Boost Your Core: Top 5 Standing Ab Exercises for Fast Results After 50

After reaching the age of 50, developing strong abdominal and core muscles goes beyond achieving a toned appearance. Your core plays a vital role in everyday activities: it stabilizes your body while carrying weight, maintains balance as you walk, manages rotation when you turn, and supports your spine when you move your limbs. For these reasons, standing ab exercises can be a significant improvement over traditional workouts performed on gym machines.

Machines in the gym often restrict your movement to a fixed path, eliminating the need for balance, posture, and comprehensive body control—key elements your core relies on in real-life scenarios. By engaging in standing core exercises, you put your midsection in charge. This involves holding weight, resisting the urge to lean, managing rotation, and maintaining an upright posture under pressure. Such exercises compel your abs, obliques, hips, shoulders, and upper back to work in unison.

As a coach focused on core training, my priority is ensuring control before fatigue takes over. Can you maintain stacked ribs? Are you able to carry weight without tilting as you walk? Can you rotate your torso without pulling excessively with your arms? Mastering these nuances transforms simple movements into challenging abdominal workouts.

Gym machines often lock you into one path and take away the balance, posture, and full-body control your abs need in real life. Standing core work puts your midsection back in charge. You’re holding weight, resisting leaning, controlling rotation, and staying tall under tension. That forces your abs, obliques, hips, shoulders, and upper back to work together.

When I coach core work, I’m looking for control before fatigue sets in. Can you keep your ribs stacked? Can you walk with weight without tilting? Can you rotate through your torso without yanking from your arms? Those details turn basic movements into serious ab work.

The five exercises below train your abs while you stand, walk, carry, rotate, and brace. Goblet hold marching challenges your core and balance. Woodchops train rotational control. Farmer carries and suitcase carries build loaded core strength. Dumbbell side bends target the obliques when you move with control and avoid rushing the reps.

Goblet Hold Marching

Goblet hold marching trains your abs, hip flexors, glutes, and shoulders while your core keeps your torso tall. Holding a weight at your chest forces your midsection to brace, and lifting one knee at a time challenges your balance with every rep. The movement builds ab strength because your core has to control your ribs, pelvis, and posture while your legs move. That carryover helps with walking, stairs, stepping over objects, and staying steady when one foot leaves the ground.

Muscles Trained: Abs, hip flexors, glutes, shoulders, core

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell at your chest.
  3. Brace your core and keep your shoulders relaxed.
  4. Lift one knee toward your waist.
  5. Lower your foot with control.
  6. Alternate sides in a steady rhythm.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per leg. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Bodyweight marching, suitcase marching, overhead marching

Form Tip: Stay tall and avoid leaning back as your knee lifts.

Standing Woodchops

Standing woodchops train your abs and obliques through rotation while your hips and shoulders help guide the movement. Your core controls the dumbbell’s path rather than letting momentum swing the weight around. That makes woodchops more useful than many gym ab machines because your body has to rotate, brace, and stay balanced at the same time. Stronger rotational control helps with turning, reaching across your body, yard work, and athletic movements like golf or tennis.

Muscles Trained: Abs, obliques, shoulders, glutes

How to Do It:

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold one dumbbell with both hands.
  2. Bring the dumbbell outside one hip.
  3. Brace your core and rotate the weight across your body.
  4. Finish with the dumbbell above your opposite shoulder.
  5. Return to the starting position with control.
  6. Complete all reps, then switch sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: High-to-low woodchops, band woodchops, cable woodchops

Form Tip: Turn through your hips and torso together, rather than twisting your lower back.

Farmer Carry

Farmer carries train your abs, grip, shoulders, traps, and upper back while your whole body works to stay tall under load. Holding weight in both hands forces your core to brace so your posture doesn’t collapse as you walk. This builds practical ab strength because your midsection has to stabilize your body step after step. Farmer carries also carry over well to real life since carrying groceries, luggage, tools, or yard supplies all ask your core to stay strong while your body moves.

Muscles Trained: Abs, grip, shoulders, upper back, glutes

How to Do It:

  1. Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell in each hand.
  2. Stand tall with your shoulders down and back.
  3. Brace your core before you walk.
  4. Take controlled steps forward.
  5. Keep your chest lifted and your posture steady.
  6. Turn around carefully or set the weights down with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 carries of 30 to 45 seconds. Rest for 60 seconds between each carry.

Best Variations: Heavier carries, slower carries, trap bar carries

Form Tip: Walk tall and avoid letting the weights pull your shoulders forward.

