On Tuesday, Joe Biden initiated legal action against the Justice Department to prevent the release of audio recordings and transcripts from an interview he conducted with a ghostwriter. These materials were collected by the special counsel investigating his approach to handling classified documents.
In a lawsuit presented to Washington’s federal court, Biden’s legal team contended that the Justice Department intends to share these files with Congress and the Heritage Foundation, a conservative organization. This move comes despite the department’s previous stance that these documents were not subject to public disclosure laws.
Biden’s attorneys emphasized that releasing the materials would represent an “unwarranted invasion of President Biden’s privacy.”
“All citizens, whether a current or former Vice President, have a right to privacy concerning personal conversations held in their own homes,” Biden’s lawyers argued. “When the Department of Justice acquires such private information during a criminal investigation, it has a heightened duty to safeguard it from being disclosed.”
The controversy centers around audio and transcript records of discussions that took place in Biden’s home during 2016 and 2017 with Mark Zwonitzer, who partnered with Biden on his memoir projects.
The files were scrutinized by special counsel Robert Hur as part of his investigation into the president’s improper retention of classified documents, from his time as a senator and as vice president.
Hur’s yearlong investigation led to a 345-page report that questioned Biden’s age and mental competence but recommended no criminal charges against the then-81-year-old. Hur said he found insufficient evidence to successfully prosecute a case in court.
Biden has separately fought the release of the audio of his interview with Hur.
The House in 2024 voted to hold Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over that audio after the White House exerted executive privilege, shielding it from Congress.
The transcripts of five hours of Biden interviews with federal prosecutors was released that same year.
While Biden was adamant that he treated classified information seriously, the transcript shows that he was at times fuzzy about dates and details and he said he was unfamiliar with the paper trail for some of the sensitive documents he handled.
Republicans have argued Biden was being given a pass by his own Justice Department and that Trump had been unfairly victimized by prosecutors.
Democrats, for their part, stressed Biden’s cooperation in the investigation and strongly contrasted that with the separate criminal case against Trump, who was accused of refusing to return classified documents requested by the National Archives that he had at his Florida estate.
On Tuesday, John McClain, one of the co-executors overseeing Michael Jackson’s $2.5 billion estate, passed away at 71 in Malibu, California.
Sources shared with TMZ that McClain had struggled with health issues over the past few years, but the exact cause of his death remains undisclosed.
McClain held various influential roles throughout his career in the music industry, including stints as a producer and A&R executive.
His career included collaborations with notable artists such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre.
During his tenure at A&M Records, McClain played a pivotal role in the success of Janet Jackson’s breakthrough 1986 album, “Control.” He was also instrumental in bringing Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch to the label’s attention.

McClain and co-executor John Branca have made headlines as of late amid their court battles with the late King of Pop’s daughter Paris.
Attorneys for the estate executors told the Daily Mail in a statement earlier this month that they felt vindicated to an extent after the judge in the case praised their work over the past 17 years.
The judge said McClain and co-executor John Branca had ‘created real and substantial generational wealth for the estate’s beneficiaries.’
The executors’ legal team said that ‘the court has previously approved several other bonuses to outside counsel over the years for their extraordinary services, and this was the first time they were the subject of objections.’
Among the high-profile projects the executors oversaw, in turning the estate’s finances around, included a Cirque du Soleil show themed after the late vocalist; the 2009 concert film This Is It; and this year’s hit biopic Michael.
Michael Jackson died after suffering a cardiac arrest in the Los Angeles mansion he was living in at the time.
Authorities in February 2010 deemed his death as the result of acute propofol intoxication.

The Thriller artist had been administered the powerful drug by his personal doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, who told investigators that the singer called the substance (which he took via an IV drip) ‘milk’ and said he needed it to sleep.
Eventually, Murray’s care of Jackson fell under scrutiny after the singer’s death, amid questions about his judgment in giving Jackson the substance in certain doses, and not meeting safety precautions in administering the drug.
Jackson’s death was ultimately deemed a homicide by investigators and in November of 2011 – more than two years after his death – Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years in prison.
Jackson had an unprecedented career in music, as one of the best-selling artists of all-time, who won 13 Grammys over 38 nominations.

