Navy Sailor Receives 44-Year Sentence for Strangling Fellow Servicemember in Virginia Barracks

0

A Navy sailor has been sentenced to 44 years in prison for the strangulation of a 21-year-old fellow service member in his barracks room, concluding a case that highlighted overlooked warning signs.

Petty Officer Jermiah Copeland received the sentence during a general court-martial after admitting guilt to charges of unpremeditated murder and other related offenses in the killing of Culinary Specialist 3rd Class Angelina Resendiz, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) announced in a news release on Tuesday.

In addition to his prison term, Copeland, formerly stationed on the USS James E. Williams, will face a dishonorable discharge, lose all pay and allowances, be demoted to the rank of Seaman Apprentice, and must register as a sex offender upon his release.

The sentencing was delivered shortly after Copeland confessed in court to strangling Resendiz on May 29, 2025, in his barracks room at Naval Station Norfolk. According to testimony reported by USNI News, Copeland claimed the incident occurred after a night of drinking when Resendiz became upset over something she discovered on his phone.

Angelina Resendiz, a dedicated culinary specialist in the U.S. Navy, is remembered for her ambition and commitment to advancing her military career before her tragic death in 2025, as shared by her mother, Esmi Castle.

Resendiz’s disappearance triggered a 10-day search led by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Investigators ultimately recovered her remains in a wooded area near Norfolk and arrested Copeland.

“Petty Officer Copeland deserves to be held fully accountable for his heinous actions that resulted in the tragic murder of Petty Officer Resendiz,” NCIS Norfolk Special Agent in Charge Emily Schmid said in a statement Wednesday.

The case drew broader scrutiny from Resendiz’s mother, Esmi Castle, who told News Media she believes military leaders missed opportunities to intervene before her daughter’s death. Castle has argued that prior allegations involving Copeland and other women should have prompted stronger action.

“If they would have dealt with him when he started harming women, he would never have gotten to Angie,” Castle previously told News Media.

Before her death, Resendiz was working to advance her career as a Navy culinary specialist and hoped to one day cook for presidents and world leaders, according to her mother.

Despite criticizing the military’s handling of the case, Castle said she found some measure of closure after hearing Copeland admit responsibility for the killing.

“I thanked him for telling the truth,” she told News Media following his guilty plea.

Carl Radke Reflects on Erika Kirk’s ‘Summer House’ Journey: ‘Bravo is the Common Thread

Carl Radke vividly recalls Erika Kirk’s first appearance on Bravo.

“I remember everything about it. I didn’t know her as ‘Erika Kirk’ back then. She wasn’t with [Charlie Kirk] at that time,” Carl, 41, shared in a conversation with Variety on June 9. “She was involved in activities around New York. I met her along with her brunette friend, who was also on the double date,” he explained.

In 2019, Erika, now 37, made a brief appearance in a season 3 episode of Summer House. During this episode, Carl played matchmaker by introducing her to his housemate, Jordan Verroi.

“[Erika] was interested in setting me up with her friend, but I suggested she should meet my friend, Jordan. So we arranged for them to go on a couple of dates,” Carl recounted. “I was trying to set them up! It’s quite a crazy story looking back.”

Charlie Kirk s Wife Erika Once Appeared on Summer House

Recently, Erika Kirk (née Frantzve), the wife of the late Charlie Kirk, has been thrust into the spotlight following his passing. However, devoted Bravo fans might recall her from a different context. Erika’s brief appearance on Summer House has resurfaced through a viral TikTok video, allowing fans to relive the moment.

Carl also claimed that he was “advised to not really talk about” Erika’s Bravo history.

“It doesn’t have to deal with me,” he stated. “But all roads lead to Bravo.”

Erika, who has never publicly discussed her brief appearance on Summer House, married Charlie in 2021. The conservative activist was shot and killed in September 2025 at the age of 31. Along with Erika, Charlie is survived by the couple’s two children.

In the wake of Charlie’s death, Erika took over his duties as the CEO of Turning Point USA.