Suitcase Carry

Suitcase carries train your abs and obliques by loading one side of your body at a time. The weight tries to pull you sideways, and your core has to resist that lean with every step. That makes the suitcase carry one of the best standing ab exercises after 50 because it trains the exact bracing you need when carrying something unevenly. Stronger anti-lean strength helps with bags, groceries, stairs, posture, and keeping your torso steady during daily movement.

Muscles Trained: Abs, obliques, grip, shoulders, glutes

How to Do It:

  1. Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell in one hand.
  2. Stand tall with your shoulders level.
  3. Brace your core and keep your ribs down.
  4. Walk forward with controlled steps.
  5. Avoid leaning toward the weight.
  6. Switch hands and repeat on the other side.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 carries of 30 to 45 seconds per side. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between carries.

Best Variations: Lighter suitcase carry, heavier suitcase carry, suitcase march

Form Tip: Keep your shoulders level and walk like someone is watching your posture.

Dumbbell Side Bends

Dumbbell side bends train your obliques while your abs help control the movement. The key is to move slowly and keep the range clean. Your side body lowers and lifts the weight without twisting, jerking, or letting your hips shift around. When performed with control, side bends strengthen the muscles that help you resist leaning, carry weight, and support your waist during everyday movement.

Muscles Trained: Obliques, abs, grip

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Hold one dumbbell at your side.
  3. Brace your core and keep your shoulders level.
  4. Lower the dumbbell down your thigh with control.
  5. Use your obliques to return to standing tall.
  6. Complete all reps, then switch sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Lighter side bends, slower tempo side bends, suitcase hold

Form Tip: Move straight side to side and avoid rotating your torso.

How to Get More Out of Standing Ab Work

Standing ab exercises work best when your posture stays sharp and the weight stays under control. The goal is to brace, move, carry, and rotate without letting your ribs flare, shoulders slump, or hips drift around. Keep the loads challenging, but choose weights you can control from start to finish.

  • Brace before you move: Set your midsection before each march, chop, carry, or bend. A strong brace keeps the work in your abs rather than shifting it into your lower back.
  • Use carries often: Farmer carries and suitcase carries build the kind of core strength you use every day. They also train grip, posture, and full-body tension simultaneously.
  • Control rotation: Woodchops work best when your torso guides the weight. Slow reps help your abs and obliques control the movement, rather than momentum taking over.
  • Pick the right load: The weight should feel challenging without pulling you out of position. If your posture changes, go lighter and clean up the rep.
  • Train both sides evenly: Suitcase carries, woodchops, and side bends can expose strength gaps. Give each side the same attention and keep the weaker side honest.

Standing ab work should make your core feel useful, not just tired. Build strength through carries, marches, rotations, and controlled bends, and your abs will support you better in the gym and everywhere else.

Florida’s Congressional Map Advances Following Circuit Court Judge’s Decision

0

In late April, Florida undertook a significant redrawing of its congressional map, prompted by Governor Ron DeSantis. This move coincided with the Supreme Court’s decision in the Louisiana v. Callais case. As it stands, Republicans control 20 out of Florida’s 28 congressional seats. Should the new map withstand ongoing legal challenges, it could grant them as many as four additional seats in the forthcoming midterm elections.

This past Wednesday marked a pivotal moment in the legal battles surrounding the map. A recent court ruling has nudged Florida closer to implementing this controversial new map:

On Wednesday, a ruling was handed down in a lawsuit filed over the map, a ruling that effectively puts the Sunshine State one step closer to being able to use it:

A Florida judge refused Tuesday to block a recently adopted congressional map that could net Republicans four extra seats in Congress from the Sunshine State.

The decision by Circuit Judge Joshua Hawkes, appointed to the bench by Gov. Ron DeSantis, doesn’t end the legal battle. But it greatly increases the likelihood that the map will be in place for the 2026 midterms while the underlying challenge continues.

[…]

The judge contended one reason to keep the new map — which was passed late last month by the GOP-controlled Legislature — was to avoid confusion ahead of the upcoming elections. Qualifying for congressional and state elections takes place the second week of June, and the primary will be held on Aug. 18.

DCLM Daily Manna 27 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Jewels Of His Crown

TOPIC: Jewels Of His Crown (DCLM Daily Manna 27 May 2026)

KEY VERSE: And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. – Malachi 3:17

TEXT: Malachi 3:13-18 (KJV)

13 Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?

14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?

15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Throughout generations, a remnant has always been found even in the darkest era, and God notices and evidently blesses them.

Running through the Book of Malachi is a thread of conversations between the loving, longsuffering Elohim and a lawless lip-serving, egg-headed people. While God’s love would not let go a recalcitrant unrepentant nation that had experienced God’s mercy firsthand, the people would not let go what the Lord hates. God was engrossed in correcting, convicting and calling rebellious Israel to return, but they were engaged in plunging deeper into filth and the stench of sin and corruption.

