Homeless Sex Offender Arrested for Machete Threat Against Property Owner and Children: A Community Alert

0

Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Charles Milton Johns Jr., aged 42, was taken into custody yesterday after allegedly threatening a property owner and her four children with a machete, asserting his intention to protect his campsite at any cost.

Around 10:53 a.m. on June 10, an officer from the Gainesville Police Department responded to an incident at an office complex located in the 1600 block of NW 23rd Avenue. This followed a report from the property owner indicating Johns had been previously forbidden from the premises on May 14.

According to the responding officer, the confrontation began when the property owner approached Johns, who was brandishing a machete. He reportedly declared his readiness to defend his camp, menacingly waving the weapon in her direction. The property owner, along with her children, felt threatened and feared potential harm, prompting them to contact 911.

Upon the officer’s arrival, Johns was observed holding the machete while standing on the property, despite it being clearly marked with “No Trespassing” signs. This was in direct violation of the prior warning he had received about entering the premises.

Johns, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and trespassing after a warning. He has four felony convictions (one sexual) and two misdemeanor convictions (non-violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in January 2025. He served six months in the Alachua County Jail for a 2025 shoplifting conviction; he is a registered sexual offender in Florida and is also wanted in Georgia for violating probation.

Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Unveiling Western Sydney Airport: Get Ready for the Grand Opening Date Announcement!

0

in brief

  • Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) will open to the public on Sunday 25 October.
  • Flights to and from WSI will increase the overall air traffic for Sydney.

Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) has officially announced its long-awaited opening date after years of meticulous planning and construction.

The inaugural flight is scheduled to launch from the brand-new runway on October 25 this year, with tickets for domestic departures extending into the next year available for purchase starting Wednesday.

The first flight will be a Jetstar service heading to the Gold Coast.

Both Jetstar and Qantas are pioneering services from this new airport, with company leaders asserting that the additional flights will relieve the pressure on some of Australia’s most heavily trafficked air routes.

Simon Hickey, the CEO of WSI, highlighted that the new airport will offer Western Sydney residents more flexible options to fly to national destinations any time of the day.

“Despite the ongoing global conflict that continues to challenge the industry, today’s domestic ticket launch is another vote of confidence in Western Sydney International Airport, and the opportunities this rapidly growing region presents for the future of air travel in Greater Sydney,” he said.

Jetstar will start running up to 21 flights per week from WSI to Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast from October.

Qantas will add eight of its own weekly services to Melbourne and Brisbane from the end of March 2027.

WSI will not be subject to the same curfews as Sydney’s existing Kingsford-Smith Airport, allowing passengers to fly between the normally-restricted 11pm and 6am.

The release of the planned WSI flight paths in 2023 prompted outcry from some local residents, particularly those in the Blue Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site, who say the aviation noise will be a major disturbance.

The sale of domestic routes follows the release of WSI’s first international routes earlier this year, with flights to Singapore and Auckland, New Zealand, starting in October and November, respectively.

The airport will be capable of catering for up to 10 million passengers a year upon opening and is designed to grow to handle 82 million annually, on par with London’s Heathrow Airport today, one of Europe’s busiest.

Qantas Group chief executive Vanessa Hudson said that the airport would also become a key hub for Qantas freight.

“More than 850 tonnes of freight [are] expected to move through our new terminal each week, helping us meet growing demand for e-commerce and next-day deliveries,” she said.

The airport is in the final stages of terminal fit-out works in anticipation of the opening of Australia’s first major international greenfield airport in more than 50 years.

Delays and blowouts

The concept of a second Sydney airport to service the western suburbs dates back to the 1940s, with Badgerys Creek being formally selected as the site of the development in 1986.

However, thanks to decades of political disagreement and planning alterations, it wasn’t until 2014 that the Abbott government officially declared construction would begin.

While the airport itself has remained on schedule and within its initial $5.3 billion federal budget allocation, the metro rail link designed to service it has been pushed back and may not come online until 2028.