“I didn’t ask for this. It’s, obviously, a blessing,” she stated of becoming a working mom during a CBS News town hall in December 2025. “I view it as a blessing [and] a duty to my husband, but I was very happy being a stay-at-home mom. There’s nothing wrong with being a mother. There’s actually [no] more beautiful and emotional and powerful ‘job title’ if you will [than] being a mother.”

Summer House’s Carl Radke and Kyle Cooke’s Honest Quotes About Their Friendship After Season 7 Drama, Loverboy Controversy

Summer House’s Carl Radke and Kyle Cooke’s reality TV bromance has been going strong since 2016 — but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Fans met the duo when Summer House premiered in 2017 after filming the prior summer. Carl eventually came to work for Kyle at Loverboy in 2019, which Kyle founded one year […]

She continued, “For me, I experienced what it was like living in New York and experiencing that ‘boss babe’ culture. When I met Charlie and we had our babies, I was in it. That was all hands on deck. I would take that world in a heartbeat. Stepping into this role is not so much a job title. It’s not a 9-to-5 for me [and] this is something that I’m very passionate about. [Turning Point USA] is still a living, breathing version of my husband.”

Erika further stated that Turning Point is “not just a company” to her.

“The staff and employees are not just staff and employees, they’re family,” she said. “For me, it’s a lot different and a lot deeper than a career. This is very personal.”

Perrie Edwards Celebrates Debut Solo Album With Listening Party, Showcasing Her Radiant Pregnancy Glow

Perrie Edwards, who is expecting, recently celebrated her growing baby bump at a special listening party for her upcoming solo album.

The 32-year-old singer and her fiancé, professional footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, are already proud parents to their four-year-old son, Axel.

This pregnancy coincides with an exciting career milestone for Perrie, as she gears up to launch her first solo album, marking a significant new phase in her music journey.

In honor of this momentous occasion, the star hosted an exclusive listening event just ahead of the album’s official release this Friday.

On Thursday, she shared photos from the event on Instagram, where she dazzled in a stylish white jumpsuit with a cut-out design that elegantly highlighted her baby bump.

The star beamed as she posed next to a pal in front of a giant screen displaying her album cover.

It comes after Perrie was left red-faced as her son corrected her on the lyrics to her own song after she censored them in front of him.

The singer has carved a successful solo career for herself since Little Mix went on hiatus in 2022.

Her biggest tracks to date include You Go Your Way, Tears and Forget About Us.

However, Axel quickly called her out, telling his mother: ‘That’s not the words!’

Perrie replied ‘it is’ before Axel then blurted out the expletive which left her open-mouthed as she dropped to the ground in laughter.

Amused fans replied to the clip, with one writing: ‘Axel taking no prisoners—tiny critic, big honesty.’

A second posted: ‘That’s so sweet! Axel keeping Perrie on her toes is adorable nothing like kids to make sure we get it right.’

‘That’s so adorable! A son correcting his mom on her own lyrics is just the cutest thing ever. He’s such a little legend,’ said a third.

While a fourth commented: ‘Brutal call out, love it.’

Perrie’s upcoming release comes after her former Little Mix band member Jade released her debut album.

Meanwhile, she recently debuted her baby bump after announcing she was expecting her second child earlier this month.

She and her fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had taken to social media to share the happy news with fans.

Posing with Alex and their son Axel, Perrie penned to her followers: ‘Guess what hunnies…’

She gave a nod to her new single If He Wanted To He Would as she featured the lyrics on a white T-shirt which she revealed after turning round to show her blossoming bump.

Her happy news comes after she opened up about two devastating losses she suffered before the birth of Axel.

She spoke about her experience on the recent episode of Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast.

Perrie shared that she first miscarried early into her first pregnancy, and discovered the devastating loss when she started bleeding and headed to the doctors.

She then went onto reveal that a year after giving birth to her ‘rainbow baby’ Axel, she discovered she was pregnant again, but tragically lost her baby at 24 weeks.

Speaking about her son, Perrie said: ‘Axel’s a rainbow baby.

‘So I had a miscarriage very early on with my first ever pregnancy, and it was so early. I remember finding out I was pregnant.

‘Obviously, I started bleeding not long after, and I went to the hospital and I had the scan and they were like, ‘There’s no baby.”