The text shows the wholehearted word from the Lord sent to His halfhearted worshippers who delighted in living in denial and querying the rationale behind God’s rebuke. The instruction is unmistakable: “Return, repent and accept my love with wholehearted obedience.” Today, as in the days of Malachi, many believers are also lukewarm in their faith. While they profess to serve and love God, they actually fix their focus and preference in life on themselves. And as they grapple with their self-inflicted challenges, they impugn God’s love and faithfulness in their hearts.

The Lord, however, does not change. He reaffirmed His promises to the faithful few saints in contrast to the sceptical majority. While the ungodly were uttering hard sayings, those who feared God remained bonded in a lateral relationship, defended God’s dealings, and encouraged one another to love and trust Him. They also had a vertical relationship, effected in their fellowship in the Spirit with God and obedience to His word.

In His omniscience, God knows and notes those who serve Him; He keeps their record in the book of remembrance.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God’s ultimate aim is to transform vilest offenders who repent into jewels of immeasurable value.

GPD Prioritizes Domestic Violence with Mayor Ward Advocating for a Public Health Strategy

Mayor Harvey Ward speaks about taking a public health approach to domestic violence at the May 21 Gainesville City Commission meeting

During a morning session on May 21, the Gainesville City Commission gathered to hear the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) present its quarterly report. A significant announcement from the department included their strategic focus on curbing domestic violence by the year 2026.

GPD Chief Nelson Moya took the opportunity to introduce a new priority for the department’s 2026 mission: targeting domestic and dating violence. This initiative joins the existing priorities of tackling violent crime, enhancing traffic safety, strengthening homeless outreach, and boosting police recruitment efforts.

Crime Statistics

From GPD presentation on May 21

Analyzing the period between 2024 and 2025, the data revealed a promising trend: incidents of violent crime decreased by 9.98%, while property crimes saw a more significant reduction of 17.64%. Overall, Gainesville experienced a commendable 16.22% decline in crime during this time frame.

Between calendar years 2024 and 2025, violent crime incidents dropped by 9.98% and property crimes dropped by 17.64%, for an overall decrease of 16.22%.

However, the January-March quarter of 2026 included three homicides (two in connection with the Imeca incident and one domestic violence incident), for a 200% increase in homicides. Compared to the same quarter in 2025, rapes increased by 2.78%, robberies increased by 14.29%, and aggravated assaults increased by 3.6%, for an overall increase of 5.37% in violent incidents. Property crimes dropped by 14.08%, for an overall decrease of 10.48% from the same quarter last year.

Click here for the full presentation.

Moya also spoke about the May 1 homicide in the Phoenix community and the shooting and stabbing homicides on Mother’s Day (May 10). The shooting victim was 17 years old, and Moya said GPD has identified a suspect; he said, “It was certainly not a random act of violence… More to come as we continue to discuss this with the State Attorney’s Office and what the ultimate resolution will be, but we have someone identified, for sure.” A suspect was recently arrested for the stabbing homicide.

Domestic violence: “an ongoing steady flow”

Moya said that even before the Mother’s Day shooting, GPD had “highlighted domestic violence as something that we needed to continue to look at now, more deeply.” He said GPD sees “an ongoing steady flow of familial violence, also known as domestic or dating violence,… [and] repeat acts of domestic violence by the same offender.”

Moya said he is putting three detectives back on the Special Victims squad, and one of them will be earmarked for domestic violence to look for any gaps in service between law enforcement, the State Attorney’s Office, Peaceful Paths, domestic violence advocates, and any other organizations involved in responding to domestic violence. He said all the organizations are doing what they’re supposed to, but he wanted to see “what we can do when we focus as a group on all lanes.”

From GPD presentation on May 21

The presentation showed that while domestic violence incidents and arrests have decreased since 2023, the first quarter numbers are on track for an increase in 2026. For example, 252 arrests in the first quarter could indicate that there will be over 1,000 arrests in 2026.

Moya said domestic violence is difficult to prevent because it happens “in one’s most private place,” and victims need to trust that the system will protect them. He said his top goal is to ensure that the victims receive services, then “there may be opportunities for offenders also to receive services, so that they don’t repeat violence.” He said he plans to bring “all of our stakeholders” together for a meeting within the next week.

New emphasis on arresting domestic violence offenders within 12-24 hours

One thing officers can do, Moya said, is make more of an effort to apprehend the offender within 12 to 24 hours after the incident instead of filing a sworn complaint. He said, “I see that as low-hanging fruit, not because I want to arrest people, but because we know if we don’t intervene with an offender who’s already victimized someone in the home, there’s a likelihood that they will return to the home and victimize again and offend again.”

