Novice Climber Miraculously Survives 1,500-Foot Fall on Mount Shasta Amid Helicopter Rescue Delay Due to Cloud Cover

0

A novice climber, aged 31, defied the odds after experiencing a dramatic 1,500-foot fall down California’s Mount Shasta. Inclement weather conditions forced rescuers to reconsider their strategy, abandoning an immediate helicopter rescue. Instead, climbing rangers swiftly mobilized on foot to reach her before she could ultimately be airlifted to a hospital.

The incident unfolded on Sunday while the woman was ascending the Left of Heart variant of the well-known Avalanche Gulch route. Accompanied by two other novice climbers, she lost her footing near the 13,000-foot mark, finally coming to a stop about 1,500 vertical feet below, as confirmed by the U.S. Forest Service.

Efforts to directly extract the injured climber via a California Highway Patrol helicopter were thwarted by dense cloud cover, necessitating a multi-phase rescue mission instead.

“The weather added complexity to the rescue operation,” remarked an official from the California Highway Patrol’s Office of Air Operations, associated with the Redding Air Unit, in a statement to the media.

Unable to reach the woman, the helicopter instead dropped U.S. Forest Service climbing rangers lower on Mount Shasta, where they hiked to the patient while the air crew waited for weather conditions to improve.

Once rangers stabilized the climber, they carefully lowered her by rescue litter to Lake Helen, where a CHP helicopter was finally able to land and fly her to Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta at approximately 5:37 p.m.

The rescue took roughly five and a half hours from the initial emergency call until the helicopter evacuation.

Although the distance sounds extraordinary, Shasta-Trinity National Forest officials said the incident was not a straight free fall.

Stokesbury said the climber’s descent was a long slide down the steep snow slope rather than a straight free fall, with the terrain gradually becoming less steep farther down the mountain.

“It starts steep and then kind of levels out a little bit,” Stokesbury told News Media. “It does enough for them to stop.”

Officials said climbers are taught to perform a self-arrest with an ice axe after slipping, but novice climbers often struggle to execute the maneuver before picking up speed.

The woman suffered a suspected fractured ankle along with additional injuries but remained alert and in good spirits when rescuers reached her, according to the Forest Service.

A CHP aviation official also described the terrain as particularly unforgiving.

“That particular portion of the mountain is extremely steep and it kind of funnels into a little bit of a chute,” the official told News Media. “People take a smaller slide on the upper end, there’s nothing to really arrest that descent for quite a while.”

Forest Service officials said the incident follows a familiar pattern seen during the latter part of Mount Shasta’s climbing season.

“Slips and falls happen all the time at that level,” Stokesbury said, adding that April, May and early June generally provide the safest climbing conditions.

As summer arrives, snow begins melting, ice hardens and rocks loosen, increasing the risk of falls and rockfall.

“This is not a normal hiking trail,” Stokesbury said. “You need to make sure you’re in shape, you have your proper gear.”

The Forest Service urges climbers to carry mountaineering equipment including an ice axe and crampons when conditions require, monitor changing weather and route conditions, climb with experienced partners and have an emergency plan before attempting the 14,179-foot volcano.

“Before attempting a summit, be honest about your experience and physical conditioning,” the U.S. Forest Service’s Facebook post reads.

The rescue was carried out by Mount Shasta’s specialized climbing ranger program, which spends each climbing season educating visitors, monitoring mountain conditions and responding to emergencies on one of the nation’s busiest high-altitude climbing routes.

Iconic U.S. Shopping Mall Faces Closure Amid Retail Industry Shifts

0

Once bustling with teenagers, a favorite spot for families on weekends, and famously overrun by zombies on the silver screen, this place holds a special place in Hollywood history.

Today, one of the most iconic shopping malls in the United States is gearing up for what could be its final chapter.

The renowned Monroeville Mall, located in Pennsylvania and etched in film history by George A. Romero’s 1978 horror masterpiece “Dawn of the Dead,” faces potential demolition next year after acquisition by Walmart and its development ally, Cypress Equities.

For the numerous horror enthusiasts attending this month’s annual Living Dead Weekend convention at the mall, the event struck a more poignant chord, resembling a farewell rather than a festive celebration.

