South Carolina Senate Declines Trump’s Proposal to Redraw Congressional Map Ahead of Midterm Elections


In Columbia, South Carolina, President Donald Trump’s endeavor to influence congressional district boundaries ahead of the upcoming November elections hit a notable stumbling block on Tuesday. The state’s Senate rebuffed a proposal to alter the district maps, while a federal court impeded a Republican-endorsed redistricting plan in Alabama.

As South Carolinians began casting early in-person ballots for the state’s primaries, the Senate turned down a Republican initiative. The plan aimed to annul ongoing congressional votes, opting instead for a rescheduled primary under newly configured districts. This move was intended to give the GOP a strategic edge in unseating a veteran Democratic representative.

A number of senators voiced concerns about the timing, arguing that it was impractical to implement such changes so close to the election.

“The people of South Carolina are already heading to the polls today,” stated Republican state Senator Richard Cash. “My conscience and common sense prevent me from halting an election that has already commenced.”

This political maneuvering in South Carolina forms part of a broader Republican strategy, heavily influenced by Trump, to redraw district lines in favor of the GOP. The objective is to maintain their narrow majority in the House during the midterm elections. This effort follows a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that diluted minority protections previously upheld by the federal Voting Rights Act, providing Republicans with a potential opportunity to capitalize on the ruling.

In Alabama, a three-judge federal panel issued a preliminary injunction blocking the state from using a Republican-drawn congressional map that could help the GOP win an additional seat. The court said the plan “intentionally discriminated based on race” by including only one Black-majority district, and it ordered the continued use of a court-imposed map that includes two districts with a significant proportion of Black residents.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, a Republican, vowed a quick appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court and predicted an eventual victory.

Republicans remain ahead in a national mid-decade redistricting battle. But Democrats, who have suffered their own share of setbacks, praised the turn of events in Alabama.

The “fight for justice is far from over in states across the country where politicians are enacting gerrymanders on top of gerrymanders to erase equal representation for communities of color,” said Marina Jenkins, executive director of the National Redistricting Foundation, a nonprofit affiliate of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

A redistricting battle that has spanned 10 months

Voting districts typically are redrawn after a census at the start of a decade. But Trump has urged Republican-led states to redistrict ahead of the November elections to try to rebuff political headwinds, which typically result in lost congressional seats for the president’s party in midterms.

Since Trump first urged Texas to redraw its voting districts last summer, Republicans also have enacted new House districts in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Florida and Tennessee. Republicans think they could gain as many as 14 seats from those efforts, and perhaps 15 if they eventually win the ability to use a different map in Alabama.

Meanwhile, Democrats think they could win five additional seats from new voter-approved districts in California, plus one more from a new court-imposed map in Utah. Democrats suffered a setback earlier this month in Virginia, where the state Supreme Court invalidated a voter-approved redistricting plan that could have helped Democrats win additional seats.

Redistricting discussions are ongoing in Louisiana following an April high court ruling that struck down a majority-Black congressional district as an illegal partisan gerrymander. The Louisiana House could vote later this week on a new map that could eliminate a seat held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields and improve Republicans’ chances of winning six out of the state’s seven seats.

The Congressional Black Caucus on Tuesday called on major corporations across the U.S., including those that previously expressed support for voting rights and racial justice, to oppose redistricting efforts by Republican-led states that seek to eliminate majority-Black U.S. House districts. That comes after the caucus last week called for Black athletes to boycott public universities in states that are gerrymandering congressional maps to eliminate districts held by Black lawmakers.

Clyburn decries White House role in redistricting

More than 32,000 votes had been cast in South Carolina by 1 p.m. Tuesday on the first day of early voting for the June 9 primary after Democrats called for people against a proposed new map to turn out in force. In 2022, about 125,000 early votes were cast in the entire two weeks.

Among the first to cast an early ballot in the small city of Orangeburg was U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, the Democrat whose district Republicans were trying to reshape in their quest for a clean sweep of South Carolina’s seven congressional seats. A defiant Clyburn insisted he would run for reelection, regardless of what the district looks like.

“I’m OK if it’s Trump plus 20,” Clyburn said while describing the potential Republican advantage in a reshaped district. “I would be running where I live.”