‘And I was like, ‘oh, I’ve made this up. Maybe I got a false positive or something.’ And I remember being on my own at the appointments because nobody was there.’

James Van Der Beek’s Surprising Reaction to Ex-Wife’s Marriage News Revealed in Last Meeting

Before succumbing to cancer this past February, James Van Der Beek expressed his support for his ex-wife Heather McComb as she entered a new chapter by marrying Scott Michael Campbell on May 30.

In an exclusive chat with Us Weekly on Tuesday, McComb shared that she discussed her upcoming wedding plans with Van Der Beek during their heartfelt final conversation.

“James and his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, were both aware of my marriage to Scott,” McComb shared with the publication. “Their reaction was one of genuine love, support, and excitement.”

McComb, who was married to James from 2003 to 2010, cherished the approval she received from him before taking her vows once more, describing it as a sentiment she would forever treasure.

The 49-year-old further admired the way the “Varsity Blues” actor extended his love to those around him, particularly toward Kimberly and their six children.

“I know that James would want me to celebrate our love, just like he celebrated the love that he had for Kimberly, which was so beautiful,” she said.

McComb felt “all the people [she and Campbell] lost” at their ceremony last month.

“I know we had a lot of people up in heaven shining on us that day,” she recalled. “It was magical in the sense that we saw a double rainbow, two ladybugs and two white doves… We honor everybody who wasn’t there that day.”

Bethenny Frankel Spills Secrets on Sports Illustrated Runway Prep and Weighs In on GLP-1 Craze

Bethenny Frankel recently opened up about her stance on using a GLP-1 receptor agonist, sharing insights into her preparations for the high-profile Sports Illustrated Swimsuit event.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on Tuesday, June 9, the former star of Real Housewives of New York City expressed her openness to trying such medications if needed, stating, “If I needed it, I would, I would try it.” Frankel explained that although her weight has remained consistent over the years, aging brings changes like menopause or hormonal shifts that might make some women consider additional help.

Frankel also mentioned hearing discussions about the broader benefits of these medications, underscoring her belief that, “As long as it’s healthy,” she supports individuals choosing weight loss aids. She emphasized, “Whatever works for you,” and advocated for moderation in usage.

The conversation around Ozempic, a drug initially intended for treating Type 2 diabetes, has gained momentum in the weight loss community. Some celebrities have publicly acknowledged using it, while others have denied such claims. Notably, Chelsea Handler confessed during a January 2023 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that she had inadvertently taken the medication.

Ozempic has become a hot topic when it comes to weight loss — with some stars confirming they have used the drug while others denied it. Chelsea Handler admitted during a January 2023 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that she unknowingly took the Type 2 diabetes medication, which is traditionally used to improve […]

However, the Skinnygirl founder is not in support of the drug taking “over” peoples’ lives. “I know people that are malnourished from it and can take it too far,” she told Us. “There are examples of it not being [healthy].”

To get toned for the show, Frankel told Us she “did some of the SofWave [for skin lifting in her face and body] and PureImpact treatments.”

“I did that a couple of times before last year’s show, and then before this year’s show. I know that you feel sore after it … I’m doing more than I used to, because everybody got in my head,” Frankel shared.

She also “walked four times a week,” which helped tone her “arms and a little bit [her] butt,” as well as “abs.”

“I’m not trying to mess with anything,” she told Us, noting that she eats non-bloating foods including smoothies and has “creatine drink packets,” which is good for building muscle.

While Frankel has not experimented with GLP-1s, other celebrities have been candid about their use of weight loss drugs.

Stars including Kelly Clarkson, Amy Schumer, Rebel Wilson, Brooks Nader, Serena Williams and more have been candid about their use of the medication.

Take Nader, 28, for example, who walked in the Sports Illustrated runway show during Miami Swim Week with Frankel. She previously opened up to Us about her GLP-1 “addiction” in December 2025, sharing, “When I was vocal about it, I was truly just in a vulnerable moment, and I’m appreciative that so many women have reached out to me with similar struggles.”