Mayor Harvey Ward: “By putting everything we had to the crisis of gun violence, we had an impact. I believe that we can then take that public health approach and apply it to other issues like domestic violence.”

Mayor Harvey Ward said, “I’m encouraged by the success that we had with calling out gun violence and saying this is a crisis in our community, as it was in nearly every community, by engaging everyone, by not saying this is just a law enforcement issue, but this is a community issue, and we’re all going to work on it. We drove down gun violence numbers, and they continue to be down. Doesn’t mean that all violence is down, but by putting everything we had to the crisis of gun violence, we had an impact. I believe that we can then take that public health approach and apply it to other issues like domestic violence… We have to do whatever we can to reduce violence, and what I hope anyone watching this will hear is that we’re trying to let people know that help is available if you find yourself in this situation, and that abuse will not be ignored.”

Ward said Gainesville should not “take our foot off the gas on [gun violence], but we as a community, every level of the community, need to lean in on domestic violence.” He also said that “half or more” of the homicides over the past two years have involved “some level of domestic violence.”

Ward said, “Thank you for this. It’s tremendous. I’m very hopeful we’ll be able to make real progress here.”

Firearm statistics

From GPD presentation on May 21

Moya said stolen firearms, firearms seized, and shots fired decreased from the last quarter, but the number of persons shot, homicides, and suicides all increased.

Ward said that of the seven people shot, two were accidentally shot in the hands and several were police officers, “so other than those, which are anomalies, we’re kind of in the same territory.”

Commissioner Ed Book: “I hope we’re not seeing [violent offenders] in our community. These are amongst a very small percentage of people who don’t get the benefit of getting a second and third and fourth chance, where most offenders do.”

Commissioner Ed Book said he wanted to see “aggressive prosecution and very few options afforded to the violent offenders… We want to take them out of the community so they can’t victimize others… I know this may sound controversial, but I hope we’re not seeing them in our community. These are amongst a very small percentage of people who don’t get the benefit of getting a second and third and fourth chance, where most offenders do.”

Book added, “We’ve had a really high percentage of domestic violence amongst the houseless community,” and he said he was interested in hearing what “partners that deal with transitional housing and halfway housing and emergency housing” could bring to the table to reduce the incidents.

Traffic fatalities

Sergeant Valdez with the Traffic Unit said there have been four traffic fatalities to date (including April) in 2026, which is “kind of on par,” but she was concerned that hit-and-run crashes have increased: “It seems to be a growing trend of people not stopping after they are in a crash, whether it’s kind of scared or their driver’s license status or the insurance status on the vehicle.”

Recruiting

GPD currently has 27 vacancies for sworn officer positions, and 23 applicants are being actively investigated to be hired. Fifteen conditional job offers have been extended to non-certified officers who will enter the police academy.

Public awareness campaign

In a press release, the City said GPD is also launching a public awareness campaign focused on building healthy relationships, recognizing warning signs, finding local resources and knowing when to seek help.

The press release concluded, “If you suspect someone is being abused, report it. Incidents can be referred to law enforcement by calling GPD’s nonemergency number, (352) 955-1818. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.”

Rhapsody Of Realities 27 May 2026: Affirm God’s Word Over The Nations

Rhapsody Of Realities 27 May 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Affirm God’s Word Over The Nations

TOPIC: Affirm God’s Word Over The Nations (Rhapsody of Realities 27 May 2026)

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

Today, there’re systems and voices in the world that present themselves as guides to the nations, yet their ideas have brought confusion, hardship and economic destruction to many countries. These are organizations that claimed to offer solutions but instead misled leaders, crippled economies, and plunged nations into unnecessary debts.

Many governments, in times of global crisis, followed these voices without discernment, and the results were devastating. The Scripture already warned us about such influences: “They are of the world, therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them” (1 John 4:5).

But thanks be unto God! We’re not helpless spectators in the earth. As the Church of Jesus Christ, we have authority; we rule and we change things. Through prayer and the exercise of our faith, we’re able to dismantle the agenda of darkness. No organisation, ideology, or structure can control the nations as long as we take our place and stand against them in faith.

Our responsibility is to stand in the Spirit and affirm God’s Word over the nations and their leaders. Declare His peace and prosperity over the nations. He told us to do it: Luke 10:5-6, “And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.”

We have amazing authority in His name to bless the nations: “By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted…” (Proverbs 11:11). Through our words of blessing, the cities and nations of the world are exalted. They’re lifted from the thraldom of deception, economic woes and debt into the destinies that God ordained for them.