The Republican-led House already had passed a plan that would reconfigure Clyburn’s district, void the results of current congressional primaries and instead hold new U.S. House primaries in August.

Trump had lobbied for the plan, making at least two phone calls to Republican state Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey and also phoning in to a private meeting of Republican senators earlier this month. He also had maintained the pressure on social media.

But debate stalled in the Senate, where Democrats were staunchly opposed and some GOP lawmakers had concerns that an aggressive redistricting could backfire by making some Republican-held seats susceptible to losses because of the addition of Democratic voters.

Clyburn noted that when state lawmakers last redrew congressional districts, after the 2020 census, they spent months holding meetings across the state to gather public suggestions. Although that map resulted in a 6-1 seat advantage for Republicans over Democrats, the process was orderly and fair, he said.

“When the map was challenged, the U.S. Supreme Court said, yes, this is constitutional,” Clyburn said. But now, “this White House says, to hell with the process, to hell with the Constitution, just do what we want done.”

After wrapping up a long and exhausting workday, German Corona, 46, faced a harrowing ordeal that has left him with physical and emotional scars. As he made his way home on a familiar route one Friday night, a routine he had followed for nearly a decade, an unsettling presence trailed him. A group of youths, later described as “juvenile males” by authorities, closed in on Corona before launching a brutal attack and robbing him, as captured on video surveillance.

The incident unfolded around 10:40 p.m. as Corona departed from his workplace on Oregon Avenue in Philadelphia, a location where he juggled two jobs and often clocked 13-hour shifts. As he crossed Shunk Street, an area in the city’s southern region, the assailants converged from various directions. Footage later revealed one of the individuals pointing, seemingly signaling the others to begin their assault.

The vicious attack left Corona with significant injuries, including a broken nose and three staples in his head. Sharing his ordeal with Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate WPVI, he recounted the terrifying moments and the aftermath that has upended his sense of security.

Despite the clear evidence captured on video, the Philadelphia Police Department has yet to make any arrests related to this disturbing case. The community remains on edge as law enforcement continues to investigate, urging anyone with information to come forward. This incident highlights the growing concern for safety in neighborhoods and the urgent need for measures to protect residents as they go about their daily lives.

As Corona crossed Shunk Street in the southern part of the city, four “juvenile males” followed him, police said. Video obtained by the local outlet shows the minors converging on the man from different directions, with one of them pointing before they attack.

“They don”t say anything,” Corona noted, adding that he believed he was hit with an object on the back of his head. “They knocked me out for like one minute. When I woke up, I saw a lot of blood on the floor.”

He came to and realized they were still hitting him and demanding money. According to Corona, he gave them his wallet with hundreds of dollars in it. Nearby residents apparently started to make noise, and the minors ran away.

“The suspects followed the victim and brutally attacked him … beating him until he lost consciousness,” police added. “The suspects demanded money, fleeing the scene with the victim’s wallet and approximately $200 in cash.”

Two of them ran north and a third ran south, officers added. Corona was brought to an area hospital, where he was treated.

The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone with information about the attack to contact its South Detective Division at (215) 686-3013 or [email protected].

Corona said the attack has left him scared.

“I walk on the street for like 10 years every night. Every night. Sometimes I come out from work at like 12 o’clock. Never worried, nothing. It’s always nice and quiet,” he told WPVI. “I don’t want it to happen again to anybody else.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — On Tuesday, the Congressional Black Caucus urged major U.S. corporations, especially those vocal about supporting voting rights and racial justice, to stand against redistricting efforts by Republican-led states aimed at dismantling majority-Black U.S. House districts.

The Black Caucus addressed a letter to over 250 companies, calling on them to denounce these redistricting initiatives, which the lawmakers see as “coordinated efforts to silence Black voices at the ballot box.” Notably, some of these companies had previously joined a campaign urging Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, a Democratic initiative to reinstate and modernize the Voting Rights Act.

This 2021 coalition, known as Business for Voting Rights, included some of the nation’s most influential corporations, such as Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Tesla, Salesforce, Target, PayPal, Intel, and Starbucks.