She added, “I feel like that’s what it’s all about: why we do [Love Thy Nader], why we open up, is to have community, because us women have to stick together. There’s a lot that goes on that we handle, that we carry on our shoulders.”

Trump Halts Iran Peace Negotiations Over Delays: A Blow to Diplomatic Progress

0

Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, stating they will “pay the price” for not reaching a peace agreement after prolonged discussions.

In a statement on Truth Social, Trump criticized Iran’s military capabilities, saying, “Iran’s Military is in shambles. Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, is practically nonexistent now—they’ve been thoroughly defeated. Iran is all talk and no action. The Middle East bully is gone!”

He further commented, “They’ve dragged their feet on a deal that would have been beneficial to them, and now they’ll face the consequences!”

Trump’s remarks follow a series of strikes he authorized against Iran. These strikes were in response to the downing of an Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz. Both pilots survived the incident, which Trump described as a “miracle,” noting that an Iranian drone became lodged between the pilots without detonating.

A senior U.S. official revealed to Fox News Digital that on Tuesday night, 20 targets within Iran were successfully struck.

On Wednesday, Trump indicated that he might direct the US military to strike Iranian infrastructure, specifically bridges and power plants.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump explained that the potential escalation comes because Iran’s leadership has delayed progress on peace negotiations.

‘I may keep going,’ Trump stated. ‘They had a chance to sign a deal and survive.’

He further noted that Tehran has merely been ‘tapping the US along’ in discussions that have ultimately yielded few results.

In a separate post today, Trump slammed the ‘fake news’ media, claiming it ‘refuses to report how effective the US Naval blockade is.’

He continued: ‘Nothing gets through unless we want it to. It is a steel wall!

Trump proceeded to call Iran a ‘failed nation,’ claiming Tehran ‘is doing zero business, not paying their military, or any of their bills,’ finishing the post with a ‘Praise be to Allah!’

This escalation in US tone comes after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps promised a ‘decisive response to the US aggression’, according to the Tasnim news agency.

The US and Iran have been locked in a stalemate for weeks, with Trump insisting that a peace deal is close, only for it to fall apart.

Trump remains adamant that Iran must give up its nuclear ambitions, while Tehran has demanded that any deal must include a truce in Lebanon.

US Central Command said Tuesday that it launched ‘self-defense strikes against Iran’ at Trump’s direction in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter with two pilots – both unharmed. The Apache is the second crewed aircraft shot down by Iran during the war, following the loss of an F-15 fighter jet in April.

‘The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression.’

Fighter jets from the U.S. Air Force and Navy targeted ‘air defense, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites’ in Iran, which acknowledged strikes around Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, but gave no details on the damage.

The US airstrikes prompted a fresh wave of attacks from Tehran, with strikes targeting sites in Bahrain and Kuwait, which both sounded alerts and fired air defenses in response.

Iranian forces ‘will leave no attack or threat unanswered,’ Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on X. ‘Leave our region if you want to be safe.’

Jordan also reported shooting down five missiles that Iran shot at an air base hosting US forces.

Over the weekend, Iran launched missiles at Israel after it attacked Tehran’s proxy terror group Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Israel retaliated, but the two sides agreed to halt attacks on Monday after Trump’s demand for the strikes to stop.

Iranian state media reported on Tuesday that three people including two members of the Army Air Defense Force were killed in the Israeli strikes.

No deaths were reported in Israel following the exchange.

They also reported early Tuesday that Tehran’s international airport, closed during the missile exchanges, had reopened, allowing flights carrying hajj pilgrims from Saudi Arabia to land.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

World Cup 2026 Group C: In-Depth Analysis, Betting Predictions & Team Profiles

0

Group C in the World Cup promises thrilling matchups, with Brazil and Morocco emerging as the group’s titans, while Scotland brings along its vibrant and devoted fan base. This group is expected to deliver some of the most exciting matches in the tournament’s early phase.

Here’s a detailed preview of Group C.

The teams are listed in the order we predict they’ll finish.