Through our faith and intercession, the will of God prevails in the earth. Therefore, keep praying for the nations and their leaders. As you do, the forces of darkness and their agendas will be subdued, and righteousness will be established in the nations. Declare that the leaders are not deceived and that divine wisdom guides them to lead their nations out of illegal and oppressive debts, and ungodly control. Hallelujah.

CONFESSION

The nations are delivered from deception, and their leaders receive divine wisdom to promote and establish the righteousness of God in their lands. The agenda of the enemy for the nations of the world is frustrated and by the authority of the Name of the Lord Jesus, the triumph of Christ is enforced in every nation. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

James 5:16 (AMPC) Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

1 John 4:4-5 (KJV) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. [5] They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (KJV) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; [2] For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. [3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; [4] Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

NASA Announces Ambitious Six-Year Plan to Establish Lunar Settlement

0

Imagine a city-sized outpost on the moon—once the realm of science fiction, now edging closer to reality. NASA has announced an ambitious plan to construct such a base within the next six years, a move that promises to reshape our relationship with space.

Nasa’s administrator, Jarred Isaacman, revealed at a press conference on Tuesday that the initial missions for this $20 billion endeavor could commence as soon as this year. His words painted a picture of a bold new frontier, referring to the project as “one of the most ambitious engineering and exploration efforts in human history.”

“America is returning to the moon,” Isaacman proclaimed. “And this time, to stay.” This declaration underscores the permanence and groundbreaking nature of the lunar base initiative.

The plan includes a comprehensive roadmap that lays out a three-stage timeline, with the ultimate goal of establishing a permanent lunar colony by 2032. This endeavor promises to not only push the boundaries of human exploration but also to solidify our presence on the moon in a way that could redefine space exploration for generations to come.

Mr Isaacman revealed a detailed roadmap for the lunar colony, outlining a three–stage timeline working towards establishing a permanent lunar colony by 2032.

Eventually, the base will include multiple buildings covering hundreds of square miles in ‘one of the most demanding and dangerous environments imaginable’.

Describing the endeavour to build a settlement in such inhospitable conditions, Isaacman said the Moon base would be ‘as beautiful as it is hostile’.

He added: ‘What we are embarking upon is extremely challenging. We know so little from what is a combined 80 hours of lunar astronaut EVA time across the Apollo missions half a century ago.’

The base would cover hundreds of square miles in an environment where temperatures can range from more than 480 degrees Fahrenheit to minus -1200 degrees

The base would cover hundreds of square miles in an environment where temperatures can range from more than 480 degrees Fahrenheit to minus –1200 degrees

Stage one of the moon base timeline, dubbed the ‘Learn, Test, Build’ phase, will begin later this year and run until 2029.

Over the next three years, NASA aims to oversee an increasing number of commercial lunar missions to scout potential landing areas and test new technology.

This new phase of lunar exploration will begin no earlier than this autumn as Jeff Bezos Blue Origin company launches the Blue Moon Mark 1 lander, Endurance.

The lander will touchdown near the moon’s South Pole on the rim of the Shackleton crater, delivering scientific equipment and testing its landing capabilities.

This will be followed in the later months of 2026 as NAS uses Astrobotic’s Griffin lander and Intuitive Machines’ Nova–C Trinity lander to send a rover built by Astrolab.

By the end of this first stage, NASA plans to use a fleet of MoonFall helicopter drones and uncrewed rovers to scout the South Pole region for water and other resources.

From 2029 to 2032, NASA will enter the next phase dubbed ‘Early Habitation’, sending the first human crews to live on the lunar surface.

This phase will see the delivery of up to 60 tons of cargo through as many as 24 landings, building out the nascent moon base’s basic infrastructure.

The base, which will be powered by nuclear and solar energy, is expected to cost more than $20million

NASA’s moon base timeline

Phase One: 2026 to 2029

  • A major increase in lunar activity, with up to 25 missions, including 21 landings
  • Early demonstrations of power, navigation, communications, and nuclear radioisotope heater unit technologies designed to endure the long lunar night.
  • See more Daily Mail on Google – save us as a Preferred Source

Phase Two: 2029 to 2032

  • Early habitation of human crews
  • Delivery of up to 60 tons of cargo through as many as 24 landings
  • Deployment of expanded solar power systems and initial nuclear surface power capabilities

Phase Three: 2032 onwards

  • Permanent moon base established with routine crew rotations
  • Delivery of up to 38 tons of cargo annually to sustain habitats, power systems, logistics operations

NASA says this will also include the first nuclear power systems to provide a reliable energy source for the lunar outpost.