The letter marks the latest endeavor by the Congressional Black Caucus and its supporters to rally against Republican-led states redrawing legislative maps in ways that undermine Black political representation. This follows a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that significantly weakened a crucial part of the Voting Rights Act, prompting several states to target congressional districts held by Black Democratic representatives.

“Corporations benefiting from Black consumers, relying on Black employees, and gaining wealth partly from Black communities cannot ignore the dismantling of Black political power happening before our eyes,” stated Rep. Yvette Clarke, chair of the Black Caucus, during an interview.

Clarke described the letter as “putting corporate America on notice,” but she said the caucus was not seeking an adversarial relationship with corporations. Among those receiving Tuesday’s letter were companies based overseas that have a significant presence in the U.S.

The caucus last week called for Black athletes to boycott public universities in states that are gerrymandering their congressional maps to eliminate districts held by Black lawmakers. The 59-member Congressional Black Caucus consists entirely of Democrats, including more than a third from Southern states.

Some lawmakers have said mass protests and federal legislation might be necessary to undo the efforts underway in Republican-led states. Any new federal voting rights law would almost certainly require Democrats to secure majorities in both chambers of Congress and win the presidency.

“Many companies that previously issued statements after the murder of George Floyd, pledged billions toward racial equity initiatives, and spoke forcefully in defense of democracy following January 6 now face a defining test of whether those commitments were rooted in principle or convenience,” the caucus’ letter states.

It also represents the latest instance of the caucus expressing frustrations with corporate America. A 2024 Black Caucus report noted that lawmakers were “troubled that some corporations that made pledges in 2020 have taken several steps in the opposite direction,” such as rolling back or failing to follow through on pledges to diversify their workforces.

“We understand who the occupant in the White House is and the reality of Republicans being in charge,” Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford of Nevada said of the caucus’ message. “But what corporate America also understands is that there will be a shift at some point.”

The letter calls on companies to publicly condemn the redistricting plans, meet with Black Caucus members to discuss corporate America’s role in protecting voting rights and disclose their political donations to Republican politicians in states that are redistricting their congressional maps.

President Donald Trump last year kicked off the unusual mid-decade round of congressional redistricting when he pushed Texas lawmakers to redraw their maps in a way that would add Republican seats. Democratic-led California responded, but it has been mostly Republican states redrawing their lines since as the party tries to maintain its majority in the U.S. House during this year’s midterm elections.

The effort was supercharged by the Supreme Court decision, which allowed even more Republican states to redraw congressional maps that previously had protected minority communities.

Horsford, who chaired the Black Caucus during President Joe Biden’s Democratic administration, said the caucus is demanding that companies “stand on the side of democracy, fairness and equal representation.”

“This is about power, who holds it and what it’s used for,” he said. “And when you’re diluting Black economic and political power, we need to know where these companies stand in this moment, and what side of history they’re on.”

For a long time, developers touted it as the project that would usher Central Queens into the era of skyscrapers. However, the reality now is a structure that hardly surpasses the neighboring rooftops.

A once-controversial plan for two towering residential buildings in Kew Gardens Hills has been significantly scaled down. The change comes after years of community resistance, escalating construction expenses, and increasing scrutiny over the project’s financial setup.

Initially, Marx Development Center’s proposal for 71-12 Park Ave., dubbed Utopia Living, aimed to create two towers standing at 50 and 42 stories. The ambitious original plans included approximately 1.28 million square feet, with around 850 apartments, high-end amenities, landscaped plazas, executive office facilities, and a private shuttle service connecting to nearby subway stations.

This month, a new design was revealed, drastically different from the initial vision.

Gone are the towering skyscrapers; the project has been reduced to a single 13-story residential building. The revised plan covers about 784,000 square feet and includes approximately 800 rental units.

The apartment count barely changed, but the ambition did.

The downsizing underscores the brutal financial reality now reshaping major development projects across New York City, where developers are increasingly abandoning glass supertowers in favor of cheaper, lower-rise construction that is faster and less risky to build.

Construction costs in New York remain among the highest anywhere in the world. Industry estimates now place many high-rise residential projects well above $500 per square foot before financing costs are even fully factored in. Steel prices have surged since the pandemic, labor expenses continue climbing across unionized trades and insurance premiums have become one of the most painful pressure points for developers. 