The $11 billion infrastructure project is threatening to blow out by an additional $2.2 billion, something the New South Wales contractor Webuild has blamed on supply chain disruptions and scope creep.

NSW Premier Chris Minns has refused to provide the requested funds, saying the state “won’t be gouged” by private firms seeking to pass on cash-flow risk to taxpayers.

In retaliation, Webuild has issued a “go-slow” order, cutting night, weekend, and overtime work.

The project has also been hampered by delays in the deliveries of German-built driverless trains, as well as power grid issues at St Marys interchange station.

The state has been forced to offer a free public bus running from WSI and the St Marys train and bus interchange, which will be phased out when the metro line is completed.

Hudson said that the opening of the airport represents a major milestone in Australian aviation.

“We’re excited by the potential of Western Sydney International Airport to spur local tourism and make aviation more accessible for millions of people in Western Sydney, who currently have to travel to Kingsford Smith to catch a flight,” she said.

Argentina’s Inflation Drops to Eight-Month Low, Offering Boost to President Milei

BUENOS AIRES – In a refreshing turn for Argentina’s economy, inflation has decelerated for the second consecutive month as reported in May, offering a glimmer of hope for President Javier Milei. The economic data disclosed on Thursday highlights this positive shift, which comes as a relief after a lengthy period of persistent price hikes that had threatened to overshadow the libertarian president’s notable achievements.

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) revealed that consumer prices rose by 2.1% in May compared to the previous month of April. This increase was celebrated by Economy Minister Luis Caputo, who lauded it as the most modest monthly inflation rate in the past eight months.

However, on an annual basis, inflation edged up slightly to 33.2% this May. This uptick partly reflects the notably low 1.5% inflation rate recorded in May 2025, marking a seven-year low at the time. Since then, prices have steadily increased, placing a financial strain on households and fueling public dissatisfaction with Milei’s administration. The government has been navigating through corruption allegations and struggling to invigorate the economy, especially in the labor-intensive sectors like retail and manufacturing.

Among the various sectors, communications saw the steepest price increase, with phone and internet bills climbing by 3.4%. Education costs followed closely, while food prices rose by 2.5%.

President Milei took to social media to commend Minister Caputo, affectionately known as Toto, sharing the INDEC report with an enthusiastic message, “Let’s goooooo Toto!”

Milei and Caputo also celebrated the news that S&P Global, one of the major credit ratings agencies, had upgraded Argentina’s sovereign credit rating late Wednesday to a stable B- from the CCC category, which is considered most at risk of defaulting, citing the government’s success in meeting debt repayments.

Although the upgrade leaves Argentina several notches below investment status, the vote of confidence advances Milei’s goal of bringing the crisis-prone economy back to global capital markets six years after Argentina defaulted on its foreign debt for the ninth time.

Milei came to office in late 2023 vowing to eliminate Argentina’s sky-high price increases and reverse its chronic fiscal deficits.

More than two years later, his sweeping deregulation and austerity measures have produced a rare budget surplus, charmed investors and slowed inflation — the annual rate, now at 33%, topped 200% when he took power.

But the inflation that makes the cost of living here in Buenos Aires comparable to that in European capitals outpaces real wages. Unemployment has ticked up as thousands of workers are laid off from national industries that can’t keep up with a flood of cheap imports.

Corruption scandals of the kind Milei vowed to eradicate upon taking office have struck a nerve against the backdrop of his efforts to defund education, health care and social assistance.

Most recently, Milei’s close aide and cabinet chief, Manuel Adorni, came under investigation for alleged illicit enrichment over lavish travel — including an all-cash trip to Aruba — and real estate purchases despite his meager public salary. On Wednesday, he admitted to hiding $500,000 in undeclared savings and cryptocurrency investments.

Mississippi Tragedy: Teen Accused of Killing Elderly Couple and Engaging in Standoff with Deputies

0

A teenager in Mississippi is accused of breaking into an elderly couple’s home and fatally attacking them, leading to a tense standoff with law enforcement, according to investigators.

