journeys.

When it comes to delivering a God-revealed mystery to sinful humanity, it can’t be done in human power. Paul was, of course, unique — and he was uniquely suited by God’s providence to minister this mystery in such a pioneering and authoritative way. However, he saw it as a mystery of which he became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to him by the effective working of His power (Ephesians 3:7). God has one mystery that we all should be aware of – that salvation is not only for an exclusive or predetermined set of people. We need to take the same message to everyone in the world because Christ died for the whole world.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The reality of our salvation proves the veracity of divine revelation.

Selena Gomez Showcases Her Beauty Line En Route to Taylor Swift’s Big Day

0

On Thursday, Selena Gomez caught the attention of many while she simultaneously promoted her cosmetics line during her journey to attend best friend Taylor Swift’s wedding rehearsal dinner.

The 33-year-old Gomez mingled with a bevy of other stars at the opulent gathering, celebrating Swift’s upcoming wedding to Travis Kelce.

While heading to the intimate dinner for around 100 guests, she posted a video taken en route to the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden, where the event was hosted.

Nevertheless, Gomez, who is rumored to be part of Swift’s bridal party, made headlines by choosing this significant occasion to spotlight a lipstick from her Rare Beauty line.

The video featured her elegantly applying the lipstick in the back seat of a car, dressed in a stunning black gown. Following this, she uploaded a close-up photo flaunting a new lip product from her collection that is slated for future release.

The move drew some criticism, given her best friend’s wedding has been shrouded in secrecy, and using the ceremony for promotion could risk Swift’s ire.

‘Using other women’s success for relevancy…. stay away from her,’ one fan wrote.

‘Yesss use your best friends wedding to sell makeup,’ another added.

‘Selena applying Rare Beauty lipstick in the car on the way to her bestie’s wedding rehearsal is the most on-brand thing ever,’ someone else quipped.

‘Taylor getting Rare Beauty PR boxes as her wedding gift,’ someone else joked.

Though Gomez did not share a full view of her gown, she happily showed off her picture perfect glam.

The star’s raven tresses were slicked back, and she accessorized with diamond earrings and a matching ring from Fernando Jorge, with the pieces reportedly totaling $40,000.

Gomez’s video was especially notable seeing as sources previously claimed to the Daily Mail that guests – including family and close friends – were required to sign an NDA before receiving any information about the wedding.

For added protection, Swift and Kelce have also individually watermarked each invitation using guests’ first and last names repeatedly across the design, making any leaked invite instantly traceable, revealed TMZ.

Swift and Kelce are set to officially tie the knot at Madison Square Garden in NYC on July 3, with more than 1000 guests in attendance.

Aside from Gomez, their more intimate rehearsal dinner was attended by stars Swift’s collaborator Jack Antonoff, 42, and Adam Sandler, 59, who were spotted heading to the festivities.

Meanwhile Lena Dunham, 40, was filmed being driven to the soiree – ahead of an awkward reunion with her ex Antonoff.

Gigi Hadid, 31, who is rumored to be one of Swift’s bridesmaids headed to the ceremony with boyfriend Bradley Cooper, 51, with the suited actor seen smiling as he headed off in photos obtained by PageSix.

Football stars including George Kittle, Andrew Whitworth and Ross Travis also joined the glittering line-up, alongside sport power couple, Erin Andrews and Jarrett Stoll.

On Tuesday, the Daily Mail definitively confirmed that Swift’s wedding would be taking place in New York City after a key member of her entourage was spotted at the venue.

The rehearsal dinner is said by a source to require ‘cocktail attire,’ and only family members have been invited for the pre-wedding event.

While it’s assumed that members of Swift’s squad – of which Hadid is a member – are likely to constitute her bridal party, few details have so far leaked about which of her friends will play a major part in her and Kelce’s wedding.

Sean “Mitoman” Loughlin Shatters Expectations on ‘American Ninja Warrior’ Exclusive Clip

Sean “Mitoman” Loughlin has demonstrated remarkable dedication in reaching the American Ninja Warrior stage. His journey is a source of inspiration and strength for many.