New York’s controversial Scaffold Law, which places broad liability on contractors and property owners for gravity-related construction injuries, has also driven insurance costs sharply higher over the last decade.

At the same time, high interest rates have made large-scale borrowing dramatically more expensive, especially for projects requiring years of construction before apartments can begin generating revenue.

And skyscrapers are uniquely expensive to build.

High-rise towers require deeper foundations, more complex structural systems, larger elevator cores, sophisticated fire suppression systems and significantly more steel and concrete than mid-rise buildings. Research from the Brookings Institution has found that high-rise concrete construction can cost substantially more per square foot than mid-rise structures. 

That math increasingly matters in Queens.

When renderings of the original towers surfaced last fall, local opposition erupted almost immediately in Kew Gardens Hills, a largely low-rise residential neighborhood dominated by modest apartment buildings and suburban-style side streets.

Residents argued the towers would overwhelm local infrastructure, worsen congestion and fundamentally alter the character of the area.

“It will be a disaster,” local Jewish leader and community board member Sorolle Idels told the Queens Eagle in 2024. “It’s a congested area, making it unbelievably more congested…This is a big fat mess.”

The anger intensified because the project qualified as an as-of-right development under existing zoning rules, allowing the developer to avoid the lengthy rezoning and public review process that normally accompanies projects of that scale.

To many locals, the towers appeared to materialize without meaningful input.

“This absolutely went under the radar with no input from the community board or the community,” Idels said. “No one discussed it with anybody, and that’s not right. How do you build a skyscraper and not get the community input?”

The proposed towers would have risen roughly 572 feet between Parsons Boulevard and Park Avenue, towering above nearby two- and three-story buildings and directly adjacent to an assisted living facility, office buildings and the NYPD’s 107th Precinct.

As preliminary site work moved forward, tensions escalated further.

Department of Buildings records show multiple complaints from neighbors who alleged nearby homes shook during excavation work.

“Excavation is causing the entire building to shake like an earthquake,” one complaint filed with the city stated. “In our apartment we feel shaking, pictures are falling off the wall and cracks are appearing around the windows, air conditioning and walls.”

Political pressure soon followed.

City Councilmember Jim Gennaro publicly signaled he intended to push the developer to address neighborhood concerns before the project advanced further.

“My job is to bring the community and the developer together to work out common sense accommodations, common sense mitigations, work on people’s concerns and expect some consideration and some acquiescence to the community’s concern,” Gennaro told the Eagle.

“I think it’s in the developer’s best interest to be neighborly and be attentive to community concerns,” he added. “Nothing has been approved by the DOB as of this date, but we’re not going to wait. We’re going to get out there and we’re going to mix it up.”

The project also faced criticism because it relied on the EB-5 immigrant investor program, a federal visa initiative that grants permanent residency to foreign nationals who invest in American development projects.

For decades, EB-5 financing has served as a major funding source for large New York real estate projects, particularly luxury developments that struggled to secure traditional financing. But the program has also generated backlash from critics who argue it primarily benefits wealthy developers while offering little direct value to surrounding communities.

In Kew Gardens Hills, some residents viewed the use of EB-5 financing as symbolic of a project driven more by outside capital than neighborhood demand.

The towers were being developed through Manhattan Regional Center, an EB-5 entity tied to Marx Development Group itself.

Now the project’s revised design reflects a far more cautious approach.

New renderings show a bulky mid-rise complex wrapped around a central courtyard with rooftop terraces and green space instead of two reflective skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The redesigned development will still include amenities such as a fitness center, a swimming pool, an underground parking garage, bike storage and outdoor lounge areas, but the scale has been dramatically reduced.

Plans call for 61 studios, 378 one-bedroom apartments and 361 two-bedroom units.

This remarkable change can largely be attributed to Roberto De Zerbi, who stepped into the managerial role in March. A mere 54 days later, his leadership culminated in a decisive 1-0 victory over Everton, ensuring Spurs’ place in the Premier League for another season. Throughout this period, De Zerbi’s players have praised his infectious positivity and passionate fighting spirit, qualities that injected much-needed energy into their survival campaign.

