Ex-Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Pushes Bears to Intensify Stadium Negotiations, Comments on Knicks Game Appearance

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — Rahm Emanuel, the former mayor of Chicago and a past U.S. ambassador to Japan, has expressed his belief that the Chicago Bears are keen to remain in Illinois. However, he emphasized that the team must adopt a more focused approach if they wish to successfully negotiate a new stadium deal, as the ongoing saga continues to unfold.

During an exclusive discussion with ABC7 Chicago, Emanuel stressed the importance of the Bears clearly identifying their priorities and working closely with high-ranking political figures to secure an agreement that would keep the team anchored in the state.

“Cities and states offering financial incentives to billionaires are, in my opinion, making a mistake,” Emanuel remarked.

With the Bears pursuing tax incentives to construct a new facility in Arlington Heights, Emanuel underscored the necessity of transparency and collaboration.

“Once priorities are established, gather everyone together, stop procrastinating, and determine if you can fulfill that commitment,” he advised.

Questions have also been raised about whether the Bears are using the possibility of a move to Hammond, Indiana, as leverage. Emanuel said he does not believe the team wants to leave the Chicago area.

“I think they know where their fan base is; they know where their future is. And they know what would happen if they did. So, therefore, I don’t think they want to go,” he said.

Emanuel also addressed why Chicago is not hosting any World Cup matches as games get underway. He said FIFA was to blame, citing negotiations that took place in 2018 while he was mayor.

“I believed this was a boondoggle for the taxpayers; that’s why I said no,” Emanuel said.

He said FIFA wanted the city and taxpayers to shoulder all the financial risk while the organization reaped the rewards.

“Because they wanted us to take us, being the city and the taxpayers, to take on all the financial risk, and they literally walk away with all the financial reward,” Emanuel said.

Emanuel said talks ultimately collapsed over contract language that would have required a dome to be built over Soldier Field.

“I said, ‘take it out.’ They said no. I said, ‘well, end of discussion then.’ I said, because you’re not leaving me with a $100 million liability on behalf of the taxpayers, not doing it now. I want to be clear. I hope the games are a success,” he said.

Emanuel also discussed his political future after recently finishing a bike ride across New Hampshire and speaking with voters. Asked how serious he is about a possible presidential run, Emanuel responded, “I am very serious.”

He said he is weighing whether he can help address what he described as broken middle-class foundations.

“Do I have what it takes to help put that foundation back on solid ground to help the next generation?” Emanuel said. “Now do I have what it takes to answer that? That’s what I’m going to decide in the next six months.”

As for his appearance court-side at a New York Knicks NBA Finals game, Emanuel said his brother, Ari Emanuel, bought the tickets and invited him. He added he would not have paid the asking price himself, amid reports that the tickets were outrageously expensive.

Intense Clashes Erupt Between Protesters and Police at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca During World Cup

0

Social tensions erupted outside Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on Thursday as violent confrontations between protesters and police marred the World Cup’s kickoff.

Demonstrators shattered car windows and engaged in skirmishes with law enforcement just as Mexico scored the tournament’s opening goal, according to a report by France24.

This unrest comes on the heels of weeks of protests that have already put plans for World Cup fan events at the Zócalo, the city’s central square, at risk.

While teachers have been at the forefront of the movement for better working conditions, other recent protestors have criticized the government for seemingly prioritizing international visitors over addressing the needs of local citizens.

This turmoil places President Claudia Sheinbaum in a challenging position, as she must navigate a domestic security crisis while preparing for crucial trade talks with the United States in July.

“Mexico wants to project an image to the world that doesn’t exactly square with reality,” said Carlos Pérez Ricart, a political analyst at the Mexican Center for Research and Economic Education.

“The World Cup is putting the president in a vulnerable situation … The government is under extreme pressure.”

Wednesday night, over 1,000 people marched toward Estadio Azteca carrying candles and photographs of their missing loved ones and the teachers’ union blocked roads.

Sheinbaum denies that the World Cup is spurring unrest.

The president said before the tournament that “if for some reason the Zócalo cannot be used for the opening, there are 18 venues where people can watch it free of charge.”

“Everything is under control,” she added.

Local officials told demonstrators that they could only advance until the “last mile” outside of the stadium.

“We just want to be seen,” said Adriana Lozano, 56, from Los Cabos, who has searched for her missing son for nine years.

