Ageless Beauty: Grease Star Didi Conn Shines at 74 in New Campaign

0

Iconic actress Didi Conn, best known for her role in “Grease,” has made a remarkable return in a captivating beauty campaign.

Nearly half a century has passed since the 74-year-old dazzled audiences in the 1978 hit film alongside stars like John Travolta and the beloved Olivia Newton-John.

Conn channels her memorable “Grease” persona in a fresh advertisement for Laura Geller Beauty, where she revisits her character Frenchy—forever remembered as the ‘beauty school dropout’—through a nostalgic nod to her storyline’s iconic theme song.

In a social media clip released Tuesday, she humorously reflects, ‘Hello there. Remember when I dropped out of beauty school? I once thought it spelled doom for my hair and I would be trapped in a cycle of costly salon visits forever.’

Her witty dialogue serves to promote the brand’s innovative Full Root-ine Hair & Brow Concealing Cream and Powder.

In a nod to Frenchy’s status in the high school girl group Pink Ladies, the clip showed her clad in a pale pink dress with a pleated skirt and name tag.

In a new Laura Geller Beauty ad, Conn riffs off her Grease storyline – in which her character Frenchy was a ‘beauty school dropout,’ complete with a plot-defining song

Conn, whose hair was mistakenly dyed a gingery red hue in the beloved movie-musical, looked chic with a brunette bob.

In the decades since the career-defining film, she has brushed off claims that Grease is sexist.

Grease followed the naive, teenage Sandy (Olivia Newton-John), who was reunited with her summer sweetheart Danny (John Travolta) after transferring to his high school.

While Danny has a reputation as a ‘bad boy’ who hangs with his ‘greaser’ crew, Sandy is demure and inexperienced.

But by the end of the movie, viewers see her transform into a sassy, cigarette-smoking version of herself to keep up with Danny.

Conn insisted in 2020 that Sandy was ’emancipated’ rather than exploited by her metamorphosis.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, the actress explained that Sandy opted for a sexier appearance to escape her restricted upbringing, after critics said the character shouldn’t have to change herself to be with the charming Danny Zuko.

Bringing her role into the conversation, she said: ‘Frenchy always wanted to be a beautician. She wanted to make people beautiful and bring every great quality in them.’

Does Sandy’s transformation in Grease empower women or reinforce harmful stereotypes about beauty?

Conn continued: ‘She failed, she had a few problems in the tinting class over there. She still cared, especially for her friends.

‘So when Sandy is all alone by herself after the car race and she decides she wants to be part of the gang, she wants to have fun and allow herself to be emancipated a little bit. She says to Frenchy, “Can you help me Frenchy?” you know.

‘So, it’s like the first makeover show, she is becoming more of herself. She is allowing herself to come through.

‘It’s not so much to get her man but it’s to be who she is 100%. He ran away from the dance because he was dancing with Cha-Cha and she couldn’t confront him because there was this part of herself that wanted to come out.’

She noted that despite Sandy’s innocent appearance, she was secretly hoping to bring out her sexuality, which sets the stage for her makeover by the film’s end.

Miraculous Tornado Survival: Man Emerges Unscathed as Storm Levels His Home

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — An Effingham resident considers himself fortunate to still be alive after a tornado devastated his residence last week, reducing it to rubble.

The footage you have just viewed has garnered nearly 18,000 likes and has been shared over 8,000 times across social media platforms.

Captured almost a week ago on Wednesday, this dramatic video shows what happened. Trevor Kreke, who had been renting the house for about a year, recalls that despite the blaring sirens and the alerts on his phone, he didn’t anticipate the tornado would head directly toward him.

“I’m still in shock,” Kreke expressed.

Kreke recounts that on Wednesday, while he was at home, his grandfather called to ask if he had noticed any storms approaching yet.

“He said, how is it there? I said it’s not raining. It’s not windy. It looks it honestly looks pretty outside.” said Kreke.

That’s when he says he learned the true meaning of calm before the storm.

“Glass started breaking and then I couldn’t feel my movement. I couldn’t control any movement, and it was pretty much a blur from that point. It was complete darkness. Then about 15 seconds later, I saw light and realized somehow I was alive.” said Kreke.

Kreke isn’t the only one who lost nearly everything. He was renting the home from Todd Koester who lives only a few hundred yards away.