Hailing from Boonsboro, Maryland, the 15-year-old battles mitochondrial disease, which hinders his body’s cellular energy production. Due to this, he relies on a feeding tube for 20 hours each day, with his training sessions for ANW being the sole times he unplugs from the pump.

“Being able to participate in ninja activities makes my life immensely better,” Loughlin expresses in the video clip.

Despite the restrictions of his condition, Loughlin dedicates himself to training with as much, if not more, determination than other kids his age. “It’s amazing what he accomplishes,” shares his mother Christine. “My pride in him knows no bounds.”

In the clip, we watch as Loughlin takes off his feeding pump, and takes to the course. His family and friends from all across the East Coast watch in support, whether it be in the audience or virtually. At just 5’1 and 94 pounds, he is the lightest contestant of the night.

Loughlin breezes through the Shrinking Steps and new returning obstacle, Rollercoaster, with ease. Loughlin has a small slip at the end of tackling the Domino Effect—which could have spelled disaster—but the ninja handles the minor set back with ease. However, it’s when Loughlin reaches obstacle five, the dreaded Wall to Wall, that he starts to experience trouble when his smaller frame proves to be a disadvantage. Despite struggling to get the wall the lock, Loughlin does not give up. He powers through, eventually making his was to the final obstacle: the Warped Wall.

With only 14.5 feet standing in between Loughlin and the buzzer, the crowd is exuberant. “Beat that wall,” the audience chants as Loughlin takes a second to prepare. On his first attempt he barely touches the top, but that does not deter him. After his second attempt, it’s clear that the task is weighing on Loughlin, but he refuses to give up. With one attempt left, Matt Iseman takes a moment to encourage the crowd to cheer louder. “Let him hear it, folks,” he roars into the microphone and the audience responds accordingly.

As Loughlin takes his final attempt, the crowd falls to a hush just before he reaches the top. Making it over the wall, he hits the buzzer at 3:15.60 and it’s thrilling! The audience jumps to their feet. When asked if he was ever concerned throughout the course, Loughlin says: “No. Never planned on giving up. Always gonna give it my all.”

Tune in tonight to American Ninja Warrior at 9/8c on NBC to see more ninjas share their incredible stories.

Inside the Lakers Drama: How LeBron James and the Russell Westbrook Deal Went Awry

0

LeBron James’ chapter with the Los Angeles Lakers has come to an end. The NBA superstar has notified the team, where he’s spent the last eight seasons, of his decision to sign with a new franchise during free agency.

Despite a public display of mutual respect between both parties following James’ announcement, it’s evident that the relationship between James and the Lakers had its troubles. If everything had been seamless, James might have chosen to conclude his illustrious NBA career in Los Angeles.

Fans and analysts alike are curious about when the rift between James and the Lakers began. On July 2, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that the “disconnect” originated when the Lakers traded Russell Westbrook after a disappointing 2021-22 season, a breach from which their relationship never fully healed.

Back in July 2021, the Lakers acquired Westbrook, in a trade that sent Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft to the Washington Wizards.

James was reportedly influential in bringing Westbrook to Los Angeles. Alongside Anthony Davis, James believed that Westbrook’s addition would transform the Lakers into championship contenders once more, following their early exit from the 2021 NBA playoffs.

But it didn’t happen. Westbrook struggled alongside James and Davis, failing to produce his typical offensive output and committing too many turnovers. Westbrook was subject to a ton of scrutiny because of this, especially after the Lakers finished the 2021-22 season at 33-49 and missed the playoffs.

Westbrook started coming off the bench for LA during the 2022-23 campaign. While this produced better results than him spending most of his time in a lineup with James, the Lakers’ on-court cohesion never came close to what everyone expected when Westbrook came to LA. He was then traded to the Jazz in February 2023.

ESPN’s Baxter Holmes reported in January that Jeanie Buss (the Lakers’ president and controlling owner in 2021) was frustrated that James failed to take accountability for the Westbrook trade not working because the Lakers apparently made the move to appease him.

Now it appears that this frustration was never quite solved, despite James staying in LA until now.

Selena Gomez Reveals Taylor Swift’s Wedding Look as Celebrities Gather at Madison Square Garden

Leading the celebrity brigade to the lavish pre-wedding rehearsal dinner for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were none other than Swift’s close companions Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, and Jack Antonoff.

