Scorched Texts: Woman Allegedly Sets Ex’s Barn Ablaze in Fiery Breakup Revenge

Inset: Donna Jo Franklin (Door County Jail). Background: The area near where Franklin allegedly set a barn on fire in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (Google Maps).

In a recent incident in Wisconsin, a woman has been taken into custody for allegedly torching her former partner’s barn, as reported by local authorities in the state known as the Badger State.

Donna Jo Franklin, aged 59, faces charges of arson for burning a building without the owner’s permission. The charges carry an enhanced penalty due to the victim’s elderly status, according to Door County court documents examined by Law&Crime.

The incident unfolded on June 10, along North 8th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, a quaint town situated about 45 miles northeast of Green Bay.

Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, arrived on the scene shortly before 9 p.m. Following a probe by fire officials, the blaze was deemed “suspicious,” as noted in a statement released by the local police department.

The police department’s statement clarified, “There were no animals in the barn, and the property was unoccupied at the time.” They further detailed that units found the barn fully ablaze upon arrival.

On Monday, Franklin was arrested and charged, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Green Bay-based CBS affiliate WFRV.

Investigators say the defendant confessed — but only after offering several other narratives about what happened that day.

On the night of the fire, the barn owner was asked who might have been responsible, police said. He explained how he had electrical work done last winter — before mentioning that he and his girlfriend had recently broken up, according to the complaint.

The barn owner allegedly said Franklin originally planned to move out on June 14, but she left on June 6 after removing nearly all of the supplies and food. The man said he had told her to take whatever she wanted because most of it belonged to her anyway, police said.

When first interviewed by law enforcement, Franklin feigned ignorance, police claim. Instead, she said she enjoyed spending time at the barn while looking at nature, according to the complaint.

When quizzed about her movements that particular day, she allegedly said she worked there the first half of the day, went home, then went to a bingo night, and ended the night at Culver’s restaurant — a Midwestern chain known for burgers and frozen custard.

Later, law enforcement met with fire investigators and learned the fire started on the north side of the barn. This raised red flags because that side of the barn had no electrical boxes, police said.

On June 15, Franklin met with investigators again. This time, she allegedly began by saying, “I wanna know what you have already.”

Then came the second version of her story, according to the complaint. This time, the defendant allegedly said she only visited the property on the day of the inferno so she could borrow an extension cord and estimated she was only there for about five minutes.

The woman allegedly went on to insist she would never intentionally damage the property because she invested her own “blood and sweat” in it. Franklin said she and the victim had, at one point, intended to turn the property into their residence, police said.

After those alleged protestations, an investigator asked Franklin about something she threw away at Culver’s, the complaint says.

The defendant first said she had simply thrown away a napkin and tissue — but this version of events did not last long, police claim.

“You can charge me now, because you know what it was,” Franklin allegedly said after being repeatedly questioned on the issue. At one point, the defendant allegedly added: “Just arrest me.”

Finally, the full confession came out, police said.

Franklin admittedly threw away a red “flicker” she had used to set insulation paper alight while she was at the barn that day, according to the complaint. And, she allegedly said, once the fire spread, she went to Culver’s, where she threw the flicker away.

The defendant went on to explain that she only moved out and broke up with the victim after she found text messages to another woman on his cellphone, police said. This revelation destroyed the “dream” of the barn, Franklin allegedly told investigators.

Once the pair broke up, the defendant said, she realized the dream was no longer hers, that she did not want the owner to share the dream with another woman, and that if she could not have the dream, then another woman was not going to get the dream either.

Chaos Ensues at Town Meeting as Defiant Lawmakers Reject Vote Outcome and Refuse to Vacate

An assembly in a California town descended into utter disorder, characterized by shouting and allegations of racial bias, when officials ousted from office refused to vacate their roles.

In Avenal, located roughly 200 miles south of San Francisco, an April special election led to the successful recall of Mayor Alvaro Preciado and council members Leticia Gamez, David Reynosa, and Pablo Hernandez.

Nevertheless, the mayor and nearly the entire city council, with the exception of one member, have defiantly remained in their positions.