The suspect, 17-year-old Cordarius Hobbs, is alleged to have unlawfully entered the residence of Billy Blair, 74, and his wife Virginia Carol Blair, 71, in Mendenhall, Mississippi, on June 3. Both were reportedly killed during the incident, as reported by WLBT.

Authorities from the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 12:24 p.m. on June 3, after relatives were unable to contact the couple. Upon arrival, deputies reportedly encountered gunfire directed at them from within the home.

Bailey Martin, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, noted that the deputies stumbled upon an active burglary. She further explained that both law enforcement officials and civilians in the vicinity found themselves under heavy gunfire.

While Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the 17-year-old suspect told law enforcement that he’d surrender at the front door, he instead ran out through the back of the house, causing a chase. He said one deputy was shot.

Hobbs was eventually arrested after being shot by a Mississippi state trooper and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He was charged with two counts of capital murder, one count of burglary, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and two counts of aggravated assault over 65 years old.

In a statement on Facebook, the couple’s family said, “We are crushed in spirit, bruised, and brokenhearted, but we are not alone.”

Jason Busby, who was friends with the couple, remembered them as being extremely selfless when speaking with WLBT.

“The man would’ve given you the shirt off his back, his wife is the same, and they’re just great people. It’s just a tragedy,” Busby said. “Everybody around here is still in shock. They were just good people.”

Shocking Allegation: Woman Accused of Forcing Brother to Kneel on Rice for Hours in Disturbing Case

0

Inset: Nataly Francelia Cruz (Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center). Background: The Florida City Police Department headquarters (Google Maps).

A Florida woman has been taken into custody following allegations of child abuse involving her younger brother, according to local law enforcement. The incident came to light when the young boy sought assistance from a neighbor, pleading for help.

The accused, 26-year-old Nataly Francelia Cruz, is facing a charge of child abuse without causing great bodily harm, as recorded in Miami-Dade County court documents.

The alleged abuse took place in a home situated on Southwest Ninth Street in Florida City, a small suburb approximately 50 miles southwest of Miami. According to the arrest affidavit, Cruz reportedly forced her brother to kneel on rice for several hours as a form of punishment for misbehavior. This document was obtained by both Miami-based Fox and ABC affiliate WSVN and the local independent TV station WPLG.

The situation unfolded on a Wednesday afternoon when the victim reached out to a neighbor for help. He arrived at the neighbor’s residence around 4:45 p.m., expressing that he “couldn’t take it anymore” after being subjected to the harsh punishment since 11 a.m. In response, the concerned neighbor contacted the authorities, prompting police intervention.

Officers responded to the residence after a neighbor called police to report that the boy came to his residence around 4:45 p.m. that afternoon and said he “couldn”t take it anymore” after being subjected to the rice punishment since 11 a.m.

The boy also said “this is not the first time he has been punished this way when he misbehaves,” according to the charging document.

When police arrived, the boy pointed the finger at his sister for the punishment — and explained that she is his legal guardian since their mother was deported, according to the affidavit.

“I observed minor injuries on his knees consistent with kneeling for a long time on a surface with rice,” a police officer wrote in the charging document. “He also reported that while kneeling, he attempted to use the restroom inside the house but his sister refused to let him inside the house.”

The defendant, for her part, also gave a statement to police — but her words were reportedly redacted from the document.

Cruz was arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $2,500 bond.

The defendant made an initial appearance on Thursday morning before 11th Judicial Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer. The court found probable cause for the charge and ordered Cruz to stay away from her brother.

Cruz is also subject to an immigration hold, according to jail records reviewed by Law&Crime.