This three-day convention, drawing fans not only from across the United States but from as far as New Zealand, likely offered the last opportunity to visit this legendary filming spot before demolition crews arrive.

‘It’s very sad to see all the empty storefronts,’ Monroeville resident Jessica Monning told PublicSource.

‘We’re really trying to soak up as much of it as we can while it’s still here.’

The convention transformed the increasingly empty shopping center back into its zombie-filled glory days.

Fans dressed up like zombies wandered the corridors, recreated famous movie scenes, hunted down filming locations and lined up to meet the cast and crew behind one of horror’s most influential movies.

Others simply came to say goodbye.

‘When it comes to a location like the Monroeville Mall that means a lot to people, don’t wait until the opportunity is perfect,’ longtime visitor Matt Blaizi said. ‘You never know what’s going to happen.’

The emotional farewell comes after Walmart, which purchased the 1.2 million-square-foot property earlier this year through South Saturn Ridge LLC for $34 million, applied for a $7.5 million state redevelopment grant to demolish the aging mall.

According to redevelopment plans, the enclosed shopping center will be replaced with an open-air retail village featuring a Walmart Supercenter, Sam’s Club, restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and public gathering spaces.

Mall tenants have reportedly been told they must vacate by April 2027 ahead of demolition.

The redevelopment marks another chapter in the slow death of the American shopping mall, as once-thriving retail palaces struggle with declining foot traffic and the rise of online shopping.

Monroeville Mall was once among the country’s premier shopping destinations after opening in 1969.

At its peak, it featured more than 100 stores, an indoor ice rink, a famous clock tower and attracted shoppers from across western Pennsylvania.

For many locals, it was where they got their first taste of independence.

‘It was one of the first places you drove to after getting your license,’ Monroeville Mayor Dennis Biondo told TribLive.

Others remember Christmas shopping trips, first dates and afternoons spent skating on the indoor rink.

‘There was just something cool about a mall,’ said longtime resident Betty Valdes. ‘I grew up coming here.’

But for horror fans, Monroeville occupies an entirely different place in American culture.

Director George A. Romero transformed the mall into the primary setting for Dawn of the Dead, using its brightly lit corridors and department stores as a satirical backdrop for consumer culture as survivors hid from flesh-eating zombies.

The film became one of the most influential horror movies ever made, helping cement the modern zombie genre and turning Monroeville into something of a pilgrimage site for movie lovers.

Every year since 2015, Living Dead Weekend has brought thousands of fans together to celebrate Romero’s legacy.

This year’s event featured more than 60 cast and crew members, autograph sessions, movie screenings, guided tours of filming locations and vendors selling horror memorabilia.

Some visitors had travelled more than 20 hours to attend.

Nicole and Paul Graham flew from Wellington, New Zealand, while others made the journey from Britain, Sweden and across the United States.

For many, seeing the mall’s current condition only added to the emotion.

Large sections now sit vacant, with empty storefronts, shuttered retailers and ‘Everything Must Go’ signs replacing the bustling shopping center that once attracted millions of visitors.

With so many vacant storefronts and shuttered retailers, parts of the mall already resemble a post-apocalyptic movie set.

Ironically, the mall that Romero used as a symbol of America’s consumer obsession has itself become a casualty of changing shopping habits.

The Monroeville site follows other iconic malls into decline, including nearby Century III Mall, which is also being demolished after years of abandonment.

Developers insist the replacement project will create a modern mixed-use destination designed to serve the community for decades to come.

But many fans hope at least one piece of the mall survives.

The Living Dead Museum – which celebrates Romero’s films alongside other horror classics including Evil Dead 2, Thriller and Mindhunter – currently occupies space inside the mall, although its future remains uncertain.

Whether the museum relocates or not, fans are determined the legacy won’t die.

Organizers have already scheduled another Living Dead Weekend for October, giving devotees one more chance to walk the same corridors where cinema history was made before Monroeville Mall finally fades into horror movie history.