Meanwhile, Israel has escalated its military actions by conducting over 120 airstrikes on Lebanon, marking one of the most intense bombardments in recent weeks.
The Iranian foreign ministry has condemned the U.S. military operations in the southern Hormozgan province, where local reports noted explosions early Tuesday. Tehran views these actions as a blatant breach of the nearly seven-week-old ceasefire. Conversely, the U.S. has justified its strikes as defensive measures, aimed at missile sites and vessels allegedly laying mines.
Amidst these tensions, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that reaching a comprehensive agreement to halt the conflict might require several more days of negotiation. Both parties had earlier expressed optimism about finalizing a preliminary arrangement to cease hostilities and resume maritime activities through the Strait of Hormuz. This initial pact would provide a 60-day window to address more intricate issues, such as Iran’s contentious nuclear program.

Following the US strikes, Rubio told reporters on his plane in India that the Strait of Hormuz had to be open “one way or the other”.
The war, which began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February, has caused an unprecedented oil supply shock, pushing up the costs of fuel, fertiliser and food.
Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which normally carries about a fifth of global trade in oil and liquefied natural gas, has been a fraction of its usual level since the war began. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said 25 oil tankers and other vessels had passed through the strait with its permission over the past 24 hours.
The Brent benchmark oil price jumped up by more than 4 per cent after US Central Command announced the new wave of bombings, and China urged both sides to respect the truce and resolve their dispute peacefully.
Right to retaliate
The Revolutionary Guards said they reserved the right to retaliate to the strikes. They said air defence units had downed a US drone and fired at another drone and a fighter jet, which they said had entered Iranian airspace over the Gulf region.
In comments posted on his Telegram channel on the occasion of the annual hajj pilgrimage, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said: “From now on, the slogans ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’ will be the slogans of the Islamic nation and the oppressed people of the world.”
US President Donald Trump has previously cited the slogans while justifying military action against Iran.
Iranian and US officials have indicated that recent indirect talks made progress on a memorandum of understanding, or initial deal, that would lead to further negotiations over a final agreement.
Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, returned to Iran from Qatar after seeking the release of around $33 billion of frozen Iranian funds as part of the initial agreement, Iranian media reported. Iran’s Fars news agency cited a source saying the funds were the last sticking point in the deal.
Iran also wants a stop to the conflict in Lebanon, where a mid-April ceasefire has failed to halt fighting between Israel and Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.
Israel pounds Lebanon, expands ground operations
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday Israel would intensify its strikes against Hezbollah, while a US official said the Iran-backed group had ignored warnings to halt attacks that risked undermining negotiations to end the US-Israeli war on Iran.
In a statement on Tuesday, Netanyahu said that Israel was “deepening its operations in Lebanon” and operating with “large forces in the field”.
Israel pounded Lebanon with more than 120 air strikes on Tuesday, killing 31 people, the Lebanese health ministry said. The bombing raids further frayed a tenuous ceasefire announced on 16 April that was meant to halt fighting between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
Lebanese security sources told Reuters that Israeli strikes had hit across southern and eastern Lebanon on Tuesday.

Lebanon’s National News Agency said at least 10 people, including women and children, were killed in one strike on the town of Burj al-Shamali in southern Lebanon.
Two sources said on Tuesday that the Israeli military had expanded its ground operations in southern Lebanon past the security zone but gave no further details on the extent of the advance beyond the so-called Yellow Line.
Israel’s military had ordered residents not to return to dozens of villages in the zone, and its troops have been destroying homes in the area.
Hezbollah said on Tuesday it had targeted Israeli forces and tanks advancing toward the southern Lebanese town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya with explosive drones, rockets and artillery.
Lebanon’s health ministry says the cumulative toll from the Israeli offensive since 2 March, when Hezbollah fired projectiles into Israel in response to the start of the Iran war, had reached 3,213 dead and 9,737 wounded as of 26 May.
The Israeli military said that 10 of its soldiers had been killed since the 16 April ceasefire, six of them by Hezbollah’s explosive drones.
Initial 30-day framework
According to Iranian sources, an initial deal would end hostilities on all fronts, get traffic moving through the Strait of Hormuz over 30 days, and possibly provide some financial relief.
More difficult issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program, would be negotiated in a second phase.
Iran has been letting some ships through the strait, giving preference to vessels linked to countries with which it has close ties, Reuters has reported.
Trump has said his key aim in the war is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon with its highly enriched uranium. Tehran denies any such plans.
Trump has also used the crisis to call on more Arab and Muslim states including Saudi Arabia to sign up to the Abraham Accords, which aim to normalise ties with Israel.
Saudi Arabia has said it would not sign the accords without a roadmap to Palestinian statehood.
Thousands have been killed in the wider conflict, mostly in Lebanon and Iran.
Inside Iran, internet monitoring group Netblocks reported a partial restoration of connectivity after a nearly 90-day blackout.
The United States military executed a deadly operation on Tuesday, targeting a vessel suspected of drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific. This action resulted in the death of an individual identified as a narco-terrorist, as reported by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).
“On May 26, under the directive of SOUTHCOM commander General Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear launched a lethal strike on a vessel operated by organizations designated as terrorist groups,” announced SOUTHCOM in a statement posted on X.
The statement elaborated that intelligence had verified the vessel’s movement along established drug-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and confirmed its involvement in narco-trafficking activities.
According to military reports, the strike resulted in the death of one alleged narco-terrorist, while two other individuals survived the attack.