Koester says he lost around 2500 bushels of corn from his grain bin. But he says the things that are personal, what can’t be replaced hurts the most. Like personal trinkets that belonged to his late father.

“My dad had all kinds of little stuff that meant a lot to him. And we had it for the farm and it was just little stuff. I call it junk, but it wasn’t junk to him.” said Koester.

Todd and his wife are staying in a trailer–their home also sustained damage. Bit by bit they’re beginning to clean up — with some unexpected help.

“There was like 60 cars in our driveway parked up in the yard. And how many people that actually came out to help this stuff up was unreal.” said Koester.

Both say they are thankful to see another day and have a message before the next storm hits.

“A lesson we can all learn is take the warning seriously, and it can happen. Even if you think It can’t.” said Kreke.

“We’re going to build a house with a basement.” said Koester.

Koester says it will be at least a year–until he rebuilds. Kreke says he has a GoFundMe online—which has raised more than 41-thousand dollars. He plans to use those donations to recover — and then give the REST to others who lost property in the community. You can find a link to that here.

Karoline Leavitt Returns to the Campaign Trail with Trump in Pennsylvania, Bringing Along Newborn Daughter Vivi

0

Departing from discussions on Middle Eastern conflicts and Iran, former President Trump delivered remarks against the backdrop of Mack Trucks’ humming factory in Lower Macungie Township. The plant, a part of the Volvo Group, provided a powerful setting for his message.

Among those accompanying Trump was Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who rejoined the political stage in this significant battleground area. Her appearance marked a return to the campaign trail just under two months after welcoming her daughter, Vivi.

Leavitt, gradually stepping back into her professional role, made her presence known with her initial media report on Fox News yesterday after her maternity leave, as she gears up for the upcoming midterm elections.

During his address in Pennsylvania, Trump pitched a re-industrialization plan aimed at revitalizing the Rust Belt’s economy. He appealed directly to the working-class voters who have been significantly impacted by inflation, driven in part by the ongoing Middle East conflict, and who were instrumental in the rise of his MAGA movement.

Trump also highlighted what he claims as achieved progress in dealings with Iran, underscoring his administration’s diplomatic efforts.

‘We are trying to work out a deal that is fair,’ he said, while adding that the stock market has hit a new high today.

He also bragged that oil and gas prices have shot down.

Trump aggressively leaned into his foreign policy achievements, telling the crowd that his administration’s high–stakes pressure campaign had brought Iran to its knees.

‘We just achieved a historic peace agreement with Iran to end the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz,’ Trump announced, noting that 19 million barrels of oil flowed through the strait just yesterday.

He credited the shift to a devastating military strike targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, which he nicknamed ‘Operation Hammer’

‘Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, and they’ve agreed to that,’ Trump said. ‘We’re leaving Iran with no navy, no air force, no anti–aircraft, no missile capability, no nuclear program. We’re leaving them without any nuclear capacity, and they’ve agreed to that, and we’re getting along quite well.’

He added that the Iranian economy has been ‘crushed’ and its defense industrial base severely damaged, causing oil prices to slide back down to $70 a barrel.

Turning his focus back to the Rust Belt – which he declared had been transformed into the ‘Money Belt’ – Trump championed his aggressive tariff policies as the catalyst for a massive American manufacturing resurgence.

‘Within a single year of taking office, I slashed trade deficit with China by the largest amount in the history of trade… I cut it by 67%,’ he shouted to roaring applause.

He added that the US is currently building three times more factories, including automotive and AI facilities, than at any other point in American history.

Trump took time to list massive, multi–billion–dollar investments directly impacting the crucial battleground state, asserting that ‘more Americans are working today than at any time in the history of our country.’

He mentioned medicine company Eli Lilly, a massive $3.5 billion investment in a brand–new, state–of–the–art manufacturing facility ‘right down the road’ in the Lehigh Valley, creating over 1,000 jobs. He also touted US Steel’s expansion and telecommunications company Nokia’s $30 million to expand semiconductor testing.

The rally featured several high–profile guests who took the stage alongside the President.

Marine Corps veteran Patrick McHugh Jr., a 28–year employee of the Mack Trucks plant, stood on stage with his father and son – representing a combined 78 years of building trucks at the facility.

‘At Mack Trucks, we work hard to build the trucks that help build America,’ McHugh said, thanking Trump for stopping the previous administration’s fuel emission standards and electric vehicle mandates that he claimed would have ‘crushed’ the factory.