During their regular Thursday meeting, tensions boiled over as local residents, in an intense session lasting nearly an hour, angrily insisted that they step down.

Longtime Avenal resident Tom Chastine, who has lived there since age 18, harshly criticized the officials, labeling them as ‘clowns’ in a fiery diatribe.

‘I know my constitutional rights, and you can’t tell me anything because you’re not the mayor. Do you understand that part?’ he said, according to video of the meeting.

He then added: ‘Or you need somebody to translate for you into Spanish, so you understand?’

Chastine previously told the press that, if it was his decision, he would ‘drag them out of here,’ the Fresno Bee reported.

Chastine called for the officials to ‘relocate’ and alluded to the ‘burritos in prison or jail.’

‘You guys sit here like you guys own this town,’ he said. ‘You don’t. We put you in office.’

He was almost forcibly removed from the event by police after his outburst, according to the outlet.

Preciado, the mayor, previously said the issue was a civil matter, rather than a criminal case.

‘If I get arrested today, so what? Let it be, but it’s going to set a precedent about who’s got authority and who doesn’t,’ he said, according to the Fresno Bee.

During another tense moment, Avenal resident Keith Jackson said that the lawmakers did not have ‘any respect for us’ and that they needed to get up and walk out.

‘Looking at you folks here today that are voted out is very disgusting,’ he said.

Jackson then took aim at Avenal Deputy City Clerk Karla Curiel, who was not recalled.

‘Mrs. Curiel, we want to continue this meeting, go ahead, because they don’t make your mom’s green enchiladas in jail,’ Jackson said.

‘Maybe you can help them give them the recipe,’ he added.

In the April 28 special election, more than 75 percent of voters agreed to recall the mayor and the councilmembers.

The recall effort started after the council voted to create its own fire department.

Kings County, where Avenal is, officially certified the results in May.

Kelly Guzman, who said she had lived in Avenal since 1960, told the city officials during the meeting that ‘numbers don’t lie.’

‘We legally voted you out with more votes than voted you in,’ Guzman said. ‘You guys need to recognize the vote and step down.’

She accused the officials of ‘breaking our civil rights’ and accused them of ‘doing similar behaviors’ to President Donald Trump.

Posting clips from the meeting, the city of Avenal said Saturday that it condemned ‘threats of violence, intimidation, racist remarks, and disparaging comments’ at public officials, city staff and community members.

Authorities specifically pointed to a Facebook group that had supposedly ‘become a platform for personal attacks, defamatory accusations, hateful commentary, and targeted harassment’ towards city officials and their families.

The city also posted photos that had been apparently uploaded onto said group, which featured the mayor’s altered likeness with a growing nose, for instance.

‘Legal disputes are resolved in courtrooms,’ the statement read. ‘Threats and intimidation have no place in our community.’

They claimed that recent council meetings had included racist remarks, disparaging comments and ‘an atmosphere of hostility and fear.’

Reports of threats of physical violence issued against city officials were also being reviewed.

The recalled lawmakers have insisted that only the city, rather than the Kings County, has the authority to call a special election.

Sarah Hacker, the county district attorney, and Sheriff Dave Putnam sent a cease-and-desist letter on June 5, which claimed that the lawmakers were remaining in office unlawfully, according to SFGATE.

The sole exception was Councilmember Ricardo Verdugo, who was not recalled.

Verdugo read a statement before last week’s meeting started in which he said he believed the recall was legitimate, according to FOX 26 News.

He called for the other city officials to step down in wake of the recall vote.

‘It’s not a legitimate closed session. Those individuals in there are not elected officials no more,’ Verdugo said, per the Fresno Bee.

The cease and desist also claimed that the officials were prohibited from using any public funds.

However, Avenal is currently in an ongoing legal dispute with Kings County about the legitimacy of the election, per the outlet.

It was unclear how the city could sue the county with the councilmembers under a cease and desist order to not spend any public funds.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Preciado, Gamez, Reynosa and Hernandez for comment.

FIFA World Cup 2026: June 18th’s Thrilling Matches and Key Highlights Revealed

0

In brief

  • England beat Croatia 4-2 in their World Cup opener in Arlington, Texas.
  • Uzbekistan is facing Colombia in the final match of the day in Mexico City.