The U.S. military has carried out multiple strikes in recent months targeting suspected drug-smuggling vessels as part of a broader campaign aimed at dismantling cartel-linked trafficking operations.
Tuesday’s strike followed similar operations earlier this month.
SOUTHCOM said it targeted another vessel in the Eastern Pacific on May 8, killing two male narco-terrorists and leaving one survivor. Days earlier, the military conducted another strike in the Caribbean that killed two suspected traffickers.

The Eastern Pacific and Caribbean are major corridors for narcotics trafficking, with cartels often using small, fast-moving vessels to transport drugs toward the United States and Central America.
SOUTHCOM oversees military operations in Central and South America and the Caribbean, including counter-narcotics missions focused on disrupting drug trafficking networks tied to organized crime groups.
Garcelle Beauvais is candidly discussing the emotional transition into life as an empty nester.
During a recent session of the People Inc. Black Affinity Group’s Legacy Chat series, the actress and former star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills shared insights on her new chapter with her sons now grown up and out of the house.
“The atmosphere at home has definitely changed,” she revealed. “It’s like the energy has shifted.”
The actress confessed that there are instances when the reality of this new phase strikes her unexpectedly.
“Occasionally, I find myself tearing up because the daily routine of being a mom has changed,” she said. “No more thinking about dinner plans, attending games, or whipping up 25 cupcakes. All those everyday tasks are gone.”
Beauvais is mom to three sons: Oliver Saunders, whom she welcomed in 1991, and 18-year-old twins Jax Joseph Nilon and Jaid Thomas Nilon.
Now that the twins are older, she said watching them move through life on their own has been an adjustment.
“They’re both driving,” she said. “The other day they both drove and met me for dinner. Yeah, it’s different.”
She also revealed that her son Jaid is preparing for another major step.
“Jaid is moving to New York to start his modeling career,” Beauvais shared.
Although she is proud of her children, she feels the transition is “gonna be hard.”
Beauvais has often spoken publicly about motherhood over the years, including her experience becoming a mom to twins later in life. Back in 2007, she welcomed Jax and Jaid with her former husband, talent agent Michael “Mike” Nilon.
At the time, the actress described the boys as completely different from the very beginning.
“Jax came out screaming while Jaid came out looking both serious and curious about the world around him,” she previously shared in a blog post for PEOPLE.
She also reflected on the challenges she faced while trying to conceive.
“I learned the hard way that trying to have babies when you’re older is a whole different ball game,” Beauvais wrote at the time. “It took blood, sweat, lots of tears, and most importantly, fertility treatments. But I finally got pregnant. It was truly a miracle.”
Phuoc passed away on Saturday in Southern California after an unexpected collapse, according to his nephew, Van Nguyen.
In 1965, Phuoc was recruited by Horst Faas, the former head of photography at AP, to succeed a local hire who had tragically lost his life during an assignment. Phuoc quickly earned respect among fellow journalists and American and South Vietnamese forces for his remarkable knack for locating the heart of the conflict.
Born in 1935 in a village near Quang Ngai, south of Da Nang, Phuoc was the youngest among many siblings. At the age of around 10, his father was killed by local Viet Cong insurgents. Shortly afterwards, he lost his mother, leaving him without a home.
“He was truly an extraordinary man who overcame a difficult childhood,” remarked Nguyen.
As a young adult, Phuoc volunteered to assist with equipment at a Saigon film studio where Nguyen’s mother worked as a cook. It was in this environment that Phuoc first got hold of a camera and self-taught himself the art of photography, according to his nephew.
Phuoc, who was dubbed the AP’s “secret weapon” by his boss, was known for walking with the “point man” on combat patrols, putting him in position to get excellent photographs — but also exposing him to grave danger.
He was wounded at least five times during his 10 years with the AP in Vietnam, the first time just five months after he was hired. A grenade explosion left him with shrapnel in his chest and leg, but he was back on duty within a few months covering the drawn-out civil war between the Communist forces of North Vietnam and the U.S.-backed South Vietnamese military.
In 1968, he sustained a concussion when he was hit in the head by a rocket while covering street fighting in Saigon. That same year, Phuoc risked sniper fire to carry a wounded U.S. soldier to safety and received a commendation from the Ninth U.S. Army Infantry Division for saving the man’s life.