In a nod to sports fans, Trump brought out Penn State wrestling icons and UFC stars Bo Nickal and Anthony Cassar, fresh off their appearance at UFC Freedom 250, which was held on the White House lawn.

Before concluding, Trump doubled down on his signature ‘drill, baby, drill’ policy, noting that the US is now the number one producer of oil and gas on Earth – larger than Russia and Saudi Arabia combined.

He also praised the rescue of local coal facilities, mandating that the energy source always be referred to as ‘clean, beautiful coal.’

Gavin Newsom Takes a Bold Step with Joe Biden

0

With an eye toward the 2028 presidential election, many Democrats are eager to move beyond the shadow of Joe Biden’s leadership.

Gavin Newsom, however, is adopting a starkly different approach.

This divergence from the norm is no mere chance. It is an intentional strategy.

As some within the Democratic Party seek distance from Biden after his unsuccessful reelection campaign and the subsequent political fallout, California Governor Gavin Newsom is taking a contrary stance. He has become one of Biden’s most vocal supporters, frequently commending Biden’s achievements and affirming his dedication to the current president.

Newsom has described Biden’s term in office as a “masterclass of policymaking.” He pledges unwavering loyalty to Biden, asserting he will never desert him. Just last week, he further emphasized his commitment.

He hosted Hunter Biden on his podcast.

That matters.

Most ambitious Democrats would not go anywhere near Hunter Biden. They would treat him as a political liability. Newsom did the opposite. He gave the former president’s son a friendly platform at the moment the Democratic Party is trying to figure out what to do with the Biden legacy.

That was not just a podcast booking. It was a very public message to Biden’s orbit.

Newsom appears to be telling Biden-world that he is different. He is not running away. He is not joining the chorus of Democrats suggesting Biden should have stepped aside earlier. He is not using Biden as a punching bag to prove he represents the future.

Newsom is making himself available as Biden’s heir.

That may sound odd, given Biden’s age, unpopularity, and Democratic frustration over 2024. But presidential primaries are not general elections. Democratic primary voters are older, more partisan, and more loyal to party figures than pundits suggest. Among many Democratic voters, especially older voters and key constituencies in early primary states, Biden’s name still carries weight.

Newsom may be betting that those voters will reward loyalty.

There is another reason this matters: Kamala Harris.

If Harris runs in 2028, she begins with the most obvious claim on Biden’s political inheritance. She was his vice president. She was his running mate. She inherited his campaign after Democrats finally admitted the obvious in 2024.

A Biden endorsement of Harris would be expected.

But a Biden endorsement of Newsom would be explosive.

It would say Biden passed over his own vice president and chose the governor of California as the better carrier of his legacy. That would be a brutal blow to Harris and a major boost to Newsom.

Even if Biden never endorses Newsom, blocking or complicating a Biden endorsement of Harris has value. In politics, sometimes denying your opponent a weapon matters almost as much as gaining one yourself.

This is where the Hunter Biden podcast becomes more important. Newsom was not merely praising Joe Biden from a distance. He was cultivating the Biden family directly, in public, on his own platform.

That is not what a politician does when he is trying to make Biden disappear from the conversation.

It is the behavior of a politician who sees upside in being seen as loyal when others are not.

And now there is another layer.

Newsom is facing federal scrutiny tied to the financial network surrounding him, his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and their nonprofit operations. Federal investigators have been examining the finances of those organizations. The governor has framed the probe as politically motivated retaliation for his presidential ambitions.

That framing pays real dividends. Standing close to Biden places Newsom inside a larger Democratic narrative of persecution and loyalty — and connects him to a network of donors and operatives who remain loyal to the Biden family.

The public pattern is clear.

At the same time other Democrats are putting daylight between themselves and Biden, Newsom is moving closer. At the same time he is trying to frame federal scrutiny as political retaliation, he is strengthening ties to the family of the last Democratic president.

That may be coincidence. But in presidential politics, it looks a lot like strategy.

The risk for Newsom is just as real.

If Newsom becomes Biden’s heir, he may inherit Biden’s baggage, too. Republicans would be thrilled to run against a candidate who can be branded as both the California model and the Biden model.

High costs. Homelessness. Open-border politics. Soft-on-crime instincts. Bureaucratic arrogance. A governing class that insists failure is success.

That attack writes itself.