Jerry Seinfeld Firmly Rebukes Pro-Palestine Protester During Public Appearance

0

In an unexpected encounter, Jerry Seinfeld found himself the target of a live streamer attempting to provoke a response outside Madison Square Garden. The incident occurred following the New York Knicks’ spectacular comeback victory in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

As Seinfeld exited the arena, he was approached by a streamer known as FinesseFave, who urged him to proclaim “Free Palestine” into the microphone. The 72-year-old comedian responded with a chuckle before delivering a blunt retort: “It doesn’t exist.”

Unfazed, Seinfeld continued on his way, while the streamer was visibly thrilled at capturing what he deemed an “insane clip.”

Once uploaded, the clip rapidly gained traction across social media platforms, sparking a mix of reactions. Opinions varied widely, with some applauding Seinfeld’s response while others criticized it.

The clip did end up going viral on all social media platforms as commenters were divided about how Seinfeld handled the situation.

Some users blasted the star for his response as one said: ‘JERRY SEINFELD following the Knicks game says that PALESTINE “DOESN’T EXIST”. DISGUSTING.’

The ‘Free Palestine’ movement is a decentralized global campaign advocating for Palestinian self-determination, human rights, and an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

At its core, the movement seeks to end systemic discrimination and secure dignity, statehood, and justice for Palestinians

Seinfeld has been very vocally dismissive of the ‘Free Palestine’ movement for years as back in September he said he holds the Ku Klux Klan in higher regard than those supporters of the movement.

At the time he was at a Chabad event to honor people being held hostage in Gaza at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, according to the college’s student newspaper, The Duke Chronicle.

Seinfeld broached the uncomfortable topic as he introduced Omer Shem Tov, a one-time Israeli hostage. He said of Free Palestine supporters, ‘Just say you don’t like Jews.’

The Brooklyn, New York native explained his point of view at the event, according to the student paper.

‘By saying Free Palestine, you’re not admitting what you really think,’ Seinfeld said. ‘So it’s actually – compared to the Ku Klux Klan, I’m actually thinking the Klan is actually a little better here because they can come right out and say, ‘We don’t like Blacks, we don’t like Jews’ – OK, that’s honest.’

Months before that, Seinfeld bluntly told an Anti-Israeli activist ‘I don’t care about Palestine’ during an awkward exchange after what initially appeared to be an innocent selfie request.

The comedy legend gave the cutting response after the activist attempted to elicit a political statement from him during the unexpected encounter filmed in February 2025.

Social media personality Subway DJ approached the comedian at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where Saturday Night Live was hosting a 50th-anniversary celebration at the time.

Seinfeld was more than willing to oblige when Subway DJ asked, ‘Jerry, can I get a selfie?’

‘Sure!’, Seinfeld said as he leaned in to pose for what he believed was going to be a typical fan photo.

But instead of capturing a still image, the activist was secretly recording a video.

As the camera rolled, the activist flashed a peace sign and abruptly declared, ‘Free Palestine.’

Seinfeld’s expression said it all, shifting from surprise to discomfort as he quietly processed the political bait.

When asked to repeat the phrase he shook his head delivering a blunt response, ‘I don’t care about Palestine,’ before walking away, shutting down the encounter.

Seinfeld’s remark was not particularly surprising. The comedian has been an outspoken supporter of Israel, particularly since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023.

He made a solidarity visit to Israel at the end of 2023. He also met with families of hostages taken by Hamas and has said he will always stand with Israel and the Jewish people.

Shortly after the conflict escalated, Seinfeld took to Instagram to voice his unwavering support for the Jewish state.

‘I lived and worked on a Kibbutz in Israel when I was 16, and I have loved our Jewish homeland ever since. My heart is breaking from these attacks and atrocities. But we are also a very strong people in our hearts and minds.

‘We believe in justice, freedom, and equality. We survive and flourish no matter what. I will always stand with Israel and the Jewish people.’

Shakira Shines at World Cup Launch Amidst Turbulence in Mexico

Amid a flurry of excitement and mounting challenges, Shakira launched the 2026 World Cup on Thursday, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable tournament.