Phuoc lost his right eye in a grenade explosion in 1969 while on patrol with a Ranger battalion south of Da Nang, along Vietnam’s central coast. He learned to shoot with one eye and returned to work.
In a 2011 interview for AP’s archives, Phuoc described the difficulty of working with one eye when he had to look through the camera while also watching for silent hand gestures from the soldiers with whom he was patrolling.
His colleague in AP’s Saigon bureau, Huỳnh Công “Nick” Út, described Phuoc as fearless and resourceful in the field. Behind the scenes, he was a giving man and loyal friend who treated Út like a brother.
“Everyone loved him so much,” Út said. “When I heard, I cried, ‘My brother, he’s gone.’”
Despite his reputation for shooting action, the photos that touched Phuoc were those that evoked the plight of civilians caught in the crossfire. In the 2011 interview, he compared himself to a “small grain of sand” who used his pictures to bring their stories to the world.
When Saigon fell in 1975, Phuoc fled with his family with little more than the clothes on their back and a bottle of milk. His family was rescued from a refugee camp in Guam with the help of AP reporter Linda Deutsch, who was covering the tent city, and flown to Camp Pendleton.
Phuoc then returned to Asia and worked briefly for the AP in Hong Kong before leaving the company and settling permanently in Southern California with his family.
He went on to become a professional portrait photographer in Orange County, which is home to Little Saigon, the largest single community of South Vietnamese refugees in the world.
His great-nephew, Kim Nguyen, looked back Tuesday at the portraits Phuoc shot of him as a baby and reminisced about bringing his own son to see Phuoc’s work on display at a museum in Vietnam.
In California, Phuoc was a founding member of The Artistic Photography Association and trained young photographers. He also was a civilian volunteer for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and in 1994 was named the county’s volunteer of the year.
After days of displacement due to a hazardous materials scare, numerous Southern California residents finally received the green light to return home on Tuesday night. Authorities confirmed that the danger linked to a chemical storage tank at an aerospace site had been completely neutralized.
The crisis revolved around a 7,000-gallon tank containing methyl methacrylate, a dangerous and highly flammable chemical, located at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove.
Initially detected on Thursday, the situation quickly escalated into a significant public safety concern, prompting widespread evacuations throughout the area.
At the height of the emergency, around 60,000 individuals from Garden Grove and its surrounding areas were evacuated as officials cautioned about the potential for explosions, fires, and chemical exposure.
By Tuesday evening, authorities assured residents that all threats had been mitigated. The Orange County Fire Authority confirmed there was no longer any risk of explosions, leaks, fires, or public harm.
“All evacuation orders related to the Garden Grove hazardous materials incident have been lifted,” the agency said.
For the time being, Western remains closed between Garden Grove Blvd. and Chapman.
While most evacuation orders were lifted Monday, about 16,000 residents had remained out of their homes due to lingering concerns about a possible fire or explosion risk, concerns that were ultimately ruled out.
The scare has raised broader questions in the community about why hazardous chemicals were stored at the Garden Grove facility, located in a city of about 171,000 people roughly 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
At a community meeting Tuesday, frustrated residents pressed city officials for answers as they acknowledged the need for a deeper review.
Mayor Stephanie Klopfenstein said investigations will be launched at the city, state, and federal levels.
Legal action has commenced against GKN Aerospace, with eight lawsuits filed on behalf of 70 individuals.
The company faces allegations of negligence in connection with the emergency that necessitated the evacuation of tens of thousands of people.

Recent reports reveal that Conner, who tied the knot with the Teen Mom personality less than a year ago, faced several charges, including child endangerment and driving under the influence. In the early hours of May 24, Edwards dialed 911 when Conner drove away with their young child, expressing concerns about her potential drug use. Authorities apprehended her shortly afterward, leading fans to speculate about the possible dissolution of their marriage. However, contrary to expectations, the couple was seen together soon after Conner’s release.