Astronauts may even be sent pressurised rovers, allowing them to work out of their space suits for up to 30 days while exploring the South Pole region.

Finally, in 2032, NASA will transition into the final ‘Sustained Human Presence’ phase, establishing a permanent base with routine crew rotations and established infrastructure.

Mr Isaacman said ‘We are moving with the competence and the purpose to accomplish the missions that only NASA is capable of achieving, and we are really just getting started.

‘People are looking up again, believing in big things again and paying attention as America returns to the moon again — and this time to stay,

NASA has been accelerating its lunar program – which is itself a stepping stone to the agency’s ultimate goal of sending crews to live on Mars.

The latest plans come a month after four astronauts on the Artemis II craft achieved record feats during their ten–day mission, notably travelling deeper into space than any human had gone before.

Dr Lori Glaze of NASA’s exploration systems development mission directorate said: ‘The incredible success of the Artemis II mission has taken NASA from proving what is possible to making the extraordinary routine.

‘Moon base will be home base for our Artemis crew and will encompass long–duration stays, expanded robotic and human capabilities and an enduring presence on the lunar surface.’

‘With Moon Base, Artemis astronauts will stay longer, explore farther, and conduct the kinds of science that advance exploration itself, understanding how humans operate off–world, how we build infrastructure, and how we prepare for Mars.’

This comes after NASA unveiled a major restructuring of the agency’s organisational structure to ‘accelerate mission delivery’.

This includes a significant push towards using a wider range of commercial enterprises to provide rockers, landers, and probes for scientific missions.

On Monday, Blue Origin won the first contract of the project to make lunar terrain vehicles in a deal worth $188 million, which could rise to $270 million.

Isaacman stressed in the briefing that the goal of the moon base is to encourage a lunar economy as well as simultaneously conducting scientific research and working toward a Mars expedition, CBS News reported.

‘For those waiting patiently, the grand return is close at hand and we will not slow down,’ he added. ‘We are really just getting started.’

Australian Families Linked to ISIS Return from Syria: Key Details and Implications

0

In Brief

  • The home affairs minister says members of the group accused of committing a crime will face the “full force of the law”.
  • Three women from the cohort who returned earlier this month have been charged.

After enduring years of harsh conditions in the al-Roj camp located in northern Syria, a group of women and children connected to the Islamic State group has made their way back to Australia.

The Australian government has verified the arrival of seven women and 12 children who have ties to IS in Syria. A flight carrying two women and seven children touched down in Melbourne shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The remaining individuals landed in Sydney soon after.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement conducted searches on both groups and examined their electronic devices.

“The cohort was subject to a range of operational responses, including the searching of belongings and the downloading of their devices for investigative purposes,” NSW and Victoria police said in a statement.

“No-one arriving within this cohort has been charged, however, investigations into the activities of Australians who travelled to Syria — including those who have since returned — are ongoing.”

A sizeable media pack awaited the Melbourne group’s arrival, in a similar scene to that awaiting the previous cohort of women and children earlier in May. Three men dressed in black were gathered at the arrivals gate, fewer than the dozens who waited for the last group.

A second, larger group of four women and their children landed in Sydney about an hour later, where uniformed police were out in greater numbers. The group were taken out a back entrance, avoiding waiting media.

They will have access to medical, mental health and education services as well as supports related to their experiences at the refugee camp.

Long-standing plans to monitor the group

Last week the group travelled 750 km to Damascus, with the assistance of family and supporters after years in detention.

It followed the arrival of four women and nine children earlier this month, which resulted in immediate arrests and charges including crimes against humanity.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said the government “has not and will not” assist with the latest group’s return.

“These are people who have made the horrific choice to join a dangerous terrorist organisation and to place their children in an unspeakable situation,” Burke said in a statement.

“As we have said many times, any members of this cohort who have committed crimes can expect to face the full force of the law.”

Burke also said Australia’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies have been preparing for the cohort’s return since 2014, and have long-standing plans in place to monitor the cohort.

“The priority of the government, as always, is the safety of the Australian community,” he said.

During Question Time in parliament on Tuesday — just hours before the group were set to land on Australian soil — Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was asked by the Opposition if their return was “part of the Labor government’s plan”.

Albanese responded that he had “nothing but contempt for anyone who has sympathy for ISIS”.

He stressed that the federal government did not provide any assistance to the group, and “any breaches of the law will mean these people will face the full force of the law”.

Dr. Jamal Rifi, a key advocate for the return of the IS-linked families from Syria, said on the ABC’s 7:30 that he did not know the women that had arrived on Tuesday and did not know if they would be arrested.