Morocco

Odds to win the group: +350

What you need to know: Walid Regragui’s resignation from the manager’s post following defeat to Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final — changed to a forfeit victory months later in a highly controversial decision — brought home just how far Moroccan football has come, and how high the expectations are going into this World Cup. Regragui’s side, which went to the 2022 World Cup semifinals, hadn’t lost a game since 2023, and he still lost his job. Mohamed Ouahbi, who previously helmed Morocco’s U20 and U23 squads — he did win the U20 World Cup last year — took over less than 100 days from the World Cup.

How they play: Morocco’s run to the 2022 semifinals was the best result in history for an African team at the World Cup and reset the bar. This tournament is as good a chance as any team from the continent has ever had to better that result, largely because of the Atlas Lions. With players such as Achraf Hakimi, Hakim Ziyech, Noussair Mazraoui, Brahim Díaz and Sofyan Amrabat, Morocco has a terrific core. They can win in a variety of ways, too — building out from the back, beating teams in wide areas, pressing high, playing deep.

Star player: Morocco has a deep, well-balanced squad, but Hakimi, their right back and captain, can lay claim to being their best player. A speedy two-way player, Hakimi has a strong record of performance for the Atlas Lions as well as at the club level for Paris Saint-Germain. Along with Ziyech, Hakimi holds the record for most World Cup games played by a Moroccan national with 10.

World Cup history: Prior to 2022, there wasn’t much of note. Morocco had made the knockout rounds just once, falling in the Round of 16 in 1986, and didn’t qualify from 2002-2018. The country’s golden generation, though, produced a result beyond their wildest dreams in Qatar. Another strong result before Morocco co-hosts the event in 2030 is very much the expectation.

Brazil

Odds: -310

What you need to know: As you would expect, Brazil brings an incredibly talented squad. From goal on out, nearly every player is world-class: Alisson, Gabriel Magalhães, Marquinhos, Raphinha, Casemiro, Vinícius Júnior, Gabriel Martinelli, Matheus Cunha, Endrick, Bruno Guimarães — Brazil will be leaving players at home who could easily start for most other teams in the tournament. Manager Carlo Ancelotti’s task is to balance egos and make it all work on the pitch, something Brazil, which last won a major trophy all the way back at the 2019 Copa America, has struggled to do lately.

How they play: Ancelotti’s great strength is his tactical flexibility. He’s evolved across a club career in which he’s won five Champions League titles as well as championships in all Big Five European leagues. The World Cup opener will be just his 13th game in charge of Brazil after the federation had a somewhat chaotic four-year cycle, so he’s still in the process of putting his stamp on the side. Broadly speaking, Brazil has played out of a 4-2-3-1 under him.

Star player: Vinícius Júnior, the Real Madrid winger widely rated as one of the best players in the world. Highly skilled and technically brilliant, Vinícius has dominated La Liga and the Champions League ever since moving from Flamengo to Madrid in 2018. What he hasn’t done is translate that performance to the Seleção, where he’s scored just eight times in 45 caps. Expectations for him, and for Brazil as a whole, will be incredibly high this summer.

World Cup history: Brazil is the king of the competition, having won it five times, three of those coming in a golden 12-year run from 1958-1970. The last time the competition was in the U.S. in 1994, Brazil beat Italy on penalties at the Rose Bowl to win, and took a fifth title eight years later, a record that still stands. Since that 2002 triumph, though, it’s been messier. Brazil has lost in the quarterfinals in four of the past five World Cups — and the lone exception was in 2014, when it suffered a disastrous 7-1 defeat to Germany in the semis.

Scotland

Odds: 10/1

What you need to know: Scotland’s traveling fans, known as the Tartan Army, are famous for their geniality and for traveling in large numbers. This summer, they’ll get to support what’s likely the best team the country has boasted in some time. Behind Scott McTominay, star left back Andy Robertson and midfielder John McGinn, Scotland qualified without needing to go through the playoffs. While they lack high-end goalscorers in their forward corps, Scotland’s midfield and work ethic make them a tough team to beat.

How they play: Steve Clarke has managed Scotland since 2019, and qualified it for two European Championships along with this World Cup, its first since 1998. He’s switched tactics a number of times over the years, but expect a 3-4-2-1 formation that functions as a back five and lends itself to counterattacking. His team also functions well in a high press.