But Newsom’s first problem is not the general election. His first problem is surviving the Democratic primary, and especially Harris. Seen that way, his Biden gamble makes sense. Loyalty to Biden could pay dividends if Biden-world has to choose between Harris and him.

It could work. It could also saddle Newsom with exactly the baggage other Democrats are trying to shed.

Newsom is not just defending Joe Biden. He is positioning himself to inherit Biden’s place in the Democratic Party — and betting that play is enough to clear Harris before Republicans ever get their shot.

Florida Serial Killer Case Reopened: Search Intensifies for More Victims

0

This week, authorities in Florida have launched a search of a property in Hernando County, hoping to uncover more victims linked to Billy Mansfield, a notorious serial killer. This search comes decades after an initial investigation led to the discovery of four bodies connected to his family.

Kicking off on Monday, the operation involves collaboration among investigators from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and the State Attorney’s Office. They are focusing their excavation efforts at Dry Creek Ranch. This move follows alerts from cadaver dogs during a recent search, raising suspicions of more undiscovered remains.

As reported by FOX 13 Tampa Bay, investigators have been scouring wooded areas near the ranch property, intensifying their search for potential evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

This search initiative is part of longstanding efforts by authorities to revisit cases related to Mansfield, particularly focusing on the property on Centerwood Avenue, where his family once resided.

According to Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, Billy Mansfield and his brother, Gary Mansfield, traveled to California in the late 1970s, and became involved in a homicide investigation there.

Information developed during that case led Hernando County investigators to obtain a search warrant for property connected to the Mansfield family, where four bodies were discovered in the early 1980s.

Two of the four victims were identified relatively quickly, while investigators later identified a third. Authorities have recently developed genetic genealogy leads that could help identify the remaining victim and locate surviving relatives.

Authorities have long suspected there may be additional victims.

Nienhuis said Billy Mansfield previously indicated there could be more bodies in Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas counties, but investigators were unable to reach an agreement that would have provided additional information in exchange for reduced charges.

The sheriff’s office reopened portions of the investigation roughly three years ago, reviewing thousands of case files and conducting interviews with Mansfield with assistance from federal and state authorities.

Investigators previously excavated another location identified during the review but found no human remains. A continued examination of records eventually led authorities to search additional areas north and west of prior search sites.

Cadaver dogs searched an area near Fort Dade Avenue and Citrus Way on Monday but found no indication of buried human remains. At Dry Creek Ranch, however, the dogs produced enough alerts to prompt investigators to begin digging.

“We’re cautiously optimistic we might actually find something,” Nienhuis said.

The sheriff noted that any future prosecution is unlikely because of the age of the case, but said investigators remain committed to identifying potential victims and providing answers to families who may have spent decades wondering what happened to their loved ones.

The search remains ongoing.

Mansfield’s name resurfaced nationally last year, after he confessed to the killing of an Ohio teenager whose spring break disappearance had remained unsolved for decades.

In January 2024, Mansfield confessed to killing 18-year-old Carol Ann Barrett more than four decades earlier.

Barrett’s body was found in a ditch along Interstate 95 in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 24, 1980. A day earlier, the Ohio native had been enjoying spring break in Daytona Beach when she was kidnapped from her motel.

For decades, investigators had little more than Barrett’s body and a composite sketch of a suspect based on interviews with her friends. The case remained unsolved until investigators revived it around 2017.

Mansfield eventually confessed to Barrett’s abduction and murder after roughly two years of interviews with investigators. He was 24 years old at the time of her death.

Mansfield is currently serving a life sentence in California and four concurrent life sentences in Florida in connection with the murders of five women and girls between 1975 and 1980.

He buried several of his victims beneath his Spring Hill home on Florida’s Gulf Coast, about 2½ hours from Daytona Beach, where Barrett was abducted.

Mansfield pleaded guilty to a California murder to avoid the death penalty in Florida and has been incarcerated since 1982.

Wizards Select Top Prospect as No.1 Pick in 2026 NBA Draft

0

In a significant move during the 2026 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards have made a bold statement by selecting AJ Dybantsa, the standout player from BYU, as their number one overall pick.

As a forward, Dybantsa impressed during his singular college season, leading the nation with an average of 25.5 points per game. His performance was complemented by his contributions of 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists over 35 games, showcasing his all-around abilities on the court.

This historic choice, made at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, marks a milestone for BYU as Dybantsa becomes the first player from the university to be drafted first overall in the NBA.