MEMORISE: He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. – Luke 1:53 (KJV)

READ: Philippians 3:5-14 (KJV)

5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 8-11

Open Heaven 2 July 2026 MESSAGE

In today’s Bible reading, Paul recounted some of his great achievements. He stated that he was of the stock of Israel, a descendant of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews, circumcised on the eighth day, and a Pharisee. After listing his achievements and attributes, he went on to say that he counted them all as loss and dung for Christ.

Paul was clearly one of the most knowledgeable apostles in the Bible. He was a lawyer and a Pharisee who had studied under a renowned teacher, Gamaliel (Acts 22:3). For comparison, we can say that he attended the best university and studied under the most distinguished professor there. He had everything to boast of in terms of knowledge. However, when he gave his life to Jesus, he laid all his accomplishments at the Master’s feet and allowed the Lord to use them for the advancement of His Kingdom. He humbled himself and submitted to Ananias, a disciple of Christ in Damascus and went on missionary trips with Barnabas, a Levite. Paul didn’t allow his past achievements to stop him from pursuing the Lord wholeheartedly.

The secret to Paul’s achievements in his walk with God can be found in Philippians 3:13:

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Paul was always ready to learn more. He never allowed what he had learnt previously to rob him of the things that God wanted to show and teach him. This must be your disposition if you want to walk closely with God and achieve great things in His kingdom. Lamentations 3:23 says that God’s mercies are new every morning. If you keep holding on to yesterday’s mercies, how will you be able to receive today’s portion? There is always more beyond what you have, and God can always give you more than what you have received from Him already. However, it is only as you humble yourself to receive from the Lord that you can get more from Him. One of the greatest enemies of growth is an ‘arrival’ mentality. The moment people think that they have ‘arrived’ (gotten to the peak of success), they stop growing immediately.

Beloved, ask God to help you cultivate a heart that is ever hungry for Him and that constantly seeks to achieve greater exploits in His Kingdom. He will supply you with His grace in abundance so that you will keep soaring in Him.

Open Heaven 2 July 2026 HYMN 12 – Onward, Christian Soldiers!

1 Onward, Christian soldiers,
marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before!
Christ, the royal Master,
leads against the foe;
Forward into battle, see his banner go!

Refrain:
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to
war, With the cross of Jesus going on before!

2 At the name of Jesus
Satan’s host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
at the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
loud your anthems raise!

3 Like a mighty army
moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
where the saints have trod;
We are not divided; all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

4 Crowns and thrones may perish,
Kingdoms rise and wane;
But the church Jesus
constant will remain:
Gates of hell can never
‘gainst that church prevail
We have Christ’s own promise
and that cannot fail

5 Onward, then, ye people,
join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices,
in the triumph song;
Glory, praise and honour,
unto Christ the King;
This through countless ages,
men and angels sing.

Trump Pledges Extended July 4 Speech Regardless of 107-Degree Heat

0

In a bold declaration made on Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced his plans to deliver an extensive speech on the National Mall for America’s 250th anniversary, even as meteorologists predict the temperature to soar to 107 degrees.

“By the way, on July 4, it’s going to be about 107 degrees,” he remarked at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library’s inauguration event in Medora, North Dakota. “I’m going to be there, making a really long speech just to prove I can do anything,” he confidently stated.

The “Salute to America 250 Celebration and Fireworks” is set to kick off at 7 p.m. on the National Mall, with President Trump expected to take the stage at 9:45 p.m. EDT. The event is organized by the Trump administration’s Freedom 250 committee, which is orchestrating the Great American State Fair along the iconic Mall.

President Trump has previously described this National Mall gathering as “the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all.”

He touted the upcoming affair on Truth Social last month, promising “incredible Flyovers and Airshows featuring our Top Military Pilots and Equipment.” Trump’s keynote remarks are anticipated to be memorable, as he assured attendees they “will not want to miss” his address. To cap off the festivities, he vowed to launch “the LARGEST FIREWORKS SHOW IN HISTORY” in the nation’s capital, urging people not to miss the historic evening.

The fireworks show is slated to kick off at 10:30 p.m., according to Freedom 250’s website. However, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Monday said the fireworks show will start at 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) expects Washington, D.C., to reach a high of 107, as the president said. The temperature is likely to remain hot through the evening, but it should drop to 88 degrees by 9 p.m. when Trump gives his address. The city faces an elevated extreme heat risk all throughout Saturday.