Star player: McTominay, a box-to-box central midfielder who’s broken out as a superstar since leaving Manchester United two years ago for Italian side Napoli. The 29-year-old won Serie A’s Footballer of the Year award his first season in the league, and he has a flair for dramatic late goals. A native of Lancaster, England, he chose to play for Scotland — where his father is from — after then-manager Alex McLeish made the case to him in 2018.

World Cup history: If they can get through the group stage this summer — which seems possible given the expanded format — it would mark Scotland’s best-ever performance on a World Cup stage. The Scots have qualified eight times prior, but never made it out of the group, and their last time playing in a World Cup was a generation ago, all the way back in 1998.

Haiti

Odds: 120/1

What you need to know: There’s no doubt Haiti is the underdog of this group, but with a large diaspora community on the East Coast — where they’ll play and set up base camp in New Jersey — their games should at least be a pretty loud party. Natives, though, won’t be in attendance. Haiti is one of four countries at the World Cup, along with Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Iran, on President Trump’s travel ban list. In fact, manager Sébastien Migné has never set foot in Haiti, as a result of the ongoing conflict that’s forced the national team to play home games in Curaçao.

How they play: Expect Haiti to sit back in a defensive shape with four at the back and try to pick and choose opportunities on the counterattack. That’s part out of necessity — Haiti will be a heavy underdog in all three of its games — but it worked well enough to get through CONCACAF qualifying, including wins over Costa Rica and Honduras. Players such as strikers Wilson Isidor and Duckens Nazon add some quality in attack.

Star player: Isidor, who plays for Sunderland in the Premier League, has put together a solid year domestically and is likely Haiti’s biggest player in terms of name recognition. Goalkeeper Johny Placide, though, wears the captain’s armband and has 79 career caps for the national team, having helped Haiti to a surprise semifinal run in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

World Cup history: Haiti’s lone appearance at the competition came in 1974, when they lost three games to Italy, Poland and Argentina to exit in the group stage. The country does have a 1973 CONCACAF championship to its name, as well as a Gold Cup semifinal in 2019 and a Caribbean Cup championship in 2007.

Bill Gates Set to Testify: Key Figure in Congressional Probe into Jeffrey Epstein Connections

WASHINGTON (AP) — On Wednesday, Bill Gates is set to testify before a congressional committee examining the Jeffrey Epstein documents, marking him as the latest high-profile individual connected to the disgraced financier to provide testimony.

The House Oversight Committee plans to conduct a private session with the billionaire and Microsoft co-founder, similar to its approach with other witnesses involved in the inquiry. Typically, transcripts of these sessions are made public afterward.

Committee Chairman, Republican U.S. Representative James Comer, officially requested Gates’ testimony following the frequent appearance of his name in a collection of documents released by the Justice Department as part of its investigation into Epstein.

The documents resemble a directory of influential men spanning the tech, finance, and political worlds, among others. Although all have denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein’s illegal activities, some continued or initiated relationships with him even after his criminal past was exposed.

Among the evidence are entries on Epstein’s calendar scheduling meetings with Gates, email exchanges regarding charitable ventures, and photographs capturing Gates at events attended by Epstein.

Their professional relationship began in 2011, three years after Epstein pleaded guilty in Florida to soliciting prostitution from a minor, and lasted until at least late 2014, according to the documents.

Epstein was federally indicted in July 2019 on charges of sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors. The Justice Department alleged that Epstein formed a vast network of underage girls, some as young as 14, for him to sexually abuse between 2002 and 2005. He died by suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial.

Gates, who chairs the Gates Foundation, has not been accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein and has denied any knowledge of Epstein’s abuse of girls. He has said they met only to discuss philanthropy and has called his association with Epstein “a huge mistake.”

Both Gates and his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, have said his association with Epstein created tension in their marriage.

The foundation acknowledged in February that a small number of employees had met with Epstein based on his “claims that he could mobilize significant philanthropic resources for global health.” They never created a charitable fund together, and the foundation made no payments to Epstein.

Foundation CEO Mark Suzman commissioned an external review in March to examine its past engagement with Epstein.