“What we are looking for is peace,” she continued.

“We want this to end because so many young people are disappearing.”

Expensive ticket prices have made attendance at the World Cup unaffordable for many Mexicans, like Dr. Jose Luis Muñoz, who remains excited for the game, but will support the Mexican national team from his living room instead of the stadium.

“The prices are sky-high,”  Muñoz said.

“Many people aren’t going to be able to go unless they’re foreigners with a lot of money.”

“It feels very discriminatory.”

Trump’s Controversial Plan: Deporting Iranians to Conflict-Ridden Central Africa Sparks Global Debate

0

The Trump administration is set to deport a group of Iranian asylum-seekers, along with other migrants, to the Central African Republic (CAR) as part of a newly implemented third-country agreement, according to recent reports.

The inaugural flight under this agreement could take off as early as Thursday, with approximately 20 individuals expected to be on board.

A Reuters report indicates that the passengers on this flight include individuals from Syria, Afghanistan, and a person of Turkish nationality.

The administration has increasingly turned to these third-country deportation agreements as a legal means to deport migrants who cannot be returned to their countries of origin.

Federal authorities previously struck a similar removal deal with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The CAR is bordered by Chad to the north, Sudan and South Sudan to the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo to the south, and Cameroon to the west.

Since gaining independence from France in 1960, the CAR has seen decades of political instability including six coups and weak state authority with armed insurgencies fuelimh violence and risk of mass atrocities against civilians.

President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, re-elected to a third term in December’s election, has relied on Russia for security assistance while also showing interest in partnering with Western countries to develop the country’s critical minerals sector.

Under the new U.S. deal, hundreds of migrants could ultimately be sent to there which has triggered pushback from immigration defense lawyers.

Among those scheduled for the upcoming flight are two Iranian women who arrived in the U.S. in November 2024 and secured “withholding of removal” from a U.S. immigration judge.

According to their attorney, Emily Trostle, the two women face a risk of torture and persecution if forcibly returned to Iran. One of them is a baptized convert; the other is a democracy activist, Trostle said.

Both women were detained after arriving in the United States in November 2024, and filed asylum applications in the United States where they received protection in the form of a stay of deportation from an immigration judge, Trostle told the outlet.

The latest deal was reportedly finalized during a U.S. delegation visit to the capital city of Bangui in May, Reuters said.

Initial details regarding the total number of migrants, specific nationalities, and the long-term timing of subsequent flights were not made available at that time.

Once in the CAR, the deportees are expected to be housed in apartments in Bangui and will not face immediate repatriation.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), which received $85 million in U.S. funding this year, confirmed it will provide strictly voluntary, post-arrival humanitarian assistance to the migrants at the explicit request of the Central African government.

The agency noted it remains entirely uninvolved in the actual removals.

At least eight African nations, including Eswatini, the DRC, Ghana, and Sierra Leone, have taken in U.S. deportees, usually in exchange for financial or logistical support.

The State Department and Trostle did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Explore the Charming Filming Locations of Netflix’s ‘Sweet Magnolias’ Set in the Heart of the South

The beloved series Sweet Magnolias has made its return to Netflix with an exciting Season 5. Based on the popular book series, the show chronicles the lives of three lifelong friends as they navigate the complexities of adulthood. The main characters—Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Helen (Heather Headley), and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott)—form a tight-knit group they affectionately call the “Sweet Magnolias,” a nod to the show’s title.

While the series is primarily set in the charming town of Serenity, South Carolina, this season takes some intriguing turns as the Sweet Magnolias step beyond their familiar small-town borders. Season 4 concluded with Maddie preparing for a significant move to New York City for a new career opportunity. JoAnna Garcia Swisher shared her experiences filming in the bustling city with DECIDER, expressing her excitement about the new setting.

“We had an absolute blast,” Swisher enthused. “It was a fast-paced adventure. We had a ton to accomplish in the limited time we spent there, but it was incredibly thrilling. Sharing this experience with Brooke, Heather, and our core crew from Atlanta was surreal. Capturing our story against the backdrop of New York was an unforgettable experience.”

With the introduction of new filming locations, including a northern adventure, fans are curious about the real-life settings of Sweet Magnolias. Read on to discover more about these intriguing sites.