In a thrilling World Cup match held in Toronto on a chilly evening, Ghana edged out Panama with a dramatic 1-0 win on Thursday, AEST.

Caleb Yirenkyi became the hero of the night by netting the decisive goal deep into stoppage time, igniting wild celebrations among the Ghanaian supporters who had gathered in Canada’s largest city. Until that point, the game had been a gritty contest.

In the opening half, neither team managed to create significant scoring opportunities. Panama’s striker, Cecilio Waterman, came close early on with a shot in the second minute, but Ghana’s goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi, made a crucial save to deny him.

Throughout the first half, the Black Stars failed to register any shot on target.

As the match progressed into the second half, the rain began to fall steadily over Toronto Stadium, creating a more dynamic and attacking display from both teams.

Cristian Martinez triggered a massive roar from the loud Panamanian contingent when he lashed a shot into the side-netting in the 60th minute.

But the match looked headed for a scoreless draw until Yirenkyi put the Black Stars ahead.

Ghana’s veteran coach Carlos Queiroz turned to his side’s fans after the goal, urging them on in celebration.

Queiroz only took charge of the Black Stars a couple of months before the start of the tournament.

Thursday’s fixture made him only the second coach to appear in five consecutive World Cups, after leading Portugal in 2010 and Iran in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Loud boos rang out across the crowd of nearly 43,000 during the second-half hydration break under pouring rain.

Ghana triumphed despite being without Villarreal midfielder Thomas Partey, who is facing trial on rape charges in Britain. Canadian authorities denied him a World Cup visa over the case.

Harry Kane steers England to 4-2 victory over Croatia

A brace from Harry Kane saw England begin their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia on Thursday morning AEST.

The English captain gave his team the lead twice in the first half — the first goal from a retaken penalty — but Croatia fought back on both occasions, with goals from Martin Baturina and Peter Petar Musa ensuring the score was level at half-time.

The penalty was given after Croatia’s captain, Luka Modric, dangled a leg and caught Noni Madueke in the box.

Kane saw his unconvincing penalty saved by Dominik Livakovic, only for French referee Clement Turpin to order a retake after video replays deemed the stopper had come off his line.

Goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford in the second half ensured England’s win in the Group L opener before a 70,000-person crowd at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The encounter was a repeat of the 2018 World Cup semi-final, which Croatia won 2-1 after extra-time, although England have since had the edge against one of the older squads at the tournament in North America.

England are among the favourites in this World Cup after a string of near-misses at recent tournaments, but history weighs heavily on a side that last won the World Cup on home soil in 1966.

Ronaldo fails to shine as Portugal held to draw with DR Congo

Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo played in a record-equalling sixth World Cup, but his Portugal side were held to a 1-1 draw by the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Portuguese great Ronaldo, 41, equalled the record set on Wednesday by his old nemesis Lionel Messi, but he found the going tough against a resolute Congolese defence in Houston.

Joao Neves opened the scoring for Portugal in the first half, but Yoane Wissa of English Premier League club Newcastle equalised with a headed goal in first-half injury time to give the Congolese their first-ever World Cup point.

The DRC’s achievement was even greater given that their preparations have been disrupted by the Ebola outbreak in their country.

“It is a tremendous source of pride to have earned DR Congo’s first-ever point at the FIFA World Cup, as well as its first goal,” their coach, Sebastien Desabre, said.

“I am very proud of my players because they represented the Congo in a very positive way and the entire country deserves it.”

Several Portugal players, meanwhile, were wearing wrist bands in tribute to late team-mate Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car crash last year.

Ronaldo had a tough act to follow after Messi scored a spectacular hat-trick for Argentina on Tuesday to equal the all-time World Cup goalscoring record, making a mockery of his 38 years.

Ronaldo didn’t speak to reporters after the game, but posted about the match on X.

“It wasn’t the start we wanted, but this is far from over,” he wrote.

“Head up and focus on the next game.”

Kane revealed that England’s German coach Thomas Tuchel had addressed the players at half-time.

“The manager gave us a speech at half-time just to say, look, if we lose, we lose. We’re losing our way,” Kane said.