The Italian manager’s refreshing and spirited approach to training starkly contrasted with the previous regime under Igor Tudor. Tudor’s tenure had cast a shadow over the club with its strict and abrasive atmosphere, leaving many first-team players feeling demoralized. His harsh demeanor and questionable tactical choices only served to erode player confidence.

Conor Gallagher, a January acquisition, openly acknowledged the impact of the managerial shift. “I was low on confidence,” Gallagher confessed. “The last manager wasn’t keen on me, and the fans doubted my abilities.”

De Zerbi, however, recognized Gallagher’s potential, having seen his impactful performances for Chelsea and under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid. After a few high-energy training sessions, De Zerbi identified Gallagher’s dynamic playing style as perfect for an advanced role, pivotal for the high-press strategy he envisioned. This adjustment not only revived Gallagher’s form but also set the stage for Spurs’ resurgence on the field.

After the tepid surrenders under Tudor and Thomas Frank, De Zerbi turned defence into attack by putting Spurs’ opponents on the back foot, switching the pressure. His reward came with their pivotal 2-1 win over Aston Villa, the team Gallagher had turned down to join Spurs for £35million from Atletico in January.

‘I’ve not really been able to speak to anyone in the last few months,’ said Gallagher, who opened the scoring from distance at Villa Park. 

‘It’s obviously been really tough times for me and the team and I’ve just been so focused on trying to improve to help the team as much as I can. Roberto completely turned around my Spurs career. He came in, showed belief and gave me my confidence back, and I was able to show what I can do.’

De Zerbi had shown him a video on YouTube to boost him. It was titled ‘Bossing the midfield, Conor Gallagher’. The coach did the same with other players to build them back up. Gallagher admitted that, up until Sunday, the threat of relegation had been hard to escape.

‘You always have those thoughts about what could happen,’ he said. ‘I haven’t been able to relax for the last three or four months to be honest. There’s definitely a sense of relief. We worked so hard since the new gaffer came in, I think it’s something we deserved.’

From the outset, De Zerbi brought energy to training. One-touch and two-touch drills, encouraging the players to enjoy possession of the ball again. He put an arm around those who needed it, encouraging the young players and rebuilding the mindset of the older ones bruised by Tudor’s tenure.

Fabian Otte and Dean Brill, the goalkeeping coaches, also put in extra work with Antonin Kinsky to ensure the foundations of the team were not damaged by the humiliating chapter he suffered under Tudor at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, subbed off inside 20 minutes while 3-0 down after a pair of errors.

‘They treated me the same after the Atletico game,’ said Kinsky. ‘Same opinion of me, treated me normally and still kept pushing to prepare me.’

De Zerbi, who has lived with his six backroom staff at the hotel at Spurs’s training ground, made effective tactical tweaks to enhance performances. Players who stayed over before home games for extra rest said it wasn’t unusual, after four or five tactical meetings already, for De Zerbi to produce the tactical board again at 9pm to go over changes and ideas; obsessed with his plan to keep his side in the Premier League. Under him, the team pressed more effectively and forced more turnovers in the final third.

‘Without him coming in, there is a serious possibility we would have gone down,’ said James Maddison. ‘He switched the mindset, he switched the passion. The passion he shows every single day rubbed off on the players and I think you could see that in the last few performances.

‘Yes, maybe we could still be better in terms of quality in some moments. But the passion and the intensity just switched. I never questioned the group’s mentality. I didn’t see a group who weren’t willing to try, it just needed Roberto to come in and fine-tune it and get it out of some of the players. And he managed to do that, so big credit to him.’

Now De Zerbi is working to transform Spurs into the team fans expect and demand. Talks are underway for Manchester City’s Savinho while they hope to see off a challenge from Juventus for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and remain in pole position for Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi. Resilience, character and winning mentality will play a greater part in their recruitment profiling.

‘We need to be responsible for holding ourselves to higher standards and demanding more from each other individually,’ Maddison said.

De Zerbi again insisted he would ‘100 per cent’ want to keep Sunday’s goal hero Joao Palhinha at the club too and Tottenham’s option to buy the 30-year-old is £25.8m. ‘I think the next season will be really different and I truly believe it will,’ Palhinha insisted.