Forecasters also anticipate a high heat index of 94 degrees and humidity levels reaching 54 percent. They warn this could leave temperatures feeling hotter outside, potentially challenging daily record high temperatures.

“It looks as though the heat and humidity will likely hold on through the weekend as well,” the NWS stated on Wednesday. “However, forecast confidence in the exact high temperatures starts to decrease a bit, as both remnant cloud cover from thunderstorms on previous days and thunderstorms from the day of could impact temperatures.”

Washington’s record for the hottest temperature on the Fourth of July was 1919, when the high reached 100 degrees, according to the NWS.

DCLM Daily Manna 2 July 2026 — Our Faithful Covenant-Keeper

DCLM Daily Manna 2 July 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Our Faithful Covenant-Keeper

TOPIC: Our Faithful Covenant-Keeper (DCLM Daily Manna 2 July 2026)

KEY VERSE: The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him – Psalm 89:22,23

TEXT: Psalm 89:19-24 (KJV)

19 Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

21 With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.

22 The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

23 And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.

24 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

You might have heard the saying, “Promises are meant to be broken,” especially in the business world. Sadly, this often proves true today, as people quickly make and break commitments at will. Even marriage, which is supposed to be the most sacred bond, isn’t immune to this trend of infidelity. People might agree to terms on paper, but when it becomes inconvenient, they back out or end relationships at the first sign of trouble. God is different. When He makes a promise, He keeps it.

The passage under consideration brings us back to God’s unwavering covenant with David. Ethan, the inspired writer of this psalm, reflects on the significant moment when the prophet Samuel anointed David to be the future king of Israel. This anointing was more than just a ritual; it represented God’s choice and empowerment for leadership. The psalmist starts by recalling God’s promise to David and his descendants, ensuring that David’s dynasty would last forever. He describes the blessings that come with this promise: David would have divine support in ruling his kingdom; his people would be free from oppression, and his enemies—both external and within— would be swiftly defeated or struck down by plague. David would experience God’s faithfulness and mercy, which would benefit his subjects and clear the way for his kingdom’s growth. His “horn,” a symbol of his power, would be lifted high as God fights his battles, granting him victory and security.

As we reflect on this passage, we are reminded that God’s promises are grounded in His faithfulness, not in our abilities or worthiness. David’s anointing and the promise to his dynasty are a testament to God’s sovereign choice and empowerment. In our own lives, we can find encouragement in God’s faithfulness. Just as David’s throne was secure because of God’s promise, we too, will find safety when we build our lives on God, the ultimate covenant Keeper. There was a time when Israel strayed from God, and David’s dynasty faced defeat in battle. Then, it seemed like God’s promise to him would fail. Ultimately, the covenant was fulfilled through Jesus Christ, the Son of David, who will reign forever. Though men fail, God’s faithfulness never fails!

Today, believers partake of God’s promises through faith in Jesus. In case you are searching for a love that never fails, it can only be found in a relationship with the covenant-keeping God.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Faith in God’s faithfulness is vital in our walk with Him.

Reduced Payments, Extended Debts: How the HELP Overhaul Impacts Young Australians

0

At just 18, Grace (we’ll keep her surname private) found herself entangled in a financial obligation she didn’t fully grasp.

With aspirations for a career in public policy, she signed up for a course in Applied Public Health and Global Studies. However, the degree’s substantial focus on science — including anatomy, physiology, and lab work — came with a heftier price tag than she had anticipated.

“No one explains this to us,” Grace remarks to The Feed, referring to the HELP loan that facilitated her studies.

“Back in school, I was naive… I didn’t understand it was a loan that needed to be repaid,” she reflects.

Now 24 and employed as an executive coordinator at a public hospital, Grace has observed her loan amount fluctuate in ways that seem beyond her influence.

A one-off 20 per cent reduction to HELP (Higher Education Loan Program) debts and other student loans — a centrepiece of Labor’s 2025 election pitch — stripped roughly $8,600 from her loan last year, taking it from about $43,000 to the low $30,000s.

But HELP debts are indexed to inflation annually on 1 June, and the most recent adjustment has already bumped her balance up again to around $35,000.