“And I think you saw that, the way we come out in the second half. We went full gas. And they couldn’t live with it.”

In the last match of the day, first-time qualifiers Uzbekistan are tackling Colombia at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City in Group K, the same group as Portugal.

Augusta Resident Faces Federal Prison Time for Unlawful Firearm Possession

AUGUSTA, Ga. – An Augusta resident has been handed down a nearly six-year federal prison sentence for charges related to illegal firearm possession, as confirmed by the United States Department of Justice on Wednesday.

Chauncey Lavon Feby, aged 20, has been sentenced to 71 months in prison and imposed with a $1,500 fine. Following his prison term, he will be subject to three years of supervised release. Feby entered a guilty plea for the charge of Illegal Possession of a Machinegun.

The incident leading to his arrest occurred in November 2024, in Richmond County. Authorities discovered that Feby possessed a Glock Model 45, a 9 mm pistol. This firearm had been illegally modified with an auto sear, a device that turns a semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic machinegun.

U.S. Attorney Margaret Heap expressed the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to curb the circulation of such dangerous weapons. “We will continue to support our law enforcement partners in their efforts to remove these dangerous weapons from the streets and to keep our communities safe,” she stated. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to holding accountable those that unlawfully possess these lethal weapons.”

Urgent Alert: LaGuardia Faces Another Runway Closure Due to Persistent Pavement Problems

0

On Wednesday, LaGuardia Airport temporarily closed one of its two main runways after inspectors detected a “depression” in the pavement near the airstrip. This marks the second instance within a month where the New York City airport has had to halt runway operations due to concerns over pavement integrity.

According to airport officials, the depression, measuring approximately two inches deep, was found adjacent to Runway 4/22, one of the airport’s key runways.

“During an airfield inspection at LaGuardia Airport, an approximately two-inch depression adjacent to Runway 4/22 was identified,” the airport confirmed in a statement.

The closure was implemented as a precautionary measure, with the airport emphasizing that the depression does not currently pose an immediate safety threat. This decision reflects an “abundance of caution” as they work to resolve the issue.

Arrivals at LaGuardia are currently delayed by an average of 48 minutes but are decreasing, according to FlightAware flight-tracking data. ABC 7 previously reported 174 delays earlier Wednesday, citing the platform.

Runway 4/22 is scheduled to close at 5 p.m. and is expected to remain shut until Thursday morning as repair crews work overnight to conduct additional testing, identify the cause of the issue and perform any necessary stabilization work.

“Our goal is to complete the assessment and any necessary repair work overnight and return the runway to service as soon as it is safe to do so,” the airport said.

MLB Announces Exciting New Rule Changes for 2024 Home Run Derby: What Fans Need to Know

0

Big changes are on the way for the Home Run Derby, one of Major League Baseball’s most anticipated All-Star week events. According to a report by The Athletic on Wednesday, the Derby is set to abandon the timed format in favor of a fixed number of swings.

In this revamped format, participants will take 20 swings in the first round. The number of swings decreases to 15 for both the second and third rounds, adding an extra layer of strategy to the competition.

Adding a thrilling twist, batters who hit a home run on their final swing of any round will continue to bat until they fail to hit a homer.

For instance, if a player hits a home run on their 20th swing during the first round, they can keep swinging until they miss, potentially racking up additional home runs.

For example, if a player hits a homer on the 20th swing of the first round, they keep taking swings until they record an out.

The top four finishers of the eight-player pool from the first round will advance to the second round, where the top first-round finisher will face the player with the fewest homers in the first round.

The second and third seeds also will face off to decide the championship matchup.

One of the biggest reasons for the change, according to The Athletic, was the new viewing experience for fans. This year’s derby will be the first on Netflix, and the streamer’s personnel asked for feedback from MLB and players for ways to improve the competition.

With the previous structure utilizing a timer, players said they would get tired trying to take as many swings as possible before the clock expired. Players will now have the ability to build drama and anticipation between swings.

The Home Run Derby has undergone several rule and format changes since the event’s introduction in 1985. From that year through 2014, the competition used some form of an outs-based system. In 2015 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, MLB introduced the clock to great fanfare.