At another closed-door deposition in February, former President Bill Clinton faced more than six hours of questioning from lawmakers about his association with Epstein more than two decades ago. Epstein had visited the White House several times during Clinton’s presidency, and Clinton flew occasionally on Epstein’s private jet.

The former Democratic president said he had seen no signs of Epstein’s sexual abuse and stopped associating with him long before Epstein’s 2008 guilty plea. Clinton has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.

Democrats on the House committee have pushed for testimony from President Donald Trump, a Republican who had his own relationship with Epstein. Republicans have said they have not come across any evidence that Trump did anything wrong during his well-documented friendship with Epstein.

Tragic Loss: 16-Year-Old Carriage Horse Passes Away in Central Park

0

A tragic incident unfolded in New York City’s Central Park on Tuesday when a 16-year-old carriage horse passed away, as confirmed by the city’s police department.

Authorities received a report of a horse’s death near Central Park West and 72nd Street at 7:29 p.m. The horse-drawn carriage was carrying two passengers at the time of the unfortunate event.

“While out for a run, I witnessed a horse struggling to breathe on the ground, and then it sadly stopped breathing,” recounted Clara Bermudez, a witness to the incident.

According to the Transport Workers Union Local 100, the horse, affectionately known as Deniz, was cherished by those who cared for him. In March, the NYPD Mounted Unit’s veterinarian had examined Deniz and declared him healthy.

Eric Loegel from TWU Local 100 expressed, “Tragically, horses, much like other domestic animals, can suffer from sudden and severe health issues.”

Deniz will be taken for a full necropsy by the pathology department of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine to determine the cause of death.

It’s a contentious divide between animal rights groups and those who support horse drawn carriages.

“I just was walking my dog and see a dead horse on the path on my walk home. And again, this is the second incident that I’ve seen in 10 months,” Danielle Leean Chin said.

“For these people to come and just accuse him of mistreating his animal, that helps him feed his children is revolting,” Christine Hansen said.

PETA Director Ashley Byrne responded to the incident with a statement saying, “If City Council needed a sign that the time is now to pass Ryder’s Law, this is it. How many more horses must collapse and die on New York City streets before this deadly horse-drawn carriage industry is put out to pasture?”

Animal Rights Groups have been trying to ban carriage rides for years.

Even before this latest casualty, they were planning a rally at city hall for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the rides remain a popular attraction for tourists.

Unraveling the Tragic Mystery: Why Christina Grimmie’s Murder Still Haunts the Music World

0

Though it has been ten years since Christina Grimmie’s tragic passing, her story remains a powerful reminder of the dangers faced by public figures.

The talented 22-year-old singer, known for her time on The Voice, was fatally shot on June 10, 2016, by Kevin Loibl, who then took his own life.

Grimmie’s untimely death, similar to those of Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla and actress Rebecca Schaeffer, continues to ignite discussions about the complex relationship between celebrities and their fans.

As we reflect on Christina’s brief but impactful career, we are reminded of the profound loss felt by her community and fans following her tragic death.

Who was Christina Grimmie?

In 2009, the New Jersey native began posting renditions of hit songs to her YouTube channel, which has nearly 4 million subscribers. Sitting at a keyboard in her bedroom, she played piano while singing covers of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Sia and Demi Lovato.

Her rise to fame, fueled by videos that garnered millions of views, led to a mentorship with Selena Gomez, who took Christina under her wing during her tours.

“When she was 14, we met her and my parents and I signed her,” Selena remembered in a tearful tribute the day after Christina’s murder, according to Billboard. “One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her. And I think it’s not about a religion and it’s not about anything or good deeds. It’s just that she had faith.”

Then, in 2014, Christina landed on season six of The Voice, blowing away the coaches with her performance of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.” When all four chairs turned, Christina picked Adam Levine.

“People come out here and they sing. You never know what to expect,” the Maroon 5 frontman told Christina after her debut. “You’re more comfortable than I am up there. That is the moment where you realize that this person can be a huge star.”

Two years after coming in third place on the singing competition series, Christina announced that she was hitting the road with Before You Exit for the band’s All The Lights tour.