Interviewed by ESPN’s Lisa Salters and flanked by his sisters, Dybantsa expressed what this moment means to him by saying, “It just means a lot. I have a lot more work to do,” emphasizing his dedication and strong work ethic, which have brought him this far.

Joining forces in Washington with established stars such as Trae Young and Anthony Davis, Dybantsa becomes a key part of the Wizards’ strategy to end their championship drought dating back to 1978. The franchise is hopeful that this combination of talents will propel them back into the NBA’s spotlight in the near future.

The Wizards finished last season with a 17-65 record – their worst in decades – and have not made the playoffs since 2021. But with Young having signed a four-year, $212 million extension just 24 hours before the draft, and Davis committed to the franchise, there is genuine belief in Washington that a playoff push is not far away.

Young himself said recently: ‘Imagine the Wizards as the No.1 team in the East next year. Trust me, I’m probably just entering my prime.’

Dybantsa, who is also a three-time gold medallist with USA Basketball, gives that project a potential superstar to build around for the next decade.

At 6ft 9in with a seven-foot wingspan and a scorer’s instinct that scouts have likened to Tracy McGrady, Dybantsa is the kind of talent that can invigorate a franchise.

While Dybantsa was the favourite to go first, he was not without competition. Kansas guard Darryn Peterson was considered by some to be the superior prospect.

Peterson’s camp had expressed confidence in his chances of going number one right up until draft night, with the 247Sports top-ranked high school recruit in the country ultimately having to settle for second pick.

And, holding the second pick, the Utah Jazz opted for Peterson. The 6ft 4in guard averaged 20.2 points at Kansas, though injury and illness limited him to 24 of a possible 35 games during his freshman season.

The Memphis Grizzlies, picking third, took Duke forward Cameron Boozer – son of former NBA star Carlos Boozer. The 6ft 8in freshman averaged 22.5 points and 10.2 rebounds at Duke, earning AP National Player of the Year honours.

The Chicago Bulls rounded out the top four by selecting North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson with the fourth pick. The 6ft 8in freshman is one of the most athletic players in this year’s Draft class, though his college season was cut short by injury.

The Los Angeles Clippers took Georgia Tech guard Keaton Wagler with the fifth pick.

A crafty scorer with a strong feel for the game, Wagler was the overwhelming favourite for the Clippers’ selection throughout the pre-draft process.

The Brooklyn Nets followed by selecting Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. sixth. The 6ft 5in combo guard had surged up draft boards in the weeks leading up to the draft.

The Sacramento Kings then selected one of the most dynamic offensive guards in the class, taking Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. with the seventh pick.

Acuff averaged 23.5 points and 6.4 assists at Arkansas and was widely regarded as the best pure scoring point guard available.

The Atlanta Hawks then took Houston guard Kingston Flemings eighth – a sharp shooter who impressed at the draft combine with top-notch agility scores.

With the ninth pick, the Dallas Mavericks selected Michigan centre Morez Johnson Jr. – a surprise selection at this stage, with Johnson having been projected by most analysts to fall into the mid-to-late lottery.

The Milwaukee Bucks rounded out the top ten by taking Arizona guard Brayden Burries – a two-way guard who shot 39 per cent from three at Arizona.

The Dominican Republic international was a key part of Michigan’s run to the national championship this season and brings major versatility to Golden State’s frontcourt.

The Oklahoma City Thunder rounded out the 12th pick by selecting Michigan centre Aday Mara. The 7ft 3in Spaniard is one of the most imposing physical presences in the class and gives OKC another intriguing young big man to develop.

It also proved to be a historic night for national champions Michigan. The Wolverines had never had more than one player selected in the lottery – on Tuesday night they had three, with Morez Johnson Jr., Lendeborg and Mara all going in the top 12.

Croatia Triumphs Over Panama, Ghana Stuns England, and Ronaldo Sets a New Scoring Milestone

0

The World Cup action on Wednesday morning AEST delivered a rollercoaster of emotions with a tense, scoreless opening half, an outstanding record-breaking display from a legendary player, and a frustrating standoff between England and Ghana.

Both teams urgently sought crucial points after Tuesday’s 0-0 stalemate between England and Ghana left the loser with slim hopes of advancing to the knockout phase.

Croatia secured a pivotal victory against Panama with a second-half goal, triumphing 1-0 in a decisive Group L matchup that dashed the South American team’s tournament aspirations.