Grace has chosen not to make voluntary repayments, wary that any savings she contributes could simply be undone.

A smiling young woman in a black graduation gown, cap, and a green hood, holding a large bouquet of white flowers against a textured blue background.

The average student loan in Australia sits at $27,640 and takes close to a decade — about 9.9 years — to clear in full.

With the onset of the new financial year, the benefit of a second, lesser-known reform is landing in the tax returns of Grace and roughly three million other Australians who still carry student debt.

The repayment threshold — the income at which repayments begin — has risen sharply from $54,000 to $67,000, and repayments are now levied only on earnings above that threshold, rather than as a percentage of a person’s total income.

The result: most borrowers will repay less each year, and those earning under $67,000 will owe nothing at all until their income rises.

Only those earning $179,286 and above continue to repay at the same rate as before — 10 per cent of their total income.

Accountant Scott Kay of Integrity Plus Accounting, who prepared the financial analysis behind this story for The Feed, describes the reform as “clever modelling by the government to help lower earners keep more of their cash in their pocket”.

But what does the reform mean in real terms? And who comes out ahead?

A short-term win in every pay packet

For most borrowers — those earning between $67,000 and $179,286 — the headline change is less money withheld from their pay each fortnight.

Repayments apply only to the portion of income above $67,000, meaning those just above threshold benefit most. Previously, they paid a percentage of their entire income, rather than on the thin slice above the line.

The relief, however, does not scale evenly with income, and can even run in the opposite direction.

Under the old system, repayments were charged as a flat percentage of a person’s total income, with that percentage jumping at fixed salary thresholds — so a small pay rise that pushed someone past a threshold could mean a higher rate.

The new system raises repayments more gradually, on a marginal basis, meaning the size of the saving depends on how heavily the old system would have taxed each earner.

A table titled "Annual HELP repayment by income: old rules vs new rules" comparing annual loan repayments and savings across various income brackets between 2024–25 and 2025–26 rules.

Someone on $95,000, for instance, saves roughly $1,025 a year, while someone on $100,000 saves only $550 — not because they earn more, but because the old brackets treated their two incomes very differently.

Kay’s modelling shows that lower earners still see the largest annual saving. A graduate on $75,000, for example, sees their yearly repayment more than halved to $1,200 — a saving of $1,425. Meanwhile, higher earners may only save a few hundred dollars each year.

For early-career workers with modest incomes, it means more money kept in each pay rather than quietly absorbed into a loan balance.

Accountant Sarah Clayton of Freshwater Taxation, a tax specialist who has examined the reform closely, agrees the short-term gain is both genuine and broadly felt.

The clearest beneficiaries, she says, “are likely to be graduates with smaller HELP debts, higher incomes, or strong future earning potential” — those whose debt was unlikely to linger long enough for a downside to take hold.

The catch beneath the relief

While loan holders will see more in their pay packets in the short term, for some, that relief comes at an extended cost.

Because compulsory repayments are now initially smaller, the debt is paid down more slowly — and as HELP balances are indexed each year, a loan left outstanding for longer absorbs more indexation before it’s finally cleared.

Modelling shows the burden is far from evenly distributed.

A graduate earning $75,000 with a $20,000 debt who would once have cleared it in six years now takes nine; raise that debt to $40,000 and the wait stretches from 12 years to 14.

A worker on $150,000, by contrast, clears even a sizeable debt in two or three years under either system.

A table titled "Years to clear a HELP debt: old rules vs new rules" comparing the time required to pay off $20,000 and $40,000 debts across different salary tiers.

Whether a borrower loses out, Clayton says, comes down to one factor: how long their income stays low.

The biggest losers are those whose incomes stagnate or fall — often because they have stepped back from full-time work to retrain, raise children or move into lower-paid sectors — leaving a large debt to sit and gather indexation for years.

But that profile is the exception, she says. Incomes generally rise over a career, and a graduate who starts on a modest salary and earns more with time will usually clear the debt before the additional indexation amounts to much.

The modelling prepared for The Feed assumes only a flat 3 per cent annual salary increase and so does not capture the larger jumps — promotions, pay rises and bonuses — that can clear a debt far faster than these figures suggest.