This year’s World Cup, heralded as the largest in history, has drawn throngs of passionate fans to North America. Supporters from around the globe have gathered in the United States, Canada, and Mexico to cheer on their favorite teams.

Echoing the inaugural match of 2010, Mexico faced off against South Africa at the legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, marking the official start of the football spectacle.

During the opening ceremony, Shakira, alongside Burna Boy, delivered a rousing performance of “Dai Dai,” the official anthem for this year’s FIFA World Cup.

The vibrant kickoff event dazzled with a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds as hundreds of dancers filled the field. The Colombian superstar captivated the audience, donning a striking neon yellow bodysuit paired with white miniskirts as she took center stage.

Thousands of fans went wild inside the Azteca as Shakira, who also recorded the official anthem for the 2010 World Cup, shimmied her hips amid the sea of backup dancers.

She lit up the arena with her signature dance moves and trademark high-energy as she was joined by a traditional Mexican mariachi band.

A massive gold replica of the World Cup trophy erupted from the ground at the center of the stage as the stream of dancers in brightly colored outfits burst out alongside the statue.

The jam-packed show also featured performances from Alejandro Fernandez, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Angeles Azules, Mana and Tyla – all of whom featured on the first-ever FIFA World Cup album.

Shakira’s fellow Colombian, rapper J Balvin, was one of the biggest headlining acts at the ceremony, strutting on stage before Shakira’s appearance.

J Balvin, one of the biggest artists in Latin America, performed alongside singer Ryan Castro after Mexican pop-rock legends Mana warmed up the home crowd with their classic hits.

A stream of Mexican fans descended on the famous stadium hours before kickoff to celebrate their nation hosting the World Cup for a record third time.

They transformed the Azteca into a spectacle of color, dressing in red and green from head to toe.

Those not fortunate enough to have gotten their hands on one of the eye-wateringly expensive tickets piled into the fan zone in the Zócalo plaza in the historic district of Mexico City.

However, chaotic scenes broke out at the free admission fan park just over an hour before kickoff.

Access to the fan fest in Zócalo plaza was hampered by metal barriers erected in recent days to prevent protesting teachers from reaching the area. But thousands of fans attempted to shove their way into the fan zone, according to AFP.

‘Stop pushing and shoving, there are children here, you’re like animals!’ a city official shouted through a megaphone as he tried to control access to the fan venue.

Some fans threw water bottles and hurled insults at police, as well as chanting in support of the Mexican team.

The local government announced on social media that the site was ‘full’ and suggested fans go to other plazas.

Meanwhile, while fans around the world were stunned by Shakira’s performance, viewers in the United States were furious when Fox, the official American broadcaster of the World Cup, failed to show the ceremony on its live coverage.

Instead, American fans tuning in to catch the high-octane performance were forced to listen to analysis from the network’s panel of Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas.

It is unclear why the network decided to shun Shakira’s performance but Telemundo, the Spanish-language carrier of the tournament, broadcast the entire show.

Meanwhile, the US and Canada will host their own opening ceremonies ahead of their first games on Friday.

Canada will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening clash in a freshly transformed BMO Field in Toronto.

The stadium has expanded from 28,000 seats to 45,000 in preparation for the World Cup crowd.

And it will serve as the stage for Canada’s celebratory bash as the nation serves up some of the greatest talent that the Great White North has to offer.

Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez and Michael Buble, among others, will take to the stage before the tournament begins north of the border.

The USA’s opening ceremony will take place on the same day, with the USMNT also getting their campaign underway on Friday.

The Stars and Stripes take on Paraguay in Los Angeles as they begin their first home World Cup since 1994.

Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema and Tyla headline the pregame festivities in the City of Angels.

However, the build-up to kick-off has been dominated by a series of off-field controversies involving politics, cost, security and logistics ahead of the largest World Cup in history.

Mexico City itself encapsulates that contrast. There is pride in the country becoming the first to host World Cup matches across three separate tournaments following the 1970 and 1986 editions.