Their third-to-last concert stop was at the Plaza Live in Orlando, where Christina would have a standard meet-and-greet event with fans after the show.

How did Kevin Loibl kill Christina Grimmie?

As Christina signed autographs, Kevin Loibl produced a pistol and shot Christina in the head at close range, per an Orlando Police Department report obtained by CNN.

The 27-year-old was immediately tackled by Christina’s brother Marcus Grimmie, who was manning his sister’s merch table nearby.

“She would always open up with a hug, because that’s how some shy kids like to interact—and someone pulls out a gun,” Marcus recalled on a 2024 episode of the Dead Talks podcast. “My head is like, ‘Is this a prank? What’s going on?’ Then, I see my sister is on the ground.”

Once the scene registered with Marcus, he snapped into action and tackled Kevin.

“I just run at him. I’m fighting with this guy, get the gun away from him,” he added. “We both go to the ground. Next thing I know, he has a gun in his hand. He just backs up against the wall and he kills himself.”

Christina, 22, was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead just before midnight.

What did police learn about Christina Grimmie’s killer Kevin Loibl?

Kevin arrived at the venue carrying two handguns, two additional magazines and a large hunting knife, Orlando Police Chief John Mina revealed at a press conference June 11. The Chief also noted that while Plaza Live did have security, the personnel were unarmed and attendees did not have to walk through metal detectors upon entering.

“People are not patted down,” Mina said of the venue’s protocols. “I’m told that the security measures in place are the people open their bags and the security people look inside those bags for weapons.”

Investigators discovered that Kevin lived in St. Petersburg, Florida, and was employed by Best Buy in their signature Geek Squad department, according to the police report shared by CNN. A police forensic team attempted to extract data from his cell phone but learned it had been encrypted and that he had intentionally destroyed his computer’s hard drive.

While authorities searched Kevin’s hotel room, a taxi driver arrived—per the report—who revealed Kevin had hired him for a round-trip to Orlando and was expecting to drive him back to St. Petersburg on June 11.

Authorities also said that one of Kevin’s friends claimed he had wanted to enhance his physical appearance—with teeth whitening, hair implants and undergoing LASIK eye surgery—in order to impress Christina, according to the report. The friend added that Kevin watched Christina’s YouTube videos constantly and regularly monitored her social media accounts.

Meanwhile, while Marcus and his family were preparing to lay Christina to rest, another tragedy hit. In the early hours of June 12, a gunman killed 49 people at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando (it was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history until 2017’s shooting in Las Vegas, where 60 people were left dead).

“We’re preparing to transport the body and Pulse nightclub shooting happens. I just remember thinking, ‘Wow, it’s just like the end of the world,’” Marcus detailed on the Dead Talks podcast. “Orlando is now up in arms. This is the biggest mass shooting to date, happening two days after my sister was killed. It was just a lot.”

How did Hollywood react to Christina Grimmie’s murder?

As news broke of Christina’s death, celebrities shared their stunned reactions, from her earliest champions to high-profile admirers from afar.

Selena wrote on X, “My heart is absolutely broken. I miss you Christina.”

Meanwhile, Zendaya wrote, “Wow….sending all my love to her family and friends, rest up angel,” and Dove Cameron said, “Hardly slept at all last night. Can’t turn my brain off. #RIPChristina.”

Adam, who later covered the costs for Christina’s funeral—per E! News—was gutted by the sudden loss of his former Voice mentee.

“Behati [Prinsloo] and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s tragic death,” he wrote on Facebook. “Our hearts go out to her family. Christina was a natural, a gifted talent that comes along so rarely. She was taken from us too soon. This is yet another senseless act of extreme violence. I am left stunned and confused how these things can conceivably continue to happen in our world.”

The Christina Grimmie Foundation

In the wake of Christina’s death, her loved ones created The Christina Grimmie Foundation, pledging, “To create a community of empathy and support for families affected by the devastating effects of gun violence.”

“Our goal is to honor the victims and to support their families by offering tangible services to help them while they face the aftermath,” the organization says on its website. “The Foundation fosters a community of support, receives donations, organizes fundraising events, and works directly with the families to provide services and a support system.”