“I believe they have touched down and official intelligence agencies, AFP (Australian Federal Police), made the decision that they won’t make any arrests”, Rifi told 7:30.

“That’s what I have read. But who knows what’s going to happen? Those women are not known to me.”

It’s understood the AFP has taken a different operational strategy for the women that returned on Tuesday compared to those that returned three weeks ago, and no arrests were made at either Melbourne or Sydney airports.

Who are the IS-linked women?

In February, 34 Australians who had been living in the al-Roj displacement camp in northern Syria for several years and preparing to return to Australia on Monday were instead brought back to the camp due to what local authorities said were “technical reasons”.

The women had travelled or were taken to Syria to become partners of IS group members and have been living in the displacement camp after the collapse of the IS group in 2019.

The women are often referred to as ‘ISIS brides’, given their perceived or real links to IS group fighters.

Al-Roj is a detention facility in northern Syria holding thousands of foreign women and children with alleged links to the IS group, where the cohort had been held since the group’s collapse.

Previously, the camps had been run by Kurdish forces, with support from the United States. But, as the US announced it would pull back support for the Kurds earlier this year, power is transitioning to Syrian government forces.

In September last year, two Australian women and four children with IS links returned to Australia after smuggling themselves from Syria to Lebanon.

The Australian government has repeatedly denied any involvement with the repatriation of the group.

In early May, 13 people from the cohort — four women and nine children — had booked flights to Melbourne and Sydney, and the group arrived on 7 and 8 May.

What happened when the first group of IS-linked women arrived this month?

In Melbourne, two women were immediately arrested by the Australian Federal Police, and they were charged with crimes against humanity, including slavery and slave trading.

A third woman was also charged with a terrorism-related crime after arrest upon arrival in Sydney with a child.

The three women remain in detention and are awaiting future court appearances.

The return of the IS-linked group has sparked a debate in Australian politics, with Opposition leader Angus Taylor proposing new laws to block their return.

The Albanese government has issued a temporary exclusion order for one woman that barred her from entering Australia for up to two years, citing advice from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation.

Mat Tinkler, chief executive of Save the Children, told the ABC on Tuesday that two-thirds of the returning group were children.

“As Australian citizens, it was always a matter of ‘when’ these women and children came home, not ‘if’,” he said.

“Australia must prioritise their safety, wellbeing and right to live in this country as Australian citizens.”

Police Report: Utah Father Accused of Kidnapping Infant Sons Possibly Headed to Mexico, Authorities Concerned

0

Authorities in Utah are on high alert as they search for two siblings who are believed to have been kidnapped by their father, who officials have described as being in a state of severe depression. The children are feared to have been taken to Mexico, placing them in immediate peril.

The Saratoga Springs Police Department is actively looking for 46-year-old Dane Stephen Richman and his two young sons, 1-year-old Will Richman and 10-month-old Wesley Richman.

Investigators have revealed that Richman recently resigned from his job amidst financial difficulties and is embroiled in a custody dispute with his wife. Police suspect that the abduction was premeditated, with planning possibly spanning several weeks, according to a report from the Deseret News.

In response to the urgent situation, an Amber Alert was issued over the weekend, highlighting the serious risk to the children and confirming that they were taken by their father.

“THERE IS CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY AND WELL BEING OF THE CHILDREN AS THE SUSPECT HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY DEPRESSED, SELLING POSSESSIONS, FACING FINANCIAL STRESS, AND ABANDONED HIS HOME,” the alert states.

Richman was charged Sunday with two counts of custodial interference, a third-degree felony. He picked the children up from their mother in Washington state on May 16 for his scheduled visitation time, the newspaper reported, noting that authorities initially said the abduction occurred in Saratoga Springs.

On Friday, the mother called the Saratoga Springs Police Department after Richman failed to appear at a scheduled deposition hearing.

Richman had apparently emailed his attorney that morning saying he no longer needed her services and wouldn’t be attending the scheduled hearing, according to charging documents cited by the newspaper.

Richman’s home appeared to be vacant when police visited, authorities said.

“Given Dane’s financial situation as well as the fact that he appears to have abandoned his house to foreclosure, it seems that Dane has possibly been planning this attempt to kidnap the children several days if not multiple weeks in advance,” investigators wrote in the court documents.

On May 18, Richman’s 2025 Toyota Camry had some service done in Carlsbad, California, about 50 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.

Images taken from surveillance cameras identified Richman in Southern California, the report states.

On Sunday, a warrant was issued for Richman’s arrest.

Police said they are in the process of having the Amber Alert shared throughout Mexico.