The series, along with the novels by Sheryl Woods, unfolds in the fictional town of Serenity, South Carolina—a quaint southern locale where everyone is familiar with each other. However, Season 5 broadens the scope as Maddie heads to New York and the trio explores Savannah, Georgia, for Helen’s bachelorette celebration. These new, real-world locations offer fans a chance to connect with tangible places beyond the show’s fictional setting.

Despite Serenity being a fictional place, the filming location is very real. The show is mainly filmed in Covington, Georgia. Located about 40 minutes outside of Atlanta, Covington is known for being a very popular filming location, where shows like Vampire Diaries and the spin-off series The Originals were also shot. The Newton County Courthouse is featured in a lot of the establishing shots and opening credits of the show, as well, per Entertainment Weekly.

In addition to Covington, the series filmed on location in both New York and Savannah. According to Netflix’s Tudum, shots of Central Park and the Grand Central Terminal can be seen in the series.

The addition of Savannah, is also not unrealistic, as South Carolina is only a couple of hours outside of Savannah. Most of the filming takes place near Foley House Inn, located in the heart of the Historic District.

Foley House Inn is a bed and breakfast that is currently operating if fans of the series want to recreate the magic of Helen’s bachelorette trip.

Seasons 1-5 of Sweet Magnolias are streaming on Netflix.

Ardent Karmelo Anthony Advocate Apprehended Following Altercation

0

Amid the tension surrounding the sentencing of Karmelo Anthony for murder, a protester made headlines after being arrested. Captured on video engaging aggressively with another individual outside the courthouse, Winston Jerome Parker, aged 27, found himself in custody shortly thereafter.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Parker’s arrest to the Daily Mail, citing an outstanding warrant related to unlawful weapon possession. This charge stems from an incident that reportedly took place in the courthouse parking lot just days prior, on a Saturday.

According to prison records, Parker was released on a $1,000 surety bond. It remains unclear whether he has appointed legal representation to address the charges.

Parker’s arrest unfolded merely hours after he was seen in a heated exchange, pointing a finger in the face of another man during racially-charged demonstrations. These protests erupted outside the Collin County courthouse following the conviction of 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony, who was found guilty of the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet the previous year.

His arrest came just hours after he was filmed confronting a man and pointing in his face amid racially-charged protests outside the Collin County courthouse where Anthony, 19, was found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet last year.

The murder case shocked America, and the discussion surrounding the killing of a white teenager by a black peer quickly became racially fraught.

The verdict prompted fierce backlash from Anthony’s supporters who say he was discriminated against because there were no black members of the jury.

Anthony, who was 17 at the time, claimed he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed Metcalf with a folding knife after a heated argument under a tent.

But prosecutors eviscerated the self-defense claim that Metcalf attacked him first with video evidence and witness testimony.

Witnesses who were in the tent described Anthony as the aggressor, testifying that Anthony told Metcalf, ‘Touch me and see what happens,’ provoking Metcalf to push Anthony, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest.

Prosecutors said Metcalf’s twin brother, Hunter, rushed to his aid as Anthony ran from the scene and later tried to blend into groups of kids who were exiting the stadium.

Anthony sat motionless in court as police body camera footage from April of last year showed Hunter pleading for help after the stabbing.

Hunter shouted, ‘Oh my God. He’s my best friend. He’s my brother.’

He became hysterical as he begged for help and cried out, ‘I can’t do this.’

At one point, Hunter grew incoherent and seemed to be praying out loud.

Jurors gasped in horror after being shown never-before-seen photos of Metcalf’s punctured heart during the trial.

Metcalf was stabbed once, with the knife piercing through his bone in the center of his chest and puncturing the right side of his heart, a medical examiner testified.

Still, while cross-examining the medical examiner, Anthony’s lawyers implied that Metcalf impaled himself on the knife.

After his defense lawyers called on six witnesses who offered underwhelming evidence, Anthony opted not to take the stand.

The jury wound up deliberating for less than three hours before finding Anthony guilty of murder, and sentencing him to serve 35 years behind bars.

But Anthony’s lawyers have already filed a notice appealing the guilty verdict as some of Anthony’s supporters argue he did not properly face a jury of his peers as there were no black people in the jury.

Twelve jurors and six alternates, who were mostly white, with the exception of three Hispanics, two Asians and two from the Middle East and India, were selected to decide Anthony’s fate.

During jury selection, defense attorneys raised a Batson challenge, a legal objection used when it is believed potential jurors were struck off because of race, which was rejected by the judge.