But behind that football excitement, there is a mix of genuine tension, with large-scale protests taking place across the capital.

The most visible demonstrations have come from members of the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educacion, a teachers’ union protesting over pay, pensions and labor reforms.

Elsewhere, environmental and human rights groups, including Greenpeace, have staged protests about the environmental impact of a World Cup spanning 16 host cities and three countries.

Sections of the Mexican public are also unhappy about the costs associated with co-hosting the tournament when deep-rooted societal and economic issues remain unresolved. Some have argued the event primarily benefits wealthier sections of society, rather than the general population.

Meanwhile, the United States has also been rocked by controversy in the build-up to the tournament amid outrage over the Trump administration’s visa policies.

Visa and entry issues have provided another source of controversy, with several fans, journalists and even officials having reportedly encountered problems obtaining visas or entering the US.

The most high-profile individual affected was Somali referee Omar Artan, regarded as one of Africa’s leading officials.

Despite being selected for the tournament, Artan was removed from FIFA’s list of referees after American authorities denied him entry upon arrival at Miami International Airport.

An official within the Donald Trump administration claimed this was due to Artan’s alleged ‘association with suspected members of terror organizations.’

Speaking to the New York Times, Artan said: ‘I am very, very disappointed. I’m just simply a referee who’s trying to live his dream, the biggest dream of my life, to come to the World Cup.’

Somalia is among the countries included on Trump’s travel ban list. Last month, he described Somali immigrants in the US as ‘all crooks,’ having previously labeled the African nation as ‘the worst country in the world’ in January.

The travel restrictions have attracted particular attention because they also affect qualified nations. Haiti and Iran are subject to full restrictions, while Ivory Coast and Senegal face partial restrictions.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino defended FIFA's handling of the various issues on Wednesday

FIFA President Gianni Infantino defended FIFA’s handling of the various issues on Wednesday

The issue has brought geopolitical tensions into the World Cup. Iraq national team photographer Talal Salah was denied entry to the US, while the Iranian Football Federation claimed their allocation of tickets for fans had been revoked.

They added that some officials were denied visas, and Iran’s team is now required to enter and leave the US on matchdays.

As a result, Iran switched their base from Arizona to Mexico shortly before the tournament, disrupting preparations.

The accumulation of these issues has led to some observers describing this World Cup as the most politically charged in history, despite FIFA’s attempts to position it as a unifying global event.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino claimed last year that ‘fans from all over the world will be welcome’ and only attracted more attention when pressed on visa problems, travel restrictions and ticket prices on Wednesday.

While defending FIFA’s handling of the situation, he argued that immigration decisions rest with governments rather than the governing body.

He similarly backed the ticket prices and claimed no one else would have been able to secure Iran’s participation at the tournament given their conflict with the US.

He also urged his critics to ‘chill’ and ‘relax’.

‘We don’t live on the moon, we live on planet Earth,’ Infantino said. ‘We have to respect that we are not kings of the world, who can rule over governments and police forces.

‘We are a sports organization that does as much as we can. It’s important sometimes to chill, relax. We work on everything. Sometimes screaming and shouting does not find a solution.’

Unlocking Fertility: How GLP-1 Medications Could Be the Game-Changer for Reproductive Health

0

Recently, a flurry of viral posts on social media has been circulating, suggesting that using GLP-1 weight-loss medications can enhance your chances of conceiving.

However, the notion of an “Ozempic baby boom” is more fiction than fact.

Although there is some association between GLP-1 medications—such as semaglutide (found in Ozempic and Wegovy) or tirzepatide (in Zepbound and Mounjaro)—and pregnancy, they should not be seen as a miraculous solution for fertility.

“GLP-1s are not fertility medications,” explained Dr. Joshua Stewart, a reproductive endocrinologist at Weill Cornell Medicine. “They don’t induce ovulation like medications such as Clomid, which is designed to stimulate ovulation.”