Anyone with information on Richman’s whereabouts is urged to call the Utah County Sheriff’s Office at 801-798-5600, or dial 911.

Port Wentworth Community Pushes for Temporary Halt on Data Center Developments

PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. () – Community members are urging city officials in Port Wentworth to impose a six-month suspension on all data center developments.

The Port Wentworth City Council had previously established an ordinance that provides a framework and regulations for data centers.

During a meeting on May 21, locals once again voiced their apprehensions regarding the introduction of a data center.

Patrick Donovan, a member of the Port Wentworth Planning and Zoning board and a real estate professional, initiated a petition requesting city council members to pause data center initiatives.

“I’m not against advancement,” Donovan stated. “I simply want to ensure that we implement safeguards to protect the residents here, so if data centers do come, the community is shielded.”

Data centers are large warehouses filled with computers that store, process and distribute data for websites, apps and cloud services. Residents in Port Wentworth said they are afraid that one could be coming to their neighborhood in the future without many restrictions.

“Data center language was introduced into a city council meeting, kind of out of the blue,” Donovan said. “No one kind of knew it was coming. The first reading was at a city council meeting and planning and zoning hadn’t seen it yet. Then they sent us the data center proposed language that was supposed to go into the zoning ordinance and there were zero restrictions.”

Donovan said his main concern is that there aren’t enough guardrails surrounding the development and operations of a data center. He said there needs to be rules about where the center would draw their power and water from.

“I worry that if you put a data center right here in the middle of two neighborhoods, Rice Creek, Rice Hope, it’s going to hurt property values,” Donovan said.

Donovan said he wants city officials to be aware of the public’s opinions. Therefore, he created a petition asking city council to enact a temporary moratorium.

The petition also asks for the establishment of a temporary review committee, evaluation of the impacts of data centers within Port Wentworth and to ensure the findings from the committee are used to make a responsible and transparent decision.

“We don’t know the long-term downside of data centers and to put them right next to communities, it doesn’t make sense,” Donovan said.

Donovan said he hopes the petition will reach 5,000 signatures before the next city council meeting on June 18.

Marlon Wayans Stands by Dave Chappelle Amidst Controversy Over Transgender Issues

0

Comedian Marlon Wayans has come to the defense of his friend and fellow comedian Dave Chappelle, who has faced criticism for his jokes about the transgender community.

In an interview with Variety on Monday, Wayans emphasized his belief in Chappelle’s character, stating, “I wouldn’t associate with Dave if he were full of hate. I don’t keep company with people like that. I know Dave’s heart, and his goal is not to demean anyone.”

Wayans explained that Chappelle is committed to maintaining the essence of comedy. “Dave wants the freedom to tell his jokes. If you’re opposed to comedy itself, he’ll continue to challenge you until you learn to appreciate humor. He’s simply defending his stance as a comedian,” Wayans remarked.

When questioned about his friendship with Chappelle in light of having a transgender child, Wayans expressed that he has no intention of censoring Chappelle’s material. He sees Chappelle’s situation as a battle with those who oppose his comedic approach.

“As a comedian, I respect his journey. As a friend, I respect his journey. And for my child, I respect their journey,” Wayans concluded, highlighting his support for both his friend and his family.

“And as the father of my child, I can appropriate my feelings toward my friend and my feelings toward my child, and how we can put those two things together, and I can explain both sides. I’m between them, so I can explain both sides to each other.”

Wayans revealed that he even attempted to include a cameo for Chappelle in the upcoming “Scary Movie 6.”

“I wrote two really funny scenes for Chappelle and pitched them both. And he was like, ‘Ahhhh,’” Wayans said. “I love Dave, and he’s like a brother, and I hope one day I’ll get that cameo.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Chappelle’s publicist for comment.

In 2021, Chappelle faced backlash from the left for transgender jokes in his Netflix special, “The Closer.” Trans activists urged Netflix to drop the program and a small group of Netflix employees also staged a walkout in protest.

In 2023, he continued to make jokes about transgender people in his special “The Dreamer,” when he recounted visiting Jim Carrey on the set of his 1999 movie, “The Man on the Moon.”

Carrey employed a “method” approach to portraying real-life comedian Andy Kaufman by remaining in character at all times, and Chappelle was told by the crew to address Carrey as “Andy” when he met him.

“I wanted to meet Jim Carrey and I had to pretend this n—a was Andy Kaufman all afternoon. And he was clearly Jim Carrey. I could look at him and I could see he was Jim Carrey,” he remarked.

“Anyway, I say all that to say that’s how trans people make me feel.”

Wayans has also frequently spoken out against cancel culture and encouraged comedians to use off-color jokes despite the threat of backlash.