Transform Your Midsection: 4 Effective Exercises to Eliminate Belly Overhang After 60

0

Facing the challenge of belly overhang after hitting 60? Discover four daily exercises that surpass yoga in building a resilient core.

As we age, particularly past 60, it’s common to notice unwelcome changes in our midsection. Contributing factors include diminished muscle mass, a decelerated metabolism, less physical activity, and years of neglecting core muscles. While many individuals turn to yoga for a solution, its emphasis on flexibility may not sufficiently engage the abdominal muscles needed for a toned waistline. For a more defined core, it’s essential to consistently engage in exercises that enhance stability, posture, and muscle endurance.

Incorporating these exercises into your daily routine is particularly effective because it trains the core to actively support your body throughout the day. Enhanced abdominal strength can lead to improved posture, better spinal support, and a more sculpted appearance around the waist and lower stomach. The following exercises also activate the hips, glutes, and deep stabilizing muscles, which collectively contribute to a smoother midsection than focusing solely on ab workouts.

The quartet of exercises outlined here will strengthen your core from multiple perspectives, while being gentle enough for everyday practice. Each exercise prioritizes control, posture, and muscle engagement over speed or force. With regular practice, you’ll feel a noticeable improvement in core strength, stability, and support in your daily activities.

The four exercises below strengthen the core from multiple angles while remaining gentle enough for consistent daily practice. Each movement emphasizes control, posture, and muscular engagement rather than speed or momentum. Perform them regularly, and your core will feel stronger, more stable, and more supportive during everyday movement.

Standing Knee-to-Elbow Crunches

Standing knee-to-elbow crunches challenge the entire core while improving balance and coordination at the same time. Many adults over 60 struggle to activate the abdominal muscles effectively because traditional floor crunches place unnecessary stress on the neck and lower back. This standing variation keeps the body upright while forcing the abs and obliques to contract powerfully during every repetition. The crossing movement also recruits the hips and stabilizing muscles responsible for better posture and walking mechanics. Unlike passive stretching routines, this exercise creates active muscular tension through the waistline while encouraging full-body movement. Consistent practice strengthens the trunk and helps improve abdominal control throughout the day.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Place your hands lightly behind your head
  • Lift one knee toward your chest
  • Rotate the opposite elbow toward the knee
  • Squeeze your abdominal muscles
  • Return slowly to the starting position
  • Alternate sides continuously
  • Perform 20 total repetitions.

Glute Bridges

Strong glutes and a strong core work together to support a firmer midsection. When the hips weaken, the pelvis often shifts forward, making the stomach area appear more prominent. Glute bridges strengthen the backside while forcing the abdominal muscles to stabilize continuously throughout the movement. The exercise also improves posture and spinal support, which helps create a tighter appearance through the waistline. Many adults over 60 notice improved lower-body strength and better trunk control after adding glute bridges consistently. Slow, controlled repetitions maximize muscular engagement without placing unnecessary stress on the joints.

How to Do It

  • Lie on your back with knees bent
  • Place your feet flat on the floor
  • Press through your heels
  • Lift your hips upward
  • Tighten your glutes and core
  • Hold briefly at the top
  • Lower slowly with control
  • Perform 12 to 15 repetitions.

Standing Side Knee Drives

The muscles along the sides of the waist play a major role in creating a stronger, firmer-looking midsection. Standing side knee drives target those obliques while improving balance and lower-body coordination. Many adults lose rotational strength because daily movement rarely challenges the trunk through side-to-side motion. This exercise restores that missing activation while strengthening the hips and deep abdominal stabilizers simultaneously. The standing position also increases calorie demand and encourages better posture throughout the movement. Performed consistently, side knee drives help strengthen the waistline while supporting smoother everyday movement.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with your hands behind your head
  • Lift one knee toward the side of your body
  • Lower the same-side elbow toward the knee
  • Squeeze through the side abdominal muscles
  • Return slowly to the starting position
  • Alternate sides continuously
  • Keep your chest lifted
  • Perform 20 total repetitions.

Bird Dogs

Bird dogs strengthen the deep stabilizing muscles that support posture, balance, and abdominal control. Many adults over 60 focus only on visible abdominal muscles while neglecting the deeper layers responsible for spinal stability and trunk strength. This exercise forces the core to resist rotation while the arms and legs move independently, creating excellent muscular engagement throughout the entire midsection. The movement also strengthens the glutes, lower back, and shoulders, producing better total-body stability. Unlike many yoga poses that emphasize flexibility, bird dogs build active strength and coordination through controlled movement. Consistent practice improves posture and helps the abdominal muscles support the body more effectively throughout daily life.