Fans will see the newest setup in action in the 2026 Home Run Derby, scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern on July 13 at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.

None of the eight participants has been announced, though Yankees slugger Ben Rice said this week that he “would love” to be part of the homer show.

Tragic Accident in Central Park: Teenager Fatally Injured in Horse Carriage Fall

0

NEW YORK (AP) — A tragic incident unfolded in Central Park on Wednesday when a runaway carriage horse caused a teenager to be thrown to the ground. The young individual has since succumbed to injuries, as reported by the police.

The unfortunate event occurred around 3 p.m., involving an 18-year-old and three others who were passengers in the carriage. As the horse raced uncontrollably, at least two of the riders were ejected from the vehicle, according to the New York Police Department.

Initially, the teenager was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while the other passengers opted against seeking medical attention.

The Transport Workers Union, representing carriage industry workers, disclosed that the driver had stepped away from the carriage to take a photo of the passengers, an action that is against protocol.

Alexander Kemp, the administrative vice president of the union’s local branch, noted that the horse had only been working in the park for six weeks. He is advocating for a thorough investigation into the incident.

“Safety in the park has been a growing concern among many, and improvements are needed to be made with respect to all vehicles, including e-bicycles, delivery vehicles, pedicabs, and horse-drawn carriages,” he said in a statement.

Video showed the horse sprinting through the park as two people appeared to jump from the four-wheeled carriage. A second video shows the cab toppling over after clipping the wheels of another carriage on the park’s busy loop.

It’s a fraught moment for Central Park’s 150-year-old horse-drawn carriage industry. The industry has long been seen as a quaint attraction that offers tourists a romantic remnant of a bygone New York, while providing hundreds of jobs to drivers, along with many farm and racing horses. But they are now facing the growing threat of a ban from opponents who say the rides are both inhumane to horses and a danger to city residents.

Wednesday’s event follows several recent horse-related problems in the park, including the fatal collapse of a horse last week.

The Central Park Conservancy, the nonprofit which operates the park and came out last summer in support of banning horse-drawn carriages, said the back-to-back events should bring an end to the industry.

“A young man came to enjoy our park and lost his life,” the group said in a statement. “That is not an acceptable cost of an antiquated industry operating in the middle of one of the most heavily used public spaces in America.”

Central Park is nearly 850 acres and attracts millions of people every year.

Michelle Obama Focuses on Honoring Her Late Mother, Dismissing UFC Fighter’s Remarks

0

On Tuesday, Michelle Obama honored her late mother, Marian Robinson, at a key event for her husband’s $850 million presidential library in Chicago.

Known for their close bond, Michelle and her mother shared years together in the White House, where Robinson played a vital role in helping to raise Sasha and Malia during the Obama administration.

Robinson passed away in May 2024 at 86. The family simply mentioned that she died peacefully, choosing not to reveal further details about her passing.

At the event, Michelle, now 62, took to the stage at the Barack Obama Presidential Center, donning a pencil skirt adorned with a sepia-toned photograph of her mother.

Despite swirling rumors about their marriage, Barack Obama showed affection by holding Michelle’s hand and kissing her cheek on stage. This public display came just a day before their first joint TV interview in ten years was set to air on Good Morning America.

Neither of them has yet addressed the viral moment UFC fighter Josh Hokit bellowed: ‘Michelle Obama is a man!’ during Donald Trump’s White House birthday event.

Held this past Sunday and entitled Freedom 250, the UFC extravaganza saw Hokit triumph over Derrick Lewis on the White House’s South Lawn.

During a post-match interview with a grinning Joe Rogan, Hokit praised Trump ‘for having the b***s to put this s**t on,’ then after a few other remarks roared: ‘And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?’

His slur against the former First Lady drew a mixture of whoops and jeers from the live audience, while Trump discreetly took off the Josh Hokit chain he had been wearing around his neck, in footage obtained by TMZ.

As a roiling furor erupted online, Hokit doubled down, while UFC CEO Dana White sharply criticized his remarks in an interview with Time magazine.

‘I understand that the Obamas are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,’ said White. ‘Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.’