Having reached the semifinals in both the 2018 and 2022 competitions, Croatia was eager to recover from their 4-2 defeat to England in Dallas during their first Group L encounter.

Ultimately, Ante Budimir’s crucial goal in the 54th minute was sufficient to overcome the resilient effort from the Central American squad.

Croatia’s most celebrated player, Luka Modric, was making his 200th international appearance, but his early headed effort on goal sailed over the bar.

Under Danish-born coach Thomas Christiansen, Panama have implemented a tight defensive structure that helped them secure their second-ever World Cup appearance.

But it was the Panamanian offence that almost made the difference in the first half.

In the 23rd minute Jose Luis Rodriguez guided a header towards goal but the outstretched fingertips of Croatian ‘keeper Dominik Livakovic redirected the ball off the bar.

The second half marked a clear momentum shift and the capacity crowd of 43,000 in Toronto with a strong Croatian majority erupted when Budimir tapped in a cross from Josip Stanisic.

1782265169753-e16efb01-5d32-4f04-b36d-2e2ab1004df8-upcoming-Panama-Croatia.png

Croatia should have been two up minutes later, when a perfectly weighted pass from Modric sent Marco Pasalic alone speeding towards goal.

Pasalic’s first effort was stopped by keeper Orlando Mosquera and although the rebound came back to him he blasted an off-balance second attempt well over the bar.

Panama kept pressing for the equalizer but they ultimately failed to find the net, extending their World Cup goalless streak.

They face England in what will be their final match of the tournament on Friday.

Croatia have three points and will face Ghana, who moved onto four points after holding England to a goalless draw earlier, for a place in the final 32.

Deep, deep, deep defence by Ghana

Panama’s loss followed a frustrated match between England and Ghana, which left the fourth-ranked Three Lions with a doughnut next their name in a stand off at Boston Stadium.

England were left frustrated in their bid to join the likes of France, Argentina and Germany in the last 32 after failing to break down Ghana in a goalless Group L stalemate at Foxborough outside Boston.

They had launched their campaign last week with a stylish 4-2 win over Croatia, with their relentless attacking play sweeping aside the 2018 World Cup finalists.

But their attack was thwarted by a defensive Ghana, who pulled off a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening match. The side made their intentions clear right from the kickoff as they lined up to blunt England’s attacking style.

In constant drizzle, the Three Lions had almost 80 per cent possession in the first half but were limited to half-chances as Ghana players swarmed around England captain Harry Kane and anyone else on the few occasions they got into dangerous positions.

The opening 45 minutes were the first in any game at this World Cup in which neither side had a shot on target and one of the biggest cheers was for the sight of former England captain David Beckham watching the game in a suit and shown on the giant screens at the stadium.

England were unable to find the invention needed to break through, creating hardly any chances that seriously troubled the Black Stars.

England assistant coach Anthony Barry said at halftime that Ghana were defending “deep, deep, deep, probably deeper than we expected”.

England were also fortunate to escape what looked like a strong penalty claim from Ghana in the 79th minute when Ezri Konsa bundled over substitute Prince Adu in the box.

A toothless England performance was summed up in the final minutes, when England captain Harry Kane blasted over the bar from point-blank range with the goal gaping.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz praised his team for sticking to his strategy for frustrating England.

“I am so proud, the way our players they fought during the game, how much they stand behind the game plan,” he said.

The result represented the fourth time in a row at major competitions, two European Championships and now two World Cups, that England have drawn their second group game.

The result leaves England and Ghana level on four points with Croatia and Panama due to play later on Wednesday.

Ronaldo: ‘I’m back’

In the early hours of Wednesday morning AEST an under-fire Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo silenced his critics as he became the first man to score in six different World Cup, proving once again this World Cup has been a showcase for some of the sport’s greatest players.

A joyous Ronaldo was mobbed by team-mates as he celebrated his emphatic opening goal in a 5-0 rout of Uzbekistan in their Group K matHouston early on Wedneday (AEST).

It was a big moment for the superstar striker who had failed to score in 10 consecutive matches at major tournaments.

Ronaldo scored a double in the big win, shouting “I’m back, I’m back” into the television cameras.

Ronaldo’s record followed fellow superstar Lionel Messi’s own milestone yesterday, when he became the World Cup’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Ronaldo, 41, came into this morning’s game still stinging from sharp criticism following an underwhelming performance in Portugal’s opening 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo, but by minute six the concern melted away when he scored the game’s first goal.