“If a person has an expensive degree, but then within a few years — a shortish amount of time — starts making good money, they’re fine,” Clayton says.

What ultimately decides the outcome is not the size of the debt today, but the trajectory of the income that follows it.

For Grace, who left Melbourne’s suburbs for regional Queensland, the additional cash is welcome, but she feels somewhat trapped.

She now believes that staying there, where property is cheaper, is her only realistic path to home ownership. She is also in the process of retraining — a shift that will mean taking on more study, and with it more debt.

“I want to pay [my HELP debt] off as soon as I can,” she says, “but am I going to pay off a $40,000 debt or am I going to pay my rent, eat every day, save towards a house?”

Who is actually better off?

The reassuring finding is that, across the full life of the loan, almost no one pays dramatically more — and the amount they do pay tracks income and debt with striking consistency.

A graduate on $75,000 carrying a $40,000 debt repays around $2,754 more over the life of the loan — the widest gap among the scenarios modelled for The Feed. A worker on $150,000 pays barely $40 more, whatever the size of their balance.

“Everyone is either the same or slightly better off,” Kay says — no one repays meaningfully more, and many come out marginally ahead.

That cost is also tempered by a built-in safeguard. HELP debts now rise by whichever is lower, inflation or wage growth, so the balance can no longer climb faster than wages — as it did in 2023, when a spike in inflation pushed up debts sharply.

A table titled "Total repaid over the life of the loan: old rules vs new rules" comparing total loan amounts repaid and any extra amounts paid under the 2024–25 and 2025–26 rules, based on income and initial debt.

Kay points out that indexation has stayed relatively restrained — last year it sat at 2.8 per cent, with the highest rate in recent years in the 4s — so, for most people, a longer repayment period adds little to the total amount owed.

For most borrowers in the middle-income bracket, the exchange is simple: more money in hand now, for a loan that lasts modestly longer and costs modestly more.

However, there is also a pitfall Clayton flags for aspiring homeowners.

A HELP balance reduces how much a bank will lend, and a debt that endures for additional years shadows a mortgage application for just as long.

“The mortgage broker will always look at that debt. It will definitely go against them,” Clayton says, noting some lenders insist the debt be cleared in full before they approve a loan at all.

For Grace, that concern is what weighs most heavily. “I do want to buy a house sometime in the near future,” she says, “and I know that’s going to be a very big factor in my borrowing capacity”.

Yet her degree is not what she would undo.

“I don’t regret it,” she says.

“But I wish there was a different way young people can still have access to education.”

Tom Hardy’s MobLand: Season 2 Premiere Date Revealed

The past few months have certainly been tumultuous in the unpredictable realm of MobLand.

The filming of the much-anticipated second season of this Paramount+ hit has wrapped up, but speculation rose back in May about the future dynamics of the show. Reports circulated that Tom Hardy, the leading star, might not return for a potential third season. Tensions between Hardy and the show’s mastermind, Jez Butterworth, were reportedly fueled by Hardy’s frequent tardiness, possibly paving the way for his exit from the acclaimed series.

However, the story took an unexpected turn. Deadline revealed earlier this week that Hardy would, in fact, continue with the series. This announcement followed a constructive meeting attended by Hardy, Butterworth, and the show’s executive producer, David Glasser. Although not yet officially greenlit, the anticipated third season is likely to spotlight the familiar trio of Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren.

Curious about when MobLand will be back with fresh episodes? Here’s an update regarding the premiere of the second season.

Is MobLand Airing A New Episode This Week (July 1)?

Regrettably, MobLand won’t be returning with new episodes in the immediate future. The finale of the first season aired on June 1, 2025, on Paramount+, and fans are eagerly awaiting news of when the series will grace their screens again.

Has MobLand Been Renewed For Season 2?

Yes! Not only has the show been renewed for a second season, but a third season is also expected, with a Season 3 writers’ room already underway.

When Will MobLand Season 2 Premiere on Paramount+?

There’s no official MobLand Season 2 release date, but back in May, executive producer/director Guy Ritchie told ScreenRant that the show is expected to be back “before the end of the year.”