Nevertheless, Dr. Stewart acknowledges that “GLP-1s can influence other metabolic factors that might indirectly enhance ovulation.”

In other words, if you have polycystic ovary syndrome, which is one cause of ovulation issues and infertility, or otherwise improve your blood sugar control, lower your insulin levels and lose weight while you’re on a GLP-1, this may, in turn, help regulate ovulation.

Taking a GLP-1 should be considered a preliminary step in preparing your body for pregnancy.

“If a patient isn’t ovulating, and part of the reason is that they have insulin resistance, whether from diabetes, prediabetes or obesity, we may suggest that they go on a GLP-1 for a certain period of time and try to improve their insulin resistance,” Stewart said. “They may start to ovulate on their own or this may help improve their response to fertility medications.”

There are many factors that can contribute to fertility issues, said Dr. Tendai Chiware, MD, a reproductive endocrinologist and director of third party reproduction at Brooklyn’s Genesis Fertility, part of the Pinnacle Fertility network.

“These headlines give the impression that ‘if I use Ozempic I’ll get pregnant,’ but you may need IUI or IVF, you might need to have a fibroid removed or we may need to treat your endometriosis,” she said. “There are multiple factors that contribute to fertility issues.”

One critical factor is that you shouldn’t take these powerhouse weight-loss drugs while you’re actively trying to conceive or are already pregnant.

“We don’t have safety studies about these medications yet” in pregnancy, said Dr. Judi Chervenak, MD, an attending physician at Montefiore Einstein and an associate professor of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “This is something I discuss with my patients routinely when they come in with questions about them.”

Stewart recommends patients stop taking GLP-1s for at least two to three months before trying to conceive, and before beginning infertility treatments.

“Some of the mechanisms by which GLP-1s work and affect our bodies may affect how a fetus develops,” he said.

Experts suggest slowly weaning yourself off a GLP-1, especially since some formulas have extended-release properties, which means they can remain in your body for longer than you may think — and that timeline may vary depending on your body’s response and your metabolism.

And, if you’ve already lost a considerable amount of weight on a GLP-1, you may need some time before you begin infertility treatments.

“The idea of an Ozempic baby boom is an unfair characterization.”

Dr. Joshua Stewart

“If you’ve experienced a dramatic weight loss, you might not be at the point where you should be considering a pregnancy,” said Chiware. “That sort of weight loss can prompt changes in your metabolism and hormones.”

In the end, Stewart says that while GLP-1s have been an incredible advancement in the treatment of diabetes and obesity, as a fertility aide they should be considered a long-term strategy used well before infertility treatments begin.

Additionally, if you’re looking to avoid getting pregnant, these drugs may affect how well your birth control works.

“Oral birth control pills may not be absorbed as quickly, reducing their effectiveness to prevent pregnancy,” said Chiware. “This is more pronounced when the dose of the GLP-1 is being adjusted or produces side effects like vomiting. Alternatives to oral contraception — condoms, intrauterine devices and implants, patches and vaginal rings — are recommended.”

Either way, “the idea of an Ozempic baby boom is an unfair characterization,” said Stewart. “Instead, I’d prefer that patients see these medications as something you would try for two to three months before beginning infertility treatments to see if it helps restore ovulation. It’s not a quick fix.”

Off Campus Team Urges Fans to Cease Harassment Following Mika Abdalla’s Departure

The creators of Amazon Prime Video’s Off Campus have issued a plea to fans to cease the “targeted harassment” directed at the cast in the wake of Mika Abdalla’s recent breakup with her fiancé, Jake Short.

“The Off Campus community thrives on a mutual appreciation for storytelling and respect for the real individuals who bring it to life,” the show’s official X account posted on Thursday, June 11. “We urge everyone in this space to extend that respect to our cast and their personal lives. Any accounts engaging in targeted harassment will be blocked from following us.”