Meanwhile, the Obamas’ appearance at the 44th president’s library unfolded against the backdrop of a fresh controversy as contractors say they still haven’t been paid just days before its grand opening.

African American Contractors Association president Omar Shareef said seven workers contacted him to complaint about missed payments, Front Page Mag reports.

‘It’s to the point that they wished they had never done [the project],’ Shareef told the outlet.

Some subcontractors are missing as much as seven figures in payment, and many are feeling the pressure of keeping their businesses afloat.

The 225-foot tall library dubbed the ‘Obamalisk’ is also facing backlash from critics who have branded its design ‘anti-Christian.’

What do you think the Obama Presidential Center truly symbolizes for America today?

Pastor and author Todd Friel said the center’s design is an ‘intentional slight to God.’

The library is due to open with live performances, activities, food and art on Friday and is several hundred million dollars over its initial $300 million budget.

Much of the delay and rise in cost was pinned on the pandemic, but the ongoing spat with contractors has been largely public for many months.

A $40 million federal lawsuit emerged between Thornton Tomasetti and one of the subcontractors involved in the project, as Tomasetti was accused of making false claims and racial discrimination, the Real Deal reported.

Lakeside Alliance, the general contractor for Obama’s library, said tensions such as these are normal due to the size and number of moving parts involved in the project.

In a statement to the Real Deal, Lakeside Alliance said that the Obama Center’s ‘contractual closeout – including the review and resolution of outstanding invoices, change orders and other project matters – continues long after the doors open.’

According to Fox News, Illinois GOP Chair Robert Grogan said: ‘One of their core promises was they were supposed to create an endowment as basically an insurance policy so the taxpayers wouldn’t get stuck with the bill.’

‘They promised hundreds of millions of dollars for it. It’s still sitting at the $1 million mark [where it stood] when they opened it up. So I don’t believe that they’ve kept that promise.

However, the library has not only faced backlash over subcontractors legal disputes but it has been the center of criticism from a right-wing pastor.

Todd Friel, a pastor for Alpharetta Bible Church in Georgia who also hosts the show Wretched, slammed the library last week for its ‘anti-Christian’ concrete exterior.

Friel described the design, dubbed ‘Obamalisk,’ as ‘downright ugly’ and noted comparisons to a Klingon prison or the Death Star from Star Wars.

‘It looks like a World War II-era German anti-aircraft tower,’ he said on his June 9 show.

‘It belongs in the Hunger Games. It was designed by Minecraft. In other words, the thing is downright ugly.’

Friel went on to say that the design, which was reportedly influenced by Obama himself, emulates ‘anti-Christian’ aesthetics.

‘His new presidential center, I think, can be described as atheistic, anti-Christian, Marxist, and just another effort from Barack Obama to do what he’s been endeavoring to do now since he was nominated president, and that is to fundamentally change America,’ Friel said.

The pastor also claimed that he believes the building to be a ‘tangible symbol’ of the former president’s ‘utterly destructive worldviews’ and an ‘intentional slight to God.’

‘You don’t walk into a building and decide what it means; the building decides what it wants you to feel about reality,’ he continued.

‘Why? Because buildings preach, and the Obama Center is a really lousy sermon.’

Friel noted several architectural philosophies, including the tradition rooted in Greco-Roman ideals which were Christianized later to allegedly reflect truth and beauty.

He went on to note that deconstructivism, which draws from postmodern ideals and rejects those notions. The concept in architecture emerged largely in the 1980s, and was seen to break away from traditional notions of order and symmetry, instead looking to represent the unpredictable nature of modern life.

Deconstructivism was influenced by the philosophy of deconstruction, which suggests meaning and knowledge are not fixed but open to interpretation.

Friel argued that Obama’s design aligned with deconstructivism, which he described as ‘atheistic with a healthy heaping of post-modernism’ and tied to Marxist ideology.

‘Traditional architecture affirmed order. Deconstructivism destabilizes it,’ Friel said.

‘He doesn’t speak with his lips. He speaks with architecture. And what he is saying is as odious as ever.’