With the first season concluding in June 2025, our best guess is a fall 2026 premiere date.

Is Tom Hardy Returning To MobLand?

Yes! As we mentioned above, Tom Hardy will now be back for a probable third season of MobLand!

Leaked Audio Unveils Alleged Las Vegas Terror Plotter’s Ominous Threats

An individual identified as a transgender woman, who allegedly orchestrated a terror plot targeting a casino near Las Vegas, had previously threatened a mass shooting years earlier, as revealed by disturbing police audio recordings.

Allison Howlett, 36, born male but now living as a woman, was taken into custody on Saturday. Authorities apprehended her in the parking garage of a Henderson casino, located near Las Vegas, where they discovered a significant stockpile of firearms and ammunition.

Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader disclosed that Howlett’s former spouse tipped off police, reporting that Howlett was contemplating “suicide by cop” or a potential mass shooting.

Following her arrest, officials unveiled that Howlett had made threats of a mass shooting as early as 2024. They supported their claims by playing a chilling audio clip of an expletive-filled rant by the suspect.

In the recording, Howlett is heard declaring, “I swear to God, if the FBI doesn’t come f—king arrest me, there’s gonna be a f—king mass shooting,” according to law enforcement reports.

Howlett then grows more agitated, adding: “There’s one day you’re gonna be pissing me the f—k off, and it’s gonna be the last f—king straw.

“You’re going to the be reason that hundreds of people lose their goddamn life.”

Officers did not identify the source of the recording or who Howlett had been speaking to.

Howlett was arrested Saturday charges of making terroristic threats, assault with a deadly weapon, auto theft, gun theft and other offenses.

Video of the arrest at the Sunset Station hotel shows officers surrounding Howlett’s vehicle and dragging the suspect from the car.

Officers were shocked to see Howlett had been sitting on a handgun and had an MP5 submachine gun in the back seat.

Police said they uncovered a total of 55 firearms, with 22 of them from the vehicle and the rest from Howlett’s residence. Multiple handguns, rifles, a fully automatic firearm, suppressors and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were discovered in the car.

Howlett remains in custody on $500,000 bail. A judge on Wednesday set a preliminary hearing for July 15.

1985 Cold Case Breakthrough: DNA from Soda Bottle Ties Massachusetts Woman to ‘Baby Boy Doe’ Murder

0

DNA evidence from a soda bottle has reportedly connected a woman from Massachusetts to the tragic 1985 death of her newborn son. This revelation came as authorities shared details from a long-standing investigation begun when the infant’s body was discovered in the woods by a father and son out rabbit hunting.

Dianne Curry Peck, now 59, appeared in court on Tuesday and entered a not guilty plea to a murder charge related to the case. The infant, referred to for decades as “Baby Boy Doe” from Mansfield, Massachusetts, has remained a mystery until now.

“Cases involving newborns are among the most heartrending,” commented FBI Boston Special Agent-in-Charge Ted Docks outside the courthouse. “This child, allegedly abandoned to perish in the woods without care or love, was denied the basic right to life. For 41 years, he was simply Baby Boy Doe, a child who entered the world full of potential but tragically denied the chance to live.”

On January 26, 1985, a startling discovery was made by a father and son after they spotted footprints in the snow. Initially mistaking the found object for a doll, they were shocked to realize it was a naked newborn. This heart-wrenching find set off an investigation that was recently revitalized with new DNA evidence, as reported by WCVB. Read more here.

An autopsy determined the child was born alive before dying a short time later.

“It was naked, lying on its back; the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby,” Kenneth Martin, who at the time was working as a Massachusetts State Police trooper assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, told the outlet.

The Mansfield Police Department, along with former New England Patriots quarterback Steve Grogan, paid for the baby’s funeral, Boston 25 News reported.

The case went cold until Bristol County investigators reopened it in 2022, partnering with the FBI and state authorities.

Using forensic genetic genealogy, investigators analyzed the baby’s DNA, which eventually led them to Peck.

DNA recovered from a soda bottle taken from her trash ultimately linked her to the child, authorities said.

At the time of the birth, Peck was a 17-year-old student at Mansfield High School. She allegedly admitted to investigators that she had given birth to a child in the back seat of her ex-boyfriend’s car, Boston 25 reported.