The beloved duo, both aged 36, are gearing up for a grand wedding ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3, expecting an audience of over 1,000 guests.

A cozier pre-wedding celebration is planned for their dearest 100 friends and family members at the Infosys Theater within MSG, scheduled for Thursday.

Selena Gomez gave fans a sneak peek of her elegant attire, a black feathered ballgown, as she touched up her lipstick in the car, making her way to the event.

In contrast, Jack Antonoff, Swift’s long-term creative partner, looked dapper in a nicely tailored suit, while Adam Sandler, 58, Kelce’s co-star from Happy Gilmore 2, discreetly entered the venue through a side door.

Lena Dunham, 40, was seen in a car heading to MSG – ahead of an awkward reunion with her ex Antonoff.

While it’s assumed that members of Swift’s squad – of which Hadid is a member – are likely to constitute her bridal party, few details have so far leaked about which of her friends will play a major part in her and Kelce’s wedding.

Ahead of the Mirrorball singer’s visit to her runway star friend, other close pals have been spotted congregating on the East Coast.

Her friend and mentee, 26-year-old Sabrina Carpenter, was spotted enjoying a meal at Emmett’s on Grove in the West Village on Tuesday evening.

A video posted to X showed the beaming songstress chatting with friends ahead of the wedding.

Carpenter was Swift’s opening act for 13 concerts on the 2023 Latin American leg of her blockbuster Eras Tour, before rejoining her the following year for a dozen shows split evenly between Australia and Singapore.

Two of Swift’s male pals were also spotted around New York State in recent days.

Her longtime friend and fellow singer–songwriter, Ed Sheeran, 35, was spotted enjoying the company of The National guitarist–turned–superstar record producer Aaron Dessner, 50, while in Upstate New York.

Dessner produced and co-wrote much of Swift’s Folklore and Evermore albums (both 2020), as well as bonus tracks on the deluxe 3am edition of 2022’s Midnights, before returning to work with her on much of The Tortured Poet’s Department (2024).

Sheeran and Dessner, who have previously worked together, were pictured dining at Buona Sera on the Lake in Malta, New York.

The restaurant is only about 60 miles from Dessner’s recording space, Long Pond Studio, where Swift and Sheeran have both worked with him.

In addition to Hadid, other stars believed to be on the guest list include her sister Bella, her boyfriend Bradley Cooper, Swift’s longtime BFF Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Lena Dunham and Zoe Kravitz.

Kelce’s football coach, Andy Reid, has already confirmed he will be attending the couple’s nuptials.

Also expected to attend are Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, and his teammate Patrick Mahomes, who previously revealed that he was responsible for inviting Kelce to the fateful Eras Tour concert at which he tried – unsuccessfully – to give Swift a friendship bracelet that listed his phone number.

Swift and Kelce’s wedding guests have also been left in the dark about the exact ceremony location ahead of the couple’s anticipated nuptials.

A source claimed to Us Weekly last week that lucky guests who scored an invitation to the big day have not yet been informed of the specific location.

‘Taylor and Travis told guests to be in NYC. No other location was provided,’ the insider told the outlet.

Those who received an invite were told to be in NYC on Thursday and Friday with no other information being provided.

Swift and Kelce are ‘putting their guests on hold for a couple days,’ the source said, before claiming that they have spent ‘millions’ on the wedding.

The A-list couple is allegedly planning on hosting a smaller gathering at Madison Square Garden on July 2, followed by a larger affair with roughly 1,000 attendees the next night, per the New York Times .

An insider informed the Daily Mail in early June that Swift and Kelce had embraced the idea of a ‘spectacle’ wedding and selected Madison Square Garden as the venue.

Sources also previously claimed to the Daily Mail that guests who received an invitation are being required to sign an NDA before receiving information about the wedding.

Those who RSVP are then sent a link to the agreement, which requires guests not to disclose information about the wedding.

In August, Kelce proposed to Swift, and she shared photos from the intimate engagement on Instagram with the caption: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’

The Football star had turned his backyard in Kansas City into a secret garden wonderland, which offered a romantic atmosphere.