This announcement follows an exclusive report by Us Weekly that revealed Off Campus star Abdalla, aged 26, had called off her engagement with Short, aged 29, after a five-year relationship.

“Given the recent attention on Mika’s personal affairs, we feel it’s necessary to confirm that she and Jake have parted ways,” Abdalla’s representative informed Us on June 1. “They continue to support each other and maintain a cordial relationship, and they politely request privacy and respect during this time.”

Does Off Campus' Mika Abdalla Have a Boyfriend? What to Know About Her Fiance Jake Short

Mika Abdalla, known for her role as Allie Hayes in the popular Off Campus series, had found love off-screen with Jake Short before their engagement ended in 2026. The couple initially met in 2021, and their engagement was made public four years later by Short’s manager, Brian Medavoy, who shared, “An incredible day yesterday celebrating the […]”

Following news of the split, a 2024 clip of Abdalla and Short on the latter’s “The Sit and Chat” podcast resurfaced online. Fans believed that Short disparaged Abdalla in the footage.

“We’ve seen a conversation around clips of us together when we were in a relationship, and people making harmful and inaccurate assumptions about our dynamic,” the exes told Us in a joint statement after the podcast clip went viral. “We were in a loving, respectful relationship for five years [and] it’s hurtful to see playful moments dissected in a way that does not reflect the respect and love we had and still have for each other.”

Short further addressed his comments about Abdalla in a statement via his Instagram Stories.

“I made a disrespectful, juvenile joke in a clip that recirculated this week,” the Disney Channel alum wrote. “It’s imperative to me that I take accountability, as I am aware that it was inappropriate.”

Off Campus

The Off Campus cast has, similar to their fictional counterparts, have found success in their personal dating lives. Based on the Off Campus book series by Elle Kennedy, the show, which premiered in May 2026, follows an elite ice hockey team — and the women in their lives — as they “grapple with love, heartbreak […]

Short said the podcast moment is “not representative of who I am or who I was in my relationship.”

“I continue to learn from this situation and work to show people the respect they deserve,” he concluded.

Abdalla, who met Short on the set of 2021’s Sex Appeal, starred as Allie Hayes on Off Campus season 1. She is set to co-lead the upcoming season 2, which is currently in production, opposite Stephen Kalyn’s Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis.

“Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” Abdalla exclusively told Us last month of what awaits the pair onscreen in season 2. “And that’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”

Authorities in Boston are delving into the case of an armed heist at a children’s lemonade stand, run by two siblings.

The Boston Police Department was called to South Boston around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, they spoke with the kids and their father. According to the children, two individuals had circled their lemonade stand multiple times before stopping to inquire if they accepted Apple Pay, as detailed in the police report shared with News Media.

Before the children could respond, one of the individuals snatched a container holding $50 in cash. The second suspect revealed a black firearm tucked in his waistband before both fled the scene, according to police reports.

“Few things are more unsettling than witnessing the innocence of a children’s lemonade stand shattered by an armed robbery,” expressed Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn, who serves parts of South Boston, in a Facebook post. “Our entire community extends its thoughts to the young children and families affected by this senseless and distressing event.”

The children described the suspects to police. One appeared to be a dark-skinned male about 14 years old wearing a black Nike sheisty—a slang term for a full-face covering—a black shirt, unknown color shorts, and high white socks; this suspect displayed a black firearm in his waistband.

The second suspect was described as a light-skinned male appearing to be 11 years old. He was also wearing a Nike sheisty.

Street cameras in the area were not facing the direction of the incident, police said.

In his social media message, Flynn said the incident could be traumatic for the children’s family.

“As neighbors, we must all understand that an injustice done to one of us is an injustice done to all of us,” he wrote. “While South Boston has certainly changed in my lifetime, one thing that remains is the spirit of its people. In neighborhood fashion emblematic of the South Boston I grew up in, friends and neighbors are rallying to show their support for the family.”

Neighbors planned to help the kids reopen the lemonade stand on Friday, Flynn said.