She claimed she gave the baby to him because he said he knew someone who would adopt the infant. Peck told investigators she believed she had given birth to a girl and never spoke to her ex-boyfriend again. He died in 2020, according to the FBI.

Prosecutors also noted there is no evidence that anyone — including Peck’s ex-boyfriend — knew she was pregnant, according to the news outlet.

Peck allegedly told police she gave birth on Jan. 20, 1985, but prosecutors argued in court that the timeline is inconsistent with the condition of the baby’s body and the freezing temperatures at the time.

According to a medical examiner, the infant had likely been in the woods for only about 12 hours before being discovered.

Jaylen Brown Trade Shakes Up NBA as Boston Celtics Swap Star with Division Rival

0

The Jaylen Brown trade saga has reached its conclusion in Boston. Reports indicate that the Celtics have decided to send the 2024 NBA Finals MVP to one of their fiercest rivals, the Philadelphia 76ers.

In return, the Celtics have acquired veteran forward Paul George, as well as two first-round and two second-round draft picks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania and The Athletic’s Jay King. The Daily Mail has sought confirmation with both teams.

In recent days, the Celtics have been assertively looking to move Brown, with competitive offers reportedly emerging from 8 to 10 teams, as noted by Charania.

Fans expressed astonishment at Celtics president Brad Stevens’ decision to part with Brown. Their surprise is understandable given that Brown, at 29, is in his prime, whereas the 36-year-old George has struggled with injuries. George has managed to surpass the 70-game mark in a season just once since the 2018-2019 period and is coming off lackluster seasons in Philadelphia, where his scoring slumped to an average of 16.7 points, dipping significantly below his career average of 20.5.

Last season, Brown delivered an impressive performance, averaging 28.7 points and securing 6.9 rebounds per game while his fellow All-Star, Jayson Tatum, was on the mend from a torn Achilles incurred during a playoff battle against the Knicks in 2025.

One fan humorously expressed their disbelief on social media platform X, writing, ‘Trading Jaylen Brown for Paul George at this stage of their careers would have Celtics fans checking if Shams got hacked.’

Brown has been a key figure in Boston since being drafted in 2016 and was even named Finals MVP after the team won its 18th league title in 2024 by beating the Dallas Mavericks

‘I need to understand what led to this,’ read a post from the @CelticsBlog X account.

Brown’s name had come up in a number of trade scenarios in recent weeks, but the five-time NBA All-Star remained a candidate to return to Boston next season until Wednesday’s agreement.

Earlier in the day, Boston agreed to a three-year, $47.44 million deal with former New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson and a one-year veteran’s minimum deal with long-time point guard Mike Conley.

Interestingly, Brown recently criticized 76ers center Joel Embiid for allegedly flopping to draw foul calls from league officials.

‘I mean, this is my personal opinion on basketball,’ Brown said on his own livestream in May. ‘Some of y’all might disagree, you know what I mean? But argue with your grandma. Flopping has ruined our game.

‘Embiid is a great player, one of the best bigs in f***in basketball history, flops,’ Brown continued. ‘He knows it. This ain’t breaking news.’

Brown and the Celtics blew a 3-1 series lead to the Sixers in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.

Although Philadelphia fell to the ultimate-champion Knicks, coach Nick Nurse now boasts a lineup that includes an impressive young backcourt in VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey, improving forward Justin Edwards, and Embiid, a former MVP who remains one of the league’s top threats at both ends of the floor when healthy.

The trade does offer Boston some financial flexibility given that he’s signed through 2028-29, while George can opt out of his max deal before the 2027-28 season or wait to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2028, when he will be 38.

Boston will owe $54 million to George in 2026-27, while Philadelphia is on the hook for Brown’s $57 million salary.

The Celtics originally acquired the draft pick they used on Brown in 2013 when they traded NBA legends Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets for a bevy of future selections.

Three years later, Boston took Brown third overall out of Cal and later paired him with Tatum, who is now seen as the franchise cornerstone.

Remarkably, Brown would go on to win 83 playoff games with the Celtics, while recording nine double doubles along the way.