How to Do It

  • Start on all fours
  • Position your hands under your shoulders
  • Place your knees beneath your hips
  • Tighten your core gently
  • Extend one arm and the opposite leg
  • Hold briefly while maintaining balance
  • Return slowly to the starting position
  • Alternate sides for 10 repetitions per side.

Stunning Poll: 20% of Americans Think Aliens Walk Among Us

0

What in the world is going on?

A fascinating new survey reveals that the majority of Americans are convinced that we are not alone in the universe. An astonishing 63% of respondents in a CBS poll, which surveyed over 2,000 individuals, believe that intelligent life exists beyond our planet.

More intriguingly, more than one in five Americans, precisely 21%, are of the opinion that extraterrestrial beings have already made contact with Earth. This poll, conducted earlier this month, highlights a growing belief in the idea of aliens having already visited us.

In the hypothetical scenario of an alien encounter, the survey indicates that the predominant reaction among Americans would be one of curiosity rather than fear. Most would approach such an event with keen interest and wonder, eager to learn more about these potential cosmic visitors.

If a close encounter were to take place, most Americans said they’d greet aliens with more fascination than fear.

Roughly 67% said they’d feel “curious” about meeting extraterrestrials, while 31% said they’d be “scared.”

The alien-friendly response comes shortly after the Trump administration’s release of UFO files last month, which true believers say is proof we’ve already been contacted by alien life.

A total of 84% respondents also said they think the federal government “knows more than it’s telling” us about UFOs, according to the poll.

Three in 10 people, meanwhile, said the UFO document dump made them more likely to believe that aliens have visited Earth.

Overall, 17% of Americans report having personally seen something they believe was a UFO, according to the poll.

Viral Courthouse Clash: Man Arrested During Karmelo Anthony Murder Trial Drama

A man involved in a viral incident during the trial was arrested outside the courthouse, where Anthony had been found guilty earlier in the week. This arrest was one of at least two made as emotions ran high in this racially sensitive case.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to News Media that the two individuals were detained shortly after Anthony’s sentencing on Tuesday.

Jerome Winston Parker, the man from the viral confrontation, was apprehended due to an outstanding warrant related to the alleged unlawful carrying of a weapon, as stated by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the charge stems from an alleged incident that took place in the parking lot of the courthouse during “activities related to trial proceedings” three days earlier on June 6.

Parker was subsequently arrested Tuesday and remains in custody on a $1,000 bond.

On Tuesday, he was seen in a face-to-face confrontation with an Austin Metcalf supporter, arguing in support of Anthony in a heated clash outside the courthouse.

In the other arrest, video recorded by FOX 4 shows a man wearing a pink tie and suspenders being arrested outside the courthouse in connection with an alleged assault, according to witnesses.

That man was later identified as Sholdon Daniels, a Republican nominee for Congress in Texas’ 30th Congressional District, who posted a video to X shortly before the alleged incident in which he was wearing the same outfit. According to Daniels’ campaign website, he is a veteran and attorney.

Daniels was subsequently taken into custody and charged with public intoxication, according to jail records obtained by News Media. He remains in jail on a $500 bond.

Social media posts made to Daniels’ X account show him condemning Anthony’s actions, while pointing to race as playing a key factor in the controversial murder trial.

“I practice law in Collin County, Texas,” Daniels said in one X post. “Karmelo Anthony will be convicted and sentenced to life in prison. As he should. He murdered that boy because he was raised to hate white people and to view himself as a victim in every situation. It’s a culture thing.”

The arrests were made amid tense gatherings outside the courthouse as it was announced that a jury had found Anthony guilty of murdering Metcalf at a high school track meet in 2025.

Video taken by News Media showed several skirmishes breaking out as Anthony was handed a sentence of 35 years behind bars for Metcalf’s killing.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors revealed Anthony stabbed Metcalf to death after Metcalf asked him to leave a Memorial High School team tent.

Anthony’s defense insisted their client acted in self-defense.

However, a Texas jury convicted Anthony of murder.

News Media reached out to Daniels’s campaign and Parker for comment.