When speaking to Us after the arrest, Eric admitted he and his wife got into a fight on July 4 and that he slapped her during their altercation. He said his wife was holding their daughter at the time, but was adamant he didn’t make contact or hurt his daughter.

Eric was later represented by a public defender during a July 7, 2025, court hearing, during which he pleaded not guilty to domestic battery and domestic disorderly conduct charges.

Eric, who is a former U.S. Marine, met his Indonesian wife on an international dating site and they have a 10-year age gap. Together, the Wisconsin-based couple appeared on season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé.

Cameras rolled as the couple documented the highs and lows of their relationship, including Leida’s controversial clashes with Eric’s teenage daughter, Tasha. Leida was also unhappy with Eric spending more time and money on his three children from a previous relationship.

In recent weeks, the bodies of multiple women have been found in different locations across the city, a popular destination for American visitors, according to local sources. These incidents have prompted an urgent inquiry from local law enforcement officials.

While the identities of the victims remain unknown, police have disclosed that the women were aged between 30 and 35. They also shared common characteristics, such as having tattoos and being found partially unclothed.

Given these similarities, investigators are exploring the possibility of a connection between the cases, hoping to uncover whether these tragic events are linked.

Mexico News Daily reported that since no friends or relatives of the women have come forward to claim any of the bodies, authorities are also exploring the possibility that they were killed elsewhere and dumped in Puerto Vallarta.

The first body was found on May 10, and only days later, a second body was found. The third body was found last Thursday, sparking fears of a repeat offender.

The women’s bodies were recovered in three separate places on the outskirts of the city, away from crowded areas where most residents live and where most tourists enjoy vacations.

The heir to a prominent fast fashion empire, Jonathan Andic, has announced his resignation from the family business amid allegations surrounding the death of his father, a billionaire fashion mogul. Jonathan, who was present at the time of the incident, has been officially identified by a Spanish court as a suspect in the 71-year-old’s demise.

Jonathan Andic, 45, was arrested in Barcelona last week, 17 months after his father, Mango founder Isak Andic, fell more than 100 metres to his death on a hike in mountains north of the Spanish city.

According to the judge’s recent declaration, evidence suggests that the patriarch’s passing might not have been accidental, implicating Jonathan in what is described as an “active and premeditated” involvement. Despite these allegations, Jonathan remains steadfast in asserting his innocence. On Tuesday, he expressed his determination to clear his name, describing the accusations as “the most serious, unjust, and unfounded,” adding to the burden of mourning his father’s loss.

Jonathan criticized the prevailing narrative as a skewed portrayal that distorts the truth, saying, “A public narrative has been constructed that is one-sided, taken out of context and distorted, and which has created a perception of guilt that bears no relation to reality.” As he steps away from his role in the company, Jonathan aims to focus on addressing these serious charges and proving his innocence.

But Jonathan on Tuesday insisted he was innocent, saying he now had to live with the “most serious, unjust and unfounded” allegation on top of the grief over his father’s death.

“A public narrative has been constructed that is one-sided, taken out of context and distorted, and which has created a perception of guilt that bears no relation to reality,” he said. 

“I know that dismantling it will require time, effort and intense dedication.”

Jonathan said that meant he would be temporarily stepping away from his role as executive vice president of Mango’s holding company, to which he was appointed in January 2025, about six weeks after Isak’s death.

Mango’s board of directors released a statement shortly after expressing their “full support for Jonathan” and their “full confidence that the legal proceedings will be resolved favourably and trust that this will happen as swiftly as possible”.

Chairman and chief executive Toni Ruiz conveyed his “utmost respect, understanding and support” to Jonathan and stressed the company was in the “strongest moment of its history”. 

In a writ issued on Thursday, Judge Raquel Nieto Galvan said there was “sufficient evidence to suggest that the death of (Isak Andic) may not have been accidental, and that (Jonathan Andic) played an active and premeditated role in his father’s death”.

Nieto Galvan said the heir to the Mango retail fortune held a financial grudge against his father and gave police and emergency services contradictory statements about the day he fell to his death as they hiked together.