He added a second on 39 minutes to give Portugal a 3-0 lead after Nuno Mendes had put Roberto Martinez’s side 2-0 up in the 17th minute with a well-taken free kick.

Portugal let loose in the second half with two more goals, including a spectacular Rafael Leão strike, to complete the rout.

The victory leaves Portugal firmly on course to qualify for the last 32 from Group K, where Colombia face DR Congo later on Wednesday.

Speaking after the match, Ronaldo said that, while he was happy to break records, the most important thing for him was the team’s improvement and the confidence the players showed after a frustrating first match.

“The team performed really well and improved a lot,” he said. “As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining. Obviously, speaking personally, records are always nice but my goal is always to help the national team achieve its objectives.”

Portugese coach Martinez told reporters his side had made the most of their disappointing first game.

“There are times when you need a game like the first one in order to grow in the tournament,” he said.

“Today we saw a team with the same attitude and commitment, but with greater maturity because it was no longer the opening match.”

Chicago Bulls Make Bold Moves in 2026 NBA Draft: Caleb Wilson Taken at No. 4, Dailyn Swain at No. 15

CHICAGO (WLS) — Basketball fans turned their eyes to New York City on Tuesday night as the eagerly anticipated NBA Draft got underway.

The Chicago Bulls are making significant moves to kickstart their rebuilding process, armed with two valuable First Round picks. This year, they have placed their bets on Caleb Wilson from Carolina and Dailyn Swain from Texas.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Wilson, a big man with an impressive pedigree, was the Bulls’ fourth overall pick. The team has had its sights set on him for some time, evident by the fact that his only pre-draft consultation was with the Bulls and their new Head Coach Tiago Splitter last week. It appears Chicago was the perfect fit for Wilson all along.

Their strategic choices continued as the Bulls went back on the clock for the 15th overall selection, adding Swain to their roster.

This draft was also a revealing moment for Bulls fans who are just getting accustomed to the strategic decisions of Bryson Graham, the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, along with Coach Splitter. Tuesday night shed light on the new leadership’s vision for the team’s future.

The draft comes after Graham made his first trade as vice president, acquiring center Nic Claxton from Brooklyn on Monday night as part of a three-team trade that brings a starter at a good price, which is a strong start.

There is no question that they need players who can make an impact, and with two picks in the top 15, starting at fourth overall, that seemed inevitable.

And as the stage was set at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, buzz continued around the Bucks’ trade of Giannis Atentakumpo to Miami late Monday night.

The move altered competition in the division, but not mock draft speculation, where the Bulls were said to be among the many with high interest in Duke’s Cam Boozer, the son of former Bull Carlos Boozer.

But Memphis ended up taking Boozer with their third overall overall pick.

The Second Round of the NBA draft begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

UFC’s Josh Hokit Clarifies His Remarks About Michelle Obama as Flattering

0

UFC heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit finds himself at the center of a storm following a controversial remark that cast a shadow over his triumph at UFC Freedom 250, held on the iconic White House lawn.

During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Hokit staunchly defended the post-fight comment that many perceived as disparaging toward former First Lady Michelle Obama. Hokit, however, maintains that he intended no offense.

“I thought I was giving her a compliment,” Hokit asserted, hoping to clarify his intentions.

Host Ariel Helwani pressed further, questioning how Hokit could perceive his words as complimentary. The explanation that followed seemed only to fan the flames of the controversy.

“Michelle Obama being a man, that’s like, she knows how to deal with adversity. She knows how to work hard like a man when the times get tough,” Hokit elaborated, attempting to redefine his comment as one of respect for her resilience and work ethic.

The remark stems from Hokit’s June 14 victory over Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250, where he closed his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan by declaring, “Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”

The comment immediately generated backlash, including criticism from UFC CEO Dana White.

White told the Los Angeles Times he is “completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” adding, “Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.”

Hokit, however, said he viewed the moment as an opportunity to make a statement about free speech.

“I thought it was a perfect opportunity to show the world how great this country is with the freedom of speech,” he said.

Asked whether he regretted the comment, Hokit made it clear he has no plans to apologize.

“That’s one thing about my career,” Hokit said. “You’ll never hear me backtrack from what I say.”

Despite the criticism, Hokit remains one of the UFC’s fastest-rising heavyweight contenders, improving to 4-0 in the promotion with his win over Lewis.