Mother of Murder Victim Speaks Out in Defense of Son Amid Au Pair Catfishing Scheme

Image courtesy of “Killer Investigations” on A&E.

The mother of Joe Ryan has come forward to defend her son’s legacy after prosecutors claimed he fell victim to a lethal murder scheme, falsely presented as a consensual erotic game.

“Joe believed in consent, and I was aware of his interest in role-playing. He was a genuinely nice person, not just someone with unusual sexual preferences. I knew the allegations were false,” explained Deirdre Fisher.

Fisher’s heartfelt remarks are part of a recent interview that airs in the new episode of A&E’s Killer Investigations. The series delves into the inquiry and conviction of former IRS criminal investigator, Brendan Banfield, who masterminded the deaths of his wife, Christine Banfield, and Ryan with assistance from the family’s au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhaes.

Tune in to the episode titled “Sex, Lies and Murder,” airing Thursday at 10 p.m. on A&E.

The case began on Feb. 24, 2023, when Banfield called 911 claiming he had shot an intruder who was attacking his wife inside their Virginia home.

“My name is Brendan Banfield, I’m a federal agent. This is my house. There’s somebody here. I shot him,” Banfield told the dispatcher.

When Fairfax County police arrived, they found Ryan dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Christine Banfield was critically injured and later died at a hospital.

Juliana Peres Magalhaes, who had been living with the family as their Brazilian au pair, initially told officers she saw a stranger attack Christine before Banfield shot him in defense of his wife.

Magalhaes appeared in a state of shock after witnessing the killing. In a scene recorded on police body cameras, the young woman described to police how she saw the stranger attacking Christine before Brendan took action:

“Brendan said please drop the knife, drop the knife because he had a knife and then he said, drop the gun to Brendan, they were yelling. I couldn’t understand. It was super fast.”

Fairfax County homicide investigators uncovered a trail of digital messages on a sexual fetish website between Joe Ryan and someone named “Anastasia9”, who appeared to be Christine Banfield. The messages discussed acting out a violent rape fantasy in the Banfield bedroom.

Christine’s friends and family were shocked by what police said they found, saying it was out of character for the highly respected nurse and mother. Joe Ryan’s mother, Deirdre Fisher, said she was aware of her son’s interest in sexual role play but knew he believed strongly in consent and would never harm another person.

Detectives discovered social media photos of Brendan and Juliana sitting intimately together in a bathtub, leading them to believe the pair were having an affair. Investigators learned that after Christine’s death Juliana had moved into the master bedroom, hanging her clothes in Christine’s closet.

Investigators believed Brendan and Juliana had set up an elaborate catfishing scheme, posing as Christine, in order to lure the unsuspecting Joe Ryan into their twisted murder plot. They wanted to kill Christine and frame Joe Ryan for her death. Both were eventually arrested and charged with the murders.

At first, Juliana refused to testify against Brendan, but agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter, facing 10 years. As she became the Commonwealth’s star witness, she recounts how Brendan urged her to help kill his wife.

“You want to divorce her?” Juliana said she asked Brendan.

“I don’t want to share my custody,” she said he responded. “It’ll be easier if she was not in the picture.”

Banfield took the stand at his own murder trial, refuting Juliana’s version of events.

“I think that it’s an absurd line of questioning for something that is not serious, that were—that a plan was made to get rid of my wife. That is absolutely crazy.”

Brendan Banfield was found guilty and sentenced to life for the killing of Christine Banfield and Joe Ryan. Danielle Hawker, sister of Christine spoke at the sentencing.

“I will forever carry both the grief of losing her too soon and the gratitude of having loved her for 37 years and being loved by, in return.”

Deirdre Fisher, Joe Ryan’s mom, spoke at both Juliana Peres Magalhaes’ and Brendan Banfield’s sentencing; she spoke at length what his legacy will be.

“I believe it’s good for him to live the rest of his life thinking about the crime that he committed. And his legacy will just be prison and that he was a bad murderer.”

The A&E series “Killer Investigations” examines major homicide cases across the country. Senior producers for this episode are Beth Carey, Jennifer Tintner and Diane Kaye. Written by Brian Ross. Executive producers for Law&Crime Productions are Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz. Executive producers for A&E are Brad Abramson, Michael Frontain-Bryant and Elaine Frontain-Bryant.