The pastor went on to argue that Obama’s library was a visual representation of, ‘I hate this America. I hate tradition. And I reject God’s ordering of reality.’

Breaking News: Key Witness Gains Limited Immunity in High-Profile Charlie Kirk Case Involving Trans Partner

The transgender partner of the individual accused of killing Charlie Kirk has received limited immunity, according to recent court documents. This development has been highlighted in a new filing that came to light this week.

Lane Twiggs, who lived with and was romantically involved with Tyler Robinson, has been granted ‘use-immunity’ for a statement he provided to authorities on April 20. This information was detailed in a filing reviewed by Fox News on Tuesday.

Prosecutors intend to present Twiggs’ recorded statement, alongside his communications with Robinson around the time of Kirk’s tragic death, during the preliminary hearing set for July 6, the report indicated.

The immunity provided means that any information Twiggs shared with the authorities after Kirk’s death cannot be used against him in court, as stated by prosecutors in the document.

Charlie Kirk, aged 31, was shot and killed on September 10 while addressing attendees at a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event held at Utah Valley University.

Robinson, 22, turned himself in to the authorities the following day after his parents recognized his picture in the news and persuaded him to peacefully surrender.

The FBI soon uncovered that Robinson had sent a flurry of text messages to Twiggs during his 33 hours on the run, disclosing his alleged involvement in the shooting and his efforts to evade capture.

Twiggs has never been charged or implicated in the shooting.

He did not tip off authorities at the time, but did agree to cooperate when they sought him out in the wake of his roommates’ arrest.

Twiggs went into hiding after his live-in boyfriend was unmasked as the alleged gunman who shot Kirk while he debated transgender issues at the school.

His sudden disappearance from their apartment in St George fueled skepticism over what, if anything, Twiggs knew in advance of Robinson’s alleged plot to snuff out one of the nation’s leading conservative voices.

Exclusive pictures snapped by the Daily Mail in February showed Twiggs finally emerging from hiding, but living a completely different life.

He has since moved thousands of miles away to Texas after reconciling with his strict Mormon family, with whom he now lives.

Sources said he spends his days gaming online and reading fantasy novels, occasionally venturing out to grab takeout or run errands for his parents, Tyler and Amy.

He was seen carrying clothes, sneakers, and a stack of books into his new four-bedroom home in an unassuming suburban neighborhood.

Twiggs paired his androgynous, shoulder-length locks with a baseball cap, blouson jacket, jeans, and a retro Taco Bell T-shirt.

When the Daily Mail caught up with Twiggs at a nearby gas station, he scowled at our reporter and then refused to answer questions about his links to Robinson, who could face death by firing squad if convicted of murdering Kirk.

We asked him if he had any inkling that his furry fetishist beau was planning to kill Kirk, or if he had any words of comfort for widowed Erika Kirk, 37, and their two children.

‘No, no, no,’ Twiggs repeated nervously. ‘I cannot answer any questions.’

As his trial nears, Robinson has enlisted a legal team to focus on helping him avoid a guilty verdict and, in turn, a death sentence.

Much of that task hinges on a little-known kind of ‘mercy investigator’ who only works on capital cases, the Daily Mail reported last week.

Mitigation specialists, as they’re known, work behind the scenes gathering facts about their clients’ lives in a bid to convince juries to spare them from death sentences and choose life imprisonment instead.

In Robinson’s case – the highest profile assassination of our time – his team started combing for that evidence shortly after his arrest last fall and is expected to continue doing so for at least another year before a jury is even seated.

Their research likely involves constructing his detailed life history, documenting his mental health and digging up past abuse or traumas, researching his family dynamics and relationships with friends and lovers, and showing how growing up online and playing video games may have damaged his brain.

Tyler has spent the last nine months in a Provo jail with little to no contact with other inmates.

His main interactions are with members of his legal team, a psychological evaluator, and corrections officers who deliver meal trays to his cell, sources told the Daily Mail.

At his preliminary hearing, prosecutors are expected to detail Robinson’s apparent confession to his father and text messages to Twiggs, stating ‘It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.’

Among the other evidence against him is  DNA found on a rifle left at the crime scene and a note found on his keyboard reading, ‘I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.’