Once again, Amanda Conner and Ryan Edwards have been seen in each other’s company. A local resident captured the duo at a gas station and posted the sighting on TikTok. As reported by Elle Bee, the couple was observed leaving the location around 10 p.m. on May 24, mere hours post-Conner’s release from custody.
In the photo, Conner is seen carrying a large soda and some snacks while wearing the same shirt she was sporting in her booking photo. She did manage to smooth out her hair and accessorized with a court-ordered ankle bracelet. Edwards reportedly walked out of the gas station moments before Conner. He was recorded blowing his nose onto the ground and hopping into a lifted truck. Conner joined him moments later. While it’s unclear where the duo were headed, it was not home to their baby, considering the stipulations of Conner’s $16,000 bond.

The boy had been living with other relatives during her rehab stint. In the weeks leading up to Conner’s arrest, followers grew concerned when her eldest child stopped appearing in photos and TikTok videos. Presley appeared less frequently as well.
Now, we know that neither child is in the couple’s care. According to the stipulations of Conner’s bond, she is not allowed to have contact with Presley. The 1-year-old was in the vehicle at the time of her arrest. Given that Conner has since been spotted out with Edwards, it is safe to assume Presley is no longer in their shared home. At the very least, she is not right now.
According to several Reddit users, a family member revealed that Conner’s son has been living with a paternal relative. According to the insider, he has been there for some time. It is unclear when Conner is due back in court.
Edwards has three additional children who live primarily with their mothers. Bentley Edwards is 17. Edwards shares the teen with Maci Bookout. His children, Stella Edwards and Jagger Edwards, reside primarily with their mother, Mackenzie Standifer. It is unclear if the current legal drama will impact Edwards’ current custody schedules.
In a candid revelation, former Essendon coach Brad Scott shared how he was caught off guard by his recent dismissal, speaking out for the first time on Tuesday about the unexpected end to his tenure.
Throughout his two and a half years at the helm, Scott amassed a record of 29 wins, 46 losses, and one draw.
Currently, the Bombers are struggling, having secured just one victory in their last 24 games, and find themselves anchored at the bottom of the league standings with only four points.
Reflecting on his departure, Scott told Channel Seven on Tuesday night, “I guess I was blindsided. We’re obviously navigating through a challenging phase, but up until now, it hasn’t felt much different from other weeks.”
He added, “Over an extensive period, I’ve received strong support for the plan we implemented.”

Scott told the Agenda Setters that he felt the whole staff had aligned on the strategy around the club and he was committed to seeing it through
‘All the key people were a part of that plan and building that plan so it felt business as usual to me.
‘We clearly articulated the risk going into this season and the difficulty we may face but we believe in the plan and I still believe in the plan.
‘I was committed to seeing it through, and committed to the playing group and all the players we re-contracted as part of that plan.
‘So yeah it was surprising, but in a way, I’ve been in this industry a long time and it wasn’t surprising because pressure does strange things.’
He also spoke about the decision to keep Zach Merrett, calling it a club decision and one he did not agree with.
‘That was a club decision, to retain Zach,’ he said.
When host Kane Cornes asked if he thought it was the right decision, Scott responded, ‘No.’
‘My view was that Zach had given incredible service to the Essendon football club, he had been through multiple strategies and multiple coaches,’ he elaborated.
‘My view is always you invest in the team and you put the team first and Zach found that really hard to do at the end of last year, and I felt for him and I felt for his family.
‘I didn’t think he was being selfish, I thought he had been promised things over and over again and he was at his wits’ end and he couldn’t invest in the team anymore.
Scott also revealed he felt the club should have traded Zach Merrett when he wanted to switch to Hawthorn in the offseason
‘We should have let him go but the club view is we should keep him and what the club’s view is, is my view and I fronted that.’
Scott also opened up on the strategic approach from within the club, saying he thought the supporters were going to hate him for it.
‘It’s attack the draft, forgo older, more experienced players to bring in draft picks and build the list organically from the bottom up,’ he explained.
‘This was another huge challenge of the job, in that it is very difficult to simultaneously articulate that we are rebuilding while trying to galvanise a group of senior players that we want to win every week.
‘To explain to your supporters that we want to win every week but it’s going to be hard.
‘When we embarked on that strategy, I thought “gee the supporters are going to hate me.” because it’s going to be hard and we are vulnerable.
‘But I wanted to embark on a strategy that Essendon hadn’t embarked on this century and I knew the odds of seeing it through are slim.
‘The supporters are going to hate this, and it’s going to be hard, why would you do this? And the answer was because it was the right thing to do and I still think it was the right thing to do.
‘In time when the supporters see these kids come together, the supporters might look back and think “maybe we don’t hate him as much now”.’