FBI and Cybersecurity Experts Warn Fans of Rising FIFA World Cup Scams

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — Enthusiastic fans eager to purchase World Cup tickets or merchandise are being cautioned against scams as fraudsters are exploiting the tournament’s widespread appeal.

ABC7 I-Team has delved into incidents where scammers target consumers seeking tickets, jerseys, and other World Cup-related items on the internet. A security organization has reported a significant 320% surge in harmful websites associated with the event.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

From hats and jerseys to coveted match tickets, the World Cup frenzy has become a playground for scammers. Alarmingly, one cybersecurity group has noticed a dramatic 320 percent rise in suspicious sites.

Nati Tal, the head of research at Guardio, pointed out that the heightened excitement around the tournament provides ample opportunities for deceitful practices.

“As the matches unfold, this is when everyone wants to buy soccer shirts,” Tal remarked.

Tal said Guardio’s cybersecurity team recently found several online shops based in China selling World Cup shirts and jerseys. Security experts warn that consumers may never receive the products they order or could receive fake items weeks later.

“Everybody is looking for those events and searching for information and scammers like they always do they have a chance to find more victims using names and brands,” Tal said.

The FBI has also issued a warning. In May, the agency said it identified more than three dozen domains spoofing the legitimate FIFA website and expects more fraudulent domains to appear.

The FBI and Guardio recommend purchasing official, FIFA-licensed merchandise and obtaining World Cup tickets through FIFA’s official website. Consumers who buy tickets through third-party sellers should use a verified, trusted source and avoid online classifieds unless they thoroughly vet the seller and meet in person. They also recommend requesting a photo of the seller’s driver’s license.

When asked how consumers can verify they are purchasing legitimate tickets and merchandise, Tal stressed the importance of checking a website’s address.

“Always look for the official website. look for FIFA make sure on the address bar you see the official domain name,” Tal said.

Tal also advised consumers to avoid sponsored search results that could lead to fraudulent websites and to be cautious when clicking links on social media.

“make sure you don’t click fast on something that looks great …looks official,” Tal said.

Consumers shopping online should also look for a trusted payment gateway, which is a standard method many merchants use to process payments. Guardio says shoppers should avoid entering payment information directly into a vendor’s website.

Repeat Offender Facing Burglary Charges Following Alleged Shoplifting at Publix

Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a recent incident, 36-year-old Joshuia Bernard Jenkins has been charged with burglary, theft, and property damage. Jenkins reportedly took items from a Publix store from which he had previously been banned. Additionally, he is accused of damaging a patrol vehicle by kicking it, resulting in $250 worth of damage.

The events unfolded on the morning of July 1, around 7:23 a.m. A Publix employee spotted Jenkins holding a store shopping bag filled with assorted electronic items, which were later valued at $89.48. Noticing Jenkins bypassing the checkout lanes without making a payment, the employee informed him, “You have to pay for that.”

Jenkins reportedly ignored the employee’s request and exited the store. The employee, familiar with Jenkins due to previous encounters, relayed this information to a Gainesville Police Department officer. The officer noted that Jenkins had been previously warned that reentry to the property would lead to his arrest.

The situation escalated when an officer later located Jenkins walking along NW 6th Avenue near NW 13th Street. While attempting to detain Jenkins, he allegedly kicked the officer’s patrol car, inflicting approximately $250 in damages. At the time of apprehension, Jenkins was still in possession of the Publix bag containing the electronics and matched the description in the store’s surveillance footage.

Jenkins reportedly asked, “Why do you have to take me to jail for something so petty?… It was only like 50-something dollars.”

Post Miranda, Jenkins reportedly did not want to answer any questions.

Jenkins has been charged with burglary of an occupied structure, felony petit theft with previous theft convictions, and felony property damage. He has 10 felony convictions (two violent) and 24 misdemeanor convictions (five violent) and has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2021; he was arrested in April for indecent exposure, but the charge was reduced to disturbing the peace, and Jenkins served 40 days in jail after entering a plea of nolo contendere to the charge.