The root of the bad relationship was the son’s “obsession with money to the extent that he asked his father (Isak Andic) for an inheritance while he was still alive”, she wrote.

In WhatsApp messages, Jonathan expressed “feelings of hatred, resentment and thoughts of death, and blaming his father for his situation”.

But Jonathan pushed back on that assessment on Tuesday, saying that he had loved his father “in a very special way”.

“We shared many happy, cherished and loving moments together,” he wrote. 

“As is the case in so many families, we have also faced difficult and challenging times, which we have overcome through great effort, generosity and support.”

Judges in Spain typically investigate cases to decide whether there are sufficient grounds to go to trial. The writ is part of Nieto Galvan’s pre-trial investigation and Jonathan Andic has not been charged.

Utah Mother Urgently Seeks Help as Ex-Husband Vanishes with Sons Amid Sudden Job Quit

A Utah mother is desperately seeking the safe return of her two young sons, who were reportedly taken by their father.

Lizzie Tomich took to social media with an emotional appeal for assistance in locating her sons, Will Richman, aged 1, and Wesley Richman, aged 10 months. This plea followed the failure of their father, Dane Richman, to appear for a scheduled custody exchange on May 23.

“I MISS MY BABIES!!! Please help me find them. They are MY WORLD!!!!” Tomich expressed in a heartfelt Facebook post on May 24. “I can’t even describe how awful this is. Please, please, please help me find them!!!!”

An Amber Alert has been issued in relation to the case, underscoring the concerns for the children’s safety. Authorities have revealed troubling details about Dane, noting that he was “seriously depressed” and had taken actions such as “selling possessions” and “abandoning his home” before vanishing with the children. He has been identified as a suspect in this child abduction case.

In a video shared online, Tomich recounted that she had dropped off her sons for their regular visit with their father on May 16. Her worries intensified after Dane failed to attend a scheduled deposition related to their ongoing custody battle on May 22.

“Minutes before the deposition was to start, we learned that Dane had fired his attorney and would not be attending the deposition,” she explained. “I immediately contacted him…via calling his phone and texting. He did not respond.” 

Concerned, Tomich and her attorney said they called police to conduct a welfare check at Dane’s Saratoga Springs home. 

“When police arrived, we learned that the house was vacant and there were things being moved out,” Tomich explained. “There was no car and Dane and the boys were not home. When we learned this, we knew something was wrong.” 

Eventually, Dane allegedly texted her back, writing that he and the boys were “all good” and were driving.

“We are camping,” he allegedly wrote in texts shared in the video. “We will see you tomorrow at noon.” 

But when the scheduled custody exchange arrived May 23, Dane never showed up. 

“As the time approached, I began calling and texting him asking for an ETA, he did not respond,” Tomich said before her voice broke. “At approximately 12:01 is when I began to panic and when we called police.”

Amber Alert Issued for Will Richman and Wesley Richman

Under the current custody orders in place, both parents would need permission from either the court or the other parent to leave the state with the children,Tomich’s attorney family lawyer Brittany Skinner explained in the video.

With the boys missing, authorities issued an Amber Alert. 

“After further investigation with police,” Skinner explained, “we’ve learned that Dane’s quit his job, he’s sold almost all of his possessions.”

According to court records obtained by KUTV, Dane allegedly told his employer he had to quit because he was “unable to continue working due to current ongoing legal battles” with Tomich and also mentioned his home going into foreclosure.

Authorities Suspect Dane Richman Could Be in Mexico

Cell phone records show that Dane’s phone last pinged May 19 in San Diego near the Mexico border and investigators believe he may have fled to the neighboring country, according to the court documents also obtained by Fox 13.

The 46-year-old was charged May 25 with two counts of custodial interference, per KUTV.

Tomich and Skinner are asking for anyone who may have seen Dane or her two sons to come forward.

Tomich described her sons as having “infectious smiles” and said both have dimples, blue eyes, blonde hair and would “hopefully” be giggly. 

Authorities believe Dane may be driving a Toyota Camry with a temporary tag or may not have obscured the license plate, which is A561HL, according to the Amber Alert.