Judge Joy Danne set bail at $17,500.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Amid Rising Tensions: Ukraine and Russia Commit to Intensifying Conflict Following Deadly Kyiv Strikes

0

In a grim turn in the ongoing conflict, both Ukraine and Russia committed to intensified operations on Friday, as Moscow unleashed a massive assault on Kyiv. This devastating attack claimed at least 25 lives, damaged apartment buildings, and forced tens of thousands of residents to seek refuge in shelters.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, surveying the aftermath at a partially destroyed apartment block, assured that his forces would “definitely” retaliate for the overnight pummelling.

Meanwhile, the European Union’s top diplomat put forward a proposal for new sanctions against Moscow. At the same time, President Zelenskyy sought to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities by urging the United States to grant licences for the production of Patriot air-defence missiles.

Condemnation of the Russian offensive came swiftly from the United Nations, with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres renewing the call for a ceasefire.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN chief, strongly criticized the attacks, declaring, “Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure wherever they occur are a clear violation of international humanitarian law and must stop immediately.”

But Russia vowed to further ramp up “pressure” on Ukraine, sticking to its no-compromise rhetoric.

‘Most massive attack’

Russia has routinely launched waves of missiles and drones during its invasion, Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War Two.

Journalists from the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency in central and eastern Kyiv heard more than a dozen explosions and saw residents rushing to shelter in metro stations.

In the morning, locals stood on the rubble of destroyed apartment blocks ripped apart by the barrage, as smoke poured over the Kyiv skyline.

Blasts started echoing out late on Wednesday local time, lasting into the early hours of Thursday as Russian missiles and drones rained down on residential areas in the city centre.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko described it as the “enemy’s most massive attack on the capital”.

The state emergency services said at least 25 people had been killed and others were missing.

The Ukrainian branch of the Red Cross said its key warehouse had been destroyed and around US$2m (AU$2.8m) worth of humanitarian aid lost.

Debris also damaged a building “hosting a number of diplomats”, EU spokeswoman Anitta Hipper told AFP, adding that the EU diplomats were safe.

Kyiv urged its allies to send more air defence.

“We also very much count on a decision by the United States regarding licences for Patriots,” Zelenskyy said in a post on Facebook.

Later, after talks with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, he added: “Defending against ballistic missiles is impossible without a sufficient number of missiles for Patriot systems.”

Ukraine wants to manufacture munitions for the US-made missile interceptor system, but defence experts say it would take time to set up production domestically.

A US official told AFP President Donald Trump wanted a peace deal to end the “senseless killing” in Ukraine.

Struggling to sleep

Russia fired 496 drones and 74 missiles, including hard-to-intercept ballistic projectiles, Ukraine’s air force said.

It said it shot down 48 of the missiles and 476 drones.

AFP reporters met several Kyiv residents outside an apartment building largely destroyed in the attack.

“Half the building has been destroyed. The roof is gone,” said 32-year-old factory worker Sabina Mambetova, standing outside the rubble of her home in the eastern Darnytskyi district.

“I’ve been left without an apartment, alone with my child. I don’t know what to do now.”

Some 52,000 people, including 4,500 children, packed into underground stations to shelter from the barrage — the highest number in recent years, according to the Kyiv metro.

Others hunkered down in basements or corridors through the night as blasts shook buildings across the city.

“It’s hard,” 32-year-old doctor Kateryna Kucheryava told AFP from the metro as the attack was unfolding. “My child is used to sleeping in complete silence and darkness.

“I picked her up and carried her down. She woke up, and now she’s not sleeping anymore.”

Along station platforms, locals set up tents and lay on air mattresses and camping chairs, while mothers tried to sleep clutching babies to their chests.

Zelenskyy cuts short visit

The EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas said she would propose new sanctions on Moscow over the attack.

The attack came hours after Zelenskyy cut short a visit to Dublin on Wednesday, citing intelligence reports of an impending Russian strike.

Zelenskyy said Russian President Vladimir Putin “has been preparing this massive strike against Ukraine for some time now”.

Ukraine has stepped up long-range drone attacks inside Russia in recent weeks, targeting energy infrastructure and military targets.

Russian officials have reported repeated strikes in border regions, while Moscow has said its air defences have intercepted hundreds of drones from Ukraine in recent days.
